Here we offer you all the information of real people like you who consumed the products and services of Borealis Grille & Bar (Guelph) (Restaurant) in Guelph territory (Canada).
At the present the firm gets a rating of 4.3 out of 5 and that rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that its rating is very good, and it's based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can think that the rating is quite accurate. If people have bothered to rate when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write opinions when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is included in the category of Restaurant.
Lunch is quiet here, waitress is really friendly, fried chicken is really tender, fish and chips is ok
Thank you so much for your hospitality today! Our cousins lunch was a great success. We will be back, the food was great, the service excellent and the location perfect as we had family from Wasaga Beach, Strathroy, Lakefield, Niagara, and Corfu New York come for the get together!!!! thanks again for making today a great lunch.
Loved my experience here great service and the food was out quick I will definitely be returning
A really nice surprise. It's great to see all the staff strive towards good service and believe in their b corporation status. The food was delicious and buy 1 get 1 free appetizers on Monday night sealed the deal. The general manager chatted with us and the dessert was out of this world. Definitely get the sampler.
Venue was clean and quiet. Wait staff was friendly and very helpful. Food was served quickly and was of typical, exceptional quality. I would visit again, and take along friends.
Local food, support for the local farmers is a big draw for me. You have to try the Texas Longhorn Burger (if they still have it)... delicious.
Lovely to be served so well, with fresh beer, a very fine falafel salad, and a pleasant afternoon setting.
We’ve been meeting to visit this restaurant ever since we moved to Guelph and finally got the chance for date night. This is a fabulous restaurant and it’s great that it’s all locally sourced ingredients. Everything tasted so fresh and wonderful. Service was excellent and our food came out quite fast (we went on a Wednesday night and they didn’t appear to be busy…not sure what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night). They have deals each day of the week like most restaurants including a date night deal for less than $50 and the options were great; 1 app (the app we chose was quite large) to share, two entrees and two desserts per person instead of having to share one! We’ll definitely be back to try some of the other meals on the menu. Would 100% recommend.
We love everything about this restaurant! The food, the servers, the atmosphere, but most of all that the food and bevs are all locally sourced.
Fabulous place! Great service and delicious food. Good value for the money.
Good food, good service. I had the steak and frits. Well made. My friends enjoyed their drinks. Good place for sure.
Great food and great friendly service. Will be heading there again for sure. They are handling covid protocols very well.
Delicious food. Tried the trout in a dill Alfredo sauce on a bed of fresh pasta. WOW!!! Kudos to the chef.
Excellent place for a meal...sat on the patio and enjoyed a sharing of appetizers and sangria...would definitely go back when in guelph again as the food and service were excellent
Good place for yummy food
The food was incredible, and the staff was super friendly as well. Thank you for an AMAZING lunch !!! Please open a restaurant in London, On. :)
I went to the Borealis pub and grill for a lovely dinner with my mother and sister. The food was fantastic. They had a wide array of food selections everything from Elk to duck confit just about everything you could ask for. The staff was also quite friendly and very helpful in choosing the appropriate meal to go with the mood of the day. The appetizers were very good as well we tried the sausage Bowl as well as the sweet potatoes and onion dip. I also appreciated the fact they also had a good selection of non-alcoholic beverages. I tried to the Arnold Palmer, it was delicious for non-alcoholic beverage.
Love the unique menu pulling from the local fare. Waitress was very attentive and kind. Over all a great place to relax with a pint.
Knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly service. Good food.
The food is mostly locally obtained and the service is great.. the only minor complaint that I have is that the menu is very small, leaving not many options to choose from. The atmosphere is quaint as well.
One of my favourite place to go for dinner and lunch! The food is absolutely amazing and the service is great! Great price for what you are getting!
A nice quiet and up scale place to eat. Staff are amazing and the food is great!
Great service and fresh hot food served under the"big top"! Perfect outing
Went here for date night, and the service was absolutely HORRENDOUS. Went with my boyfriend near the summer and the place was not busy at all so we chose to sit outside. Our server was the bartender inside and he took forever to come and take out order, we ordered the chips and dip, which he recommended but it was a horrible choice. The dip was very bland, hot and really dry. The plates were also hot as if they’d been microwaved. Additionally the chips we got were not even full pieces. Looked like chips from the bottom of the bag. We placed our entire order right in the beginning, got our appetizer first as normal and then no one came to check on us. We finished our appetizer and waited around for a while but no one came to check up or deliver our entree or fill out water. We ended up cancelling the order, and leaving.
I always love my meals here. Their commitment to local food sourcing really caught my eye. I would highly recommend.
I havent been at the bor for sometime but they have a great menu and very nice patio. Food was excellent and my guests all enjoyed their choices. Service was terrific. Thanks staff !! Cheers
I went here for my birthday and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The wait staff was great and friendly.
This restaurant rating on Google should be above a 4.2. In my opinion this restaurant deserves a rating of 4.5 the food quality is excellent. The service is great. They have daily specials and the portion sizes are large. If your in Guelph try this place for dinner .
Stopped in for lunch after not having been there in over 2 years. The only negative thing about our visit is that we live too far away to be able to visit more often since this place is definitely worth it. Service, food, ambience - it has it all! Yes, some people may complain that this can be pricey but Borealis is not a diner or a fast-food joint. We were appreciative of being able to dine there and look forward to return visits.
My husband & I went last night. Did not have a good experience. Although the waitress was excellent, the food was another story. I ordered the duck, it was dry and tasteless, bits of squash and bacon mixed together and dry as can be. My husband got the prime rib and i highly doubt it was aged like the menu said, he ordered well done and the centre was bloody. We ordered wine, which they said they ran out? really, on a weekend? I was expecting a little more of a fine dining taste esp when your bill is over $120. Will not be going back
Amazing venue, with amazing food and exceptionally polite and professional service staff! Thank you for making our visit memorable! We will be back!
amazing short rib, very friendly waitress, always a great place to visit
Great selection on their menu. Gluten and soy free options. Friendly wait staff.
I have been here multiple times. It never ceases to fill both my appetite and my curiosity. Very courteous and knowledgeable staff. Great guys.......
Nope! Will never go back. Corn bread was very very dry. We sent back the kids pasta, it tasted like rusty noodles. My kid already had 3 bites (wish I would've taste tested before hand). Fish and chips was ok, nothing special. Wings were nothing special. I really don't know how this place has good reviews. Even the atmosphere isn't that great, just regular family style restaurant. The menu doesn't have alot of options, alot of chicken dishes. I think the outdoor patio set up really drives ppl to come here. So disappointing. I should've listen to a few friends who've tried this place, don't come here lol Thank goodness I had a giftcard!!!
Enjoyed a wonderful date night here on the Wed night! Food was amazing, atmosphere was fantastic!
Decent, had some gluten free options, reasonable.priced for covid, good waiter.
Always great service and great food in a Guelph place. We have had our company Christmas parties here for a few years now and always had a good experience. We really appreciate that they are an ethical B corporation and a living wage employer too.
Went here for the first time, good customer service, but the food was okay for the price.
Recently ordered takeout from this location and I will be ordering again. Fresh and delicious entrees ready when we arrived. This was a pleasant alternative to the currently banned in person dining. Great food and service! Can’t wait to come back.
Great local food. The specials are always great as well as the seasonal drinks. Not cheap, but pretty good value. Great for special occasions.
Went as a birthday party. Service was good and food was also. Only complaint was the fish batter was quite thick and greasy.
First time, new to Guelph and this has been on my list to try. Definitely will be in the regular rotation. Everything great, had the best fish. Our server, Brennan made the night great, so professional but also put up with my teasing and gave some back. I like the local beers and produce. I will try the wine on tap next time for sure. Didn’t notice it on the menu until I already ordered a beer.
Great service, Great food, Great atmosphere, I highly recommend Borealis !
Beautiful patio, food excellent and great service!
Really great staff and menu. Prefect place for a romantic dinner. Mood lighting included!
