We had a 3 office Christmas party (13 people) at Sugo on Surrey. The food was great. Our server was spectacular. We were all so impressed with Sugo being able to offer a full menu to a table of 13, get everything right and provide better service than I often do at other restaurants with a table of 2 or 4. Exceptional experience.

Beautiful interior and very good service. The salads were a generous portion. My beet and goat cheese salad was rather bland but the ravioli was very tasty and made up for my salad disappointed. Deserts are also a generous size and very good.

Great service and easy conversation with the staff. Loved all the artwork in each room. I also loved the amount of cocktail choices and the inventive twists to some of the classics. We loved the seafood dip and the brushetta. I only took off one star because we were sat in the back and froze all evening. The cold air was blasting on us. As well, I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and found it a bit bland. The goat cheese and pesto was delicious but there wasn't enough of it to make up for the weak ravioli/sauce combo. Definitely happy with the portion size though! Lots of parking behind the restaurant!

Two of our party of four had been to Sugo previously. We started with glasses of wine from there somewhat limited but still very good wine by the glass list. We ordered bruschetta to share which was more than enough for the four of us. Two of our party ordered the pesto pizza, one ordered the seafood risotto and the final member ordered butternut squash ravioli. All dishes were excellent. For dessert we ordered two portions of panettone bread pudding with both ice cream and whipped cream. More food then we truly needed but it was still delicious. The service was also excellent.

I came here to celebrate my wife's birthday on Saturday January 26. Made reservations for 5pm. Had some apps both of which were delicious, two salads the tritatta was excellent the Ceasar was nothing to write home about. The mains risotto and linguine were excellent as was the dessert. Service was great. Very friendly and attentive. Portions were excellent and price more than fair for what you got. Would definitely recommend and come back again. Worth the drive. What WAS odd was that even though they asked if we were celebrating anything special when I made the reservations they never acknowledged it the whole time we were there.

Incredible restaurant. From the atmosphere to the presentation of the food and everything in between, five stars. I had the salmon with the sun dried pesto and I'm in awe. The food presentation was clean and eye catching, I was starving just looking at my food! My salmon was cook to perfection, as was my wifes' ribeye steak! The sides, roasted vegetables and quinoa was delicious and perfectly seasoned. Lovely decor, great artwork on the walls and the dishware was cool! My #1 recommendation... GET THE BRUSCHETTA!

I originally came to this establishment because I'm interested in the Southern Ute Grassroots Organization. I quickly found out that this was a restaurant with really good food. Some might call it 'Classical Italian', but I just called it Italian food. I probably won't be back here for quite some time since I live in Ottawa and I'm usually taking the bus, and there are no OC Transpo buses that come this far.

Meh. Although the atmosphere is wonderful - despite being loud - the food really isn't exciting. Guelph and the surrounding area has options for pasta and pizza. The menu offers standard fare - if you like to try new, adventurous foods,this isn't the place to eat. The popette pizza was bland despite a list of delicious looking ingredients. Our server did fine, but the food took a long time although we all had pizza and pasta. All told we were there for two and a half hours

So many delicious options to choose from. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. Lots of gluten free and vegan options available as well for those who want it. I really enjoyed my pizza and the truffle chicken penne is amazing. Adorable little spot and great decor. The building is old and unique! Owners are kind and so personable. And the service was fantastic. Love it here!!!

I love the location and the building is beautiful! That being said... It was so loud that my friend and I had to yell to hear our conversations. Also, the portions are MASSIVE. Like...the appetizer salad was basically an entire meal. Then, our entrees came out and they were just as big. The food and presentations looked nice, but the taste wasn't anything special. We got free desserts (again, so huge) but nothing 'wowed' us. My opinion is to cut WAY back on portions and focus on the taste. We were a bit let down because from the outside, it looks like a quaint spot to enjoy some delicious food, but we ended up paying a ton of money for okay food and most of it had to be thrown out because it was ridiculously too much food.

Absolutely incredible. My family and I had takeout from here tonight and purchased the family meal deal along side a neo-margharita pizza. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing, not mention the value for the massive serving sizes! The service was extremely friendly and accommodated all of our requests. Sugo - we will be back! We went to Sugo on Surrey last night and we had the best experience. The servers were amazing and very friendly. We started with the antipasto and it was huge and amazing. We also ordered the crab dip that comes with deep fried homemade pizza dough that was out of this world. For our mains we ordered gnocchi and eggplant parmesan. The servings are fairly large and so flavorful. The Toccalinos will be back with our friends and family and we even talked about having our engagement party there!!!! Thank you for the great experience. See you all soon!!!

