Excellent service. Friendly yet professional. Fresh oysters served perfectly. Attention to detail.

Bruce Ward

We had an incredible meal at the Courtney Room last night! I was so impressed with the service, ambience, and high quality of food we received. Our server, Nolan, was also extremely attentive and helpful with his wonderful recommendations. I couldn’t have been more happy with our evening! All the staff were so friendly and personable.

I'm usually here during the week for breakfast. I have their soufflé pancake and it's amazing! Today I was there for brunch on the weekend and had the crab and gruyere omelet -- it comes with hollandaise and is LIFE-CHANGING. On top of great food, the service is amazing too. There is not one server I have ever had a bad interaction with pre- or post-COVID. If you haven't, you have to try this place.

Barb Wild

Amazing food and friendly and professional staff. The price matches the high quality.

Joanna Williamson

Really excellent food and service.

Had a delayed anniversary dinner with my wife on this past Friday. We did the chefs tasting menu and where both very happy. great and creative courses with lovely presentation and yet managing to not be fussy. left us full but not over stuffed, well paced and as always the staff are fantastic. A real bonus for us was to expertly crafted non alcoholic cocktails for my wife who does not drink, this is so appreciated and a detail that plenty of places miss. We will of course be back soon

Zachary Schneider (Zach)

Good place to get drinks with friends and catch up! Right downtown, good location.

Mark Gage

Small bar in a hotel lobby that was recommended to us by two other bartenders in the city. It did not disappoint. We ordered one drink off the menu and two dealers choice and all were great. Plus the bartenders gave us a history of the spirits and vendors.

Amazing food. Chris and Brian are amazing chefs that highlight local flavours and source most of their ingredients locally. Their fryers are all celiac friendly and they take allergies very seriously. The fried chicken and Potatoes Courtney (gourmet hashbrowns as it is made with duck confit) are 2 of my favourite dishes. It is the best fried chicken I have ever had, so crispy. Many of their dishes are great for sharing, especially if you get an appetizer. I have been 3 times and I will keep coming back as each time is delicious and their chefs put their heart into each dish.

Nigel Horspool

The service and food quality is always so consistent and they have one of the best happy hours in town.

A french inspired restaurant hidden on Courtney. We had a wonderful time last Friday at the Magnolia's restaurant and I regret not writing this review earlier. Scallops, torchon foie gras and the country rack of lamp were delicious and impressive. Affordable wine bottles (most are from BC but they also have some interesting picks from New Zeland and France. Fast service. Extremely clean utensils, dishes and glasses. I warmly recommend.

Good food (had the coffee, OJ, waffles and veg omelette for breakfast) but highly over priced. Friendly and prompt service !

One of the absolute best restaurants in Victoria, hands down. The cocktails are amazing with a wonderful range of complex flavours, the food is to die for - especially the duck dishes and the deviled egg & smoked tuna appetizer. The staff are exceedingly kind and attentive to just the right level. Every time I've been has been better than the last and I anticipate that to be a continuing pattern. This is a must-try for locals and visitors alike. You won't regret it!

Great happy hour! Great selection of happy hour specials as well as a daily special. Enjoyed a lovely house red during happy hour as well! 5 ladies shared many of the happy hour appies and a meat and cheese board. We were all impressed and we'll be back soon! Oh and the creme brulee was perfect!

We ordered the tasting menu at $80 a head. I regret that decision. Tiny, limited flavor, and not particularly appealing food. Some parts were clearly over done, while other parts were still a bit frozen. I have never felt so unsatisfied with a meal, and then knowing it just cost us $160, I felt cheated. The photos patrons have left online of food from the regular menu looks so much more appetizing; I wish we had that instead. service was prompt and friendly. No point in returning.

Brenda Quinn

Creative offerings and a beautiful room. What more could you ask for?

Carson Mack

The food was excellent and the cocktails were very good and creative. Our main course took forever though and I think our waiter wrote us off so everything after that was super slow. I gave it 4 starts assuming it was a one off

James Munro

We had high expectations, and yes it was good, but not amazing . The food seems to skew to the heavy/rich side, and prices are pretty fair. Nice ambience.

Istvan Molnar-Szakacs

We had dinner on July 1st. The experience was amazing. Our waiter was very friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We each had an appetizer, main course, and dessert. The meal was outstanding! Every plate was beautifully presented. Kudos to the chef! The after dinner drinks at the bar were served by an entertaining barkeeper who is very enthusiastic about his metier. We are definitely coming back when visiting Victoria next time.

Great steak even better fried chicken.

Robyn Stalkie

I am writing this review purely based on happy hour as it is my favourite spot in Victoria for happy hour and I have visited a number of times for it. The Courtney Room itself is beautiful, the decor is sophisticated, and it is a great place to go on an afternoon date. The staff can be a bit hit or miss but overall they do a good enough job. The food, however, is excellent, and during happy hour it is priced very well. I have sampled every dish on the happy hour menu, and the best menu item by far is the fried chicken. It is so perfectly cooked each time, melts in your mouth, and is the best fried chicken I have had in Victoria. I have also enjoyed the oysters, potatoes Courtney, fried halibut and cauliflower. For happy hour you cannot beat the food for the value in Victoria. $10-12 dollars a plate for generous portions of haute cuisine.

