This Restaurant is included in the category of Fine dining restaurant.
Always a fantastic place for great service, food, and wine. Ambiance of a Calgary heritage house.
A delicious epicurean experience of 6 courses crafted with creativity and precision. This was accompanied by an intriguing wine bouquet as well as excellent service befitting of classic French-style cuisine. Perhaps the most satisfying meal I've enjoyed. I will most certainly return eager for more.
Had lunch in the garden, service was excellent and food was good. I had the wagyu steak and eggs. Steak could have been more flavorful and tender.
I've had dinner here and now a wedding reception. Friendly staff and exemplary service. Thanks guys!
The three course weekly lunch special is unsurpassed in comparison to any other menu in Calgary. Vegetables are organically grown right in Rouge's garden. It was ridiculously reasonable for the atmosphere, arrangement and professional service. I'm only disappointed that the special is not available on week-ends. I think it would really bring in the crowds.
Service and food was good. 2 appetizers, 2 mains, 3 drink and 1 dessert came to just under $200. When booking online it asked food allergies, which was disclosed. Also told server we would be sharing everything and also the girlfriends food allergy. Unfortunately, my dish had something she could not eat. It did not however, prevent us from enjoying the experience. It was aight!
The Chefs Tasting Menu was excellent!
Every detail was delicious! The vinaigrette on the garden salad was light and refreshing. The duck confit was perfect and the vegetables were fresh and tasty. I had the wonderfully tangy lemon parfait to finish and it was delightful.
This is definitely a splurge, but never ceases to impress. The food has always been beautifully presented and tastes great. The menu is creative and in the spring and summer the garden produce is used when possible. Kudos to Chef Paul and his team.
We have had a great meal there a few times now!
The food was delicious. The service superb. And I was pleased with the prices.
Cute little place! Food was good but was a little pricey
A wonderful restaurant for special occasions. We’ve gone here several times over the last several years and have never had a bad experience. We normally do their tasting menu with the wine pairing and they’re great at adapting for food allergies. Their staff is knowledgeable about their wines and can give some great recommendations if you’re not sure what to choose.
Delicious tasting menu with great wine selection. An exceptional dinning experience from start to finish. Top 10 restaurants in Calgary in my books.
Historic building with beautifully landscaped yard. Perfect for small intimate weddings. The food is fresh with some greens sourced from the garden in the back. The food was good but not memorable and portions were small and expensive. Exactly what you'd expect from a high end restaurant. So don't come eat here with a small budget and a big appetite.
It's a five star experience because the staff are working at a very high standard. The food is amazing, but is made in such a way that the ingredient is not played with too much, so you are aware of what you are eating. The amount of food you get may be small, but the experience and taste is what it is all about. The garden is always interesting and the chef may or may not be around, but he is all about his business and his guests, so say hello if you get a chance. For the culinary students, if you wish to up your career, chef may have a day where you can go in and see just how well you do. The criticism given is a great help, and you never know what may happen from there on. Rouge Restaurant has always had it's standards quite high because the chef has had his fair share of experience in the culinary and business industry.
We attended a lovely wedding reception for some friends here, and it is a very picturesque venue and location. The grounds are very cool, they grow a lot of their own ingredients in gardens in the back. The gardener was only too happy to share some of the spoils with my kids (they were thrilled). The food is not really my style though, and the service felt quite disjointed and slow - we had quite a small party. The 3 star is maybe not fair, the food is just not my style.
The ambience was the star of the show. Very quaint and cozy feel while still elegant and high quality. The portions were decently sized for a high class restaurant. The appetizers were not super memorable but the main course was and I cannot stop thinking about the desserts.
Seriously the best meal of my life! Had the privilege to be part of a chef's tasting menu and I have to say, it was AMAZING!!! Food was out of this world, wine pairings were perfection, and the atmosphere was top notch. Definitely a must-do!
Such delicious food and very attentive staff, but definitely not for the faint of wallet
I am a physician whom witnessed a friend go through food poisoning. and when I communicated this incident with a restaurant managers, their response was "we cannot apologize or refund, this will make us look bad and maybe open the way for a lawsuit!" I'm sure there is a better way to handle this than what they did, especially when you spend hundreds of dollars on a meal!
The food at rouge is unique and delicious! The service is outstanding! Our waitress Rae went above and beyond to ensure a great guest experience with every little detail. From watching her pick fresh mint in their garden for a cocktail… to the last plate on the tasting menu delivered! The tasting menu with pairings is a must!
Went for a New Years dinner! Excellent service, amazing food, but you have to bring a parka if you are seated upstairs. It is really hard to enjoy good food when you are freezing and your wife has to wear a red tablecloth to keep warm!!! Heard alot of apologize but not even an offer of a hot coffee or tea to help, so maybe the service wasn't so great!
Wonderful food, great service. Loved it!!!!
Must go. Pricey but we'll worth it
French influenced cuisine. Old historic building. Good food . Inadequate parking. Temperature control often a challenge . Staff well trained. Rate 4.5 for food. 4.0 for value.
It was a great experience dining here! Food and service was amazing. I loved the location and the service was professional but not pretentious. They were great in accommodating my boyfriends die hard love for foie gras in our tasting menu.
Our first experience at Rouge this evening. Fantastic food! We chose the Chef's Experience and each of the four courses were very flavourful. The suggested wine pairing with my main course was perfect further enhancing the flavour experience with the lamb and beef short rib. Definetly going back. Soon! Must try other menu items. Sorry, no photo's. Check it out yourself!
I was hoping for a better experience, the menu is overpriced, the tenderloin and veggies were cold and definitely not worth $46. Service was friendly but the atmosphere was very boring with cheap decor, the building has significant historic ties to the city of Calgary, but I didn’t feel that, it’s just an overpriced casual restaurant.
Fun and friendly, a little expensive, save it for an occasion.
This restaurant changed hands a couple years ago I don’t find it quite as good anymore but still worth 4 stars
This is my favorite place in Calgary. The food and the staff are amazing. The building is part of history and a bautiful location.
Took a client to lunch today, the place was completely empty and we were seated quickly, very charming restaurant, the waitress took our orders and brought two slices of French bread and a large round of butter, my guest asked for a few more pieces of bread and was told “we normally just provide two pieces”. Although the food was good, presentation was good, and came out hot, and very tasty, the comments of the waitress completely ruined our lunch.
My husband took me here for my birthday! What a treat. The space is lovely and romantic, as it was once a grand victorian-style home. It's and the staff are all sweet. But the food? Omg. We had the charcuterie board to start; it had the most beautiful spread of cheese and meats and we ate every bit of it. For the mains, I had the lamb and he had the steak. The lamb was inCREDible, and the steak was definitely the best I've ever tried (hubby was kind enough to share a bite). The cocktails and dessert were the perfect bookends to the meal! Every bite of every course was spectacular, and the service was excellent. I can't wait to go back!
Nice little celebratory dinner in safe, unrisky environment. Always a nice experience at Rouge.
Underwhelming experience and a far cry from previous visits. Not sure what exactly has changed but the front of house staff seemed unfriendly and slightly indifferent as to whether you were having a positive experience or not. Wine recommendations were not all that great either.
Exquisite fine dining coupled with a very rustic, antique vibe to it
I find rouge to be a bit of a funny restaurant. Before we went there, family and friends warned us it was quite pretentious. Which, depending on your outlook could be true however, we found the wait staff outgoing and friendly, and genuinely concerned that we left having a delightful culinary treat! A great experience and excellent value.