We went for dinner in a group of 4 on a Wednesday night. We had the salmon chowder, the calamari and the meatballs to start. For our mains, we had chicken parm, seafood risotto, seafood linguine and butternut squash ravioli. Pros: - The salmon chowder had a nice flavour to it, not enough salmon in it but the flavour and portion size was great - The calamari came with a really good lemon caper aioli that was delicious, calamari could have been crispier - The portion sizes of the appetizers and mains were good - The meatballs were really good, well flavoured and good portion size - Seafood risotto was overcooked BUT the flavour was really good and they were receptive to feedback, offered a free desert (tiramisu cheesecake which was delightful) - Chicken parm was a good portion - Seafood linguine was also delicious - Portion sizes and prices for portions was great value Cons: - The parmesan cheese SHOULD be freshly grated we thought, would have enhanced it but instead it was a powdery parmesan to garnish - The cream sauce could have used a bit more salt Overall, the restaurant was a really nice setting, really good service, awesome portion sizes and prices for portion sizes. Drinks were reasonably priced and there was a lot of effort obviously put into a menu with lots of variety and different tastes. Would go again.

Great addition to the Guelph restaurant scene. Went here with for dinner and got the Cajun shrimp papperdelle which was perfectly seasoned and portioned. The restaurant is in a 100+ year stone home which has some nice ambiance and character. Wide selection of local beers on tap. We will be back once they open up their rooftop patio in the summer.

Maybe it was just an off night, but I was quite underwhelmed. Appetisers were okay - nothing to write home about - also no complaints, but my main (Chicken Parmesan) was served with cold brussel sprouts and overcooked pasta with under-seasoned sauce. One dining companion's risotto was crunchy - not al dente but actually crunchy. That being said the lamb shank was apparently very tender though under-seasoned and again served with cold brussel sprouts.

Covid update: Sugo's delivery and pickup are some of the best I've seen. You do need to order early, but they do a great job with timing as a result! Would highly recommend their pizzas. Loved dinner here! The food is good, the atmosphere comfortable and staff friendly.

First time dining at Sugo on Surrey and I would highly recommend this restaurant. Coming from an Italian background the food reminded me exactly of my Nonna’s cooking growing up, especially the Meatballs and Polenta. Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for the true Italian taste as it brought me back to childhood memories. Sugo far exceeded my expectations as I am usually quite critical of Authentic Italian food. We will be back for our next special occasion.

Last night, we had our staff Christmas dinner here. It was such an enjoyable time! We sat at the bar and waited for our table, the bartender, Jon, was knowledgeable and friendly. Alex, the owner and Mike, manager, were checking in on us and let us know our table was about a 15 minute wait, and that we would be seated as soon as the party cleared. After we were seated, our served came and answered questions about the menu. She was attentive and really wonderful. The appetizers came out almost right away, and very tasty! Then the entrees came out and they were even better. Portions were great, and the quality was top knotch. We didn’t venture into dessert because we were full, but everything sounded delicious! We will definitely be back. Thank you Sugo on Surrey for hosting our big group last night, we truly appreciate the amazing service and the love and care that went into our dinner. We will definitely be back for more!

Normally a good time had here. This week there was a customer sitting at the bar drinking alone and chatting with the wait staff. He took/made a call on his phone and the volume on the phone was very loud with a sick child in the background. It went on and on and on and disturbed our conversation. We asked the waitress over and told her it was disruptive. She did not agree and was dismissive of our concerns. It ruined our evening.

Lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting. The apps were huge and tasty, and our entrees were also large and tasted home-made. Our server was very helpful; he forgot one of our apps but was very apologetic. The drinks are unique. Four stars and we had to wait a long time for our drinks and apps and it was not overly busy, but everything was worth the wait. We did not have room for dessert but it looked lovely. Will return to try more of the meal items!

Dinner with friends here this week. Beautiful decor inside. Very inviting with a nice bar area. We had bruschetta to share. It was ample and for three and delicious! Starting where we ended: a lemon sorbet that was as close to perfection as we could imagine - the balance between tartness and sweetness, no ice crystals or clumping. A brownie served shimmering as if it was starring on a food network program. They were an exclamation point to a set of show stopping main course dishes. A Margherita pizza that would champion the victor in our month long search in southern Italy last year. And a seafood risotto that transports you back to one of the many heavenly eateries there.

