Cheap price if you want to rent a car
I was supposed to get a car to fit 2 car seats and 3 bags I show up and they stick me with a compact car and try to upgrade me to another 100 dollars for the vehicle size I was supposed to get. Do not use this place I'll be going back to payless and budget.
Thrifty location does not open until 5am and guard shack does not provide you with information where to drop your vehicle off if you need to get to the airport. All other shuttle/rental car companies open earlier to meet the flight times of the Detroit Airport. I have made a note for my travels that Thrifty will not be used in Detroit. Service folks were nice, lot was dirty and car was decent.
DOES NOT OPEN UNTIL 5AM IF YOU HAVE EARLY FLIGHT. Nobody there until 5. Despite spending lots of time trying to upsell you when picking up your car, they don't bother to tell you they don't open until 5. Several of us had to leave the car and I went over to enterprise next door to beg them to take me on their shuttle so I didn't miss my flight. The other places appear to all be open. Enterprise definitely was and shuttle driver said he has to "save" 2 or 3 thrifty/dollar renters every night. And that's just him. Car was fine though not clean. Note on car said they would reimburse if we washed it, but we didn't, which I assume they expect.
Thrifty rental car company called me the day before my reservation to tell me that they did not have any cars available and that they were cancelling my rental. Thankfully, a friend was able to help me and I was able to make other arrangements, but if it wasn't for my friend bailing me out my entire holiday would have been ruined! Very poor customer service. Definitely not impressed. I will never use Thrifty again and I am telling all my friends not to use this company either.
By far the best car rental downtown. Both in prices, deals and selection of cars. Have hired cars from here over 30 times over the last year and they are clean and well kept vehicles. Although it seems that the airport is their primary outlet in the city.
Horrendous service, understaffed so I had to wait in line for 2 hours to pick up my car. Never again will I give my business to Thrifty.
Booked an intermediate car for one day ( pickup in morning and same day return at 11:00 pm ). Was charged 30 dollars without prior information for under 25 age. Charged 18 dollar extra for weekend. Charged 8.77 for premium location. All these extra charges and the grand total was 70 dollars ( excluding the fuel cost which was borne by me ) which was way higher than the estimate I got on the website. Was almost forced to buy their insurance in spite of having bought my own. The guy at the counter was rude and unfriendly. TL, DR - worst service experience with hidden charges and bad treatment.
Intentionally misled on fees for the rental car. Was over billed and billed more than once. Completely disingenuous.
We waited 45 minutes to check in and get a car we had already paid for. We were happy to do this for the $200 dollars we saved, but then they tacked on 120+ dollars in fees.
Website states they accept Visa Debit. I called twice to confirm and was told there would be no issue. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle the desk Rep refused to accept anything but a major credit card. I called customer service again …
Best car rental company I have dealt with.
The Detroit international airport thrifty and bus folks were super nice.
Was a bit apprehensive after seeing reviews for bogus charges after renting. We actually had a smooth time with thrifty. However i will say that sometimes they give free upgrades and we specifically paid ahead of time for a certain car which wasnt a huge deal but we wanted something we were used to driving (and also midsizes are more gas efficient). We waited only 15 minutes for a manager to find a midsized car for us but he was overly nice and very courteous. Super easy and fast! Shuttle to and from was prompt as well with no waiting. Will book here again if ever needing a rental.
I encountered a hold up due to the stock of vehicles available. The staff were extremely polite and transparent about the situation. I was pleased to hear about their new policies making it easier to pay with debit card. They also made drop off super easy. They handled their jobs well. I'll be back again!
Best place for a rental nice clean cars affordable
The service was fine. The car was incredibly uncomfortable. We rented a silver impala, and the passenger seat was tilted at a 45 degree angle from the rear up to the knees, and could not be adjusted. Check your seat before you leave!
My rental had no issues. Customer service was extremely rude. He would cut you off when you talk and ask for information as if i owed him something. I will never go back there again. i tried them once 6 years ago and had a similar encounter. Enterprise has always been the better option.
The staff was very nice and was quick. We ask for a Ford and at first he said they didn't have one, but then he saw one over in the wash and gas area. So he went and got it for us. :) Excellent Service
They did a good job with me. Applied discounts and quickly got a car
Disappointed after the customer service that I received at Hertz/Thrifty on 2/24/21.1st got there and the luxury vehicle ordered was not available although my customer service desk agent was very helpful to best of her ability and she then upgraded me to a vehicle of choice of which was a 530I BMW. Upon getting into the vehicle I noticed that it was not wipe down, the steering wheel had a white substance in the center, there were finger prints along the wood grain on the passenger and driverside interior door, there were coins on the floor of the back seat, it was evident that it has not been properly vacuumed. The vehicle was wet on the outside with clouded streaks down all the windows from the car wash which no one decided to wipe the car down before giving it to us after spending $1,036 on this rental. My companion went in to speak to the lot manager about my concerns. She came outside to view the vehicle's condition. She explained to us that this was definitely a platinum clean vehicle and that the a sticker that guarantees the cleaning must have been blown off by the wind. The sticker had not been blown off by the wind but what had been blown off was our concerns for the terrible condition the rental was given to us and the unprofessional, lazy, and horrible customer service we were receiving. The climate at the Metro Detroit location was very lazy no one wanted to apply themselves other than the desk agent that checked us in and did all she could to find me a luxury car to my standards. The lot manager had one of the people run the car back through the carwash which made it even worse because they refuse for the second attempt to wipe down the inside of the car nor the outside while the lot manager was standing there to witness the dripping wet vehicle and never once delegated to her subordinate to complete the drying of the rental. Hertz has always been known for its incredible customer service. This lot manager and her car cleaning staff is supposed to represent the company that is Hertz and uphold it's reputation and customer service guarantee. Meanwhile this man that was to clean the car again a second time and still failed to do. He is now walking through the lot yelling at fellow coworkers and having a grandiose day after we were stuck wiping down our own vehicle in a pandemic. This type of behavior should not be tolerated by any reputable business. My thing is, "if you don't want to do the job don't apply for it", and therefore make me the casualty of your lazy sluggish Behavior where you're feeling entitled to make a paycheck after you've done nothing to earn it. I would not recommend Hertz/Thrifty to any of my business colleagues that flies into Metro Airport Detroit. I've received much better treatment at Budget, Avis and Enterprise as well as your other competitors. There was no excuse for this type of treatment because your lobby was empty. There was no business going on that would overwhelming staff to the point that they could not fulfill their duties to the fullest of their abilities. I feel as that those up in management should be evaluated on a monthly basis. I feel you should send secret shoppers to find out exactly what's going on in these locations. Because when there's no one watching some people become drunk with power and feel there's no need to forefill their job commitment to the fullest because there's no one there to police them. I am appalled and totally disrespected and I will not be returning to this location for any rental needs in the future. I understand that Hertz bought Thrifty but it is now Under the Umbrella of Hertz car rental and it should reach the same standards that Hertz lives by. You all are supposed to be at the top of the food chain when it comes to luxury car rental. I have always recommended this company to any of my out-of-town client when it is time to do business in Metro Detroit. Unfortunately that will not be happening anytime in the near future unless I see a tremendous turn around in work performance.
No complaints. Price was perfect. Car was good. Didn't have to wait around for a shuttle back and forth to Detroit Metropolitan Airport. They provided quick transportation back and forth. Put my luggage in their shuttles for me. Please be sure to leave a little tip to the driver if you let them help you. They are not getting rich driving us around. A couple bucks is fine. Myself being disabled, I totally appreciated the help with my luggage. Would definitely rent from them again. I think they are a little busier than some of the other rental agencies, so book in advance if you want to rent from them.
Was told 1 hour before I was supposed to pick up my vehicle that there were none available, they were sold out and couldn't help me.
Got a great deal, staff was helpful, customer service by phone was great, car was in great shap, will use Thrifty again!
Rohan is really doing good job, he suggisted my best kia car on cheaper rate
Good cars. Unfortunately they added unneeded insurance, which I didn't need.
Great experience easy check-in and easy checkout
Great service on our visit. The airport shuttle arrived quickly, and the driver was friendly and talkative. He helped everyone on a full shuttle with their bags and warned us to be careful of potholes. Service at the rental office was also great. The line moved fast, and we had our chosen car in no time.
Absolutely fantastic! Had the Chevy Malibu, absolutely flies. Great service.
Rented a big car from Detroit to be returned to Atlanta and asked for a location of return. The rep assigned me to a downtown Atlanta location. Later found out that this location was closed on Sunday, one day before return. I called to change to a 24 hr open location and was told that I would be charged a change-location-fee. I explained what happened, and the rep refused to waive the charges. Unbelievable!!!
There was a slight issue not with the car or service everything was handled and taken care of. Speedy service no problem renting. Just make sure you're car has been cleaned thoroughly!
Great people and they use every opportunity to give you the best deal and get you in and out.
Extremely poor service. Had a reservation and wasted 50min waiting for someone to arrive at service counter. Every other agency had representitives helping arriving passengers off a few flights. Gave up when airport cleared out and took a taxi to Hotel. Cancelled and rebooked on Enterprise where I received excellent service!
(Translated) to flee... (Original) à fuir...
Terrible customer service. I called 4 different locations, which nobody answered...the fifth location finally answered. I tried calling just to get clarification on the Prepay Fuel, We fuel and You fuel....I was transferred to 9 diff dpts!! 9!!! I was on the phone for 25 minutes.
Very poor customer service. Deposit of $200, car was non smoking, but smoke stinking and the gas tank supposed to be full but it was not completely.
IF I COULD I WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE ONE STAR! I HAD A CAR BOOKED FOR MONTHS NOW . MY FLIGHT HAD A SCHEDULE CHANGE AND THEN WAS DELAYED AND GOT IN 45 MINUTES LATE. THIS COMPANY HELD MY CAR FOR 2 HOURS AS PER THEIR WRITTEN AGREEMENT BUT I WAS OVER THAT BY 1/2 AN HOUR. I WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER MY TIME IF THE AGENT HAD STOPPED CHATTING TO A WOMAN AND GIVING HER ADVISE AND TOURIST AND TRAFFIC INFORMATION LONG ENOUGH TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PAYING CUSTOMER. WHEN SHE FINALLY GOT TO ME SHE SAID -THEY LET MY CAR GO! SO I SAID I WAS OK WITH THAT , I'LL COME GET ONE TOMORROW. THE AGENT SAID THAT NO THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. I WOULD HAVE TO REBOOK!! THEY WANTED ME TO DO THAT AS NOW THE RATE WAS NEARLY DOUBLE. WHOEVER OWNS THIS LOCATION NEEDS TO KNOW THAT THE SERVICE AND POLICIES ARE AWFUL. I WILL NEVER BOOK WITH THRIFTY AGAIN.I WILL BE TAKING THIS FURTHER TO SOMEONE IN THRIFTY CORPORATE AS THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
DO NOT!!!! DO NOT RENT HERE!!!!!!!! CHEATERS Long story short - They make you believe there isn’t any Fuel purchase option on your contract which already added. When you return the vehicle with full tank they charge for fuel purchase option as well. I will not rent from them again. I would not recommend going to this robbers. DON’T GO THRIFTY Thanks
Similar experience to above, but with the Hyde Park location. The sales rep I dealt with (Elaine Cheng) was brutal. It seemed as if she barely knew what she was doing, and she did it all in a hurry. She also later lied to me, in order to try and justify the companies hidden charges. Never doing business with them again, and I encourage others to look elsewhere.
Good car at a good price with quick check in.
