The food is definitely comfort food. Amazing hashbrowns
Such a great joint to go to! Brunch is stunning, local craft beer, and a nice comfy vibe.
True to its name, I only saw ONE blue plate the entire time I was there! The food we got was real good (green onion cake, cornbread, grilled cheese) although a little greasy. Looking back at what we ordered, the grease was no more than could be expected. Price was a little high for my tastes too, but it is a trendy place and I'm broke A.F. Actually just the beer was overpriced. The food was reasonable. Would return once I have a real job again.
Decent food at a fair price in a relaxed funky atmosphere
Breakfast here is consistently excellent. Service is really good, and I enjoy the atmosphere.
Service was terrible, our waters werent filled once during our whole dinner. We waited for our food for 40 mins even though it wasnt busy at the restaurant. The salmon and risotto that I ordered was undercooked and when I asked the waiter about it, there was really no acknowledgement or apology or asking whether they could get me anything. My partner ordered the gnocchi for $17 and it came with 12 small gnocchi pieces, 3 thin slices of carrots, 1 tiny piece of califlower, and 2 small slices of some other vegetable. The waiter shunned us the rest of the night. Very dissapointing...
What a wonderful charming place. The staff was attentive and very informative on what was on the menu. Clean and bright atmosphere. Being a retired chef it was a pleasure.
Lovely atmosphere. Food is always fantastic. The decor is eclectic and fun, and somehow pulls the whole space together. Definitely a local favorite.
Been here twice now and both were great experiences. One of my new favorite brunch places. Great food, and nice staff
Sadly, was quite dissapointed with the lunch experience at the new location. The pesto veg panini was not good at all, very dry, and the overall atmosphere was very poor. Maybe this place is better for lunch.
Great food
Overall good, not great
Nice atmosphere and the live jazz was great. The food was so-so. The spaghetti pomodoro was a little bland, though the added meatballs were quite good. Food was reasonably priced but drinks were a bit on the expensive side.
Love the blue plate diner. I was a regular once upon a time when i lived downtown, but now that i love father away i rarely visit. Went for my sister's birthday tonight and had a wonderful meal. The wait staff were great with my little girl. Highly recommend.
Still a wonderful restaurant with great food. They do have a limited seating amount but it is well worth the visit. You can also order your food for pick up. Keep supporting this wonderful local business.
Great service and loved the vegan options! Will be coming here again.
You should know that on Sundays lunch is not served until 2pm, not sure about other days; did not mention this on the site so we were fairly disappointed. Food portion was fairly sizable, but also quite plain.
Dinners are great, although I've never been impressed with their breakfast. The breakfast potatoes were not appetizing and everything was under seasoned, hopefully they have improved the breakfast. Dinner is fantastic though - healthy and fresh. Love the sweet potato fries, burgers and chicken. Have eaten here many times for dinner.
Visited the new place tonight. Although we appreciated the brightness and modern look, it lacked the coziness of the original. The food was sub par. Salmon was very, very dry and the risotto was bland, could have used something to kick it up. My lamb Sheppard pie, was serviced so hot it burnt my mouth. It was obviously microwaved. The server should have provided a warning. Although it was tasty. Value for the price was not in line. The service i must say must was very good and attentive. Although it was only 5:30. It wasn’t an experience that would have us returning again. I hope the owners read these posts. It always makes me wonder why they don’t taste what’s coming out of their kitchen?
Great location for the restaurant. I think the menu needs a bit more to it. I found my meal bland and just warm. Probably will not go back . Great service though.
Great spins on diner eats. Great decor and excellent, friendly staff. Good vegetarian options for mains and desserts. Location doesn't get any more central. Kids menu with yummy choices for kids.
One of the worst servers I've EVER had. When we asked for fired egg whites we were told they were to busy to do so... At a breakfast restaurant. I asked for the manger and she fixed it. But the server had nothing but attatuide and even said that we should spend a day in the kitchen so we understand. Both my friend and I are or were servers. Food was ok but overshadowed with our experience. I told the manager on my way out all she had to say was sorry.... Probably won't ever go back.
Great service, fantastic eggs bending with smoked salmon!
The guy who served us (I wished I remembered his name) was amazing, super friendly and would continue the conversation through out the time of us being there. Food was great. Only thing that kinda sucked was that we had to pay for parking, but i kinda figured it would be considering the location.
Good food, good service. Could use a few more options on Sunday lunch menu.
Unfortunately this was not a great experience for us. The food was horrible bordering on gross. The restaurant was empty which should have been a clue to us. Our server was very pleasant which is why I gave it a 2 star.
Blue plate has been one of my favorite places to eat downtown in the last 10 years. Great vibrant staff thats always friendly. Food has typically been fantastic and location is very central. Parking however is usually the only challenge. I jave not been there for some time but my last meal there was a very positive experience.
The owner came behind the server, whistled and did a "wrap it up" motion with his hand while she was filling my coffee and listening to me complain about my laptop. She was lovely but I can't say I agree with the management style. Eggs benny was okay.
A great spot for Sunday brunch. Awesome atmosphere with eclectic coffee cups!
Great food. Nice decor, would suggest the lamb Shepard's pie which is nice. Service was good and very thoughtful. I would give this place 5 stars but I was annoyed because the place could be a bit cleaner.
Had lunch here and well.. it was just ok. I was expecting more but while nothing was bad, really nothing was that good either. My waitress was good, to her credit she tried very hard.
Today, August 18 2014, I tried to have lunch at the Blue Plate. My order was the steak sandwich done medium - for $18. When the steak arrived, with two small pieces of nondescript bread and a tiny uninspiring salad, I was immediately disappointed that the steak was so small - about as wide and not much longer than two of my fingers. Still, I was prepared to pay $18 for a fine piece of meat cooked to perfection. My first cut into the steak was difficult to make but I persevered and took a bite. Nothing to write home about and a bit chewy. I noticed that the meat was only just warm and that the onions on top were cold. The second cut was even more difficult to make and I could see shiny white sinew as the knife slowly made its way through the still wobbly mini-steak. Beyond the sinew I saw completely raw meat. That is when the Blue Plate and I parted ways forever. My best guess is that the meat could have been cooked from frozen - either that or the cook does not have a clue. This is now my benchmark worst restaurant experience.
Food was good. The pancakes were very filling. It's a little pricey for breakfast.
Terrific food … mmmnnnnmmnnm Reasonable prices Exceptional service and personable folks … Rima and John who operate the business are such fine people with great energy.
This is my go to spot for dates, delicious food with a very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Their new patio is nice for a cold beer on hot summer days. Would suggest this place to anyone looking to have a beer with a friend or a nice dinner with their partner.
This is a nice, trendy and cosy place with a good menu and I hear all the food is delicious. There are a few options for vegans and for gf folk. Definitely worth the effort. Parking can be tricky if it's a busy day but you may find street parking along the restaurant.
Food was decent, had the cornmeal appetizer and fresh Salmon. Cornmeal would of been better if I could of added syrup and the fish was just ok, nothing to write home about. Waitress was friendly, did a good job recommending what to order. We didn't have to wait long for drinks or food which was good. Place was very loud so it was hard to carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. All and all a good time and I would return.
Cost seemed good for the drinks that I had . Burger tasted great, good thick fries, and the Mac and cheese tastes great. Very creamy. The food is 5/5 but the service was slow on exit .. Had a burger that treated great, but the menu nickel and dimed for things like cheese, bacon, mushrooms, etc. that should have been on burger.
The food was ok and the service was good. The atmosphere is trendy but it feel cheap
Good food, nice staff though quality did drop a bit with a large group
Gonzo breakfast: under cooked sausage, plain eggs and no options for toast. Breakfast burrito: decent but nothing special. For a 50$ breakfast (with tip) it wasn't worth it. The service wasn't great either, the staff disregarded our concerns. I ordered guacamole for an extra 3$ and took half my burrito to go, they didn't put it in the box! Very annoying. The BPD potatoes are just mini potatoes that look like they've been fried, not great either and no other option to change out the sides was given. We won't be going back.
Great food, friendly staff and a patio. No reservations for brunch or the patio, but, if you're early enough to get one, try a cinnamon bun, they're fantastic!
I was thoroughly impressed by this place! It was bustling at 11:30am on this long weekend Saturday morning, but the service was not lacking! I am a vegan but my husband and friends are not, and it was wonderful to go to a place where I could get a completely vegan meal but there were still options for everyone else as well. Portion sizes are great! Oh, and their cinnamon buns are DELICIOUS!
Cozy and unique feel. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is AMAZING!
Always cozy and the food is delicious! Our server was very patient as my friend and I wanted to chat.. she did not rush us! I have nut allergies and our server was very helpful directing me through the menu! My favourite green onion cakes in the city!
How have I never eaten here before? From the decor to the food this place is a fantastic gem. There are not many places you can order Korma and a beef burger and have both dishes be spectacular.
One of my favorite brunch places. Great food without being pretentious
Great breakfast spot, delicious coffee. Food tasted well, was all well cooked and nice plating. Service was a little slow to begin with but improved right away. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere.
Such a cute environment with amazing food ????????
OMG....I'm visiting from Calgary. Please tell me this is not the same restaurant/owners as it was when it existed downtown on 104? By far the most pretentious experience of my life! And I'm from Calgary!
Great brunch enjoyed by all. Definitely get the cinnamon bun to start. The cherizo bowl I had was filled to the top of my take out container. Really tasty! Definitely a go to place for take out brunch. Great job John and staff.
I always enjoy the food I order here. Great atmosphere, and the staff are always friendly. I recommend trying this place out if you haven't yet.
The food was really good. I hate brussel sprouts and I had thoughts of asking them to not bring them out with my steak but I didn't.... they were actually enjoyable. My girlfriend loved them. As for the steak it was cooked perfectly to my request and the spices added a wonderful flavor. The service was efficient and welcoming. Coffee was really good and they have several popular options. The only downside of the place is the location. Parking is only free after 5 pm, otherwise it's three dollars per hour. Underground parking is available for the first fifteen vehicles. You walk up to the first floor and down the hallway and outside you go to go back inside the entrance to the restaurant. When you leave there is a set of doors that lead to the hallway so you can go to the parking without going outside.
Food was good, staff was nice. Only comment is that after the cheque was delivered the service stopped, I'm not saying I wanted my coffee topped up or water or anything else, I just wanted to pay my bill.
I had the southwest breakfast bowl and it was pretty bad. It tasted like canned chilli poured over boiled potatoes. My partner had the eggs Benny and it was good though. Definitely not worth the price - I think this place is more of a cute “aesthetic” place to go vs a good spot for eats.
Amazing food, very knowledgeable with Celiac Disease. They have a separate fryer for fries etc.
