As usual with Gold getting the car is low to no hassle. JFK is a sprawling airport and the rental center is an AirTrain ride of variable stops (depends on your arrival terminal), but I'd call it average in my experience.
Rapid service, no issues. Only complaint was the return signage. Huge Hertz sign by the Advantage renting area; I had to take it back downstairs. Also they told me I should have left the key in the car, that seemed unwise since there were no personnel out there
They have no cars. Do not rent from here. Horrible.

OMG, Karen is the best! Talk about accommodating, great personality, and very helpful, she's hands-down the epitome of customer service excellence! Even when the car I was scheduled to rent wasn't available, she did everything in her power to keep me calm and truly went above and beyond in fixing the situation. Ultimately, this is the type of service that keeps me renting from Hertz, when I'm traveling out of town and unwilling to put miles on my own vehicle.
Amazing customer service. Walked in after waiting an hour at Budget for our reservation. They gave us a car in 5 minutes and it was cheaper than with Budget.
Extremely under staffed. I had a reservation for 11pm & I'm presidents circle. But there were no cleaned cars available in the lot, only returned vehicles that still needed cleaning. Everyone had to wait for one agent to check them in (regardless of status), and another to bring you a car as they were cleaned one at a time. I only got my vehicle at 12:36am over an hour and a half wait. Employees did a great job handling the huge work load, it's management here that needs to change.

A really bad experience in July 2021 - 2 agents at the windows during a Friday rush hour at 4pm - wait was over an hour (one of the agents left for 20 minutes during that time) - as a Compact car for "5 people", I received Chevrolet Spark - I could barely fit at the driver's seat and was very uncomfortable after 15 minutes of driving - worst of all, there was a cigarette smell in the car that became obvious after a few minutes of driving. At time of pick up, there was no other car available so I decided to continue but it was simply the worst experience I have ever had renting a car
Hertz at JFK was a life saver! Not only was the experience easy, they helped us out of a huge bind. After dealing with Thrifty for over an hour and then 4 others for another hour, Hertz was able to get us in a car and on our way. The service was great, selection was great, and the pricing was comparable to the others.
Fast service but I expected to pay less than half what I paid. I have been a Gold member for 20 years now and all they offer and tiny little cars at high rates. Time to change companies.
This is for Thrifty branch of Hertz. 1st we rented it a 5 passenger car, after waiting for 2 hours they gave us a car that 2 seated and very tiny space in the back that only pet can sit. They I waited 20 more minutes, they they switched it to another car. The car key was old that you actually have to put inside the door and turn to open the car. When we get ro out destination we got out the car went inside and came back after 20 minutes, they car was automatically locked and qe couldn't open it with the key. We called them after 40 minutes online rhe said maybe the battery is low. We told them there is no battery in the key , the the door cannot be locked with the key, they sent AAA. Even AAA couldn't use the key to open the car . We requested them to change the car they totally ignored. 2 days that we have the car we were not able to lock the car anymore being afraid that we can't open it any more and we have belongings in the car. Today when I returned the car rhe have the audacity to charge me extra $75 for emergency service call of AAA for the thing that they should have change the car to begin with. Worse experience ever .
Two hours on line after appointment though, another hour waiting on a actual car. one cashiers with over 10 people waiting for cars. Customers on the line waiting and others waiting actual rentals. This place is great six computers and one rep one being supervisor by a guy when approached by another customer he refused to talk to. Customer are screaming open a another register. Never dealing with hertz (JFK) again when u have customers waiting outside for a rental that they reserved more than two weeks ago and confirmed within 24 hours. Lady over there is too rude to answer anything. Car wasn't clean properly. Finally, they charged me 70 bucks plus 1 day extra insurance for being 16 mins late coz they wrote the time when i paid on register rather than getting actual car. Ultimately rip off place.
5 Star members but not express service in JFK branch. Although the whole pick process is OK, I will suggest to improve the service for higher end members. I got what I reserved car class and specific fleet which is awesome for me! I will recommended but it could be better! cheers!

Really nice personnel, quick and easy procedure - but they gave us a 2015 Malibu (in October 2016) standing at the very end of the big parking lot where we went with all our baggage. The car wasn't even cleaned thoroughly (hundreds of bug spots at the front and dirty wheels). The explanation of one rental guy, that most people don't care about the car they rent, didn't seem too convincing - seems they thought Germans wouldn't know the differences between the '15 and '16 model. Our insisting on getting the 2016 Malibu (the lot was flooded with them !) took about 20 minutes more waiting time before they were able to give us the car wanted. And don't expect a free update as an excuse! No way. Checking in two weeks later was fast and easy, though - as we always experienced at Hertz.
WATCH YOUR RECEIPT AND CREDIT CARD STATEMENT. Be Careful of fuel charges added days after car was returned. We dropped the car off on March 21 will a full tank. An Hertz employee nicely offered to drive us to to the terminal so we did not take the Airtrain. I got a bill emailed to me for the car and when the credit card bill came in there was a $43.90 charge for March 27. This was curious as I was out of the country. When I called they said a fuel audit was done. They did credit me but really a fuel audit done 6 days later! This was sleezy. Also the the receipt that was emailed to me was different than the receipt on line which was $43.90 more!