(Translated) Very good service, they have always taken me out of trouble (Original) Muy buen servicio, siempre me han sacado de apuros
I usually don't write reviews but this place deserves as many as it can get! The shuttle service from the airport to the store is awesome. ..no complaints there at all. Once you get to the store expect thee WORST customer service in the world! As soon as I walked to the counter my clerk Brandy or Britney (too pissed to remember) was the most Ghetto! Unprofessional, bitter, evil, disrespectful person I have ever encountered. I've been in the military 10 years and I usually just brush people off and walk away. But she was so unbelievable she caused me to act out of character. I began telling her that customer service goes along way and that she was the rudest person I ever met. If you are mad about where you work then get a different job! Thank God I didn't have to see her at the drop off....hopefully she got fired. They do not do a walk around with you to identify scratches, marks or Anything! So make sure you do before you leave. The car looked great..smelt great..looked brand new But I soon found out they do not keep up with the maintenance. ..as soon as we got on the highway the tire pressure lights came on......then 2 days later the car began overheating! I stopped at a gas station, popped the hood and there was ZERO coolant...I don't even know how we were driving for so long..smh My best advice is yes it's the cheaper option but be prepared to be treated like you don't matter....and make sure you do a FULL vehicle inspection before you leave the lot. I also will be filing a complaint with the corporate office. (It was that serious)
I was over charged for a rental. I have an email receipt stating that I should have been charged for two days at 197.52. As soon as I pressed send on the payment, I was charged $296.58. I thought it was a deposit, but it wasn't. When I picked up the car, they had charged me for 3 days. I was given another receipt for 3 days. I explained that was a mistake. They said they would fix it when I returned the car. I returned the car and they didn't fix it. They just added and extra charge that they titled "voucher adjustment" to make up the difference between the 197.52 and the 296.58. Although they had over charged me for an extra day on my original receipt. I called five times and there is no customer service. I emailed Hertz and no response. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever experienced!
Be aware that you could get scam by these people. I got charged twice for my rental and not only is almost impossible to get hold of the customer service, they give you fake numbers that don't exist.
I always rent cars here, very helpful staff.
They have the best car rental place in town
I had a really bad experience getting my rental, it took forever, not something you want to deal with when you traveling So if you in a hurry, stay clear of Thrifty. I saved few dollars but it's not worthwhile. I will go with Enterprises the next time.
Good service. Nice new car.
This Thrifty/Dollar car rental office is a rip off On my resent and first trip to Halifax I had booked a car on line and my original cost for a Toyota camry (or similar) it was: Subtotal of the Rental: CAD $50.00 Taxes and Fees: CAD $22.75 Amount Due at Pick-up: CAD $72.75 When I arrived they convinced me to upgrade to a GMC terrain "The least expensive SUV "(the agent said there was a big snow storm coming over night. Well there was only some rain and wet snow. Good road conditions for any car). When I return the exotic SUV (NOT) I was charged the grant total of $ 239.58 more than 3 times of the original price. Don't get sucked in to their scam!!
Prompt service, seamless process, easy turn in. Staff was top notch! A terrific experience!
Stay away from the idiots working here they could care less about customer service
Yes, I recently rented a car from this location, as I had a wedding to get to. This wonderful Indian lady behind the counter was a delight and really put me at ease. Another employee passed me a donut! It was magic! I’d so come back and rent a car from here again!
People at the location were pleasant. Thrifty, however, totally raped me on the price. Had to make an emergency last minute visit as my father passed away and not only did they not offer any sort of discount, but they charged over twice as much as it should have cost
For starters the workers are helpful and pleasant. The sign on the door says employees required to wear masks, it doesn't say customers! I hate masks and when I got to the counter, then the worker said I have to wear one because they're still considered part of the airport! Whatever! Then the sign on the door should say so and online should say so! But since i prepaid for my vehicle of course i felt forced to keep my reservation. I don't patronize anywhere still demanding masks or mandates! So anyway, if you're not taking the shuttle coming from the airport, the directions to their location is incorrect in Google Maps. Clearly they're too lazy to have the information updated online. The building Google maps directs you to has been closed for over a year!! The address IS on Lucas Dr but says "In the Terminal" WHICH IT IS NOT!! So driving here to pick up a vehicle is horrible! Tried calling the number in Google that also was incorrect! Then, called their main 1-800 number and you have to jump through hoops to try to get local information! Update your site, update Google with your actual location and phone number (in the Hertz building) and stop calling "subcompact" SUVs, compact SUVs! Go by the manufacturer's designation!
Closed on Sunday….and now I can’t get my car!?!?
I didn't have any trouble renting from here. They were accomendating & I received a nice rental car. Also their rates aren't at all bad.
Great service, so quick to pick up and return from start to finish. Looking forward to renting again.
Very long line to check in....then had to wait for an additional 30 min for the car. We reserved car online ahead of time.
Very bad company They charge a lot
My wife & I rented from Thrifty Car rental while visiting Winnipeg last fall. The price we paid was exactly as was quoted. We thought we would rent from the same company while visiting Atlantic Canada. I went online and found their website and reserved a car based on an advertised discounted price if your pre-pay. We deiced to go with that option. I then received an email that provided a detailed description of the terms & conditions. The payment at that time was approximately 70% of the total price with an indicated amount that we would have to pay at the counter. We arrived at the Halifax airport after a long trip and made our way to the rental counter. We were told the car model we had reserved 2 months prior was unavailable and we had to take a different car. The woman quickly described our terms & condition options. Most of which were not followed by a price. She then produced a document and quickly asked me to initial and sign. The bill was then produced and it was about 5X more than the indicated amount on the email we received. The problem is we had pre-paid about 70% of the cost and were now faced with a losing situation. Cancelling the rental would not be practical as we would then have to rent a car on site at a far great price. The hidden costs included: Premium Pick Charge - 16.28% of total bill Energy recovery fee - .88% Vehicle licence fee & air con tax - 1.76% per day Loss Damage waiver - $31.99/day Prepaid fuel charge - $53.00 HST - 15% Again I would like to stress, while some of the additional items were optional, none of these fees were described on the website before the booking took place. The customer is at a distinct disadvantage when arriving as these costs are a surprise and by and large it is too late to rebook at a different car rental company. I would never rent from this organization again as i found their business practices are unethical and underhanded.
How does this company stay in business??? If I could give them minus 10 stars I would. Avis all the way for my company from this day forward.
Had a good experience at this Thrifty location. Got a 2016 Nissan Altima which was in the category I reserved. The price was as quoted. No complaints.
Nice staff, very helpful, rented car two times so far from them. They charged me according to quote.
This is without doubt the worst service that I have ever received. I had a 3pm reservation, arrived 15 minutes before only to be rushed out by the rude guy working there as they closed at 3pm. Needless to say, I had to leave without the car and was forced to cancel and travel to another rental company who thankfully couldn’t do enough to help me. This place is not very appealing to look at and the staff are very unprofessional. Use at your own risk. Wish I could give zero stars.
Rental car spots are pretty much rental car spots, usually nothing stands out unless it's a problem and we didn't have any, service was good.
They must only have 1 van. Everyone else has made 2 trips compared to Thrifty zero. Must do better, especially when there are so many companies to choose from.
(Translated) Excellent value. But rude staff. (Original) Excellent rapport qualité/prix. Mais personnel désagréable.
I had visitors coming from overseas, and I booked a family van for a week with Thrifty through an online service. I then received a confirmation email from Thrifty. I called the day before just to make sure they'd have the vehicle ready by 10AM (which I specified on the request). They told me that they don't actually have any vans. They could give me a small car instead, or if I wait till 5PM I *might* get a van. Totally unprofessional. Luckily, another rental company around the corner was able to get me a large transit vehicle at a similar price point. Based on the other reviews here, I guess I should count myself lucky that Thrifty didn't charge me for the rental even though they didn't have a vehicle for me. Save yourself some grief and go somewhere else.
I'm giving two stars because the overall experience of renting the car was relatively painless, however, will warn those coming off long flights, or anyone tired or not experienced in renting cars, that they will scam the hell out of you if you aren't on the ball. CHECK EVERY LINE YOU SIGN AGAINST ON THE PAPERWORK! On collection we did state multiple times we did not want any 'extra' insurance, yet, as they had the credit card details of the driver and got us to sign loads of paperwork, they kindly added a $13 a day charge to lower our excess. It's probably our fault for not paying attention and only repeatedly saying we didn't want it when questioned multiple times, as opposed to checking our paperwork in minute detail there and then and getting it amended. Obviously on return there's nothing to be done. We had signed for it and they had the credit card details. Won't be renting from this company ever again.
Extremely helpful, quick check in and out. Paul took care of us and ensured our rental experience was excellent. Would absolutely rent again.
Not the cleanest looking place. Not the friendliest. But check in was fast.
Very bad experinence ..This is the worst place to rent a car . I rented a car two days before but when i go to get car they said to me that no car is availble at this time . They never contacted me this thing but they gave me conformation number when i booked ,but when i went there they said no car is available thats so annoying . I suggest to all no one should book their rental car at dollor rental. That is the wost rental ever that you will go to.
The whole process of renting from the Thrifty location near the DTW airport was quick, smooth, and easy. I don't rent often, but will certainly be using Thrifty the next time I do.
They don’t clean there cars properly the stuck me n a car the say day someone returned it n now I’m stuck paying for a cleaning fee from the when someone had it so they changeD me $398 n they willl not refund me my money after being on the phone with 3 manger they finely see that I wasn’t the one smoking n the n told me that they would refund me my money never got refund I calll back n they telll me that they deleted my refund I will never rent a car through them ever again and I’m tellling every one this n hope they don’t stick yu guy though what they had me go thru best of luck to you alll
Getting the car was pretty simple... but returning it was another story. Super rude return service.
I have rented from them multiple times and every time it’s a nightmare. Go with any other company, it’s worth the extra few dollars!
Horrible horrible It took 45 mins to be picked up at the airport Another 10 min ride to the car Another 1:42 min wait Only one person at the counter Look how much of a trip was taken away 3 hrs for a rental car Seriously??? Never ever again Ridiculous
This company is the pits. I went through five tolls on my trip and Thrifty paid the tolls for me, then sent me a bill. The tolls added up to $14.00 dollars and they charged me $60.00 in admin fees. They should be ashamed of this policy!
Just as advertised, good car and price for two days....
I had rented an SUV from Thrifty for a vacation this November. Everything was fine, until I had questions after my rental was returned about charges on my contract. The first person I spoke with apologized and said they could apply a credit to my credit card for a charge that was disputed. Two weeks went by and no credit. I returned my call to see if the refund had pulled through, and if I had missed something. The woman I spoke with in their customer service department was extremely rude, and would not listen to my full question before chiming in her information. And to whoever I spoke with the first time lied to me about refunding part of my charges. I am a patient person, but I do not take kindly to companies who run a business using lies and rude attitudes. I am a customer and asked my question in a nonthreatening manner, but it was not received in the same way. I will never use THRIFTY Car Rental ever again, and advise anyone looking for a vehicle to use on a vacation to not as well. Shop safely and smart everyone. Thank you.
