Incredible place

Didn't order food, just walked around the place to take pictures. Such a beautiful view! Come prepared with a jacket because it's quite windy and cold (even in the summer!).

Guy Rotem

Wow! If you know you're visiting Newfoundland this is a must; however keep in mind that they are fully booked months ahead , so pre-book or risk being told they can't provide you with a picnic kit. The food is excellent and the view is superb.

Mathieu Taggart

The picnic is a must!

Brian Carey

Enjoy a picnic in this historic place by the old lighthouse!

What an absolutely magical experience! Beautiful, homemade food that was well worth the money. $27 apiece bought us a curried chicken sandwich; a ham, brie, and apple sandwich; warm ouzo salad, homemade lemonade; and a slice of chocolate ganache cake and a trio of Newfoundland berry tarts. The walk up was a little more rugged than we expected, so their caution to wear good shoes is appropriate! And we saw their big compost bin full of juiced lemon halves, so you know that lemonade is fresh as can be. Bring your windbreaker though - it's WINDY out there! But wow - the view equals the food, and it's absolutely worth the trip out from St. John's.

Amazing experience. Beautiful walk to the lighthouse. Food was good. Would definitely recommend stopping here.

I cant recommend Lighthouse Picnics enough. Incredible experience.

Great experience, and a fresh menu. Had an iceberg in the background while we had our lunch

This is one of the best experiences I have ever had. And it was very foggy! The meal was amazing, the environment was outstanding, the people were great. You need to reserve a picnic so don’t forget! They provide you with an incredibly large meal that had a side, sandwich, desert, and drink. Along with a blanket for the picnic. I am so happy I got to the location now, I have concerns that this is such an amazing activity that this will become overrun with people and the place will loose its beauty and seclusion.

Alton Newell

Great food and a beautiful location. It was raining during our visit, but we still had a great time!

Christina Zhu

A delicious picnic lunch! Between us we had the ham and brie and the curry chicken sandwiches, which were delicious. The bread was excellent, as was the lemonade. And the location and atmosphere is one of a kind.

Christopher Best

Great food and stunning views. Well worth the visit.

September 2016 Lovely day for a Lighthouse Picnic I was finally able to secure a reservation. I had emailed in early July and was told ALL the reservations for the summer were fully booked. I tried for early September on a Wednesday and was successful. The weather was cloudy driving out to Ferryland, but we were hoping for some sun. If you have a rental car you must park at the Colony of the Avalon because you will void your rental agreement if you drive closer to the lighthouse as it's a typical Newfoundland gravel road with a pothole or two or three... If you walk from the Colony of the Avalon it's approx. a 20 minutes (depending on how fit you are) If you're local you can drive all the way on the gravel road to the orange sign that says no driving beyond this point. Just park with the other cars on the grass. From this point it's only a 10 min walk to the lighthouse. The picnic consisted of a sandwich, pasta salad, honey lemonade and dessert. The food was meh. Next time I will bring my own picnic. The terrain at the lighthouse is definitely not meant if you have mobility issues. We did see whales spouting off in the distance. And the sun finally did make an appearance. We all got a little sun burned.

Jacob Laboissonniere

Wasn't too impressed by the sandwich, the lemonade and dessert were very good though. Really nice views from the whole area.

Tom Franklin

Great picnic in a stunningly beautiful and rugged location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Such a great place and a memorable experience. Delicious sandwiches and desserts. Such a wonderful and highly civilized way to spend an afternoon. Well worth the trip!

Kaylah Mercer

A bit expensive but the food is amazing and the views are spectacular.

Dave Ling

Food was okay, the experience was worth the hike.

Steven Luu

Worth the experience to enjoy the view and enjoy a simple lunch.

Bridget Lawrence

The experience is what you make of it. The delicate lunches are filling and delicious. I would recommend the Brie and ham sandwich (I don't like Brie, ham, or green apples and I'm still thinking about this sandwich a week later). The lemonade is not too sweet or tart. The orzo salad has great flavors. Dessert was rough because all of their desserts sounded delicious. I went with the ganache chocolate cake; it was moist, thick, and chocolatey, what more could a person ask for? I would highly recommend for a relaxing, enjoyable time.

