My new wife and I went to Sofra for a special dinner. It was our first time here, and with all of the positive reviews we weren’t surprised that our meal was spectacular. We started with the stuffed apricots and this took our tastebuds to a whole other world. We savoured each bite and by the time we finished our main courses had arrived. I had the Kale Mantar (portobello mushroom stuffed with vegetables, topped with goat cheese and eggplant, with a salad and bulghur pilaf) while my missed had Karides Kebab (grilled tiger prawns with a salad and bulghur pilaf). Both plates were packed full of flavour and were enjoyed from start to finish. We topped off the meal with fresh baklava which was a beautiful way to end such a delicious meal. Our server was very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely return.

A group of us have been going there since they opened. The food is totally fresh and seasoned perfectly - always. The menu has something for everone - pizza, shephards pie, vegetarian etc. We love the fresh, made in the oven on site per order; pita 3 dips platter; the Sultans Table platter; lamb chops; and swordfish. Service and decor are excellent. Make sure to have a reservation on weekends. Owner, Yusil, is welcoming and takes great pride in each and every plate.

Wow, the food at Sofra is absolutely delicious. I've been there several times and had everything from the steak to the lamb to the portabella mushroom. All fabulous. The stuffed grape vine leaves are by far the best I've ever had, in terms of an appy. Also, the service is amazing and attentive. Overall a wonderful experience!

Whenever I want to take someone to a restaurant for an exceptional dinner experience, I take them to Sofra. The CEO of the Canadian Lamb Producers Cooperative was in Edmonton to have meetings with my company and I wanted to impress him with the best rack of lamb in the city, so we went to Sofra last night. The service was tremendous and chef seasoned and prepared our racks of lamb so well, that the CEO's comment at the end of the evening was, "I have eaten lamb all over the world and that may just be the best best meal I have ever had." My advice is to take the word of an expert and you too can enjoy a Turkish delight at Sofra.

If you're craving Turkish cuisine which includes delicious grilled meats/ veggies/seafood and pita with various dips, then look no further. Sofra is probably the best choice in the city for well-prepared food. I highly recommend the pita with hummus, the grape-leave appetizers and the garlic shrimp as appetizers. You can't go wrong with any of the entree selections - there's something for everyone. I've also tried one of their Turkish pizzas, although prepared well - I found a hair in it so needless to say returned the dish but they made me a new one and by that point I was a bit turned off by eating it so it was just okay to me. The interior decor is kitschy but cozy. They are usually quite busy so be prepared to make reso's or try arriving early or later in the evening.

Love love! Each dish had an array of flavours layered in each bite. We had the pizza and seafood casserole. Both were way above our expectations! The service was great and friendly. Only downside was the very very very long wait between our appetizer and meal. Almost so long we just wanted to take it to go. I’d advise putting aside quite a bit of time if you plan on eating here. After saying that the restaurant is decorated in style and embodies the Turkish ambience. Add this place to your list! You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent food and service! I went here for the first time for my mother's birthday. All the dishes were excellent, and some unique dishes I've never had at a Mediterranean restaurant. Great veggie options. My portabello and other grilled veggies we're perfectly cooked, not too firm, not too soft. Spicing on everything was flavourful but not overpowering. The omnivores in our party said their lamb and seafood was delicious too. The pita was so soft and fresh; you can see a chef cooking them fresh non-stop! The grilled apricots were a tasty new treat, and standbys like the grape leaves were better than most. The house made baklava was amazing, sweet but not syrupy, and you can really taste the pistachios. The rice pudding was also excellent, and unlike any other rice pudding I've ever had with its crust of carmelized sugar. Service was much better than I find at most restaurants in town. Our server was always there to check on us and I never had to fill my own wine glass. She was great answering questions and making suggestions too. I highly recommend Sofra.

I'm confident the food would have been good if we hadn't sat for an hour and fourty minutes before finally leaving without anyone taking our food order. She said she was side tracked and she apologized, but I can't think of an excuse for almost two hours of zero service. Watching everyone who arrived after you, get their food while you still haven't been asked what you want makes for a pretty sour experience.