Excellent service I was in and out in minutes. 2019 toyota camry was excellent to drive when coming back to Detroit I will use this service again I give them very high marks
****0 stars! Online quote was about 50% less than what they charged me. I got quotes from about 5 rentals companies and decided on thrifty because of the low cost. Not one person was willing to help. The only thing they kept telling me was it costs more because of a deposit. I returned the vehicle to receive a itemized bill and there was no refundable deposit amount. They charged extra for all kinds of things and when I called all I got was "well you signed the agreement". I will never rent from thrifty ever again!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't just show up and rent a car. You have to reserve online first. We did not know this ahead of time, but was told to go to Priceline.com by a customer. They are cheaper than last time we walked in (before they changed it to on line only). Make sure you check around the whole car for any scratches or dents so you don't get charged anything. A man in front of us got charged $300 for smoking in the car, and he does not smoke. But otherwise a good place to rent from. Friendly help and reasonable prices from priceline
I would avoid Thrifty at all costs. They quoted us one price and charged us over double without any indication there would be a change in price. Shady business. Stay away.
(Translated) We rented a compact car for 4 days and everything went very smoothly. The girl at the reception was very smiling. We went through the bsp auto site for the reservation and we did not have any additional cost. Quick return. Retour rapide.
Good
Will never rent from them again. Unreal business practices. Basically they tacked on $40/day extra insurance charges. The insurance was more than the car!! I refused the insurance when I got the car, they added it to my bill anyway. So basically it was a bait and switch. ALWAYS READ THE AGREEMENT. Its mind boggling its 2019 and companies blatantly rip people off like this. I reported to to the BBB. A lawyer I met said this is common and simply the way they operate. Sickening
BEWARE!!!!! Rented a premium vehicle from this location last week, the salesperson behind the counter named Genesis asked if Id like to prepay for my fuel upfront at a discounted rate of $2.64 VS the going rate of $3.00? She also stated any unused fuel would be credited back to me upon return of the vehicle. It seemed to be a no brainer, I was only traveling to Toledo OH where I would be staying for 3 days and retuning to Detroit to drop off. I used approx. 1/4 of a tank of gas and upon returning I was charged $45.88 for the gas and was told there is no credit for the unused gas, and that its clearly stated in my contract that I signed. I don't know anyone who reads the full contract at the counter when renting a vehicle and if I cannot trust your employees to give me accurate information upon renting than you are clearly out to take advantage of the public with no disregard for being an honest company with a reputation worth protecting. I did call the Manager Charles upon returning home to discuss the issue and he said he would look into making things right with me a asked for my phone number to call me right back, still to this day no return call from anyone. Save yourself the headache and don't rent from this company!!!!
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I had an absolutely disgraceful experience with this location and had to file a formal complaint with Thrifty Head Office. The young girl (looked about 15 years old) that was working alone could not explain or answer any of my questions about the insurance. She couldn't tell me what would happen if I was involved in a crash - something anyone would like clarification on! When I returned the vehicle, I was asked to hand over the keys to a disheveled man who emerged from the back and said he "cleans the cars and the staff had gone home"....... it was still within business hours. I asked for a receipt and confirmation that I had returned the car and he could not use the computer, had to call the "owner" and the whole process took THIRTY minutes. I called the next day to complain and the "owner" was sarcastic and rude. She did not seem to care that a very dissatisfied customer was looking for some kind of resolution. She offered me nothing unless I would rent from her again and she could reduce the rate!! No one would give anyone repeat business after such an appalling experience. I told her I would report this to head office and she basically hung up on me. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable experience. This location represents Thrifty and Hertz - such a complete lack of professionalism was unbelievable. I will certainly be sharing my horrendous experience with others. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION.
Terrible! Slow long lines, rude uninformed staff! Inconvenient policies. Don't plan to ever do business with them.
Quick service, easy pick up, friendly shuttle bus driver.
I needed a last minute rental for a weekend in town, spanning only 2 days. That is what I booked and I returned the vehicle in less than 48 hours, but was then charged for three days. I reached out to the company and was put in contact with Sheila who claimed she was more than willing to help resolve this issue. However, I never heard back from her after numerous attempts on my end. I would highly suggest avoiding this company at all costs, as they clearly struggle to bill appropriately. I am still fighting the bill and it's been over a month.
Like others who've reviewed, I had the worst experience with this Thrifty location. I was told by phone that my confirmed reservation was late and to come 3 hours later. Inconvenience but fine. I called 30 minutes before and now they told me the car was unavailable entirely. No car. Confirmed reservation. No car. She then hung up on me while I complained that my Easter long weekend trip to visit family was in jeopardy because of this. Subsequent phone calls were unanswered. Occasionally she picked up the phone then hung up immediately after. Other times she'd answer and put me on hold right away. Complete horror story of a rental agency. After seeing others here with a similar experience, I suspect this location intentionally lists more inventory than they have so they can ensure their entire fleet is overbooked and rented. Internet bookings from Expedia, Priceline, etc don't know any better. Those of us who show up later in the day are left stranded. They probably just close shop early and go home for the day after their cars are all gone. This business is corrupt, unprofessional, dishonest, and should be avoided at all costs.
Worst experience ever!!! First they messed up my reservation, then attempted to charge my credit card some ungodly amount of money (way more than the price I was told it would be) , so the card gets declined because the employee charges the wrong amount, then admits he was wrong and will charge me the correct amount but states he can't charge my card because once a card is declined they can't accept it for another 24 hours. So I am stuck on a busy road in another state and the guy says oh you can try budget rentals across the street. (Which is a busy highway with no sidewalks I might add!!!) So I ask for a ride on their shuttle, to which he refuses. So I had to walk down a busy highway with my luggage, and attempt to get past the gate and over the metal spikes of their competitor, Budget rental, across the street. On a positive note I did have an excellent experience at Budget and would highly recommend them. However as for thrifty, spend the extra money and hed elsewhere. Trust me, you will be glad you did.
Rented car at 320pm. 5pm, still waiting to exit, slow as molasses in January. Worst customer service ever.
Booked online, weeks ahead... when I arrived no car was available. I almost missed my flight, good thing Enterprise saved the day. Terrible service in person, very disinterested staff, did not care that no car was there , poor customer service on phone, tried to blame everything else and didn't take responsibility.
Super sketchy car rental - we were charged 200 more than what we were quoted. We got to St. John’s late at night and went to the counter to pick up our car but were told they didn’t have any vehicles available. They made an arrangement that Budget would give us a vehicle for the same rate as our reservation. So we went to Budget, who quoted us at 200 dollars more than our original quote. I told her that they were charging us way more than what we reserved for and she said, “Well, the taxes are higher here.”. I showed her my booking (thankfully I had printed everything before coming), and she proceeded to tell me that Thrifty would cover the difference. So we went back to Thrifty, and they said they couldn’t do anything - we would have to pay the full amount and we could get a refund upon returning the car. At the end of our trip, we went to return our car and were told they still could not issue a refund because “the manager” wasn’t there. We were told that once the manager reviewed our situation he would give us a call. It is a month later and we never received a call. I have been emailing with EasyRentCars trying to get my refund. Initially they asked for my address to send me a cheque, so I sent that, only to be told they couldn’t actually do that, and they actually needed my credit card. I am still waiting to see if I receive that refund. The whole thing has dragged on for a month. It is for sure a scam - it has to be. Otherwise it is the worst customer service and no one has any organization or any idea what is going on. If you book online with Thrifty, don’t expect a vehicle to be reserved and prepare to pay 200 dollars more.
This was really not a good experience at all. The people here are courteous, but they certainly don't exceed the average customer service representative. It was 12:10am and there were already 5 people ahead of us. Meanwhile, 2 were in the Express Line. They had signs posted up to excuse their delay as they were updating their computer systems. They try to upsell you unnecessary coverage/addons and when you decline, they spend too much time trying to tell you why you are in a worse position because you declined it. 45 minutes later we walked out of there just thankful to be out. Person #2 from the "Express Line" barely beat us outside by 50 seconds. (What's the point of the Express Line?) We grabbed our car and they had some nice selections. Unfortunately, we had to wait another 13 minutes in line just to leave the lot. And when we did, we were free!! And now I'm writing this review because no matter how much money we saved by going with Thrifty, I'm really unsure on whether or not that experience was worth it.
Car and service was terrible. The lady that helped me was fine but the lady next to her kept telling at a man to get in line. "If you're not in line, how am I supposed to know you need help!?" After the man stated he must have misplaced his license when then looked at him like he was a moron and stated, "well you need a license to drive a car!" I fel horrible for him. After we got our we then walked out to find our car. The woman walked us to our car and gave us our paperwork to document damages but told her she didn't have a pen so I should ask the lady at checkout for one. So I had to cross traffic to get a pen and it didn't even work! From there we inspected the car that was disgusting to put it politely. The car wreaked of smoke and there were ciggerete burns in the seats. There was food reminants all over, cheese puffs smears on the backseat, a empty mountain dew bottle under the seat, and a dirty rag in the side door. Will not be using this company again and am making sure to spread the word about how horrible it was. I picked up from DTW.
We have been waiting over an hour and this line hasn’t moved! There is one guy working the desk. Seriously??!?
One of my worst car rental experiences ever. I spent forty-five minutes standing in line. Neither of the two rental representatives appeared to care the slightest that the line was very long and slow. one of the two representatives was new and needed a lot of assistance from the other. A manager came out from the back and gave the new person some help. That was good, but it would have been nice if he had stayed out and helped to work down the line. He quickly vanished, never to be seen again. Once outside the gate I began to realize that the shocks were pretty well shot. I felt every pothole during my stay in Detroit. I'll tell you there are a lot of potholes in Detroit during "road repair season." Returning the car was easy and quick and the ride back to the airport was in a different, and better, van.
Absolutely shocking service. I prebooked a car online for $150 for the week, I got there and the lady there told me it would be $700 for the rental and that I had to take out the insurance, I then said I would take it for 1 day as I couldn't be bothered to argue and I would deal with it later that day, she told me that would be a cost of $150 for the day which is shocking, when I looked at my rental agreement, the daily rate was more than what I was orginially quoted. I phoned someone up at thrift to ask this and to extend my rental and do it at the cost of what I was quoted and they told me I took out optional features which I did not, I tweeted thrifty a few times to which they said we can look at the fees once the car has been returned but when I messaged them about extending the car they did not reply to which I had to tweet them directly to get a reply. I've rented with a lot of car companies in the past but this one really is the worst, not only was my daily rate more, I was meant to have a managers special car and I ended up with the smallest one on the forecourt
I reserved a car in early March for pickup May 1. Got to the airport and they had no cars in the evening! They wanted to me wait 3 hours with 4 kids in the airport IN CASE they got a car in by then. There were 5 people ahead of me on the wait list who also had reservations and no car! I ended up spending twice the money to rent a car the next day because it was a same day reservation at a different rental company! Don't take the reservation if you don't have the cars to fulfill it! Rude service, they had not a care that they were not honoring a reservation. Contacted the company after my trip and I never received a response. HORRIBLE SERVICE!
Horrible, slow, careless. We waited foreveeeeer. And than when we were at the gate to check out hey told us to go get another car because they made a mistake. We have kids; this was a hassle. Someone hit the gate when we left again so we had to wait even longer to leave. We never rent from thrifty and we never will again.
Charged me fees for smoking when we never smoked in the car. Matter of fact, we barely drove the car because we were camping the entire weekend and didnt drive it. I've been calling every since and took quite some time to get a local number which I had to leave a message and still not sure if it went to the local office. We told the attendant several times we didnt smoke in the car but he charged us anyway and said we would have to speak with management. We had to leave right then so we wouldn't miss our flight but now we cant reach anyone. I'm totally disgusted with the customer service from this location. I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THRIFTY! I'm still waiting for a return call. Just ridiculous. After reading other reviews, this seems to be the norm.
