Great atmosphere, excellent service, and unique flavours make this restaurant a must try! ——— The weather was beautiful so we opted to sit outside on the patio. The garden surrounding us was lovely and the staff brought around umbrellas for shade. The tasting menu seemed very tempting but we opted to order the charcuterie, brisket, and the tenderloin off the à la carte menu. We finished off the with chocolate crémeux. The food was very good; I loved the abundance of greens and herbs that they used in both entrees. Lisa was also excellent, she was very attentive, engaging and gave very good recommendations and explanations of the menu items. Overall we really enjoyed our experience; the Deane house is a tad expensive but I think part of that goes towards the beautiful ambiance. The Deane House is one of Calgary’s must experience spots and I would highly recommend it.
I never would have thought I am about to leave this review for the Deane House. I have always loved this restaurant and was supportive during their covid closure. Unfortunately today I question whether customer experience is a priority to them anymore. 45 minutes before my reservation time, I got a phone call from the restaurant telling me my meal would only be 45min long. Either I come early or that's all the time I have before their next event. For the longest time, I would pick the Deane House for a fine dining experience, not a fast food restaurant experience. I truly don't feel respected when the restaurant expect us to call up all our guests and rush them out the door NOW, so that we can "maximize" our time to swallow down the meal and get out in 45min. That experience was so stressful. If the restaurant truly value our business, I would appreciate at least 12h notice, not 45min, so that I can juggle time around with my guests. The Deane House did not see that necessary obviously and losing my business isn't much of a concern to them. Not once in the conversation that they apologize for this arrangement. Truly an unfortunate experience.
This cozy little restaurant has the sweetest Christmas atmosphere this time of year. I went here for brunch and the brown butter hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was the best I have ever had. Also, the cutest Christmas cocktails.
A beautiful restaurant that is cozy like a house yet rusticly modern in other ways. Yes there are haunted stories tied to this place but luckily didn't experience anything of that sort. The venue itself is well done. The service here is …
Brunch
I dined here a couple of times a couple years ago and thought it was really top notch. The atmosphere and setting is really superb. However the food does not seem all that great anymore. Service is good, atmosphere is great, the food is just so-so at best. Side of bacon was so burnt it was like bacon bits. Tasted like they deep fried the bacon until it was burnt. A lot of items on their menu are deep friend when they don’t have to be. Potatos, fish&rice cake, etc. I’m not sure if they have a new chef there ? Or what is going on. The eggs benny biscuit is hard and dry. Overall very disappointed especially when it was very good a couple years ago.
Service
I tried their chef's tasting menu and it was honestly worth every penny. Each dish was made so well, and the servers did an amazing job explaining each item as they came out. I was surprised when we were given an amuse bouche because I've never been to a place that does that, so that was a pleasant surprise that I still think about. I would absolutely go back.
I will Never go to this place. Weird old spirits have been seen . It should not be a place to make a business or anything else.!!!
Everything was a dream from the moment we sat down. The food was incredible, the atmosphere was perfect, and the staff were knowledgeable, animated and fun. It was a wonderful experience. Will definitely visit again.

Got lunch here a couple of weeks ago. A little more on the pricy side but the restaurant was beautiful. There is an adjacent garden and it is located close to the river. Ordered the burger with a side of fries. They had homemade ketchups which was really cool but weird to taste.
Such a Calgary hidden gem! We ate brunch in the garden and the good was really good, the atmosphere was sooo lush and calming. The experience seemed like it would be a very expensive meal but ended up being such a reasonable price and I ordered coffee, drinks, pastries and a full brekkie. Will definitely be returning asap!
Discovered this only recently as I'm new to the city. This place is fantastic. Quaint, elegant, comfortable, beautiful natural light... dishes were all unexpectedly as divine as the plating. Lunched here 2 days in a row. ???? soooo good. ???????? friendly staff. Please do not ever change that. ????
I first off want to say that their customer service is great. We had a lovely waitress that we had great conversations with. What I wasn't overly excited about was my meal, though the appetizers were great as well as one of the desserts, I felt like my Top Grass Beef Tenderloin lacked flavor. People have been asking about my experience but I think the main dish says a lot and this one just didn't do it for me. My partners food however was very good and he ordered the Briggs Farm Bison Brisket. The chocolate cake was good but extremely rich so the amount they give is too much and it lacks variety of tastes even with the toppings, I personally wouldn't order it again.
