Could be the best steak sandwich I've had in ten years! Nice little setup for 'live' entertainment - small but up-to-date PA, good-sounding workhorse electric piano. Some credible jazz happened tonight. Instrumental music only so far as vocals are covid-restricted and musicians are paid via tip-jar (support your local musos folks!) But the Koi is cautiously stepping out to support live music and hey: GOOD on 'em! Ain't no stinkin' virus gets to stop hand-crafted music 'round here!

Koi is fantastic. Koi becomes a family. So many people I know are regulars there, myself included. For food it's one of my favourites. Beautifully prepared, fresh ingredients, and served by passionate interesting people, who themselves love Koi, because uh it's the coolest...! All kinds of scenes go through Koi, from jazz, improv, indie, to djs, rap battles, etc., and all during your meal. The entertainment factor is pretty central to the experience there, and because of the coziness of the venue, there can be a lot of interaction. I've had many good dinners, dances, and have played the stage a number of times there! 10/10 do recommend.

The food was awesome and the service was great. They also serve ginger beer which gets them an extra star right away. :) There's not really much for parking that's right next to the restaurant, but there's a large Impark a block north and parking there in the evening is only $2.

Love the vibes, the opportunity for artists to express their music, the friendliness of people (Im asian and I felt like I belonged. Staff was friendly and so were the musicians). Definitely one of the places I would go back to when I get a chance to drive back to Calgary.

I've been going to Cafe Koi for a couple of years now and normally the food and service is fantastic! We came here on Friday night for my birthday and were a little less than blown away. Luckily when it came to our food it was full of flavor as normal (I always say they have the best spring rolls in the city) but unfortunately the portions were drastically decreased on an already small portion. IE. There was hardly any curry in my bowl, I had half my rice left and no curry left and I was already using the curry sparingly. When it came to veggies in the bowl I had one quarter of bok choy that didn't even have it's top portion, around 4 pieces of broccoli and 3 mushrooms. My husbands food was no different. Between the two of us we had 2 appetizers and 2 mains and still ended up at Thai Tai within a couple of hours to have more food as we were starving. As for the service our waitress was friendly enough but prior to the restaurant picking up she was extremely slow, I had one drink in the 2.5 hours we were there. I ordered another beer that never came, waters were never topped up, and we were very rarely checked on. I'm hoping it's a one off but for a nearly $100 meal it would've been nice to have been full and have been able to grab more than 1 drink in such a long time period.

Wish i could give this place a ZERO! We showed up early, a large sign saying "Wait to be seated" was in front of us but No host in sight. We went up to the bar area to speak to one of the 'bartenders' she was very standoffish and told us there's nowhere to sit, that we would have to stand at the bar. She threw two menus in-front of us and left. She never came back, she never checked into any seating for us and when other customers came in she jumps all over them "would you mind sitting with other people or would you prefer to sit just the two of you" is what i heard her say right by the bar where we were. So we walked out, and went somewhere else where customer service and treating guests right was fundamental to how they run a business. I won't be recommending this place to anyone I know, or meet in the future and like many other establishments that are run poorly, surely it's just a matter of time before they're out of business.

I have worked with Koi in a number of capacities over the years from designing thier menus to producing numerous shows on thier stage, the food is always good and the staff are always friendly. I love that there are options for a wide variety of dietary restrictions as it makes it an ideal meeting place. Erin the owner is very accommodating and easy to work with. One of my favourite venues in this city for art and eats!

Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, the service was quick as well. Went there for the vegan and gluten free options, but was very underwhelmed by the food. We had the sweet potatoes and the vegan gyoza for appetizers, and they were quite good, but the mains were lacking. The Koi Salad, save for the tofu, lacked any backbone, and the dressing was incredible salty, we could not finish it. My sister got the rice bowl, which we also did not finish because of how salty it was. Overall good staff and service, menu and food quality needs some love.

I don't know if it has just fallen from grace for me or if it has changed over the years but I found my last visit just ok. I used to quite like it here. I had a curry bowl that was just a little too generic. There is a definite influx of "power" "health" bowls of this type now in the city which are also maybe just better. Nice healthy choice option if you need some more veggies in your life. Still tasty and my server was excellent. A worthy lunch spot.

Great spot in the beltline for lunch. I am a big fan of the Warrior bowl (rice with Spolumbos Chicken Apple Sausage). It was an awesome new way to experience a local favorite. The restaurant is small, but the service is great, and the menu is varied.

I have to start off by saying I had a pretty bad experience here. The food was médiocre and the service was atrocious! I was actually here several years ago when it had first opened. Our service was super slow and our server had spilt water on us. It would have been fine if she just apologized, instead she spent the rest of our meal avoiding us...which is unfortunate because they had one other person serving...needless to say we did not come back! And probably womt be returning.

