It's with great regret that I submit this review...you'll understand why by the end of this. The atmosphere is perfect. Whether you want to sit out in the patio and enjoy the warm sun overlooking the waters or share an intimate candle lit table inside, they have a spot for you. The servers are both attentive and discrete. Our server Russ knew exactly when to come by and when we just wanted alone time. The food was amazing. Plenty of flavor combined with perfect texture, Italian food done right. We savoured our meals while the sun set outside the window. It was very romantic. The lights from the boats bobbed out in the water. We finished off our dinner with chocolate cake and cappuccinos as the stars came out. We indulged without caring about the cost, it was a treat to ourselves and were enjoying the night immensely. When the bill came, it actually was $50 less than what either of us guessed it would be. The reason I regret to submit this review is that Il Buco has become our new favorite place to go and after this review, we may now have to wait in line to get a table. ????

The food was great. Only getting a 4 star because we sat in the corner near the glass doors at the back. The ceiling had a bunch of spider webs and wasn't very clean. You'd think with all the time the restaurants were closed more time would have been spent getting things clean.

Went for our wedding anniversary dinner and it was outstanding. The service was excellent, the food superb. Not the first time here but always excellent. An added bonus is the reasonable prices and generous quantities. So far my favourite restaurant in Barrie.

Il Buco is one of the best, if not THE best, in Barrie. Our dishes were high-quality, expertly crafted, and delivered to our lakeside patio table in great timing. The service was incredible as well. I'm die hard fans for their house made lasagna with fresh pasta and spectacular Bolognese sauce. The server, Jen is very friendly and provide competent service.

Probably the worst italian food I have ever had. I think this city is desperate for more fine dining restaurants where you can take your significant other because this restaurant really misses the mark. Yes its a decent place for what we have available in Barrie but the food is a disgrace to italian culture. Very nice views, with pretty good staff, but for the price, I recommend driving to the GTA. I can also admit that many people recommended this restaurant to me, and that my expectations were set high to begin with, but this City deserves better then to call this place "the best restaurant in Barrie".

We recently moved to Barrie from Toronto and received a gift card from family and chose to have it for Il Buco. We really appreciate good food and dining out, but due to Covid we chose to have take away and we were not disappointed! We got a salad, appetizer, pasta and main and all were delicious. It's definitely some of the best food we've had in a long time and will definitely be adding Il Buco to our (short) list of favorites.

We had a really good time at Il Buco tonight! Food was so tasty! The portion sizes are good and I really enjoyed the fresh tasting food! I would highly recommend, and I’m excited to visit in the summer! We are the lasagna, ravioli (special), and shrimp linguine. All were great! The flourless chocolate cake and crepe brûlée were fantastic! Prices were also very affordable. Just over $100 for three entrees, 2 deserts, and 2 drinks!

I just had a delicious takeout meal from Il Buco. I was amazed at the outstanding quality and taste from both our pastas, salads, and deserts. I cannot recommend this place enough! Anyone looking for an incredible meal at a reasonable price, please check this place out! We loved every bite! Will certainly be back very soon. This is without a doubt, my new favourite restaurant!

A few nice dinner. The tomato goat cheese salad was really good, and the asparagus cream sauce ravioli was decent. That was the only vegetarian choice on the menu other than salad. The highlight of the night was when the waiter Francesco sang happy birthday to my friend in his extraordinary opera voice! Nice atmosphere.

Fantastic Italian restaurant in downtown Barrie. The ambiance is warm and relaxing. The service is friendly and attentive. The food is superb! The roasted garlic appetizer with goat cheese sauce and crusty bread deserves the 'famous' in its name on the menu, highly recommended. Wonderful view of the Barrie waterfront, year round. Great spot for a romantic dinner on date night.

Amazing food, good portions service is very friendly and they accommodated us well.We will definitely be back but just some feed back on patio maybe some nice calm music would set the tone and a candle or light in the center of the table it did get dark and couldnt see our plates due to lighting but we also sat in a middle table on the patio where the lighting wasn't the greatest. Our first time here and won't be our last .

I had a lovely dinner last night for my birthday. All of the food was excellent starting with the Seafood risotto, Antipasto and main dinner was the Blackened Salmon. The service was excellent too. I highly recommend that you call before and book a reservation as they are very busy and there were a few people turned away as all the tables were booked.

Great location (view of lake Simcoe at rear patio); great service; amazing lunch pricing ($16 for '3' course meal - including beef Carpaccio!). However, the dishes are hit and miss. I had the lasagna, which was reheated in a microwave (the server admitted when I asked, which I was impressed by her honesty!). Penne in a Rose Sauce with mushrooms was quite good though, but the 'third' course was an extremely small portion of freezer burnt Champman's (or something equally unacceptable) ice cream. This, at an Italian restaurant. Mangia Cake imo...