This Heritage landmark provides lovely ambiance and fabulous views of the Elbow River. Fresh and flavorful menu often made with locally sourced items. Great for brunch and romantic dinners. Service is excellent!
The garden bar is a beautiful place to have afternoon drinks and dinner. I wanted to share this post to also thank the Deane House for accommodating us last minute for a reservation. The service, drinks, charcuterie and oysters were all of the highest caliber and we will definitely be back!!
We really enjoyed the restaurant. The setting is excellent. The service was very good. The food was delicious, if not a little pricey. Portions were a little on the small side.
Food was amazing and the place was fantastic. Very flavorful and service was great! Couldn't have for a better experience. …
Everything about our experience was fantastic! The ambiance, friendly and helpful wait staff, and the delicious food... can't wait to come again.
The food is exquisite. The atmosphere is quaint. The service is fantastic.
Went for a family dinner before Christmas and it was very good. Menu is unique and fairly balanced. Food was amazing and the wine selection is extensive. We had many recommendations from Katie for wine and they were excellent. …
Creepy and cool. Beautiful spot for a cozy dinner with a friend who lives ghosts.
We made online reservations here for our anniversary dinner and made a special note in our reservation, too, but when we arrived they lost or switched our reservation. We still got a table but when we sat down our waiter didn't ask us if we were celebrating anything special and seemed uninterested in us being there. We ordered some drinks, oysters, mains, and dessert - all of which was overpriced. Food was decent but very average and small considering the prices. We left pretty hungry. For dessert, we were not offered a drink menu or tea/coffee but it felt like we were being rushed out. The total meal time was really quick - under an hour for "fine dining." Overall, not a memorable way to celebrate our anniversary and as such, we will not be returning.
Ambience and service at this restaurant is always great. The breakfast menu is interesting, and varied. I went for the eggs on toast with added steak. It came to round $40 in total. The steak was decent, and the rest of the food was enjoyable. However, value for money was on the low side.
Had our anniversary dinner here tonight - if we could give it 10 stars we would. From the service (thank you Katie for making us feel special on our anniversary) to the cocktails and the chefs tasting menu. Everything was an absolute knockout. We will be spreading the word and returning here very shortly.
We rented the library for a private event with 16 people. The communication with the manager and event coordinator was excellent in preparing for our event! The library itself is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect room for an event. We had food from the spring menu and can’t say enough good about it. The bison tartar was unique and delicious. Our mains were amazing, well proportioned and presented. Our one suggestion was to increase the service staff for our party. We had one server for most of the evening - who did an amazing job, but was definitely busy. During dinner service they added a second server and service was speedy. All in all, a wonderful experience and we’d definitely recommend this place for an important event.
What a lovely place! We opted for the high-tea option (ensure to book this in advance) but they also have menu options. Lovely venue and friendly staff. Wheelchair friendly with indoor and outdoor seating.

Nothing more than a casual dining experience. Nothing special. I do not know why this place is rated so high. Sure the food has fancy plating but there were a lot of fruit flies in the restaurant and all they serve is craft alcohol. The atmosphere is nice if you're looking for something open and airy but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner or anything. The restaurant is an old restored house which is nice if that's what you're looking for.
Last evening I had the pleasure of dining at the Deane House for my 65th birthday. The food and staff were amazing! They made my celebration so special with their extra little touches to detail. I would highly recommend the Deane House.
We went for jazz in the garden which was lovely. The band was amazing and made for a gorgeous evening. I would go back but only for drinks and appetizers. The hummus was incredible!! Mains- I didn’t love my plate it was just ok (lamb). For $50 / plate I expect to love my meal. The eggplant lentil thing was not good. Also, I would expect this caliber of restaurant to have freshly grated horseradish & lemon for oysters. That being said, the red wine vinaigrette was nice. I worked at a worse restaurant and even we had fresh grated horseradish.
Great place, food was amazing loved that they use stuff from their garden. Everything is fresh and delicious
Dinner
Very good dinner experience. Great space which is comfortable and cozy. Service was excellent as well. Can't wait to return.
We had a fabulous dinner the other night. We were one of only two couples in the restaurant yet the ambiance was warm and very inviting. Our food was outstanding. We started with oysters and the Sticky Beets which are a signature dish and they did disappoint. The lamb was an unexpected treat with three versions and the beef was delicious. Our server Katie was completely charming and worked very hard to make our evening special. We love it all!
