Driving to Sarnia with spouse fora business meeting and just by chance, googled to try and find something different than the regular Montana's, kelseys, keg etc. Lovely place, food was delicious!! Prime rib ,, vegetables & potatoes cooked to perfection and wonderful homemade horseradish!! Spouse had "mixed Grill' lamb and pork medallions, tasty vegetables cleaned his plate, completely! Portion sizes were generous and yet we still made room baklava. Yum! Service was greata! Definetly would go again!!
I ate at this restaurant for lunch while visiting Brantford. It is a converted school from 1872 and now offers very nice cuisine with black tie service. The facility can be used for large meetings, receptions, etc., although my visit was just for myself. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, despite the fact I was dressed casually. The interior of the facility has a wonderful ambiance to it, with light music playing in the background and an expansive layout, although there are areas where small groups can be seated.
Sunday Brunch is fantastic
love our anniversary at the old school house!
Amazing food atmosphere and the service is unbeatable
Very good food, was super friendly about accommodating for vegan options. Called in advance and the chef put together a delicious vegetable stir fry dish
Haven’t been here for some time. The meal was delicious best I’ve had in some time
Service is excellent atmosphere is excellent food very good. Owner present to greet customers and assure satisfaction
This our 4th consecutive Valentines Day at this awesome establishment. Fantastic food, wonderful staff and great live music make this our exclusive upper crust getaway. A gem in our backyard. Check it out soon!
Beautiful atmosphere in a restored old school house. Elegant dining. We attended a special event outside of regular hours and it was a lovely venue. Perfect for mingling while being offered hors d'oeuvres but plenty of seating available too. The hors d'oeuvres we're delicous and the fresh fruit tray was lovely. Spectacular service.
Overpriced, bad food in a nice setting. Service was not great.
Great atmosphere
That's where I work
One of the finest meals I've had in a very long time! Thank you Gus!
Cozy...classy...great food...awesome staff????
Our Maitre D was old school. I mean stern and very to the point perhaps maybe a little rude - just how a Maitre D should be. He gets 5 stars. I gave 4 stars because although my Lamb chops and Pork tenderloin was delicious my wife and friends were not too happy with their meals.
ate there last night and enjoyed the experience. wife had lobster tail and venicin and i had the rack of lamb. the portions were filling enough although the bill added up quickly. usually when i go to a restaurant like this i end up wishing i had just got a quarter pounder at mcdonalds however at the olde school i thought the food was very well prepared and tasted great. if i had to complain about something i guess the lighting in the restaurant was a bit too low.... bill was a bit too high...
I had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, service was impeccable. A great experience
Very beautiful and interesting interior. Food is top notch. I had the creamy seafood pasta and it is probably the creamiest I have ever had. It was full of shrimp and scallops perfectly done. Menu is quite extensive so you are sure to find something to tempt you!
Wonderful dining experience with delicious food and superb staff.
Fine dining at its best. Great food with a great atmosphere.
Dinner
Best meal I've ever had. Great cocktails, awesome atmosphere. No better place to bring a date or a family member. Will be back soon
The staff were wonderful and attentive, and the meal was delicious! The venison and lobster tail is incredible. The staff even based where they seated us based on it being a 2nd date. The atmosphere is unique and interesting, yet very classy.
Tremendously accommodating, Provided us with a private patio seating in the back. The service was impeccable and the food was out of this world. Highly recommend it to anyone.
The 5 star restaurant was incredible. The prime rib was delicious, the French Onion soup was incredible and the dessert was delightful. The service was beyond reproach and I will be back again for my 10th wedding anniversary this year.
Was here tonight at the olde school restaurant for my one year anniversary with my girlfriend. Besides the excellent meal, the service is impeccable. Our waiter was courteous, prompt, and funny. The other waitresses were amazing as well, our cups were never empty and we were never waiting for water. The owner politely greeted us on the way out. Definitely brantfords gem for fine dining. Thanks guys!
Always a pleasurable fine dining experience. Exceptional ambiance, food & service. Definitely "A Class Act".
New years eve, 2 sittings, we took the first at 530. We were seated quickly where they had squished in as many tables as possible which made it awkward to get into and away from our table. Service was generally quick although very impersonal like we were just piecework, get us in and out. The food was good like 6 out of 10. Not a great experience but not horrible either.
food is always great, prices reflect finer dining experience of course. Brunch buffet selection not massive but food good and price is acceptable for the location and atmospehere
The Queen of England ate here, do I need to say more?! Always a pleasure to dine at The Olde School Restaurant. To enjoy a piano bar in this day and age is an added pleasure. The food, the ambiance, and the service are always on point. It was the perfect spot for our Valentine's Dinner. Of course, a day early, as I'm in the Hospitality Industry myself ;)
Fantastic night! Great service and amazing food!!
Quite an experience!
Meal type
The food was good but not exceptional and my feeling is that it’s overpriced for what it is. This is essentially casual dining with linen. There is some atmosphere with live music but it wasn’t worth the premium they charge for it. There is much better value elsewhere.
This place was amazing. Would be great for a group event if you really want to dress up and go out! Great service. We were the only ones there for lunch on a Thursday.
Great ambiance. Good food. Upscale
Company of Women Networking was great. We had an amazing dinner.