We were staying in the hotel over Christmas and had breakfast in the Courtney every morning and had Christmas dinner as well. The continental breakfast and hot breakfast were equally as delicious. The room is bright and beautiful. Christmas dinner was to die for. The scallops starter was sensational as we're both our mains. Great wine list as well. Service was superb.

Kevin S

Came here for belated Christmas celebrations! We all had the three course lunch offering. We all chose the same dishes and each one was absolutely perfect! The seasoning in the mushroom soup was on point. The deconstructed fish and chips was cooked perfectly and the dessert was delightful. Defintiely recommend the three course meal for anyone that wants to leave full and happy at a very reasonable price.

Gabby Kalaw

Great place for a fancy date night. Best beef tartare I've ever tried.

Last night we had our belated company Christmas party. 16 people in total. We were hosted in the Courtney room. What a meal, the wine was a perfect choice with the duck and beef. The restaurant staff were exceptional. We all shared the food as it came out. One of the best meals I have had in many years. The atmosphere was welcoming. We were not rushed and took every opportunity to savor in the eclectic flavors. Fresh season veggies, scalloped potatoes, the trout was out of this world! I would say if you want a step above in Victoria try the Courtney room. Great to see fine dining is still well and alive in Victoria.

Very expensive, the only food that was good was the oysters. Steak was smothered with sauce, chicken paccata was dry inside and the outside was like leather. Drinks were even expensive at happy hour . Wouldn't recommend

Truly memorable seafood tower Drinks were expertly prepared, it was also a pleasure to watch their mixologist at work. But it was the seafood tower that stood out. Look at my picture, the huge spot-prawns were succulent. Oysters, well chosen. Caviar with creme fresh. A sashimi item with foie grad. Everything about this meal was inspired. We were here on business too and everyone noted how crisply trained the wait staff were to heighten our experience instead of going through the motions (as in interrupting a conversation for “how are those first few bites?). Highly recommend for groups.

Alex Flatman

Spectacular! The tasting menu was a gastronomical trip around BC with a focus on Vancouver Island. Service (Gavin and co.) was personable, knowledgeable, courteous and all-around unimpeachable. Chef Chris visited with us throughout dinner. A perfect dining experience worth so much more than the bill. (Also, their happy hour/bar is not to be skipped - stay at the attached Magnolia Hotel and don’t be a stranger at the bar- Luke is a great bartender). Don’t miss this place.

Knowledge staff, amazing food and beverage program. Wylie will take care of you!

I cannot rave enough about the bar service at the Courtney Room. Koeye, Baz, Georgia and all of the staff make the experience here exceptional. The creativity, craft, care, and execution of the bar menu is incredible ! The Courtney Room is an absolutely fabulous corner of Victoria.

Haritha Krish

Blew us away 2 years ago. Extremely disappointing this time around. Ordered 2 starters - burrata and tomatoes and steak tartar (the smallest amount of meat in a tartar I had - maybe ever) were nothing special. Unfortunately no oysters. Waitress blamed it on the heat wave. For main - 2 dishes: 1. Duck breast for $45. Little flavor and the skin wasn't crispy. 2. Rack of lamb which was very chewy. I know it should be medium rare so maybe the cut was from a cheep animal. In any case - we felt like they robbed us. Will never come again.

Anthony Kershaw

Happy hour is worth it. I have been for happy hour many times. I do not personally find the regular menu is worth the price. The flavour profile of many of the dishes is trying to do too much and be too innovative. Takes away from the quality of the ingredients and makes the flavours confusing. It is a beautiful restaurant and nice atmosphere. Nice wine list and cocktail list. I do not find the staff to be very educated on their menu details, which I would expect at this restaurant.

Tom Kowalczyk

Cam Henderson

Superb tasting menu (so many lovely creations, with thoughtful, fresh ingredients and superbly constructed sauces). Equally good, the BC wine pairings by the bartender, incl. wonderful red wines from Ursa Major, Black Hills and Kitsch. Bravo! Bailey was an excellent and attentive server. Will visit again. Soon. $280 for five course tasting menu and wine pairing for two, plus tax and tip.

Charles Jian

This was our 20th anniversary. Started perfect, Champagne and flowers. Went downhill from there. We chose the tasting option from the menu. It took 3 hours to get 3 dishes and there were 4 more courses to come. Service was horrible. Brought it to waiters attention and he just shrugged his shoulders. Never any apology. What a waste of $600.00 for a very special occasion.

The brasserie is good , clean with snappy service, chairs are uncomfortable. The "dining" room is forgettable.