Great service, easy parking and exceptionally different Canadian ingredient food. There is always something to try and to learn when eating here.
Came here for my birthday dinner with my family and it was alright. Some of the dishes were delicious others were mediocre. What struck me as a little odd was that four of us ordered red meat (steaks and lamb) but only one of us was asked how we would like our meat cooked and a couple of our entrees definitely came undercooked. The service was great, our waitress was really nice but the atmosphere was a bit stuffy. For the price, you’re much better off going to Teatro.
Fantastic service, food and wine. A favourite place to eat and enjoy friends company.
Amazing food and ambience. Very classy.
The restaurant was beautiful. The service was good. The food was okay. We did the chef's taster menu and I can't say it was amazing. In comparison to other restaurants with the same ranking and price, I would choose a different restaurant. The food was unique but did not stand out.
Venue is basically an old house that is pleasant with a lot of art work on the walls. Service was very good and attentive. Food was top rate. Nice complementary "amuse bouche" with excellent inhouse bread and butter. Appies were the crab and the pheasant terrine - both of which were excellent. My friend (who makes some pretty stand out gnocchi) gave thumbs up to their offering. I had the bouillabaisse which also hit the mark. Outstanding broth with large quantity of seafood .Excellent venue, service and food - hitting all the right check marks
Nice atmosphere and good food but not outstanding. As most people have mentioned the price is too high for the amount and quality of food you get. Not looking to gorge myself but I definitely left hungry after ordering the Ribeye entree. $17 for 5 piece tortellini appetizer and $44 for 6 carrots and 2 small medallions of ribeye. I understand local and farm fresh can be pricey but this was a tad extreme Rouge.
I enjoyed dinner this evening with a group of three business colleagues at Rouge. the restaurant is in a converted Victorian style house. The decor and ambiance are very classic without being pretentious. The wait staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Ahh - the food. Absolutely excellent. Most of our party had a beet salad as an entree, and the gnocchi as the main. Both were absolutely delicious. This was one of the most wonderful dining experiences I’ve had in Calgary. It’s a ten min from central city but well worth the trip. Highly recommended.
Fine dining doesn't get any better than this. My wife and I shared her birthday dinner at Rouge. Natasha was our server, who was SUPER welcoming and very easy to be around. She was very knowledgeable on everything (!). We were pleasantly surprised with the amazing sourdough bread (endless supply), and the craft beer on tap as well (simple tastes here!). The food portions are a little on the smaller side but the flavour made up for it. We will be recommending to friends and visiting ourselves again for special occasions. Go Rouge Go!
Can't say enough about this place. Eat there on special occasions and have never been disappointed. Food and service is impeccable. Pricey but well worth it in my opinion.
Best French food that we had outside the ????????. Foie gras us to die for. We will be back, thank you guys!
The food was great but the service could use some improvement. The staff were friendly but would not explain what dish they were dropping off as part of the tasting menu.
Been a few times, food has always been great. However, the service can be lacking.
I was brought here for our anniversary. Beautiful, very high class and antique.
Not just a meal, this is an experience.
Incredible food. The restaurant is located in a 1800's house which adds to the overall feeling of the experience. 100% recommended
Service and food - amazing! Great area of the city to have a nice walk before or after. You bring the appetite they supply the romantic setting. Date or casual dinner.
It's our special date place.
We arrived on time for our reservation, the staff were welcoming, and we had this great table in the solarium. The art on the walls is modern in contrast to the heritage house, Wich gave it a clean and warm vibe. The entire place smelt of cooking in a good way, and the food did not disappoint. I had the Lamb, and my friend had the smoked duck. Both dishes were mouthwatering good and we paired that with a red wine recommended by our server. Food was on time and hot, wine was perfect. We then were given a tour of the wine cellar and were told about the building. In all this was a great dining experience and I would recommend it to friends. It's perfect for a romantic dinner, or an important celebration. This will not be my last visit to Rouge, see you there!
The food was terrific and so was the service. I will go back.
Delicious tasting menu with wine pairing and excellent service!
Beautiful atmosphere, impecable service and great food.
Quiet relaxing atmosphere. Great wine selection. We were definitely underdressed but our server didn't make us feel out of place which I appreciate .the Fois Gras parfait is definitely a must try!
Fantastic dining experience. Slow food service, but this was probably due to a few large groups dining at the same time (Xmas parties). Would dine here again in an instant.
Booked a special birthday dinner a couple of weeks in advance. Had the chef's tasting menu. Fun unique and delicious dishes along with a shared wine paring (server recommendation). Service was exceptional. Wasn't until we were leaving did we realize we had been their only customers that evening. They kept the restaurant open just for the 4 of us.
Found this on the Canada top 100 restaurant list and it's there for a reason. Pricey, but excellent!
The best Top Grass Beef Tenderloin steak I've ever had and I've had a lot of steaks. Not sure if they have it on the menu anymore but it had bone marrow for flavoring.
Great service and food
Great food, service and ambiance for a date night. Our server was extremely knowledgeable on the wine list and helped us choose our bottle. We started with the tuna tartar which tasted fresh and light. I had the braised bison cheek and my boyfriend had the wild boar loin. We both agreed the bison cheek was the better of the two, likely because it was covered in a delicious sauce and fell apart when eating (but the pork was also good). We will be back for sure.
Came here for the Calgary Food and Drink EXP that was going on this week. It was a 5 course meal for $65. The presentation of the food was very pretty. However the food did not meet my expectations. Some of the food was bland and not seasoned well in my opinion. There was food that was given to us on the house which was really nice of Rouge, but the taste was alright. The on house chocolate cakes tasted store bought. I had been here a few years back and loved it but it seems the consensus nowadays is that it is not as good as it used to be. I would recommend if it was a normal restaurant, but because rouge is a higher end place with a price that reflects that, therefore I would not recommend.
We had an amazing dinner service was excellent, great flavors, thanks so much Chef Dean Fast look forward to seeing you again soon.
Dope!
Food tastes amazing. They'll treat you like a king, almost unnecessarily, they wait on you hand and foot like your the Queen of England or something. Food is honestly amazing though. Best food from a restaurant ever. I got the Sturgeon and my husband got the Pork Belly. Both were amazing. There's a kind of Science to this food that's a really unique experience! So many odd but delicious flavors and textures I've never tried before that you can't even imagine them existing! It's like entering a whole new world of flavor! If only I could afford to eat here. Clearly a place for the rich as the servings are pretty small and everyone's wearing suits and stuff. The only reason I went was because we had a $100 gift card. You'll probably need to spend a lot more than that to get full though. In my opinion the appetizers aren't even worth getting because there's so little food it's literally like a bite for $12. So we got dessert instead of that because it's around the same price but you get a lot more for your money. Also finding parking was kind of hard. I don't think they have a parking lot of their own. The restaurant is set in an old luxerious house with many rooms and it's kind of cool to eat in there. It kind of feels like you enter another era or time period. But it's just so expensive! But sooo good! Probably something you do once because you can't afford to do it a second time.
Had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. All 6 courses were exceptional with unique but well complimented flavours. The selected wines paired perfectly withe the dishes. As expected at a nicer restaurant the service was spot on.
Everything is amazing except I don't recommend the fish there. I love the place and everyone that work there. They made the night a memorable experience
Great atmosphere and service, good food except didn't love the Rockfish.
Dinner
Beautiful
Great service, great food.
A very nice restaurant for an enjoyable meal. The food was good but by far not the best calgary has to offer in its price range. Service was excellent but overall the experience of fine dining here completely misses the mark. The lack of any effort to personalize the experience (happy bday message) or to even brush the crumbs off the table made me question my restaurant choice. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype.