This is the second time we have been here as we wanted to give it a fair shake after our first experience. I had a Cesar salad and Filet Mignon and my wife had shrimp pasta which contained possibly the smallest shrimps I've ever seen. The salad was not worth anywhere near the $11 we paid for it. Bland Renes dressing and small dry bacon bit crumble. The Filet Mignon was good and cooked properly, but all of the sides were completely bland and without flavor. After our 2 visits I think the food here is aimed at seniors who are wildly offended by any sort of flavor. The live entertainment was interesting. If you've ever been to a party were someone's mom got into the wine and then found a piano and started making attempts at modern songs you can start to picture what you're in for here. In summary the food is wildly overpriced, bland, and the atmosphere would make nursing home residents feel quite at home. If you're looking for good food try the Aberfoyle Mill. If you want to avoid any sort of sensations on your taste buds while someone's mother butchers Ed Sheeran and Stevie Wonder then this place is for you.
Ambiance is nice, very slow to take order bring food, etc.
Tasty special, great service.
Awesome time ! Thank you so much Sue and Peter Watson xxxx
Classic old world steakhouse. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing brunch great atmosphere 10/10 will definitely be returning
Great service food and experience
Great venue for my husbands 70th birthday!
A very odd dining experience. The live music was very loud and uncomfortable. Anxious service. Tacky decor. Menu is way overpriced. Some of the food was okay, at best. Seafood soup tasted like chicken noodle, steak was over cooked, salad dressing tasted like Kraft
Best brunch going and the food Choices were all good.I would definitely recommend it
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food
Service is really nice and the atmosphere as well
Great restaurant. Staff is amazing
First time back in about 10 years, still great personal service, relaxing atmosphere, and of course, great food and drink.
Have been coming here for over 20 years. Great nostalgic atmosphere. Wonderful professional service. Gus and Louigi makes everyone feel welcomed and special. Great venue also for hosting meetings
Breakfast selection not to great
Juan is usually our waiter when we go... Excellent service. Always a fantastic dinner...
Excellent old style steak house. Great food, attentive service. Worth the drive.
First time and was pleasantly surprised. Main courses were pricey so went with pasta dish. Spaghettini was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Local baked bread brought to table and wait staff was quick and friendly. Decor was somewhat dated and cluttered but also cozy with a touch of history. This is certainly the best choice for quality dining in that region.
Great dinner. Beautiful setting. Service quite good!
Great place
Good Food and Great Service.
Beautiful atmosphere, the service was very good and the food was amazing too. Thank you for the beautiful Valentines Day dinner!!
Great service and buffet style food
Awesome my favorite restaurant in the area
Amazing. Our server was awesome she was new to the team yet made our anniversary night so so special. was very formal and extremely elegant. Had 4 course and each one fabulous, great wine list, she severed Italian house, excellent time ! Thanks Nicky
This restaurant is a hidden gem full of charm, with the enviable claim of "the queen ate here". What makes it a gem though is the combination of phenomenal food and service. We chose to have an early Christmas dinner complete with all the fixings. Everything from the soup, to the turkey, to the stuffing (incredibly good) and ending with the pumpkin tartlet was simply amazing.
We had a huge family gathering here. The food and service were both excellent. Highly recommend it
Great food service price portions everything just awesome highly recommend if in the area
Very nice, old school atmosphere with excellent food. Great if you're not in a hurry and want to enjoy a nice meal
We brought a large group of students to this restaurant and they gave the students a five star experience. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The price was amazing - we really appreciate them meeting our budget. Thank you!
Terrific Service!
Had the onion soup for an appetizer, nearly cried it was so good. Followed by Steak Neptune. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Excellent food and top notch service. The building is very old and interesting. May need a "welcome to the 2020s" update as the menu is of poor quality (I could have made a better one) and so is the cutlery. I may be nitpicking but with the prices youd expect better quality.
Very good atmosphere for Valentine's day food is really good and service is top notch. We have been 13 of the last 15 years . We will be back .
Excellent brunch
Best service we have had at any restaurant ever. We will be going back very soon.
I have eaten at the school house about 8 times over the years .I enjoy the good service , the excellent surroundings .my rating would have been a four to four and a half before my visit on Feb 4 2020 but I found the quality of the food not up to the standard I have come to expect from this establishment .our group spent at least 500 on dinners and drinks for 7 .I will think again before my next visit.
My wife and I booked a reservation for dinner at 6 PM yesterday. It was truly a wonderful experience! From the moment we entered this fine dining establishment, we were greeted by friendly, smiling staff...who truly exemplified excellant customer service. We had the pleasure of meeting Juan who helped us with the menu and recommended our eventual meal choices. He was very respectful, friendly and obviously knowledgeable about the history of this great establishment. Indeed, when we were preparing to leave, he took the time to explain the history of this place as well as to point out that the Queen herself also visited here....noting the chair she actually sat in... My wife and I were celebrating our 35 year anniversary as well as her birthday . We couldn't have made a better choice! Thank you for the great experience!
It's always a special treat to go to Gus and his brothers place. Gracious, relaxed and the food is second to none. If you want to be pampered the Olde School House is the place to go.
Consistently good for getting food and doing business.
A great fine dining establishment to visit when you are in the Brantford area. The interior of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The food is cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the prime rib which was delicious. The old school chocolate cover mousse is a must have. I would definitely go here again.