They have moved recently from 104st downtown to a very convenient spot at 124st and 104 ave. Free parking is available underground in the evening and weekends. The food as usual is excellent and our server, possibly the owner, is very professional. I did mention that I thought the music was a bit loud and wasn't sure if it was right for the demographic of the lunch crowd. She thanked me for my comments and very politely offered to turn it down a bit and changed the playlist. Very much appreciated. You can't go wrong with a great place like Blue Plate Diner.
We had the Bacon cheddar beef burger, which had all the makings of that one burger you had as a kid that turned you onto burgers forever....and the Bison burger with crispy fried onions, and omg, that was amazing. All the food was very reasonably priced, and delicious....we will be back for sure. Great date diner.
Nice place & people, good food
When you enter the Blue Diner it's like a cozy nook. It has warm colours and soft lighting. Their music playlist is refreshing and absolutely relaxing. The service was phenomenal. Although I arrived at 8pm and there was delay in the kitchen with my meal. My server, Sharna, was transparent and explained the situation and bought my dessert for me! I also appreciated her attentiveness! I honestly wouldn't have mind paying for it just because I had such a positive dining experience. I will definitely try this place again the next time I am back in Edmonton for work! Try the Salmon it was great! Thank you to David at the Holiday in for the suggestion :)
Went for dinner before an event at expo. The food was really good but the service was definitely lacking. At one point I’m pretty sure it was just my table in the restaurant and our server was not attentive. Would go back but only if service improves. EDIT: I can't reply to the comment so I'll just add it here. I was at your restaurant this past Sunday, July 18th 2021. Not sure why the event at expo is needed but it was the Van Gogh Exhibition.
Service was very slow, but I can understand I went at the beginning of the lunch rush. However, our server was lackluster at best, seemed like she hated her job. When the food did come I got the eggs Benedukt and I was very excited to try it, only to be severely disappointed. My duck tasted suspiciously close to fish, the sauce was minimal- but their potatoes were very good! The only reason I didn't return the eggs benny was because my boyfriend gets very embarrassed about those things, so I didn't say anything. My boyfriend got their back bacon Benny and his bacon also tasted off, so he didn't end up even eating it. Overall pretty disappointed, would not go back to this location.
Good 'high brow' mix of down home and greasy spoon meals. An Edmonton standard.
Friendly staff, eclectic decor and wonderful music are the first thing you will notice when you enter the Blue Plate Diner but all that will fall away when you sample their menu selection. As a tourist I'd never heard of a Green Onion Cake but after having this local favourite I could see why. The duck wings were delicious on Friday and the Eggs Beneduck the next morning were even better. You will be my go to desrination next time I'm in your friendly town. Ian Clarke Toronto, Ontario
Went with my mum on a weekday afternoon. It was initially a bit loud as the restaurant was quite busy with the lunch crowd. However, we were quickly seated and as people filtered out the noise level dropped and it became easier to hold a conversation. The food was very flavourful and the Mac and Cheese delicious as always. Highly recommend!
Food is pretty average. Nice service and interesting hipster atmosphere.
The new location off 124 street is fantastic! Food and service are both great in a upscale classic diner way and the owners clearly pour their heart and souls into this place. Excited to have BPD join the 124th street community.
Had early lunch here yesterday. Was great. Kind of like a diner, but is kind of not. Lot of great choices. Left totally stuffed (again) The burger was totally delicious.
Always heard great things about this place and really wanted to love it. Tried twice - the place itself is rad and quirky but the food and service just didn't live up to the hype.
Came here for breakfast and ordered a classic breakfast. The Diner’s normally delicious breakfast potatoes, were dehydrated beyond being edible and had no seasoning whatsoever. I’ve had many amazing meals at the previous location, but to me, the price point didn’t reflect the quality of food. Sorry guys. :(
Absolutely fantastic meal. Food was top notch. Service was excellent. The location is great.
My 1st visit and I wasn't disappointed! Great food & excellent service!! I shall return
Charming, with a unique variety of lighting and colours. It has anot older American feel to it. The service is good, as well as the food.
Blue Plate is great for breakfast/brunch, but a bit on the $$$ side. I love their eggs benedict, very delicious!
Excellent meal. Unique casual decor. Food was fantastic. Place was packed. It did get a little noisy but it's a restaurant. Love the vibe of it. I had the vege shepherds pie.
Great staff, great owners, great food... just great. Also very hip joint!
Been here twice now. The first time was great, good food, fantastic service, great atmosphere. The second time was the complete opposite. My boyfriend asked about a burger and was met with and answer of "I couldn't tell you", and the waiter walked away. Not an offer of "customers say it's...", or "let me ask the chef". Just walked away. I ordered the Mac and Cheese which was half cold, half burning hot. Obviously been microwaved. I would have addressed this concern had the waiter come over even once after the food had been delivered. Empty drinks all night, not even a "how is the food". And to top it all off, I got food poisoning. Very disappointing from a restaurant I've heard so much about from the vegetarian community, and had a pleasant experience earlier in the year.
Great service, always a wonderful experience. I enjoy that the plates and coffee cups never match. Unique and different lamps on each table create a personalized environment every time. Good price, good home cooked food. Enjoyed the vegetarian and vegan options.
Great menu. And atmosphere is good
We were very disappointed with our experience at Blue Plate Diner. We booked a table for 5 at 7:30 PM on a Thursday night. Our group trickled in a little slowly, but we were all there by 8. Very soon after our arrival, we started feeling …
Perfect intimate dining gem on 124 street. Excellent meals at all times of day. I can't speak highly enough about this restaurant. I used to go there when it was on 104 street for tapas and wine and now we hit it up for breakfast and occasionally dinner on 124 street. The staff and owner are professional and welcoming. The service is casual but precise, and the food is consistently high quality. Lots of locally sourced product in the meals and they are delicious. You can taste the chef's skill in the meals. So good. Check it out. New location, amazing food.
Service is hit or miss. Have had great experiences, and other times my table has been completely neglected and made me want to walk out. Best time to go is for brunch, or after their lunch rush. Don't go if you're in a hurry.
Food here is excellent and so is service! Unfortunately parking and construction was a pain but I'm from small city so just not used to it. DEFINITELY worth the brunch trip though:)
I love the Blue Plate Diner. The food is great and the staff is friendly. Every time.
Great service and a nice atmosphere. The food is delicious and well priced.
Breakfast here on a Tuesday morning at 8 am was dead quiet, but the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel to it. Good French toast & the Gonzo is more than sufficient for big eaters.
I've had many great meals at this restaurant, and is in an ideal place on 104th for you to go shop at the farmer's market. My only complaint is that they need more options for those of us with dietary restrictions. I have a hard time finding food that is gluten and dairy free on their menu , otherwise it's a great trendy place to meet and eat and drink.
Best meatloaf sandwich ever! Owner served us and was a great guy! We went at 1pm and was very quiet which was nice.
Good tasting food but a little pricey.
It's a cute place to go for lunch downtown and the staff are really friendly. Taking off a star because I've been encountering a lot of technical issues with them lately. Last time I ordered online and received an email confirmation, but they never received my order so I had to reorder my meal and wait around while they made it. Additionally, I've ordered the breakfast sandwich on a few occasions and every time it has left a lot to be desired (the hash browns could use some work and the sausage patty is super dry). Otherwise, I've been pleased with the service there and the other entrées have been delightful. It has a very eclectic but cozy atmosphere and they have a pretty nifty patio.
Their hollandaise sauce is excellent!
Only thing o felt comfortable eating was a salad, not alot of verily for celiac's. I was disappointed. I also found it expensive $16. For a salad ????.
Great food, great atmosphere! Took my family here and they all enjoyed their meals.
Great food, friendly staff.
Other
Delicious food and really great service! Can't wait to go back.
Food looked amazing. Was very disappointed. Had the breakfast enchilada. Very very bland. Had to add hot sauce and even then it was still meh. Paid the extra 3 dollars for guacamole. It was a tablespoon of guacamole. Such a rip off. Will not go back.
Great little place meet with a larger group of friends and had wonderful eggs benny's great service great atmosphere decent value. I do not appreciate them automatically adding 18 percent for a gratuity I always feel that should be at my discretion for that reason I will not be going back.
The atmosphere in this restaurant is quite excellent. The decor and feel are quite nice. The food was mediocre. Fine for a one time thing, but not good enough to deal with downtown parking and driving again.
Good brunch spot. Can recommend the eggs beneduck--. Yes, it has duck confirm. Cornbread with maple syrup was also a hit.
Got the chorizo breakfast bowl. It was really good, big fan of their potatoes.
Enjoyed their breakfast burrito but found the sausage a bit too salty. As always, great service and atmosphere!
Good vegan options and really good vibe.
Service was excellent, seating was done well and promptly. Music was a little loud. The meatloaf sandwich on the lunch menu is to die for.
Right across from work we go often. Fresh and unique food good portions and a great atmosphere
Always enjoy whatever I order. Unique place. Never had a bad experience.
Superb breakfast. Had the regular Eggs Benny and Cappuccino. A bit too much foam for my liking on the Capp but still good. :) Service was great as well. The inside decor is definitely more interesting than outside. These are not complaints, just observations. Will definitely go back!
I rememeber this place being better! The menu hasn't changed in a while but the gf options are still yummy. Burgers are tasty but the fries were so-so. Mac and Cheese is the top seller but it was bland. The atmosphere is very cool and quirky but the wait staff rushed away every time she came to our table. I have been here many times over 4 years and I have seen a decline. Not sure what it is but the Blue Plate Diner used to be at the top of my list.
We were very pleased with both the service and the quality of the food. Lots of seating here.
I was expecting more. The menu looked amazing and different, but the food was just ok. The cinnamon bun was dense.
Wonderful staff, amazing food
Service was quick and great. Taking the rules regarding covid seriously. Food was delicious, we had the brunch special (pork quiche) and eggs Beneduckt. Both were great but I stole my husbands Quiche. The cornbread was great too.
Been for lunch lots, first time for breakfast. Did not disappoint. Great eatery on 104.
Quaint little restaurant. Food is amazing, I've been for breakfast and supper. Had great service the first time, second visit the waitress seemed upset about something, but still took very good care of our table. Little to no parking around the building, but around a block away from Bay Enterprise Square Station on 104th.
I have dined at the Blue Place a few times and recommended it to others. The menu is interesting and the portions are usually just right. This last time I had their salmon which was a bit on the dry side but I tasted everyone else dishes (at my table) and they were all great. The kids had the Mac n Cheese and loved it. Be forwarded though that this is an old brick building with character. However that same character means the sound of everybody bounces off the walls and makes for a rather noisy place. It is actually hard to have a good conversation at times. I will go back to the Blue Plate as It is a trusted place to eat, with lots of variety and it is located on the most interesting street in downtown Edmonton. All that and it really isn't very expensive.
