Here you will see the feddbacks of people who consumed the products and services of Sukiyaki House (Restaurant) around Calgary territory (Canada).
Now the firm receives a rating of 4.4 out of 5 and this rating is based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, it has an average rating is really high, and it is based on a very large number of reviews, so we may conclude that the valuation is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to leave their review when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to write feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant belongs to the category of Sushi restaurant.
Superb customer service. Judith was exceptional. The food was also top-notch. Normally, I can't tell the difference between most japanese sushi - but this one was noticeably delightful. Worth every single penny.
Absolutely love the staff! They are very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is clean and well looked after. I enjoy the set/setting of the restaurant its a very nice place to have a bite to eat with other ppl. The food is as fresh as could be and i love watching the chefs make the sushi which is to die for! Highly recommend!
Delicious as always! Great friendly service ☺ highly recommend making a reso if you're heading out for lunch during the work week fyi.
Great service. But its quite pricy
We really appreciate the staff (especially Justin) for hosting our little birthday party last night. I called a few times to inquire and make changes to our reservation and they were so helpful and accommodating. They let me know about the free evening parking in the loading dock without having to ask and they made sure my friend’s allergy was addressed right away and brought his food out separately. They went above and beyond! The service was excellent: Justin recommended the BEST sake, everyone from the floor to the kitchen was so friendly, the food was amazing and they gave us a generous bundle of Hi Chews to top off the evening! During a pandemic, it can be risky to visit a restaurant but they were so clean and we felt so safe. If you’re going to go anywhere in times like these, you may as well go somewhere great. I’ll definitely be back :)
Very high class experience. The staff were eager to share their cultural food with us, and to explain how to eat it.
Good food but could improve on the service. The staff don't seem to have an idea of what is best for customers. They ask unnecessary question like "Have you been helped?" Well why don't you ask instead how many people need to be seated to try to see if we really have been helped? Are you that afraid of showing the mistakes you make? This gave me an impression of the service not being that honest. There is especially the pandemic right now and businesses are unstable even if you may be doing well at the moment. I think you need all the help you can get. You cannot take customers for granted like before and need to approach your strategy in another way. Regardless, the food is good so I would visit here anyways but don't count on getting a tip. Plus I could have been a regular customer since I live close by but I feel it's not necessary for me to go there. Just remember that customers are the ones helping you, not the other way around.
California roll was strange. We would pass on that next time. Not really a family vibe, very quiet, better for a grown up dining group. Not many cooked foods or variety but decent selection of staples plus a few surprises. Everything they did have tasted fresh. We were given a free and beautifully plated mochi dessert. Thanks again for this! The sake menu is larger than most so fun to be able to try a new variety. Parking is not bad after the business offices close. Service was efficient and friendly. We'd come back, just maybe without the kids though.
favourite sushi place in the city
There is a reason why this place has been around for as long as it has. Always fresh and always delicious! Be sure to make a reservation as it is always busy.
This is my husband and my favourite restaurant restaurant for Japanese food. The quality is incredible. We've been to Japan three times before - Sukiyaki House is one of the few places in Calgary that can compete with what we ate in Tokyo. Prices are reasonable for the quality of seafood. We usually order the nigiri, agadashi tofu, speciality plates, and sashimi. My other foodie friends like to preorder the sukiyaki hot pot (24 hours in advance) as well as the tempura.
We had an amazing experience at the Sukiyaki House. Our server was phenomenal and very informative. Thank you!
Great sushi and we have eaten all over the world. Never would have thought that calgary would have access to hood sushi.
Amazing high quality sushi!
Amazing food, quality and service. We tried the special Hokkaido Hot Pot, Wagyu Beef Tataki, Spicy Salmon Roll and Dragon Roll. All were super tasty but the highlight for us was definately the Wagyu Beef Tataki.
Great room, impeccable service, food was delicious! I recommend asking about Sake (they have a unique and extensive list) and any daily feature the Chef has to offer.. so good. They will point you in the right direction.
Delicious udon noodles and sushi with friendly service.
Unreal good Sushi! The owners took care of us so well also! So very appreciated!