There is something about eating on crisp white linen...the attentiveness to detail and professionalism make for an elegant experience. They're in a class of their own! The food was well prepared and delicious.

Jacob Coats

Great dinning experience, great food and great service????

Derek Cruikshanks (Four Frames Photo Booth)

Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The omelette was great- delicately cooked with nice balance of ingredients. The burger and fries could use improvement. The burgers brioche bun was the only highlight as the patty was thin/dry and the only topping in it was a lettuce leaf. No onions, tomatoes, or any extra toppings/unique dressings left the hamburger quite bland. The fries also were broken/short where some were super crunchy and others were soggy . Service was attentive and overall it was a nice place in which I would try dining there again.

Derek Perkins

Attentive, professional, and very capable service. Nice atmosphere and tablesetting. Came here for happy hour and found the cocktails to be exceptional but unfortunately the food to be a little bit lacking. It read phenomenally on the menu but unfortunately did not translate to the plate and looked like it was cooked in a diner’s kitchen. Dinner might be better and given that everything else is so good it might be worth a try

Got the lot! Good meals, drinks, service and table privacy. It was very pleasant to be left to enjoy our meal and drinks without glass top ups every few minutes. The little cold meat selection and sweets were wonderful. Finished off with Affogato Frangelico! Top marks for setup!

Their crab & chive eggs benedict was glorious, not to mention the two excellent mocktails I indulged in.

Sheila my server was superb. The food was delicious. The decor was beautiful.Reccomend this place for a great meal.

Frank Yen

Tried the tasting menue with wine pairings for my friends birthday. What a disappointment. We have had experiences all over the world at Michellan star restaurants and are used to different foods but these dishes were bland, unexciting, one note and utterly strange. The saving grace was the wine. The somelier did an amazing job with what he had to work with. The table next to us concurred with out assessment as well. The music was too loud and pounding to hear the servers.

Clemens Rettich

The food was of medium quality but very, very overpriced. Priced at about twice or three times comparable quality elsewhere.

Ally Gray

The upstairs dining room fills Victoria's fine-dining void left behind by the demise of beloved Camille's. Service is impeccable. The menu is fun, playful, and inventive, even if my last visit was not exactly a slam dunk. (I had the pork duo. The pork was excellent, but the apples were monochromatically sour and the pommes aligot was grainy. The Riesling fought the acidity of the dish and lost.) The kitchen shows itself off best in the tasting menu, which, though pricey, is unique to the city in its interesting ingredient choices and flavour combinations. Go for the wine pairings, but just the regular one; the extra expense of the premium flight is thoroughly unnecessary.

OMG ! The food is insanely good. Service super helpful and friendly . Comes with a price $$$$, but the cocktails help you forget that. Martini customized like a starbuck fancy coffee.

Ordered the cavatelli and the duck breast. Had the strawberry rhubarb cake for dessert. Total about 120 after tip. Cavatelli texture was perfect, with excellent springiness. The accompanying sauce was savoury but not overwhelmingly salty. The bolognese cheese complemented the chewy pasta and the sour sauce. The duck breast was cooked excellently, with a crisp outer coat and juicy moist inside. The accompanying sauce was a very savoury pesto kind of sauce with pine nuts. Very enjoyable. Rhubarb cake had some sort of strawberry sorbet which had quite bold flavour, sweet and tart. Creamy texture as well, almost like an ice cream. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Amin Soltani

Both dining room and brasserie menus are sophisticated takes on classic dishes. Tuna deviled eggs have a great twist using sashimi, and the beef tartare was some of the best we'd tried in years. Also appreciate the non-alcoholic cocktails menu which had some original concepts worth trying. Wonderful service from our server, Eric.

Selina G

My new husband and I held our morning-after-the-wedding breakfast here for family who had travelled from out of town — many of whom stayed at the Magnolia. The service was excellent and they made made a specialized menu to meet our taste and dietary restrictions. It was the perfect final touch to a perfect wedding. And the food and drinks delicious. Highly recommend

Radhika Graham

Great new Happy Hour now reopened. Neat change up, especially the duck corn-dogs. Had always liked pre-COVID.

MoCuTz TheBarber

Good food, great service, nice ambience, but overpriced and slow. Came for the tasting menu ($80+tax per person) as well as the wine paring (an additional $55+tax per person). Food was tasty (Except for the main dish which was undercooked and overall poor tasting) and the service was very attentive. However, we only received a palate cleanser (a small piece of potato bread and broth) within the first 60 minutes after sitting. I had to speak with the waitress to ask if every course was going to take an hour, and if they could please speed it up. After that, the kitchen seemed to function at a normal pace. Would I go back again? Yes. I have been here before and the food and service are very good. Would I do the tasting menu again? No. Slow serving of food and high cost don't provide the value for the money. You're better off ordering an appetizer and main, while sharing a bottle of wine.

Fabulous!