A must-eat restaurant for anyone in the Edmonton region. We've been to Sofra on several different occasions and you really can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu! It has a nice cozy ambiance and the owners are very friendly. During one of our visits, we saw the owner hand-making each individual pita bread himself for over an hour! It's no wonder it's hard to get a table without a reservation.

Very beautiful restaurant, interesting layout and table design. We were seated in the upper area and it had a great view of the whole space. The waitress was friendly and came to check on us regularly. Food was quite pricey, but the portions were amazingly big and the quality made it worth it. I split the sultan sofrasi with a friend and you get everything you'd need or want (appetizers, main course with variety of meats, sides, and dessert). We ordered the apple tea as well which was delicious. Definitely a great choice if you're looking for a fancy night out.

#1 spot for lamb amongst all the other great dishes. I've been coming here for years. I really appreciate the consistency. The lamb tenderloin is mindblowing... Always a perfect cook. GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME? Despite many empty tables, we waited a very long time for our food. When it was finally served, we were starving (might have enjoyed the food more because of this). However, the taste made to perfection was undeniable and our palettes were dancing to the touch. Many spices and herbs have been used and when combined with the in-house grilling method, the flavorful juiciness and tenderness of the meat just convinced us it was worth the wait. Most meat dishes come with a side of bulgar wheat and balsamic salad; they are large portion! Recommended dish: duck / goat / beef *TIP BEFORE ENTERING! : try calling to order before going; we haven’t tried but it will definitely save a lot of waiting time if can be done

After the reviews and comments, I felt confident that we were in for a good night of Turkish fair. The pita and hummus offered a good sharing portion and the pita was thin and crispy with sesame seeds. The Hummus was well seasoned and tasty. The shrimp appetizer was simply, 4 prawns on a sliver of tomato-charred and well seasoned, but very small. I ordered the spinach salad. It was more or less a bag of spinach salad, with maybe a table spoon of nuts in it and the garliciest dressing I have ever eaten. It is the day after, and I can still taste the garlic on my breath. The Salad, Hummus and pita appetizer, one glass on red wine, some olives, and four pieces of shrimp came close to about $75.00.I have eaten better meals for a quarter of the price-sadly. While the service was pleasant, I do not plan to return.

What a great little place!! A super find by someone in our party. This was one of the best places I've been too. Higher end pricing, but the portions are really big...you get a lot to eat!!!!! Super tasty no matter what you have. Great experience in the dinning area we had to ourselves on an upper level...the place was packed, but you wouldn't know it. I am turkish from Tabriz and had been through a life and death situation, In the hospital thanks to the mismanagement of hospital and their performance. During my delirium I received tremendous help from two of my young member of family who are canadian. As a token of appreciation I invited them to have an experience with our renowned Turkish hospitality. I called the restaurant talked to Mr Yüksel the manger to arrange this, since I cannot be present,This man outright replied that he cannot help me at all,in reply to my question as to what kind of turkish he was. The reply was "THE KIND WHO CANNOT HELP YOU." This coming from a host was unbelievable,furthermore he cut me off. I left message to inquire the method of payment and other information and never received a call back. I would not put foot in this establishment ever. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. It’s a bit pricey I’d say for a restaurant of such kind, however you won’t be disappointed with the quality of food you get! The main dishes come in generous portions, so you won’t leave hungry. Our steak and rack of lamb were both cooked to our liking. The tea, however was server rather cold and light, which is definitely not the traditional Turkish way:( Still, overall very good experience!

Amazing food and a truly authentic Turkish experience right here in Edmonton! Everything from the appetizers to the dessert were cooked to perfection. The hummus was the best I've ever tasted and the lamb casserole was so full of flavor and tender chunks of lamb. You also absolutely must have the Turkish coffee here - I've had it in Turkey before and it's so rare that a restaurant in Edmonton can make coffee taste the way it does in another country (I'm told it has to do with our water), but Sofra has perfected the rich creamy taste of Turkish coffee served in the most gorgeous Turkish cups. Absolutely worth a visit and I'll be returning all the time!

This place was amazing! The food is absolutely incredible! I had the adana kebab, my wife had the Portobello mushroom with feta, our friend tried the Sultan's dish (basically a sampler of everything for 2), and our other friend had the zucchini? I don't quite remember. Anyway, everything was delicious and very well-made! The presentation was beautiful and the restaurant itself was very inviting. The dishes were very fairly priced (ranging from $18-40/dish) and the portions are satisfyingly generous. You can't go wrong with this place!