Do not rent from Thrifty their hidden fees will get you everytime. I prepaid for a car then the lady offered me an upgrade. She failed to advise the prepaid money would be voided off. Ended up paying 3x the amount for the car. Just go with Alamo they are the best!
Good cars
Slow shuttle, ok line, huge line to exit lot, which I had to sit through twice, because I was given a car that was supposed to get an oil change. Moved my bags to new car, sitting through huge slow moving line again while family waits for me. I chose the cheapest rental company as I always do, but I've never been through such an innefficient car rental process.
worst experience from a car rental. They gave me a car whose air-condition was not working properly. I realized it after driving 15-20 miles. So when I went back to return the vehicle, they were closed!!! So I had to come back home and go there again in the morning to exchange the vehicle. But they charged me for the fuel. I wasted 2-3 hours of mine, wasted hotel bill for a day just because of their car's fault, but still they charged me for the fuel! This was so stupid. The worst thing is that they are LIERS. They did not tell about this until they took my signature. I asked before signing whether there is any extra charge for the exchange or not. They did not mention anything. Just after taking the signature, they gave me the new bill. All the stuffs were very rude, will NEVER go there again for sure.
Fast, prompt. Was out of the car I reserved but upgraded nicely
The staff here even at check-in after midnight were friendly. I checked in without an issue and received a free upgrade when the rep saw that the three of us traveling together would not fit comfortably in the Economy size car I reserved. We were in town for a funeral and would be there for approximately 48 hours so I figured an Economy car would be cost efficient especially after spending $500 on last minute airfare. Thank you Thrifty Car Rental Staff. The car was awesome; very comfortable with lots of features.
I booked for a car a week in advance. When booking, I had chosen the option for a mid-size car, Toyota Corolla or similar. There were other options, such as vans and SUVs, but I did not need such, so I booked what I needed. When I arrived at Halifax, tired from being up all night and waiting at the airport/travelling on a flight, I reached their table. I informed the person at the table I had made a reservation. The first thing that he tried to do was upsell. If you pay $15 you can get so and so car, if you pay $40 you can get this car. I was getting agitated, as I had booked the car in advance, to save money, and to ensure I would have the car of my choice, and know how much I am paying up front. He kept trying to sell me another car. I said I don't want to pay anymore than what I had reserved. He said the only car he had for the range I had booked was a Ford Transit. This was definitely not what I had wanted. I had asked for a car, 4 door sedan. As it was only 2 of us that would be sitting in it, and we did not have any extra baggage, or anything big to put in the car. He refused, saying that he could either offer me a van or the Transit. Left with no choice, we had to take the Transit. This was beyond ridiculous. We had reserved the car in advance, to ensure we would get what we wanted, and we did not get any such thing, or even similar. The rep was not even helpful enough to give us a sedan, and waive the extra charge, because it was a mistake on their part. He even tried to sell us insurances, that we had denied when we booked it. He spent so much time going through it, and trying to scare us to get them. For travelers, this is annoying, we want to just get the car we booked and rest.
I have rented from Thrifty multiple times, and they have taken extremely good care of my needs and those of my family. I will continue to rent with the Thrifty family.
Great friendly service.
I'd give them 0 stars if I could. Reserved a car through Expedia, yet they charged me more even though I didn't add anything. They definitely won't pick their car up or shuttle you anywhere. They charge fees to return your car early.
i went there and i reserved a premium car a week in advance and i go to the location and they give me a compact car for a few dollars less its all BS there. The guy was rude aswell.
Even Worst than Third class service! Don’t go here guys , they will screw u up on charges on your credit every single time
Couldn't get a car after it let me reserved it with a debit card. Only charges cards.
Long lines, poor customer service.
Booked for memorial weekend enoyed the service may 2018 kind staff and very helpful. Then booked in advanced for aug. 4 , The staff was very unpleasant, walking in the 2 desk woman acted like they were over worked and were complaining about being busy ! Its called a job. Stacie working outside she was great, had a 1400.00 + rental yet i decide not to even take their vechile, the counter staff just kinda laughed acted like they could car less. I'll never rent from them again, rented just down the street for 400.00 cheaper
We got there and they would not help us at all WITH OUR RESERVATION WE PRE- PAID we walked across the street WITH ALL OUR LUGGAGE and rented a better car cheaper at Hertz. Now my money that would have gone to you went to your completion. That was the worst manager in HISTORY. WE WILL NEVER USE THRIFTY OR BUDGET IN DETROIT EVER AGAIN SO RUDE.!!!!
Brutal service. Waited 45 mins because the agent was dealing with people who had wrong documentation rather than looking after everyone else in line. Learn customer service people!
I was leary with all the bad reviews but I couldn't have had a better experience. We rented a minivan which they let you choose from the bunch. There was only one minivan available but it was a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica which was loaded. No complaints here. Service at counter was quick and easy, not pushy or trying to overly upsell me. I had purchased through rentalcars[dot]com and insurance through Allianz travel. I did prepay for gas which was the better deal because I was driving over 2,000 miles. Timed it perfect so vehicle was completely empty upon return. Let me quickly break this down for you to know. 1- You will need to bring government ID. 2- You will need a credit card in your name. 3- They will place a hold on that credit card so make sure you have enough funds available ($390 for me) 4- You will pay other expenses upon return such as taxes, fees... which is a part of the c.c. hold. This wasn't a difficult processes at all. I'll definitely be returning to Thrifty for another rental in the future.
Great have a dependable and clean car to use on my trip. They were not pushy at all and I got a great deal
Took 45 minutes to pick up my reservation and lots of fees were added on.
It’s sort of important to have enough cars to fufill reservations.
Great service!!
Only one person to help 100 people. Been waiting for a while, and have a while to go. Over booked, understaffed at customers’ inconvenience.
Thrifty tried to rip me off using their “toll scheme”. I knew something was wrong when I received multiple bills adding up to over $100 in “administrative fees” when in reality the total cost of the tolls were around $15. I searched online and the first thing to come up is the lawsuit against them for stealing money from their customers. I was not offered a toll pass at the time of purchase and was not informed of any fees at all regarding tolls. They will tell you that it is in the rental agreement. Think about it, THEY WILL TELL YOU IN WORDS LOUD AND CLEAR UPFRONT to bring the vehicle back fueled to same level (in the agreement), make sure the car is clean (in the agreement), you will be charged for damage (in the agreement), etc etc. If all that is in the agreement, then why do you ALWAYS fail to mention the part about tolls. DING DING DING. Can anyone say deceiving way to rob your customers? And I say always because I have a few other friends and family members that went through the exact same thing and received the exact same bills. We decided to test it out. Two of us went to two separate locations and we have them on film with audio of them telling us about everything except the toll fees. Coincidence? I think not. Long story short, we will be forwarding this evidence to the Attorney Generals office. Obviously we will never rent from them and I will make sure to spread the word. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. If they truly care about their customers, they will tell you upfront about ALL fees included and not mask it. Shame on you Thrifty, shame on you.
In spite of the heavy snow falling at times the shuttle driver Gene dela Pena made our drive from the airport to the Rental office on Feb. 12th most enjoyable. He really made us feel welcome. On the return to DTW on the 16th the shuttle driver Warren again was such a pleasant person to meet. Each of these men made our travel between the airport and the rental office absolutely enjoyable.
Good service Cars well prepared Insurance cost is high
Very smooth process of pickup and drop off. Free shuttle to and from airport. Will use again!
Worst car service rental ever. Amber who is the manager had 0 proof of the time the car was returned. She manually clocked the car in 12 mins late causing the rental price to double for 4 days. I have dealt with Avis, enterprise, hertz and by far this is the worst company to deal with. In addition amber refused to even acknowledge the matter. She is by far the worst manager I have ever seen at any business. 0 for customer service, 0 for management.Completely unethical way to monetize on customers. Pay the extra and go somewhere else because Thrifty will cheat you.
This was my first rental with Thrifty. I'll be avoiding them in the future. I rented through Hotwire, which I've done in the past with other agencies and had no issue. My two major complaints about Thrifty are 1) Car not as advertised. I rented a "Special car" which was described as a "compact car or larger." When I arrived, the agent told me I could pick any car within 8 spaced outside. When I went outside, there was only one car within those 8 spaces - a Chevy Spark, which is definitely a sub-compact or economy car. There was a Thrifty employee outside and he asked if everything was OK. I said the car was a bit small and politely asked if they had anything else. A few minutes later he said another car was just returned and I could have that one instead, if I wanted. It was a Ford Fiesta (another sub-compact/economy car). This was a short trip and I didn't feel like arguing with anyone so I just left. Not the end of the world but still not a great experience. 2) Hidden fee. Within a few days of returning my rental, I noticed an extra charge on my credit card. When I looked up the receipt on Thrifty's site I saw: CONCESSION FEE RECOVERY $26.90. The amount I paid Hotwire already included taxes and fees. This fee was not included in the advertised rate by Hotwire or Thrifty prior to purchase. If this fee was disclosed before the rental, the rate would have been higher and I would have selected a different option.
Great customer service and selection of vehicles.
Went to Vegas and paid for my car economy and didn’t kno where to go they kept telling get into any car I choose an Malibu and when I return it they charged me 174.00 additional charges that I didn’t kno about they charge for gas and refuel fee taxes of 28.00 84.00 for their insurance and their fee Never use them and it was booked with my flight so total was almost 400.00 to rent this car !!!i called corporate Theo a bounch of scams !!! Do not take their word they owe me 84.00 refund for the insurance this is how they make their money if they don’t kno how it works !!!! I paid threw Spirit Airlines my flight and car was 400.00 so 200 for the car ! But they also charge additional 174.00 to my credit card !!! Don’t Not Trust them they say you need 300.00 on your credit cards and charge it all for fees !!!! Very Disappointed I’m still going threw Corporate and playing their phone games!!!!
Rented a car while mine was being worked on. The rates seem fair and the people were good to deal with.
Beware! I declined to pay for gas on site. As I was less than 10 miles from the car rental location. I even told the employee helping me I was Going to fill it up with gas on my way back to the airport and he said great! I return my rental car with a full tank of gas and because I did not have a gas receipt to prove it - even though the tank was full they charged me for gas. The employee NEVER told me I needed a receipt NEVER. This is how they SCAM you. I will never use this company again. Shady! Horrible business practices. They will never change their ways. Use another rental company!
DO NOT GO HERE. 0/5 stars Most of my reviews are positive, this place.... Is the most unprofessional, unethical, zero compassion for cancer patients business we've ever been to period. The car we had smelt like literal hot dogs. After I was in a head on a few weeks ago, we had to replace the car. So we were sent here.. My mom (still going through treatment) couldn't drive your car without throwing up and when we brought it back you, you told us it was the cleaning agent you used? The guy we were dealing with seemed extremely out of it, which I get, I can get quite tired myself, but he lied about only having one vehicle for us (which also smelled). Zero empathy as he shrugged his shoulders and said all was normal. So I asked if he could call another branch as we were done with this place and he said he didn't know how to phone the other Hertz......... I don't like to come off rude but I wanted to double check that he was physically incapable of phoning to check if they had any other SUVs that didn't reek terribly, so I asked again and he told me he couldn't phone the other branch. What is wrong with your business model? ICBC sends you clients who are emotionally exhausted and this is the staff you put on the front lines? He told us to use the hotdog car till 12 midnight. Or to "go to another 3rd party car rental place". There's something not right with this place and the employee we dealt with that day. You guys know how to contact us and we'd like to hear your side of the story. We highly recommend going with Avia and we got an amazing vehicle (hotdog-smell free vehicles). Don't go here until they get their acts together..