I can’t say enough about the whole Courtney Room experience. The staff, drinks and food is top notch. Everyone goes above and beyond to present art. Thanks.

Bill Smithwick

This is one of my favourite spots in Victoria! Not only is the venue itself trendy and extremely insta-worthy, but the service, food, and drinks are always spot on! I have popped in for something as simple as just Happy Hour wine (which is usually a French wine for $7), all the way to a four course meal with wine pairings (special occasions call for big celebrations)! We love coming to The Courtney Room, and look forward to joining them again when the world gets back on its feet.

Siamak Sanati

One of our favourite restaurants to go when we’re in Victoria! The food is excellent along with the service. You can’t go wrong! Beautifully decorated and located in the Magnolia Hotel.

Happy about everything. Great food and service! We came back 2nd day in a row, that says alot.

Chris Marquez

Lovely decor and well appointed. Food was good but unfortunately the service sucked on this occasion.

Bill Melcher

We went to the Courtney room after reading an article on the restaurant. I'm a bit of a skeptic, so I went with a very open mind and was surprised at how accurate the article was. The staff were fantastic, the food was delicious and the environment was serine. What a nice night out!

I really wasn't impressed. The service was great and that's why I did 2 stars. The food was terrible. We were there on a Friday night with a group of 30 (of course this was all planned out well in advance with management). The Scallops and Pork Loin didn't taste very good. The Halibut Entree was the highlight, but it was a very small piece. The brulee was served almost cold. For the money try somewhere else.

Yes, worth the hype, aged beef farm to table and every other buzzwords you can think of it is that good. If you are a complete Dad style you'll fit in ... If you're the classic Cary Grant you'll fit in. Betty & Wilma will love it.. I gushed about food and didn't cover the service elegant...both upstairs and down

Île Sauvage Brewing Company

Great food. Great service. A little pricey...

Not sure how this restaurant hasn't been close down due to their super lax covid protocols yet... Went in for a post-dinner drink. Not only was service terrible, but ALL the staff (including the manager) kept continuously taking off their masks!!! The bartender was making our drinks with his mask around his chin... Another girl was polishing wine glasses with her mask hanging off her ear. Definitely did not make us feel safe about being there at all. We will NOT be returning.

mike wood

Loved this room. Comfortable and stylish. The menu was interesting. We loved the oysters and the duck fat fries. Omg. So good. The wine cellar could use more good bottles. The service was excellent. The spa and hotel are on my list for my next visit. Say hi to Cory for me!

My husband and I celebrated our 16th anniversary here. First visit to this restaurant. What a treat! The staff spoiled us. The food was exceptional. The drinks were fantastic. Treat yourself and go!

Absolutely amazing meal and service at The Courtney Room! The staff were incredibly accommodating for all of our dietary restrictions, AND they did this all with a great attitude. The staff rose to the challenge of all of our dietary restrictions including pregnancy related ones and a vegan diet. Our server, Greg, was extremely knowledgeable about how and where our food was sourced. Brian, the head chef, rose to our unintentional menu challenges. I was thoroughly impressed by how he managed to provide all 3 of us with a similar tasting experience for each dish despite all of our different dietary restrictions! I highly recommend checking out The Courtney Room and trying out their chef’s tasting menu.

Mike Hartshorne

Last night we attended a Christmas party at the Courtney room, and I was so impressed with the staff, service, food, and beautiful venue that I’ll definitely be back. Everyone raved about their food and the staff was fun and attentive the entire time- gorgeous, classy space with killer cocktails. Well done, all

Cristie Green

My family had a great experience at The Courtney Room for a late night dessert. We had the best cheese plate and a crème brûlée in a long time. I had a killer hot chocolate made with an in-house blend, while others had a nice glass of BC wine off their extensive wine menu. The Courtney tries to use local ingredients in everything that they make; changing their menu almost every week to correspond with the evolving local produce selection. The music and atmosphere suited the modern look to the restaurant. Mid-century modern miniature lamps (during dinner hours) sits atop chamfered marble tables with comfortable chairs and booth seating. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and open to ideas. Kate was knowledgeable in the ingredients that went into creating the delicacies we had that night. Overall, it was a pleasant experience eating at The Courtney Room.

Fantastic atmosphere and spacious, private table settings. Delicious, hand crafted 5 course dinner menu was superb, complete with the chef serving us and an explanation of each course. Cocktail was well made and very unique. Our server (Gavin ?) was extremely professional, knowledgeable and respectful. It was a great choice for our anniversary dinner, and we would definitely recommend!

Restaurant is beautiful, but that is the only positive thing I have to say about my experience. I am a food & lifestyle vlogger on Tiktok and work with numerous restaurants in Vancouver. I love to visit Victoria and check out their dining scene - while the city has numerous phenomenal restaurants, this is definitely not one of them. The drinks were awful, with misleading descriptions on the menu. Food was mediocre, we barely made dents in our mains, or our drinks. I am very polite about situations like this- I do not look for any free food or items docked off the bill, however our server, Kyla, was very impolite and not understanding. She really did not seem to care about our experience. This is my first time writing a google review, I normally would never take the time to do this, however the whole experience was just bad. An apology from the server at the very least would have made the experience a little more pleasant. Do not recommend. At least I got some interior design inspo.