Tonight I finally had the chance to stop in at Borealis. I'm new to the Kitchener area and the sign saying "obsessively local" caught my eye a few months ago. Anyways, my boyfriend and I absolutely loved the place! We both shared the nachos, I had the Cajun tofu tacos and he had the fish and chips. Everything down to spices on the fries and tortilla chips were delicious. Our waitress was super nice too. I can't wait to go back!
Been a favourite ever since I want to school here. We stop in every time we pass. Great atmosphere in the bar side. Friendly staff. Fresh Local Healthy
Pre Covid: Interesting slant on comfort food. Local sourcing. Bold flavors (they should bottle their honey mustard dip). Good beers. Sept 2020 - the food is still great, the smoked burger was so delicious. Love the fish and chips.
I had a wonderful experience here. Our server (Brandon or Brendon I think?) was very friendly and energetic. He had a wonderful vibe. The food was also very good, I have the fried chicken. I would definitely reccomend coming here at some point!
Girls night out on the patio. Appetizer- Nachos- cheese perfectly melted and all toppings distributed evenly throughout entire dish. Mains- Braised Beef Short Rib- flavorful and delicious. Rib was mostly fatty so lot alot of edible meat. Braised Rib Pasta- perfect taste, meat tender and buttery and a perfect creamery blue cheese sauce that wasn't over powering.
Great service and food
It was a little cold - the AC was on full blast. But the service was great, and the food was good. The price was fabulous, food came quickly. I was able to find many gluten-free and dairy-free options. And Megan (our server) knew the menu really well.
Great tasting food that is locally sourced but that is reflected on your bill.
Good service, good food. A little on the pricey side for the quality. Would recommend but definitely areas to improve.
Very good food. Local and fresh, unique menu. Tight seating and little noisy but otherwise nice evening out.
Alway love stopping for a delicious bite at this place . Worth noting, the service is fantastic as well. Cheers
Delicious food and good atmosphere. Steak was cooked perfectly. We had a lovely evening.
Had a wonderful lunch there. Staff was incredibly friendly and super understanding on my allergies and was able to make suggestions and substitutions where required. The food was wonderfully cooked and the decor very pleasant. I really like the fact they are very eco friendly and source many of their ingredients locally or from sustainable and ethical places. You guys were great! Thank you :)
Everyone, including our kids, were happy with the menu choices. Our meal was great, as was the service.
Salmon & veggie burger was okay but aside from that everything else was great! Louie is an exceptional waiter and their the only restaurant that has kombucha tea on tap and so refreshing. The interior is nice upstairs!
Great little restaurant in Guelph. One of our more regular stops when we’re in the area. Fantastic menu of locally sourced ingredients and lots of organic choice.
Nice place
I have visited borealis over 5 times for lunch and dinner and it is amazing. Service has always been great and the food is fresh and tasteful. I like that they change their menu often and add new things. They source everything locally so it’s nice to support our local communities. It is worth a visit!
The food was amazingly delicious, the servers were very attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy
We choose to take our friends here because of the local fare and menu selection and none of us were disappointed ✔️. Borealis is a delight as their menu showcases in-season selections allowing the menu to be adjusted as the seasons change. Smart! ???? Fresh and flavorful. The service was attentive and friendly. We were not rushed nor did we feel pushed to vacate for someone else. See you again soon!
Quick service, wasn't busy, sat on patio, food was okay.
Meal type
I like their local food sourcing policies, food is good. Would be better with more uniqueness or flair.
The Borealis Grill is a locavore restaurant, they're very focused on using the best local ingredients, including beverages. We've been there a few times, the food is always great. This time I had the Old Cheddar Burger with side green salad. The burger was huge and tasty; the best I've had in years. I am spoiled for other lesser burgers now. My wife had the fried chicken special. The chicken was perfect. The warm potato salad was amazing. The cornbread too. We spilt the dessert sampler all of those were great too. Staff was super friendly.
Get the crispy fish tacos. You won't be disappointed. Totally incredible food, great service. Went with my 5yo and she loved it too. We'll definitely be back!
Locally sourced food. Great chef and good variety with friendly staff.
Chill atmosphere, quality beer on tap, and quality ingredients combined well. No complaints.
We had the most wonderful lunch today. The server was excellent! Kids menu is really great, too. The curried mussels are sooo good. Loved the dessert sampler, too (the creme brulee is delicious). We were celebrating two birthdays today and the server gave us two $10 off vouchers for the next visit as a birthday gift. A nice gesture that was appreciated.
Came here with a friend. The Turkey burger was amazing. The service from my waitress HORRIBLE. Would go back for the food but next time I wouldn't want to be served by someone who looks miserable.
Just celebrated our 24th Anniversary with dinner here tonight and it was great. Had 2 for 1 appetizer and the bacon jam with the brie was delicious and the antojitos were good with a nice yogurt dip but was hoping for a bit more spice on the blackened chicken. My husband had the burger that had the bacon jam and he loved it (and he knows his burgers)and the fries were amazing. You can tell all the food is fresh. The desserts were good with the new chocolate bar and berry cobbler my favs. A little on the pricey side but good portions.
The owner is very rude and I’m getting the vibes he’s also racist. Not a single person of colour works here. They had 1 BIPOC employee but was fired after 2 weeks because they used her to fill in for another employee that was away on vacation. Food is horrible while prices are very high. I’ve been here twice and that was the last time I ever step foot into that restaurant.
Amazing service, order came to table in perfect timing. Taste of the food was melting in your mouth. First restaurant I’ve been back to for dining since the lockdown and this will be one of the most memorable experiences.
Lunch
Delicious local food
Always love this place. Consistently good
Great local food. Service was excellent. Warm, inviting atmosphere.
The biggest part of dinning out is always the food. The atmosphere and service was incredible. The mains were beautiful to the eye, but completely tasteless. It is such a waste to look and read of what should be a great taste experience and it end up falling flat. Dessert was just as bad. the best part was the appetizer. But if you screw up Nachos then man you have big issues lol. Great service and great staff. all the best but can't see a revisit any time soon.
The food was beautiful and delicious - a wonderful combination of tastes and textures. I would have expected such a place to serve fresh cut fries with the luscious burger my husband ordered.
Great service, delicious food.
Service
A positive atmosphere combined with a dedication to locally sourced consistantly updated food and drink. Great place for a hearty meal, I wouldn't suggest just coming for an appetizer though. 15 to 50 dollar meal range with a steady service record.
Enjoyed a Turkey Burger / Chicken Rhubarb sandwich with a friend on May 23rd. Server Dora was pleasant & professional. Took off 1 star for dessert - was supposed to be a special black walnut tart, sauce and ice cream. Received a month old butter tart with vanilla ice cream instead. Will go back.....but skip the dessert.
Decent service, server was attentive; the food on the other hand is mediocre at best and downright inedible at it’s worst. Highly over seasoned and priced at least double than what it is really worth. For $32, The Keg serves a world class steak plus sides unlike the cold, pre cut and pedestrian tasting steak being served with over salted frites and compound butter that seemed to forget that it could melt at room temperature. For the cost of dinner at Borealis, one could drive to downtown Toronto, pay for parking, eat at a great restaurant, tip 18%, and still have some change left over. This experience has left me disappointed.
Ingredients here are fresh! Friendly staff. Took one star off as I feel the food is lacking flavour. Would still recommend however.
Third time here... Always impressed. Very fresh and unique takes on common dishes, have tried the sweet potato tacos and fried chicken with jalapeno cornbread. Always jealous of other people's food at my table too cuz it all looks amazing and doesn't dissappoint. Keep meaning to go here more often, a bit out of the way from Milton but it would be worth the drive alone.
A GOOD MENU. AND GREAT SERVICE. LIKE GOING THERE.