The first car they brought me had high mileage and had no registration inside of it, wich I would eventually need because I was going to cross the boarder to Canada. After waiting a long time to find an employee to bring another car in conditions to travel. This took me almost 2 hours, I was tired from the 10 hours flight and hungry. The installations are good and people at the desk are helpful, but they must invest in customer care and training urgently.

Customer service was good. The first car they gave me had a tire pressure sensor light on. None of the cigarette lighters worked. I returned the car after wasting 30 minutes, only to be given a replacement car whose right turn signal blinker doesn't work! I only realized this halfway through my rental. Quality control is a real issue here. They should be regularly checking their cars. The ironic part is if I had gotten a violation for the faulty blinker, I would have had to pay them an additional 'administrative fee.'
One of the best hertz location and customer service very professional also polite. The manager Eric helped me alot regarding my reservation. Definitely I'll be back soon. He explained what benefits I could get with hertz gold membership so I joined right way. Thanks Eric and Karen

Got a great rate for 4 days. They gave me a brand new Nissan Rouge sport with only 2 miles on it. They only drawback was there was only 1 customer service rep so we had to wait for almost 30 minutes. Drop off was fast and easy.
Wow wow 3 hrs to get a reserved car. Why? Poor management. For the weekend they only had on staff 1 person for reservations and 1 person to both clean the cars and bring them to the customers. On top of that my car smelled so HEAVY of cigarettes! So I really don’t know how clean the car was but I for sure wasn’t going to wait for another one. I just sprayed and wiped everything down myself. Only had the car for 24 hrs anyways. Never again smdh
Due to the company's financial situation this branch is very understaffed. The staff I met were great people who tried their best but the wait on this past Sunday from arrival till I left with a car was a little over 3 hours. They told me that during the week there isn't a wait but on Sunday when there's a lot of people, the two workers dealing with customers simply can't keep up. I am a hertz gold member but they did not have ultimate choice available. I'm not sure if this is just on Sunday or the rest of the week too. In the end I got a car and they offered me $50 off my rental or a free tank of gas for waiting. Also there was a mix up with my documents that they were able to sort out. It goes to show that the people working here are great people, just understaffed when it gets busy. I would recommend not renting from here on a Sunday unless you have time to spare and want a free tank of gas. I hope Hertz gets back on their feet and is able to hire more workers because they're a really great company that I've been renting from for a long time.

wanted $500 deposit on credit card. all other agencies accept debit cards. Not Hertz. Will not recommend to anyone that asks. Update...was sent a very generic canned response stating concerns will be passed on to management at that location. Valentina, that was such a poor reaction to a very bad e xperience . We rented with Hertz for the first time at Newark a week before Thanksgiving. We typically go with National but Hertz had the better rate if we pre-paid but even with covid, they aren't doing full refunds so we waited until a day before the trip to book prepaid. I have President's Circle with Hertz even though I don't frequently rent with them. The car selection was mediocre at best. Five star had full size cars, impalas, and eco sports. President's Circle has impalas, altimas and Rogue's. While they're definitely upgrades over the mid-size car I reserved, it just wasn't consistent with what's offered in the Executive Aisle at National. We got pretty lucky since I checked the Gold area and found a Jeep Wrangler which we took instead of anything in the President's Circle or Five Star areas
They are very understaffed. I rented a car and when I went to pick it up they “could not tell me when my car would be ready”. They said they were understaffed and it was taking longer to clean cars than they expected. If they cannot staff properly to get people their rental cars in a timely manner, then they should NOT be open and allowing people to reserve cars. I was over two hours late to my appointment.

Took the air train here. Got the car I wanted, and it all went through smoothly/ No small hidden letters (So far). It took me 5 minutes to return the car. Perfect solution if you fly from JFK.

This company is total sucks! I rented car in April, they refused to accept a debit card for deposit. But rent was already paid and I was forced leave $300 cash deposit. But you can't get you deposit back in cash, so I have been waiting check from Hertz for 4 month at the moment! They failed mail check twice and I called them 8 times already. Today they said that I need wait 6 weeks more!!! And they refuse to provide tracking number.