Delicious food. Great service!

Vic Clement

According to our 5-year-old daughter... The food is “Even Better than Good!”

Alysha

We recently dined here for an important family event and without fail the service the service was best experience since fine dining in NYC. The food was fantastic and 2 of the family are vegan and the chefs made an exceptional effort to make 2 dishes and added extra's too, it was fantastic. The main reason for not providing a 5th star was that the gap between the starter and the main was very long, way too long. In a pub you can expect a long gap like that but when you pay fine dining prices you can expect the main to follow your last spoon full of your starter. The gap was so long it upset some of the elder family members. Over all, the Courtney room went out of their way to make our evening brilliant, the food was excellent and the service was absolutely stellar. I would recommend eating here to anyone.

If you're coming to Victoria, absolutely need to have a lunch or dinner here! We had the the 3 course price fixe lunch. They had a tomato coconut curry soup with chanterelle mushrooms, summer squash, and shaved turnip. The layers of flavor was intriguing, hearty and comforting with the slightest hint of spice. Next course was the Crispy Halibut with wilted frise, chanterelle mushrooms, and fingerling potatoes. The chanterelle mushrooms and frise were tossed in a light vinigarette. The halibut was beautifully battered and crispy. When combing the mushrooms, frise and fish in a mouthful, it reminds of the traditional fish & chips with malt vinegar, except this was many levels above. The final dish was Creme brulee, magnificently carmelized sugar crust. The creme was cool and creamy. A beautiful finale! Last and certainly not least, the service was impeccable. Not stuffy but welcoming and warm. Emily was wonderful and accommodating. The Manager (Gordon) was quick to greet us and made us feel welcome and attended to. Just a wonderful experience all around

Mike Turner

Pricy menu, but the food's great. The Caesar is world class

Glenn Garry

Best take out / delivery imaginable! SOOooo blown away that a fine dining menu has been designed for home delivery: and it works! Even the halibut was perfectly cooked and not at all dry. Genius! Innovative, local and amazing food I’d be blown away with if I was eating in a restaurant - but delivered to me door. Wauw. Thank-you Courtney Rooms!! (Aware this probably happened due to Covid - but please don’t stop it! With a young child it’s a perfect special occasion treat to have at home, hassle free.)

Charlie Ursell

Overpriced and not worth the money.

Tim Brewer

The duck breast dinner was very good and the pork and rabbit terrine had great holiday season flavor

Richard Rougeau

Good food and service. BUT, twenty dollars for a glass of okay wine was too pricey.

Sean Mccaffrey

Classy, impeccable attention to detail, extremely knowledgeable and professional staff. Fine dining at its best. COVID safety protocols are in place and we all felt safe here. Six of us tried the chef's treating menu with local Vancouver Island wine pairing. The courses were inventive, tasty and showed off the chef's creativeness with local, fresh ingredients. Presentation was artful and Insta-worthy. That being said, the portions are small. Like a couple of bites small. Having experienced chef's treating menus before, we expected to leave feeling full which wasn't going to happen here. One guest ordered another meal after the tasting courses finished. To their credit, after letting the staff know we weren't feeling satisfied, they quickly brought out some extra appetizers for the table on the house. A great, sincere effort to save the day IMHO. Overall I would recommend The Courtney Room for a fine dining experience but would avoid the Chef's Tasting Menu.

Service is very attentive. The halibut appetizer and the seafood tower were both good. The potatoes courtney were just okay.

Thomas Adams-Johnson

After a less than enjoyable experience elsewhere. We were walking along and a very friendly wave came from across the street. We decided to try it out. Had a wonderful birthday dinner. Chefs Chris Klassen and Brian Tesolin gave us an amazing assortment of dishes from their tasting menu that will not disappoint! The dishes are full of flavor and compliment one another as the dinner progressed. It was a great experience to get to sample all of the different cuisine. The servers and host were also amazing and made sure I got the VIP treatment. I was even given a personalized card to wish me a happy birthday! I will definitely be coming back again!

(Translated) Very good restaurant. Limits menu but we were a group of 4 and we all liked our dishes. Very nice waitress. (Original) Très bon resto. Menu limites mais nous étions un groupe de 4 et avions toutes aimé nos plats. Serveuse très gentil.

We had the Tasting Menu. For $105.00 per person for 7 courses, we were quite underwhelmed. The only course we enjoyed was the hamachi (I think it was). It was exquisite! We were there for almost 3 hours as there was quite a wait between courses. We may or may not be back.