The food here is absolutely magnificent. I ordered the chicken parmesan special and my wife had the linguine rapini. The chicken parmesan was cooked to perfection and the sauce was incredibly delicious. It was just so good. The pasta dish was out of this world too. I could eat that linguine all day. The right balance of bitter, sweet and savory that is so difficult to achieve. All of the food tasted home-made and authentic, not like the chain restaurants where everything tastes manufactured. We were served by an old Italian man, which made the experience all that much better. It was interesting when I asked him what kind of sparkling water they serve and he responded with conviction and said, "San Pellegrino!" As if it was the only sparkling water that matters. Lol We will definitely return. Love this place.

COVID forced us to do take-out, and STILL the food was fantastic and well prepared. When I came into the restaurant for my pick up, I could hear the last preparations being made to my order. The flavours were fantastic and the dessert was the best - tiramisu. I can't wait until my wife and I can have a dinner here!

Went to Il Buco for our staff Christmas party and it was a dining experience you must experience. The ambiance in the restaurant was very romantic as we all sat in a candle lit dining area. The staff were very accommodating and pleasant, as well they were very knowledgeable and humorous. The cleanliness was impeccable. The food was to die for. So fresh and full of flavor. A must try dining experience in barrie!

My favourite restaurant in Barrie for date night. The ambiance is upscale semi-formal with a friendly, family atmosphere. The staff and service is of the highest level, punctuated with charm and a genuine desire to make your experience the best it can be. A solid wine list and the food is outstanding. I've eaten my way through most of the plentiful menu despite often being swayed by the multiple, wonderful specials offered. Never a disappointment, always delightful and remarkably more impressed each time I visit. Book your table ahead, il Buco has been very popular for years and you do not want to miss the experience.

Horrible staff! We called before and we specifically said we’re 4 adults and a 2 year old baby, on the phone all good, but there we get attended by one obnoxious server, who denied us service in the rudest way possible. Buddy I’m a server too, I know the COVID regulations, firstly when people speak with me on the phone I’m paying attention , and secondly it is my 30th birthday, when I tend to customers and they come with their babies and toddlers I don’t make a big deal and I let them eat in peace, obviously you have no kids! Learn the business pal. Never been to your place, never will again ! You lost a good tip, don’t recommend at all, not family friendly! Shame on you!

My brother and I had a very good supper last night. The Chicken Marsala was ample and tasty, the vegetables were perfectly cooked. My brother had a rocotta-spinach stuffed ravioli, and it was again, ample and tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive. Overall very well priced. Would highly recommend.

Lovely atmosphere, great view, wonderful service. But our food definitely needed some tweaking. The Caesar salad was dressed in a gloppy, flavourless mayonnaise based concoction that didn’t taste homemade. Too bad, because the romaine was fresh and nicely plated with fresh shreds of Parmesan. I had the grilled calamari and shrimp, delicious but accompanied by two cold, previously grilled pieces of baguette. My husband had the lasagna. Very disappointing. Not much flavour, lukewarm and dry. It appeared to have been reheated. Would not recommend this. Would love to give this restaurant another try, it was so nice sitting there. But the food needs more care.

We came in at 4pm and he presented wonderful poise that kept us eating and enjoying the atmosphere right until the final bite of tiramisu, as well as a good memory after we left. This was the strangest restaurant experience. The food is amazing! But the service was pretty terrible. I don't know if it's because of the reduced number of tables because of covid, but the entire dinner was very rushed. The server didn't really listen, he asked us if we wanted white wine and then left before we could respond that we wanted red. They tried to take our plates multiple times while we were eating, even as we were taking bites they were trying to take the plates away. And then they offered the dessert options, to which we said no thank you we're fine and the waiter responded with "one spoon or two" and we asked "what?" and he just left. Then he came back with two creme brulees, passed them to us and left again. We were mystified! Not only had we said no to dessert, but he brought two. We decided to eat them and just pay the bill, but the whole meal was soured by the wait staff rushing us along and not listening to our actual orders. I'm also not sure how they are ranked one of the most romantic restaurants in Canada, the restaurant is small and dated, and they jarringly belted the happy birthday song to patrons on no less than four occasions (while somehow still forgetting to sing it to me). Just a strange experience, and while the food was good I won't be back.

Let me start by saying our server Jahmal was stellar!! He was warm, attentive and his kind nature created a beautiful beginning to our lunch! Now for the food, my linguini aglio e olio was perfectly balanced, fresh and delicious! My husband’s dish of spiced sausage with rapini was marvellously seasoned and scrumptious! The food was excellent as you can see by my veal chop which was cooked to perfection. I give server brownie points for serving a litre of Sangria with the ice on the side. A lovely place with excellent food and great service. We need to go back and try their pasta. Update: Went in for a belated birthday celebration during stage 2 Covid -19 reopening. Had to make the reservation over a week in advance. Their patio is lovely, well-spaced and lite once it got dark. Even a bit of light rain we were well covered. Rusty our waiter gave great service and the food was delicious as usual.