The menu is as expected for a sushi restaurant with few hot items but great sushi and sashimi and helpful and very efficient staff. The best sashimi I’ve had in Calgary so far by a long way. Went at lunchtime with my daughter and it being downtown had a few of the expected business types having lunch so the atmosphere felt a little formal and stiff. Will definitely book again for the evening to see if that is different as the food was excellent and inexpensive for the quality of the dishes. Draught Asahi also a real pleasure but will take an Uber and get some sake next time around.
I had previously only had Sukiyaki house delivered or catered and throughly enjoyed the food each time. - The food by itself warrants a 5-star review. UPDATE TO ADD: I finally was able to dine in. We booked reservations and dined in to celebrate my partner's birthday. The food was incredible. The service left something to be desire. It was really slow, and awkward. It was a weekday and the restaurant was not full. Our server brought out our food in a few rounds and then informed us at one point that it was all the items we ordered. We were perplexed as we ordered several other things. Another plate eventually came and she apologized for making a mistake. However, even with that plate, she had forgotten to enter several items we had ordered. This left for an awkward period where we were still hungry and had to order more food. At this point, another server came to assist us and we put in another order with him. In the end, we got everything we wanted and all the food was good. Would just appreciate if our original server could be more mindful when putting in the orders.
The quality of the food and drink is surpassed only by the hospitality and generosity of the staff. If you are lucky, Judith will serve you and share with you their knowledge about every dish and drink! I I recommend just giving a few pointers and letting them choose the dishes for you, everything is always excellent. 5 out of 5 for food, drinks and service.
The food here overall was not bad, sashimi was fresh expect for some of the hamachi were little dry and fishy, but the rice was stone cold and sour, it felt apart when you tried to pick it up with chopsticks. The real problem begin when my friend who is a local food blogger post a review about the place on instagram. Not only you guys didn’t take the feedback humbly but quickly denied that the fact that the food wasn’t on par. To make the situation over the top is that the girl(owner/manger?) who is in charge of your Instagram account, Judith (ins: j000d) posted the conversation between my friend and your business account to her own PERSONAL account resulting a bunch of people (who happens to follow Judith AND sukiyaki house) leaving negative comment on my friends account. To me this is highly unacceptable, I’ve never seen a restaurant do this to their own customer. Will never come back to this place again
Anyone who has been living in Calgary for 20 years and has been eating sushi in Calgary would be familiar with the name Sukiyaki house. It was one of the earlier (if not the earliest sushi restaurant in Calgary). Originally operated by Japanese and with a traditional Japanese decoration, the place disappeared along with the reconstruction on the 10ave. My son bought up this restaurant and we were surprised to find another restaurant under the same name. I have no clue whether this restaurant has anything to do with the original one but it certainly looks very different. The look is ultra modern with minimalistic decoration. In other words, you cannot tell if it is a Japanese or an Italian restaurant. As for the food, the sushi were fresh and tasty, just like any Japanese restaurant who is charging the top tier pricing. For example, chirashi sushi was $30 vs $25 at Roku (before it was closed). Service was fast and prompt, and reservation is recommended. The restaurant filled up fast on a Monday night. You won't be disappointed with the sushi taste, yet I was not drawn to return to try out other dishes like the other sushi restaurant I tried in June (please see my other reviews). Like the old Sukiyaki house, this place also has shabu-shabu, but the menu states it needs one day of notification, so we did not try. As such, it deserves a solid 4 stars.
Excellent service, quality & attention to detail
Wonderful staff and owners, have had take out and dined in multiple times. Sushi, sashimi and rolls, and their dessert is amazing, you must try the chocolate souffle!!! Green tea ice cream is also delicious. Wonderful service, a little pricey but the experience is great. Underground parking available.