I came here with a friend for brunch one Saturday morning and it was quite busy. Therefore, I suggest going during a time where there's less traffic. I ordered the BPD Benny's ($16.00). It came with bacon and two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin with Hollandaise sauce, side of potatoes, and fruit slices. Overall, the meal was very filling. Additionally, the servers were very attentive and offered to fill my glass of water every time they walked by, which was pleasant. I will definitely be back.
I have several food allergies that makes eating out quite difficult. Blue Plate Diner was recommended as a restaurant that would be accommodating. This was certainly true in my experience! The restaurant has a dedicated gluten-free fryer, so I was intrigued by the potential for a burger and fries (I'm usually limited to salads when I eat out). The server patiently and kindly answered my questions about other ingredients I am allergic to and alternative options. Confirming some of the details turned out to be trickier than anticipated, so she had the manager (head chef?) come over to talk to me directly. He sat down right beside me to work through some options, and was open to a substitution. I appreciated his empathic demeanour and the restaurant's flexibility. The meal was tasty, filling, and I experienced no averse reactions. (Side note, the salad I had considered as my second option also looked really good.) Definitely a restaurant I look forward to returning to!
Good food and good service. ????
The staff was awesome, really nice. The food was good too.
I was there for brunch, but i never got back. The food was good for sure, however, the kitchen was not on my cleaning standards. I work in a kitchen before and i know how busy it gets, but because i work in a kitchen before i know where to look. Maybe they clean it since 2012. definitively the food was a good experience and cheap.
I ordered breakfast and it was good...however, the portion size for the price is just not right. $9.00 for one egg, one slice of bacon, one slice of toast and some potatoes. $9.00!!! if everything were doubled, then It would be fair. Everyone at my office complains about portion size. Also, they don't even have to go jam... they scoop some into a container and don't even ask you what kind you want, leaving me to think they only have the one kind.
Food was awesome, gluten-free bread was really good. Cappuccino was tasty! Highly recommended.
Great place for breakfast, nice atmosphere and overall good service. Good variety of options on the breakfast menu and they also have some delicious Mimosa with different flavor options. Thet recently modified their cinnamon buns which was unfortunate. They used to have the hands down best cinnamon buns I've ever had to now being slightly above average at best. Overall great place and definitely recommend it.
Great atmosphere and food!
Haven't been here in years but went for lunch and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Beet veggie burger is amazing!
Love this place. Food always fantastic. The atmosphere is wonderful. Highly recommend for breakfast lunch brunch or dinner. I'd show off the plate of maple walnut french toast I got but it was too delicious.
Came here with my boyfriend. I liked the breakfast potatoes and the fact that they had both vegan/vegetarian and non-vegan options. That way the both of us were satisfied even with different needs. Server was super nice and helpful.
Not great. The coarseness of the bison duck confit burgers was too fine and didn't have the appropriate moisture , the shepherd's pie had zero sauce and anemic French fries. The smoked salmon rolls had no smoked flavor as they cooked it all out... The polenta was ok, minus much flavor of the goat cheese. Overall my party and I all left disappointed and over charged.
Good food and always changing menu. They do interesting takes on many classic comfort food dishes and it's fun to come repeatedly to experiment. I find the food is pretty consistent but the quality of service you receive varies greatly from trip to trip.
Great diner. Very hip, modern menu, decor and feel, belying the nondescript exterior. Parking is sparse.
I had a great meal at the Blue Plate Diner with a friend. The grill cheese was awesome. I loved the different taste that the jalapeño brought. The dill pickle soup was full flavours. I would have it again for sure. My friend had the tuna melt. She found that it tasted very canned and the portion size was small.
Went here with my girlfriend, ordered the brussels sprouts which were good. There were very few people in the restaurant, but took at least 40 minutes to get our food. Our waiter did not refill drinks once during the night. When we received our meals, my partners food tasted slightly undercooked and bland. When we informed our waiter, he told us that we were wrong, and After we said that it did not taste good at all, he took it away. Without any apology, or saying anything. The portions present in my meal were incredibly small. Our waiter did not speak to us for the rest of the night, dropped off the bill without anything being said, and actually sent another server to get payment from us. Hugely disappointing, worst service I’ve received from restaurant. And this isn’t someone being entitled, my partner works in the food industry as a waitress and understands the struggle, but this was truly a terrible experience. The waitress who received our payment, was very friendly and kind towards us.
Food was not very good. Service was mediocre. Atmosphere is nive and I like the local art work.
The food was very good, and we loved the decor. My parents had the same lamp going up in the 80's, and my grandparents had a similar table. Gave me lots of good memories , thank you!
Finally got back to enjoy this place. Interesting place, interesting food. And I mean interesting in the best way!
Amazing food. Try the veggie brunch bowl.
Small menu, great options. They Do not serve all day breakfast. Quaint little diner in a trendy area. Stop in after the farmers market for brunch or lunch, you won't be disappointed. Small patio area is great for afternoon refreshments
The blue plate diner is one of the restaurant gems of Edmonton. Such a unique space with local artwork orange ceilings and an original brick wall. Wonderful food and excellent craft beer selection. The servers are fantastic, especially Erin. Attentive, personable and very knowledgeable about the menu. What a delight!
I go for the vegan options. It's always reliably delicious. The vegan shepherds pie is tasty. I have also heard good things about the beet burger.
Cozy indie-esque atmosphere with great food menu items. Service was prompt and there are definitely unique items on the menu. The mac N cheese is superb with the Italian sausage and my partner had the bison and duck confit burger. Both items were delicious! Prices are slightly above average, but it's still a great place to go on a little date in the heart of downtown Edmonton.
Our 1st ever visit to Blue Plate Diner did not go so well???? To start off our appetizer came at the same time as our entrees. The Tandoori duck wings appetizer comes with naan bread which we had asked to be served on another plate, because i am celiac. When a server(not ours)brought it to our table she said the naan was gluten free, and it was on the same plate. When we asked our server to check into this she said the naan is definitely not gf. When I tasted my salmon dish(nightly special) that was served with a risotto and a smoked paprika creme fraiche, it was very spicy! I do enjoy a spicy dish once in a while, however i cook with smoked paprika and know that it is not as hot as cayenne(which this tasted like) When i mentioned it to the server she assured me that it is supposed to be spicy?! but offered to take it away and replate it without any sauce. Seriously, this tasted like cayenne. Maybe try letting patrons know when something is that hot and it is not indicated on the menu! The risotto was under cooked as well. The salmon and veg were ok. My husband's bison & duck confit burger was over cooked and dry. The blueberry mustard and garlic aioli were not noticeable. Although I will thank the server for discounting our bill, I don't think we will be returning.
Ordered off Skip, saw all the Great Reviews so thought I’d try out the Eggs Benny as it looked fantastic! To My Utter disappointment this is what showed up ???? Barely any Hollandaise Sauce, the eggs were over cooked and the potatoes fried …
Good coffee, great service.
Everything was great! The kitchen was fast and the food tasty. Our server was attentive and approachable. Will definitely be returning to try brunch!
A character restaurant that delivers a laid back atmosphere without disappointing in quality food and service. Good food, good beer, good atmosphere, great service, and a great experience all around.
Enjoyed Mother's Day dinner here. I'm ALWAYS impressed by the food at Blue Plate and last night was no different :) The slamon and risotto was so delicious and the beet chocolate cake unbelievably yummy!
Great place to grab lunch. Very tasty and filling lunch specials. Had the Chickpea Paneer and it was delicious. One of the best naans I've had to date. Also had the zucchini corn fritters and they were very delicious, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Will definitely recommend this place for lunch. I can't wait to be back for breakfast. If it's anything like their lunch, I know it'll great as well.
Great place for those with gluten free diets. The food is even better for those of us without them. Overall the place has a good menu and the staff is friendly.
Awesome food, great service, lovely coffee (that's locally roasted!) Parents brought me here with family for brunch back in November and it was an absolutely wonderful brunch! Ordered the duck confit eggs benedict (with regular sauce, it usually comes with jalapeno hollandaise), and it was quite the lovely meal. Oh right and I started with a cinnamon bun that was insanely fluffy and ever so delicious, with icing that while sweet, wasn't overpoweringly sweet like a lot of places tend to do. It was a nice sweetness that complimented the soft fluffy cinnamon bun perfectly. While my plate did unfortunately leave the kitchen with an eggshell on the one half (instead of the egg), when it was brought to the waiter's attention it was not only fixed, but they gave me a whole entire half a meal of food to replace it.. Now that's service and fixing a mistake to say the least! Coffee was also rather lovely, and it was definitely great that when asked what kind of coffee they had our waiter immediately asked if I was wondering about the roaster, origin of the coffee, and type of roast, to which I replied yes, and got a detailed reply of what kind of coffee they had, which is so wonderful! At so many places you tend to get a blank stare when you ask this question.
The breakfast was just alright. I had heard such good things about the food, and I left rather disappointed. The fresh lemonade was great though.
Came in for lunch today fairly excited, however, left rather underwhelmed. Service was fairly friendly and the environment quite cozy - 4 stars for ambience. Food - this is where it went downhill. I ordered a beef burger with a side of Mac and Cheese. The beef burger did not blow me away - it was quite overcooked to the centre and a bit dry. It was fairly generic, for the price - my expectations was higher. The Mac and Cheese was not good. The sauce was watery, not at all what bechamel is suppose to be. Additionally, where is the cheese? Other than a slight sprinkle of cheese on the top (not melted), there was nothing cheezy (no pun intended) about it. Also, the tomatoes don't help. Lastly - the onion cake at 7 dollars is an absolute rip-off.the cakes couldn't get smaller even if you tried. I would also like to mention this. We had a table of 9 individuals. One of my friend had ordered the paneer/chickpea/rice. After waiting for about 25 minutes during lunch hour, with the 8 of us served our food - she was told there isn't any rice and if she would accept a substitution. She had to wait, while the rest of had food in front of us. What makes it even worse is that she wasn't even offered a goodwill gesture for her unpleasant experience. This in my mind is unacceptable. I hope the above motivates the owners to change a few things. Until they do - I don't believe I will be returning.
Very trendy with delicious and healthy homemade food. Vegetarian options that are fab. Love the decor.
Been there many times for dinner, and always had very positive experience in the food and the service. Really like the mood set by the decor/art work - warm, cozy & causal atmosphere. Recommended!
Blue Plate Diner is a great Edmonton eatery that should continue to be supported during these tough COVID times. The hundreds of five star reviews speak for themselves. The food and service is top notch and this colorful diner is not to be missed. Give the weekend brunch a try - you won't regret it.
