Atmosphere is lovely, food is awesome, service is great, and Fernando make you feel like your house from the very first moment. We been there so far 3 times in less that two weeks, from the wine to the dessert everything is great. Absolutely truly Spanish food, Fernando "the Chef" come to your table to check that the food is what you are expecting for. The price is right for the service and the quality that you get there, I will recommend all the plates .. but the paella ... Delicious, the best one in Toronto.

Everything appeared amazing.... Amazing tapas, amazing paella, and really good dessert. The tapas portion was good and the paella was plenty. The service is really good here, they speak Spanish, and the chef is wonderful. The chef paid a visit to every table, even serving one and asking all how they enjoyed the meal. A really good experience, a really sweet and cozy place and a nice evening. But, the very next day both me and my gf were very sick. It turns out we got food poisoning.

This is one of my favourite restaurants, I have been coming here for years that the staff and food is excellent . I find that it’s very authentic being that I’ve been to Barcelona in coming here I feel like the food taste the same especially the Spanish Paella along with other menu options. They also have nice wine selection. After a great meal the dessert is my fav the mango cheesecake oh wow I can’t get enough! I would highly recommend to family and friends it makes you feel like you are in the Spain.

It was ok. Not sure why so many 5 stars. Good service. Portions are massive. You won't go hungry here. Too much salt on every plate we had. If you're hungry - great place for you. Like I said, good restaurant but won't be back nor would I recommend it. 3.5 stars. Place is packed so reservations required if your planning a visit here.

Excellent, tasty, exquisite fine dining at a good price. Probably one of the best cozy spanish restaurants in the G.T.A. Attentive first class servers, an open kitchen, and very tasty dishes. The seafood paellas are always excellent, and so are the many appetizers (crab cakes were delicious and the shrimp chorizo mushroom special)..the mango cheesecake was also great. They also have a really refreshing sangria!

The food is delicious and portions are decent. The service is one the best I have experienced in Toronto. Place is not big so it is better to make a reservation. Not cheap but worth the money in every way. Totally recommend.

I absolutely love this place! I called to make reservations the person on the phone was friendly and cordial. On arrival I was shown to my seat and introduced to the owner(or manager, I dont remember). He was a very friendly respectful person. I asked for suggestions and made small talk, my wife and I both felt very welcomed. We ordered 2 paella dishes and a bottle of Rioja. The wine was fairly priced and so was the food, though not cheap when you're in the Toronto area, expect to pay similar prices. The owner came to check on us a few times, and at one point another customer was finished eating. She was with a younger child and lived across the street. The owner had a staff member escort her to her building and carry her food which I though was the most generous kind act I have ever seen from a proprietor. We asked for the bill, the owner came to send us off, but first offered us complimentary coffee. I cannot recommend this place more, and I dare you to find better Spanish food in the city. To be honest, I have only once been so pleased with a restaurant and it was in Montreal, so I guess you can say this is my favourite restaurant in Toronto.

We have been to LaVinia 3 times in preparation for our trip to Spain. Totally impressed with the quality of the food and service. Tapas were great and creative on our first visit. The Paella was awesome on our second visit and Fideos were equally good the third time around. The owner Fernando Garcia paid a visit to our table each time and was very charming. We explained that we were soon visiting several cities in Spain and asked if he could provide restaurant recommendations. We exchanged contact details and not only did Fernando recommend several restaurants in most cities but he also gave us names of the proprietor or their family members. The experiences we had in Spain are now treasured memories, thanks in part to Fernando. Also need to give a shout out to the serving staff... Fernando's son and their adopted Irish enchanter. Having said all this it's probably Fernando's wife who is the real star creating magic in the kitchen.

This restaurant is constantly rated in top ten of Toronto’s restaurants. It is in my neighbourhood I don’t go as often as one would expect because it’s so hard to book a reservation.... they are so great that they are booked for months ahead. But few times I have been there it is just spectacular! Keep in mind that are quite pricey!

Quality food and excellent service! The owner also cooks, and his wife works in the kitchen, so it has a fantastic family-run feel. Waiters were very friendly as well. This upscale place is perfect for a date (if you're a young couple celebrating an anniversary), and also seems to be a regular hangout for groups of seniors who wish to talk about their retirement plans or their stock portfolio. Something for everyone.