Great food, fast service. Very good response to sanitation etc. re Covid
The atmosphere was nice and our server was food. However my husband stared at cob webs in the corner between a sign and a wall. The food was mediocre for the price..the host did not get up from where she was sitting to great us and just told us to sit wherever we wished. This was our first visit and sadly our last. So much potential so sadly lacking.
Service
Borealis sources almost everything from nearby producers, which they profile in their menus and signage. The freshness shines through in the food. Nice ambiance (although a little crowded) on the restaurant side. Service is always great. The all-Niagara wine list could be a big stronger. Overall recommended. Their focus on local ingredients definitely has an impact on their food - and delicious is the outcome :). A great family friendly restaurant with good food and beer selection. Can’t go wrong
Best meal I have ever had, the pricing for their valentine special was amazing. There was a bit of a wait for reservations and they gave a 10 dollar gift card and comped the drinks. Definitely will come back again.
I Got takeout and it was amazing. Great quality and size. Definitely recommend and will be back!
Very quaint feel, although it felt more like a gastropub than I was expecting! I think I expected more of a restaurant and lounge, but I liked the atmosphere. People were dressed up and down, the servers were friendly and professional, and the menu was amazing, even if a bit on the higher end for price. I had the fish tacos which were seasoned perfectly in a Cajun style, although I wasn't expecting the pieces to be that small... at some points I wasn't really sure how much fish I actually had in a bite... and it could have used a bit more sauce (the Cajun seasoning dried it out a bit, too). A celebratory drink was brought to us because it was our anniversary, which was so lovely, but they were in the process of changing their drink menu, so they were out of a lot of listed liquor that my husband ordered (which got us a coupon). Overall, loved this place and will definitely be back for another date night!
Love this place. Great atmosphere. Really good good. Prices are standard for this type of restaurant ( think kelseys prices with better food)
Locally sourced ingredients and seasonally changing menu, and the combinations are creative. However, some items really lacked flavour (eg burger wasn't anything special flavour wise, mac and cheese was pretty bland). Been here a couple of times and earlier visits have been great.
I liked it well enough. First time in. Service was good and very pleasant. Food was good! Iwould recommend to friends.
My family really enjoys this restaurant. Is it perfect? No, but for the many times we have came, we've had one issue and it was followed up with a $25 gift card, our $120ish meal... Free, and to top it off we couldn't leave without having desert. They really know how to prepare their food.
We've been to the Borealis in Kitchener, but this was our first visit to Guelph. The food was fantastic and service was excellent. Our dinner on the patio was interrupted by a summer storm, and the staff was monitoring the radar and started to move us indoors just as the rain started. The Borealis Grille restaurants are great, but this visit stands out as something unique. And delicious.
Cozy decor, but lighting could be cosier if placed above each table. Super nice and helpful servers. Responsive and quick service. Delicious food! The wild Boar with noodles was only ok - so a bit disappointing but everything else cooked to perfection. Steak was perfectly medium rare as requested. We'll go back
Wonderful staff, excellent food. We were in Guelph 3 nights and ate there twice, we were so impressed the first time.
good food, great service and nice local selections. Friendly restaurant and great spot to meet with friends. outside summer patio is also nice spot to visit when open
Had an amazing lunch here! The food and service was excellent and the washroom facilities were CLEAN! Servers all were masks and constantly cleaned door handles and tables. The coleslaw had less vinaigrette than I expected but I still gobbled it up. Delicious.
Nice place. Very busy (could be that it was mother's day weekend) reservation is advised! Food was fantastic.
Service
A delicious selection of fresh foods. Great variety. Had Elk Antijitos and an awesome cheese plate. Great coffee from Planet Bean.
Best nachos I've had in a while. Only 4 types of beer presumably due to covid constraints.
I've been here a few times and always enjoyed myself. Some of the food items were a bit hit or miss but that was mostly preference. The things I liked (the burgers, the curry) I really enjoyed. Atmosphere was good and staff were very friendly. I've never had any problems and I found everything reasonably priced. I'd bring friends here again.
Food quality is improved. Steelhead trout is delicious.
Make sure Tamara serves you! Order an Arnold Palmer and the Smokey burger! You won't be disappointed! Great atmosphere and the service was excellent! Will definitely be back!!!
we've continued to enjoy the food here as takeout or dine in with limited numbers, as things re-open we feel that they take the protocols for covid safety seriously and are looking forward to patio season again, wish the road weren't so busy right beside the patio. Find the food and servers to be great.
Poor service levels, lack of response from the GM led us to go to another restaurant for a gathering. We have supported this place for many years, for business & pleasure, but will be taking our business to one of the many other choices going forward. It took over a week for a response, even then I had to call them again. Very disappointed to say the least.
Very nice quiet bar/restaurant atmosphere. Delicious food polite, helpful, friendly staff.
Great service, relaxed atmosphere perfect for a dressed up or down dinner. Food is really good fresh. Love that everything is sourced locally.
My wife and I brought our kids age 6 and 4. They couldn't eat the kids burgers because they had way to much pepper in them and tasted terrible. They then got chicken fingers that had been way over cooked and was dry and not very good at all. We spent over 1.5 hours there and unfortunately had to feed our kids when we got home. They charged us for the kids meals which was unacceptable in my mind. My steak was tasteless and my wife's meal was cold when we finally got it. For $100 meal i expected much much more. This is the 2nd time i have gone here and didn't have a good experience the first time but decided to give them another try. Our server was very polite, professional and did her best. Oh I did like the cheese dip and carrots. However we will not be back for a third visit. Cheers
Good food and service. Healthy selections and an array of hearty bar food.
I had the fried chicken tacos and they were delicious. I could have easily eaten another 3. Good service and the kids menu worked well for my 2 year old daughter.
Good, unique food with multiple vegan-friendly options. Reasonable prices. Excellent service.
I celebrated my friend’s birthday at here. We enjoyed a impressive dinner! Fish chips and fries is good but the fish size is small. It’s much smaller than the size I ate from other restaurants. Last time, I went to a restaurant in Peterborough. That restaurant offered a big size plate of fish chips but the same price as this restaurant. Chicken bowl is not salty but carrots need to cook longer. I ordered The Old Smoky burger, which is one of my favorite dishes. The beef is juicy but a little bit salty. I think most of burger’s beef is a little bit salty. I love fries! Maybe because it was a busy dinner time, Service didn’t add water timely...
Must be because it was Friday. I don't know, or the chef had an off day. Ambiance and staff were great, but then our order came. The brie appetizers should have been warmed up. One guest said the pasta was bland. Another said that the sakad leaves were gritty and should have been washed more thoroughly. The fish and chips had great fries but the pickerel was a small piece and way to mich batter. Thin batter on fish is the proper way. The last person had the smokey burger and we all wished we had ordered the same. It was the best meal served. When the coffee came our disappointment was unanimous. It was lukewarm and tasted like it had been on the burner all day. I hope this was indeed an offnight, but we certainly wont be going back.
Excellent service & delicious food!! Will definitely be going back soon!! ????
This place is a south Guelph staple. Seriously worth a go for any kind of food lover. Apps are good, burgers are very good, entrees can be different and the variety is delicious. Drink deals alone make it worth a trip, cocktail list is very good considering the price. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try local ingredients supported restaurant that is worth your patronage.
Reliably very good, but rarely great. I love their commitment to local ingredients and sustainability, I just wish they did more interesting things with them.
I ordered 4 pieces chicken meal on uber eats. Costs 35 pretax and fees. Got my order and these are the tiniest pieces of chicken ive ever seen. I decided to order that meal because ive eaten it previously there sitting down and the meal they served me there was incredible. That meal can feed 2-3people easy normally. Very dissapointed of what ive received while ordering online.
This is a great place to go for a special event. We just enjoyed our anniversary dinner here.
Great spot - I visited with my parents and the service was excellent. The gentleman who was serving was knowledgeable about the menu and very accommodating to creating vegetarian options for what was on the menu. Food came out promptly. Prices here are great as well! Very impressed with my first experience with Borealis. I will be back
really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food hit the spot!
