To the person who thinks the "crispy" deep fried ginger beef is not crispy.. that's because you got it for delivery. The CRISPY deep fried ginger beef is in fact very crispy if you eat it fresh in restaurant. If you get it for take out or delivery, of course it's not going to be crispy because it was in the container for some time before getting to your house.. -.- In another note, the lemon chicken is my favorite dish in their restaurant!!!

The food is sub par, the quality differs from being sub par to completely horrendous , most of the time the woman on the phone doesn't even understand any of the order that was given and the food is mostly late when it is delivered. I am going to look for another place for good chinese food and i suggest you do the same.

Gave Lum's a second chance after years. The food was definitely sub par. I don't know if it was left over from xmas service but bland and dry clump of rice.. Overcooked soogy to mush noodles. Disturbing and squishy ginger fried beef. Never again. 80% going in the trash.

We ordered this evening at 8:13 pm , it is now nearly10pm and they stop delivering at at 10pm. We called 27 times to check after 1.5 hrs and was continuously busy!!! I am so hangry and have no words for this service!!! Never ever again...now its going to be a bologna sammitch :( They should let you know its a two plus wait...I would of ordered elsewhere. PS Food never ever arrived!!

Sorry, wish I could give more stars... try somewhere else. I live not five minutes away.... NOT GOOD, POOR QUALITY... SAVE YOUR MONEY OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE... Ordered two things... 1) crispy fried ginger chicken ... delivered really hot, however it was mush! Not fully cooked. Tried to tell staff on phone... they said it was because it was delivery order... I know not cooked mush from deep fried. They said that is how it comes and they do not believe me that it is under-cooked by a mile! 2) vegetable chop suey ... came with only broccoli (alot of thick stocks) and 2 slices!! of mushrooms, and four match sticks of carrots !! ... that's it!

Order for delivery placed just after 6pm. Order arrival should have been 7:06pm. Not fast, but not too bad...but now it's 7:26pm and no sign of dinner. Dinner here at 7:32. Deep fried wonton: very hard, meat fallen out of several wonton, incredibly greasy Almond chicken: almond? Dry garlic pork: garlic? Chicken chow mein: mushy, very little chicken Fried prawns: ok The kids (teenage boys) were hungry enough to eat a lot fast. The delivery person was very nice.

The worst Chinese food that I have ever had. Eating here made me crave a frozen dinner. My rice smelled like cigarette and the almond chicken was just deep fried chicken with nothing on it. One piece looked like it has a bite taken out of it. I was excited from the reviews but it was just absolutely horrible.

Ordered delivery from lums twice now. Both times we got what we ordered, delicious and huge portions. Free delivery over 20.00 and reasonable delivery time. Shrimp had crispy batter not soggy. Really decent prices to. Definitely recommend.

Even if they are crazy busy the quality is still high. You may have to wait a while but it is worth it. For people saying they take too long/they messed up the order maybe go and take a look at the restaurant it is a SMALL family owned restaurant that serves good quality reasonable priced food. It's not McDonalds. They are set up for quality not fast paced quantity. Next time order fast food!

Decently-sized portions for a fairly low price. My only complaint is the lack of variety in the combos for one. Literally every one has sweet and sour pork, which I am not a fan of. Switch them up a bit and all of my complaints will be gone.

Please ignore the very negative reviews as they are completely false. The owners of Lum's are the warmest, friendliest and humblest of people who take great pride in serving up great food with awesome, down-home customer service. They truly care about each and every customer and make you feel like an old friend. I do agree that the combos could use some different choices. I would just make a good sized list and let people choose 2 plus have a rice side as well. I also agree with the person who said it's the cleanest kitchen they had ever seen. Lum's Restaurant is spotless. The food is fast, delicious and the service is awesome (always with a smile). I order my food as I'm leaving my house, which is about 6-8 mins away and it's almost always ready when I pull up out front. There was even one time that I pulled up and got stuck on a phone call for 5 mins and the owner brought out my food to my car! Like who does that? Awesome people who care, that's who.