This is the worst rental car service ever!! I can't even explain how horrible my experience at Detroit Metro or the Lucas street location! The agent Jessica over charged my hold which was suppose to be $200.00. Which was an inconvenience to my cc and takes forever to stop pending. The lady Nicole has been there so long that her service is selective and robotic. If you have a business sense of style her service is different with you. She was very dry and short with me during arrival and departure. The highlight was a gentleman named Omar in the returns dept. His service was great and he was such a light after dealing with the agents. Hertz will probably be your best bet.
Check in was fast and the young man at the Thrifty/Dollar counter was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I was given an upgrade at no extra cost. I had read negative reviews about this Thrifty location using a bait and upgrade then overcharging clients prior to my booking for Sept 2-9 - hmmm seems hard to believe, I'm not calling any of the reviewers liars - please understand, however since I have always had good experiences with Thrifty - I didn't hesitate to book- I will add that in Toronto it is a seemingly common practice for competitors to post horrible reviews ( usually the reviewers have 1 or 2 reviews posted - a warning sign IMHO ). I will be updating this review after I return my 2018 Jeep Cherokee on Sept 9th-. So far, all is exceptional. I'm very pleased. I pulled out of the poorly lit parking garage and immediately took a video of a few scratches on the door and fender in the sunlight which is the norm for me every rental I pick up. ( UPDATED SEPT 10/18 ) Rental return was fast and easy - I am rebooking with this Thrifty location for Sept 29 - Oct. 1/18. Special thanks to Jean Michelle who also checked my car out upon arrival in Halifax- and Erin in the return section. Top notch staff, great immaculately clean vehicles and best pricing in Halifax International (Stanfield) Airport. I highly recommend.
My little spark was great! The attendance were very helpful in getting me out and in...i really appreciate that!
The staff were nice but the issue I have is with the company itself.
From the initial contact at this Thrifty location, which also accommodates Dollar car rental and also Hertz it was a pleasure. The first person my wife and daughter spoke to was Aman. Very professional very cordial Highly recommend this location, to those wanting to rent a nice clean vehicle.
When I went to pick up the car, the guy behind the counter just told me to go to the last row which is where the compact cars are parked. I asked if someone would be out there to help me, he assured me there would be. Once out there in rainy, 45 degree night, there was no one out there. I've never rented a car from the airport before so I just stood there waiting for someone who worked there to help me. No one came. I asked another lady who was sitting in the car if there were someone who would give me the key etc. She told me just to pick anyone. Also, the person behind the counter didn't tell me to make sure the car didn't have any scratches or dents before getting inside. I'm use to Enterprise where they not only walk you to the car, but also help you check for dents and scratches.
The rental started off bad, altho not Thrifty fault, having to go up an escalator walk 1/4 mile then go down an escalator with luggage is not a good way to start. I get to the bus to the rental location. Altho, I was not in a great hurry maybe I should have been. That day it was cold and very windy and a large group of people were in the entrance hall waiting for cars. Inside there was a line of 10-12 people wanting a rental. I had reservations but no lane was clearly marked as an express lane and there were 3 agents. I stood my turn and gave the agent my reservation. The agent said 'I don't need that' give me your ID, I had my ID, credit card and proof of insurance, she semi threw the proof of insurance card back at me with "I don't need that'. About that time she says aren't you going to say Hi, then I informed her, she hadn't said Hi and I was waiting for her to make the introduction. She finds my reservation and quickly hands me back my credit card and ID and says' Your ready to go. As I said it was very windy and not only were the customers in the entrance so was the young lady ordering the cars, I showed her my rental agreement for a Full size car and went outside to get out of the over crowded entrance and wait on my car. I waited and waited and the young woman never came out of the entrance hall. Finally she comes out and asks me what size car I have rented and returns into the entrance. Two gentleman waiting on a SUV ask what type car am I needing, I tell them a full size and I am not getting any information from the young woman, about the time I answer, the young lady pops her head out, wanting to inform the men there SUV is that one. At that time she informs me a car that had been setting there a while is mine. I do a outside inspection, get in and inspect and familiarize myself to the interior finally looking at the instrument panel notice a flashing Car needs Maintenance. I had just experienced this with a Thrifty rental 10 days earlier. So catch an outside employee supervising people and cars, to inform him of the problem. I wait a short time and another car is brought up and I inspect the outside after making sure the Maintenance light is not on and again get inside and familiarize myself with the interior of the car. Go to the exit where must be checked again in which I am 4th in line and the lady is taking about 5 minutes per vehicle. Finally at 9:00 PM I leave with my full size no maintenance problem car after arriving at the airport at 7:15. Express Service!!
Met me with courtesy and expedience. I got my car quickly and the process was reasonably seamless. Car was a good price albeit a little abused. I will do it again.
Fabulous and quick service, competitive prices
I picked up a car from DFW to DTW on 11/21 and returned on 11/23. I accidentally left my wallet in the car. When I realized it I called the Thrifty at DTW immediately- nobody responded my phone calls or voicemails. I submitted a report and tried calling lost & found. They told me it will take 24-48 hours. I kept calling @thriftycars, trying to find out if I could just go look for the wallet myself. Nobody would answer me via phone, twitter or facebook. I was completely stranded with no ID or money. I missed my flight the next day as well due to not having any valid ID to travel with. It is now 12/1 and I still am being completely ignored by Thrifty. I have tried every outlet to get in contact with somebody (fb, twitter, phone numbers, customer service requests, hertz). I am shocked and appalled this is their customer service. I rent with @thriftycars all the time And have never been treated so poorly. I get there is protocol for everything but the fact that I have blatantly been ignored by Thrifty makes me think they don't care and are a shady business.
Nice staff and nice cars. They even gave me a free upgrade!
Rude stuff
The old lady working the desk needs to be worried about her and her pocket and not about the insurance company that I have. Especially if your wack company doesn’t require you to bring that from the insurance company. Also looked at me like I had a bomb on me or something because my work colleague sat down with the luggage. Mind you the reservation was in my name not hers! Why would I bring my 7 plus bags in line and have my friend stand with me? Maybe she doesn’t travel but she made herself and this company look slow.
The customer service is one of the worst in rental cars industry. I booked a standard SUV can and they end up offering me a mini Chevy SUV. I end up arguing it with the agent and then she offered Forde Edge. It was first and last time to use their rentals. FYI this is DTW airport rentals.
Good value. Clean, we'll maintained vehicle. Accommodating with my required rental extension.
One word to describe the experience, Poor. Customer Service was poor - very uncaring and nonchalant; very difficult to reach by phone. A dumpy hole in the wall location. The car had known issues and should not have been rented out (car shuddered and even had a massive burn in the seat; smelt like a chain smoker; car was was still dirty). Hands down worst rental experience to date. Poor all around.
This place was super busy but the made the line move fast. The car was nice, new, clean, and cheap.
As a BlueChip member I was able to bypass the line and was sent to the lot pick out my vehicle. The entire process took less than five minutes. The Toyota Corolla I rented was well maintained, clean and odor free. The return process took less than five minutes. I received friendly prompt service all through the rental/return process. I recommend signing up for the BlueChip program to streamline the process. The shuttle drivers were courteous and cheerful. On the return trip, the driver admonition to check for personal items resulted in one customer remembering that he had forgotten that his tablet in the car! He was able to retrieve it immediately.
The worst car rental experience of my life! I will never rent a car at Thrifty again! Left me stranded at the airport having to walk around with my luggage in the rain to find another car to rent.
Late flight = Thrifty is closed. At 8am the next morning at the counter the agent looked like she just rolled out of bed and was not too pleased to have a customer. She was a "soft talker" and it was impossible to hear her over the room noise without leaning across the counter with hands cupped behind your ears. She seemed annoyed at me that She couldn't be heard. Final aggravation was the insertion of extra services which I had to ask her to remove multiple times. Not a great start to my day
Very helpful staff, who were considerate to a dad travelling in his own with a toddler. Importantly, there are changing stations in the men's room, which is a huge help after getting off a plane!
Reasonable price.
I used Thrifty for a weekend trip. They had the best prices from other rental agencies I was looking at. Very friendly and joyful staff during my pick-up and return time
They miss some details in order to give a great service to customers, dont shows the cars. Dont offer any options,
Friendly service clean vehicles and reasonable prices.
I am still angry. I called and asked to confirm rate quoted to me and then when they charged me, they charged an extra $30 a day. Rip off central. Then when i called to ask for an explanation of charges they hung up on me. Don't rent from here!!
excellent ride smooth and spacious great on gas the PACIFICA hope to be a owner soon
This was the first time I ever rented a car through Thrifty. It will be the last time I rent through that company. I had a early morning flight out of Detroit and went to return the vehicle and the place was closed. I could not even turn into the lot. They had them things coming out if the ground so you could not cross them. No shuttle was out. I missed my flight and had to go stand by. Never again will I do business with Thrifty. Should have struck with Enterprise who I have always dealt with.
The customer service was really good. I was able to get a car really fast last minute. Thanks
The worst rental car ever. We booked full size car with gps for 100 eur and one free fuel. We came to Montreal car wasnt there. They gave us economy car and they tried to charged us 360 cad for gps. I was angry and i consider as fraud. They gave us rediction of 200 cad for return on other place. But still economy car. We changed it in Quebec for full size with 6/8 fuel. In Halifax we returned car with 4/8 so 2/8 more than we should and we were charged 147 cad for missing fuel! Non sense. We complained and they changed for 45 cad. So bonus was one full for which we must paid 45 cad plus our 30 so as for full. Really great bonus. They cheat us 3 times. Only one helpfull man was in quebec city office. The others were arogants and they charged us their owen faults. Never more trifty.
It’s not Thrifty. It’s enterprise rental. Google needs an update
I worked there, and they are very unprofessional. They are very unorganized. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Whole company under drugs ????
Bad bad bad customer service awful communication through the Calgary branch and surrey branch. Would not recommend as a rental service
Very impressed with Thrifty Car rental at DTW. Shuttle was prompt and courteous. There was no agent at the counter so I used the Kiosk and was connected to a live person via 'videophone.' Then the lot attendant got us to our car in less than 2 minutes. Car was a newer SUV with about 850 miles on it. I've never booked with Thrifty before but used 'Hotwire' to book this time and Thrifty was what I received. I was a little skeptical at first, but it was at least as good as any other rental experience I've had. Really pleased with Thrifty and the whole experience.
I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE. I made a reservation 10 days ago, when i went to pick up the truck they did the paper work, and asked me to wait for someone to bring the truck up for me. waited more than 20 minutes no one showed up, went back to the front desk and found out that they do not even have the truck , they wanted me to take a Van instead that was so frustrating. Then they were like we will call you when we have the truck ready and they never called. I'm asking for a FULL- refund now , they wasted my time. I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE.
I will NEVER rent from this place again! Thrifty needs to catch up with the car rental times! So many unnecessary rules... fill up w/in 10 miles show receipt... no car drop off (had an early flight and had to wait until they opened at 5am)... $350 authorized hold on debit cards (I've used my debit all the time with others... no hold) plus many more rules that are such an inconvenience. NEVER AGAIN! Cheap price is not worth the hassle. You really do get what you pay for.
Worst rental car service ever!!!!! Do not go here!!! Please save yourself time and money! There is so much in hidden fees. Here I was thinking I paid everything online ahead of time and I showed up to be charged a 500 holding fee and 240 for "underage" even though I've never had a ticket and I'm 24! Should've read reviews first a lot of people saying they didn't get their deposit back. Praying this doesn't happen!