Enjoyed a savoury, earthy dish of sweet potato, lentil, quinoa, pulled chicken, sausage and curry.....so good. Enough for two meals so I'm having it for lunch today. Service was excellent too.
Perfect. Loved it! Best nachos I've ever eaten. Vegetarian stir fry sooooo delicious and fresh, the duck is amazing. Everything was awesome, service always good.
Huge potential and excellent wait staff. Although my steak dinner was plated well, was seasoned to perfection, was way underdone. Veggies also required additional cooking time. Staff were quick to correct but did increase our wait time. Loved our apps and atmosphere. I'd return but with more instruction regarding cook to server for chef
Love the new gluten free flatbreads! Borealis is one of my "go-to" restaurants for gluten free food. Food and service is always great.
I've been here a few times and I have had very mixed experiences. Generally it is pretty good, but 1-2 times I didn't enjoy my meal. The beer list is good
Not the best place in town, but up there. The food is creative and interesting, and tasty. The decor is getting a bit dated, but it's not that noticeable. The staff are good. It's the kind of place that is so consistently good for so long, you can tend to overlook the good things that they do. We've celebrated a couple of special occasions there and never been disappointed. A safe bet for a good experience.
Had a date night here a couple of weeks ago. There was 80's music blaring so loud that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The staff were very friendly on the way in, but fairly inattentive. I felt very rushed to order, and then no-one checked on us until we were completely done eating. Both of our drinks remained empty for more than half of our meal. Food was pretty good typical pub food.
Excellent patio and service.
Great food... great beer... great service!! You have got to go here!!
The steak was delicious! The burgers on the other hand had a weird taste to the meat, lacked sauce and flavour. Not a lot of choices on the menu either.. Wouldn't go there again.
We've been twice in the past week for dinner, and both times the food and service were terrific. The potato and charred corn soup...yum! Oh, and the seasonal sangria....oooo tasty for the season! Mulled red wine and fruit? What an amazing combo.
The best gathering of local ingredients, produce and good company. Such a Canadian and staple part of being part of the culture. This restaurant offers a casual dining with experience of class and community A important part of Guelph and how farmers feed cities ✨
Unique & tasty! All in our group enjoyed their food and drinks and would return! Vegetarian, pescetarian and meat options. Local/regional offerings. Clean facility and great patio with lots of space! Also it's pretty convenient to get back to highway 401 without going through the city.
Very nice Atmosphere. Excellent Wednesday special.
Ordered the fish tacos. Great snack.
As always, a positive dining experience! We Was seated outdoors due to COVID-19 restrictions and was happy to see they are maintaining a safe atmosphere for their guests and staff. Will be back!
Came here last night (for the first time) & literally had the BEST service we’ve had in a long while. Tamara was our waitress & she really went above & beyond! We will totally be back! We’re not ones to normally leave reviews, but really felt like she deserves some credit. Food was also AMAZING!
Delicious food. Inviting ambiance. Steak meal was wonderful. Lots of flavor. Perfectly cooked. Chicken tacos were filling and tasty - opted for spicy sauce on the side, which was a good move - when in doubt, control your distribution! Salad appetizer was fresh, and it wasn't overwhelmed by dressing or by garlic. Cornbread was a tad too sweet for my liking, probably because of the honey, luckily the garlic butter spread helped balance the flavour - adding salt made it yummy. Btw, they have course salt in the table. Classy. Decor was relaxed and enjoyable. Seats were comfy. One improvement would definitely be for them to change the lighting directly over tables. A bit harsh for evenings, IMO. Or at least change bulbs to warm white (not sure they were) or, better yet, hue lights on a warmer setting. We did spot a few tables without the bright lights so we will ask for those tables in future. Will definitely be back.
Great selection of food, they strongly believe in using local ingredients. Very friendly staff, and large lit patio.
Delicious food and wonderful staff!
Been hearing good things about it for months, but tried for the first tike last night. SO delicious. Very super impressed with their efforts to be a more sustainable business! Definitely will be returning.
We live near the Kitchener Borealis so we normally go there, but after visiting the Guelph location with a friend - we now drive out to Guelph every time. This location is the best! The service is always great, the blueberry martini (not available on Kitchener) is dangerously good and I love the arugula quinoa salad so much - especially with extra cranberries. We try to recreate it at home, but nothing beats their version.
Amazing place, I had their private room booked for a surprise birthday celebration and the staff really helped put it all together!
A simple meal of fish and chips turned out to be wonderful. The fish was firm and sweet, and the chips were crispy. Even the Tartar sauce was different and excellent plus coleslaw that was tasty. The service was very good.
Awesome service and the best turkey burger in town!
Great spot to experience some local ingredients. They have a sizable gluten friendly menu as well.
Steak and frits was phenomenal, service was excellent.
Always a good experience at Borealis. Fresh, locally-sourced, delicious food and a good selection of Ontario craft beer on tap. Great value, you’d spend about the same going to your standard American-style chain restaurant, but the food at Borealis is way better.
Ive been here about 6 or 7 times now. Never had a bad experience. Always exceptional service and food. Would highly reccomend to anyone from older couples to young parents, or just anyone looking for a fantastic, local sourced meal
Awesome dining experience. Fancied up regular dining fare but distinctly flavourful. Will definitely take the family again. Something here for everyone, but it’s a little pricey. Then again a lot of Guelph restaurants are guilty of that. This has its own charming character. Exceptional service from our ‘new’ server. Said it was his first day. Kudos.
The food was delicious. Was a bit disappointed that the fries are not fresh cut. My burger was perfect and my wife really enjoyed the brisket special.
1st time back since COVID reopening, food and service is always great. No indoor seating yet, so limited space on patio and limited menu to match. But, was still a wonderful meal. Never Had A Disappointing Experience at Borealis.
I had a very good cheddar burger there and met very friendly staff.
Love to go to Borealis as not only there food is delicious but they also offer Live Brand Kombucha off the tap. The Steak Frites i ordered were delicious. There were just way too many fries that I could not finish which is a rare thing for me .
"Obsessively local" that's the mantra championed at the Borealis Grille. A superb restuarant that showcases Ontarios finest farmers by sourcing as much as it can locally. During our visit we ordered the fried chicken tacos, the cheese burger and (my new favorite) the chicken and sausage bowl. The beef in the cheese burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful it didnt attempt to be excessive with crazy toppings instead it focused on the basics and excelled. The fried chicken tacos I suppose was an attempt to add a Mexican twist on the fridge chicken sandwich. It was decent but left us wanting more....more tacos that is ????. Finally we arrive, at the chicken and sausage bowl. Served with quinoa, lentils and kale this dish is for the hungry eater who needs something healthy and hearty. The portions are well enough that you will hit the spot and the prices are really fair considering the amazing quality of food. Would you like to Support our farmers while eating amazing food? Then visit the Borealis grill.
Loved the atmosphere food was good service a little slow to start but ended on a great note
They are very big on local produce and brewery and what not. Food was yummy and fresh. Service was good.
I wasn't impressed. My friend got a burger and the meat looked like a hocky puck, hard and dried out. I paid 8 bucks for a sangria drink that was in a small glass with more ice than liquid and they had dumped frozen fruit in it. The dessert just tasted weird. Dry cake with bitter cherries and a tahini in it. Weird combo. Anyway... probably won't ever go again....the best part was the server- really nice guy.
Service was awesome! The server kept making jokes with my dad and made us feel very special. Definitely would recommend.