The food is good, service terrific and they had live music. Win win!
Great service, great food. Cute little place.
Really good food and a cozy atmosphere. The burger I had was amazing
Great service. Good food. Reasonable price.
My boyfriend and I decided to come here for a date night and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was relaxed but also fun and Indy. There is plenty of seating for big groups and gatherings while also having a personal and cozy feel if you grab a booth. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and inventive. The menu provided lots of options for any type of dietary restrictions and made you curious to try new things. Definitely a unique must see.
Love this diner, if I could go every morning I would.
My husband and I went here for a date night and had a fabulous meal. It feels like I am eating in my grandmother's kitchen. The food was absolutely delicious, served hot, service was attentive and timely. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the meals we had. We will most definitely be coming back in the future and will bring others with us!
Went for brunch the other day... It took me 4 years to finally go and i shouldn't have waited so long. The place will have to relocate as they tear down the building and I hope the kitsch, the staff, the atmosphere - which make this place a true staple of Edmonton - are preserved. All our food was great but MVP goes to blueberry pancakes with lemon curd creme anglaise. No pic sorry it was too good.
Genuinely curious if they changed cooks and/or recipes. The Mac & Cheese was not what it used to be, and their Caesar salad tasted like it was soaked in vinegar rather than a creamy dressing. The only upside to the meal was our bison burger and Brussel sprouts.
Great service, fantastic food. Quaint little restaurant with some very enjoyable comfort food (Lamb Shepherd's Pie, Meatloaf, etc) and a great atmosphere.
Excellent food, excellent service, can't say enough good things.
Main dishes were tasty. Salad was smothered in dressing. Should have know better and had it on the side. Not wow'd. Might consider coming back but only if its hot out. Room was cool. Almost all the patrons had their jackets on still at 9 pm.
I know two things: a good breakfast, and how to poison a Haitian. This place definitely succeeded in one of those.
Such a really great food, you can tell that everything was made from scratch, good wine selection, dessert are supreme!!! The attention was spectacular. The only thing I didn't like we're the restrooms, really old they look so so to me.
Egg bennie are top notch
Great tasting food, good menu/choices, good prices, nice atmosphere, friendly staff
wait for food was long but servers were very friendly. food was what you expect for the lower price. would visit again but not in a hurry. cute decor tho
Food is great, service is good. New location not as much of a vibe as the old one. Needs some more flair
Great flavor of food and great service.
No milkshakes. And over priced diner food for some reason. Good drink specials tho
I came to blue plate the other day and I'm not sure if it was the manager or a server but I felt very uncomfortable. He was intrusive by continually peering over our table and snapping. It ruined the atmosphere for me and my partner. The food was good but still my night was thrown off because of his pushy attitude.
I had brunch here and ordered the vegan BLT, it was really good. The food and service are really good. The waitresses were very nice and made sure the food was to our liking.
Very nice place. It has interesting interior and nice looking personnel. Breakfast was very good
Service was poor. Took a long time to get our order taken and no refills on coffee or water. Food is bland and not fresh. Many better places to eat.
Always amazing, homestyle food made from scratch. The Coffee and Bennies are amazing. Service is outstanding and it is a very relaxed, trendy atmosphere.
Very charming little restaurant located downtown. Food and service were both outstanding!
Really tasty food, nice staff, and a fun place!
Great atmosphere, delicious food (try the Meatloaf!) and the service was amazing- Andrew is the best!
Pretty good food.
One of my favourite hangout places by myself or with my friends. Breakfast is a must at their place as well as their main entrees are interesting and enjoyable. The staff is awesome and friendly. ✨????????????
Sadly paid wayyy to much for tuna. I was excited to see a small menu because generally that tells me that what's on the menu is the best of the best. A smaller menu also allows for higher quality & attention to detail... I ordered the tuna melt ... There was no crunch, nothing to enhance the flavour like a pickle or celery or anything really it was also under seasoned - needed salt and pepper. It would be beneficial to also explain the sandwich as open faced as I was surprised to get the bottom of a bun sliced in two. Maybe it was just a bad day for tuna but at this rate I'll just make it at home.
Great food and service, slightly high price point but very fun and quirky place.
Recently went to lunch with my partner. Overall, the service was quite slow, even for lunch rush. In addition, the food itself was sadly not a good value. I ordered the Pork Belly Sandwich with Fries, my partner the Bison and Duck Confit burger. Food took 40 minutes to come- I could understand if it was just due to lunch rush, but people seated after us received their food well before ours arrived. The pork belly sandwich came with a large side of mustard on the plate - It was not listed on the menu and I had asked the server if the meal came with anything not listed, which he assured me it didn't. I ended up scraping it off the plate with my napkin as he never came to check on us. The bread was very dry and the pea shoot pesto bland. Bison and Duck confit burger had the same issues, bland condiments (could not taste blueberry mustard or garlic aioli), dry bread, and very sparse toppings. Our server only came back to pick up my plate and ask if we wanted dessert and seemed put off/annoyed with my attempt to remove the mustard (to be fair, some was on the table as I only had one napkin-that's on me) - I mentioned that I had asked if it came with any extras for that very reason, and his response was to remark that "not everyone likes spicy mustard" - not the point at all. There were some positives - the fries were great and the people refilling water during lunch rush were efficient and friendly. However, we won't be returning.
This place is adorable and the food is delicious, perfect comfort food. The mac n cheese is famous and always a hit but try their different specials as well because they never disappoint.
Great food & staff, love the vegetarian options!
Excellent diner style food. Get a cinnamon bun while you're there. They're massive and look incredible.
Excellent service. Great food! Mojito wasn't the greatest, but sangria was really good.
Great food and great service always. I always look forward to going! ????
My boyfriend wanted a bison burger and I searched and found this gem! Hi burger was so delicious and juicy and cooked to perfection! The fries are so tasty. The shepherds pie came out nice and hot and the salad with crunchy cashews were so delicious! We enjoyed the meals so much that we ended up getting the beet cake. The size was perfect sharing size after a delicious meal and it was soo flavorful! The atmosphere was great and gave us a lot to talk about. We will be coming back in the near future for another great date night!
Had a delicious brunch. We got there right at opening on Sunday and we’re seated right away. The restaurant was full within the hour! We were served coffee right away and our food came fast! The Eggs Beneduckt was so good!
Delicious food and fantastic service. The cinnamon buns are the best you will taste anywhere!
Best burger I've had in months! Went there during Blue Plate Jazz Sessions, the accoustics were great. The pecan pie was sooooo good!
Staff is nice and i got lentil and nut loaf
Good service and food came out quickly. I had the tuna melt with BPD green salad. The tuna melt was very disappointing, the one I make at home is way better. I would not order this again. The menu description said there was celery in it, but I certainly didn't see or taste any. The salad was yummy though.
My first time at the new location (Ya don't get out much). Food was very good, is it the best cinnamon bun I had this weekend, no (high level all the way) but it was a more than passable brunch appetizer; the potatoes and eggs were top …
Breakfast is always great here - eggs Benny, pancakes, cinnamon bun...you can't go wrong with anything. Lots of substitutions available if you are vegan, vegetarian etc. Small plates options if you're not super hungry. It get REALLY LOUD in there when full, so maybe not the best place to go for a quiet conversation (unless you go after the brunch rush). Eclectic, mish-mash of furnishings...it's got character!
This may seem a bold declaration, but the Blue Plate Diner is the best breakfast joint in Edmonton. Great food, charming ambience, and first-rate cappuccino. I also love the neighbourhood. If you take a walk around and read the heritage placards, you quickly learn you're standing in a stretch of land that was critical to the turn-of-the-century economic fortunes of Edmonton. And the architecture comes alive when you understand some of the practicalities of the design, built to suit the needs of by-gone businesses in a pre-war era. Amazing stuff.
The food is great, and they are so personable. This was my favourite place to dine in, and for now I love getting their frozen groceries that set us up for BBQs!
If I could give 4.5 I would. Excellent service and the staff helped us find something that I could eat without allergens and were kind and patient. Food was amazing and well worth the trip. The only thing thing that saddened me was the food …
Our experience here was fantastic. The person serving our table was very personable and made the experience that much better. The food was also delicious. We will be returning again!
Nice place for relaxing weekend breakfast.
Restaurant wouldn't allow us to have a birthday cake at our table, but if we would have called ahead it would have been fine.
I was here for brunch. Great atmosphere, good food and great service! I look forward to trying out the dinner menu!
Blue plate is one of the best restaurants in Edmonton for brunch, lunch and dinner. Great vegetarian selection, also serving vegans and gluten free. We love it here! The service is always fantastic and the atmosphere is relaxed and funky. They have gorgeous artwork. Eat here!!
Wish I would have heard about this place sooner, a great place for a causal brunch. Only complaint is that the table we had was just low enough that everyone with me commented on how low it was. We'll definitely be back though :)
Enjoyed the new location. The food was fresh, the service friendly, and the atmosphere welcoming. We went in for breakfast and wished we didn’t live out of town otherwise we’d have been back for lunch. We’ll be back for sure next time!
Whenever I come back to Edmonton this is always on my list of places to eat. Admittedly I have not been to the new location but be assured that I will go next time I am in town.
Best chicken I've ever had. Great service. Lovely place.
This place can best be described as 'trendy' by the hipster crowd. There's a fine line between kitschy and trendy, and this is right on the line. The menu is at least interesting, with things like Mac and Cheese being home made. Overall, a decent small food joint.
They were out of the dish I initially wanted, so I ordered the mac and cheese and found the portion to be too small. It was however quite tasty.
The food is good and delicious. The service is a bit slow during lunch time. That won't matter much if you're going for dinner. Everything in the menu is worth trying. Try the ice tea.
Great food, location and atmosphere.. great specials ... Get place
had brunch here on a Sunday, waited about 2 minutes to be seated. The service is AMAZING and the eggs benny is even better. They have almond milk!! (Hallelujah) Can’t wait to come back here again.
Amazing brunch. Great service. Cozy, laid back environment.
Really good food, decent prices and our waiter was just the right balance of casual without being slack.
This was my first visit to the new location on Stony Plain Road. It is bright and cheerful and the food is just as good as the last location. The coffee was spot on. I had the breakfast enchiladas which was delicious. This is a great brunch or lunch spot.
Great food. Lovely service. Definitely loves up to the hype! We've been hearing great things for a very long time, and are very pleased ro doscover that everything we've heard is true
Kind and good staff ????hygiene is perfect ????
Nice restaurant, they have a great brunch menu on the weekends. Good prices
Beware of the burgers! I found a tooth in mine. This is not a joke. It was an actual tooth. What's worse is that I probably wouldn't be writing this review except for the fact that when I brought it to the attention of the server, she offered me a 15% discount on my meal. Are you kidding me? A flippin' discount?! What a gong show!