One word... AMAZING!
Great Service. Great Food. Great Atmosphere.
Truly enjoyable location for special events. The set menu is always amazing.
Last night we went to your wonderful, award-winning restaurant for our 45th wedding anniversary celebration. As advertised, the food was unsurpassed, our beautiful waitress, Kate, was very attentive and gracious and we had a most enjoyable time. We were told that Rouge used to be the mansion of A.E. Cross, but there was no information of him anywhere, no historical pictures, no word of him on the menu or on any brochure. Although the walls were covered with amazing artwork, there were no pictures of the Cross Mansion or that area of Calgary in its early days. I love Calgary, I love its history. In a restaurant with such a high worldwide rating, it would be nice to have access to its history. We looked it up on Google and found that A.E. Cross, one of the 4 founders of the Calgary Stampede lived there and married the daughter of Col. Macleod who founded Calgary! That's history! I hope you will make this history available to future customers. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening!
Great food & service
Meal type
Great lunch menu!
The most wonderful tasting menu we've experienced in years! Every dish was delicious and memorable, and the service from Diana was exceptional. Can hardly wait for the next time we'll dine at Rouge!
This restaurant does cost an arm and a leg but their food and service is excellent. Their servers are well versed in wine pairing. Most of their vegetables are grown from the in house garden. Giving it a 3 star (or "it's OK") because there are others in town who can put up a similar show for a fraction of the price.
Great venue!
Amazing food. Wine pairing was bang on. Will be back.
Service and food were amazing ! loved it
Great food, great ownership.... Amazing outdoor space of events.
Update: We were invited back by Rouge Management to experience the Chef's Tasting Menu and Wine Paring. Thank you to the management, chefs and servers. The food was superb and the service was friendly and professional. Original rating = 2 starts January 2, 2016. There are many great reviews for this restaurant and that is why we chose it to celebrate 2 family birthdays at Rouge. Unfortunately, the food served in the "Chef's Tasting" last night was not at all up to our expectations. The dishes were not flavourful and many ingredients were repeated in one dish to the next.
On New Year’s Eve we were the only 2 customers for lunch and had the restaurant all to ourselves! Our waiter was amazing, funny and very nice guy! Went with the charcuterie and cheese plate (doesn’t disappoint!) and tried the fish cake and the duck. (With lentilles du Puy if you are familiar) Again, real good. Lemon tart for dessert. Would have loved to come back for their special on the same night but unfortunately we couldn’t! Next time I hope. The restaurant is located in an heritage house and it sounds very French (white « nappe » for example). Reminded me of some upscale restaurants in France. Must also be wonderful during the summer when you can use the patio.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding
I had my wedding at Rouge at the beginning of September 2021. We were on our third wedding re-plan due to covid and were starting from scratch about 2 months out from the wedding date. Rey and the team at Rouge were exceptional to work with. Rey is organized, experienced, and made the whole process as easy as I could have imagined. She helped ease a lot of our stress and made me feel confident that we would finally have a beautiful wedding. On the day of our wedding, Rey and the team were EXCELLENT. Food was amazing, venue was beautiful, staff was professional and helpful and ensured my husband and I were taken care of throughout the day. Everything ran so smoothly and the whole day was completely stress free. I cannot say thank you enough to the whole Rouge team. Would definitely recommend this venue for weddings and other events as well as just for a lovely dinner!
This was my wife and I's fifth time at Rouge. We've attended many events here in the past (anniversaries, birthdays, weddings) and have never been disappointed. Extremely friendly staff and great service. Food is always amazing. Overall great dining experience every time.
We had the chef's tasting menu. It was fantastic.
Amazing place to be treated like royalty! Food was excellent and fabulous presentation! Drinks made to order! Service above and beyond! Will definitely be returning!
Went for the 4 course halloween meal. Food was amazing, really cool experience too
One of the best meals of my life. I had rabbit papardelle to start. It was so good with a slight bitterness from foraged mushrooms. Delicious. I then mentioned that due to a medical issue I won't be able to eat for a few weeks. The kitchen sent two extra bites from their tasting menu. The crustini was delicious. I then had the beef tenderloin with barley and jus. The jus was so savory and the beef melted in my mouth. Humble barley was the star though. It was a little sweet with a rich meaty flavour. I will definitely be back again and again.
This restaurant never disappoints. We have come here for many years to celebrate special occasions. The prices are high but well worth the experience and the food. I haven't had something that I didn't love. Plus, the care the servers and chefs take into making a special evening that much more special, with little bites here and there to try. You cant go wrong and who doesn't love eating dinner in a beautiful garden with string lights hanging above!
Attended last night for company Xmas party meal and cocktails, awesome food, great staff, very impressed. We will return.
We went for a nice New Years dinner, paid a lot of money. Food was excellent, service was great. It was so cold upstairs we had to ask for blankets to keep warm. Some of us don't suffur from cold but even I found it to be very uncomfort. We voiced our concerns many times. When we left it was just starting to warm up. No "sorry" initiatives given. You have a reputation to uphold, the one which brought us there in the first place. We really lost faith.
Fantastic restaurant. Top tier dining, great for parties or a date. Excellent wine selection and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended!
Absolutely stunning heritage site with some of the best food in the city. Reasonably priced for the incredible food.
This place is very unique elegant fun I really like vintage placesI would like the history of this place my niece is getting married but this vendor in Septemberthey have a lot of rooms to pick if you want to have a wedding there or you can …
It was nice to be invited for dinner, and I had high expectations as this location has been on my bucket list for a while. We had the tasting menu. We were all full after, however none of my food was hot when it got to the table. The plates were warm but little of the food. Service was good, but sometimes inconsistent with set standards. Staff were all friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. The location was interesting. Love the separate rooms as it kept the noise level to a minimum. If I could do 3.5 stars I would; I had a good time but honestly the food was not enough to entice me to return.
I have eaten at Rouge a few times over the years and the food and service have always been excellent. We ate there last night for my daughter's birthday and everyone was just delighted with their meals. What I love is that every element on the plate receives the same level of care and attention rather than the meat getting all the attention and then the vegetables being a boring afterthought. I had beef tenderloin which was perfect, and the truffled potato croquettes were out of this world. The portion sizes were perfect, allowing us to enjoy a starter and dessert as well, without feeling over full. My starter of shrimp and grits was memorable - I think the worst food I've eaten in my entire life was encountered on my trip to the southern States, and this dish redeemed my impression of southern cooking. We ate on the patio with a view of their lovely, peaceful garden, complete with a bunny hopping around helping keep the lawn trimmed! A wonderful evening.
Amazing food, great service. Highly recommended
Dine in
Rouge manages to be a great dining experience for decades.
My favourite restaurant. Exceptional food, great atmosphere, professional service.
A fantastic place for a high-end fancy dinner. But my recommendation is make the time to stop by for lunch, the food is the same amazing quality but the prices are a fraction of the price.
Great atmosphere, great food. The staff are very friendly and we're able to make accommodations for food allergies in our party.
Amazing Food. Amazing service. Highly recommended.
Our first post lockdown dinner. We celebrated with the 6 course tasting menu and wine pairings. Such a treat. I wish there was a bit more protein, as I was still surprisingly hungry after. For context, I'm a avg sized woman, with a pretty avg appetite. Regardless, every dish was delicious.