Careful, insightful and insightful. For my first Spanish meal, I ordered the most well-known cuttlefish rice and paella. The desserts were cheese cake and mixed raspberry ice cream. In the middle of the meal, the master chef came out and asked how it tasted. It tasted great. I feel that most of them are regular customers and I know the boss very well. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner on the cozy front patio of this family owned and operated restaurant! We asked the chef to create our menu and we loved every dish. Fresh salads and perfectly cooked seafood and rich paella. Beautiful wines. The desserts in particular were a real treat. A real Mimico gem.

Best tapas that we had in GTA. We ordered 8 tapas from the menu. One better then the other with octopus still beeing my favorite and white anchovies a fine delicatessen. Quaills, calamari, clams with white beens and chorizo, scallops...each one of them with an amazing sauce soo tasty and incredible done on the spot...we felt transported somewere in Spain with also the help with an appropriate music ambiance. For the tapas, I found the portions quite generous comparing with other places downtown. It is more like an appetizer. We had to much food but is hard to don't want to try everything. Paiella done to perfection. All the food was EXCELLENT. Congratulations to the CHEF. Service was elegant, nobody rushed us even so the restaurant was full. They changed the plates and cutlery few times so you can taste the individual flavor of each carefully done and presented meal. All in all a really hidden treasure and a wonderful experience. I definetely go there again.

Excellent place. Was a bit concerned looking at the pictures from google. But when we came, everything was amazing. Food is excellent. We ordered from tapas menu and we surprised with food quality and service. We did not like calamari tapas (just personal preference, nothing to do with actual dish) and end-up talking to restaurant Chef (very interesting person), and dish was replaced with some other tasty one. Once again, service is excellent, food is amazing. Planning to come back for more authentic Spanish dishes.

Not sure why this place was rated so highly by so many people. The food, service and ambiance are all mediocre at best. And the prices do not reflect in the quality or quantity. Very greasy paella. The only thing they have going for them is that they don’t have much competition in the area.

Very nice Spanish restaurant, the appetizers were the high-light, our favourites were the crab croquettes and the grilled Chorizo. For our main we tried the Paellas, the Chicken and Seafood and the Seafood. We preferred the Chicken and seafood. The staff and service was great.

I found that either the menu needs a slight decrease in price or the food just one notch up. I had the oyster mushroom appetizer. Butter, oil and garlic. Simple and certainly appetizing. For main an amazing risotto with mussels and squid, cooked with its ink. This dish does deserve 6 stars alone. I would return especially for the latter dish. I have not seen in many places in Canada so I would highly recommend it. Last but not least, the atmosphere is a bit confusing, trying to mix fancy with family and regulars.

This instantly became one of my favourite spots for a great dining experience. It's not big, so you'll need to make reservations. The staff is very attentive and no matter what menu you pick from, the food is fresh, flavourful and great tasting. Prices are incredible for the quality and quantity offered. Parking is available on the street at $1/hour, free after 6 pm.

To our complete surprise and at the end of our evening we noticed that we had spent over 3 hours enjoying a spectacular meal. Nothing pretentious about this place yet the service was outstanding, no sales at the table just good old fashioned waitering. (Not sure if that's a word but it sounds right to me) We ordered appetizers/tapas and shared all of them, they came one at a time so we could savour each Our chef came out to the main restaurant to check in on the masterful meals prepared, another nice touch By the way the waiter is the son of the chef/owner. And you can see where service and attention to detail runs in the family. Just in case you are wondering, I am in no way related to th family, I am simply a very satisfied customer I will return to La Vinia

Came here for a school interview. Drove all the way from London and I can say it was worth it for the food alone. I ordered 2 glasses of white wine, a crab appatiser and the seafood pasta for my entree. Overall the meal was filled with flavour and you could taste how fresh the shrimp was. I can honestly say ive never had shrimp that good before. The service was exactly what I expected the staff were incredibely proffesional, the chef came out to ask if we enjoyed the meal, my water was never empty. Moving on to the desert, fabulous, absolutely fabuolous creamboule. I will return when i'm in Toronto and next and many more times to come hopefully. -Alexander

Entirely overrated in my opinion. The food is good, but far from great - some items were simply not good and I'm not even a picky eater (anything with shrimp was surprisingly disappointing). Prices are quite high (top notch downtown restaurant prices). Location and decor are average to below average. Service is also just OK - no real complaints, but certainly not a positive. All in all, I'd say there isn't very good value here. If you were to spend $50-100 pp, you can find significantly nicer places with better food. There are countless places where you can spend less and be far more pleased with the experience. i wont be returning.

