Unfortunately worse than the last time we had it around 6 months ago. Significantly smaller portions. Flavour not bad but nothing amazing. The fish was slightly tough. For the price it was mediocre.

I'm a big fish and chips guy, and this place was incredible!! Really nice fish and perfectly crispy chips! And you can't beat the location!! We got to eat right by the river and it was stunning.

We are here for the first time and from being warmly welcomed, to ordering and having the very delicious food delivered to our outside table it has been a fantastic experience. My friend said the halibut and chips were just like she had in the UK! We will definitely stop again! ????

Great spot, fun and friendly staff, and a nice variety of foods on the menu. We only had fries and poutine but they were good, with real cheese curds on the poutine.

Pleasant surprise! Decent prices, small interior dining room, outdoor seating with a view. Rings were pricy for the amount. They seemed a little harried, but helpful. The oil was perfect and flavors were great.

I placed a take out order for lunch today. I ordered 1- 2 piece halibut 2 -2 piece haddock with salads instead of fries. I received 1 piece of halibut, 3 pieces of haddock, 1 order of fries and 1 side salad. For this I paid $82.01! I called and spoke to the owner, who was not helpful at all. Cottage Country Fish and chips is much easier to deal with, decent prices, never disappointed. Go there instead.

Was passing through and needed a meal before a long drive ahead of me. Stopped here for takeout. The young lady working there was SUPER nice to my dog while I waited and asked before giving her a treat. The older chap that took my order suggested the special and he was very pleasant as well. My meal hit the spot and didn't leave me feeling heavy on the drive home. Chips were great - just the right amount. Awesome tartar sauce too. I wish it had come with a drink though! Overall, great spot and obviously a local favourite.

The taste reminded me of the fish and chips I used to have back in the UK. Seriously awesome quality at a reasonable price. Highly recommend the Halibut special!! Will be returning before we leave town :)

We ordered a Halibut, cod, it was just perfect and it was one of the best fish and chips we had after a long time!. This place is very very nice, and has plenty of options for the seating(inside, patio, picnic benches with a very nice view). The people were warm and welcoming, this is gonna be our goto place whenever we around the area!

We had our first trip to For The Halibut tonight and the whole family was very pleased! The cod & chips was filling and delicious and our non-fish-eating kiddo loved the Bancroft Weiner off the Small Fry menu. Kind service, great food and a beautiful view!

My friends and I plan a road trip whenever we can to come from Pembroke down for fish and chips. Best place to eat. Very clean and food is delicious . Would give the Halibut house a 10 See you ...soon

Great spot. The food takes a while but it is such a nice view by the river that it makes up for the wait. Definitely fantastic fish (I had the halibut) and the fries were great as well. Appreciated the two varieties of vinegar as well. Very authentic IMO.

Overall, good fish and chip place. The food is cooked to order, so you may have to wait a bit. There's a nice little picnic table area beside the river to eat. Will eat here again.

The sign out front says they have the best clam chowder and they aren't lying! Great halibut and huge onion rings. Great for families. You have to eat here when you come to Bancroft.

By far, the best halibut and chips I've ever had in my life. Just wish it wasn't so far away from home. The fish is fresh and the batter is light and delicious. The clam chowder is the best I've ever tasted, so much clams in every spoonful. The fries are freshly cut and perfectly cooked. Be sure to get the homemade lemonade. The prices are fair and the service is excellent. If you're ever in Bancroft, put this place on your must visit list! Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Tucked away at a bend on the York River, just off the highway, this fish and chip getaway serves fresh seafood treats. From other Google reviews my wife and I read while deciding on where to go, it's known but others as the go-to drop in restaurant on the way to othe cottage - my wife and I can understand why. All the stars. Try the chowder.

Very disappointing experience…we are fish and chip eaters. Have eaten all across Ontario and abroad. The food here was substandard. The fish was small. The coleslaw was from a jar and served in a tartar sauce container. The fries had no salt. No salt, pepper, ketchup, napkins or utensils were provided with our take-out.

I have been meaning to write this review since August (when we ate there) and am finally getting around to it now. I would normally have just forgotten about it but the service was so terrific and friendly, that I felt they deserved a shout out and a review. We happened upon them with 2 minutes to closing and they took pity on us and our staving teenagers and stayed open a bit longer. The meals were good and exactly what you want from fish & chips. - good size fish and crispy chips that are not too greasy. This place is worth stopping for and they have picnic tables on the water with an amazing sunset view plus excellent and friendly owners.

Excellent fish and chips. Very fresh and generous portions of haddock which was the special for the day. The poutine was great. Fresh cut fries that are hot with tasty curds and a delicious gravy. The coleslaw was delicious too.

This was perfection! I grew up having fish and chips with my father so this was the perfect place for Father's day lunch. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious. The waterfront view is lovely and we definitely appreciated the cardboard straws and packaging to lower the environmental impact! Would definitely recommend.

Awesome meal the wife had the Haddock & I had the Trout fish was cooked to perfection tons of really good fries ????. The lemonade was quite tasty also ????. Sat on back patio overlooking the river very nice spot. Many varieties of fish & seafood.

Worth the stop if you're going through Bancroft. They have lots of tasty fish options from halibut (it's in the name), cod, haddock and pickerel to clams, fish tacos, fries and great salads.

Delicious, freshly cooked, simple fare. Battered fish was crispy and tender, lemonade and iced tea tasty, salads crisp and flavourful. The picnic bench with river view made this the perfect end of vacation treat.

Meh. Food way too salty. Ordered halibut with chips, seafood platter, and clam chowder. Everything was too salty. I like savoury food and salt, but this was too much. Wouldn't provide any extra boxes/plates for sharing (not even one which is all that i asked for) ... thought that was stingy considering I spent $100 for lunch and tip. Dined-in, but that doesn't mean much bc it's foodcourt style where you have pay (and tip) when you order and they bring you your food in takeout containers .. smart on them for asking for tip in advance bc otherwise I wouldn't have based on food and service. Disappointed with the portion of "homemade" coleslaw that came with the fish and chips - served in one of those small condiment containers; one bite and it's all gone. Fries were not fresh, misleading bc they advertise using the bag of yukon potatoes. Overall, would not recommend.

This place used to be THE best. My family has been coming here for years, but unfortunately they’ve changed ownership again and have now changed the batter recipe and it’s just not the same great taste it used to be. You now only get plastic knives and forks and instead of actual dishes, they will only serve your food in cardboard take out boxes. Not important, but something that also stuck out to me was that the music being played was techno music which just doesn’t suite the vibe. Complete disappointment and unfortunately we have lost our favourite spot. We won’t be returning.

The food was excellent. They have eat in dining for those with proof of vaccination and a lovely clean outdoor dining area for those who aren't. Clean washrooms.