Certainly not the culinary experience I was expecting. Soggy calamari, pasty risotto that literally I could form a sculpture with, the proteins in that dish and the spaghetti where pretty meager, certainly not worth the $24+ per dish price tag. I would be hard pressed to go back as I've dined in far better Italian restaurants in the region. Maybe they had a different chef that night or were just running out of food, but the value and flavour just weren't there for me.

Had a wonderful New Years Eve dinner at Sugo on Surrey with my family - was our first time. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was even better. Our server was very attentive, and checked back with our table frequently. Highly recommend going to this restaurant for a nice meal - way better than the Keg, but similar price.

Tempted to give less stars, but I've only been once and it was a busy Friday night and we were a group of 6, so maybe there were just having a bad day. My partner ordered a martini, it came with no olives. My friends ordered the clams with the parmesan truffle fries. The fries came with no parmesan or seasoning at all, the waitress gaslight us a bit about it - I know when friend have no salt at all and can certainly see when it has no parmesan on it. But did bring us new fries in the end and they were fine. We had Calamari which was nice. I had the lamb shank main in the shank itself was very nice, but it was served with seasonal vegetables which at the time are brussel sprouts which were cold. My partner had the chicken parm which came with spaghetti side which was also cold. My friend had the risotto which was crunchy.

Unfortunately the chef came to our table to inform me that they had run out of the special. So I ordered the tuscan chicken which was delicious. To my surprise the chef sent out 2 large slices of the pork tenderloin which were left over. It was amazing and the gesture was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend Sugo on Surrey.

Our take out last night was great. It’s a little hard to find the building in the dark (first timers!) but we managed and pick up was contactless. My wife and I did take out tonight of their chicken Parmesan with Caesar salad and it was an amazing meal. the tomato sauce is sweet, the food was prepared beautifully, portions were very large. definitely looking forward to visiting the restaurant when we can eat in. Fantastic and attentive service, delicious food, and great beverage selection! We sat in the bar area at a high top table and enjoyed the ambiance. We had the calamari fritti to start, and it was crispy, fresh, and flavourful. My partner ordered the veal and I ordered chicken parmigiana. His dinner was nice, but I definitely picked the winner. My wife and I and another couple ate dinner here yesterday evening. It was our first visit. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is great - nicely renovated old house on a quiet street, well lit, good separation of space. The staff were friendly. However, the service was spotty - even though the restaurant wasn't all that busy - a Wednesday evening. The server disappeared for long periods and seemed a little pushy when she did show up. I think her intentions were good. Its just that we seemed to having to fit her schedule. The food was very average. I had the seafood linguine. The pasta was over cooked and barely warm enough when it was served - seemed to me that it likely sat in the kitchen waiting to be served. The mussels around the bowl tasted great. The quantity of seafood in pasta mix seemed to be very limited as a $27 entree. My wife had the beet salad and calamari appetizers as a meal. She said it was ok but nothing special. One of friends had the risotto which the plating was bland and the other had the all-you-can-eat mussels. He had two servings with two different sauces which he said was good. The only problem was that when he was 2/3'rd through the first serving he ordered the second serving which took well over 20 minutes - too long - out of sink with the dinner. I think this restaurant has potential, but they really need to improve the food quality and be more attentive in service. I hope they are successful.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Had heard it was very good. I ordered the special, the veal. It was 2 large pieces just plopped on a pile of spaghetti with a few overdone vegetables. Far too much food and presentation was awful. Waitress was efficient but was harried and we felt it also. Not sure if I will give it a second chance , I expect better for the money I spent.