Absolutely fantastic. We'll be going every time we visit Calgary. Upscale and a little pricey but the drinks are fantastic and the food is to die for. Beautiful view of the river as well.
New fall menu, another wonderful evening at Deane House! We dine at Deane House every couple of months and were there for dinner this week. They changed the menu for fall and there are a number of new items. We wanted to try as many new things as we could so we had four starters. We both had the masala mussels; delicious, a real rich taste without overpowering and the mussels were some the plumpest I have ever had…like they were hand picked. And the frites, as always, the best matchstick fries that mussels demand. I really like the selection of wines by the glass (we tried 4 different wines), full marks for the variety, quality and price range. The sun was just setting on a clear night and the city view from the veranda was like a picture postcard. Service at Deane House is just simply the best. We were served by Craig and Katy, they set the stage and put you right at ease. Everything in this restaurant just flows, tranquil and professional all the time Thank you DH staff / Laura & Randy
Fantastic food! Chef Jason is a culinary mastermind. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu from start to finish. Bonus that all the ingredients are locally sourced and each dish had at least one thing from their gardens! We had a lovely server for the evening as well - funny, relatable and attentive. Outdoor dining space had a fantastic ambiance with it being set into the gardens. Would definitely recommend coming here for any occassion (or just a nice meal out).
We booked a table at the Deane House outdoor gardens for my daughter’s birthday this year, and we were really looking forward to it. Her birthday happened to fall on the Friday of Stampede, so we made sure to book well in advance. We got a call on the Wednesday night informing us that our outdoor garden reservation would not be honoured because a larger party expanded their group and needed the table. They offered to give us a table inside, but that is not what we booked or wanted. So, we had two days warning to find a nice place that wasn’t already booked on the Friday of Stampede, just after everything opened up. The Deane House thought it was fine to prioritise someone else’s lack of planning over a reservation made well in advance for a special occasion. I will never go here, if you are reading this I hope you don’t either.
Great food and awesome waiter - highly recommend
Venue was beautiful, however, waiter forgot to write down our order the first time, and returned 15min later to inquire about it again. After that, they probably forgot to send it forward right away, so we waited over 45min to get our food. Pastries were dry, cold and hard (did not appear fresh). Food wasn't that great either for the price we paid and length of time we waited to be served.
Service
Went for our first tasting menu experience and it was excellent! It was our anniversary so they treated us to a little extra drink. Service was fantastic. Didn't feel super stuffy either - a great first experience, and the food was amazing. It's been a few days and we're still talking about how good it was!
Went for brunch with a friend, and the food was delicious but the portion was larger than I expected. Based off of some other reviews, I ate a bit ahead of time, but quickly realized it was a mistake. My only major complaint was how the glasses were covered in water spots, and my first glass still had lipstick on it from someone else, which indicates they aren’t throughly cleaned. The staff were understanding and quickly replaced it. Nevertheless, I would still recommend coming here!
Awesome experience all around, from the welcoming staff, clean historical vibe, and delectable local dishes. Each mouthful was bliss and portion size was generous. A big thanks to Chef Jason and a shout out to Chef Izzy for the impeccable table side service!

Had a really nice date night here a couple weeks back. The restaurant is very ornate with an old school charm to it (granted it is 100 years old). Creaky floors, cold upstairs bathrooms, really neat paintings decorating the walls. Soft jazz music, got to love a bistro vibe! Great classic cocktails with top shelf ingredients. But the food was the standout. Started with some of the best sourdough I have laid taste buds on. But the real star was the lamb, the lamb was unbelievable. Also, the attention to detail to each element of the dish and presentation was on par with the flavour. Gordon Ramsay himself would have been impressed. Would have like to know more about the history of the building, however our server was brand new and didn't know much of it yet, so we will learn more next time, as we will certainly be back. Thanks Deane House!
The tasting menu here is delicious and, for fine dining, reasonably priced. The garden is beautiful, parking is free and if you're into that sort of thing there is almost always a train to watch. My only problem was with the music. 60s and 70s pop at too loud a volume for the class of place this should be, given how good it looks and how fantastic the service and food were. Food: if for some reason you don't want to have the tasting menu, do yourself a favour and get something with the tuna in it...there was a beet and peach salad that incorporated tuna into the dressing which was divine. Drinks: fair to good wine pairings with an excellent coffee liqueur for dessert...likely means you'll be able to find something in their cellar that you'll enjoy