Are you craving for some very tasty seafood? Then, this is your place! But, its best to make a reservation first! The food was fantastic, we enjoyed EVERYTHING: from the crab cakes appetizer to our yummiest paellas and delicious friend milk dessert! The vanilla ice cream was delightful too! And everything we ordered arrived fairly quick. The portions are HUGE! We had tons of leftovers, but everything tasted so good even the next day! My only suggestion for them would be to try do a better job with the bread they serve while waiting for the food: to make sure is fresh and maybe even warm it up a little right before serving it! It would make a huge difference! The waiters have been very friendly and helpful - very nice, professional service! Loved also the design of the place.

Had a wonderful meal here with my wife and mom. Delicious paella, rich with seafood and saffron and spices. Great wine, and a wonderful scallop appetizer. Most of all though, the service matched the excellent food. This is clearly a place where everyone works very hard at what they do because they love it - and it comes through in the food and service.

The food is very good and the atmosphere is cozy. Lovely tapas. I have been there several times and had great experiences expect for one evening. The restaurant was busy and they did warn us that the food may take abit longer than usual which was fine. The issue was that we saw many tables around us being served their food (both tapas and the paella) who had come in and ordered after us. In fact our tapas were served one hour after ordering and the paella was served to use two hours after ordering. When paying the bill my father brought this up with the waitress who quickly went to get the owner and chef. The owner then proceeded to yell at my father in front of the whole restaurant and tell him that he was wrong and ungrateful. It was incredibly embarrassing, especially since my father asked calmly and quietly why the wait had been so long for us, and said he wished they would have let us know it would be two hours. 4 stars because of all the great experiences we have had, but honestly to be yelled at after you've waited almost three hours to eat and pay for your meal is unbelievable.

A pretty awful experience on Valentine’s Day. Staff was very rude right from arrival. Told me I was 10 minutes early for my reservation so I had to wait even though I saw 4 tables open. In the next 10 minutes no on arrived but I still got seated 10 mins even after that. Took about 20 mins before we got to order a bottle of wine. Ordered crab cakes, they were quite good. Shrimp was very over cooked. They brought a second order of shrimp instead of our next dish, so we told them we already got that dish and were in fact waiting for scallops. Scallop was raw inside and cold. Paella was bland and over cooked and seafood was chewy. The restaurant was super packed with tables. Don’t know if this is cause it was Valentine’s Day, but we couldn’t even squeeze between tables to get to the bathroom. Had to walk all the way to the end of the tables and go around and all the way back to get through. Also the service was awful. No smiles. Very rude and pretentious. One female server was super friendly and she got scolded by a male server for not being formal enough... definitely not an experience I would repeat. I don’t know if this is because it was Valentine’s Day and they got overwhelmed or what, but still they should have been prepared as it should have been expected.

We had a fantastic experience here. The grilled calamari was done perfectly. The staff are very attentive. It’s a small restaurant but it’s intimate and cute. We walked in and they could accommodate us but I would definitely recommend making a reservation. I’m so excited to that I live walking distance to this place. Great meal - Best Spanish meal we've had in Toronto! Jamón Ibérico - Fine Ibérico Spanish Ham - well worth the price, great simple preperation with perfect seasoning. Pulpo a la Gallega – Poached Octopus Marinated in Olive Oil and Pimentón - not my favorite, but my fiance loved it. Texture was nice! Calamares a la Plancha – Grilled Calamari with Chilli oil - Best piece of calamari I have had. Perfect seasoning and cooked flawlesly. You could draw a knife through it! Carpaccio de Ternera – Veal Carpaccio with Manchego and Mushrooms - absolutely perfect balance of salt and olive oil to compliment the butter. paper thin carpaccio. Caldereta – Shellfish Stew - super generous helping of tuna, muscles, clams, scallops, prawns and sword fish. The broth was dynamite Colin our server was perfect, very attentive while not being overbearing, respectful of our wine glasses but not pushy to upsell or refill. He earned his 20% We will be back!