I will start off by saying this is a very nice restaurant with delicious food. We were brought delicious fresh baked sour dough and a few other treats from the kitchen. The price is pretty steep, but we did have a great dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The main course is modestly sized and the appetizers comically small (Lobster Tortellini had 5 dime sized pastas!).
Bin there a few times however its bin a while but from my experience i do nothing but recommend it !
Unique dining experience in a rustic Calgary setting. Service was good and food tasty. Was a bit hard to find staff near the end of our Christmas dinner, but was admittedly during busy evening. Would go again anytime. Parking can be a challenge during Zoo bridge construction.
Excellent food and good service.
Went to a wedding here Wonderful venue and awesome staff. Food wasn't amazing.
Nice restaurant with old fashioned cooking! The restaurant is located at the old downtown Calgary. Nice area and nice place, the food was good, tasty and to perfection. The only thing the size was very small. Drinks were overpriced. However, the overall experience was good
the food here is absolutely incredible
Amazing experience. From the moment we walked in, from service to food, everything was exceptional. I cannot even begin to describe the love and quality that must have gone into our meal and experience. Drinks were great and the wine list was extensive and luxurious. Definitely will have to revisit just for that. Thanks Rouge for the amazing anniversary dinner, will definitely return. Must try hidden gem, would very highly recommend.
Food is outstanding if a bit precious for me. Price is VERY expensive. Hard to get a reservation at, but worth it for a special occasion.
Dinner was a celebration. Everything was lovely and well presented. Food was good. But portions were wee on lite side.
Meal type
The six course chef’s menu was fabulous last night! Every course had delicious fun umami flavours and utilized local vegetables and edible flowers from the Rouge garden. The soup was hands down favourite course. Not only was the plating beautiful, the intricate flavours that kept us guessing was one of the best soups we’ve ever had! Chef Dean Fast did an amazing job making our food beautiful, local and absolutely delicious! The timing between courses was perfect. The service was also amazing! I would really like to acknowledge our server, she brought up our food/drinks several flights of steps, wearing a mask and was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about every aspect of our meal. She really added class and atmosphere to our evening. Looking forward to next time!
Enjoyed the wild Alberta wine paired 6 course meal immensely. Can't wait to go back!
Took our company here for our holiday party. With the smaller size of our team, we found it hard to find a place where we could have our own room and private dinning experience without having to push the budget with a hefty minimum spend. Rey and her team delivered an exceptional meal with great service, all in a room that fit 14 of us well. Will definitely be more organized for next time and book farther out, but in the 10 days they had to accommodate, it is amazing the experience they were able to give us! Highly recommend! Thanks Rouge team!
Attended a wedding here and it was very well done. Good food and service.
Meal type
Amazing service and staff! We had our wedding here, and couldn't ask for better. They were so attentive to all allergies, the food was incredible, and wine glasses were never empty! Well worth a visit for a meal, or any fancy event.
We ate here for my son's 18th birthday. We had the chef's tasting menu with wine accompaniment. The service was astounding. The food was terrific and the wine choices were stunning.
Not what it used to be
It's really tasty, but it's hard to feel like it's good value. Maybe I'm just a poor boy from the north, but it's too pretentious for me. If you like the pomp of fine dining, maybe you would like it more, but it's not really for me.
Genuine atmosphere. Food was good. Service was pleasant.
Our favorite restaurant. Did not disappoint.
Great restaurant. The did and drinks were dynamite.
Service
Food and service are nice. But still more pricey than most high end restaurant, also gratuities of 20% than usual 18%.
An amazing restaurant in a historical house. A very helpful staff I took the time to contact their offshift sommelier to ensure that we had a pairing to our taste. We shared the charcuterie but were blown away by the beef carpaccio and had to have a second serving. We will be back beyond a doubt.
Excellent service and wonderful meals. Attended an event hosted at this venue. Adequately sized room for 15 people. There is a screen for projector.
Amazing food and exceptional service.
Too many thoughts about our experience to express, but overall it was less than average. They should seriously consider closing to the public when hosting weddings as they could not keep up with the service. The business could use a really good shakeup to rekindle what they used to be.
Again insanely expensive the staff could use a little bit more polish and the food while good so it was in smallish portions... but then it is a French restaurant
Dinner
Meh not worth the price
I find this place so romantic - its something to wait for a reservation date to finally be here and its one thing to enjoy every moment of it - each time I visit this place - it reminds me of a farm where I had the chance to kill for my food and harvest for my desert! Their farm to fork concept with major selection of wine is best paired with the great service I always get when here!
Delicious food, intimate ambient and very professional staff. Great spot for celebrations and quiet conversations.
Awesome food. Awesome staff definitely a diamond in the rough. Inglewood you're very lucky to have such an amazing place for people to have fine dining at. I never thought I'd eat Brussels sprouts but damn it was good lol . I had the Beef main course And it was definitely worth it. It's best served as med rare by chef standards but the chef made the exception of making it medium for me... it was still perfect. Our server's her name slipped my mind. But all I can say she a sweet blonde girl with long hair. A bit timid at first lol like me but throughout the night opened up. She made my night a wondrful experience . ( my receipt says server D) but that could be anyone. :)
Amazing food and an excellent service! I highly recommend it! Their halibut is very tasty! The rabbit too if you like rabbit! We were there September 2015
Good food but definitely overrated. If you're looking for a higher class meal in calgary, go to Bridgette Bar. It's a bit cheaper and definitely better. I still can't believe I paid 40+ for a meal that was just okay. The ambience also wasn't for me. Some people may like it, just wasn't my style. The food though was my style, it just wasn't that great. Very underwhelmed. Both me and my partner left and said "Yea I don't think I'll ever go back there"
Lovely and the food is great.
Sad we couldnt go in, but we experienced ghost voices telling us the colour of the house through our spirit box. Will go back again and order food & spirit box.
I always love Tenderloins for my main course and it was perfectly done. They just served it all well and was surprised that it was all superb. I enjoyed this Flourless Chocolate Torte, a must try and the wine selections are vast and their service is superb. Don’t forget to try as well.
Meal type
Stopped by here while passing through Calgary with my parents. My local pals had been hyping this place up for awhile, so we thought it would be good to get caught up over dinner and cocktails. Pretty average experience. Drinks were okay and the boar belly was decently done. Maybe they just need to find their stride again post-pandemic. Seemed a little understaffed.
Small portion with over priced tag. Food is mediocre
Service was excellent. Dinner largely missed the mark. Ordered 6 course tasting for 110, but I don't think I'll go back for it for a long time.
Was told by management not to "lean" on the dinner table.
One of the best restaurants in Calgary. Way better than Deane house down the street. Their food here is much better and way better tasting. I’ll be back for sure
Chef's table is amazing!
Well I'm really enjoy tonight nice wine
Amazing Food. Highly recommended.
Trash
Great food. Good prices for high end dining. Do the chef's menu. It's a good idea.
Minimal choice French cuisine with excellent service. Main course and dessert quite filling with lovely mushroom appetizers Slightly expensive.
Great service, fantastic food, wonderful ambience.
Always the best of the best fine dining. Even the takeaway meals during Covid were amazing, and as someone who cook and creates for Calgary’s elite I do not say that lightly.
My favorite place to dine in calgary! Paul and Olivier outdone themselves time and again. I highly recommend the tasting menu...as a picky eater Paul has opened my eyes to a whole new world of flavor opportunities. Well done, every time. And the staff...cant say enough good things about them...
It's Rouge.