Wow! Some of the best service we've ever experienced. Attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff. When I made the reservation, I let the hostess know it was my birthday, and a card was waiting for me on the table. Very thoughtful - no detail was overlooked. We even noticed the servers ironing the table cloths. Food was great - enjoyed the Dine Around menu- and cocktails were fantastic. The restaurant was very busy, possibly because of Dine Around, so would recommend a reservation. Lovely, comfortable and upscale space and decor.

Doug Cochrane

Dining for 2 upstairs. Service is friendly and very attentive. Nick, our server was nice and on the ball. Food came a little slower than anticipated. We knew it would be a slower dining just a little too slow for our taste. Great wine list. Halibut and dry aged ribeye were spot on. Juicy halibut with a nice seer and the ribeye was melt in your mouth. Cocktails were obviously made extremely well, shouts out to the bartender. Left happy, really do enjoy the last little bites they give you at the end. Nice touch. Come with friends and stay a while

Fabulous food and wine experience from start to finish. Not inexpensive for the tasters plate option, especially if you add the wine pairing, which effectively doubles the price, but you are enjoying a unique fine dining experience. I very much enjoyed the entire experience and well worth it.

Everything we ordered turned out to be delicious. A beautiful combination of textures and flavours.

We had a great dinner at the Courtney Room last week. We had already tried the tasting menu at New Years which was unique and exquisite so we just went for the normal menu this time. Tables still very separate so felt very Covid safe. Great service and knowledgeable staff. Never felt hurried which is good. Between us all we tried most of the main courses. All delicious especially the duck (pictured). Particularly liked imaginative pairings and the emphasis on locally sourced food. Share plates very tasty too. Would highly recommend.

Had dinner there this past Saturday and it was disappointing. For the price and ambience I was truly expecting more, however every one of the 4 entrees ordered was lack luster. Service was ok, they checked on us, but it was here nor there. Drinks took a long time and our food was longer even though the restaurant was not busy. I had the spaghetti which arrived “kinda warm” but not like it had just been plated. It wasn’t shiny or steaming like you imagine a $32 plate of pasta being. It was dull and dry. Out of 4 of us, every dish was barely warm. It was a let down for sure. I’m not sure if they were having an off night but the experience felt like they were. Too bad.

Outstanding. The food, service and overall experience were first class. Inventive and solid cocktail program, excellent thoughtful wine and spirits list, respectable Belgian beer selection. First class work in the kitchen with big flavours and joyful presentation. Rock solid service. We did the chef's tasting menu and it literally didn't hit a single wrong note. Stunning. The only area I can see room for growth in is the hosting/greeting guest communication at the front door; inconsistent with the rest of the experience, but did not detract too much from what was otherwise a beautifully memorable and enjoyable dinner. Absolutely recommended.

Stopped in for an afternoon cocktail. Not too shabby. Prices are a little high for #yyj but inline with other west coast cities. Cocktail was well balanced and creative. Brunch menu looked good - perhaps another day.

Great service.

Came to have dinner. Service was slow. I changed my mind as the place was uncomfortably drafty. I only had a drink. Service was ok but I did not want to seat and be uncomfortably cold during dinner.

Great wine menu and selection of food

This chef is unbelievable. Brunch with 5 guests, everyone had a fantastic meal. Hash dish is a must. Bar tender is the real deal. Total artist. Some of the best cocktails in Victoria. Only a matter of time before you can't get in without a reservation. Top 3 restaurants in Victoria.

One of the top rated new restaurants in Canada, and everytime I visit you are reminded why! Brian and Chris create stunning an unbelievable dishes inspired by local seasonal ingredients, the cocktail / Beer and wine selection is carefully hand picked to be the best highlighting local distillers/vineyards and breweries! The service is on point, attentive, professional, and social staff. An the decor is fantastic, with a major renovation done to the interior to look like a new York style modern brassiere, with up class fine dining area! Would recommend / have recommended to anyone!!

