Great Customer service and really easy to register. I love dealing with this company and I wouldn't look anywhere else.

Convenience is great! But the cost is so expensive, it's cheaper to go to National down the street and book a car for 24 hrs for $30. I just paid $21 for a 1.5hr use of MODO, that is outrageous. Only worth it if you use it for a very short time, but even then if you do the math, it's not cost wise, only convenience wise.

Car sharing is the future.

I understand carsharing isn't for everyone, but for me, it's been fantastic! I live and work in downtown Victoria. Having Modo as an option has reduced my transportation costs to less than half of what I was paying when I had a car. This includes trips over to Vancouver, where I can book a car over there, instead of paying to bring a car over. I definitely need to carefully consider my plans, so that I can book my time appropriately, but that's super easy, barely an inconvenience.

The best two way car sharing company in Vancouver! Also has the most impact on reducing congestion on the roads. My husband and I don’t even have to own a car thanks to Modo. Support your local, friendly neighbourhood car co-op!

We started renting MODO over a year ago and we were SO impressed with the cars and the service but steadily over the last year everything has declined. Now we must walk a mile to get a car - they rent out our closest car 2 weeks at a stint. SO very disappointed.

Their services were great until I dented a fender, which I immediately reported and was ready to pay for. Unfortunately they sent me an invoice billing me for $1800 in extra aesthetic repairs to the hood and doors, charges for 'removing and replacing the sticker' on the doors, and repainting most of the car, all of which needed no repair. It's pretty unfortunate as I tried to do the right thing and they've done their best to try and take advantage of me. I've even called them to try and reason with them and they ignored me and are insisting I pay for all these extra fees as they want their cars looking 'brand new', which if you've looked at their other vehicles, they are covered in scratches and dents, so clearly they're just trying to get me to pay to update their car. I'm super disappointed and want people to know about this, so if I were you I'd look elsewhere.

Member since 2015. I've been very happy with the service since I joined. I don't need a car very often so using Modo instead of owning a vehicle is great.

Clean cars, reasonably priced trips. I'm no longer considering buying a car.

Monika Hofmeier

We've been very happy with them. Great when you need a car for a few hours. I had to re-activate my account recently and it was very quick. I was able to use a car the next day.

Rick Dowdall

Now transitioning into Modo this is a great way to be easy on the environment your pocket book and also have no worries about car crap like keys, insurance and papers.

They are not here anymore.

Good set up. We rented for a month when visiting, to have the opportunity to cruise around Victoria as needed.

David Strand

For anything longer than a few hours or a few blocks, costs as much or more than a traditional car rental place but with vastly worse customer service.

Tina T

So far it's been ok. but a couple things that really stood out and has lowered my review is that the cars with special abilities like you can drive them as a manual or a standard, doesn't provide clear and concise information. For instance, the stick must be in D to the right for auto, and D to the left for Standard. nor does it explain how to drive it in standard without an actual gear stick. and also, I received a $50 credit upon signing up thanks to the company I signed up through. THIS WAS NEVER TOLD TO ME. It expired in one month and I didn't use it at all. I thought that was extremely bad customer service of the company not to let me know. We'll see how it goes forward. I"m still pissed about losing $50 credit.

One of your drivers cut me off in traffic

I have the membership since 2008 before modo. It was Victoria carshare coop. Mostly I use it for truck and cargo van. Only one thing I wish they can change one thing. It would be awesome/smart, if I can park my own car on the coop spot with a coop tag while I am driving coop vehicle. Since most of time I have to drive myself to the truck/van location, I need to park my own car. But the city/parking company will give me a ticket for it. Normally there is no free parking around! The coop parking spot would be empty anyway while we rent the vehicle! Negotiate the tag with the parking landlord.

They keep changing how their pricing works, super confusing, trips that were reasonable 6 months ago are now exorbitant. I don't think they know how to run a business. Website never works properly, app is a joke. For some reason they think they are eco friendly company while 90% of fleet are gas cars, many of them SUV's... smh.

Claude Moreau

In my opinion the best renting car company in Victoria. Phone support is very good and they have a great pool of cars all over Victoria. Very good value especially with the Modo Plus membership.

When I first signed up for Modo they provided amazing customer service, always went out of the way to help out and even left a small Starbucks gift card for a free drink. Over the past few weeks I had one bad experience after another: I took a car out the Friday before Canada day, the traffic was crazy as expected, but the gas tank was only 10% full! Long story short, I spent almost an hour trying to find a gas station that wasn't packed and circling during crazy traffic hoping I don’t run out of gas. When I called Modo to correct previous drivers’ error of not filling up, they told me as a car-share user I need to ABSORB THAT COST (are you serious?!) but they would be happy to double dip and charge the person before me for not filling up. Another time, I tried to move a booking from one car to another one (as it became available last minute and much closer to me) they asked me to cover full cancellation cost of the original trip... I really hope another car-share comes to Victoria soon and puts Modo in their place.