Do not go there if you have allergies! The wait staff had to leave and come back every time I asked if food had something in it. I have a lot of things I can't eat so would of been nice if someone more knowledgeable took over my order. I went there because I can only eat grass Fed meats but the burgers have bread in it still. I'm only intolerant to things so I feel crappy when eat things not suppose to. Feel like craps today so think I may still have been miss Informed about food I finally settled on as was only option. I emailed over a month ago asking about food and was told my request would be sent to the chef and never got a response. I just tried to reply to email to complain and email won't get through. Maybe they will get the message here. If your thing is healthy foods you should have a better way of explaining what's in them as you will attract people like me. I ended up still hungry and making dinner when I got home. I asked how veggies where cooked and was told probably in oil. I can't have certain oils so really limited my option I couldn't even get veggies. In hindsight she said probably ha like go find out for sure. Didn't think to ask if they could just not cook mine in oil. They should offer though I was already having an off day and was getting tired of asking one question and waiting for an answer. Was also for my bday thanks for nothing. The food did taste amazing and everyone's food smelled amazing but if you don't know if you can eat it because your waitress doesn't know what's in it then what's the point? I don't expect the waitress to know but she could of got someone that did. They could of replied to my email. They could have information on there website. Even the salsa isn't typical salsa so if I didn't have allergies I would maybe still be disappointed at that as there menu isn't descriptive enough to know that. I was super excited this place existed and then given worse service then places that don't advertise they have healthy food.
Ordered a corn bread. Wasn’t expecting it to taste so good!
Nice little place quite good
Tamara was so nice and helpful. We definitely will come back ????
Great spot, food is interesting and delicious.
Great food
Borealis mismanagement and overbooking of a large separate event on the night of the Tragically Hip concert created a horrible evening for those of us who had reservations there to watch the concert. My friends and I booked a table for supper and to watch the Tragically Hip concert after Borealis had advertised they would be showing the concert on a big screen in the dining room. When we arrived that evening we were told that there was a large party in progress but they knew they were to end in time for the concert. Our server repeated this reassurance so we decided to stay and ordered drinks, appetizers, a bottle of wine, entrees. Many, if not all, of the tables were booked by people like us planning to watch the concert. Many left the dining room but we stayed. The party did not end as promised. We still had our meals in front of us as we were moved to a table in the noisy bar area where those around us were not there to watch the concert. We were told that we would be moved back when the party ended. We finished our meals and were moved back about an hour later. There were still about a dozen people from the party seated at two tables directly in front of the screen. They were socializing, talking loudly, not watching the concert. A couple of them told us that they had not been told about the concert at 8:30 pm. Some were interested in the concert too and also expressed frustration with their talking friends. Before the party finally broke up at 10:10 pm, one of them shouted abusively at us that we should have gone home if we wanted to watch the concert. Management had done nothing to relocate the socializing party goers who were interfering with the enjoyment of the concert by the 20 to 30 people who were there.
The venue for this restaurant is absolutely perfect. It is the old Kitchener school house which has been restored and turned into a beautiful piece of art. The service is impeccable and all the food and drink is as local as possible It's about time someone thought about this. Genius. You must go, and ask to sit in the upper dinner area.
Went there for family day lunch, ordered salmon and clam curry, told the to hold the cilantro which they did but it was full of the flavour that is all I could taste otherwise it was just plain bland. In the past we had been there for lunch and dinner and all was tasty. This time it was very disappointing my friends pasta was bland also as was the dipping roast beef. Don't know what has changed in there but we (5) will not be back anytime soon.
Great food, even better service! Yummy cocktails, juicy steak, quick and personable
Great service. A bit pricey but really enjoyed my experience there.
Borealis is one of the first restaurants I visited when I moved into Guelph. What a great treat! The atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. They have a really nice patio, though I've never actually been out on it. Some day! My wife and I had our engagement party here last year too. We had a private room in the back with beautiful stone siding and the steak I had was very delicious. All the food here is sourced locally as well, so that's a bonus to me. Would definitely recommend
The waitress that served us was fantastic. Very polite. Made me feel very welcome. Thank u Tamara for the great service
Great spot! Atmosphere was comfortable. Service was friendly and attentive. Bison sirloin was exceptional. I'll be back again when in Guelph.
I have been here multiple times. It never ceases to fill both my appetite and my curiosity. The drinks that are seasonal tend to be more of the tasty ones to pick of. Their menu is delightful, it is a bit on the expensive side depending on what you decide to order. The server tends to be fast, but seems to lose track of checking in with us after asking about the first bite.
Gotta say the borealis in kitchener is pretty decent, but went to this one the other day and the food was sub par. Service was okay and beer was cold, just don't think I'd be back.
Good food Great service Reasonable prices.
Really well priced for quality of food. Good service too
My fiancé and I are absolutely obsessed with their quinoa arugula salad! It is so addictive! The customer service is phenomenal and the staff are super friendly! If you live in Guelph you have to try it for yourself! They also have an amazing burger! Highly recommend this place! Thanks :)
I was so delighted to find a sour beer on tap! The food was better than excellent and when you consider the price, it can't be beat. Our server was friendly and efficient. There is a window into the kitchen and the kids thought it was really neat that the chefs waved to them. Definitely a great place, I'll recommend and I'll be back.
Good service, great beer selection on tap, and great food. I liked how knowledgeable the staff were about all the food and drink offerings.
Comfortable friendly atmosphere. Great food!
Amazing food and service! Best nachos and mousse ever
First time going to borealis was quite pleasant. Our first course was the mussels. They were cooked to perfection and the sauce was especially delicious. Just wish we had some more bread to go alongside . I got the Cornish hen dinner . It was lovely and the potatoes were done so well. My boyfriend got the fish and chips which he said was divine . Our dessert was the cobbler . The ice cream was grear however wish the apple pieces were cut a bit smaller . Overall great meal !
Quaint local fare cosy restaurant in the south end of Guelph; cool concept food with great recipes based on sustainability, as well as great taste. Carbon neutral footprint too!
Nice service from the team here, and the food was tasty. Everyone was very respectful of vivid guidelines, which was appreciated.
Great deal on Wednesdays for Date Night; 2 Can Dine for $50. I had the cornish hen and that was super juicy. Great service as well. I'd come back just for the patio. Lots of daily deals as well.
Great food and great staff. Will go back again.
Lovely food. Wait staff very good. One of the few places I've been to where the fries are not gluten free. Big disappointment for my husband. That should be addressed.
Lovely place. Great pub style menu, reasonable. Decent parking outside. Lovely atmosphere inside
I went to the Borealis pub and grill for a lovely dinner with my mother and wife.
Highly recommend! They have great food and cocktails. I'm a big fan of the jalepeno cornbread and braised ribs!
They had a good variety of foods which they buy from locl farms. The wine comes from all Ontario wineries. The service was fast and our server was quite knowledgeable and friendly. They have a small private room for about 20 people.
Special of the day was a buttermilk fried chicken thigh on a bun. The meat was delicious and tasted incredibly fresh. Paired it with a lemon thyme IPA from Royal City and had a fantastic lunch.
This place never disappoints, great food and awesome selection of craft beer. Came back home from BC for a visit this weekend and will make sure to visit borealis the next time I'm here.
Great food, amazing environment and a perfect place for reservations, or even just a date night. Super friendly and accommodating staff.
When I visit Guelph or Kitchener, Borealis is my go to dine in restaurant. They never disappoint with fresh, local and amazing quality meals. Specifically, my 5 gal pals and I ALWAYS get the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and extra aioli. If you are considering this restaurant, GO NOW!
Amazing food and service. I am 100%satisfied. ????????????????
Food was great. Loved it.
This place is great. Food is all locally sourced and delicious. They have a good beer and wine selection and the atmosphere is unique. Service is great. I would highly recommend.
There forlunch Good service good food good atmosphere
Relaxed patio. Good food and service. Very enjoyable.
Personable, efficient and competent staff. Tastefully well prepared food that is locally sourced. Some items pricey for their size and content.
Good food and service, reasonable proces.
Always nice eating at a place where the food is going to be fresh and local. A nice ambience and a good place to catch up with friends
Great food and service. LOVE tge emphasis on local products.
Wonderful food, drinks, and atmosphere. I was really pleased to see that they have a mocktails menu, as I don’t drink. Our waitress Tamara was excellent and provided good suggestions for our meal as we had never been there before. I would highly recommend Borealis as spot for date, to meet with friends, or just to enjoy a drink on the patio.