We had the most amazing dinner after our wedding rehearsal in July. Also, the cozy and antique atmosphere topped our experience! We will definitely be back for more delicious food and memories.
What an amazing experience! I loved the antique atmosphere, there was so much to look at all around, it felt very cozy. The service was absolutely fantastic. Our server was on top of everything, and very attentive, while still allowing our space to relax and enjoy our meals. The food was incredible. The calamari was so flavourful, the prime rib and filet mignon were amazing, even the soup and salad starters were delicious! We will certainly be back again! Thank you for a great evening.
Food is good and staff is nice. Why no Quebec flag?
Wonderful place, food is exceptional always a great experience. Gus and his staff are great .
Service
Service was great. Had the Brunch Buffer. For the cost, the selection was good. Would have enjoyed a larger bread selection and some bacon. The peameal bacon tasted boiled or steamed.
Great food great atmosphere if I could afford it I would go more than anniversary or birthday
Delightful dining.
Service
My partner and I had our anniversary dinner here and oh my, were we ever blown away by the atmosphere, the decor, the attention to detail; the cocktails were perfectly mixed and the food was well worth the price of admission. Our waiter was very friendly and professional, and they even gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. It was pricey, but I understood that going in; I felt I got what I paid for. Thanks for making it special, Olde School!
Old hertage culture nice service
Amazing service!
Still excellent as usual great service wonderful food and loved the chocolate mouse desert
Worst brunch in Brantford. Staff are extremely rude. Running on a reputation that they had 30 years ago. Don’t waste your time or money.
Received fresh homemade bread(2) to start off the sitting. Everything was in a timely manner. Didn't order from the appetizer list thinking the order from the main menu would be enough. Ordered the cream of mushroom that came with the chicken cordon bleu. Meal was filling so barely finished dessert. Would like to try the Sunday brunch next time. Take a gander at their menu before going to see if the pricing is something in your range.
Gosh is this place ever beautiful. Such interesting history and the decor backs it up! Well priced too. I came for brunch and it was just the sweetest morning. The buffet isn’t huge but the food is great, and the staff were some of the most attentive I have ever encountered. So professional. I can’t wait to come back and bring everyone I know :)
My wife and I went to the restaurant for our 10th anniversary last night. I guess I mentioned the reason for the visit when I made the reservation as they arranged a special dessert and the pianist played a special song for us. It made the night very special on top of amazing food!
Wonderful evening out on the patio
Very nice restaurant
Upscale dining in Brantford. Always enjoyable.
Prime rib was delicious. Attended a wedding reception here servers were friendly and decor beautiful
Food was great, cool atmosphere
Awesome
Great food and courteous staff.
Had an excellent experience with my family for our daughters birthday brunch celebration. We’ve been coming here for many years and have never been disappointed.
As usual very good Benn going for years
Upscale dining with many choices to choose from. Able to accommodate larger parties even in your own private room. 3 dinner specials were available when we went had a pickerel dinner which was superbly done and melted in your mouth and no bones it came with a shrimp cocktail perfectly chilled and good sized shrimp, vegetable medley perfectly done and started with scallops as an appetizer was thoroughly impressed. Others had chicken cordon Bleu, NY steak, venison with lobster tail, everyone's dinner was excellent, many many other dinner selections to chose from making it a hard decision all looked good. Returned for brunch buffet with party of 40. Good selection plus chef making omelets to your personal order. There is a piano player playing soothing music and also takes requests. Truly amazed at cocktail and beer list. Cost is pricey but excellent service and food make it worth while.
Top notch food and unparalleled service. The Olde School House thrives on the details that make your experience unique and memorable. Truly a fine dining gem.
Good food.
Service excellent ...food good but not outstanding!
Amazing
Always a great meal at this classic restaurant. Enjoy the awesome lamb chops!
Excellent food, great service, not a quick place, expect to spend at least 2 hours. Old school decor with good ambiance
Top notch
Very nice place. Drinks are strong, food was good and staff is friendly.
We spent Sunday morning at The Olde School Restaurant on 2020-01-20 for Sunday brunch. Our server was Juan and we also had waitress. There were 6 adults in our group. Juan was non stop serving all of us with juice and drinks while the waitress was on top of the coffee. Food was good and fresh and plenty to choice for everyone. Omelette was made in front of us and delicious. Thanks Gus and Juan and team for making it special for the kids birthday Brian
Was there for the Sunday brunch my omelette was undercooked other food was just average, alot of moneycpuld have abetterbteakfast cheaper some where else.I wont be returning.
Pretty good fine dining restaurant for the area. Their service is amazing.
Great food great service
The food hear is fantastic!
Excellent omelettes made to order while you wait. Pianist tickling the ivories. Pictures of the Queen's visit and your very own report card.
Fantastic! Great food, great service. Annual Nov 11th luncheon was wonderful.
Food was ok. Price is too high for this quality of meals. Place is nice and interesting. We waited for service too long. It's supposed to be a fancy classic restaurant with great, not rush flow, but it is too much slow.
Excellent service. Had prime rib that was cooked to order and nicely seasoned. We were personally greeted by the owner at the door.
Great service and food.
The breakfast buffet was good, nice live piano music and fancy atmosphere.