The tako carpaccio has a nice citrus ponzu sauce to it. The Wagyu beef tataki was soft and the wasabi on top gave it a nice kick. The nigiri was melt in your mouth and very flavourful The rolls were very tasty, I thought the rice was a little too sticky but my dinner companion was okay with it; could be a personal preference though. The hand cones were awesome, lots of protein, smaller amount of rice, bit off nicely. The ambience was very pleasant, the servers were attentive (my water glass was always filled, empty dishes cleared quickly), the food came out at a good pace (had to ask about our cones but it wasn't a bit deal since we were getting full). Damage was $120 before gratuity
Everything was enjoyable fresh great tasting food, however the services wasn't quite up to par. Our server seemed to really only serve us half of the time we were there as food was delivered by food runners. When we politely asked for soy cause after our sushi was sitting on our table for at least 4min. our server with a quite rude tone said "you're gonna have to give me a minute i'm busy" she never ended up bringing any soy sauce, thankfully the food runners notice we didn't have any and brought us some without asking. After we finished our meal we ordered dessert this was almost 2 hours into our birthday dinner (8:30pm) there were no other customers waiting for tables our server came to the table and said "Sorry, you've been here for 2 hours which is the time limit for dine in, i can print the bill and asked us not to "linger" any longer pay and leave". If a 2 hour limit is set for dine in this should be posted through Open-table policy or even told to us when we arrived. Again, the food and atmosphere was great however this restaurant was recommended highly for the food and service. The service was quite horrible, there was an auto gratuity on top of the bill but i feel like the 3 other people dropping off food and helping us deserved it more then our server as they pretty much took care of us the whole night.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to in a while. I can tell quality is definitely on their minds when choosing their ingredients. Definitely would recommend people who like Japanese food and with a expensive taste
The makis are well presented. But frankly they do not taste much and are way too expensive considering the quality. Service was great though.
One of the best Japanese cuisine experiences I’ve had in YYC so far. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Innovative menu items that really tickle the taste buds ???? Servers were friendly and attentive, the tables were nicely spaced and the restaurant was clean.
Friendly service, food was excellent quality. First time coming here but will definitely be back again.
Female server with black hair and blonde strip was very rude. Argued with my friend about her order when it was the server who got it wrong. She was not kind or patient at all. Food was ok but service was awful.

Food was amazing and reasonable price. Staff were knowledge and knew how to recommend the menu
Delicious food. Amazing staff. Yummie cocktails.
My husband and I wanted a night in after a long day of driving into the city and walking on a hot day. After picking up our food and walking back to our hotel I didn’t realize until I got to our suite that I forgot to ask about the drinks we also ordered! I ended up finding my phone flooded with calls from the restaurant host and when I called back they knew right away why I was calling back. The hostess offered to hand deliver the drinks to our hotel and was very apologetic. You cannot beat their customer service and their food is top notch. Highly recommend this place :)
Food was tasty, but nothing amazing. Presentation was excellent. Unfortunately both of those things were completely overshadowed by the absolutely horrendous service. Slow service is one thing, forgetful service is one thing, but service that is combative because of being the first two? Unacceptable. The service we received would have been poor to bad for Applebee's or similar, let alone somewhere attempting to be more upscale. Never again.
Amazing Authentic Japanese Sushi. Fresh and delicious. Love their ginger so much! Would definitely come back again with my boyfriend. ???? We have been back for their Udon soup for lunch. Also for dinner a couple times and never once we were disappointed. Staff are always friendly and have us great recommendations and Food are already unrealistically awesome. Recently tried their Miso Soup with Clam and it's insanely delicious. No elsewhere makes their Miso soup like this. Their Wagyu Beef was so amazing that we were all fighting for it. ???? Octopus Tataki and Deep Fried chicken were also super yummy.
Fresh dishes and excellent services! They even explained how to try each dish and how they made them. Highly recommend for groups.
Very good food and excellent service. It's a little disappointing that Sukiyaki needs to be ordered a day in advance.
10/10 the best sushi I’ve had in Calgary. Service was incredible and everything we ordered was delicious! Would highly recommend the nigiri - unmatched quality. Will definitely be back!
Fresh, delicious food and amazing service! Best sushi in town!
Restaurant name is a complete joke, Sukiyaki isn't even available on demand (you have to let them know a day ahead of time to prepare it) and their portions start at a 4 people meal but it's just enough for 2-3 people. Everything else on the menu is good, pretty generic Japanese items made fancy with presentation. If that's the case though there are a lot of other options in the city that's similar.
Service and ambience is good. The food is just average. Sushi selection is great. They have imported fish from Japan. However the flavor and presentation could be better. Yakitori is good. Overall okay place for sushi if you work downtown and don’t mind paying extra for premium location.
We had a great time here! the atmosphere is very quiet and servers are friendly. we ordered the seasonal sashimi plate and that was definitely our favourite. the 2 sushi’s were also good (sauce was our favourite part), salmon one was nice, the other was slightly dry. overall though the food and service was beyond our expectations!
