At this place right now. Placed an order 35 minutes ago and still waiting. There are a couple of tables but us. They claim they have many takeout orders that came at the same time. Never had to wait so much for sushi.

They use to be on par with the best sushi restaurants of Vancouver.. Until they chafed the name.. now they are meh. Above average for Courtenay.. which isn't saying much. EDIT: Since re-opening Sushi Jo is japanese for Sushi JOKE.

Family - owned and operated which is reflected in the quality of the food - our waiter said that his mom makes the kimchi herself on site! I go there because I enjoy a big bowl of udon to warm me up, and I start with the kimchi, gomai and agadashi tofu while I'm waiting for the soup. My friend always orders the teriyaki beef hot plate and he says it hits the spot perfectly.

Kind, attentive service and the best quality sushi on the island. They have access to toro, bluefin tuna and uni for reasonable prices. The lunch boxes are very filling and everything from the salad to the sushi to the gyoza is well cooked. My family and I loved the restaurant and would return in a heartbeat.

Best sushi in the Valley IMO. Sashimi is superb, great rolls, and awesome tempura. Having moved here 3 years ago from the mainland I was spoiled with the abundance of sushi joints to choose from. This has become my favorite here.

Adequate sushi at acceptable prices. Great for groups. I will give credit to their tuna belly, which was exquisite, but it's a sadly lackluster sushi restaurant. Great aesthetics, though, and whatever the dressing for the salad that comes in their bento is absolutely blew my mind.

For those who haven't come here and are considering it, or those on the fence, you need to come here, like yesterday. This place offers amazing vibes, it's bright and has lots of warm colours, and the staff is amazing. They were playing some sort of 2000's pop music hits on the speakers which gave me a nostalgia trip I wasn't expecting but was gladly accepted. The food is amazing. Try the dynamite rolls with real crab, or the beef teriyaki. Out of the park levels of good. Best I have tasted in the Valley for sure.

Ordered pick up but wished we had come in to it, the atmosphere looks so peaceful and quiet. The entire staff greets you when you enter, all super friendly. The sushi itself was amazing!!! Highly recommended

I have eaten here many times both in the restaurant and take out. I can't say that it is the best sushi in town but it is a close runner up and I think the best downtown. Thier prices are also quite good value and the staff very friendly and accommodating. I don't like spicy foods and often order a combo platter and they have always been happy to accommodate my tastes. They are doing very well and I wish them continued success.

Whilst the service is lovely, the food leaves something to be desired - dishes are carefully put together yet bland. Not all the food in the bowl was hot. The food didn't pack the punch you'd hope for in this style of cooking. Best thing were the tempura prawns which had a great texture.

Very tasty food and friendly environment. I think our waitress was having an off day because she forgot to bring my friend a spoon with his soup (he had to ask for it as she was walking by) and we never the water we had asked for. If it wasn't for that I would have given 5 stars.