Upgraded Jeep Renegade was noice.
I always rent during summer this location has the best price and great cars
Car seats very dirty, no key fob, so I had to manually open the truck and the door for 9 days. Will not be using them again!
Needed to extend my rental and was told on the phone that I had to return the car and could rent another one couldn't understand the woman because she spoke Indian got to the rental place and they couldn't understand why I was told that so I will never rent from them again.
Friendly Staff. Rohan Bhatia and Sam helped to find a right car.
I've reserved the vehicle for Thanksgiving to visit families via Expedia. When I walked into the store, front desk told me that all their cars are out. I proved them my reservation number and all they responded was "that was an internet error". What a way to ruin Thanksgiving
Every other rental companies open 24hours except the cheap Thrifty. They closes from 1 to 5am. So, if your plane gets delayed, tough luck!! Never Thrifty again!!!#
A few cars selection only.
Double charged on my rental in July. Thrifty is refusing to refund the money after I already paid for it back in April and then charging again after dropping off. Incompetent customer service when trying to get funds back. Zero stars if I could.
Recently booked a car and Satnav for 3 days. Staff were friendly and the car was as ordered. Stars lost for the Satnav. There was one fitted to the car but I tried for 20 minutes to start it without success. A staff member then tried for 10 minutes but couldn't get it started. I was told that I needed to drive the car outside so it could get a satellite reception which I did. Five minutes later the staff member came out to tell me that the Satnav hadn't been activated in that car so I would have to go back inside to get a stand alone satnav. I was given the only one that would boot. I also noticed that another $40 had been added to my bill but when I mentioned it I was told it would be taken off. Happy times until the Satnav went flat 20 minutes later and either the power adapter or the power accessory point were faulty and I couldn't charge it. Next day I tried connecting via USB cable but the output was too low. On the 3rd day I found another USB port which worked OK. I queried this online with Thrifty and got the message that someone would contact me within 10 working days. Three weeks later I still haven't heard anything.
Great service. Even without a reservation, I was able to get a vehicle on the spot just walking up to the counter. Check out service was fast and friendly, and when dropping it off at their Hollis Rd location, again was met with such friendly and efficient service.
Quick and easy. No problems.
We rented a car from them for 4 days in April 2016. I went with them because they had a great rate at $20/day. Big mistake. When we returned the car, they falsely accused us of causing two chips in the windshield. We were floored. We are 100% certain they did not occur during our rental. In fact, I went out to the car and could not find them. I went back in and the agent came out with me and showed me two teeny tiny pits….the size of the tiny tip of a needle. You could not feel them on the inside. We wondered how she could of possibly seen them in the short time she was doing the inspection and the windshield was dirty from normal driving. It almost seemed as if she knew where to look because she had seen them before. We were livid. When we did the initial inspection when we got the car it was in the dark parking garage and it was pouring rain outside so it was very, very dark. Needless to say we did not see them even with a flashlight. She told us we could pay for the windshield repair (she said we were lucky they wouldn’t have to replace the windshield…so kind of her) plus a day the car would be out of service or we could send it to claims. I asked a few questions and found out they manage their own claims so that wasn’t going to work. Having to catch a flight, we had no choice but to add another $80 on our bill. We were trapped. So much for our great daily rate. Learnings…be very careful if you choose to rent from Thrifty (they also rent dollar cars in the same location). When you have to rent a car, make the rental agency take it outside of the parking garage into the daylight for you to do the inspection. Document every teeny, tiny scratch, pit, mark on the outside and the inside even it takes an hour to do so. Take pictures and videos. Otherwise, you are exposing yourself to more charges for damages you did not do. I would of paid less if I had gone with one of the other car rental agencies. BTW, I gave them one star only because I had too in order to post this warning to others.
Really nice people and the lowest price I could find. They also gave me a free upgrade.
car was dirty scratched up and tried to over charge us for rental EVERYONE CHECK YOUR AGREEMENT FOR DOUBLE CHANGES
Ignorant staff, unexplained processes. Head office customer service is even worse. They charge way more than originally quoted, and basically rip you off for your deposit even if you return the car in the same condition that it was rented to you. I will never ever do business with this company again. Buyers beware.
Made a reservation a 5 wks in advance for a Wednesday pickup. Due to forest fires, I needed to move this to a Monday pickup. I had to call the corporate number to make this change, as it was a Sunday and this location was closed. No issues with the change over the phone, new price was as expected, and received a confirmation number before the phonecall ended. Went to pickup my car the next day and the office was closed (long weekend in BC). Number listed on the door went straight to the corporate number, who was unaware that this location was closed. All other locations in/around Vancouver were closed, except the airport. I was told I would now have to get my car from the airport and that my reservation had been changed - I was still able to drop it off in Surrey when I was done. 30min later I was at the airport being told that their system didn't show any change and that they couldn't help me - they aren't a franchise like all other thrifty branches. After calling corporate again, now speaking to a different employee. I was told that nothing had been changed, the airport didn't have a car for me, and my only option was to wait until the next day and go back to the Surrey location. I have never dealt with a customer sales rep who cared less. I ended up replanning my vacation to deal with their overwhelming incompetence - ended up missing some hikes I had planned near whistler. I won't be using thrifty in the future for personal or business use. I'm even going to warn my colleagues not to use them and, out of spite, I will reject their expense reports a few times if they do - just to make them second guess going with thrifty.
The guy that took us to the cars didn't explain much when we arrived around midnight to pick up our vehicle. Had to guess at where to go to get out of the lot. The trip back was good and the lady was quick and polite. I would use them again.
Coviniently located near the airport. We got a nice car for the price. Definitely would rent from this company again.
Good service very reasonable rates
Waited at the airport for the shuttle for almost half an hour before the shuttle finally came. In the meanwhile, the shuttles of the other rental companies were at least making their second or third rounds. Reserved a wildcard option, and got a compact car. I was told wildcard option is whatever they have the most in at the moment. What bs ,my car was the only compact car in the whole 5 rows in the lot. Very dirty car, and till I got home I found out what the little warning sign on the dashboard means, out of window washing fluid. Seems they did not check their cars thoroughly before rent it out again! Will not rent from Thrifty again , not worth the hassle.
Worse car rental experience ever! To make a reservation, I was forced to make a $100 non-refundable deposit. This is NEVER required with any other rental companies. When I arrived, the rental price was basically doubled because of insurance and other hidden fees that weren't disclosed until it was too late to cancel the car (and get my deposit back). Do your best to find a different rental agency.
DO NOT USE THIS PLACE TO RENT A VEHICLE THEY SCAM YOU AND OVER CHARGE YOU TO FILL UP THEIR POCKETS WITH EXTRA CASH We rented a 2017 Toyata Sienna that has a fuel capacity of 79L(8/8) from this place and used it for two days and returned the vehicle with a full tank of gas. They have charged me 53.35 dollars on the bill saying that we did not return the vehicle with a full tank. The bill says that 7/8 of the tank was full by the time we returned the car which means we are short of 9.875L of gas. After complaining about this to the customer service he showed us a receipt saying that they have filled up the tank with approximately 33L of gas. Which does not make sense mathematically. This place over charge customers by accusing them with false allegations to make extra money to fill up their pockets.
Car was ready when I arrived and turning it in even at midnight went smoothly after long day of traveling
Shuttle was extremely slow. Car isn’t ready after check in. Huge waste of time.
Unfortunately I did not have the best experience. They did not honor the employee discount through my work. I ended up having to spend way more than I should have. While the staff is somewhat friendly they really try to push sales and herd people through like cattle. They seemed to really care less about anything.
Great place to rent a car, even the guy gave me discount on rental car and helped me with my insurance too, great staff, i really appreciate their business. Must give a try.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Thrifty Rental helped me i am a blue chip member when I was down to my last option.. God blessed me with a vehicle to drive after Renting from thrifty for a couple of months extension after extension and they did everything they could to make sure I was alright thrifty rental is the best place to go rates is cheap customer service at night is bad I think they be tired but have horrible customer service on nights. Management is the best at all time. The staff their in the Morning is the best will go out they way Michelle,Tanesha and a few others I wish I knew their names just put it like this the best time to rent a car is MORNING THEY HAVE THE BEST STAFF and they treat their customers with respect and the customer service in the MORNING is THEE BEST!!! ???? NO SMOKING???????????????? IN THEIR VEHICLES ITS A ????????????$350 DOLLAR ????????????????CHARGE AND THEY DONT PLAY???????? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Worst customer service ever. The women at the counter was the rudest person we have meet in a long time. Not to mention the women at the return who was just a rude. Also the car was a 'piece' and was expensive. We will NEVER rent from this location again.
My flight was late Saturday night. Called Thrifty from Toronto airport. They said they would wait until 1:00 AM - no longer. At 1:20 they were gone - all other rental companies were open waiting for THEIR customers. Went back Sunday as Thrifty said to do (after spending $44 for taxi the night before because they wouldn't wait) to pick up my reserved 1 week rental. They had given my car to somebody else and offered me a Jeep Wrangler instead (rough ride, bad gas mileage). Said to bring that back and swap for my car the next day at a HIGHER price. If they had paid ONE employee for ONE hour, I would have had the car I had RESERVED, not lost $44 taxi fare that they refused to refund, they would have got the $167+ for my rental and not lost a customer for life. These guys are IDIOTS and not to be trusted. Save yourself the aggravation and cost of renting from Thrifty. Higher priced Budget actually cost me LESS in the end. The Thrifty counter also rents Dollar rental cars, so Thrifty and Dollar will never see another dollar from me! I had to give them one star, but they don't deserve even that.
Watch out for these guys. Even if you tell the person behind the counter that you’re denying insurance and extra services, they’ll still throw it on the agreement hoping you’ll just sign it. Fool me once for not reading fine print when I’m trying to rush to see a family member on their literal death bed.
Horrible customer service We reserved a 7 seater van for July 13 and we got all the reservation papers etc. ready but when we got there they said they don't have a van available. Next they wouldn't admit there mistake. We had a extremely though time and ended up 2 hrs late. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL!!!! NEVER GOING BACK THERE
Great experience, Good car, Pleasant People, Will Use Thrifty again. I rented a car for two weeks from the Thrifty location at the Detroit airport. I am a frequent Thrity customer and typically rent from Thrifty at least once per month. I rent at other vendors, as well, so I am familiar with a variety of car-rental stores. The whole experience was normal and without incident or problem. I had a prompt and helpful shuttle ride from the airport. The van was 2/3 full of people and the driver was helpful and talkative. He made a positive first impression regarding Thrifty My rental contract experience was smooth and the desk person was polite. The Chevy Cruze had a couple of paint and chip issues that I reported after a quick walk-around. No problems. My return was quick and the charges were as expected - they matched the quoted cost from my reservation. This is my fifth rental from Thrifty at the Detroit airport location. Each time has been a predictable and smooth transaction. I recommend This Thrifty store.
Either they do not check damage on the vehicles or they tried to scam me. Luckily I had taken photos with a date and time stamp on the pre existing damage on the car so they had no choice but to drop the claim they randomly put on me. I had asked multiple people if they were aware of the damages before I left the location and every on said it’s no problem etc. Make sure to take photos before you leave the location with the time and date!!
Yeah, pick-up at terminal.... Drop off a joke. Picture the movie "planes, trains, and automobiles" but less organized. Only Dallas car rental had been worse. Staff nice but add 30 minutes to what you think you need to return a vehicle.