Please note that Google currently has the hours wrong (we've sent an edit). Modo Victoria office hours: Mondays and Wednesdays 2 to 5pm Thursdays 9am to 12pm (excluding statutory holidays)

Really disappointed - honestly just take a taxi, way too much of a hassle. Modo got rid of several of the better locations downtown and the prices just aren't worth the extra hassle of walking to get the cars and then walking home with your stuff, you'll always be rushing and checking the clock and praying no-one books it right after you so the whole experience is generally quite stressful - plus it's often sketchy walking down underground driveways to get to the cars the only easy way. Staff basically stole $50 from me for a damage pool I did NOT consent to and were very unfriendly on the phone about it.

Have now been using Modo for close to a year (both in Victoria and Richmond), and have been very satisfied. There are several cars in my neighbourhood so usually have not had a problem finding a vehicle, and when I required service the staff were nothing but pleasant. Would love to see cars in more distant areas (i.e. satellite cars near bus hubs, so I can bus to a location and use Modo from there) but imagine that future service upgrades may account for this. Great business model :)

The price was reasonable a few months ago. Now it's outrageous. It's only useful for very short trips. I started to reuse the traditional car rental.

Super happy with my Modo experiences to date. I have an older EV which is perfect for using around town and my community, as the range us only 130 km. Rather than buy a newer model, I joined Modo so I could try out some 400 km per charge vehicles and book them for trips I need to take when I go out of town. I had a couple of questions and found the phone support to be positive and very helpful. The vehicles were clean, charged up, and ready to go. Having the manuals in the glovebox was handy when I needed to look up something, such as how to set and release the parking break. Booking online is really easy and I find the pricing very reasonable. I really appreciate my city’s initiative in partnering with Modo to offer two EV’s and a hybrid car to citizens when they need a vehicle-borrowing option. Thank and best wishes.

To open an account; they're asking a full driving history from where you lived; even if you have 20+ years of driving experience and already have no-claims certificate from your ex-insurance policy. All documents should be gathered from the embassy and must be officially translated by an ICBC approved translator. None of other car sharing systems nor rentals asking this. And another thing is; they're asking 750 CAD as deposit. If you don't have proper insurance policy for your cars; switch the business! I could only say; good luck you guys!

I'm not someone who gives a review.. but after using modo for some months... the customer service is not friendly and dont seem to understand their customers... I have started to use modo very less compare to what I use to use it in the past months. The reason for this is their customer serivce, am sure to find an alternative soon.

Harpreet Singh

I feel bad leaving this one star review because I really liked the service when I had a membership. Every Modo employee I have interacted with has been incredibly nice, but I have been waiting for 3 months since I cancelled my Membership to get my security deposit back. It is my money! What kind of service holds onto $700 3 months after cancelling the service! They first told me I will get it through mail, then they told me I will get a refund back on my credit card and now again they are saying they will send me the cheque through mail. Makes me wonder if they are having liquidity issues and this is just a way to delay paying out to people who are cancelling.

James Richy

Modo is a great car share co-op, with very good pricing and lots of cars. They are there to help on the phone as well. There is one flaw, and that is the website for booking. It's glitchy, and very user -unfriendly.

This does not reflect the service itself but the people who drive the vehicles should pay extra attention to the rules of the road. A modo driver today nearly hit a "N" driver due to a complete failing to stop for a stop sign

Paid $15 for a 30 minute trip. Cant wait for evo to come to vic.

The team at CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers has been using Modo vehicles in Victoria for more than 4 years, and the recent growth of the fleet gives us several vehicle options nearby. The cargo vans work well for hauling gear to events, and our filmmakers use passenger vans to move their crew. Great to have a local co-op providing transportation options!

I feel almost reluctant to leave this review, seeing as how my wife and I have enjoyed being members of the co-op for many years. However, after the events of this week, I'd be remiss not to let people know what to expect when you sign up with Modo. Late Monday evening, I received a form email saying that I was being investigated for vaping in a Modo vehicle. This was a shock as neither my wife nor I have ever smoked/vaped, nor have we travelled with ANYONE (smoker or not) since the start of the pandemic. We seemed to recall a somewhat funny smell, but nothing worth reporting (and we're usually very proactive in reporting damage, mess, etc). I responded, unhappily, within minutes. I stated we do not smoke/vape and that I was not happy with the way the email threatened my account with termination and a cleaning bill. I expected a response but got none, until.... I was told my account had been suspended for 90 days because I vaped in the car, and that I was liable for any cleaning fees. Another form email. I emailed again, again with minutes of receiving the email -- no reply. My wife called in to cancel her membership and pull our shares. Explained the reason and was told, essentially, "that sucks." When I *finally* got a manager to call me back, I was told "this could have been handled better, but...."; "you have to understand we get a lot of emails"; "from our perspective..."; etc. By this point I was done with Modo, the excuses, and the indifference towards its members. We've been members in good standing with the co-op for many years and were appalled at how we were treated. We'd always been forthright in our dealings: reporting damage, paying out of pocket for a small accident, etc because we loved being members. However, based on how we were treated this week -- with Modo's refusal to respond to emails, with them escalating a situation to the point of account suspension with nothing more than form letters, with allowing my wife to leave with nothing more than a shoulder shrug, and with the completely ineffectual response from management -- we've terminated our membership and will now rely on Evo.

Charged me the pooled insurance without asking first. When I asked to have the amount removed from my card they refused. Customer service was horrible. Also, there are many times I used this service and it would have been cheaper to just rent a vehicle. Make sure you do your research first before diving in.