Good ambience and easy to access.. they have moved to a different location..
Good food and great service. The atmosphere is fun and they give you some elbow room between you and the next table which is nice
The vegan food is wonderful and my daughter loves their fries!!! I love the unsweetened iced tea. Thank you for still being Covid Safe for your Servers and patrons. The construction in front is a pain-not their fault… what we do is park on the back by the galleries. Side note their are a bunch of poké go stops in the area if that is your jam.
My office ordered a pick-up order at the Blue Plate Diner today. I ordered the grilled chicken club without bacon or tomato. They got the sandwich right, but it has no flavour whatsoever. My hospital food was better. On top of that, my side caesar salad had bacon crumbs on it when specifically it was mentioned not to have bacon. After spending 16.00 on a lunch I can't eat, I have to spend more to grab something I can. Super disappointed.
Great jazz band. Good fun. Wonderful grown-up restaurant for Edmonton
Blue Plate has been serving locally sourced comfort food since I moved to Edmonton many years ago. It's got a reasonably sized menu selection with good quality items. Very vegetarian and vegan friendly, with high quality meats for the carnivores. The meatloaf and vegetarian burgers are my favorites. It gets busy, especially at lunch and on weekends, so make sure to get a reservation or expect to wait. They also feature a rotating array of local art on the walls. Sometimes it's a miss, bit often they've got something interesting to see.
Ugh I’m so sad and disappointed about this ... both mine and my roommates meals were just plain and simply put not good. We aren’t huge meat eaters but both my jalapeño bacon and her sausages were undercooked and my hollandaise was luke warm. I hate being hard on restaurants in the pandemic but at the same time we were seated and it took 45 min to order. Very cute atmosphere and I hope I just caught it on a bad day but sadly very underwhelming.
Went for Father's Day Brunch, service was extremely slow, table next to us had a two customer turn over by the time we finished our meal. My husband ordered the special, Brisket Eggs Benedict and it came out dried up and overdone as though it had been sitting under the heat lamp for 1/2 hr. Food was definately nothing to write home about. Heard great reviews about this restaurant but it sure didn't deliver. Won't be going back.
Came here with some family this past weekend, we arrived around 1pm, but there was still only a brunch menu available. I wasn't really feeling like breakfast, but I ordered the blue plate breakfast with sausage and eggs over easy anyways. When our meals were delivered I noticed that they had not given me sausage, but the jalapeno back bacon, my toast was mostly soggy from all the butter that was slathered on, and my eggs looked like they were maybe flipped for 10 seconds before being put on the plate. There were no servers around to ask to correct the problem after the dishes were served so I started eating what I had, a server didn't come around again until there were empty plates sitting on the table, and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time, so the lack of a check in to see how things were tasting was a bit disappointing. To me the food was sub-par, and I could have made my own breakfast at home for the same price and it would have been prepared and cooked to my liking. My boyfriend and I both left feeling hungry as the portions were not very big despite the price. Best part is by the time I was going to bed that night I felt a little off, I woke up early in the morning with a severe case of food poisoning which landed me in the hospital as it was causing problems with my pregnancy. The doctor who was handling my care asked if I had been to any new restaurants or eaten anything that was new to me (this restaurant was the only thing new to me and out of the ordinary) and she said the likely cause was undercooked/improperly stored food. While some people at the table said the food was good and that they would come back, I personally will not be returning. I cannot risk the health of myself or my baby.
Good service! Breakfast could have been warmer.
Excellent food and very friendly staff. Very good family restaurant, has high chairs and booster seats for little ones, colouring and crayons, and a kids menu, also gave my toddler a plastic cup for her drink so we didn't have to worry.
Would have liked to order off the lunch menu at 1pm on a Sunday but they were still serving brunch. Still very good.
Really good brewed coffee. Excellent music playing. I had the breakfast burrito, very good.
Cute little place, down home service and unique food options.
Went for a Saturday brunch here and the breakfast was awesome. I had the small plate. The potatoes were crispy and unlike anything I tried before. Everything on the plate felt thought out. Definitely worth the $9. Must go for anyone.
Really enjoyed the new place, Food was perfect and so was the service.
Always great food, and service. They've done a great job creating an inviting atmosphere in the new location.
good portions, good quality, good service. fair prices.
I enjoyed this place, good food and decent service but it's nothing super special. Parking is less than ideal so make sure you plan ahead.
Decent food, different selection. Would be good for a date, little bit more up scale than say next act or mercers.
I tried a burger, can't complaint. Service was good and, even though you can make reservations, the place was not crowded
Catch my Blog Rob's Restaurants I have given the Blue Plate Diner 10 out 10 in my opinion. That is one thing I forgot to put in my review but I will say it here Blue Plate Diner is one of the best Diners I have eaten in. I am giving this Review for cost as you get what you pay for great food and great portions.
Came for lunch with a party of 4. I got a Cobb salad, one of the better ones I've had, very nicely presented as well! …
Had the blueberry ricotta pancakes with lemon curd and maple syrup. Very tasty!
Everything was great. Attentive but not intrusive staff and management.Reasonable prices
Good service, but too pricey. $14.50 for a glass of wine, and $4.00 for a cup of coffee is too much. The spring rolls are excellent; the hamburger very good; the fries were average, and the tuna melt just average. Lunch for two was $87.00 and that was only one glass of wine each!! Too expensive!!
Good food, was out of the pie I wanted to try but otherwise was very good.
Very good eggs Benedict with friendly and efficient staff.
I have loved this diner for many years. The food and service are always excellent. The biggest downside is that it can get very noisy. I recommend the toasted tuna open face sandwich with house salad.
I always have a wonderful experience at the Blue Plate Diner. Whether it's lunch or dinner, the food is excellent and the service is great. The atmosphere and decor is casual but you can easily go in work attire and not feel out-of-place.
The service is always pretty decent here. Sometimes at lunch they can be a bit overwhelmed though. The food wasn't super memorable to me. I don't think it stuck out at the time either as being anything special and it was a bit more expensive than I would have liked for what I was getting.
Consistently good food and a business-casual-type atmosphere. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu at any time of day.
Came for brunch on a Sunday. We did have to wait. While for our food which we anticipated but it was good when it came. Friendly service and staff did well to keep our coffee filled despite being run off their feet.
Cool lighting & decor, delicious food! I had their veggie breakfast bowl & I ate every single bite. Their potatoes are unreal. Best vegan mousse EVER
Very lovely cesaer salad, no anchovies. Cauliflower bites flavorful. Very polite, attentive service.
Nice staff and atmosphere but food was very plain and underwhelming. I had the veggie burger and it was very bitter. Also had the green onion cakes and those were quite underwhelming as well especially for the price. The rest of my family also considered the food to be bland. Fantastic music though. Would not recommend.
Great food (including several vegan/veg options), nice location, friendly staff. And I love the atmosphere here. So cool!
Been here a few times for brunch and lunch and have always had great food and service. It's got a retro diner vibe, and it's spacious enough to actually get a seat quickly during busy times.
The whole menu is delicious. Great staff.
Love the new space! The eggs benny was delicious as always, service was friendly and prompt and they have underground parking which was an added bonus. Highly recommend!
The food and drinks are really good. However both times I've eaten here the service has been slow. Staff is very friendly, they might just be understaffed, or perhaps it was just busy.
Fresh food and fun ideas - great brunch and lunch options- TRY A CINNAMON ROLL!!!
Love the atmosphere. Very cozy and warm. The food is great and lots of options for vegitarians and vegans. Also great burgers and other food for meat lovers too! Service is always friendly.
The first time we came we thought we had found the holy grail of brunch places. The next time we came we were a bit disappointed it didn't live up to expectations but it was ok. The third time we decided we wouldn't be back. Food is ok, but inconsistent and service is spotty to outright bad. I ordered a small breakfast but was charged for a large. The waitress at the till didn't apologize or correct the amount.
We have heard such great things about this place and tried it out. Won't be back. I never knew you could mess up potatoes. But, you can. They were baked, no flavor at all, I had to salt everything on my place. My bacon and bread was cold, my hot chocolate tasted like straight milk and my egg was under cooked..
Great food, try the maple corn bread anytime of the day!! Wonderful service, beautiful interior, super downtown location...
The food was tasty & all; the presentation lacked and potions for condiments were too small.
Take out
Always a pleasurable experience. Great location and super convenient. Rotating beers on tap are always changing, keeping things exciting.
Excellent breakfast, service, and atmosphere. Quiet and quick.
Love the new location. So much more space, and better seating options for date night, and large tables for groups. The food is still really good, and orders come out much more organized. They always have unique drink options worth adding to your meal.
Nothing special...burgers are very expensive for my taste.
Very nice and cozy place, but very very slow service..
Good place. Usually live tunes. Little smaller than I prefer....
Nice , cozy place and good food plus live jazz music thursday night .
Cinnamon roll review: Size: 5/5 Appearance: 3/5 Bread-to-Cinnamon Ratio: 1/5 [not enough cinnamon] Crumb: 3/5 [bready texture, not gooey enough] Value: 4/5
Great food, awesome service!!! I got the eggs Baneduckt, which was duck confit topped with a poached eggs and a delicious spicy hollandaise sauce. My husband got the breakfast enchilada with a blueberry pancake tipped with lemon curd. Yoooo...that pancake though was so so bomb!!! Thank you for a great brunch Blue Plate!
Very disappointing experience. Service was extremely slow, even when the crow began to thin out. It took more than 15 minutes for the server to take our drink orders then another 40+ minutes for the food to arrive. When it did arrive (only after we asked about it), it was mediocre at best. Just a messy, greasy couple of plates with food tossed in there. I had been eyeing the food next to us (they arrived after us but got the food before us) and their plates looked beautiful. Ours looked like Denny's (looked very haphazard. Out guess is they had forgotten our orders). When we were done, the dirty plates sat there for another 10 minutes before another server (not ours) noticed and took them away out of pity. By then the place was 2/3 empty. We had outlasted every other table, but not by choice. Took another 10 minutes for the bills to arrive. The moment the server came with the bill I whipped out my debit card. Was not going to let her make us wait again. Needless to say, highly unlikely I'll visit again. Too bad because I love all the businesses around it.
Service staff was amazing. The food was ok, not too many main dish options to choose from.
Good food but a bit to expensive for what you get. Nice restaurant small and cozy. Over all not bad could be better.
Pretty good food for carnivores and vegetarians a like. The atmosphere was really good, I would recommend giving it a try
The bison burger was really quite wonderful! Thoroughly enjoyed it! The misses had the pulled pork burger (which I couldn't try myself, however..) and she said the addition of beats and red cabbage made it really quite nice. Great friendly service too! I'll definitely be back there again sometime!