Company rented car for my training. Very professional and courteous staff.
I have an excellent experience 'EVERY TIME' I do business with them. The in office DTW AIRPORT customer service is A++ My desk clerk was wonderful wish I knew her name, on Thursday around 1:45-3:00 she prepared us for a rental to pick my Grand daughter up from Grand Valley. The CS Reps on the phone had really given my daughter wrong info, itinerary, and time but this counter clerk was so PROFESSIONAL with my daughter being angry an having an attitude herself.. Your staff person was wonderful Thanks So VERY Much..
Staff are very rude
Beware of this place. My original car rental quote was approximately $100. When I got there, I was forced to pay out additional funds totalling to $188. The lady tried charging me for literally everything. Even the GPS was $17 a day. Not only was she unhappy to see me, but threw a hurl of insults at me for "questioning" her insurance "recommendations". She was unable to explain the minute things about their insurance, called me uneducated, and had the meanest look on her face. Never do business with this place.
the staff was very help full, check in and out was very quick. the shuttle drivers were awesome. Thank you for helping make my vacation more enjoyable.
When I get a car at 2 am no body tell me not to smock in a ????. This morning turn the car back they charge me $300.over that not fair
We rented a car from here last year without problem. Because last year went so smoothly, we prepaid for a rental. Today, however, there was a young woman at the front desk that provided the absolute worst customer service I have encountered in years. Do not go here or reserve any cars here if you expect any form of courtesy. First, she tried to force my fiancé to sign for $70 in prepaid fuel when we did not agree to sign for that amount and instead preferred to return the rental car with a full tank on our own. She insisted that without my fiancé signing to agree to the $70, she could not “cancel out the transaction.” Anyone who knows how signing for something works knows that, indeed, signing for $70 means that you agree regardless of what the “customer service representative” tells you. After asking for both her name and her supervisors name upon her refusing to “cancel out the transaction” without my fiancé signing, she refused to provide that information and became extremely hostile. She is unprofessional, failed at providing any customer service, and frankly should not be in the business of dealing with people. It is August 1, 2019. We picked up our prepaid rental at 1:00 am. There were two young women at the desk, and the one that caused this egregious issue had long wavy hair. We will not be renting from here again and advise that anyone reading this review avoid this place at all costs.
We have had excellent service at the Halifax airport location. Very much appreciated.
Waited an hr for our RESERVATION. The car wasnt ready for pick up.
I Approached the counter this morning (August 12 2018) and was greeted with a smile and pleasant customer service. I was on my way within minutes. I would do business with Thrifty again.
The longest line I have ever had the misfortune of waiting through just to get hit with over $100 of fees added on after a reservation. Waited almost two hours in total to get out onto the road...terrible experience, terrible service, won't be using this company again.
Had my vehicle reserved walked in filled out some paperwork and drove away, very uneventful which is good
Complete scam, you will book specific car choice online w/ cost quote, then upon p/up your told its a "mystery deal" & give you a van or something you do not want. Be told they'll upgrade you & double the cost quote. I got a Toyota Corolla for 2 days & cost me $643 - Imagine?!! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS! Go to AVIS!
Don’t know how to talk
Stay away. Horrible customer service. Rented a truck and had to get it and pay for an additional day because they weren't open on the weekends. Returned the truck on the day it was due back and they lost it. They tried billing me for different amounts, several times and I was lucky that my credit union caught it and denied the charges. I tried to call to ask about the charges but was hung up on several times, twice after being on hold for over 30 minutes. They sent me a nasty voicemail threatening me with legal action only to find out they had the truck the entire time. Stay far away. I do not recommend this company to anyone even my worst enemy as I believe in Karma.
Awfull experience. Was told vehichle had 4 wheel drive it did not and i got stuck twice in the snow. Also was given paper work that said car was not cleaned due to weather and if I had it washed to bring back reciept which I did for $9 and the charge would be removed from bill. 3 calls and 45 min no one can even find a phone number to call location direct, Vehicle was not only dirty it had high miles and looked old..
No line came in picked the car. Very smooth and easy to get the car
It's funny that it cost 25% more to prepay for gas after I was talked into it my desk rep! Also they had no cars left and I was put into a car with premium gasoline only and did not notice until my first fill up. So a trip driving all over the state on premium fuel was not cheap, but thrifty did not care. Back to alamo and please inform your customers if the car is premium as they may be on a budget.
From my reservation to changing the pick-up/drop-off changes handled well. The shuttle drivers and the agent at the desk were wonderful. They each went above and beyond. Thank you had a wonderful time at my 40th Collage reunion. The Ultima drove beautifully. Stell Swor.
Thanks Sherry our shuttle driver, awesome service!!!
I was a little skeptical renting a car from Thrifty in St john's because of all the negative reviews. Unlike the other reviewers I had a very pleasant experience. The lady checking me in was polite, pleasant and explained everything. The car was brand new under 10,000 km. Returning the vehicle was easy as well. I paid exactly what I was quoted when I made the reservation.
$13 a day for every additional driver. $19 late fee added before I even drove the van off the lot. Talk about nickle & Dimeing you.
Great service! Even gave me an upgrade on my car rental! Will use this company again, next time I’m in town.
Hi readers, I rented a car on June 9th 2020 Until June 13th 2020. I was supposed to be charged a 200 dollar deposit which was incorrect because I actually was charged $897.00. It was technically a hold on my credit card but still an inconvenience trying to have the issue fixed. I even said to the customer service representative that there was an error However he continued to say I was wrong even though the printed off rented agreement stated that. Yet he continued to say I was wrong. To make matters worse I was given a Vehicle that I wasn't satisfied with and was supposed to have unlimited K/M However that wasn't the case. It just seemed as though I was having issue after issue. On June 10th 2020 the following morning I was in contact with a customer service representative named Wanda and told her I had several issues wrong with my booking and we agreed that I should visit St. John's international airport to fix the issues and address my concerns. She did help correct each and every mistake that was wrong on that day and also helped me switch vehicles which I was also satisfied with. Upon picking up my new rental it was supposed to have a full tank of gas but It ended having only a half a tank, Again I called and spoke to Wanda and had the issue corrected. Yesterday on June 13 2020 I returned with my Vehicle and was again greeted with Wanda and told her the vehicle was fine and I enjoyed it. Then we were proceeding to print off a copy of my recipe and we noticed that I was being charged a late fee when in fact my vehicle wasn't late. She had to correct that as well. Honestly She did amazing and made my experience leaving feeling at ease. I did mention perhaps some type of compensation for all the troubles I endured but didn't get anywhere. It's probably just policy not too be able to have some leeway when these problems occur. Would I recommend Thrifty? I honestly can't answer that question because everyone's experience will be different. Wanda was good at fixing up this complete mess and found she did a good job but on the other hand the first representative who created this entire mess didn't have a clue. At the end of it all I wasn't completely satisfied However I wasn't completely dissatisfied either.
The older man that works there - he’s lovely ... The manager? She is completely disorganized and unprofessional. The people at the desk lack some serious communication skills. I rented a car - the manager pulled it around and said “there’s no major damage” andthat was it. She gave me the key. Didn’t go through any of the features of the car - didn’t do a walk around to see the condition of it. She then gives me the paperwork - completely different car is listed on my agreement. Later that day she calls me to come back so she can switch out the insurance papers because the they had the wrong papers in the car. Good thing I took a picture of the car before I left the lot. It did have damage. When I returned the car - the first thing the manager said was “oh what happened?” I’m Like - are you serious? This is how it was when you gave it to me. I have a picture I took of it the morning of the rental. So then she’s like “oh yah... this one has a claim against it from previous driver who had backed into a curb or something To top it all off - I left a CD in the car and realized after I left. I called to ask someone if they could check and they said they would get back to me. No one got back to me. I called back the next day and again someone was supposed to call me back - obviously they didn’t. So I called back a third time and it was someone who doesn’t normally work at that location - she checked for me and called me back in 3 minutes saying she found the CD. She also said they should have checked and it was the easiest thing to do. So - all in all - if you catch them on a day where somebody from a different location is working there - you’re in luck! She really was great. The manager does not know or care how to run her business She doesn’t keep track of her cars - doesn’t return phone calls and really seems not to care. I’m sure she’s losing a lot of money...
We arrived to the lot around 10PM and found my name on the Blue Chip board with instructions to see agent. Went in and was told they didn’t know why but my reservation had been lost luckily I had it printed out in case. Went out to the compact car section to choose a car and found that the parking lot is incredibly poorly lit making it impossible to inspect cars without a flashlight. The selection and condition of cars was awful. The first car I tried was a Toyota Prius and the second I turned it on the dash display gave a message about maintenance being needed so I moved on to a Ford Focus. The Ford Focus when I turned it on was making an incredibly loud engine knocking noise and sounded like it was on the verge of blowing up. Past this the only choices were tiny box shaped cars like Kias leaving the only other reasonable choice of a Hyundai Accent. The Hyundai had no cruise control and an armrest only on the driver’s side. How do you even buy a car in 2014 without cruise control? Oddly this was the only car to choose from that had satellite radio and didn’t have serious engine issues so I ended up choosing it. The Hyundai along with every other car I looked at had scratches all over, dents, stained seats, no floor mats, showed signs of being in an accident and various other issues. The selection of cars here is horrible and they are horribly maintained. A compact car from this agency would be considered an economy car anywhere else.
Great rental place with nice prices and friendly staff.
This is the worse place. Dishonest and very bad service. My credit card was billed and NEVER rented a car from them. I wish there were zero stars.
Always available vehicles
I prefer renting from Thrifty when they rent in the areas that I travel to. Good experience overall.
Would not recommend this rental car company to anyone. Very poor service, no one was available to assist outside to find the car and show how to work it. Was quoted a price and was way higher than that price and when asked if they had any cheaper options they did not. The people that worked here were very rude. Overall horrible experience.
Very clean car. Very economical MPG car. Way overpriced rental rates.
I love the service at Thrifty Car Rental, fast and efficient. Their staff wear a genuine smile and are truly eager to help. It's heartening they accept debit cards which is often what foreigners carry. Their working hours are also very accommodating of just about everyone who needs to rent a car. I'm a happy customer, a satisfied one at that.
They are friendly, they have the best prices in town, and sometimes because of logistics issues you have to be flexible with what vehicle you get. Mine has ALWAYS been an upgrade to a better vehicle/SUV though. I don't really get the above complaints, most of them are common things when ordering a vehicle rental. Be kind to the people you're dealing with, be flexible with the vehicle you get, and they'll always treat you right the next time you come in. Sometimes these reviews can be so mean but don't represent the company. Steve
great car and service. they had to switch my car, process went smoothly.
Prior to renting from Thrifty, I decided to sign up for their Blue Chip Rewards program. Glad I did, because I found the experience to be a positive one. Since I was a Blue Chip member, I was able to go to the front of the line and was out of the lot within 5 minutes of showing up. When I paid for the return, I found that I was charged $20 less than what I was quoted. When you add all of that along with the courteous staff, it really did culminate in a fantastic rental experience. I recommend Thrifty to everyone.
This is Enterprise, not Thrifty.
We rented a car from this location . Excellent customer services we definitely will hire next time thnku Nazia ????
Treated well. Upgraded vehicle since the standard wasn’t available. Hassle free return. Courteous and fun attendants. Thank you.
This place is a scam. I have rented vehicles for years as I’m a frequent flyer and for first time rented from Thrifty. I was given a vehicle that needed to be retired, very loud thumping coming from back wheel. I tried calling and couldn’t get through to report. I turned in early having for three days and was charged 664.00 for week as they said was cheaper when I called and spoke with the overseas customer svc.