My daughter surprised me with dinner at the Olde School House Restaurant. The service was very upscale and their Provini Veal liver entre was the best I've ever had. They presented me with their signature "chocolate school mouse" dessert, which was absolutely exquisite. Would certainly go again!
Great food absolutely amazing been there only twice not close to my house but if you are close definatly worth the stop.
Best restaurant in the area
Delicious oysters and lamb! Bit of a drive but if you keep your intake legal, you're in for a real treat!
Beautiful old interior, very classy. Perfect service, very good food.
Lunch
Excellent food
Nice place to dinne
Great restaurant out of the way, but worth the drive. I was traveling and was staying at a hotel close by. Took a chance with few reviews, and it was a pleasant classy place with old school house charm. Great food too.
Best food---BEST service, and wonderfully Decor. ????
Beautiful location, as it was an old schoolhouse. Food was excellent, we had the Sunday brunch. There was a great spread of food, and we enjoyed the build your own omlette, prepared in front of you. They also had an pianist quietly playing a grand piano in the corner. Very historic location, and in fact the Queen of England had lunch there in 1997.
Delicious food.
Power to the building went out. No fault of theirs and they did an excellent job working through the outage. However, why no emergency lighting at the exits? Why no emergency lighting for the stairwell to basement washroom?
Food was dated. Not my favorite but my mom really liked it.
Great food and friendly service
This is no ordinary restaurant. The difference is the location, menu, music and management. It reminds me of the Town Casino in Buffalo. - a nightclub. The Casino disappeared over 65 years ago but I think it came back in Brantford.
Old world in the middle of nowhere. Interesting place decor... Food old school heavy on fat and cream. Very expensive almost NY prices.
Amazing place...awesome service
Always the best tasting food. Always the best service in a very unique venue.
Take your time and relax. No rush dining, old school (pun intended). Well prepared food and the staff leave you feeling appreciated and comfortable
Owner is a complete jackass! Called to book it after reading the reviews we decided to book elsewhere. He did not like that and continued to call us yelling, swearing and calling us names. He continued to harass us for hours even up until 40 minutes after he closed. He is a very rude man with zero customer service and should be out of business the way he conducts himself
Love the ambiance and the food. Must try.
The best restaurant we have been to in a long time . Fantastic food! Great service! We liked it so much we are booking our Company Christmas Party There ! Highly recommend this place to everyone!
Always great food and service.
Meal type
Dining at the Old School is always lovely. The food is always delicious! The staff are very professional and the service is always great.
Service was good but food was so-so. Side salad for a 10 ounce prime rib was literally ungarnished lettuce, for example. The meat was decent. No semi-sweet reds on the wine list
No downside here. Beautiful old building. Something for everyone on the menu. Meal cooked to perfection and very well presented. Service exceptional. A great restaurant.
Loved it! Just the restaurant itself is worth the visit! What a beautiful well thought decor they got! It's like going back in time in a classy small town! Food was well presented and quite tasty, from the bread to the dessert. Service was very attentive and professional. At one of the corners, there's a beautiful bar area surrounding a beautiful piano. I'm sure those nights with life music are memorable. Great great place! Go visit!
best place ever
Food was delicious and the staff superb. The two hour wait for our main course was disappointing.
Great food and ambiance, excellent service.
It was a beautiful place, the service was awesome and food was good !
Decent food great service but horribly dated and tired menu went there with family on Friday . the food was tasty but the Queen came to the restaurant in 1998 and It’s frozen in time since . the decor is old and dated and frankly tacky and the food was too I don’t think they have changed the menu in 20 years. for the price they charge I wouldn’t ever go there it’s just not worth it. If they updated and modernized the menus I’d give it 4-5 stars but value for money and a great dining experience it’s only a 1.5 or 2 stars
Good place to go if you're rich
Myself and my wife are both teachers and we couldn’t of been more excited to dine at “The Olde School Restaurant” for a family celebration. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not live up to the hype. The decor is outdated, but not in a classy way as you would hope. The serving staff’s service was also very “Olde School” but not in a good way. They only asked the males at the table if they wanted a refill on their beverages and ignored all the women. A family member was also rudely called out by a server for not using the correct spoon for the appetizer. The prime rib was mediocre but accompanied with a very high price. The dessert was a soggy strawberry chocolate cake. It tasted like that description sounded. Additionally, when another family member asked to change their dessert before it’s arrival they said, “Sure for an additional charge.” Wow! Lastly, after being served coffee upon asking for a refill , the server made it seem like we were a great inconvenience to them. If I were to grade the Olde School Restaurant on a report card I would give it a D-. With all the other great options in the area, I would not recommend going here and instead spending good money in exchange for a good dining experience.
Amazing
Came here with a group and had a great time. Despite being at capacity the service was provided at a steady pace and food was - mi gusta mucho.
Food is absolutely amazing! Huge portions, staff treats you like royality. This is truly Brantford/Paris hidden gem. Best Tira Misu I ever had in my life. Will definately be back.
Incredible staff and incredible food!
Beautiful restaurant The food is good too.
Now the food, the moist brisket was great!! Fat was rendered beautifully and just makes you want more. The ribs are fantastic and best description I can come up with is meat candy! It's addictive! The jalapeño cheddar grits and Mac were great! Overall, the food is awesome. Smoky, moist & savory brisket. Ribs were tastier with a hint of spice & sweetness. Better than Hutchins. Almost identical in taste to Pecan Lodge but a tad behind Franklin's BBQ in Austin. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone that will listen!