Great good, friendly service. Highly recommend the Beef ribs and the Trout.
Meal type
Great evening at Borealis last night! The staff was fantastic and had perfect COVID protocols in place. So nice to have dinner at restaurants again!
The date night deal has good value and delicious flavors to choose from. The $20 bottle of wine was ok too
Great service and a phenomenal mushroom burger... I will be craving that forever ????
First of all our server was very friendly and helpful..(Brendon) we ordered Caesar salads and beef barley soup, which my friend very much enjoyed. The Caesar salad was very disappointing,so bland,no bacon or lemon wedges and non descriptive croutons. The dressing was not at all flavourful. The beef short ribs were quite tasty and the fish and chips were tasty with good sized portions.I had the butternut squash pasta which was amazing! But a very small portion and absolutely no garnish, not even a small piece of garlic toast,so for 18,95 not great value for the money..great coffee and I had a Caesar from the bar that was excellent! Happy to see the restaurant busy, good to see people out enjoying themselves again!
A great place to enjoy high quality, local food.
I'll share more soon. Was great.
Great food, great drinks. Super value!
Four of us (seniors) went for dinner Saturday at 6:30pm. I found the entrees on the main menu to be kind of esoteric (in my view) but they had a smaller yellow menu with more typical items, and less expensive. I had the Beef dip, about $16. The fries and the dip were fine but the meat had some white cream on it. Mayo with a bit of horseradish?? Anyway, why would they put that on beef that is intended to be dipped? It was OK, just OK. My friend ordered the fish and chips $20, but it was pickerel and he decided he did not like that fish. His wife ate some of it and said it was fine. The ladies each ordered the Quinoa bowl, no meat, and both said it was good BUT both left most of their quinoa on the plate when they were finished. ($20: quinoa + lentils, ginger, sweet potato, onion, apple, mushrooms, kale, chimichurri... that is food??) Service was great but honestly, I doubt any of us would go back here for dinner.
The food and service was great. So nice that everything is Ontario sourced. Hands down the best cornbread I've ever had.
Service was fast and friendly.
Excellent food and terrific service. Great cocktails and beautiful patio. Not much more you can ask for.
We had an amazing meal with wonderful service. We told Dylan our server we were celebrating John Prine as we were to see him in concert last night and sadly John passed away from Covid. A few minutes later we could hear John Prine being played on the patio stereo. We enjoyed our delicious meal listening to The great John Prine! Thank you Dylan for an amazing evening!
Great local bar and grille! Gotta love a local company shopping and supporting local farmers and breweries
You really must want to “save the planet” to eat here. Really wanted to like the place but food was very ordinary for the price. Service slow. Waitress was good though. She should look for a better place to work

Went on a Sunday for lunch with family. Very attentive staff and a great atmosphere. Food was great and fairly priced for the quality. Highly recommended.
enjoyed the food here the quality was on point and seasoned, first impressions were great
Excellent food. Excellent service. Social distancing in place and cleaning in between patrons. Will be going back again
loved the burgers and the noodles are also perfect.
So I decided to take my boyfriend here for his birthday based on a recommendation and good reviews. We got there 5 minutes before our reservation and had to wait 15+ minutes for a table to be ready. When we got seated it was very loud, and we could hold a conversation. I ordered a burger and when it arrived it was not as I had ordered, and was told it would be at least 20min for a new one, so I kept it. When I started to eat the burger I found out it was still pink inside and was informed it is always pink because otherwise the burgers get too dry. I don't know how this burger would have passed a health inspection. Then we had cheesecake, and was surprised that it had no crust, some people may like it like that but please warm people. I like cheesecake for the crust and was disappointed. Very expensive for the service and food you recieve.
locally sourced, wholesome family food. great place. highly recommended
Delicious food and amazing service!
I've been here several times and have never found anything to write home about considering the hype. Service is ok at best...food is ok but I feel that sometimes they try too hard to make simple dishes fancy. Just not my thing, although many others seem to like it.
Lunch
Great food. Excellent service. The vegetarian stuff is awesome
Nice atmosphere. Music at an appropriate volume. The salmon was good but small. Non alcoholic drinks were good.
I went there for a business lunch, the place is great. We booked a private area inside, 8 thing it is called the wine chiller area. Food is amazing and the staff is fantastic. The burger and the sweet potato fries are great combination.
Food was good. Service was fine. I had the turkey burger with a salad and I enjoyed it. The kid's menu has a big variety.
Wow! What a great dinner. I made a reservation for Valentine's day and was completely blown away. The food was fresh, locally sourced, and blowing up with flavour. The cocktails/drinks were professionally mixed and I never even thought just the glass of water with a hint of cucumber would be a hit for me. The staff and waiter was above beyond customer focus and very friendly. The restaurant itself is nicely layed out, you don't feel crammed together if it's a busy night. I will gladly return here and I highly recommend coming here. Thanks for a great night borealis!
Great food! Good beer and wine selection. Good service.
Food is so good here! This last time we were in for lunch. No one else was In the restaurant - but service was so slow.
Food is absolutely delicious and menu has so much variety. Always A+ meals
Interesting menu, adequate service, a little pricey
Nice location, good food and I like the fact it was quiet for lunch
Amazing food and service!
This place has delicious cocktails which are 2 dollars off on Fridays. Came here with my mom on a Friday night and Sat on the patio, quite cozy. The service is impeccable, restaurant is noticeably clean. We had a hard time deciding what to order as there was a variety of options for a menu that was only one page! Ended up settling for a salad with grilled chicken on the side. Must try the ceaser if you come here! Served in a cute mason jar.
Good food and service. Went with a large group and we were served in a reasonable amount of time.
Went to this restaurant with my wife last week. Place was so good and relaxed. Food was really good and i really like their desserts options. Their service was really great and they do serve beers and coctails. I will recommend this restaurant with 5 stars. Will definitely come back soon.
Great menu choices. Friendly service.
The food was good but the service was awful. The server was impatient and rude and she seemed put out for me to ask about the ingredients as a have an allergy and was making sure I could eat what came with the meal. I asked what colour the cheese was because I have a sulphite allergy and some cheese is dyed. She gave me an annoyed look while she answered. Then the food came with an ingredient I asked to be removed because of my allergies. She was difficult to flag down to send it back. She was pleasant to everyone else at the table but i did not get the same treatment. Not pleased with the experience.
We started with sharing the Caesar salad, we both very much enjoyed the combination of the kale in the salad it was quite good. I have the Aged cheddar burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were better than the burger I found the burger quite dry. Hubby had the marinated grilled bison sirloin which I believe was one of their expensive items on their menu for $33.95. It was very very tasty. The Bison was cooked very well and hubby loved the little potatoes. Overall it was a good experience, good service.
Wonderful place to eat for both the Veteran and meat lover . Friendly staff . ????????
Very nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. Large selection of beers, including some that are made specially for the restaurant by the excellent local Wellington Brewery. The menu has a wide variety of options, most of which highlight locally sourced produce. The daily drink and food specials are a very good value, but even the regular menu is very fairly priced.
Overpriced with limited menu options and portions.
Unique and healthy meal choices, great beer and just lovely atmosphere. Servers are professional and sweet.
Great Thanksgiving dinner. Service was excellent. Turkey was moist. Cranberry sauce could have been sweeter. Overall great value and food.
Amazing food and even better service!
We showed up at 9pm and were told by the staff that they had made an "executive decision" to close one hour early and would not be seating us. Then they went on to explain that it "costs more" to keep the staff on when it's slow and it is not worth it to serve customers. How unprofessional to say these things to your customers. Then we watched as this employee turned away another 2 customers right after us. So she turns away 4 customers in less than one minute complaining that they're not making enough money?? We were planning on spending 100 and I'm sure the other 2 customers wanted food and booze too. We were blown away that a restaurant would refuse to accept 4 customers who want to give you their money. Really not smart. If it's slow, reduce the staff but honour your posted hours otherwise you waste the customers time and they don't come back. We went and spent our money at the fat duck, a place we've never been and we loved it. They also use local ingredients. So I would just suggest people go there rather than this poorly run business.