(2017) Went here for my mother's birthday. Had 4 Tapas: Spanish Ham, Spanish Meatballs, Braised Octopus & Steamed muscles. Followed by a Seafood Paella as a main dish Also had a complimentary Cheese Cake and Tartufo for dessert. Perfect amount of food for 4 people without feeling too full. Enjoyed the nice variety of Spanish food, cozy atmosphere, professional and caring staff. Even the head chef came out to greet customers. It was pretty busy, but we had a 7pm reservation to beat the dinner rush. I consider this place a high end Spanish cuisine experience as the prices are up there, but makes for an unforgettable meal. I will likely return for another visit to sample more items. Update (2019): Revisited for my parents 45th Anniversary + relatives visiting. From out of town. We visited on Boxing Day and had a 6:30 reservation and we were the first to be served. We had the Spanish Meatballs, Spanish Ham and Grilled Scallops to start with the Penne Pasta, Chicken & Seafood Paella and Squid Ink Risotto. Everything was absolutely delicious! Not spicy or weird, just flavor and comfort. This place deserves it's place in the TOP 10 Tapas Restaurants in Toronto according to tripadvisor. Its reputation shows through from the professional service, delicious foods and sweet and passionate head chef who visits every table after service to ensure his guests are happy. Update 2021: Returning in stage 3 of the pandemic lockdown. This time for my father's birthday. Restaurant is still going strong. Food is top notch. Service is friendly and professional. Great to see things going back to normal!

We had a group of five people so we took full advantage of that and split the following dishes: Appetizers: poached octopus, grilled calamari, crab croquettes, chicken croquettes, Spanish meatballs, fresh white anchovies, garlic soup, avocado salad, gazpacho (daily soup) Main: Spanish saffron rice with grilled Calamari, scallops, shrimp, and fish Dessert: mango cheese cake, chocolate tartufo, fried milk, and sorbet There was not one dish that we did not like, and my husband was about to lick the plate that had the meatballs. The avocado salad was probably the only thing that wasn't super special. Then again, it's a salad. I could've skipped the chicken croquettes as well. One person got the garlic soup with bread and one without. I recommend getting this dish without the bread, as the bread takes away the balance of the soup a bit. All the seafood in the saffron rice was nicely charred and mixed in. I cannot criticize the desserts as they were all delicious. Everything had the right amount of sweetness. My husband thought the desserts were not as good as the rest of the courses, but I cannot agree with him. Last but not least, the sangria! I would skip the wine list and go straight to their sangria. We tried the white and red, and hands down the red sangria. The white sangria was a bit too sweet for my liking.

LaVinia is a little Spanish restaurant located at the west end of GTA. 4 stars overall rating does give me high hopes for this restaurant. The restaurant is very small, and a bit noisy environment. Remember to make reservations ahead of time for Saturday dinner. Walk in is not accepted because it is fully booked on Saturday way ahead of time. We sat down, and the waiter introduced us the special of the night. For appetizers, we had garlic and olive oil shrimps, and grill quail (special of the night). Both are delicious. The main, we had the seafood paella and shellfish stew. The seafood paella is good, but not wonderful. The shellfish stew is tomato soup, but the herb favor is a bit too much that I cannot really taste the tomato. It is not a bad dinner experience, but I personally enjoy Italian cuisine more. If any yelpers live at the west end, definitely would give a try.

I don't understand the ratings. Definitely attentive and proper service. The chef also came out to greet us which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the price. We had the seafood paella which was overly salty and oily and the seafood was bland and not fresh. I've made homemade paella and this meal did not even compare. We also had the meatballs (dry, although tasty sauce), mushrooms (undercooked), and croquettes (okay). It was a mediocre food experience for an expensive bill. Definitely not above a 4 star.