We lucked out with our timing having the restaurant to ourselves for the first half of our meal. It made the dinner feel very private and personal. Everything about our time at Rouge made it an absolute 5 star experience. The food was excellent, service was kind and courteous and the ambiance was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended
Visited long ago and this feedback is overdue (I recall because I emailed the owner to thank them). The service is amazing and the food phenomenal.
I love their philosophy that every plate served should include fresh food grown in their garden.
Fantastic, great service awesome food overall experience was great!!
Fantastic! The shrimp and grits was top shelf and the complimentary oysters were so dang delicious.
Always excellent food, wine pairings and service.
Courtesy of the Rouge restaurant and Global news. We won a fantastic picnic basket. Included in the basket was a salad, wild loin of boar, potatoes and a variety of veggies. A chocolate mousse. Much more. Will go back for a sit down supper
Dine in
Simply wonderful...from the atmosphere to the service to the food, nothing disappointed in the slightest! We had the tasting menu paired with wine, every selection was the perfect accompaniment for the delicious and beautiful dishes we enjoyed. Perfect choice for that special dinner????
By far the coolest and most authentic restaurant I’ve eaten at in Calgary.
Unbelievable six course dinner. Highly recommend to anyone who loves high quality food. Each course was well thought out and played beautifully!
Too many Negatives versus very few Positives: the building is cute and the service is OK, the wine and food taste is also good but nothing special, the staff is friendly and kinda well trained and attentive, there are so many of them around that you'll get attention as you call for it! On the negative side, the appetizer portion/sizes are ridiculous and offensive compared to their price tags, the place has so much potential but they have not worked it out and looks really bold and empty, the table set-up is also funny and completely out of place. Perfect for those that have always had greasy fast food and treat themselves to so called 'fine dining' in this restaurant but for those who have travelled around, it would be rather considered scam. I suggest the owner(s) go to Italy and learn how to set up a chic place as the potential is there. BTW, please renovate the floor and the curtains, they look awful. I think you earn enough from the guests, considering the fat bills, to refurbish the place that much! And please also remove that coin plate for tips for taking the jackets, it's completely out of place if you consider your restaurant an up-scale one.
Attended a wedding here and it was very well done. Good food and service.
The food, presentation, atmosphere and service can't be beat.
Classic timeless food is alway elegant. Very beautiful restaurant especially when spring is in bloom. Excellent place for a date! Alway have this place in my back pocket. Staff are always friendly.
Best French food in the city
Nice and delicious food but a bit expensive.
Service
Fantastic service, food and wine. A favourite place to eat and enjoy friends company.
One of my favorite seasonal and fine dining experiences in Calgary. Eating here is more than a meal, it’s an experience.
Good food but lacking flavourful taste (soup and beef tenderloin) Good presentation. Art on the walls was very nice. Old building, not in the boutique kind of way.
A wonderful place. With brilliant food and service. What a gem with such a beautiful location as well.
Great atmosphere n service n food. Could expand wine menu.
Went here for a birthday dinner and was so happy I did. Truly an amazing place. Incredible food and the most polite and accommodating staff. If the weather's nice enough I'd definitely recommend sitting outside; it's a gorgeous patio with wedding-style tents and hanging lights. It's a pricey place but worth every penny!
Chef Darnell truly amazed us tonight with an incredibly diverse tasting menu. Never have I felt so spoiled. I will be dreaming about the carrot sorbet for years to come.
Dinner
Super delicious food. But for the price and quantity, it's not worth it unless you're Scrooge McDuck
Love this great restaurant !! Beautiful older house. They grow all their own vegetables ... a garden on the property !!
Went for our anniversary and had a great service as soon as you step in the door. We were greeted a warm welcome, recommended a nice dish. Would definitely recommend!!!
Each dish was presented very elegantly. Each bite is a new experience of life brought out into each course. The atmosphere was romanticized with a beautiful fire place, with candles inside and modern art of the mountains and streams of Alberta. The building has a rich history as well. Love every minute!
I don’t even know where to start. We went there for our anniversary and tried their 6 course meal paired with wines and it was delicious! The staff was really nice and they did a great job of keeping everyone safe.
First time eating there. Both the service and the meal were exceptional. From salad to dessert it was all delicious top to bottom. Highly recommend for a night you want to treat yourself to something special.
Wonderful private rooms that are great for Christmas parties.
I find rouge to be a bit of a funny restaurant. Before we went there, family and friends warned us it was quite pretentious. Which, depending on your outlook could be true however, we found the wait staff outgoing and friendly, and …
Service
The food here is amazing. I always enjoy coming here because the food is so fancy and tasty. I came here with my boyfriend on Valentine Day and it was lovely!
What a great dinner night with friends. A very old and quaint house from the early 1900's. Peter our server was fantastic.
I didn’t get a chance to try the food, but my family and I went for a tour of the property as a possible venue for our wedding. It was beautiful and the garden was looking wonderful with fresh produce the owner said he uses in the food! Recommend anyone to come here for fine food and great service!
We were here for a wedding. Food, decor, and staff were all very good.
We went here as part of a team holiday's dinner. Wonderful experience. Every dish was detailed and well presented. Taste was right on par as well. The fish chowder in particular got compliments amongst many of us. Service was great as expected.
Food is outstanding if a bit precious for me. Price is VERY expensive. Hard to get a reservation at, but worth it for a special occasion.
Went back here to celebrate our 20th anniversary! The place looks the same, with great local at hanging around the restaurant. The chef prepared an excellent meal, catering to our new found food insensitivies. We would love to come back here inn the new future do our kids can see the Cross House.
Good atmosphere, food is bland, not exciting and kind of disappointing.
Absolutely incredible restaurant!! The waiter was amazing and was so quick to adjust and accomodate to our tables dietary needs. The food was out of this world! The flavours in each dish came together in a beautiful symphony in my mouth. It is also so inspiring that they grow a lot of their own produce that they use in their dishes. Would recommend this place a million times over!
Dinner
I arrive at this superb restaurant many times because I like the good mood that is exist in this restaurant. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and well trained. The service is very efficient. Not to mention, the food you eat is highly distinguished. I visited many times and I was always satisfied. The expense is fair. I highly recommend this place to to everybody.
Cool, expensive food that left much to be desired. Great atmosphere good service. The best dish was the Spicy Mixed Greens. The beef and duck were cool when arrived at our table. Both were tough to chew. The (included) dab of Hollandaise wasn't enough to complement the main dish. Considering tonight's experience, I do not recomend this restaurant. The two star rating are my complements to the staff and great presentation.
Sooo good! We had the 6 course dinner with wine pairing. It was exquisite. Sat on the beautiful patio and toured their kitchens garden. Plating was beautiful, food was rave worthy, wine pairings were perfect and the service was excellent. Worth every dollar.
Interesting concept but it is very formal.
Great food and atmosphere
The ambiance was very cozy. The service was excellent and very friendly. We chose the epicurean experiance and its was delicious ! We will definitely go back !
We had such an amazing wedding here! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere and service was phenomenal. Great restaurant on the edge of downtown!
All together acceptable. The ambiente of this old house needs a good interior designer so that at least the curtains fit in to the house and to the windows. The tomatoe salad as an entree was superb! The lamb sirloin as a main unfortunately …
Very nice setting
highly recommended
The food here is excellent. We had a 3 course meal based on ingredients sourced from Alberta and the restaurants own garden. Everything was delicious and the service enhanced the experience. The wine pairings were spot on and the ambiance was unmatched. They had set up a patio for their dining area and watching the sunset through the garden was really something to behold. The music selection matched the environment they were trying to create. The whole experience was top notch. I think this place is great for special occasions or if you want to treat yourself. I am already looking forward to an excuse to come here again
Service
Great food. Great wine. Great service....