This is now the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to. My husband and I recently went for my birthday. It's an old century like home converted into a cozy restuarant. The service was spectacular and the food blew my mind. My husband's tried their whiskey sour drink special. It was made with a special batch of whiskey from Grand Valley Distillery. He said it tasted just like key lime pie, he enjoyed every single drop. Started with the asiago crab dip and this was my favorite part of the meal, and I'm not a big seafood person but I'd eat this every day if I could. It was light but rich and the little dipping bread was so nice and fluffy. Sprinkled with fresh parmesan and parsley. Amazing. For our mains my husband had the veal and I had the truffle chicken penne. Usually I leave half to bring home but I finished it all and cleaned the plate with the piece of garlic toast. The veal came with beautiful little potatoes and perfectly cooked asparagus. The pasta for my main was cooked perfectly, wonderful sauce and the chicken was great. I think they might have seared it possibly and that added a great flavour. We finished off with tiramisu cheesecake made exclusively for the restaurant in the bakery next door. Tiramisu isn't my first dessert choice but this was so good. It didn't have a super strong boozy taste. Loved it. Our server was laid back and friendly but very professional. She knew everything about the menu and offered her suggestions. Gentleman from the kitchen was bringing out food and clearing plates as he came back. Super friendly and chill staff. There seemed to be a lot of regular customers there. The prices are a bit high but it's so worth every penny. The portions were decent and the food was so rich and tasty. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Thank you so much!

We started with Mussels which were the biggest disappointment, they came with frites which was nice but the mussels themselves were very small and somewhat fishy tasting. Interestingly, we also ordered seafood linguine and the mussel that came with it were much better, larger and fresh tasting. The home made pasta was a real treat as well. We also had one of their pizzas and it was very good with fresh ingredients and nice crust. I held back on a my rating a bit due to the starter. The atmosphere was nice and not very crowded due to Covid, so was a pleasant intimate dining experience. Definitely very much worth a visit

I dined there for the first time with my friend tonight (her second). We ordered the bruschetta - amazing and it could have filled us for dinner the portion was massive! (Especially compared to others') She ordered the pollo, and I ordered the veal scallopini. I read one person's review saying it was expensive for the portion size. Portion size was normal and in most cases plentiful!!! Our meals were delicious! There are so many things we want to try it'll be hard to repeat the same order! Our server was so attentive and she had so many tables she was serving at once. We usually never order appetizers or dessert, but we couldn't resist tonight. Our desserts were amazing!!! The brownie and ice cream were to die for, and the mousse was sooooo rich and flavourful! Needless to say, I will be back again. My friend is actually going tomorrow! Lol

I was excited to visit this restaurant. A friend had said that he had a very good meal there and he was the one I was taking to dinner. It’s beautifully decorated with numerous paintings and the original stone walls protruding, kudos, to the decorators. This was the best part of the evening. Unfortunately, the food was tasteless. I had a ginger ale as my drink. My request for a little ice was ignored, it came with a ton of the stuff. I removed the ice to find about two ounces of tasteless brown water. My very pretty and admittedly large caesar salad had an abundance of Parmigiano but little or no taste. If there was garlic in it (a fav flavour of mine) I think they merely waved a clove of the stuff over the top. A large piece of pancetta was tastefully placed on top. Tasteless would have been a better adjective. I think it was cooked a week previously and left on a shelf somewhere. My main included a nice combination and amount of crisp-tender vegetables. My supreme of chicken was misnamed as there was nothing supreme about it. The cheese stuffing was again flavourless and the quarter chicken was dry. On to the desert, a tiramisu, again a personal favourite of mine. It was a puddle of nothing. Not a touch of the flavour of the espresso on ladyfingers. It was again, I think made last week when they did that pancetta. I could have used a straw to drink it rather than the provided spoon. This was meant as a treat for my guest who had done a great act of kindness for me. He said he enjoyed his meal. I hope it was more than his attempt to be polite. Sigh, another culinary write off.

Was just ok. Our first visit and I was excited to try another Italian option in the city. The restaurant is attractive and nicely laid out. Our server was pleasant and efficient. The food however was a little disappointing. Appetizers: The caesar salad was crisp and not over-dressed but the dressing was lackluster and tasted of mayonnaise. I couldn't wait to try the meatballs on polenta but the meatballs were dense and dry. The polenta had an unpleasant grainy texture the tomato sauce (Sugo tomato?) was meh. The calamari was good. Tender and fresh but the sauces were bland and unimaginative. Mains: The seafood risotto was the best entre at our table of 4 with nice flavour although the texture was gloopy. Risotto is a challenging dish to serve and should only be on the menu if you can nail it. The veal marsala seemed like it was served out of a steam table instead of cooked to order. The sauce was thick and floury. The butternut squash ravioli sounded amazing when described on the menu but was really average. It didn't deliver on the flavours that were promised. Finally the chicken parm. Another bland steam table delight that was no better than what you'd expect from a cafeteria. The desserts were ok but didn't seem like they were made on site. Overall I was really disappointed with the food. Everything was edible but uninspiring. We won't be in a hurry to return.