This was the best restaurant experience my partner and I have ever had. The service was nothing like anything I've ever had before. The food was brilliant. I honestly don't have enough good things to say about it. Just, take my world fornit, and go, you will not be disappointed.
Best spicy salmon rolls I've ever had.
It was our first time there and it was a great experience. The food tasted great, the sushi was very fresh and I don't think there was a dish that we didn't like. Our server Judith was phenomenal! It's been a long time since I was blown away by such amazing service. She was very attentive, gave really good descriptions and recommendations of the food/menu and overall, really added a touch of fun, positive vibe to our much needed night out. Thank you Judith and the staff at Sukiyaki House for such an exceptional dining experience!
Don't get me wrong - food is good. What ruined the whole experience is the manager's attitude and service. We were celebrating a birthday for a friend and some of us wanted Japanese hotpot as the resto is well known for that. Manager said we 'can't get it but can get it if you really want it'. Huh, what? So can we get it or not? Not only does she not know how to clearly communicate with her customers but she is also condescending in her tone - making a few of us feel very uncomfortable on this celebratory night. One of us gave her a compliment for one of the dish and she replied with 'yes that's why I told you not to get the hotpot'. Ok... Just take the compliment, we were trying to be nice. This is a high price restaurant. I expect good food and service. I was happy with the food quality but the service did not live up. I was personally offended by her attitude and her responses to our asks. She could be more sensitive and professional in her words. I would still recommend this restaurant but only if she's not serving.
Great food, especially spicy prawns, and yam tempura. I could literally eat that all day. Excellent service, staff was incredibly nice. My server, Justin, truly went above and beyond for my table. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Best mochi in the city! Their sushi is always top notch and their staff is friendly and helpful. Always enjoy going
Nice Japanese restaurant from the vibe to the food. Everything is totally worth the price and our go to place when we visit Calgary!!
I wish I took some pictures of the amazing food at this sushi restaurant. The sushi chefs definitely know what they are doing, great fish size, quality, and sushi in itself. The hospitality was over and beyond expectations, they were really doing their best (and a good job at that) to make their customers comfortable and were also very honest. Lovely place, would go again.
The food was phenomenal, unfortunately the server we had was very slow. Likely just an off day for her. Definitely check this place out!!
Second sake tasting event. Great food, drink, and atmosphere. Go try it out if you can make it.
We made an order online with a specific pick up time. It was ready for us and it was super fresh. The sushi was delicious and the staff were extremely nice both on the phone and in person! Highly recommend them and we will definitely be coming here again !
Visited this restaurant for my mother's birthday. From my experience, it's the top sushi restaurant in Calgary. Would highly recommend it to friends and family.
Excellent sushi and Bento box. Very fresh and tasty food.
Had a wonderful dinner tonight. Almost a fine dining feel on the pacing of the food. Some of the food were just a work of art and done with impeccable attention to detail. Sent all the plates to the back clean. Would recommend and come back..
Really good restaurant! The ingredients are so French. With the price
This is my favorite sushi place. Every time I come here I have a fantastic experience. The California Capilane Roe Roll is a must to try, the texture of the rice paper is unlike any sushi we have tried. Their features are worth the adventure and any of their staples like the beef tataki will not leave you disappointed. If you must know, the Asahi draft pour is the way to go over the Sapporo. Justin and Judith have not fallen short for making us feel a part of their restaurant family.
Good food and service, but overpriced relative to other sushi options. Sashimi dinner is not great value, while the chicken teriyaki dinner is a bizarre dish you wouldn't typically see at a sushi restaurant.
Best sushi restaurant in all of Calgary. I LOVE the lunch bento box, you get a little bit of everything, and it's all incredible.