Fantastic prime rib
One of my favourite places! I have used this restaurant for office functions, fundraising dinners, and simply for my own enjoyment. Gus is a gracious and lovely Host. I highly recommend this establishment.
Pleasant experience
I’ll describe further why the service was atrocious.
If you are a person of colour, just don't go there. I can't forget those looks from the restaurant manager and other caucasion folks around and his tone just because I thought it's a casual restaurant and entered in a casual dress. Just because Queen dine there, doesn't make it special. Btw, your restaurant need some serious repairs and renovations; so does your attitude. I would like to share a famous business quote for the owners of this restaurant; "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you make them feel" - Maya Angelou
Excellent service from all employees!
2nd attempt at this restaurant. It started with the manager/owner reprimanding the young hostess for seating us in a table that was meant for people that arrived before us. She said she only went by what was written in the reservation...not her fault. Menu WAY overpriced for what you get. My Greek salad was swimming in vinegar. My shrimp in my pasta was salad shrimp size and overcooked. My husband got ripped off when his dinner was supposed to include a salad or soup and he didn't get either because he ordered a small Caesar salad and was charged the full price for that. We assumed they would take a few $ off his salad. Nope! The music and decor is great if you are 80yrs old. Would not recommend and will not go again. If you want a 5 star restaurant, try the Aberfoyle Mill. Worth the drive!
Great food! The Music is great and there is LOTS to choose from at the menu. It cost quite a bit though, but totally worth it
Nice staff and good food!!
Wonderful food, great service
Buffet style Sunday breakfast Chef made omelettes right before your eyes orange juice coffee fine dining the queen even ate here highly recommend this place for breakfast
Great food. Service was a little slow
The line ups are very long. And while waiting in line the waitress asked to go back and have a seat until the line gets shorter. Terrible service..... To top things off, 20% gratuity added to bill. I can't even show my displeasure... I will never be back.
Ecellent food , atmosphere and service
The best dining experience in 3 counties+.
The Olde School Restaurant hosted a reception for us 2 yrs ago after my mother's interment at Holy Cross cemetery down the road and again recently for my dad. Both times the spread of food they provided was excellent and the service was professional and friendly. I'd recommend them for any such event and wouldn't hesitate to go there for lunch or supper. Great spot!
Wonderfully accomodating during a Thanksgiving dinner with my elderly grandmother and frail mother. Josh was a fantastically attentive waiter, the food was excellent, and the live piano performance captivated my mother. We will most definitely return...
We came for Sunday brunch and were not disappointed. The service was excellent, with the staff quick to help without being overbearing. The selection was fine, without being overwhelming. We plan on coming back!
It is a classic steak house! Great staff, good food and classic atmosphere!
Had the Sunday brunch, very few items to choose from,my wife's omelette was undercooked as were the scrambled eggs food is just ok seems all your paying for is service and a piano player,I will not be returning not will I recommend this restraint.
God's honest truth - this is the best fine dining restaurant in the area or beyond! no wonder queen came here! servers, cooks, atmosphere - all very professional! feels expensive but fair!
Staff are super hard working and dedicated to exceptional service. Great long standing experience
Unique dining experience with old decor. Live entertainment is amazing, the pianist is extremely talented. Food was just okay, and service was on the slower side.
Really disappointed. Mushroom soup was gelatinous thickened with cornstarch and made with canned mushrooms. Roast beef sandwich was a fatty thick hunk of beef. Lovely historic building. Service was efficient and a bit officious.
We had a very lovely lunch. Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The decor is really gorgeous, lots to look at!
Excellent restaurant and fine dining experience although very pricey
Always awesome food ???? and excellent service!!
A great atmosphere. I must say, as we approached the restaurant, it being in a peculiar area, we were somewhat curious as to what was in store for us! The service was great from start to finish. Extensive drink menu to start you off, as well as what appeared to be an established list of mains. The prime rib looked like a great cut but clearly was placed under a lamp for sometime. We were a large group, so that much is understandable, I guess. I would definitely return with a smaller group!
Very interesting old school house in a rural setting, with unique decor and style. The staff was overdressed and a little pretentious with the tux/ bow ties but were very kind and seemed to lighten up. The menu was inflexible with options, but the food was really good. Beef mushroom soup was very good, the bread came with a salmon spread that was a little strange, but the lamb chops were delicious. The dinner was pricey, especially for the area, but all in all very good.
such a interesting place and history and food and service were great
Fantastic food with friendly staff
Loved the service and the food. Our server was such a gentleman.
The indoor dining experience is amazing. Food is good but a little overpriced. Piano bar is a very nice touch. Always a good time
Superb food and dining experience. Meat lovers should definitely try the prime rib.
Went for mothers day brunch. We were lucky enough to be seated early so we were able to get a plate of food at the buffet. The eggs Benedict were awful, the egg was hard boiled and the hollandaise was so vinegary. By the time I was ready for more the lineup for the buffet was to the entrance. I realize it is mothers day and it's extra busy but you would think they might expand the buffet to accommodate the larger crowd. Regardless the food really isn't that great for the price, I've had better breakfast at Angels dinner.