ordered dinner, they said an hour, after 90 minutes I called, they had my order sitting there and said they would send it right away, had to ask if there would be a discount, offered 10%. after another 30 minutes they arrived.. I have a love/hate relationship with Lums. As a kid, it didn't please me much. I thought they used too much soya sauce on their chow mein and fried rice. Then a few years ago I tried it, and ended up really enjoying it ! Everything was perfect. But then I went a couple of weeks ago and while it was still good, I found the sweet and sour pork to be... odd. A lot of better was used so it wasn't even really pork. Willing to try again. Could have been an off day.

Please do not order from this restaurant, we ordered food from this restaurant after waiting for an hour when we called to check on our order they said another half an hour, then they said we are not delivering. Very unprofessional and zero on customer service. Super rude and also like to hang up. If I had an option to rate them zero, I would.

I ordered the dinner for 4 plus almond chicken and it was terrible. Everything tasted like it was cooked yesterday. The Sweet and Sour Pork was as hard as a rock and the prawns were rubber dripping with grease...inedible really. The Chow Mein was a large sticky clump. Sad because i used to order from here a lot. That was a great waste of $65...never again.

Maybe i had poor experience because i ordered delivery. Came late. No plum or soy didnt think i had to ask for soy. Before ordering deep fried wontons i reseached it on internet... looked good. Mine from lums were big pieces of deep fried paper about 5 by 5 inches. A dime sized portion in center contained some kinda white marterial. Nothing won ton about it. Fried dumplings... overall flavour okay... frozen ones from store ive had are better and were probably cooked more thoroughly. The ones at lums were partially undercooked and goeey while other parts were over cooked threatening to break teeth and stab gums. Greasier than ricky to.9 The sauce that came wirh them tasted really off i think if i just had some regular soy it may have improved them. Other thing i had was vegetable fried rice which was actually cooked quite nice. Maybe they put more effort into main dishes and if you eat in. I could sworn in past i had a very enjoyable experience here. Honestly i think just the shock of seeing the deepfried alledged wantons through me off. I was lookim forward to trying something new and got something that i couldnt understand how someone else would perceive it as enjoyable L

We live near Lum's yet always went into town to another restaurant for Chinese food. One day because we didn't feel like driving into town, we decided to try the food at Lum's. We've been missing out! Excellent Chinese food, large portions and extremely well priced. This place is also very busy. There are only about 10 tables for seating. They might take reservations. There is always a line up of people who have called for takeout.

The food is good, they are close by and overall, I'm a fan. However, tonight was not their night, customer service was disappointing. I called ahead and was put on hold. No problem, it was dinner time after all. When I got there, I tried to say hello to the cashier, but was put on hold in person as she answered the phone and took an order. Again, no problem, it was dinner time and they were busy. It was a miricale that my two year old was mesmirized by the waving lucky cats. But then Mike came in. He waited behind me. I guess he got bored because he stepped around me and started talking to the cashier. The same cashier who had been too busy to talk to me. Mike paid for his food. The staff hurried to put his order in containers and he left. My turn. My food was ready. It had been sitting there the whole time. I think the cashier tried to smile as an apology but it was too late. This was the first time I have not tipped. I don't appreciate being ignored three time in a row. The food is good, but I'll be checking out other Chinese restaurants in the future.

I live right down the street from Lum's and have tried a bunch of their meals, some aren't to my personal tastes, and that's after trying them for the first time mind you, so what? I ask you, does everyone like everything? The answer to that is NO! So, having said that, i was not a fan of the sweet and sour pork soup, it was not o my taste, but their Won Ton Soup is awesome! Their pan fried dumplings are great and the chow meins are flavorful and very generous. The prices are very reasonable and you get alot of food for the buck. Over all I definitely recommend this place if you want to try good food.

Basic chinese restaurant, with no parking spot. Don’t trust google pictures with this restaurant. Some of the food pictures shown are “seasonal or reserve a day ahead” according to the waitress. We ordered for takeout and they didn’t give us utensils. Overall, I’m giving 2 stars for the quantity of the food.