Rouge has been our special occasion restaurant for a while. It never ceases to impress (though at a worthy cost). Thank you for hosting our pandemic wedding dinner, and the 1 year anniversary of such as well!!
Such delicious food and very attentive staff, but definitely not for the faint of wallet
Try the fish and chips!
So amazing as always!
My fiance and me had come to celebrate our anniversary and an early Valentine's day. We had the Valentines day tasting menu with wine pairings Overall it was a very average meal. Some standout dishes, some not great dishes. Fair enough when its a set menu, not everything was what we would have chosen but willing to try. Wine pairings were the same, 2/6 were great, 2/6 weren't good at all. 2/6 were just ok. But also not a big deal when we just wanted to try different things. What really killed it was the service. Normally things like this wouldn't be a big deal, but for a place that bills itself as a fine dining restaurant they shouldn't be happening. Service wasn't very attentive. We had multiple wine glasses sitting empty from a few courses earlier. We were served bread and a macaron as an appetizer (delicious by the way) but the empty plate was not cleared from our table until after 3 courses and I had to place it on the edge of the table. Little things like that should not be happening. I had also emailed the restaurant a week ahead of time that we would be there to celebrate our anniversary. When we had sat down, the waitress had asked if we were there to celebrate anything else. I appreciate the effort of asking, but I had already reached out to the restaurant about this. I feel like this is something that should be noted in the reservations. Overall not bad, but not a standout place. I probably wouldn't return considering the misses with the service there were. If it was a place that billed itself as casual dining then I wouldn't be as bothered by these misses.
Amazing food, beautiful presentation, excellent service.
Incredible food and service! Highly recommend this place for a date, intimate group or family dinner!
Beautiful rustic restaurant outside of downtown. Food is immaculate, service phenomenal and the setting is divine.
Absolutely the best wedding I could have ever dreamt of. Food was fantastic and Chelsea was a dream to work with. Highly recommend having a date night here or having your special event here. Simply amazing.
5 stars based on execution and service. We started with the charcuterie; it came with some chorizo, which was soooo good. It also comes with foie gras, which was very well done. If you don't want to get the full charcuterie, at least get the foie gras. My main was the halibut. It had a nice sear and the dish is well balanced. There's a lot of flavours working together beautifully with the fish and its accompaniments. My bf had the lamb; great flavour that wasn't overwhelmed by the dishes other components. We were outside and the ambiance was so lovely. They have lights strung up and the garden is well kept. Overall, a really great and satisfying date night experience!
Service was great. I should know better than to order Eggs Benedict. Biscuit tasted like a day old tea biscuit. Eggs managed to have firm yolks and runny whites. Hollandaise sauce was all but missing. There could have been lobster in there - a molecule or two maybe. Smoked trout was good but would have been much better by itself.
I was brought here for our anniversary. Beautiful, very high class and antique.
We had to epicurean experience and we had an amazing night. Each of the 6 courses were a tasteful suprise. We took the wine pairing extra and it made the experience even more enjoyable. Our waiter was professional and friendly. He had a perfect knowledge of all the meals and wines he served us. He told us they change the menu quite often so we will be back for sure to have another experience soon.
All together acceptable. The ambiente of this old house needs a good interior designer so that at least the curtains fit in to the house and to the windows. The tomatoe salad as an entree was superb! The lamb sirloin as a main unfortunately was a bit flat tasting. I missed the characteristc taste of lamb. Unfortunately the strawberry cheescake was out.
Absolutely amazing delicious fine cuisine!!!
Wonderful evening at Rouge! Superb delectable food & great attentive service. Lamb was amazing. 3 appies all superb. My boys had duck which they ranted about. Topped off with their homemade caramels rather than store bought mints, etc!
It was just alright, but I wouldn't return to Rouge. The food quality and atmosphere are not great, and the menu was limited.
Had our company Christmas party here. The food was amazing and the staff where great. Especially since I know we can get a little rowdy. Historical building was absolutely stunning.
This is by far my favourite restaurant in Calgary. If I could afford to eat here more often, I would! The servers always go above and beyond to cater to their guests. The food is exceptional and unique. Defintely the best duck dish in the city. The environment is intimate and romantic but also feels like home as it's set in an old house. I highly reccommend this place for any special occassion or date night.
Delicious and interesting dishes. Nice atmosphere.
Fantastic lunch.
Great service, easy parking and exceptionally different Canadian ingredient food. There is always something to try and to learn when eating here.
The SAD Club (Southern Alberta Dinner Club) held our January Event here this evening. As usual, the food was amazing. Everyone was so impressed with the Chef's Tasting. The Staff that looked after our group deserve 10 Stars also. Absolutely Impeccable Service! Thank You for an Enjoyable Evening!
If you see duck, order duck!!! I had Veal, soaked in sauce, could have been anything under it.
Food was pretty blend not creative... Flavours were there
This is the second time I have come here and both times have been amazing. The atmosphere is intimate and classy. Perfect for a romantic date. The food was excellent. I can't remember the last time I had duck that was so perfectly prepared. The wild boar was excellent as well. The service was top notch. We had three different people check in and they were all wonderful.
Excellent food and drink. Very accommodating to our vegetarian diet.
My favorite escape from the world, staff so sweet and the spirits that reside within this historic gem never disappoint to make your experience feel as though you have stepped into another time.
What an amazing menu and their is truly a gem!
Our overall experience did not match with our expectations for a highly rated restaurant
Some of the best food I've ever had. And the service was exceptional. Our server was so entertaining and helpful. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Award winning, Unique, beautiful, authentic restaurant, with tastey ,fresh and specially prepared food . Wonderful, friendly staff make this a unique experience.
Amazing!
I cannot stress what a wonderful little gem this place is. We were there on the weekend celebrating our 5 year anniversary and went with the Chef's 6 course meal. Absolutely amazing. The staff were excellent and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant!
My second time here and truly the most wonderful meal. When you take your first bite it’s like your whole soul escapes into some other very happy place! Words here don’t do the culinary art and flavour here any justice. You must go and see for yourself. Everything is fresh and you can truly tell the difference. Thank you for another exceptional supper Rouge!
Second time there. Extremely overpriced for quality and quantity. Recommend going somewhere else. Servers rarely ask about their service and food. The server also complained about collecting payments from our party separately, and mentioned "usually only one person pays for everybody" I don't know where this expectation comes from, haven't you worked or gone anywhere to dine? Dissapointing service .
Great food, service and atmosphere! The garden is beautiful!
Nice atmosphere and knowledgeable staff
Excellent service and the food was delicious! Highly recommend sitting outside, overlooking the garden
Love love this place the food is to die for
Tried the foie gras brulee, venison, and the pheasant. All were delicious and prepared perfectly. Amazing presentation. Fantastic experience all around and I will definitely be coming back.
Dinner
Fantastic parking lot!
Excellent gourmet foods and services. We had such a special time.
Food was phenomenal and the service impeccable. I highly recommend it.
I'm comparing this restaurant to the other tasting menus I've been to so take it with a grain of salt as the comparison is against the best of the best. The pacing of the menu was very good. The service was excellent and the decor is beautiful. The food itself was good, not great. No dish blew me away but there was also no miss. The wine pairings I would say were on the weaker side. They matched well with the food but I felt none of the wines really enhanced any of the dishes. Overall definitely worth going to.
