The potato skins were great, the fries not great, the sandwich was bad. Bar was lacking in local beers on tap. Our waiter was wonderful. The music and live karaoke was so loud that we had to shout to hear or be heard. That volume is obnoxious under normal circumstances, but with covid going on the shouting just makes it dangerous. I'd give no stars, but the potato skins were rather good and our waiter was very sweet. I felt so bad for him having to work in such an environment.

I had my 50th birthday party here which was over 25 people. The service was on spot on, food was hot and delicious and most important beer was cold all night for the entire group. It was karaoke night which gave it a homey atmosphere. Thanks to Phil and Audrey who made it a perfect 50th!!

My friends and I had a wonderful lunch here. I had bangers and mash, great pub fare! My friends had homemade soup, sandwiches and salad, and talked about how much they enjoyed them. The server was pleasant, efficient and just attentive enough to be there when she was needed. We had plenty of time to sit and chat after we had finished our food. All in all, a great meal in a great place!

Good food, Good Beer, Excellent fries. Mondays are Trivia night and $7 for a pound of wings. Total bill was $36 for 2 pounds 2 pints of imports and a plate of fries. To me that is cheap. Almost as cheap as Sammy's on Wednesday night, plus you get trivia. I would definitely recommend.

Horrible experience. Bad service right from the start. Pop was flat. Ordered fish and chips, and they were burnt, over cooked, and the oil hadn’t been changed in quite sometime. Server never came to check on table. Very disappointed in the food. No rush to order this again.

First impressions of this place was not good . Very bright and empty. . The place is clean tho but lacks a good selection of alcohol . And a few good beers on tap. The menu is well balanced . The wings tho were absolutely amazing . Large crisp and awesome flavor I had the suicide . Staff is friendly and welcoming. Past the first impression it's a comfy little spot .

I had the fish & chips here last week and it was quite literally the worst meal I'd ever eaten out. The batter on the fish was soggy beyond belief - soggier than I thought possible - and many of the fries were still raw. Also on the plate was an obscene amount of peas that didn't taste fresh but were the best part of the meal. My friend got the chicken strips and caesar salad. The former burnt to a crisp and the latter swimming in sauce. My server was great but I won't be back.

The food was extremely subpar, the pasty and scotch pie were soggy and flavourless, the vegetables were limp, the mashed potatoes were chunky and cold, and the gravy tasted like a powdered premix. The only highlights were the beer (not made by them) and the fries. All for way too high a price. Do not recommend at all and the 4 star average rating and TripAdvisor recommendation is mindblowing to me.

terrible. The food was raw, the wine tasted like vinegar, the staff and owner treated us horribly, I ordered a glass of wine that tasted like vinegar, took one sip, told the “waiter” I didn’t want it because it was horrible, he took it away, and then they tried to make me pay for it, would only recommend coming here if you want to have the worst experience ever

Not impressed with the service or atmosphere of this place. Went for a dinner/ drinks for a celebration of life and we were put off by the wait staff who not only had troubles serving but also spilt a drink on my friend. And still charged us for it. The food was greasy and not very good at all. Not worth the 400$ spent. We had to make another arrangement for our celebration of life as we felt this was not a happy experience to celebrate someone's life.

I had lunch here recently; and the food was amazing. The portions were so big my friend and I could have shared a meal. We were so impressed with the food, that we returned a few nights later for appetizers. We were greeted with a fantastic host who let us know that appetizers were on special and all of them were delicious. We decided to try a variety of appetizers; and was very pleased with everything we ordered.

Last time we even had the pleasure of listening to one of the bands practice and let me tell ya they sounded great ! Today my daughter and I are suffering from a horrible flu bug and pnemonia and the only place I could think of that I even wanted to try getting food from was here .They dont deliver but they did help direct me towards a delivery company so thanks Rose and Thistle your potato soup and wrap was just what my daughter and I needed!

Tonight we went for 6.50$ wings and for the trivia... however it ended up not being a pleasant experience. we ordered a Tenants Beer on tap, which we take a sip and it was the worst tasting beer because it was so flat and was basically the end of the keg. We tell the surver that the beer doesn't taste right and that we would like another beer. Got new drinks, finished those & asked for another beer which it never came. We get our bill and they still charged us for the beer we didn't even get to drink and when we brought this up she went to speak to her manager which the manager said it's not the beer & that there is nothing wrong with it. Also that the keg does not get "flat" tasting when it's at the end of the keg. Oh she apparently tried the beer we sent back but she never did. We told the surver that we saw them change the keg. However manager said doesn't matter we are still paying for it. By the way she never came out to talk to us in person about this issue. Basically we were ripped off $13.50 for two beers we didn't drink because it was flat and foul. What happened to the customer is always right? Won't be going back for a while.

Just had lunch for the first time in this lovely little pub and was honestly amazed. Had a beef wrap with sautéed peppers and onions and a bottle of MGD. The wrap and fries came out within 10 minutes and we're both perfectly cooked. I am a chef by trade and this is the first time I've posted a review. I was that impressed. To put the experience over the top, they had live music to enjoy during my meal. A 3 piece acoustic group was the perfect fit to add to the atmosphere. When I got my bill it was $11.30. No, that's not a typo. Wrap and fries for $6. Domestic bottles for $4. I've been in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years and honestly, have never seen such value for the quality. I not only recommend the Rose and Thistle, but insist that anyone in the Brantford area check this place out. 6 out of 5!

My wife and I went the Rose & Thistle in Brantford for dinner after reading many of the reviews and thinking about supporting local businesses. This was our second time visiting this place after being very disappointed the first time we thought we would try again. The fish and chips came burnt and hard, the chips looked like they were reheated from lunch time. Needless to say I sent it back again. My wife had the saltiest steak and mushroom pie I had ever tasted. The owner was not concerned at all about our experience and it’s obvious they have no quality standards regarding the food they serve. They should be ashamed of the overpriced and awful food they serve. It is nothing like the food you get in England.

The food was over cooked on the outside and undercooked in the middle. The live music was so loud I couldn't even talk to my date without asking her to repeat herself twice. Tables are ridiculously small I had to put other stuff on chairs. All around a very unpleasant experience and will not be returning.

Went here after it came recommend It was my first weddings anniversary started out by ordering drinks and some type of mushrooms after being there for 45 minutes I started to feel very very sick We received our meals and I couldn’t even touch it I felt so sick Was sick for weeks and ER confirmed I had food poisoning most likely from the lime in my cocktail So thank you guys for ruining my first wedding anniversary

This is such an awesome spot! The food is phenomenal - best fish and chips in Brantford! - and the owners are the loveliest people. A nice little pub in the heart of Brantford. We had the roast beef and yorkshire pudding and the fish and chips. Both were well-prepared and very tasty. Very ample servings. Very friendly and helpful staff! Thanks Jodie. One constructive comment. It would be nice to have a few more UK oprions for draft beer and a few less domestic. You have some but more domestic than UK. It’s a British pub. You can gat away with more British beer. The menu has great pub options. We didn’t atay for the entertainment but we heard her warming up and it sounded promising.
