Outdoor seating only which is lovely if the weather is good, otherwise be prepared to huddle around the umbrellas. Great food.

One of the best fish and chips and seafood and everything I've ever had. If you stop by Englishtown, be sure to go here.

Kirk MacAskill

Any thought I'd have of purchasing food here was gone after ignorant comments made by the owner, as well as my brother receiving deep fried gravel his first order. If you're gonna throw vast sums of money away for food, keep driving to any number of other better local gems.

Truly the best fish I had during 2 week vacation on east coast!!! Great little stop after the mini ferry in Englishtown!!

John Bailin

We ate here in early July, '18, and the fish & chips were superb! Checking in a few days later, Google says he's closed, but that doesn't square with our experience. I certainly hope not, because this food was out of this world, and the captain himself, a delightful host!

Thanks Captain! These are the best fish and chips in the area. Always happy to make a stop. Definitely worth it! Fast service and excellent quality fish as well as scallops. The place has been open every time we have visited however exact hours seem tentative.

Manny Khaira

We're not there on the day I went. Must be a popup

Best fish and chips I have ever had! During my whole tour of Nova Scotia this was hands down the best. Get it with sea salt and the tartar sauce. Highly recommend stopping for lunch or an early dinner

Bradley Bormuth

A very lively place and friendly owner with excellent fish and chips and fried clams. Highly recommended stop whether or not you intend to take the ferry across.

Calum MacGregor

The fish was alright. But 20 dollars for 2 pieces isnt worth it. And the tartar sauce was awful. Who mixes curry powder and mustard with tartar sauce?

Emily Lu

Best fish and chips I've ever had. So fresh and delicious! The captain was a highlight of our Cabot Trail trip. Everyone should make this a must-do on their list.

FYI the Captain has moved to next to the Baddeck Marine in Baddeck. Drive down Water Street, you won't miss him! Best fish and chips on the planet.

John Jerger

The fish and chips were some of the best we have had on our travels in Nova Scotia. The homemade tartar sauce was unique and very tasty as well. The owner is a hoot, lots of fun energy. Captain Capers was located in Englishtown, Cape Breton but moved to its current location in Baddeck when the local ferry was closed for the summer. The owner likes his new location and plans to stay.

Good and full of sass

Best fish and chips I have ever tried!

Best Fish & Chips of my whole trip, where I ate at least one each day of the week. The batter is super crunchy and the fish tastes great. The homemade fries are perfect and the sea salt gives it a great accent. A bit on the pricy side, but it's his speciality and worth every penny. The captain is super friendly, overheard him trying to prepare a gluten-free item for a customer even though it's not on the menu. If you want clams just check with him before though, as he doesn't have em everyday. Outdoor seatings only and small parking lot, but you can park along the boardwalk not far away and enjoy a nice walk along the water.

Moved to Baddeck!! Totally worth a stop here! Amazing fish and chips - delicious fish, perfectly battered. Chips are fresh cut and extremely tasty. No indoor eating but picnic tables with a lovely view of the harbour.

Best fish and chips around! Don’t miss the opportunity to eat here! Captain Caper is also a superb host. Delicious and truly authentic maritime experience.

The haddock taste great and the tartar sauce is unique (mustard and curry). For a fish and chip wagon it is on the pricier side. $28 scallops or clams, $15 for 1 piece of haddock and fries. The portion seemed a bit small (even the tartar sauce given was tiny and not serve yourself) but definitely a good lunch.

Top notch

Yup. The Captain lived up to the billing. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. The tartar sauce contained some curry and it works well. I would try the scallops next time. It's a great spot to check out before or after the ferry across the bay. The atmosphere is part of the experience, too. There are all kinds colourful set pieces (umbrellas, lobster traps, decorated rocks) but none are more colourful than the fish-fryer himself, Moe. He's a character and will most certainly flirt with any ladies in your party. And, if you ask nicely, he may let you throw axes into a wooden target board behind his fish stand. Just be aware that you will be eating either outside or in your car.

Susan Cannon

THE BEST! You must take the very slight detour from hwy 105 to stop at Captain Capers. Freshest haddock and scallops. Don’t miss this place!

Racquel Candela

Mo is super friendly and his food is amazing. Very fresh fish and great homade tartar sauce

Piper M

If you are in Baddeck you need to go here. Amazing food and amazing service. Moe makes the experience ten times more enjoyable with his energy. Food is very good, love the fish and chips

Americo Pino

My favourite fish & chips on all of Cape Breton Island!

James States

Super friendly, delicious. Stopped with my boys they loved the fish and chips.

Kayleigh Harris

Absolutely incredible fish and chips - the best I've ever had! Captain Caper was made the whole thing an amazing experience, so friendly, lively, and funny. We had a wonderful time chatting with him, our lunch here was truly a highlight of our week long trip to Nova Scotia. Regardless of where you are staying you should make the trip up to Captain Capers for the delicious food, lovely atmosphere and beautiful location!