Never disappointed. The cinnamon rolls are a must and perfect for sharing.
So in love with their food. Will definitely go back here.
Service was good. Atmosphere felt pretty run down and thrown together, but maybe just not my cup of tea. Expected really good food and was very disappointed. The enchiladas had no flavour at all. I would not return.
Good food. But they played country music. I've never hated being anywhere more than when I was there.
Great food and service!
What an amazing staff and beautiful, classy diner! Definitely one to check out with kids. Our 4 year old loved colouring and ate up all the pancakes!!
First time here and we will be back. The staff was super friendly and the food is amazing. Really enjoyed the coffee too.
the service and atmosphere are very nice. I love their pancakes and chai tea latte <3
Lol they offered me french fries instead of baby potatoes....
Came here out of impulse on a quiet weeknight. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The chocolate mousse was phenomenal. I loved the vegan shepherds pie, although, with the fries it was a lot of potatoes; my fault. I should have gone with the salad. The other picture is the meatloaf. I love that they offer both vegan and non vegan options. Perfect for a date for a vegan and an omnivore.
Food weird and unappetizing. Why is this place so highly rated? We tried it a second time just to make sure. Still gross.
Great service , tasty food ... and a really well rounded selection ! I'm looking forward to my next visit!
Fantastic place for Sunday brunch. So good!
Best macaroni and cheese in Edmonton (personal opinion) they also have an extensive menu of vegetarian options.
My wife and I swung by to pick up our food for take out a few weeks ago. We were VERY disappointed! First of all, the burger was VERY bland, it tasted like there were no spices at all. Secondly, the burger was HALF the size of the BUN! It was a small tasteless burger and quite frankly, I feel ripped off because of the size of the burger. They weren't even busy so I do not see an excuse. My wife had the same issue. Not coming back.
Overrated place serving classic food with a hipsterish twist of mediocrity. Friendly enough staff until we left an appropriate tip for the food and service. Good beverages and selection of local beers. Ordered specials and took 45 mins, even though hardly any tables full. Cod burger and bun were a little burnt and not too great. Decor is pleasant...don't look too close; men's bathroom (gross) is just off the kitchen, I took a peek in and it looked unclean. Maybe it was an off day but once was enough and I won't bother again.
First time and last time for me. Not very many negatives to say, well decorated place, decent selection on food options and great dark roast coffee. The service definitely lost 3 stars in my opinion. Was hard pressed to get a refill on the coffee towards the end of the meal, and only got the one. Ketchup didn’t come in a bottle, but little paper cups and they only served one for a whole plate of fries. Definitely don’t discourage anyone from trying this spot out for a lunch, but definitely could use some work on the service end, friendliness, professionalism and just good waiting. Hope this read was helpful to anyone who took the time to read it through. Cheers.
Great cinnamon bun, service was good and food was excellent. Definitely recommend.
Everyone was raving about this place so expectations were high. Food was average, decor drab & service slow. Usually give a place two chances so prob go again...last chance
Tasty food. Large vegetarian selection.
The vibe when we went was terrible. The server made us feel very uncomfortable the entire time. The food was below par.
Great staff and great food! Highly recommend .
Food was great and good portion sizes, service was fast and friendly, would highly recommend this place
Great food, great service.
Delicious NEW location. Love it.
They make a good effort but it's not the best brunch in Edmonton. They failed at the eggs but we didn't give them a chance to correct. Sorry. Potatoes were vantastic.
Awesome food! The meatballs and the burgers were perfectly seasoned and our waiter was amazing!
Staff was very kind, food was delicious, quick service my coffee was never empty! Will definitely return!
After all the reviews I read I was excited to go and see what all the fuss was about, but sadly was disappointed. I ordered the eggs Benny as this was the signature item according to the server but the hollandaise was cold.... when I mentioned this they said that is how it is served. I have never had cold hollandaise before. Maple French toast was good. Was surprised by the skin on whole potatoes as the brunch potato. Not my cup of tea but it was steady.
We had Eggs Benedict and the breakfast special..and the potatoes were perfection! Baked baby potatoes!! The service was prompt and very friendly and the music was Motown rock ..perfect for a Sunday !
My company and I found the food pretty mediocre
Excellent lunch menu and service. I'll definitely be going back! It's a nice change to get my meal fresh rather than after it's sat in a warmer, the spinach salad was still crisp! ^_^
Love this place. Such a quaint little restaurant, with fantastic food and a great beer selection as well. Their brunch is fantastic. Highly reccomended!
As a restaurant owner myself for over 20 years I have been trying to support the local restaurant businesses in the downtown Edmonton area during this coronavirus madness world and was looking forward to finally trying out The Blue Plate Diner for the first time today. What started out as a fun adventure for myself, my 18 year old daughter Sacha who not only grew up in the restaurant business but also was a in the hospitality industry in California as a hostess at a 5 star restaurant over there in Walnut Creek, California, turned extremely sour when I was BARRED from entering the business because the owner Aima decided she didn't have to accommodate myself and my "clearly identified government qualified service dog Laz" in her restaurant and told us that because although again I clearly again identified myself as "mask exempt" as a legally disabled person with a clearly identified legally government qualified service dog that she "had the right to refuse service to anyone" and would not accommodate our disability requirements to be able to be a patron at her restaurant. While I tried to remain cordial and pointed out several times that she was in fact BREAKING THE LAW by discriminating against a legally disabled person and refusing entry into her establishment she continued to refuse us entry into her establishment so we ended up just leaving and will NEVER go back to an establishment that discriminates against disabled persons and would not make reasonable accommodations for us to dine in her restaurant. Instead we walked to OTR on Jasper where as usual their employees were lovely and very accommodating to us as I again clearly identified myself as a legally disabled person with a government qualified service dog, and the meal there was fabulous as usual and our waitress was absolutely amazing. Needless to say I will NEVER go back to The Blue Plate Diner and will continue to support the small businesses in downtown Edmonton that do not discriminate against disabled people and government qualified service dogs!!!
Great staff , wonderful atmosphere and awesome food.
My favourite diner in Edmonton! Funky, arty, happy ambiance, yummy enchiladas, sandwiches, soups, and good (not shi-shi) cocktails. Indoor and patio seating. Sadly, lousy bike parking. It's like they don't know the city will install bike lock-ups for free ????
Fun friendly diner with amazing food
One of my favourite brunch places. Amazing pancakes! Sunday’s are usually busy, but we’ve never had more than a 10 minute wait for a table
mac & cheese was VERY bland, and although the food came out quickly, both mine and my boyfriends food were cold. Presentation was null. I was excited when my mimosa came to the table as it was rather large (always a plus!) but I was quickly disappointed as it was quite weak. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant one star is because the service was good.
Great food and staff.
really awesome food and drinks! menu is really diverse, very modern. The building itself is very open which makes it hard for conversation since theres no nose barriers, it gets very loud, hard to hear the person next to you even talk.
I had lunch at the Blue Plate Diner today. It was a very good experience. The food was great, the service was also great even though they were very busy. I would for sure reccomend this restaurant. I'm also happy to say, the social distancing was being followed and masks were in place. ???? I have no idea why anyone would complain about having to wear a mask while walking to their table. All around good vibe.
Always a good meal! New location(to me) was so bright and the mimosa was delish!
Blue plate is a staple in Edmonton and a must try for great dishes and a decent locally brewed pint of beer.
Absolutly fantastic food. I cannot say enough good things about the blue plate diner. P.s. what ever you did to those potatoes.... keep it up.
Suggested to meet some friends here for brunch- was dissapointed and a bit embarrassed to say the least. Slow service, mediocre food that was tepid at best. There wasnt any hand towels or an air dry option in the restroom; but there were plenty on the floor. I am pretty sure the server never asked us how our meals were because she already knew they were not exactly stellar.
The plate wasn't even blue! But in all seriousness this was a lovely diner experience, service was quick, the food was delicious, and all the staff were very friendly! It was a lovely start to my day, if I'm ever in the area this early I'll be sure to stop by again!
Very very disappointing. We met up with friends here, expecting great things based on reviews. Our food took almost an hour to reach our table. We were not offered any coffee refills. When our food did arrive, it was warm, not hot. Probably because of the 10 minutes I saw the plates sitting on the serving counter top. The coffee may have been freshly brewed as described, however there seemed to be a lack of beans in the grinder. One of our friends, did not receive her back bacon, then when it was brought to her, it looked boiled rather than grilled. Our friend also asked for more hollandaise sauce as she barely had any, only to be told the kitchen had ran out All 4 of us received eggs which were over cooked. The sausages I received were greasy, bland and of a cheap quality. Our server, may have been new, as she did not seem to have much idea on waiting tables. There will be no recommendations from us to other friends. We will also go elsewhere in the future as we are aware of several excellent brunch restaurants in Edmonton.
We were so lucky to be staying a block away from this place. It was our best dinner in Edmonton. It has good variety and flair, excellent local beers and Pinnochio artisan ice cream with the desserts.
Had a reservation for 4 and got a very comfortable booth. We ordered the corn bread and onion cakes for appetizers and they were the best we've ever had. Had the bison burger with mac n cheese side and it was delicious. The burger wasn't too heavy, it was just right. Not loaded with toppings where you couldn't taste the meat, just the meat with fried onions. Mmmm yummy. Also had great service!
Such a cute little diner with a beautiful patio, if you come in the summer ask to sit outside! We got the maple glazed cornbread (reminded me of the southern cornbread! Yummy!) and had the Bison Duck Confet burger. The burger tasted like any other burger, but you must upgrade to the Mac N Cheese for $2 (super worth it!). It was creamy and perfectly cheesy, excellent when it’s hot. Servers were so outgoing and friendly, they offered to split the plate at no cost and gave both me and my friend our own little bowl of Mac N Cheese for no extra cost! Super friendly and unique atmosphere for a diner!
Love it! Brunch is BUSY, LOUD & service is slow. Don't go for brunch. Dinner on a weekday is awesome! Love the localness of the ingredients and different options available
Very cozy place with delicious food and excellent service!
Service here is always quick and friendly. The food is delivered in a timely manner and is very nicely prepared. The menu consists mainly of comfort food items, but each with a twist which elevates it several steps above what you would expect to find at home. A great choice for a simple, delicious meal.
Went here twice is one week and the first time food was great -chicken sandwich & salad, service was ok we were a group of 8 so it's always hard but everyone's food looked good and smiles all around. Second time went with my partner and service was great and fast but food was really unremarkable -tuna melt & mac n cheese. Low point was getting ketchup to mask the canned tuna taste in the sandwich. I would try one more time to finally make a decision on the Blue Plate Diner.