Don’t know where to start with. Not worth it. It does not mean I don’t I cannot afford a meal like this, but it is just not worth it. Something went wrong in many aspects. I have been to most of the highly recognized restaurants in Victoria. The price on the Courtney room’s menu is certainly one of the kind amongst many restaurants in Victoria. It can compare with those Vancouver restaurants which mostly sell to rich Chinese people like mott32. I understand they want to be more in high tone of everything, but it is truly incomparable with those restaurants in Vancouver. Everything in fact makes you uncomfortable a little bit. Servers are quite gentle and polite, and they are quite good at their memory in menu. I m sure they have a complete script of what to say through the entire meal time. It is however awkward after you ask for ordering food and confirmed by manager (I assumed) our server will take order soon, but nothing had happened 20min since. The waiting time between when we all set to order and our main entrees on table was about a hour! After this hour waiting, the food did not surprised us at all. I m not food expert nor a chief. I never got systematical training about cooking. I however know what to expect to taste of certain meats and vegetables. We had aged ribeye which I think is mostly failed to achieve certain level. Ribeye supposed has simply creamy oily fat, which makes the entire steak rich. Your meat should melt in mouth. Aged beef should contain strong essential beefy flavor. None of these happened, but in fact it is a little bit lean. Fat was definitely trimmed when they prepared it, but a little too much to my opinion. I also confused with the definition of medium rare. It is more like a medium well, with complete pink centre. My guess is because the beef was under the warmer light of kitchen for long time. The beef’s inner self cooking time is so long. The plate was warm but the beef was not at all. That just meaned it had been sitting there for long time with a bit heat on top. Lamb rib has the same issue with the degree of doneness. It is perhaps I was wrong, but is it a goat meat or lamb meat? I grew up in muslin neighborhood, and lamb was my main source of animal protein. I could not figure out what it was because of the distinction of the smell and taste of this dish. Duck breat was quite properly done with crispy skin. Halibut was also okay, but the size was really tiny. The taste overall was not too much fun. Vegetables does not match with the meat. For example, Soft marshed potato is better than half cut braised ones in order to match with ribeye, so all juice and sauce gets absorbed into the starch of potatoes. The braised potatoes was a bit isolated. Halibut with heavily picked vegetables makes the halibut to soft in taste. It does not stand out as it is more like a decor. Cooking is supposed to cover the bad and bring up ingredients freshness. I did not see it. Flying otter’s 15 dollar paella “soup” can just achieve it, but Courtney rooms 40 dollar halibut did not. 5 oz 2017 Okanagan Pinot noir, Oaked but finishing was to simple. The lightning of the restaurant was also not right, “cold” which matches the servers awkward faces. In fact, a “doll house” is the best description of Magnolia’s Courtney room. Everyone there was “pretending” everything was okay. This 2 hour journey just made us run to Il terrazzo to have another delightful dessert meal right after. The tiramisu and brûlée at il terrazzo are so exceptional.

We opted for the Chef's Seasonal Tasting Menu with their suggested wine pairings. Six courses of just the right moderate quantity, which is essential when covering six varying plates. From start to finish, the Chef and team created little masterpieces that spoke to their knowledge and artistry. Each course was absolutely spot-on, both visually and in subtlety of flavor. The staff were exceptionally good at welcoming us as their guests, explaining the courses, and making us feel this was just the best place to be. Bruce & Chris Tait

After our incredible experience this evening at the Courtney Room I feel it is more than necessary to write the highest of reviews for this incredible space. More people need to be made aware of this absolute gem. From our first step in the front doors to our final farewells, we were continually made to feel welcome and well looked after. Corey made us feel like royalty the entire evening, from helping us with the menu to graciously spending time with us so that he could help us pair cocktails to our desired palettes properly. Everything about each experience me and my girlfriend have had at this cocktail bar has been consistent and to the highest of standards. Baz's cocktails are truly out of this world and I can now say I understand the term "mixologist" after seeing him create masterpieces behind the bar, while continuing to have an intriguing conversation along the way. Not one detail is spared with the entire team and we would highly recommended to anyone looking for an outstanding evening.

Wow!! I've been meaning to check this place out since it opened. Try the Houdini cocktail, it is delicious. Had the rib eye with potatoes courtney, everything was top notch. Great (double) date night!

Food was awesome. I'd suggest to try the fried mushrooms, They're locally foraged.

I love this joint. I usually not keen of 5 star but for these guys, no problem. Great selection of finger food, reasonable wine prices, lots of BC wine, which is NOT my bag, should more of a diverse selection. Atmosphere is comforting.

We recently dined at The Courtney Room during Dine Around Victoria for our staff party and the service, food , drinks and overall experience was excellent! All our staff raved about the food and one took her partner back the next evening to try out the menu! Thank you for hosting our little crew and we look forward to many more evenings of sips and delicious bites. Four Frames Photo Booth

Any restaurant that serves one slice of duck (not a duck breast, just one tiny slice) as a plate doesn’t deserve more than a 3/5 rating. Also a cheese plate is not a meal. Dessert was way too sweet (whites chocolate mousse).

Had the vegan three course Christmas Eve tasting menu, the food was amazing and the ambiance was nice however for the price point we found the overall experience disappointing. The service was good but lacked the refinement you would expect at the price point and that we’ve had at other restaurants. Additionally the salad and entree (essentially another salad) were great however again for the price point it was lacking. We enjoyed the wine and cocktails. Do not plan on returning anytime soon.

One of the best Steaks I have had in a long while .Won't mention the restaurant that I was just at two weeks ago where they are selling a form of Kobe beef for around $100 a steak hands down this 45 day aged ribeye had more flavor texture Justin all around better cutting me . So glad friends suggested this restaurant is going to be a staple for us . Our server tonight was named Eric when awesome individual very knowledgeable attentive without being overbearing and everyone else on the staff were fantastic as well . Have lived here for at least 5 years could kick ourselves for not knowing about this place and when knowing about it not attending it what a mistake that was so glad we've rectified it now what a fantastic place

If you haven't plan out how to do doordash right, then don't do it. The fried chicken dinner was horrible! Chicken was so dry, almost like jerky, so was the fries. It's like they been sitting under warmer for days.