This place has been here a long time, like over 20 years long, so you know that they are doing something right. I live close by so decided to walk over and grab some take out. I decided on two different one person meals for my wife and I. Anyway, the portions were generous, the food was tasty and price was reasonable.

Great price and generous portions but food lacks flavour. The main flavour was salt. The Szechuan beef I ordered was more like Szechuan green peppers, with no beef in sight. Lums special chowMein has some beef and shrimp on it but they use the tiny micro shrimp. In the end you get what you pay for. These dishes could easily be priced twice as much at a place downtown. The staff is very friendly and kind.

all around the worst chineese food experience ive had in Victoria, we ordered the chow mein pinapple giner beef, and sweet n sourpork, the chow mein was undercooked, dry. and flavourless and came glued together in one big mass, the pineapple ginger beef was soaked in a watery sweet n sour sauce with no ginger flavor at all, and the sweet n sour pork was chewy and dry even though it came swimming in sauce. do not eat here, move along to somewhere better

We live in Vancouver where we have access to literally hundreds of Chinese food restaurants and every time we come to Victoria we come to Lums because it is the best Chinese food we have ever had! The won ton soup is amazing as is all the rest of their food. The food is always hot and delicious. The service is fast and friendly and they treat you like family. I would highly recommend this restaurant! It's worth the trip!

Tried to put in an order for delivery and was told that they only do delivery after 4 or 4:30. I'll revise my review after I try their food, but until then some notice on their website may be helpful. *UPDATE* Had the "Crispy" deep fried ginger beef, chicken broccoli, and sweet and sour lean pork. It started out well, with the chicken broccoli being delicious and full of not only broccoli but other vegetables as well. The sweet and sour pork was ok, but it was really just pork in sauce. It could've really used some vegetables and/or pineapple. The ginger fried beef was disgusting. 3 bites into it, and it lacked any texture, just a soft mush of ginger something, hence the quotation marks on Crispy above. I don't know if it's because I got take out that it was like this, but if I had it at the restaurant I would send it back.

Wouldn't Allow Me, My Father And Brother To Sit And Dine..neither of us were rude. We Walked In, Sat Down But Soon As My dad sat down lady said we not allowed to sit there. It's reserved. There was no reserved sign on table..and said there's nothing can be done we can't serve you. I said we came from Brentwood Bay. Said maybe 30 mins we might serve you.. clearly there was 2 other tables availbe. But denied service for no reason.

I ordered Chicken Chowmein and Sweet and Sour Pork. Both were ready very quickly as they were having a slow night and were normal sized portions. The chow mein only had about 3 small pieces of chicken and was quite heavily doused in soy sauce but the noodles were good quality and well cooked. The Sweet and Sour Pork was all pork, no vegetables, which was a surprise but not unwelcomed and was quite tasty. My only issue was later that evening I suffered a pretty devastating bowel movement and felt quite painfully sick. This was the only food or drink (other than filtered water) I had consumed for many hours and would have been the only cause of my upset stomach. It was a shame as this could have been my go to Chinese food place in Victoria but I'm not a fan of restaurants that give me food poisoning.

Fast, friendly service. Food was really good. I had the lemon chicken, but the entrees don't come with rice. My husband had a dinner for one special that came with shrimp, and the shrimp were huge! Food was fresh. You can dine-in or take-out. They are open later which was great because we arrived in Victoria later than expected.

I am a chinese food lover and have tried many many places. Just moved here and thought I would give it a try. I walked in and the place was spotless.Food was cooked out in the open which you never see in a chinese restaurants. Staff was very kind and friendly. Portion sizes were very generous for the price they charge which was nice to see. The food was excellent and fresh. I have to say out of the many I have tried in different citys, this one is in my top 3, and top 1 for Victoria. I will definitley order from here again and recommend this restaurant to others. As for the bad reviews and complaints about how they should add this or add that. Or this isnt the way I like it sort of thing. I say go to the grocey store, buy what you like and make it yourself. And as a small business owner, your picky reviews dont help great owners and great food. Maybe dont eat out if your that picky. Just saying????