Love love love this place. Menu is great and it's the perfect atmosphere for a date or special occasion.
Awesome food, absolutely amazing staff. Alk in all 10 out of 10 Brenda Mork
We had the 6 course chef’ dinner which consisted of extremely well prepared dishes with fascinating and unique details. Every dish was beautifully presented and the service was excellent. The wine parings I understand were unique and perfect. Everything was great.
Delicious pasta
They have the BEST lamb. Not everywhere can make lamb well so it's worth coming just for that.
Beautiful atmosphere with very good quality service. I would rate their food to be be quite excellent, however I would no longer give it the distinction of being the best in Calgary any longer. I was rather disappointed in the wine pairings. Most pairings were quite good, however the idea of pairing a dry style reisling with fois gras still has me bewildered. One of the guests I dined with suggested that perhaps they didn't want to open the appropriate bottle of wine for this pairing given that we were one of the final guests doing the chefs tasting that evening. I have to say I think this observation is likely correct. I think once it was realized I'm an avid wine collector and enthusiast, they did bring around a nice extra portion of fois gras with a more appropriate pairing. ( first world problems, I know ). None the less, I was a bit critical with my rating as the restaurant really is falling away from being the best Calgary has to offer. In any Michelin restaurant I've ever been to, the Sommelier always serves the wine, not sure why that isn't done here. Hope my feedback is seen as being constructive and one that emplores Rouge to strive to improve.
This place is very unique elegant fun I really like vintage placesI would like the history of this place my niece is getting married but this vendor in Septemberthey have a lot of rooms to pick if you want to have a wedding there or you can rent the whole house or if you want to go for dinner then you can even just do that highly recommend this place for either one it is well worth it
Incredible service and amazing food. Easily one of Calgary's finest dining experiences.
Wow, what an incredible experience for our anniversary! The food and service was exceptional! We will be back again for sure.
We ate here before but the food has actually better before.
Dine in
Nice restaurant, good food and service. Price:$$$$ For those who don’t want to splurge It has a sister restaurant bistro rouge, which is a bit modern and not as pricy Ambiance : perfect for date night or any type of meetings (family, friends, etc)
Love our weekly visits here... Especially in summer time on their fully covered patio. Upscale experience, tranquil environment were you can have a nice conversation. Highly recommended. P.S. amazing cappuccino
The tasting menu was wonderful, amazing atmosphere beautiful presentation, and an incredible dining experience. Highly recommended!
Last night we went to Rouge for a small family birthday. We were seated in a quaint private room. We all had a wonderful time. Service was attentive and the meal was just what we expected from their new Chef de Cuisine Dean Fast. Altogether it was a great night!
I highly recommend the chef's menu. (And the amazing wine pairings if you can handle that much alcohol.) This place was first-class. Amazing atmosphere, service, and food. We went for our 10th anniversary dinner. It was absolutely mind-blowingly fantastic. Thank you.
It’s disappointing that I have to give this review, but our service last night at one of our former favourite restaurants was simply unacceptable! We’ve been patrons of Rouge for the last three years and our past experiences have been nothing less than stellar. Last night, however, was a very different story. Service from the get-go was off the mark. First, our server was unable to properly remove the cork from our bottle of wine, which wasn’t entirely her fault to be honest, as it was obviously dried out from the bottle being stored vertically for an extended period of time. That wouldn’t have been a problem normally, except that her behaviour afterwards was short and pretentious – we don’t need you to explain to us how a decanter works, and we don’t want to have our bottle of expensive French wine “filtered” since you dropped a plethora of dried cork fragments into the bottle due to your inability to open it properly in the first place. A “manager” came by shortly afterward, but her attitude wasn’t much better, so we decided to get up and leave. We love supporting local businesses but won’t be returning to this establishment.
Amazing food... Especially the house made bread.
Rouge My sister and I had been wanting to eat at Restaurant Rouge for quite some time. Our busy schedules only made it happen on October 18th 2018 as my sister had her birthday dinner at that location. The food we ate was exactly what we expected; delicious. BUT…….the service offered by the waitress assigned to our table was lamentable. Here are a few "highlights" of the evening: 1. Upon observing that several glasses were placed in such way that it made it difficult to determine which one belonged to whom, one of our guests asked our waitress to assist her in determining which glass belonged to her. She responded in a condescending way saying: "water glasses were always on the right". At first, this may seem inoffensive. However, all it took was a quick look at the table to legitimize the question asked. 2. A bottle of wine was ordered. At some point, the guest who had ordered that bottle asked our waitress to pour some for others siting at the table. The waitress said: "we don’t do this here". It left many of us confused. We enquired further to understand what she meant. It turns out that she thought that a bottle of wine was brought in from outside. Problem is we had not brought in our own wine and there was no reason for her to believe that we had. Why make that assumption? 3. Earlier in the evening, someone had called upon her to assist and get an additional drink. She turned around and said: "What?". While I had noticed that the tone was pretty abrupt and had an undertone of impatience, I did not comment as I gave her the benefit of the doubt. In light of the other occurrences of the evening I now wonder … 4. Later in the evening, a guest asked questions about the menu and as she was about to place an order, the waitress said "I will take your order when I take everyone else's". It was unequivocal to all of us that she was once again being rude and condescending. 5. Lastly, when our orders came, our main waitress had not properly instructed the other servers/waitresses as to which plate went where. They were confused to such a degree that OUR PLATES WERE MOVED OUT OF OUR SIGHT to try and figure the whole thing out. It is at this time that one of the guests advocated for the group and said that she had enough of the waitress. That same guest continued on and said that it was inappropriate to place a plate in front of a client, remove it, disappear with several plates and later come back with them. Our waitress disappeared and never came back. Notwithstanding the fact that the replacement crew was much better, we were surprised to hear someone who appeared to be the Manager, say that our previous waitress was one of their best! Considering the poor service we had received, what should we make of this comment? Any person with a little bit of insight would reassess the situation and determine whether or not had been the author of their own demise. However, after discussing between ourselves, we were all convinced that we did not deserve any of it. This raises another question. If this is the best or one of the best waitresses; it is unfortunate that while a Chef is providing us with the best food, a waitress is negating it all! Our most vocal advocate said that she would not return to this restaurant. I interjected and said that the food was too good for me to concur. 24 hours later, I changed my mind. No food is good enough to accept to be treated in a condescending and unprofessional manner. It is unfortunate.
Belated review, had my wedding reception held here last year, they were super accommodating and allowed us to bring my vintage dishes to serve dinner on and even washed everything for us. Also had a beautiful garden that we took alot of pictures in. Food and service was fab as well. Thank you Rouge!
My boyfriend and I were gifted a $220 GC so we could experience the tasting menu, we were super excited for this experience. I have worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years and fine dining for 5. I understand the pricing of a tasting menu, as well as the quality over quantity. We were a little disappointed by the tasting menu, I didn't understand where the quality matched the price of a $110. A couple pieces of cured salmon, a bite of tofu with 3oz of potato soup, liver pate with crackers, 3 small beef slices, goat cheese and crackers, finished with dessert. We both left hungry. We were unsure who our actual server was during our experience but overall, we did enjoy the ambience of the patio it was exactly what we hoped for. What really left us with bad experience was when we tried paying for our bill. We put our GC and CC on top of the bill fold on the edge of the able and waited for somebody to process it. We watched the table beside us be processed and leave, 15 minutes later the male manager came by and grabbed our GC, he said he would be right back and went inside. We watched him come back outside and walk past our table 3 times to process other tables bills with a machine. Finally, another 10 minutes later he walked over and insincerely apologized for the wait. We were extremely disappointed by this. There were 2 servers and 2 managers serving us all night, walking around and nobody stopped to help us. We always tip %20, but this quickly dropped, we even noticed the sour look on the gentlemen's faces when he noticed the low tip afterwards.