Went today with my husband, our baby, and my brother. They were excellent with social distancing; someone even met us at the outside door to show us to our table. The service was excellent. They were great with showing us dairy free options, and all the food was delicious. Highly recommend the sweet potato fries and the veggie tacos.
Great restaurant and lovely staff. They even surprised us with a complimentary dessert for our anniversary celebration.
Service was amazing and the food was excellent, big portions and made to perfection. Highly recommended.
Had the Elk Meatloaf. It was great. Server was very attentive. Hats off to the fine folks there.
The store was empty yet there seemed to be an abundance of serving staff. We were served unsalted fish and chicken tacos but at least they weren't greasy, hence the star. Didn't have menus printed, out of two beers we ordered, and total time about an hour and a half.
Food was very tasty! Online reservations available.
Very tasty and a good deal. "Date night" offer sharing- under $50 for two. Main meal with appetizers (we chose soup), and dessert. Delicious. Very accommodating as our group had by accident reserved at another branch. All went well and we had a great time and great meal. Friendly service!
Service was great although the wait for our food was longer than expected, delicious apps and fried chicken, the side fries and coleslaw was a little underwhelming, although we appreciated it being all locally sourced!! We will definitely be back.
Good atmosphere. They have a nice patio and bar area. Bonus: food is local. Service could have been slightly better but overall would go back.
I went to lunch with a friend on their patio. The patio was great and the service was good. My low rating was due to the food. I had chicken wings with a couple of carrot and 1 celery sticks. They only had Blue Cheese dip for the vegetable sticks and no alternative.I hate Blue Cheese. They only had 1 choice of dipping for the chicken wings which I also didn't like. Most restaurants have 2 choices for wing sauce and dipping for veggies. I don't think it is due to cutting costs due to Pandemic losses as I remember having similar problems a few years ago when I ate there before. For the price I don't think it was good value for money.
I was really impressed with the experience. The food was terrific and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend coming here if you're looking for relaxed evening with family or friends or even for a date. The food is great quality, tasty and the portion sizes will fill you up. I will definitely be coming back again.
Delicious, locally sourced food. The waiting staff was great as well. Go on Thursday and get the fried chicken.
Great lunch, fast service, support local! A bit pricey for what you get (!), nice atmosphere. Only issue was on the quinoa salad - we couldn't find it! And since it was the first word in the name of the salad, we had to ask for more to be satisfied. Which they brought. Thanks :)
Good service. Fancy place with fancy meals and the price reflects it. Not a place to go daily. More like special occasions. But it also doesn't really bring anything extra to the table, so that's debatable.
I have been to Borealis several times. The last visit was during the pandemic and I appreciated the care taken by the staff to keep customers safe. The service is always excellent and the food extremely good. I had the veggie taco (x3). They were made with chickpea falafels, pickled onions, lettuce, cilantro sour cream, goat cheese. The ingredients felt fresh and quality. It was a very tasty and moreinsh experience. I would definitely recommend Borealis Grille & Bar, Guelph, to friends and family.
Staff were excellent: Borga and Natalie. Food acceptable.
Food is excellent, service could be improved. I've been to this place on several occasions and the food is always worth it. Service depends greatly on who you get though. It depends on who you get as a server. The last time we went there our server was ok, but at times forgot we were there.
Asked for a patio table in the afternoon. It had rained earlier. They cleaned up a table for us and opened up the patio. Little samplers of beer were provided because my bf wasn't sure of what beer to order. They promptly made our drinks. The Caesar was excellent. Came with nice presentation of pickles and lime and olive and cucumber. Food was quick. Great sandwich. Even though we were the only ones on the patio they didn't forget about us. Excellent service.
Absolute quality and true to their name of obsessively local. Should be above 4.5. Family of four went for dinner. They care about every little detail. Service was excellent. They are a Certified B corp. Look it up. Hard to get and they have it for all three of their restaurants . If you care what you eat you'll want to eat here. Dont forget to check out the great daily specials.
Great food, great atmosphere, can't go wrong here
Disappointing. We love the idea of local food but it just wasn't very good. We had the nachos (overcooked) and 2 quinoa bowls (both bland and dry). The fish and chips and the burger were ok but not really great. None of us finished our meal. Even the service was sub par--we waited more than 5 minutes or a hostess to appear and finally went to the bar to flag someone down. We expected better.
We had our post-wedding dinner here with a couple dozen friends and family. The owner went above and beyond to host us, even printed personalized menus with our selections and our names. It was a great time, we will never forget it.
GOOD food, extensive, but not confusing menu. Fine service

Had the Falafel burger. Very tasty. friendly service and food was out quickly.
Not a large menu, so maybe check out the menu if you're a picky eater. Went on a weekday for lunch, service was reasonable and food was tasty.
Great food. (I had the steak; it was perfect!) Waiter was very knowledgeable, with a great personality. I'll be back.
Food...service......atmosphere. I cannot say a bad thing about either location. Locally sourced food and drink.
If in doubt, get the fried chicken; it is fantastic! Great service, great food, great people.
Great food. Server really made our evening with her bad jokes. :)
Started out pretty good, but then the food took 1 hour after we ordered to arrive. This made us late for another place we needed to be. Food was below average in value and quality. Mussel and salmon bowl had 5 mussels and a few small chunks of salmon. Mostly carrots and zucchini. So, not impressed overall. With many other better options in the area, I will not be returning.
I love tha value propisition this resturaunt has trying to be more sustainable by using local food sources. The service was great the two times I went. However, the fish tacos I ordered the one time was a very small serving size. The second time I got a burger and it was overcooked. I would call the food average from the two experiences I have had, which I was dissapointed with relative to their prices.
Amazing food, great service, expensive but worth it as a treat
A nice place to go. Food good and service efficent and friendly.
Celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday in a group of about 20. I had the caesar salad and the flat steak. Both were excellent. The server was terrific at her job and made sure everyone had a drink and was happy with their meal. Separate room allowed us to have speeches and show pictures on the flat screen tv. Highly recommend Borealis in Guelph.
Great food, great staff, great with kids even though they don't technically cater to them. Easy place to spend a Sunday lunch. Recommend
Service was friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. Food was served hot, and had great taste (turkey burger, curry chicken bowl, and fish tacos). Will return!
First time there, brought my parents. Food was excellent, service, equally as good! Will definetely be back!
Loved customer service and food. Amazing chicken wings. Reasonable price.
The food was tasty and the staff were friendly.
Delicious and nice atmosphere! Bring a sweater as I found it pretty chilly LOL!
Probably the best nachos I've ever had in my life!!
I love the fact that the food is locally grown and sourced. Have had a great meal each time I visited!
My last experience was disappointing, the food was blend and not to the quality expected for the price. The wines we got both the red and the white were not good.
Food is great and varied. Might be a tad pricey but you're getting something different which makes up for it. Unfortunately I can't give it 5 stars because out of the several times going there has been minor service issues: one time we had our mains take over an hour to arrive, but was compensated with dessert for our troubles. Then during the last visit the waitress forgot to give us menus but promptly remedied it when we asked.
Favourite place to eat in Guelph. Great atmosphere for family, friends dates etc. The food is amazing! They're great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike while supporting local and seasonal ingredients. One restaurant I highly recommend to everyone.
I cannot stress how good the food is. Locally and sustainably sourced food and beer from local breweries. I would typically complain about a burger costing 20$, but this one is worth it in my opinion. I suggest getting a reservation as this place is pretty busy and parking is somewhat limited. The staff seemed friendly and courteous. Water with cucumber is a nice touch
Amazing food and service. Very understanding and accommodating to a 10 month old. Porsha was great!