Lunch was fantastic as always but last week was our best picnic ever!! We watched the whales (30+ humpbacks) for 3+ hours and enjoyed the sun and warm breeze. It was just like in the touism ads!!!

Jim Deal

I would recommend a stop at the Farryland lighthouse and have the unique opportunity to have a great picnic at a historical lighthouse. The food is fresh and made to order. You can eat outside, you will be supplied a blanket to sit on, or if the weather is not nice there is seating in side.

Michael Robbins

Great views, and the picnic lunch was fabulous. But be sure to book in advance, as they have a limited number of baskets each day. We would highly recommend this is an afternoon destination from St. John's.

Lindsay Rous

Excellent views and hike out. Expensive, but very worth doing, once.

Robert McSweeney

We had went on a very windy June day but it was extremely sunny. The whole experience was very enjoyable you park your car and walk 500 m+ (or an ATV can drive you the way for a fee). Meal was around 27 dollars and included an amazing sandwich on homemade bread, salad, fresh squeezed lemonade and tasty dessert. They had little blankets you could lay down and there was lots of little places you could tuck yourself in and be protected from the wind. There is also always the option to eat inside of you were too cold.

pretty, pretty lighthouse!

Greg Thurn

Considered one of Canada's most unique dining experiences, this is not to be missed. If you're coming here, you need to book ahead as it completely fills up for the summer months. Outstanding!

Excellent experience. The lighthouse is gorgeous, and the picnics there bring lots of people to visit.

Doug Farrand

Wonderful fresh picnic food but it is so much more than that. The experience begins with the tranquil walk out to the lighthouse on the point. You can spend most of the afternoon enjoying your picnic by the sea.

Ray Hopkin

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world for lunch, on top of having an amazing menu of top quality food and dessert! You simply must go here at some point!

John Handley

Lemonade alone is worth the trip. The weather is often poor, but there is a wonderful indoor eating area.

The hike was lovely, the food was excellent, the view was spectacular, the hosts were the best. You will not be disappointed with a few hours spent here.

OMG Heaven on Earth! Do yourself a favor an make a reservation to go here! The ladies are so sweet. The food is absolutely FANTASTIC! You get an amazing sandwich, slice of cake and by far the BEST freshly squeezed lemonade I've ever had! All on a cute little tray with a blanket to sit out by the breath taking ocean and to have the most wonderful picnic. Amen!

Shrimpy Mama

I adore the lighthouse picnics! In fact, I take all of our visitors there when they come to NL. The view is stunning, the food is fantastic, and the staff is friendly. LOVE!

Michele Donnelly

A definite Must Do!! Our host had been before and promised us a unique experience. Spectacular scenery as we had a sunny clear day. Be prepared for the walk on gravel getting from the parking up to the lighthouse. (although there is a shuttle atv if needed. One of our crew used it to get back and tipped accordingly) We were treated to whales and ocean sunfish as we dined overlooking the Atlantic. Look up ocean sunfish if you've never heard of it before. I hadn't. Weird looking creature. It was fun to watch the whale appear over and over again. We made use of one of the benches and had brought a blanket to sit on too. I had the curry chicken sandwich on oat bread. That bread took me back to my grandmothers baking. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their individual lunches that was brought out to us by one of the staffers. Covid restrictions means no indoor dining at this time. Worth the price!

Graham Wilson

Great lunch place and a memorable experience. Not cheap though.

Kim Peddle

Fantastic picnic lunch! Fresh homemade food: sandwiches ,dessert , lemonade all from scratch & a view like no other. Priceless!

Wonderful experience from beginning to end. The walk to the lighthouse was actually very relaxing. The lighthouse and entire surrounding area was serene and idyllic. Even though there were many other visitors, there was more than ample space for everyone to spread out and enjoy the tranquility. The staff brought out the food to us while we basked in the sun and enjoyed the breeze. The food was no afterthought either--the bread was fresh, the dessert was decadent, and overall it was very filling. Picnic blankets are provided; a couple tables are also available.