Lum’s is a gem in Esquimalt for great Chinese food. We often get takeout and it’s always ready on time or very close to. If we have to wait a moment, it means it’s even fresher! We have dined in, in the past for birthdays and casual after work dinners. The restaurant is clean and bright. The service is great and the food is always delicious. We absolutely love their house special egg foo yong.

We have been ordering from here for over 5 years. It is consistently good and the wait times for pick up are also spot on, which is nice as they are always busy. Recommend the curry beef and crispy ginger beef. Fantastic food and very fair prices.

Ordered delivery and the soup was great! It earned them the single star. We also ordered spicy chicken and beef and broccoli, both meats were like chewing gum. Called the restaurant and they said "Thats just how delivery is" ok, guess they've lost more customers. Threw majority of it in the trash and lost $40. Also, the tip is included but they didn't mention that and instead pocketed extra money without saying anything. Harsh practice for mediocre food.

The people who run this spot are fast, and it's reasonable, but I've noticed after ordering a number of times, that all of the food tastes the same. Perhaps they are using the same sauces and spices for most dishes. They need to really differentiate flavours between dishes.

We ordered Spring Rolls which were greasy, the hot and sour soup was nasty and didn't taste like it's supposed to. The Singaporean fried noodles and the beef fried noodles were the better tasting of our whole meal.

The sauces and broths here are amazing. The low point is the amount of meats you get for the meat dishes. If you order the pineapple ginger chicken, for example, you get 80% veggies and very little chicken...they follow the same pattern for all meat dishes. Too bad. I wouldn't mind paying 2 extra bucks for a decent amount of meat on a MEAT dish.

Tonight I ordered for the first time in many years from Lum's. I used the online site and it said I would get my food within one hour. I waited 90 mins and then I phoned them. There was no "I'm sorry" no "how can we make you happy?" Just "we are busy and the driver has left already." So the food did come after and hour 45 mins. It was mediocre at best and warm not hot. So if there is a next time (and there might not be), I will phone in my order so I can let them know my expectations are to get my food in 30-45 mins and hot (I live 5 mins away). The on line ordering is impersonal and if a company is busy there should be a way to alert the customer before the order is placed so there is an option to order elsewhere when wait times are exceptionally long...

It was a very busy Father's Day with a packed house and many takeouts so it may not have been performing at optimum. Although the service was fine. The food portions were large and the prices reasonable. We ordered 3 dishes to share. Our pork fried rice arrived 5 minutes before the others; it wasn't very hot and was more like sticky rice than fried rice. But that may be how they make it? I didn't enjoy the Beef and Tomato Chow Mien; it tasted too much like canned spaghetti. Again must be the cook's preference but not mine. And the 3rd dish was Almond Vegetable Chicken, it tasted good but was too finely chopped for our liking. The fried wontons and Wonton Soup were very good. Overall, not sure if we will go back.

The sweet and sour pork was hard as rock. The chicken was way more breading than actual chicken. The noodles were meh, but not bad. The food could definitely be better, but it could just be that one time. I will come back to give it another chance when I’m in town but for now... 3 stars.

We were told 1 hour for our food to be delivered. 1.25 hours later I called to check on the status of our delivery. They hadn't started making it yet!! Communicating the extra wait time would have allowed us to decide whether or not we wait. With three hungry kids we had to cancel our order and make other last minute plans. Very disappointed.

We had ordered from Lums once in the past and it arrived 45 minutes past the deliver time but it was a Saturday night so we just assumed they were busy. We tried them again tonight and ordered dinner at 6:15 with an expected time of 7:30. We called at 8:15 and was told it would arrive within minutes. It finally arrived at 9:00... the worst part it was stone cold and they made us pay full price! There are so many good Chinese food places in Victoria don't waste your time waiting all night for these guys.