Great deal for one way rental
Best place best customer service always kind
Do not leave car unattended when you return it may end up with extra charges. Car return employee's like to smoke in the cars and leave ashes on dashboard. Then you have to pay for the damages there employee's cause to your vehicle. The company will not investigate your issue either they will pretend they can help and not do anything.
Mid range SUV- paperwork done but none available. Luckily they had one in the car wash and eve more luckily, i happened to like the only one they had.
Horrible experience! Nothing went the way the website said it was supposed to. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! Misrepresentation on all counts from web page to rental desk to phone support. Better off taking a Greyhound bus
ANY POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS LOOK ELSEWHERE, THRIFTY WILL CHARGE YOU MORE WITH NO JUST CAUSE! My experience with this company and specifically this location has been nothing short of exhausting and draining, financially, emotionally and time wise. I was returning my car and the manager of this location told me they would be charging me a smoking fee, though I have never smoked anything in my life. I tried to dispute the charge, but they wouldn't remove the charges from my card, despite not having proof, and i had to accept it so i wouldn't miss my flight home. Once I got back home my boss was livid about the charge, and since my job was being put in jeopardy, I reached out to the Thrifty Rental corporate office, who was able to remove $100 of the $300 charged to my company credit card, the Corporate office stated the local manager had continued to dispute the charge and that there was nothing they could do to remove the remaining $200. This ordeal has been a draining experience that I have been dealing with for the past month. Almost every single day, I have been making calls, trying to get answers and proof of this smoking charge. I spoke with a manager of this location (Kendall) but he stated he didn't dispute it and thus there was nothing he could do for me and now I've been waiting for, coming up on two months to get this resolved, still no reply from a manager or anyone in their accounting department. I am at risk of losing my job and these people are busy playing phone tag with each other. Thrifty still has not provided me with any proof or justification for the charge other than the managers slight hint of smoke she smelled. i would have rather driven from Texas to Michigan than go through this whole situation. DO NOT USE THRIFTY IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY! Thrifty/Hertz has reached out through multiple social media outlets, unfortunately they are not doing anything to resolve the situation, choosing instead to disregard the fact their customer service associate said one thing and they chose to do another, and continuing to offer no proof or justification for the additional cleaning fees. PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR RENTAL NEEDS
Came to Halifax for the weekend; spent the first TWO hours after our flight arrived waiting for a car (that we had pre booked) to arrive. They had NO other cars available?!? Staff was unapologetic and unable to explain the delay. Would never use again.
Reasonable rates. Clean cars and good service. Location quite crampy.
30 min waiting for the shuttle close to two hours just to rent a car. Never again.
The best place on that street. Very good customer service. THEY go out of their way to help customers. Thank you thrifty team
1hour 45 minutes to get the car even if you have a reservation, its a disgrace .....
This was the worst experience I have even encountered, the wait time to get my vehicle was over 1.5 hours - which when your on vacation is totally unacceptable.
Nicole the desk troll was completely rude and nothing short of discriminating... she was quick to dismiss my metal credit card from a foreign bank because she didn't recognize it as a major bank... then when I proceed to ask wht the total of deposit is she combative tells me "I'm not helping you" then proceeds to call security because I refused to leave the counter... I understand her life as a poverty level desk slave is miserable but you can't take it out on customers...
Reserved a sedan and was given a gas-guzzling suv. Only thing the staff would do to help the situation was try to up sell me to an even bigger vehicle. Nobody was around at their office when I came to return vehicle despite having posted hours stating otherwise. Would have just dropped the keys but did not trust this sketchy company to not add on extra charges without paying in person. Do not recommend.
Can a representative, or anyone, please let me know how late the counter is open for check in? One website says 9pm, others say midnight, and others say 11pm.
Horrible service and way too many hidden costs. Even the price I booked at online was magically different when I arrived to pick up.
Never rent from thrifty. You get charged for things he weren’t told about in advance. They will not let you park in their lot, so you have to go pay to park your car somewhere else, which significantly raises the amount that the entire transaction costs. And the desk employees are rude. The people working outside are wonderful, though.
would gave this place a zero.. Had a reservation set in the summer, called the night before to confirm and they say they have the vehicle on their lot. Next moring comes i go in and they tell me the car isnt avaible anymore cause they gave it out.. the car that i resevered weeks in advance. Ended up getting gutless Accent. Whatever a car is a car. Returned the vehicle, i get my credit card statemt. They overcharged me close to $500 from July until this day (November)havent received the refund.. Everytime i call they say it would be a couple weeks, one lady said she will be get back to me, had to give her a call a week later to remind her again..Would not reccomend this place
I love this place I was on my way to my aunt's funeral at 5 a.m. another place refused my reservation Thrifty Car Rental rented me a car and we made it to my aunt's funeral they were a life saver Thank you.
Despite the lower prices here, I encourage you to spend that bit more at alternative, more professional car rental offices in the surrounding area. It took us 1 hour and 30 minutes to pick up the rental car, due to "GPS being unavailable", even though we had pre-booked and pre-paid for GPS to be included with our vehicle. After explaining that we were foreign to Canada and absolutely needed GPS, the agent finally agreed to give us a different car which had GPS pre-installed. I still don't know to this day, why this solution was only offered to us one whole hour after arriving at the branch? Had we not fought our corner, we could have easily left Thrifty with an inferior car and no GPS. This new car of ours was not even ready however, and when it was eventually ready, neither was it clean. We ended up missing our ferry to Vancouver Island, due to lateness, and had to wait another three hours for the next available ferry. In total then, a 4.5 hour time delay, all because these guys can't be bothered to prepare their cars for paying customers in advance!! Upon returning the vehicle, we left a belonging of ours in the trunk. After being cleaned, the item magically disappeared and was to never be seen again. What's more, there seemed to be this whole issue with using Mastercard to pay for the booking, even though they have the Mastercard symbol as a method of payment plastered on the front desk? Again having no other available card to pay, we fought our corner, and the agent finally accepted our Mastercard. In the end, it took 45 minutes to complete the return of the vehicle. Recurring theme here? Quite simply, this was an absolutely horrendous experience. The staff do not care about your complaints either, and have the attitude that they are right, and that the customer is always wrong. It was only when I took my complaint to Thrifty Head Office, that I received some compensation. Looking at other reviews, this branch of Thrifty seems to take and take customer reservations, but fails to deliver on any of them successfully. I have never come across such unprofessional, unsympathetic and rude staff members. Please avoid!!
Decent cars and service
Worst rental experience. I am a student and they charged me an extra 150$ when I returned the car. They put me in a nicer car then when I returned it they said I have to pay for the upgrade. Was really a scam. They were very rude when I tried to argue that I wasn't informed about this. Would not recommend
Great service and help me out alot with rental .
If i could give them zero stars i would. My total was $321 i get my credit card bill and it was $729. I immediately call customer service and was on hold for 40 min and it conveniently hung up. I call back 3 times and no answer. I will file suit for the theft of my money with no explanation. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!!!
Rented a jeep for 12 days. The process of renting the vehicle went very smooth. The rates offered were much more reasonable compared to local competitors.
Had to wait outside as the location was not opened at the time when it should been. The vehicle was not ready - DIRTY and tank half empty. Not a pleasant experience and will not be renting here again.
Total Crooks ! This place overcharged me by almost $300. I provided gas receipts and odometer and gas gauge photos . Buyer beware!!
Worst customer service experience I've ever had to deal with!!!!
We got excellent service from Thrifty at a very good price. Arrived at 9.30pm on a Thursday. One person on the desk. After a short line up we were processed in under ten minutes. We had a choice of a Kia or a Toyota and chose the Kia Forte. Got 4.8litr to the 100Klm. Total price for the week's rental was $319. Dropped it back at 6am and left the keys in the box. Well done Thrifty.
We were supposed to get our car at 10am and now it's 1pm and they still have nothing available. We will likely lose one entire day coz of overbooking and poor scheduling from this rental company. My recommendation is to avoid this rental company if possible.
Thirteen customers in line and ONE person working. I've rented from everyone, but this is my first and last time renting from Thrifty.
I was running late for my flight and decided I just didn't have time to refill the tank, the attendant stopped me to warn me that I would be charged 66 bucks to refill a half tank. I could tell she was bummed about it too... I told her I understood and appreciated the heads up. She went out of her way to get approved for half off that charge. Thanks Trisha, great customer service.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I RENTED A CAR FROM THESE LIARS AFTER HEARING THEM UP-SELL THEIR EXTRA PROTECTION INSURANCE FOR 25 MINUTES. I GOT MY ECONOMY CAR FROM THE BACK OF THE PARKING LOT. DIFFICULT TO ACTUALLY CHECK THE CAR AT MIDNIGHT, I GOT TO THE GATE AND THE GUY JUST ASKED FOR MY DRIVERS LICENSE AND I WAS OUT. LITTLE DID I KNOW THE ORDEAL THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FACE WHEN I RETURNED THE CAR. WHEN I WENT TO RETURN THE CAR, THE LADY SAID I HAD SOME SCRATCHES ON THE FRONT BUMPER. THEY WERE TINY, BUT NOT DONE BY ME. I HAD THE CAR FOR A TOTAL OF 1.5 DAYS. IT WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN ANY DINGS OR ANYTHING. HOWEVER THRIFTY DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR ME OUT. SHE THOROUGHLY LOOKED AT THE REST OF THE VEHICLE AND WROTE A NOTE ABOUT THE FRONT BUMPER. THEY MADE ME FILL OUT A FORM. A FEW DAYS LATER, THEY MAILED ME A $1400 BILL AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY DECIDED TO SAY THE SIDE OF THE DOOR WAS ALSO DAMAGED. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CONDITION I RETURNED THE CAR IN. FOR ALL I KNOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BY THEM WHEN DRIVING IN THEIR LOT. AFTER MANY CONVERSATIONS AND STERN EMAIL THEY FINALLY SAID I AM CLEAR FROM ALL PAYMENTS. TO ME THIS SEEMS LIKE A SCAM. THEY HAVE A PREVIOUS DAMAGE AND IF YOU DON'T NOTATE IT BEFORE HAND THEY SEE IF THEY CAN MAKE AN EXTRA $1500 FROM YOU. THEY SEEM TO USE IT CLAIM AFTER CLAIM ON DIFFERENT CUSTOMERS. CLEARLY THE REVIEWS FROM GOOGLE AND YELP ALL HAVE SIMILAR STORIES. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!
Poor customer service. The Indian lady hangs up on you when she cant answer a question. Never rent from there again....waste of time.
I booked this car company as a packaged deal with spirit airlines and paid ahead of time and was told I was "all set". When I showed up, the gentleman told me that I had to pay an extra $180 for taxes and fees but kept handing me a receipt that said $517. I asked him over and over what the price was because if it was an additional $517 I didn't want it. But no I was sworn that it would only be the $180. Well I get the car and there is old trash in it, a smoke screen on the windshield and the rearview mirror, smelled wet inside, buttons on the radio didn't all work correctly and couldn't get the back of the seat to move. I return the car and they tell me all about how they need good reviews so they can stay being open vs. "The big guys". Fast forward a couple days and they charged me the whole $517. This made all of my bills bounce so I called customer support and the woman was nice but they can only refund $100 to me when I have paid about $700. The worst part was this was a volunteer trip to Texas to help those effected down there so I not only wasn't making money but then got stiffed by these guys. I would tell you to run from this place and go with any other company.