Service
To Mr. Kwong, Restaurant Manager at Sukiyaki House I had tonight a rather unusual evening at the restaurant you managed. We booked for a party of 10 at 5h15pm Saturday 4th of September. When seated, the assistant manager came to us to warn us that we have to vacate by 7h45pm because another party was booked right after. I pointed out to him that that based on the email that I received from OpenTable, SH allows us (and any party of 7+) to stay for a maximum of 3hrs (see photo in attachment). Your assistant then told us that he knows the rules and insisted that we must depart prematurely. When put in front the facts (I showed him the email, written black on white) he stated that he could have refused us since we were late, past the 15 min “grace period” – I love that expression, it has a tint of arrogance. The hic is that we weren’t late. We were on time, within the 15 min “grace period”, waiting in the tiny lobbing giving access to the dining room at 5h25pm. A quick look at my phone confirmed that we were checked in through OpenTable at 5h30pm (see photo attached – Seated Confirmation). I am sure you strive to provide the best customer service and staff training. However, your assistant failed miserably in his tasks. In no way, I am a food expert, but I know the restaurant scene well enough to understand that your assistant talked through his hat and sadly, he demonstrated unprofessional behaviors. I hope these words reach you well. Best regards MD Nguyen
Seafood quality was very nice. Impressed with the tempura, notch above the rest. Sushi rice was a little undercooked and felt dry.
Good food and service, but definitely overpriced for what you are getting (in terms of sukiyaki/hot pot anyway). I do always enjoy a good hot pot without leaving the restaurant smelling like my food, hence why I enjoy this place. Spacious and nice ambience. Would not come back regularly due to the high price tag though.
5/5 highly recommend! The spicy prawns were so good, but everything was delicious and service was great!
Mussels and sashimi were nice, but if you're looking for good sushi that isn't bland, dry, huge, sticky, overpriced and hard to chew, then save yourself some time and skip this place. Our food server was great but one of the others (who I believe is the manager) ruined the experience with their attitude. Felt their passive aggressiveness the moment we walked in and got told to stay put and wait to be seated when all I did was look around at the table seating options since it was our first time and I was excited. Ridiculous. They also repeatedly looked at us like we were aliens and made us feel unwanted while treating the other couple besides us with so much enthusiasm. The restaurant was nearly empty and not only did we have them not once look our way, but they also flat out ignored my friend when he called for them, to continue chatting up with the only other customers there for the next 5 mins. I brought my mom here to try something special from what I had heard and left with a disappointed stomach, a dented wallet and a sour mood. Never coming back.
Simply the best Japanese food in Calgary. For first-class Japanese food, it's Sukiyaki House all the way!
I only ever have a great meal when I come here. Bomb fresh sushi. And I always order wagyu beef tataki and the fried shrimp. It’s my fav... so good!!! Staff is always super friendly too, they always remember what I eat.
Finally decided to try this place. Serving experience was overall amazing! We ordered the Agedashi tofu and spicy shrimp from their appetizer menu. Both of these were absolutely great. Delicious, flavourful and freshly made. We got their signature “cold udon” and I was a huge fan as I have never had cold udon before. The sushi roll were a bit underwhelming. We got spicy salmon roll, hamachi jalapeño roll and the stampeder roll! Stampeder roll was my favourite. Definitely suggest this place. The prices are on the higher end but the most of the quality is superb! Will be back again!
The go to place for sushi in YYC. A hidden gem we don't want to spread the news about because it is a secret worth keeping! Authentic Asahi from Japan. Try their Capilano Roe roll, covered in rice paper, a unique twist and Devine flavor. Our waitress Judith always leaves an impression from handmade punny sushi cards to settling our debate over Asahi vs. Sapporo. This place will not disappoint. ????????
Dinner tonight at The Sukiyaki House was truly exceptional . Food was tasty, fresh, expertly prepared and creative in its plating . Service was sincere, informative and timely . Completely blown away by our experience tonight. . I am a tough restaurant critic on the best of days , and our experience was 10/10. Thank you !
Top quality service and exceptional food
Everyone else I know loves this place. For some reason, I do not. Had a few of their rolls including the pressed roll(octopus?). I found the pressed sushi really dry. It had no flavor. The rolls were okay too. They didn't give the burst of flavours I expect of rolls. I think their rice lacks flavour so it flattens the other ingredients. Service was very good. I would return for the service and just to give the sushi a second chance(maybe I was a bit off).
Don't know if it's just the same name. But way different than the old restaurant. Not the same. Was disappointed because I loved it at the old location. Service wasn't great. Food was ok. The cold mashed potatoes were odd with some weird flavor
Great sushi. They even have fish from Japan. Tuna belly was amazing. Would have been nice if the portion was a little bigger.