Incredible food for any time of day, wonderful decor and a very pleasant atmosphere, definitely would recommend this place to anyone...it's a must imo!
Food is always good here! Bunch is awesome but I have to say dinner is better.
Been coming for years. Always an excellent experience (customer service and culinary wise) at Blue Plate. Super cozy!
Revising after the move. Food is still great. Removed one star as there was a massive loss of ambiance. Feels a lot colder and loses the atmosphere that made it stand out.
Great Benny
Food was absolutely terrible, the service was worse. I was so disappointed after people told me good and bad things about it. I should have listened to the skeptics.... time wasted that I can get back...
I'll start off with that I was so beyond excited to try this place out. I read their menu online beforehand and was pumped about all of the delicious selections. After paying for $12.00 parking (of course to be expected being downtown) we were greeted happily at the door. We had booked a reservation prior to coming. Our table was ready shortly after we arrived. We were then seated outside and it was a beautiful evening so we were delighted to be out on the patio. After ordering and being brought drinks, we were then told that over 5 items of their very small and select menu were sold out and not available. So disappointing as this is why we came here! Anyways, we ended up finishing our drinks and heading out of the Blue Plate Diner to another restaurant. We aren't too sure if we'll be back as we thought a weekday night would be the best time to come but it turned out not so great.
Great food. Very nice staff.
One of my favourite places for brunch in the city. The Egg Beneduckt in particular was really good.
Great food, lovely service. Always a good choice????
Solid mix of locally-sourced food and craft beer. Interior is eclectic and cozy; staff are always on point. I recommend their veggie burger for sure!
My favorite restaurant in edmonton. They have a great selection of vegetarian items and have a great atmosphere! I love the decor, especially the vintage lamps and tables. Lentil loaf is my fav item on the menu
Ordered the mac and cheese with bacon and peanut butter pie for dinner. The mac and cheese tasted absolutely delicious (probably the best I've ever had) but the portion size and amount of bacon added were incredibly small. Definitely not what you expect with comfort diner food and didn't justify the price. Really disappointed in that regard. The peanut butter pie, however, was so delicious and unique I would go just to have it by itself.
Let me begin by saying that I NEVER write reviews about anything. This was such poor experience that I feel the need to warn other patrons about this restaurant. It is very unfortunate. I was very excited to try The Blue Plate Dinner because of the wonderful reviews I heard about it. Upon arriving at the restaurant the staff that greeted us was friendly. Our waiter came take our order and he seemed nice at first. My husband ordered the tuna melt open faced sandwich and a bowl of French onion soup ($14). I ordered a half order of the tossed green salad ($7) and the green onion cakes to start ($6) Looking at the menu, I noticed it was a bit pricy but not too outstanding. But I had yet to see the portion size. Our starter of green onion cake (not cakes) was a single green onion cake cut into six super tiny triangles. For $6 I found this completely over priced. Literally a $1/piece. Usually when I order a green onion cake it is no more than $3 and is 4 times the size of the green onion cake we got at blue plate. It was soaked in greasy but still undercooked. Our food came out and it was absolutely terrible. My husband's tuna melt sandwich was 2 very small pieces of bread (like I mean ridiculously small) with a can of tuna and melted cheese dumped on top. My 7 year old could have made this better. It looked slapped together. It also looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for an long amount of time. His tiny cup of French onion soup was only half full. My husband offered me a bite of the sandwich to try and I almost threw up because it had a rotten fish flavor to it. My first thought was this is what cat food must taste like. I love seafood. Of all the fish I have ever had, this was by far the worst. My salad was wilted and the cucumber on it tasted like wet dog. I couldn't even finish it. The dressing was so bland that it pretty much had no flavour at all. Our waiter turned out to be as awful as the food. He took forever to come check on us and when he did finally come, he didn't even wait for me respond when he asked how everything was. He turned his back on me and walked away. Another server came to clear our plates. Our waiter came back to ask us if we wanted desert. I started explaining that I was not very impressed with the quality of the food, the portion size, and how over priced it was. I was about to say that I understand that the food wasn't his fault but maybe a word with the kitchen might be a good idea. I was mid-sentence when he turned his back on me (again) and walked away. I was stunned. I have never in my entire life had a server be so disrespectful towards me. I was not rude in anyway and I did not deserve that kind of treatment. Guaranteed if my husband would have said something, our waiter would have listened. I told my husband I was leaving. I was so upset with the service and food that I grabbed my jacket and said I would meet him at the car. As I was leaving the hostess asked me how everything was and I told her flat out that it was terrible. She asked what happened. I told her the quality of the food was poor and about how rude our server was. At that point I was so upset I said that I wanted to speak with the manager. The hostess than told me our waiter WAS the manager. I was shocked! I have been in the hospitality and restaurant business for years. If a manager is treating his guests like that then he is in the wrong business. I understand that everyone is fighting there own battles, but it doesn't matter how bad your day is going you put a smile on and make sure your customers leave happy. Especially if you are in management. I would love to see how he would react if he was treated the way he treated me. Do yourself a favor and go spend your hard earned money where people actually appreciate your business. The Blue Plate Dinner is now on my blacklist. Anyways, thank you kindly for taking the time to read my review.
Very friendly. Tasty food for sure. Support local ????. Prices are reasonable. Good experience ????
Service
I was taken here for lunch by my Manager and I was quite surprised by the high quality of the food! And the prices were amazing. Great place for people who work downtown to take a break from the demands of the day, very conveniently located in a very beautiful, cosy environment. Staff were very helpful, overall highly recommended.
dont go there bad area
Atmosphere and service were great. Food is pretty good. Good place to go for a date.
Enjoyed the veggie burger along with a craft beer during happy hour. No pretentiousness here.
I don't get to eat here as often as I would like. Finding parking is a nightmare. That being said, the food has always been awesome every time I have been. Most recently, it was for a "Girls Night Out" and I have very complicated dietary requirements that I have recently been plagued with, so finding somewhere I CAN eat has been a challenge at best. The atmosphere is candlelit and retro. Brunch here reminds me of Grandma's house with the mismatched tea cups and dishes. There is always great local brews on tap and the food is also largely locally sourced. My girlfriend wants to bring her fiance back here for a date night. There are some vegan and gluten free options on the menu - they are indicated. For other allergies or sensitivities, you may want to ask your server. The menu descriptions do not list all of the ingredients. The staff here has always been gracious and accommodating! Let them know what you need and they will make it happen. There are some awesome daily specials and make sure that you save room for dessert!
Heard a lot of good things about this place so maybe my expectations were too high, but I found the food to be run of the mill and the mimosas were more than 50% just a cup of ice. Absolutely couldn't taste any bubbly in it. One slice of my …
Lovely food, friendly staff and I was lucky enough to get some of their bake at home cinnamon buns! Plus I won a pecan pie from a contest, so I am super fortunate and grateful!
A better beer selection and more carnivorous appetizer selection would be top notch. Otherwise great service and atmosphere
Attempted to eat a reasonable amount of food. But even small plates come with good portions that made it hard not to over eat a little. This is a good 'problem'. Staff were courteous and on the ball, even though we were there during a busy brunch.
Amazing food, great vegan options. The vegan chocolate mousse is to die for!!
Friendly staff & personal attention by the owners. The food is not just good, but truly delicious! Welcoming atmosphere and decor, warm and inviting; good patio available as well. Very reasonably priced too. We are coming back soon. By the way; try any soups, with their onion cake, to start with - out of this world! ???????? LCA
Our experience was not a good one. It was cold in the restaurant, the lighting was so dim we had to use the table candle to see the menu and when my cob salad arrived I could only see the cubed chicken and sliced egg on a bed of lettuce. Could not see what else was on the lettuce. No blue cheese as stated because they ran out. My husband's spaghetti and meatballs were warm, not hot. We were disappointed that there were no buns or garlic bread offered with these entrees. Had the beet cake. Again could not see what it looked like because it was so dark. The cake was icey cold and I found there was no flavor to this cake. The chef really likes to use a lot of garlic. If you like lots of garlic you will enjoy this food. We will not be returning.
Had brunch here this morning. Ordered the Southwest Breakfast Burrito, kitchen was out of black beans (the second main ingredient in the burrito) and rather then tell the waitress they served the food anyway; the kitchen should know better. For the waitresses part, they did do their best to improve the experience, but that only goes so far when the food is not what you ordered.
Food was good. I would certainly recommend it. Not sure why it has a reputation as one of the best restaurants in Edmonton though.
Came for brunch today, lots of open tables/bar seating and yet a lot of people (over 20) waiting in the entrance to be seated. Took about twenty minutes to be seated and another thirty for our drinks/food order to be taken. Ordered a chai latte and was given a regular latte (which I drank anyway because the server never came back to our table until about an hour later). The food was really good, fresh and hot. Service was lacking (but the server we did have was friendly enough). I would like to come back because the breakfast potatoes were awesome but we spent almost 2 hours here today, and only about 15 minutes of that was eating our meals
Food was absolutely delicious !! Staff is so friendly and the entertainment was great and relaxing !!!
Not what it used to be but still decent food and service. That said, I’m willing to revisit them in their new location next time I’m in Etown.
My number 1 spot for breakfast when going to the downtown market. Great breakfast at low prices. Only complaint would be the fresh cinnamon buns, tasted as though it was missing a key ingredient, but could just be my palate (also, they are huge, so keep that in mind if getting one). Eggs Benny is my dish of choice!
Worst meal I have ever had in my life. Don’t waste your money on this place. Not sure where the good reviews come from. Felt like i was eating my meal prepped in a box in the microwave except that would probably taste better. 0 stars
Just okay, wouldn't come back. We got the Back Bacon Egg Benny and the South Chorizo Breakfast Bowl, fresh Cinnamon bun and Coffee. The eggs benny was plain and simple; the bread was soft and the bacon didn't have much flavor to it, it all together pretty much just tasted like bread and was disappointing although they cooked the eggs perfectly. The Chorizo bowl had alot more flavor to it and lots of potatoes. I would recommend the Chorizo bowl over the egg benny. The cinnamon bun was mediocre but the coffee was good though. The atmosphere was super cute and clean definitely got a old school dinner feel from it with good music. The service was fast at the beginning but started slacking as soon as we got the food. We had to wait quite awhile before getting the cheque after the meal was finished.
We are so disappointed with the lunch service on June 11, 2019 (my birthday lunch). We waited 40 minutes for burgers and fries! We ended up taking our food to go. Redemption: Free Beet cake!
One of my favourite places to eat in Edmonton. It's like home cooked, organic, local food from nearby farmers when possible. Killer veggie burger and best sweet potato fries in in the city.