I hadn’t been to Koi in a very long time and was not disappointed! The service was fantastic and the food was great. I ordered the Koi Salad and the portion was massive. Great flavours and loved the crispy tofu and candied cashews on top. The dried mango added an interesting texture and flavour. My cousin ordered the steak sandwich and it was very good too. If you are looking for a restaurant with vegetarian and vegan options. I would choose this place over the Coup as the portions are larger and the pricing is better.

Been so, so long since I've dined at Koi. I chose the restaurant again because I loved their food in years gone by. My lunch date and I were thrilled with the choice. I had a curry bowl with salmon and my companion had the curry bowl with tofu accompanied by cauliflower rice. The flavors are beautifully married and the dishes a delight to the eye. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and the proteins cooked to perfection. A beautiful and warming lunch on a cold winter day. So pleased the quality has remained intact over time. Highly recommend!

Brilliant asian fusion cafe. Excellent options fr vegans n celiacs. The menus a bit small; limited alcohol choices but some fun, unique cocktails. The barista sure LOOKED like he knew his stuff but I skipped an espresso. I can recommend the Ninja Food bowl- the salmon flaked apart with a nudge from the chopsticks (forks provided as well!) It may seem pricey but my wife (who works in the area) assures me the prices are comparable fr the area. This cafe would be great fr a business lunch or a midday date...

Honestly, I wanted to like this place, but...The noodle bowls we got tasted like oily mall food. Our pork gyoza were completely raw on the inside. they replaced it for us quickly at least, but overall a disappointing experience. Save your money and find “Asian food” elsewhere

TERRIBLE experience at cafe koi today. First people in empty restaurent, last people served. People arriving after had finished before we got our food. Had to get take out containers and go back to the office it took so long! they tried to give me kirin beer saying it was gluten free -it has barley malt and a fast google says it isn't. When we got back to the office there was HAIR IN BOTH DISHES. Seriously? AVOID THIS PLACE! Sad, has a great atmosphere too.

Great and chill atmosphere. It gets better when there’s a live band because the place just lights up with people over good food and music. The food can be unique though, so it might be difficult for others to get used to it. But overall a lovely place. Staff were very helpful and interactive with the customers and even the band. Good stuff.

Only been in Canada/Calgary a few short hours but found Koi listed on Happy Cow so dropped in for something vegan to eat. Not only was there a brilliant range of amazingly delicious food served quickly by great staff but there was a jam night happening so we got a fantastic soundtrack to our meal. Highly recommended!

The food is amazing, and it is one of Calgary's gems in terms of live music and culture. Koi was our wedding venue in 2018 and Erin was phenomenal. The event was better than we could have hoped for, the food was fantastic, and we could not have made it happen without Erin and the wonderful team. Phenomenal food, good cocktails, the servers are pretty on it. The real draw is that they have an insane variety of shows ranging from classical nights to hip hop. The schedule has a buckshot spread of different things to check out.

The food and music although excellent, the service is lacklustre. We attended a birthday gathering here over the weekend and the restaurant was understaffed and unprepared. We were given the incorrect order and asked if we were okay with it when receiving it extremely late anyways. Upon agreeing the plate was returned to the kitchen and apparently ‘kept warm’ before returning it to the patron who did not want the order in the first place. This place needs to hire more staff and staff that live up to customer service standards, rather than feeling threatened when not doing their job right. Inexperienced servers to say the least.

Cafe Koi had a fun small town arts atmosphere. I felt at ease and comfortable as soon as i walked in the door. Everyone was super friendly, service was quick, and the open mike talent (usually hit and miss at most places) was mainly excellent! Aziz (half owner) is a stellar guy and was very hospitable. I've already recommended this spot to a bunch of friends, and I'll definitely be returning when I'm back in town!

Just had a delivery from this place, a total of four different dishes. Each was utterly tasteless. Even worse, rather than having actual flavour some dishes (the salmon kimchi) is just doused in disgusting corn syrup. Seriously sad operation, esp given the dishes are close to $20 each -- tiny and tasteless. Definitely not going back

Oh and did I mention the food is wonderful I had the curry and man was it delicious!! I would highly recommend and go again. I honestly don't want to do a review because finding a fantastic place like this is great to share but then it'll become too popular lol.

We dined on their nice little patio space and had a very friendly waitress but unfortunately the wait between service was very long despite us being the only patrons there at the time. When our entrees were finally served, the portions were disappointingly small making it extremely overpriced for what it was. Our chicken dish was very sad, skimpy on the chicken, it looked bout 1/3 of a thinly sliced chicken breast. We were ready for a second meal after. Very disappointing meal, unfortunately would not recommend and will not be revisiting.