One of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. It's got a really nice atmosphere, an excellent menu (try the whole roasted garlic bruschetta!), And friendly staff. The patio overlooks Lake Simcoe, and has a spectacular view.

Enjoyed a terrific three course lunch today December 11, 2019 at Ill Buco. It was a nice atmosphere that allowed for quiet conversation. The Cream off Broccoli soup was out of this world followed by a delicious lasagna which was a perfect portion size. As good as the good was the service was 1st class. Glasses were never empty and we did not have to ask for anything. Finally it was a pleasant surprise getting the check; very good value for the food we were served. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Been here twice during lockdown, first time was December and most recent for valentines dinner take out of course. Both times great meal, staff are polite and make you feel welcomed. Not a fan of pasta or Italian food but hands down was delicious quality food price is extremely reasonable generous portions.

We parked on Dunlop and didn’t know any better entrance so my date had the funniest look when we walked in through the back entrance! Despite the shaky start Il Buco was a delight that made everything a delight. A caring server had great timing and knew the menu off hand. We enjoyed the homemade fettuccine veal and beet salads which were perfect. The cheesecake on the dessert menu is one of the tasty options to close it off. Portions are decent and the pricing is very digestible. If you’re looking for a nice wintry date with the wife or simply dinner with a friend this is a great option in Barrie.

The food was amazing! Our server was excellent. The service overall was great Food came quickly but we were not rushed. Serving sizes were big! Pricing was excellent...lots of opportunities to eat high end or middle of the road. Same with the wine. $250/bottle or 20/bottle. I would highly recommend. Five of us ate well for around $200.

We celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here on Sept 18. The service was fantastic, food was AMAZING and we enjoyed dining on the patio. I HIGHLY recommend trying Enrico's Famous Garlic Appetizer... you will not be disappointed. I apologize I cannot remember the servers name, but she was very friendly and had a great sense of humour. Overall, a really great experience.

Place is fine. The food is tasty but not outstanding. The decor is authentic but not breathtaking. The service was quick (as expected around lunch time on a weekday) and polite. Advertised as a place with a view to the harbor but in reality you are probably 700 feet away and don't really see much of the harbor. Prices are very affordable and worth the visit. Deserts are pretty good.

Great place for date night. The patio at night has a romantic ambiance. We tried the Barrilicious menu the night we cane here. I like that you can make a reservation using the OpenTable app. I find it convenient to book a table. The server kept referring to us as signora/signore and it has that nice sound to it. For me, it makes me feel extra special and I wanted to act more lady-like despite my lack of table manners. Lol The dishes were all good. I was not able to finish the veal that I ordered just because I was full. When someone calls you signora, you kindda want to leave some food and not lick your plate clean.

This was our second visit to Il Buco and it's still a brilliant place for fine dining. Excellent location, pleasant atmosphere with relaxing music. Fabulous dining experience overall. First - is fantastic service - our waiter, Cyril, carefully described the dishes to us (from appetizer, mains, desserts to wines). Second – the food. Everything tasted great - they really make an effort at presenting their elegant dishes and they were pleasantly accommodating to gluten sensitive diets. Strongly recommend trying this restaurant. We expect many more future visits to Il Buco.

I loved this place! As a vegan, I'm always concerned about the menu but they made me feel like home. Just told me to chose some pasta and sauce and they would make it vegan, and I have to say it was delicious!

Went here for date night and couldn't have been more pleased. Contacted the restaurant in advance to see what options they had for a fussy vegetarian. Sue responded with a very detailed email that made shooting easier. We shared a couple aps including the roasted beet salad which were great. I chose one of the specials which includes chicken parm and spaghetti. My wife customized a couple of the vegetarian options and was very pleased. We had a couple drinks and desert all for a very reasonable price. Russ was our server and was top notch

Waited few minutes at the door all the staff was passing by without saying hi or offering table. My date saw me and took me to table his waiter ran after him thinking he was leaving. No one checked my vaccination report. Waited for food 40 minutes so we decided to leave.also wanted to add it is very unclear where to stand when entering. We did no modification to food. Entrance to restaurant smells like someone has been smoking weed for years which I strongly dislike the smell. There were no cocktails on the menu. I cannot drink wine and beer with pasta doesn’t go good. Waiter suggested vodka on its own, or vodka with sprite or vodka with oj I said fine after 3rd suggestion. Table we got was right by exit it made us feel unwelcome. Maybe do not overbook if unable to accommodate within certain timeframe.