Was fantastic great
Disappointed in he food. Waiter was nice and helpful.
A classic. Everytime it exceeds expectations.
Went for a wedding. It's a beautiful place
Very good food in a comfortable atmosphere. Our waitor was excellent
Great food and ambiance
Good brunch buffet at a decent price.
Always a pleasure to visit this wonderful treasure of the continental dining era. Fabulous service. Dim and romantic. A marvellous time capsule. And, Thursday to Sunday--the rarest of rare--a live piano bar with the terrific John Moorhouse. Do yourself a favour and go sit up at the piano after dinner.
Good
The service was beyond reproach! Absolutely fantastic, we will be back!
The worst brunch I've experienced in several decades. The food was very basic; lacked flavor and freshness. The presentation of the food was poor The atmosphere is very "tired" and dated. The staff were competent but not focused on service and they were not very friendly. Will not return
Limited brunch buffet. No carving station. Terrible variety of cheese. No olives or pickles. Roast beef is dry over cooked and sitting in a warming tray. Disappointing. Felt like a selection for Gramma and Gramps. Won't be back.
Amazing place, Amazing food outstanding Service
All I can say is it is well worth a trip to Ontario for.
The peppercorn steak dinner and venison / lobster tail dinner were perfectly cooked and delicious! And there's no one who does escargot or the chocolate mouse better! Thank you Gus for an amazing dinner..
Great service!! Great food!!
Not a fan of the food. smelt weird. heard they COVID outbreak. not good. wont be back. the chocolate mice for desert are pretty good though.
We attended a friend's wedding reception. The atmosphere, food, service were all excellent. Enjoyed the experience very much.
Very attentive and pleasant. Impeccable service and the food was perfect. This photo is my meal, Venison Medallions.
good all around experience
Food and service were amazing. Best Prime Rib I like well done and still so tender and melts in your mouth. Well done. Thank you Nick.
Excellent food and service
Food and atmosphere was excellent. Our service was top notch.
Fancy dining Enjoyable place for most occasions Romance / Celebration /Family Company
Excellent
What an amazing place. Second time coming here and all I can say is wow. Mouth watering, burst tasting flavors. Staff is so friendly and inviting. Can't wait to go back again.
Amazing food. Will definately go back.
Went there this evening with a group of 8. Reservations for 7pm, and as we are close to Christmas, we expected it to be busy. And it was. We were seated promptly, water and bread served quickly by the bussing staff. Then the derailment of the evening began. After 15 minutes, our waiter came for our drink orders. There were no menus given, so being a larger group we had to ask several times what was available. Throughout the evening, we had to ask for service for more than just water as nothing was offered. Another half hour or so passed before our waiter returned for our food orders. It took another half hour to get out appetizers and our meals didn't arrive until 930. Did I mention we arrived at 7? Food arrived. Steaks were cooked properly, pork was tender and well flavoured. Lamb was over cooked, and abysmally small portions. I ordered the shrimp and scallops, and that was a mistake. These were clearly precooked/frozen shrimp and scallops that were sauteed to plate. Balls of rubber. A dozen pieces of rubber. For $30. Took another half hour to clear our plates and get the dessert orders in. Pecan pie that I'm fairly certain came out of a box. Mousse and cheese cakes were also ordered. We then waited for the bills. We asked the bussing staff for our bill as it appeared to only be one waiter working, my wife tells me there may have been another. The busser informed us that we had to wait for our waiter to receive the bills. We ended up paying ours at 10:50. That's four hours after we arrived. They added on their generous 16% gratuity, and thankfully we paid cash so we didn't have to wait for their single debit machine. Then we stood at the coat check for ten minutes until someone showed up after we spoke to a nearby bartender. A true fine dining experience. Save your sheckles and go somewhere else.

Food was good service was good. A little pricy
Elegant place.. Had my small wedding dinner there (10 people)
Excellent food and excellent service.
Amazing meal and atmosphere. Beautiful piano music and our waitress, Morgan, was wonderful!
Super service great pianist.
I had a lovely time. Great food. Good service.
Yeah, needs a breath of fresh air. Great service, staff and food. But the place is dusty and olde. So much potential.
Very good!
Absolutely beautiful, old school fine dining restaurant. Food and service was impeccable. Will definitely return.
Dinner at the Old School House was awesome. Food and service well worth the price. Great ambience, service and attention to detail.
Over Priced for food that's really not that good. They market the fact that the queen apparently dined here once. I'm sure she threw up afterwards
Excellent everything! From the food, to the servers. Top notch!
Sort of felt dinner with the Addams Family. Food wasn't anything special. Piano is nice.
The service and ambient lighting made for a very relaxing night out.
Always a classic eatery
Much too expensive for the quality of the food. great service
The Olde School is a fantastic destination point for a fantastic evening of proper dining and fantastic atmosphere and great music at the piano bar with the John Moore...one of our favourite places to frequent for an amazing evening!
Anniversary And awesome brunch
Staff is friendly and attentive, food was good but surprised at the draconian style menu. No substitute for salads? Only mashed potato option. I was a little shocked they didn't go out of the way to make exceptions on simple items. Ended up putting a damper on the evening.