First let me say the food is delicious. The problem is their lack of attention to public health recommendations in dealing with covid. The entrance way is small and there is one small bottle of hand cleanser on a table. I went in to pick up my take out order wearing a mask. The maître de was not wearing one. While there 6 other people crowded in to the entrance, none wearing masks or attempting social distancing. There should be someone outside lining people up to come in small bubble groups and when they are seated, the next small group could come in. I was appalled at the egocentric ignorance of the guests crowding in and disappointed the the Sofra staff was making no attempt to follow guidelines.

Second time visiting, and it was as delicious as the first. I'm not sure if reservations are required, but I would recommend making them as we saw people being turned away at the door if they didn't. The dip spread appetizer is so good with fresh made pita. Duck breast and lamb were cooked as ordered and tasted amazing. Big wine, and drink selection. Dessert menu available. Nice place to sit down and relax, not a fast paced eat and run type place. Would recommend if you are willing to spend a little more for quality.

First time here. Great ambiance, tastefully decorated, and the food exceeded my expectations. Staff super helpful and knowledgeable. Recommend the appetizer platter and the sultans table ..500% eat there again ! Delicious from start to finish.. ps don't skip the baklava!!

Adana kebap was actually not a Adana kebap but kofte. The meat in Pasha kebap was very juicy, tender and delicious. We loved it!!! Kiymali pide was delicious and the size of the portion was quite large enough for two people. We love the sucuk and humus combined appetizer however it should be served with some pita bread. While we were waiting for the pita bread that we paid extra $6, sucuk got cold and we couldn't enjoy it much. There should be an option for a smaller size of pita as well since it was quite much for the appetizer portion and for two people. We love that the actual food names were in Turkish in the menu and the food was served exactly as it is described in the menu. We also love that the main courses are being served with bulgur instead rice. Much healthier and yummy !!! Our waitress was kind enough to change our table facing the washroom sign and too small for the meal that was ordered even though the owner/chef refused to give us another table at the beginning. There was no enough room on our first table to have a comfortable meal. Basically they do not accept walk in customer, if you are going to book a table in this restaurant, it is better to mention them which table you would like to have.If you are an expert and Adana kebap lover, order something else to be on safe side and not being dissapointed. I recommend you to deal with the stuff not with the owner/chef; you would definitely regret and even got a feeling that you might be discriminated either you are Turkish or not white. I can recommend this restaurant only for white people with no kids as this restaurant do not accept children younger than 12 years old.

Outstanding food. Can be on the pricier side of restaurants, but you pay for the quality. The fresh made pita bread is excellent. Only downside is when you order the 3 dips for $27, you certainly don't get enough pita to get through it. It almost forces you to purchase extra pita, and that was disappointing as the flavours in the dips, my spiced meat kebab and the lamb were all fantastic.

Had reservations for my brothers birthday but little did we know, kids aren’t allowed and the owner was being very rude and unprofessional about it. I had my baby so he pretty much kicked us out. Apparently nobody under 18 is allowed downstairs and nobody under 12 is allowed upstairs which is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I had high hopes for this place based off the reviews but I wouldn’t dine here even if they payed me.

Fantastic food! This place came highly recommended and it lived up to the hype. The restaurant itself was a cute location with a good atmosphere that was both cozy and lively. Sarah was our server and she was great. The lamb and tiger prawn plate was absolutely delicious, as were the chicken kebabs. The portions are very hearty and will definitely fill you up. Highly recommend Sofra!

Overall I'm impressed all around. I must add I fully support the now lids policy. Thank you. When I pay the better part of $100 for a enjoyable dinner for 2 I don't want crying kids running around throwing things and completely ruining my experience. I have to put up with that at the mall, McDonald's and every other "family" restaurant. At least there I only pay $10 for the food and have no expectations for the experience. When I pay good money for a good night out I appreciate management protecting this environment for me. I'm not saying your kids are misbehaving brats but I know they're out there. Just visit any McDonald's, chuck e cheese, or the like and you will see. Besides your kids will have a better time at chuck e cheese take them there and come here on a night when you have a babysitter. Thanks.