Good food and service
Reserve early to ensure you get a table. Very popular spot. Staff was great.
Great night out with friends. Food was decent and wine was yummy. The booths need to be reinforced so when the people behind you move and bump you, your wine doesn't spill on yourself.
Fantastic food, our server was incredible and the atmosphere was great.
Meal type
The grilled sandwich was really good.
Warm atmosphere with helpful welcoming staff. Head in for savoury fried chicken on Thursday's!
Service was great, food was lacking in many areas, temp, taste and appearance. Asked for some chilli flakes and was told they didn't have any in the restaurant. Probably won't return any time soon for food, but the drinks and bar looked like fun.
Best pork chop I have ever eaten. Nice atmosphere. Good beer. Nice staff.
We had a special take out "Date Night" order that was packed up and ready to go in record time with all the safety regulations adhered to, our 2 bags actually brought out to the car through freezing weather. Delicious meals! Our first meal here, certainly not our last! Thank-you
Absolutely love their date night menu, very reasonable, great atmosphere!
Extremely dissapointed with the portions they give while using ubereats delivery
First time here and I Will be back, the food is good and service is very helpful and nice!
Omg by far the arugula quinoa salad I ever had. Actually first time ever was today and it was amazing!
Always a good time, food was great
New year's Eve dinner last night was disappointing. Honestly normally love this restaurant but I was very upset to receive a pasta that was extremely bland and appeared to be just scooped out of a vat of a pre made batch of trout and dill linguine. Also linguine is a round noodle....not bow tie. ☹️ Great service but such a disappointment on the food.
Excellent food and service. It was my first time and I was very impressed. I tried the chicken tacos and they were the best I've ever had. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the food was bright and fresh tasting, and the menu was interesting and locally based. This place was a win on every count!
Love that Borealis supports local farming and foods. The food is always delicious and full of flavour. Service is friendly and attentive. Support local and visit Borealis.
Yummy burger and chicken burger here! I can’t wait to come visit in person!
Some friends and I went out for dinner and decided to meet up in Guelph. Good thing we made a reservation as it was very busy. We were sat in the back room, it was a bit quieter than the main section. Our server and our host we very attentive. We were given the regular menu and the special gluten free menu and we ordered from both. There were so many wonderful options that I had difficulty choosing. In the end I split three appetizers. They were all delicious and my friends also said their meals were very good. Next time I'll try to save room for dessert.
Great wings.
Fresh local dining.
Best steak I think I've ever had. Also tried their Kombucha vodka cranberry drink and it was als very good
Very delicious, waitress was very kind.
Great food! Great staff! Love the local support!
Professional staff, excellent quality food and preparation. Always willing to ensure your visit was made in a very positive and satisfying manner.
Good service. Interesting flavourful food
Food was all fresh tasting and delicious! Portion sizes were good, desserts appropriately polite at a good meal (and are priced appropriately). Our server, Colin, was very attentive to our big group. Really nice spot.
Fantastic restaurant! Great food and excellent service!
Delicious local food, great service, and various gluten free options. I highly recommend asking for their French Onion Soup with gluten free croutons, or their delicious Caesar salad. They also have their own tasty, sugar free ketchup that makes their french fries even more delicious. Borealis is one of my local favorites.
They made me a fried chicken sandwich. Not on the menu!
As long time patrons of this restaurant, my partner and I experienced the absolute worst service ever on their patio tonight. Covid protocol aside, we were left waiting with empty glasses and plates at every turn and had to actually flag down our waitress just to order entrees. After a two hour dinner consisting of appetizers, entrees and dessert, we ordered a glass of wine to share and were told we were cut off. I'm honestly speechless. This has been a long time favourite spot of ours in Guelph and we will not be back. Incredibly disappointing evening.
Wonderful local food. Small place, so can't always get a seat. Best to call first. But OMG the food is great.
Very friendly and professional service (Amanda). Delicious food at reasonable prices.
Great food as always. (Pictured: Fish Tacos + salad)
Great experience awesome food
Food is good but service. ...been waiting 20 minutes for drinks we ordered and have not even placed dinner order. Sadly may not be back
Seafood bowl was amazing! Curry was flavourful and not too spicy!
Great local independent restaurant when you inevitability try to avoid the chain restaurants plaguing the city. Great food and friendly service. Never a bad visit.
The food is generally good here and the service is above average. Borealis is a great place for a good meal and has a decent bar as well.
Fantastic service and food, felt very welcoming to be honest. Was much more enjoyable than expected when going to a new restaurant.
First time trying this restaurant today and I am very glad I did. I got the brussel sprout and mushroom linguine and my husband got the grilled chicken sandwich, both were delicious. They serve the exclusive Wellington brewery beers that they only distribute to local restaurants (the Havest lager is so good). Best of all , most of the menu is sourced locally. Saw staff deep clean and sanitize the booths after customers left. Washrooms were very clean as well. I'll be coming back soon.
Little more pricey but WELL worth it. I had the steak dinner with Brussels spouts. Best dinner I've had in a long time....just go
Great local food, friendly service and a great patio to enjoy the summer weather.
Great evening on the patio. The food was delicious and our server was very good
Lovely food and service
I really want to like this place. staff is so-so. Some are great, some are very unhappy. (kinda like they don't like their job) I've found foreign objects in my food twice. And the food is trying to be good, but always seems to lack something. Like it's missing a flavour. With a bit of help this place would be better.
I have been here several times now. In my experience, the food has been prepared in a sloppy manner, either poorly cooked or served cold. The ingredients and the concept of the restaurant are interesting, which is what kept me coming back. I have tried the fried chicken sandwich, the smokey burger, the fish and chips, the chicken tacos, and the fish tacos. The flavour of the dishes is pretty good actually. However, the food has either been served cold or quite overcooked, which makes for an unpleasant dining experience. On one occasion, they forget to bring the appetizer we ordered, and we waited for around 45 minutes for our main course, although it was quite busy. The atmosphere and decor is disappointing for the prices which they are charging. It is not a restaurant that I would go to regularly, but since South Guelph has a relatively small selection of restaurants, it remains busy.
Very friendly staff, our waitress was informative and helpful. The food was delicious and seasonal, I would highly recommend saving room for dessert.
Great meal, good service, great beer selection, thanks...
Great menu - not your typical restaurant chain menu. And the service was just as good. Good choice of bourbons as well.
I had a wonderful server who exercised great patience with me. The quality of the food is high grade and nicely presented with organic, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. It's a great place to pop in, I found hardly a long wait at common dinner time. If you treat your servers with care they will return the generosity. Thank you Borealis for a delightful evening.
Very nice place. ! They serve home grown vegetables and local cheeses. !
Amazing friendly staff. Incredible food. Can't wait to return.
My first time here. A large group of us gathered for Fathers Day. We were served quickly, staff were very friendly, food was delicious, atmosphere was comfortable. We will definitely be coming back in the future.
We were there for lunch and all enjoyed the lunch special choices. Their turkey burger was the BEST!! Lovely place with great, attentive service.
Borealis sources almost everything from nearby producers, which they profile in their menus and signage. The freshness shines through in the food. Nice ambiance (although a little crowded) on the restaurant side. Service is always great. The all-Niagara wine list could be a big stronger. Overall recommended. Unique food and wonderful atmosphere. The staff (specifically Tamara) are always lovely and make sure you have everything you need throughout the meal.
Dinner
Delicious local food. Good service. Healthy food. Good presentation and atmosphere. Slightly on the pricey side.
Top quality food. Totally worth the price. Head and shoulders above other nearby places with similar menus. I'll pass by other places with a similar menu to go here. This will be a regular spot for me.
Went here for dinner with my parents a few weeks ago. We went for the wing deal on Tuesday's=$10/pound. The wings were really good and crispy. They also had $6 sleeman pints on special that night. I also ordered their Fried chicken tacos and they were very good. You get 3 vs 2 which is nice. Highly recommend this place!
