Very disappointing. I arrived at 7.30 pm to find budget and national rental booths open and Hertz booth closed. Who has ever heard of an airport car rental being closed? Unfortunately for me, My car was booked through Hertz. It was disappointing when no one answered the phone they offered to resolve issues. I was marooned. I had to rent a car from National who were open. A day later I picked up the Hertz car and I was told the booth was manned by a husband and wife team who work bankers hours. Once I got the car and got in it there was an essay typed in large print on bright yellow paper about returning the car clean, without pine needles or any trace of dog hair and if I dare to bring the car back having used it in this rural area on gravel driveways, and the car was dirty in their opinion - I had better be ready to pay extra cleaning charges along with a days rental service fee as they wash the car by hand which is apparently time consuming. I could hardly believe any of this. If you are flying into Nansimo Airport use Budget or National. I don’t recommend Hertz.

My experience with Hertz was more than great but Fantastic. We booked a car with the competition but they didn't have our car and wanted to give us a van. We stepped next door to Hertz and they helped us out. This family run car rental operation deserves my business because they earned it. They showed us every one's price so we could compare. Hertz had the lowest prices and they still added a coupon for a better deal. They were decorated for Christmas and it looked amazing. They said it was not a competition but you can see the clear winner was Hertz. Looks like I know who to rent form next time we visit Vancouver Island. Thank you Kirk & Susanna for making our vacation better.

Thank you for your excellent service. I had booked a midsize from another company and she tried to give me a pick up truck or I can upgrade to a 4x4 for $30day more. Hertz gave a mid size car for a better price. This office is run by husband and wife team so you know they will care about their customers.

Allows bookings even though they know they wont be open. Worst Hertz experience ever. Update I appreciate the response from the owners (I didn't reach out to them) I rented a car from them again and it was a good experience. Easy pickup and drop off. I enjoy the fall decorations they put up also. My previous issue was with Hertz corporate for allowing a car to be rented from a location that was closed.

The lovely couple at Hertz was so accommodating and kind as my husband and I were traveling for the first time with our infant daughter. They removed the carseat charge ("that would be like charging you for a seatbelt!"), gave us the inside scoop on Family Parking when returning our vehicle, and were flexible in vehicle selection. After a long day of travel and a lost bag full of all our baby things (Murphy's Law in action), I was so tremendously grateful for their humanity.

terrible prebooked car rental online arrived and no car avail I had to go elsewhere with extra money. I jad to call over 4 times and wait over 8 weeks for return credit for my prebooked online 5 day rental. Horrible experience had me sooooo upset. The man was quite blunt,rude and not sympathetic to their mistake.

Very disappointing experience. I was provided a quote and booked through Hertz, as I have done before. I understand an additional charge for pre-paid gas would be added on. When I returned the car, I was charged extra for something called "concession pass thru fee". I was not charged this in prior years, and there was no mention of it during my initial booking. I contacted Hertz - it took 9 business days for them to reply, just pointing me back to our agreement, no mention of what this tax was or how it ended up on my bill. I verified last year's receipt, and it was there, but included in my original quote, so that is fine. I guess they can double dip if they want. Car and cleanliness was great.

Probably the worst rental car place ever. I chose Hertz only because there was no availability at Budget. The staff were not helpful at all and were unfriendly when we pick up & dropped off the car. I am so regretting that I didn’t read the reviews before the rental. The price was much higher than the Budget and there is no customer service at all. I will never use Hertz ever again.

I booked a car through Hertz at the Nanaimo airport location for a four day period over a long weekend. I booked the vehicle months in advance. Two days before my rental I got a call from the owner of the location on my cell telling me that my car would not be available as they had one car out which had been in an accident. I said that's not my problem, and further noted that they could simply get a replacement car from another Hertz location, all of which would be available with two full days notice. The owner got very annoyed very quickly and said that "he was doing me a favour by telling me that I wouldn't have a car, rather than me showing up to no car." He hung up. I called Hertz's corporate number. They assured me a car would be there. They had my reservation. There was no accident and it would be available. I had a bad feeling about the situation and booked a car with Budget for almost triple what I paid. I showed up to the Hertz location, family in tow, and sure enough Hertz had no car for me. And even more appalling was that they closed early and left myself and two other families on the same flight without cars! He literally turned off the lights early to avoid us. The Budget employee sighed and said this was a typical scam they run. Cancel value priced bookings over long weekends and then rent out the same car to last minute bookings at 3x the price. I made a formal complaint to Hertz as well as the BBB in Nanaimo. Do not use this Hertz location.

Was quoted $409 to rent via a rental site and reserved it. To my surpise checking my CC statement, I was charged over $600. I returned the car clean, fully fueled stopping at the Husky off the highway to ensure a full tank for the next renter. Disappointing to the max after an expensive BC trip. The person who took the car back acted as if I interrupted his day with literally zero personality and service - it was almost awkward as I chatted him up and was left feeling stupid for trying to engage in conversation. Will stick with Budget or Enterprise moving forward for sticking to a quoted price.

Some of the best customer service I have ever received. I came to Nanaimo for work and originally was booked with National. I got to the counter and the agent told me there was an issue with my booking and that I'd also have to put down a $1000 deposit, just a huge mess overall. So I went next door to Hertz to see what my other choices were. The husband and wife team were amazing. They did not have the car I was looking for ready to go, but went out of their way and cleaned one on the spot for me. They also price matched another company to save me some money and waived fees without me even asking. I was blown away. Don't even bother looking at the other two companies that operate at this airport. Go straight to these guys. Thank you Hertz!!