We went here on a Friday night. The restaurant has limited tables, so make sure you call ahead or book online for a table. We were seated immediately upon arrival. I had wanted to come here, because I heard great things about the paella. I ordered the seafood paella and my partner ordered the vegetable paella. Unfortunately, the waitress misheard him and brought another type out. The restaurant was very quick to take it back to the kitchen and make him the correct one. While we were waiting, the chef came out to apologize and gave us some complimentary crab croquettes on the house while we waited. The paella was amazing. The first time I had paella was in Spain and I have to say this was even better. The portions were massive and there was plenty of seafood in mine. My partner's vegetable paella was also amazing. They both tasted very different and distinct, but both were very good in their own way. I highly recommend this restaurant and I cannot wait to come back with my friends.

This was a great night out. We loved the food. We tried the paella and the lamb and they both were great. The chef comes out and talks to every table and one point of the night. The service was great and friendly. Not always parking so give your self some time to find some. Not a large place so make reservations in advance. I have been waiting to dine here for years but drop ins are impossible as they are usually quite booked. My boyfriend got us some reservations for V-day and I was super excited. We are huge foodies, and love trying new places. Upon entering we got some negative energy from the server/host. Nobody had any food either which was odd. We arrived 5 minutes early and caught some attitude for that as well. Nobody tried to take our coats or smile, it was just awkward. Now I'm not sure what the heck happened with the food but it wasn't good. We kind of just wanted to leave. I love shrimp so I obviously ordered that, they were so overdone. Then the scallops were raw in the middle. Nothing had much flavour! It just wasn't a good time. I sensed some strange pretentiousness from the servers (all but one woman.) I think it was a "one-off" but there's plenty of other places I'd rather go especially on a special day like Valentines.

Super Spanish food, authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. Good selection of paellas, tapas, some pasta and meat dishes. I had a saffron rice dish with calamari, scallops, shrimp and fish - fabulous (and large enough that two could happily split one serving after an appetizer or salad starter). The only rub is a wine list without many choices under $60 and almost nothing under $50, so factor that into your thinking and budgeting. Very professional service, and an attentive chef who is concerned about your satisfaction. We'll be back.

This place is absolutely delicious! All the dishes are so tasty and cooked with love. A little on the pricey end, but the quality of food is a splurge that is well worth it! We had the most delicious meal last night when we ordered takeout from LaVinia Restaurant. The depth of flavours is just wonderful. We have been ordering takeout from other restaurants, but this was an experience. The Paella Valencia was delicious, flavourful, but the Boquerones en Vinagre was phenomenal. It took us right back to our trip to Spain. If you want to experience food and flavours, I definitely recommend ordering from LaVinia. Delicious.

My husband ordered paella dish and while the quantity was sufficient, he felt like the flavors were lacking. My shellfish stew was again good in quantity but salty. Taste is subjective but giving my opinion. Also we were charged 18% gratuity for 2 people table. Is this normal ? I have only experienced this for a group setting. The server was professional but unfriendly but maybe that's his vibe. There are lots of good reviews but based on my experience, l would not go again.

I went here 1 month ago. I would have given 1 star but the service was great, so I gave 2 stars. I didn't like the food. We took 1/2 the food home and ended up throwing it. It was pricey, but I usually don't mind the price if the food is exceptional. I was very disappointed, I went there because the reviews were good. The server/chef were very polite. They did bring me the wrong item initially and then apologized to me for their mistake. This is what we ordered: Salmon Carpaccio and Grilled Calamari (Tapas) and Paella Valenciona and Paella de Marisco.

Great tapas selection, fantastic and generous serving of Paella Valenciana, Veal ( beef of the day) tender and delicious. Toronto needs more authentic fine dinning restaurants like this one, and more chefs like Don Fernando. 5 stars plus one more for being unique.

First ordering food from here, the food was hot and delicious, the service was great. we were very very happy with the paella, absolutely delish!!! will definitely be returning customers. Auxi and Fam thank you so much for the dessert also, it was sooooooooooo good :) 10/10

We ordered takeout from here for a special occasion yesterday, and were very happy with it. The food was delicious and still hot when it arrived, and it was packaged very well. Highly recommend the shrimp in anise and saffron sauce. Many thanks to the restaurant!!