Fabulous meal and quality service
I always love coming here personally and organizing group functions here. Great food and service. Portions could be a little bigger but all-in-all a great place to eat!
excellent food
This restaurant was unique dining experience that I have never experienced in southwestern Ontario. I used to think that the Keg and Chop Steak House, even the Elm Hurst Inn was fine dining until I came here. The building itself has been beautifully maintained to keep the historic features, even the artwork on the walls in some of the hallways were from kids drawings with dates '73, '61. The staff was very professional, our waiter had been working there for 26 years! The food was delicious, with menu items that you don't see at other places in the area and an extensive wine list. I had the chef's dinner with lobster tail and venison medallions. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and the prices were comparable to the previously mentioned restaurants. We will most definitely be returning again in the future, I can't wait to try some of the other dishes.
The atmosphere, food and service was excellent. Highly recommend this place. Very memorable. I really enjoyed the chocolate mouse for dessert.
First time we had a complete take out meal from this restaurant. We were not disappointed!!
Great staff. Great food.
(Translated) A very special place. Very good quality dishes and very nice staff. (Original) Un posto del tutto particolare. Piatti di ottima qualità e personale molto gentile.
Upscale dining at its finest. Professional service. Extremely good classic food. Enjoyed my dinner immensely. Highly recommend for any special occasion. Have even served the Queen in 1997!
Upscale fine dining, great hospitality, the food is not bad ,but still lot of rooms for improvement.
Horrible food and service !
Always a treat. Food is great. Love that there is always a different spread for bread. Piano music is a nice relaxing touch. Appetizers are over priced for quality. Would probably be better quality if they sold more. Lowering the price would probably help do that ???? Everything else is great. Love the atmosphere and the history in the building.
Excellent service as always. Gus always remembers us. Highly recommended will not be disappointed.
stayed at our fav bnb in Paris and Olde School is a real treat!!!!!! :-)
Showed up on a Thursday night and it was closed at 7 pm no signs nothing
Meal type
Always great! Good quality and atmosphere.
Excellent food and impeccable service!
Always an excellent experience! The food always meets your expectations! The service is outstanding!
Celebrated our 20th Anniversary here, great atmosphere Love the piano bar, pairs great with the location. Food was amazing. Steak was cut with a butter knife, will definitely be back again.
We visited this place for my grandparents 50th anniversary. The owner and staff are awesome. They did everything they could to make our experience great. My sister has quiet a few eating restrictions and they accommodated them all. The staff are friendly, quick and polite. The food was amazing, a little pricey but worth it.
The food was excellent, the service was personal and professional all in one. Will return without question.
Expensive and unfortunately bad food. Only advertise is the queen was eating there at one point. The chicken supreme was a chicken suprised, deep fried chicken and sauce looked like out of the can. Only good point was the waiter which was very nice and brought us many times to laugh, this covered a little bit the bad parts of the experience. It was the third time over several years and nothing changed, three times disappointed, wouldn't suggest to go there.
Very elegant. Dinner was very good. Service was good.
You can always count on great service and food
Great meal!
Great place to dine. The owner is a gentleman!
perfect omelettes everytime, and I leave stuffed barely walking, hot delicious and great dessert bar
Very dated in all aspects
Excellent food and prompt friendly service. Plan to go again! Only problem for us was the steps carrying our plates.
Gave it 2 tries. First was just ok. Meat was overcooked and wait staff waited until the meal was finished before they asked how it was. Second time same thing. Overcooked and everything was lukewarm. Wait staff was awful. We waited forever for everything. Wont go back.
It was my first time there and was not disappointed! Super tasty food, excellent customer service and pretty cool ambience.
This place is not for the faint of wallet. The food is always great, the atmosphere is piano bar esk, refined without being ostentatious. The wait staff is very attentive and you shouldn't show up in jeans, you will feel out of place. Business casual or better is my suggestion. Figure about $ 70 per person, sans drinks, on average. Worth every cent.
Been here a couple times. Once for my mother's and stepdad's wedding, and once for my mom's and stepdad's anniversary. Good food and service, but overly priced for the portions they serve.
First time having dinner here, as well as my wife. There was not a thing we didn't love while attending this wonderful restaurant. Our meal was wonderful, without fault. Marvellous soup, fresh bread and our main meals. Wait staff were all helpful and attentive. Lovely information about the old schoolhouse received from our generous attendant. Enjoyed knowing the current Queen of England ate there. They have even marked the chair where she sat and have it sitting at the very table she dined from. We could find no fault. Truly looking forward to this pandemic being over and all returning to normal. Everyone, at this fine restaurant, has our safety in mind. Upscale and worth every dollar.
Great food, great service and Covid measures in place.
No complaints here. We were delayed on the way to Jamaica, and on the way back. Delays on the way there could have been avoided if Swoop staff were a bit more vigilant regarding a passenger carrying an inflated soccer ball. Over all, an OK experience. Price and convenience make the shortfalls worth it. We were a party of 6. Service was great, food was great, absolutely not complaints. We scheduled a later meal, which gave us a quieter atmosphere. Food was served on a timely basis.
Great high calibre restaurant with good menu and brunch service on Sunday. Consistent food and service for at least the past 20 years. Once served the queen.
Stopped in for an early dinner. I sat at the bar and was waited on by the owner and staff. Everyone is very personable and take the utmost care. The food is very good. I was served hummus with fresh bread, the hummus was amazing, made in house fresh. I had a my strip with fresh vegetables, absolutely amazing.