This is my favourite restaurant in Calgary. It has been my preferred 'go to' for 7 years now because it is ALWAYs a great experience and never disappoints. The food, of course is 5 star! We always chose the tasting menu with premium wine pairing. The staff are professional and attentive, they are experienced and know exactly when to 'swoop in' to serve the next plate and when to interrupt your meal or conversation. I never have to look for someone and never have to ask for attention.
This place is great with one exception, will get to that later, the service was outstanding, best ive ever had. The food was to die for, i usually have my meat well done but the sirlon i had was med rare when i received it, sceptigal i was going to eat it as the server never asked how i like my steak. But it was great. The only downfall is the small portions & the soup was way to hot. But still a great place.
Service
Food was great, however it was not enough to set off the creepy setting and staff. It was like being served dinner by a mortician. Great place for a catered funeral
Food was very tasty. Unfortunately a wedding and missing staff made the evening not as smooth as I would have liked. In their defense, the staff were highly apologetic and bent over backwards to try and run things smoothly.
Lovely place, great food, great staff. Came here on a "me" data hahaha. Great work guys.
Went for our anniversary dinner here. The food was spectacular! Service by Taylor was fantastic! Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Can't wait to go back!
Hands down the best meal I have ever ate. The wild boar belly has ruined my life.... colours no longer exist and everything is grey and tasteless in comparison. I will be back for more as often as possible.
Did not try their tasting menu, the price tag is a bit too high. $110 per person, which is ironically about the same as our dinner + liquor for 2 people. I would consider this place a must try for everybody, as they provide a very enjoyable dinning experience.
Very nice.
Bistro Rouge is a terrific new dinning experience in the west end of the city. It is without question the best and most flavourful dining west of the Sarcee Trail.
Meal type
Was lucky enough to enjoy a chef tasting menu! Can I just say...INCREDIBLE. 6 course meal with wine pairings for each?! This wasn't just a meal it was an experience. kuddos!
We met with friends at this place for lunch. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. Well, we were not disappointed. we were warmly welcomed by the staff members and we felt good. The food was just great. We loved this place a lot and we will definitely return to this restaurant. We recommend this place to all.
Unbelieveable. Richard our waiter was so knowledgeable about wines. He is awesome. Food was amazing. You have to go here
The food from the tasting menu was unbelievably good!! Highly recommend eating at Rouge!!
Great service, great food.
Absolutely amazing! Exceptional service from Rebecca! FOOD was amazing, perfectly prepared and presented! Wine list is extensive and recommendation for the Bison was perfect. Looking forward to going back!!
Fine food, in a very pleasant setting.
very flavourful, great presentation, friendly knowledgable staff.
Update: We went back to Rouge for dinner after Ray reached out to us. Ray is simply wonderful.. she made really good recommendations and I loved the wine list. We enjoyed the service and the atmosphere and can’t wait to be back. The garden is lovely needless to say.
Lovely old house converted into a restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly without hovering. The food was stellar! I highly recommend the shrimp and grits, and the fois gras appetizer was simply delightful. I will be returning whenever possible!
Delicious food. And beautiful rustic feel to the house love the idea.
Fabulous food and nice historic feel. Great downtown location.
My boyfriend and I went to Rouge on Halloween for dinner. We ordered the chefs special. It was extremely misleading with the waiter telling us it was $120... which ended up being EACH!. Our bill came to $400 and wasn't worth $20!!! everything that came out was under or over cooked. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There is way to many great restaurants to waste time or money on this place!!!
Food was delicious, friendly service, nice atmosphere. You get what you pay for.

Visited Rouge for Valentine's tasting menu. It was amazing. Couldn't find anything about the dress code for Rouge so I thought I'd let people know that I felt very comfortable wearing nice jeans and collared shirt. Definitely visit again
An amazing dining experience! The 6 course meal we had was of super high quality and the wine pairings were exceptional! Excellent French cuisine from farm fresh local ingredients! We celebrated my wife's birthday and they exceeded my expectations with a beautiful birthday desert and card. Would definitely recommend for a romantic night out.
Food with the homey feel, but that pops with flavor. Great location, great service
What an amazing place! True discovery. We couldn't believe we still in Calgary. Delicious food, romantic atmosphere and GREAT service. Definitely coming back! Thank you ????
Amazing food
The price is on the high side however the food in great! The atmosphere and quality of ingredients is exceptional. I will be visiting Rouge again.
Awesome food, amazing service. We did the tasting menu and the standard wine pairing... and talked about it for 3 days afterwards. The waiter was fantastic and he taught us about the wine and the historic restaurant. I can't say enough good things, but this would be my 4th tasting menu/wine pairing experience at various restaurants. I would suggest that restuarants of this caliber are not about one plate of "fancy" food (the series of dishes is an experience!), and that you get the tasting menu; and unless you are a sommelier, let the waiter be your guide and get the wine pairings. One of the best touches to this place? Lots of the gorgoeus art on the walls and some pieces are for sale. We'll be back in summer for the seasonal menu!!
My fiancé and I came here tonight for dinner and tried the Chef’s Six course Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing, what a great dining experience. Wonderful ambiance, food and the service was excellent. Will come here again and highly recommend :) I wish I could remember the name of our server but she is originally from Japan and a big shout out to her ! Thanks so much again :)
Amazing food and service!
Great service, food and atmosphere.
This is a beautiful restaurant, very cozy as its actually a very old house that was converted. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is AMAZING!! The chef's experience is always different but never ceases to be delicious. Clean French cuisine with a touch of imagination, wonderful wine pairings and a very intimate setting makes this my favorite date night destination.
Way too expensive for the portions, and limited choices.
Was part of the Southern Alberta Dinner Club group who went last night. The food was delicious, the service phenomenal (there were 35 of us and there wasn't one hiccup! Food was served promptly, with adequate time between courses, they were very attentive to us, and very knowledgeable of the food and wine they were serving. Absolutely amazing staff!) and the atmosphere was enjoyable as well! Thank you for accommodating us :)
Outstanding food and service.
we had a very good dinner here.
Chef tasting menu and wine pairing was amazing! Our waitress was the best. I found out I don't like fois Gras and the waitress without question brought me something else. Set in an old house with an eerie atmosphere. Which I love. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food and great atmosphere.
Came here during the Christmas holidays and the service was exceptional and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
Lovely food. Great ambience.
The food is nice, but it's pricey, the setting is kind of cool, being a retrofit old house, street parking is easy access. I visited with my family, it was okay. Unfortunately a bit too cramped for my liking. Our server was 7/10. We were not drinking, and I felt like we were being ignored a bit more because of it. It was a good experience, but I don't think it's for me
Only at the height of human hubris, delusion and very specifically disorganized self deception could one consider this place graceful, tasteful or quality. It’s not a restaurant: it’s an old, repurposed shack. They don’t serve gourmet cuisine - it’s ill proportioned cat food foisted upon over-large and cheap dishware, offered up violent and unironic, one miserable course after another. For a French restaurant, the only half decent wine they serve is Italian. As a bad restaurant, they manage to pair tasteless, boorish food with an equally disaffected wait staff. From the bottom of my heart, I condemn this place to hell. Everyone who visits this nightmare is worse for doing so.