Honest review. . . my parents came to Victoria for the weekend and I made a reso for 5:45 on this Sunday night. Unfortunately, my Mom read too in to the "en route" @Air Canada magazine and what to expect. Our server, Chris, ruined the experience. He was slow, bitter, and unfriendly. The most disappointing part was that the food tasted incredible. It was delicious and of a perfect quantity; however, our server's service was so poor the overall experience was not worth experiencing again.

Great place for drinks and appies during happy hour. The duck fat potatoes are out of this world. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. A shout out to the bartender who created a drink feature on the spot for my wife.

A generous 3 stars. I chose to dine here as my son reviewed it favourably and frankly we kinda last minute everything. (That’s not the way to dine in Vic on a Saturday night). We were able to secure a table in the brasserie at their 7 pm seating. We ordered early at the urging of our hostess; she didn’t want us caught in the kitchen behind a large table. I didn’t have much time to peruse the list, so chose a red wine after the dinner order went in. The starters appeared quickly. They included steak tartare, scallops, and tater tots but we agreed the fried chicken was tops. Sadly, we ate the first course without wine...when it did arrive, I felt it coarse for a $140 Cornas, oh well. Onto the entrees. We didn’t share these but my wife enjoyed her halibut, the steak frites were underdone for one of our group, my daughter rated the burger a meh, and my lamb loin was swimming in a sea of red sauce redolent of blood. Unfortunately, a mediocre meal.

Relaxed atmosphere in an elegant setting! We didn't feel rushed, the service was excellent, and the food was amazing both in flavour and presentation. We recommend starting out with cocktails at the bar to set the tone for a beautifully crafted night!

Slow to seat yet many people “working” around us. Someone was unhappy with service and as he walked away. The server then acknowledged me and then just walked away from me? Not a great first impression. We were seated right beside another table yet all other tables nearby us were empty. Drinks and food took a long time but the food was excellent.

When you want a solid lounge experience…the folks here will treat you well. Have a classic cocktail and a wonderful burger and enjoy this town. You deserve it.

First time being at the Courtney Room. Came here for happy hour with a few friends. Will definitely be back as the food, drinks, and atmosphere is amazing. BIG shout out to Greg who was the best server I’ve had in a very long time. Made the night very memorable.

This is one of the best places to eat in Victoria. The choices on the menu are interesting, food presentation is perfect, the food tastes wonderful, and the service is unobtrusive but more than adequate. It is priced on the high side but I think it is worth it. We will return.

Good food and service. Very clean

I only had breakfast here, which was OK. My friend's mushroom benedict looked like it had sat under the heatlamp for a while before it came to the table, but my croque madame was fine. Service is fine, but it took a while to get our food. I give it a 4 because of the decor, which is contemporary and instagram-friendly.

Stopped in to enjoy an appy (Duck Corn Dogs)and bottle of wine (Tantalus Chardonnay), the Bar manager, Chef and staff are amazing and they make you feel very comfortable! This is a must for Victoria dining:)

We were blessed during our stay in Victoria to stay at The Magnolia. If not for that, we may have never discovered The Courtney Room. I'm so very glad we did! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner (we had all three)--you can't make a poor choice when dining here. Sublime is the best word for our dinner experience--among the best we've encountered in our travels; both the food and the service. Allow Chef to create a meat & cheese board for you. It's enough to be a small meal, but also an excellent appetizer to share. The roast duck breast was outstanding; the best duck I've tasted, it was so expected crafted. My husband had the rockfish with gnocchi--delicious. For desert, we shared a blueberry souffle with lemon creme. Wow! Just wow. Lunch was also perfection, but for different reasons. We had the corn chowder (gluten free) as our appetizer, but realized we wouldn't make the ferry if we stayed for the main course. So, they boxed it up without a hitch, giving us the best lunch to go on the ferry home. Breakfast was keto friendly, which was nice; I chose the albacore & avocado ceviche with pork rinds. Maybe not your typical morning meal, but I liked it! Every meal there was a delight.

Overpriced, for what it is. Food is good ( not great) tasting. Sterile atmosphere. The temperature in the room is terrible! We were freezing for half of the long dinner, as they definitely take their time serving you. When we requested for the freezing air conditioning to be turned down the temperature went so high that we were cooking! So then other patrons requested a lower temperature and we were all freezing again. Please make sure that you do not blast your heater or your AC. As an event planner I have learned that if a room is too cold or hot you only raise or lower the temperature one degree at the time, it takes about 15 min to feel the difference. Also a classy restaurant will control the temperature to make patrons comfortable not the servers. Your server seemed bothered when I requested a warmer room temperature, it was obvious that she was comfortable with the colder room as she was moving but most of us sitting were terribly uncomfortable.