Good food, Good service
Enjoyed a lovely dinner for our anniversary. Great atmosphere and awesome food...portions were generous!
Great food and wonderful service
Malbec oysters were great today. Escargot were fine. Caesar salad dressing was a little weak and watery. Seafood fettuccine garlic sauce was awesome with a good seafood flavour, but some scallops were a little overcooked. Venison medallions with a sweet sour cherry and tomato compote was terrific. Potato soup was very good. Lemon sorbet was a nice treat. Vanilla cake was good
Went for Sunday brunch. The food was absolutely amazing for a buffet style service and I love how orange juice was included into the buffet price. The place was very clean and well kept with lots of charm. We really enjoyed the live piano music too.
The only thing good about this experience was that we were given a private room. The buffet was terrible. We were seated at 1:30, and the food was being taken away just past 2:00. I had to ask them to bring the salad and rolls back out as half of our table did not have a chance to have any before they were shuffling the food back into the kitchen. And I am still wondering what the meat was that was in the "tray of water", as my 10 year old nephew so eloquently put it. Was it ham? Was it peameal bacon? Who knows? So after raw omelettes, mystery meat and a half hour limit to get a plate at the buffet... I offer you two great big thumbs down!!!
Staff was attentive. Nice, soft piano music was warming up the atmosphere. Food was nice presented and very tasty except the "lamb" which by the size and taste was sheep, fat and hard to chew. Wine selection is not great.
Wonderful hidden gem. Upmarket menu filled with classics. Lovely historic school remodeled to be a fine dining restaurant with several private rooms. Food is well executed and beautifully presented. Mussels are exquisite - don't miss them when you visit. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, dined here in 1997.
Great food and wonderful staff. Always a great evening!
Nice place to go. They will give you a private area if you request it and make a reservation. It’s definitely high on the cost vs. Quality scale.
Warm environment, good food, perfect staff????
Great place to eat as always food is always amazing
Fancy and a bit pricey, food great, if the Queen of England ate here (1998), you can as well. Service, decor excellent. Give it a go. Casual dress.
Upscale and very good!
Awesome anniversary dinner. You must got to this place!
Nicest restaurant in Brantford. Yeah you pay a premium, but it's got top notch service, live music and it's a great steakhouse experience!
Take out
I wasnt there
Of course its expensive....its FINE DINING!! Always great food and ambience. My favorite restaurant!!! :) Also great for large groups for celebrating that special occasion!! Gus always accommodates.
Dine in
Fantastic.
Service was amazing. My wife was obsessed with the butter, everything was delicious we had the greek bruschetta, filet mignon and fettuccine Alfredo. Amazing all around.
This restaurant is truly the hidden gem of Brantford/Paris. Service is outstanding- but the food.......is truly created by a chef that loves their craft. We were served such huge portions - that we took home enough for a complete dinner the next night! And the Tirà Misu......was the best I ever had in my life- and I have tried Tira Misu in at least 50 different places. It was so large- it could easily be shared by 2 people. Prices are comparable to the Keg-but you get so much more for your money. Quality is obvious a high priority- so much in fact- that the Queen (yes the actual Queen) has dined here. Will definately be a regular here now.
Awesome atmosphere with good food, a tad pricey. Piano 10/10. Our server Josh was very rude, touched my plate and food, judged and openly commented on my choice of food, obnoxious all in all. Was waiting for Ashton Kucher to hop out with some cameras. (Dont give me a report card if I can't fill it out)
Always quality service, excellent meals from a menu with something for everyone. Gourmet meals, uncomparable to anything in the area. Eating there is an experience you remember, and return to experience again.
Great restaurant with charm Food is excellent Service is polite and exceptional Cesar salad and the choc mouse mouse are wonderful and made in house highly recommended
Good food! Great service! Decoration in the restaurant is very neat (Really and old school). Live Piano and singer, light jazzy / blues music. Fantastic atmosphere! Steak Neptune was a little too salty for my taste but everything else was really good! Overall great experience!
Always a great meal and friendly staff.
Food is excellent. Priced right. A little down hill since Covid began but I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Nice restaurant
Nice Buffet!
Always delicious Standards are always consistent Guss and his team always rock their service
Overall a good dining experience. Would be nice to see some updating in the decor. The wait staff were amazing and very professional. Would like to try their brunch to see the difference. Great venue for a wedding as well.
The restaurant has a lovely ambiance. We picked the chef's special for lunch. This included appetizer, entree and dessert. The meal was superb, large helpings. The raspberry cake for dessert topped off the meal. They even served our coffee from a silver container. Service was very elegant as well.
My family and I eat at The Olde School Restaurant a few times every year for celebratory events and always have fantastic service and delicious food! However, a recent visit for Sunday brunch has left me extremely disappointed. I understand that during these times restaurants are short staffed and that mistakes are sometimes made. With that being said, upon arrival only half of us were checked for COVID passports. We waited 20 minutes before even recieving menus. I explained to the staff that we had to be in Paris for 3pm, but no one communicated to us the extent of the wait time. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food. Our hashbrowns were actually french fries, and because we had waited so long we ended up having to take the food to-go. There was no apology or attempt to resolve our dissatisfaction. Overall very unimpressed with this visit.
Yummy