This is by far the most rude owner/manager i have ever seen and talked to in my life. I made a reservation over the phone for me, my wife and daughter. I was not informed kids are not allowed until I paid 16.80 for parking across the street. Their Facebook page does not state no kids allowed. I asked him to cover the parking and he refused. So i drove for half an hour and paid parking for nothing and he didn’t even say sorry. Rude Unprofessional and misleading

My girlfriend and I came to Sofra to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and enjoy a meal together because she was born and raised in Turkey and I now take an interest in Turkish cuisine. Sofra was hands down the best dining experience I have had. We came on the reopening day after the holidays and it was impressive that they were so fast and on the ball. We decided on the Sultan's Sofrasi and it was a good decision. They have the most amazing pita bread and hummus I've ever tried, but that was just the beginning! I've been to a number of higher end restaurants and I must note that Sofra truly understands the finesse of cooking meats. The Meatballs, Ahi Tuna, Lamb and Chicken were so well prepared I couldn't shut up about how good everything was. Trevor was our waiter and he was extremely polite and professional, he wasn't clingy like most waiters and waitresses and he treats everyone with the utmost respect. All in all it was a phenomenal experience and we will certainly be back here again and again !

I had driven by this place several times and never really thought much about it. Entering the place it had a great vibe and the smells set me off right away. We started off with the Yaprak Sarma appetizer which I highly recommend. This is a platter of stuffed vine leaves, tiger prawns, stuffed pastrami, stuffed mushrooms and flatbreads. we followed up with the lamb which was as good as I have had anywhere. Service was prompt and very friendly.Not rushed at all. Did not spend much time on the wine list as we spotted one of our favourites right away. Overall a great night out. Highly recommend this place

Small family owned restaurant that has a small and meticulously chosen menu which is absolutely delicious. The chef cooks every dish with care and the taste attests to that! The rack of lamb is my favorite, but they have an excellent vegetarian option with grilled zucchini, portablo mushroom and goat cheese. Definitely a great place to eat in downtown Edmonton.

I went for dinner with a friend and, although it has been about a year and a half since I have been to Sofra, as I no longer live in Edmonton, Sofra from my very first experience has been on of my favorite Edmonton restaurants. They did not disappoint. Dinner was fantastic, we shared the dinner for two. The food, as always was very fresh and flavourful, the service was friendly and professional and completely unhurried, which we appreciated very much as we spent three and a half hours having dinner. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone and I thank the lovely people of Sofra for providing such a lovely dining experience.

October 2018 - Sad experience, I guess they've decided to mail it in. I remembered going to Sofra years ago and was very happy with the meal...my how things have changed! Ordered 2 appetizers (to start) which were served over 30 min apart. We decided to not go for any mains due to the sad quality and no heads up on the delay with the first two dishes: Our first dish was 8-10 reconstituted dried apricots that were stuffed with something resembling Philadelphia cream cheese served over top of what appeared to be oily garlicly frozen spinach. After over a half hour wait, out came the Turkish appetizer platter which included (separately) mushrooms, pastrami, and some grape leaves rolled and stuffed with same sad cheese...come on you guys! The doozie included a personal size pizza flatbread sliced in 4 pieces and cost us $27 - which I would say was rather offensive overall for such a small, salty, oily, dish. Anyways, I wish I could say the crew of at least 4 were "overwhelmed" but the friday dinner rush had long passed (later in the evening) and the restaurant had a number of empty tables. Pathetic. I hope Sofra really steps things up because after my last experience I'd rather get my Mediterranean fix from the ready-to-eat counter at Save on Foods.

Went on a double date last night and had a great time. The food was fantastic and flavourful. We ordered the mixed platter for 2 and got try a variety of savoury meats with sides. The dips, hummus, and pita were delicious. They don't allow kids under the age of 10 so no screaming babies :)

However I am vegetarian and the veggie sandwich was very dry and kind of gross as it only had giant roasted peppers, onion and zucchini. I would suggest letting someone make their own or just having a more classic.. Best quality food I have had in Fort McMurray.nice fresh food good prices and excellent service, go early to get a table or take out is available.