We just had the worst Chinese food we've ever ordered. Almond chicken that had unidentifiable hard pieces that were impossible to cut or break. The steamed rice was a congealed brick. The sweet and sour pork was hard and crunchy throughout. Absolutely terrible. A terrible waste of money. We're a little worried that we ate some of it to be honest.

Awful service. Ordered my food online at 5:15 for a 7pm delivery and received the email confirmation. Hadn't received the order or any kind of communication by 7:20, so called to find out what the problem was and was informed they were busy and our order was leaving now and would be the first delivery on the route. We live 10 minutes away and did not receive our order until 7:50. No offer of any kind of compensation for this or future orders despite the 50 minute delay. Many other Chinese restaurants have equally good food with much better service so we will not be eating from Lum's again.

Tried to get some sweet and sour pork at 10pm on a Thursday. Cops fire and ambulance showed up to haul a large drunk dude who couldn't stand up, much less pay his bill. The lady at the counter took our order anyway and was just all around pretty cool. Haven't gotten the food yet but the service is great, no matter what is going on.

Yesterday, We've got: - Lum's special Chow Mein: TOOO SALTY and 90% noodle nothing special at all. -Curried Chicken: It should call curried VEGETABLE. You barely could find a very small piece of chicken.I was watching their cooking, too fast because it was cooked before. It was my first and last time experience. NOT RECOMMENDED

I've been eating at Lums fairly regularly for years. I moved out of Esquimalt and I still make the effort to go there. The delivery guy recognizes me and I honestly love that. It makes me feel more welcome. Their food is western Chinese, but delicious.

This is me and my wife's preferred Chinese food restaurant. If only it was not so far from our house that would be even better. I am sure that they would get far more business than they already do for us. Their prices are very reasonable and their food is absolutely delicious. Lungs has been in Victoria for a very long time so it has a great nostalgic feel.

Overall a great option for those on a budget or just wanting to try out new restaurants. Ambiance is OK and the menu has a wide variety of stuff. Lum's use to be my favorite restaurant growing up in Victoria, but coming back to my home town after being away for 20 years, I see things have changed quite a bit, and not for the better. Lum's use to be the best Chinese food in the city hands down, so I eagerly wanted try it again. I took my father there and noticed right away that the restaurant was now half the size it use to be. Also gone were the older people who use to operate the place which is understandable because of age. A young woman took our order, which was chow mien, sweet&sour pork, lemon chicken and plain rice. The cook was a young guy who spent more attention with his phone then his cooking, but I figured he must be good if he's working here. I noticed a colorful stack of take out menus on the front counter and grabbed one to look at. It was a totally different menu than the one we ordered from with Thai dishes. I didn't realize they did Thai so I asked the girl if I could also add a couple crispy rolls with our order. She said that they don't serve anything on that menu, and when I asked why she didn't seem to understand my meaning. She just said "sorry", and walked away. My father and I looked at each other in complete bewilderment. Why would you display a stack of menus when you don't offer anything on them? It was strange but I was too hungry and excited to care much. Finally the food arrived and it was immediately unappealing just from the look of it. The chow mien was prepared like chop suey and was very soggy and soupy. The Sweet&sour pork was ok but the whole dish was literally overflowing in a gallon sauce. The lemon chicken which is a personal favorite was the worse dish by far. The chicken batter was uncharacteristically thin and totally soaked in oil. The whole dish was oil soaked with virtually no lemon sauce. I sent the lemon chicken back and did not take more than a bite of the chow mien which was gross. Another odd thing was that the table soy sauce had no flavor at all and I had to ask for the packets. The only good dish was the plain rice. I was very disappointed to see this once great place now run by people who don't seem to care about what they are doing. But as I go around, I see many restaurants ending up this way. Sad

There's a few reviews on here that suggest something negative about this place, but from my personal experience the service is great. I've found them to be very respectful. Love the food; especially the salt and pepper squid and the mushroom rice - all of which are at an affordable price. Portion size is excellent as well. If you're looking to get some great Chinese food, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.