Sugo on Surrey has become a staple for special occasions with my family. I bring my parents there every time they're in town (they demand it, to be honest) and it's my first thought for anniversaries and birthdays. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, I love the staff and more recently their pick up options for the pandemic are both really well designed and also easy to use as a patron. More importantly THE FOOD. Words could not do it justice! Special love to the crab dip and pizza. Thanks to all the staff there for your continued talent and lovliness!

This is a great spot located in a converted house on Surrey Street in Guelph. The food is excellent!! Try the meatball appetizer as you get three large meatballs on a bed of pollenta ... great flavour with a lot of garlic. You can order a half sandwich with a side. The chicken parm is great as are the pizzas. Small warning - the parking lot is tiny. Be prepared to fight for street parking . Worth the visit and I would recommend this restaurant.

Amazing food and staff is great. While we had a few issues during our meal (one of our pastas was under cooked and we happened to be the unlucky recipients of a piece of a scrub pad on one of our plates) these issues were expertly dealt with and both dishes were removed from the cost of the meal and replaced. Every restaurant will have issues like these but it is how they are dealt with that matters and the staffs response was exactly what it should have been. Will DEFINITELY be returning, cant wait to try more dishes! Flavour and presentation was impeccable!

Small restaurant with big flavours. Had the crab dip and butternut squash soup for apps and Risotto and Mediterranean pizza for supper. Had cocktails and specialty coffee for beverages. Server great and friendly. Food delivered in great time. Definitely recommend.

My husband and I have been drying to try sugo and figured why not splurge for our “mini-moon” since our honeymoon was cancelled due to Covid. WOW it did not disappoint and was more than worth the wait. Our food was served quickly and the taste was spectacular. Not only was the food delicious but you could just tell it was made with the finest ingredients. I would 100% recommend sugo to anyone and it is definitely worth the money.

Fantastic little Italian restaurant. Great customer service, serving sizes, and quality. We haven't been able to dine inside yet, but the takeout has been well enjoyed. The chicken parmesan is my go to and we loved the meatballs as well.

Just enjoyed a fabulous New Years Eve dinner at Sugo on Surrey. Booked Sugo through 'open table' online. When we arrived at Sugo they could not find my reservation. Turns out I had booked "Sugo" n Georgia. I was alarmed- it was New Years Eve! The staff was so gracious and accomodating! They squeezed us in. The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere wonderful and the service impeccable. I can"t say enough about this place. The three of us each ordered completely different starters and mains and each of us raved about our food. They even had a gluten free brownie available for dessert which was amazing! Will definitely be returning very soon...

Came here for a post Christmas/New Years date night and will definitely be back. The food was very rich and flavorful and the service was amazing. All the servers were friendly, welcoming and very attentive. We were in the lounge/bar area and its not your typical bar. It has a really nice cozy vibe, and was much quieter than the main dining area. Great location too

Not bad, decent food and decent atmosphere. When we got there we stood at the front door for over 5 minutes before anyone came to greet us. The pasta is not made in house and the portion could have fed a small army. If you want true Italian food in Guelph, I would go to La Cucina.

My new favourite restaurant in Guelph!! Amazing service and fantastic food. Portions are very generous (ie you could probably share mist ifbthere appetizers and the salads. The food is full of flavour and not salty. Finally, it is quiet and easy to have a comfortable conversation (without shouting). And, I almost forgot...there is lots of parking. Will definitely be back.

It can be challenging to find really good vegan fine dining in Guelph, we were so happy with the Vegan options that Sugo had. Love the atmosphere, intimate but inclusive. The decor was inviting and our waitstaff was wonderful! Would love to see an expanded wine selection, but everything else was perfect!

We regularly eat Italian food and this was absolutely phenomenal. Not only was everything exceptionally fresh, perfectly cooked, and deliciously seasoned, but the owner was extremely generous and kind when we picked up our meal. I've never felt so well treated and well fed by restaurant. We will be coming here again and again and again. NOTE that we couldn't even wait to eat the pizza before taking a picture. The meatballs are also mindblowing.

A very nice, intimate Italian restaurant. It is based inside of a house, and so inevitably it is quite loud when we go. However, the atmosphere is amazing, and the food is incredibly delicious! The staff are very friendly too. A close-knit space.