Fantastic service and delicious menu! Came here last Saturday with two girlfriends for dinner. Last time I came here was few years ago so I didn't really know what to expect but let me tell you it was beyond a great experience. The service was fantastic and our waitress went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed at all time. They had a live Jazz band preforming that night which was lovey and a very relaxing way to enjoy our dinner. We ordered a bunch of things off the menu and shared it family style which is typically what we love to do at restaurants and all of it was delicious and truly hit the spot. When I asked if theyhad non sweet ice tea the waitress told me that they didnt which wasn't a big deal at all to me but she insisted that it was no trouble for her to brew any tea they have in house and chill it. I didn't want to be too much trouble but she insisted that it was no problem at all and proceeded to make me a big pitcher of delicious fresh ice tea!!! I truly wasn't expecting that and was totally ok with just having some regular ice tea but the fact that they went above and beyond even for something as simple as that truly speak volumes of the type of restaurant this is and the kind of service you will get . All of us enjoyed the food, service and the entertainment and absolutely plan on going back and would recommend this place to anyone. Above a 5 Star experience all the way!

I was at this Cafe Koi last night, first of all the service was very crappy the waitress could not be bothered, we order four meals for the four of us and the menu said it was sirloin steaks and veggies so when the food came the waitress took it to the wrong table first and then she brought it to us and when the food arrived it was cold. I tasted the food and I can see the STEAK IS NOT SIRLOIN STEAK, it is the cheapest crappiest meat that you can buy on the market. These people are Con-Artist and Liars. They slice the meat in very small strips to disguise it but as soon as you taste it, if you are paying attention and knows the difference with meat, then you will catch these dogs, They charged a very high price for a very low grade meat. The food came in a small bowl it was a small portion of stripped beef with a lump of rice and sauce for $17.00 and a piece of fish with a lump of rice for $19.00 how pathetic, disgraceful!!! I need to call in the health board to come in and analyzed their meat. The inspector for the City of Calgary needs to come in and inspect the meat that they are tricking people and selling in their cafe koi . PEOPLE GO SPEND YOUR MONEY WHERE YOU WOULD NOT BE RIPPED OFF. THESE PEOPLE ARE THIEVES AND LIARS SCAMMERS.They have their friends writing good reviews for them but when you go there the food will speaks for itself.Go take a good look.

Very welcoming atmosphere. Wish I could give half points, because the only thing wrong with the place is that it's too small. You can't have a drummer playing without it being overwhelmingly loud, and solving that issue would mean more space. Other than that, would recommend.

Such a cool spot. We were here just on a regular dinner service evening but I really like the vibe of the place. The food was absolutely delicious and pretty reasonably priced. Attended a birthday party on a Saturday night, enjoyable food and atmosphere however not the best service. As table of 10 we had to wait forever for our drinks, our food did not come out on time and when it did our order was incorrect. As patrons when being charged gratuity because it is “policy” on a table of 6 or more I would expect to get the service I am paying for. When addressing our concerns with our server it was takin personally. In the service industry facial expressions and tone are key and when eyes are being rolled and customers are being dismissed it is not appreciated. Very unfortunate experience, I definitely would not recommend Koi.

Ordered the ramen, but an udon came instead. Wasn’t told that they were “out of ramen” when I ordered nor was anything was said to me when the waiter brought out the noodle. We had to ask about it before they went to “check” and just told us that the ramen was backordered. Definitely would’ve appreciated it if we were told when I ordered or when they realized they had no ramen before cooking it so I could change my order. It was bland and it was just a simple udon with some bean sprouts and daikon.

This place is a must! I've been here a few times with my spouse and we keep bringing friends and family here when they visit. The live music is the best. It's so hard to find a cute place, displays local art, has live music ( most nights) and the food is amazing. Gluten free and vegan options on the menu. Can't find another place like it in Calgary.

First the good: great staff, cool ambience, and fast service- they were nice enough to let us in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed and place an order. The ceaser was very well made as well. Now the bad: Pretty much all the food was sub par especially for the price. The tofu was so salty it was hard to eat without shoving a bunch of other ingredients in your mouth with it. The pork bao tasted strange, the chicken bao was mushy and tasted a bit like boiled vegetables somehow, and the spring rolls were extremely greasy. We spent almost $100 after tax and tip for 2 people- I would say it's absolutely not worth the price. There are much better spots for asian and vegan eats in Calgary.

I have no complaints about this place. The atmosphere was great with fresh flowers at the tables, the food was to die for with lots of vegetarian options, and the service was quick and helpful. We were there during an open jam, and the music was great and quiet enough that you could still have conversations. The musicians and staff were all very welcoming and friendly, making it an excellent experience.

I ordered rice bowl with tofu. The tofu was delicious but there was way too much sauce in my bowl. It was extremely salty. My friend ordered the noodle bowl and she couldn't finish her food because it was so salty. Veggies were cooked perfectly and overall it tasted good but tiny tiny portions for the price... Server was very friendly!