The food was reasonable, the feature desert (ice cream brownie) was frozen and we really needed a knife to eat it, and the service was a bit slow. Especially for not being really busy. (Not great pictures but the presentation was pretty.)
Great diner to spend with friends. Good service friendly helpful employees.
Atmosphere is the primary asset, with a cheerful, artistic décòr. Service is friendly and fast. Breakfast was great and the lunch seemed even better. I am hooked!
Food excellent. Unfortunately the place is soooo loud that you can hear the person across the table ☹️
Loved it. Great food, service and ambiance. Good selection of vegan/vegetarian options. The addition of the large patio is nice.
..wonderful staff...had a great selection of wine and cocktails. Generally have dinner..but I have enjoyed their brunch too...and always great ..thanks so much for moving closer to my home...and keeping the great food...drinks and fantastic staff
Very good food and cool hip environment. Drinks were good and the price was reasonable. Really enjoyed the beer can chicken.
I highly recommend a different place to eat. I posted some picture of the food that looks fine, but taste was horrible. I had dried out meatloaf... And it seemed it was okay by the chef.
A warm and friendly place to eat. Meal portions were just right, and food prices were as expected. The place was full and casual conversation overrode the music to where I had to focus on the music to hear it, however I didn't mind this at all. Service was very good.
All around awesome. Nice staff, service was fast and the food was great!
Cool atmosphere and has a patio. Service is good and the food is nicely presented. Servings are a touch small but that could be a me problem.
Great food with excellent service! Naomi was an amazing waitress who made our first experience at this restaurant a great one. Would definitely suggest this restaurant to friends and family!
Great food, excellent service and a warm atmosphere. I'd recommend it to family and friends. I will be back.
Enjoyed this casual dining experience. Service was good. Waitress was very accommodating. Food was tasty.
The Blue Plate has never disappointed me. Great staff, great food selection and spectacular atmosphere.
Went there for lunch with some family amd was really disappointed with how poor the service was. Once we were seated it took nearly 15 minutes until we even had someone come to get our drink order and that was only after we asked someone who our waitress was. After we received our food (which took quite a while to come out) we had to ask somebody where one of our sides was and they said it was never put in as part of the order and would be about 15 minutes before it would be ready. We told them we no longer wanted it as we would pretty much be done our meals at that point and it shouldn't have been forgotten as our waitress had supposedly been writing down our orders. Not once did anyone ever come to our table to ask how the food was or get us refills on our beverages and the only times our actual "waitress" came by was to get our orders, bring the drinks and then we didn't see her until we were ready to pay our bills. We only saw her 3 times over the course of the almost hour and a half we were there. Even the act of paying for our meals took a lot longer then it should have as there were issues with 2 seperate debit machines. While the food was pretty good the total lack of service or care from the staff has made it so I do not wish to try it again. Just an overall really disappointing meal
I had a good time Blue plate restaurant has a nice vibe. But the service wasn't quite what I had expected. Had to wait a long time for the server to return whether it was for a water refill or just to see how the food is. It was even hard to flag someone down. The food was decent. But never really fell in love with any of the food, that I had tried. I will go back to try it again. Might have just been a one off.
Always great food here but this past Saturday we waited over an hour for our breakfast... not a big issue except they were slow to refill a coffee cup or to offer any update on our meal status. Later, when paying, the waitress thanked us for our patience and said they'd realized too late that having a chocolate chip pancake as their special of the day was a mistake as the whole griddle was used up cooking pancakes. Fair enough... just let people know sooner...
I enjoyed their breakfast: ricotta pancakes. Quite delicious. I found their coffee mediocre. I enjoy how their menu changes weekly/daily for their feature.
Fantastic and super cute place for brunch.
Bacon cheese burger was very good along with the club that I tried off my friends plate. Service was fast and friendly when I went around 1 on a weekday. Not sure about ease of parking because I had walked. I think I prefer the atmosphere and openness of this new location to the one on 104th.
I love the thrift store collection of things that they are using and locally sourced foods. The Benny's are delicious!
Blue Plate never disappoints! Everything on the menu is good, especially the green onion cakes! They are taking extra precautions during COVID too, which is super appreciated.
Great burger for lunch. Fast, very courteous service.
Very nice bruch place.
Nice decor and cozy vibe. I enjoyed the brunch I had but it didn't knock it out of the park for me. Looks like they have a good selection of local brews which I would like coming back another time to try.
Great food and atmosphere. This is a great place to meet friends. Options for people with allergies.
Loved it so good. Diner done right
The food is good but the only problem is the waiting time.. Me and my aunt when here for breakfast and it almost took an hour for are 2 egg Benedict's to arrive. Other than that the staff is lovely and the inside is very classic.
Always a pleasure to eat here and the owners are of the type to work in the business themselves. Rima is such a peach, and the food is so enjoyable that whenever i make the trip to Edmonton from Calgary this is my first stop for the Sheppard pie. stuff of dreams right here...
My boyfriend got the smoked meat or some meat sandwich and it looked great, I got the grilled cheese and it had barely any cheese, and was very dry. Very dry. Hella disappointing
Good food. Our daughter had a burger it was under cooked. Replaced it quickly.
First time and I was so impressed with it. Had eggs benny soooo good! I was so hungry I didn't get a pic! Woll definitely be back!
The food was really great! I had the chicken club and vegetable soup. The soup had a really cool kind of curry flavour not over powering just nice. The sandwich was awesome and toasted just right. I'd totally eat here again!
After reading some some pretty sour reviews, I prepared myself and decided to pop in for lunch. Whatever this place was doing wrong, they clearly fixed it. Service was quick, friendly, the food was hot, and there were no teeth in my food (seriously read that in another review, wow). Definitely going back
Interesting and unique dinner plates that won't break the bank
One of the worst experiences I've ever had dining out. Awful service by a terrible waitress. Would never reccomend or go to this place again
The waitress was very nice, but service was very slow even though there were only 2 other tables occupied. The food was bland, and the lamb shepherds pie tasted the same as the meatballs, overpowered with oregano. Although I did not try the brussel sprouts, the rest of the people at the table enjoyed them. I get where they were going with the hip kinda vibe with the decor and the furniture, but I kind of felt like I was sitting in a daycare. Definitely felt overdressed.
I was here for lunch with a couple of friends and we were all impressed with both the food and the service. I had chai and the vegetarian Shepard's pie. I would definitely recommend coming here for lunch, but their breakfast and dinner menu is not to be ignored either!
Great food. Went at around 830 on a Saturday night and was able to get a table right away. Service was a little slow but the food came really quickly. Lots of vegetarian options. Love this place.
Loved the potatoes and their egg benedict
Good service, good food, went on a jazz night on Thurs so good music for us as well. There gluten free options as well.
These guys make food promptly and extremely tasty! Excellent restaurant, and I highly recommend it.
They do a great job of diner favorites. Worth visiting.
Great little place for brunch. Staff was wonderful, and we arrived early enough to ship the line.
Neat place, staff are super nice and friendly, food was great
Food is always great and the owner is always so nice and personable.
A great vibe with good food and a warm atmosphere and staff. Specials can be outstanding and brunch is phenomenal. He never gotten through a meal at Denny's or Alberts anywhere near as fast, so why would I go anywhere else? To wait for lousier food? A bit more expensive for certain items but if you believe in local business with local suppliers, it comes with a cost. There's always McDonald's
Had the gonzo breakfast here, very fresh and tasty. The potaotes are amazing! Will definitely be back. Coffee is really great as well!
We came here with our family for breakfast, and it was delicious! There were no complaints from anyone about the food or the service, the waitress was very friendly and accommodating to our group. The breakfast potatoes were the best!
My family and I did not enjoy anything about this place except the aesthetics. None of us enjoyed our meal because it was either bland and needed alot of salt and/or pepper or it tasted like it was missing something important. My mother felt our waiter was intrusive when asking questions because she would be mid convo. I personally thought she did a good job but I think her manager? Co-worker? should let her run her own tables. He was helping her by keeping our glasses full but it honestly felt like we were being watched by him the whole time. It was very uncomfortable. Who knows maybe we just got there on the wrong day? Either way we aren't willing to try it again because so many things weren't up to par.
Went for brunch and loved it. The duck confit Benny was delicious. The mimosas are also larger than most places for brunch.
Food was good, service was absolutely obnoxious. The young man serving us was at our table constantly and interrupted us on so many occasions. The restaurant wasn't even full, but I felt way too rushed in our time there to enjoy it. Definitely won't be back. Way too many other restaurants in the city to return to this place after such an experience.
Friendly service but the prices seemed high for what you got.
Always delicious and friendly, often busy accordingly.
The food is good, but for what you pay you're not always getting great value because their portions are so small. For example, the Mac and Chesse, while it tastes good, you pay $13 and you don't actually get a good serving. It's if they make the portions smaller - but price accordingly.
The mac n cheese and chickpeas dish were awesome. I came during lunch and the place was so noisy. The acoustics was just so bad you could barely have a conversation. Don't come here when it's peak hour.
Meal type
Great food and service. Would go again.
Drinks are pricey but the food was great. Great place to stop before a show or game in the area.
The old location was amazing. Stopped by the new location for a bite today and was somewhat disappointed. The crispy brussels sprouts were far too charred and bitter to be palatable, and the beef burger with cheddar and bacon was also overcooked. The service was friendly, but the interior of the new restaurant just doesn't have the same charm as the old one. I'm hoping it was just a fluke and not a great night for the kitchen so we'll give it another try, but for this visit I wasn't overly thrilled.
Great food and an awesome addition to 124 High Street area. They have an awesome selection of local craft beers to choose from as well.
Definitely recommend. Good food. Concise menu. Vegetarian & vegan options to choose from and quite willing to substitute on non-veg choices to allow for vegetarians.
Lots of vegetarian options. The shepherd's pie and quinoa soup was terrific. Although I considered having a whole meal of just appetizers because they all sounded so good too. Need to go back again so I can try more to things
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
Fast and friendly service! My eggs Benedict and coffee were delicious. Food seemed fairly priced. Definitely has a unique/ eccentric interior design and brings the hip crowd.
Delicious food, excellent service. Had the brussel sprouts starter and vegetarian beet burger. Both amazing.
Great food..service was excellent. Very popular place to eat by the lineups!
Great Eggs Benedict! Pleasant, atmosphere was 'open air' feeling as one would expect from these converted grande old buildings. Vent in the bathroom had 30 years of dust build up trying to get out.
Good food, friendly service, however, slightly overpriced. Hard to justify 18$ for a burger. Nice place to go if you want to go out somewhere new downtown with a hipster/old school diner setting.
Some of the best upscale dishes I have ever tasted. Been here quite a few times. Would recommend it to anyone who like good food with vegetarian and vegan options