Absolutely horrendous staff please do not give these people your service they do not deserve it. The lady working this morning was the most unprofessional and bad worker I've seen in a long time. Enough that I had to write a review about it for the first time. With a combination of laziness, ignorance, and sheer lack of common knowledge my experience renting a car was ruined.

First and last time I rent with Hertz. Reasons: 1. Bad treatment from staff at the counter because she didn't know I was a gold member. She didn't know I was a gold member because my rental was not under my gold member number somehow. She spoke to me with an attitude but in the very next breath she was very nice to my brother who rented another car and was a gold member. 2. When we got to the car lot, there was nobody in our section to direct you to your car or do the inspection with you. I had to go to the gold member lane to get assistance from that person. 3. Once I got the car and set off on my 3 hour drive, we realized water was dripping under the dash board on the passenger side. 4. When we got to our destination in Princeton NJ, we found a bunch of big spiders in the car. 5. Thank god there was a Hertz office at our hotel. The only good thing for this rental was that the guy at that office exchanged our car with no questions asked and we even got a bigger car. 6. After the rental, I noticed that I was charged 7 tolls. I was only responsible for 1. I was being charged for the previous driver's tolls. I contacted Hertz and after an already bad rental experience, they offered no help. I had to contact platepass myself to get my refund. I had high expectations for Hertz and gave them a try. I guess I won't be doing that again.

Although the availability of a car choice was limited to one car, I would like to compliment the employees at Hertz. A young man, Abbot, helped me when I was picking up the car. He was polite and friendly and inspected the auto professionally. When I returned the car, Sugrim ( and Dasie) offered me a courtesy ride to the Delta terminal. This eliminated having to take the auto train. I was thankful as I was exhausted. I want you to know how polite, gracious and helpful both of these Hertz employees were. Thank you, P Koppinger

Horrid experience. We were in New York for two days visiting a sick relative, and our two days were cut to one because the car was not ready. We arrived there at 1:50 pm with a reservation set for 2:00pm. We did not receive our car until almost 8pm! This was the first and last time We will ever use Hertz. I don’t blame the staff I blame the company. Do yourself a favor and choose any other car rental than this place. Especially, if you have somewhere to be.
Horrendous experience! I am currently still standing in line to tell them I'm here. I have bee. Standing in this line for almost an hour. The 1 worker...yes 1 worker at a major airport just stepped out. I have already been told it will be 20 minutes from the time I pay...so we are looking at a bare minimum of an hour and a half experience to get a damn car...

Was able to pick up a car without a booking or reservation without any hassle. The first car that we got from this location had a system malfunction within 2 hours of leasing, within 10 mins got confirmation to swap with a similar car and trim at any hertz location for zero cost which was nice. This was my first trip to NYC and HERTZ hospitality was commendable.
Rented twice, same bad experience: The black woman behind the counter is always on the phone talking casually, and just dismisses you as her customer to figure it out on your own. It's a shame, as everyone else is stellar. cars are out of date and usually higher mileage

Worst place to rent a car ever. As of this moment we have been standing in line for over an hour and have still not gotten to the counter, where there is one person working who takes at least 20 mins for each transaction. Literally any other company would have been a better choice. I’ve never had an experience this bad renting a car. Avoid hertz at all costs

Rented and reserved a Mid size SUV and they gave me a mini SUV.
It was OK. The selection was sub-par for the class of car I rented. The inside of the building is very nice and the employees were courteous. It would really be nice if they had a courtesy bus instead of using the AirTran.
Just the worst. Reserved a month ahead and was allowed to pick up any car in the 5star car lot. Problem was there were no cars in the entire lot. 3 other people waiting. Took an hour for cars to be ready. Terrible

Karen at jfk location was great she helped us out. We had arranged car rental through another agency and when we got there there did not have any vehicles available even though we had made a reservation. That’s when I walked over to hearts desk and Karen was great. She was friendly polite and helpful in every way. Gain thnks Karen for helping us out in a jiff..
We had booked a car to drive from JFK to our hotel. We arrived at the agency well after 11PM. There was a line of 3 customers, and only one employee. We had to wait for about 10 minutes. We were not assigned a specific car, but were told to go to 'zone 1' of the parking lot. No employee was available there to verify whether we loaded our heavy luggage in the type of car of our reservation. The employee at the exit was very friendly and confirmed we were in the right type of car.
Bad service
Had a great experience! Would add two suggestions: 1) Have an automated phone feature where Customers can add on rental days with a confirmation number. (It's not easy for all to access wifi on the road in order to upgrade.) And, 2) Create a Hertz Kiosk where customers can print out their final receipts. Not everyone wants to wait for an email to arrive to see what trip charges have been incurred. Thanks!

Be warned they are low on staff and cars, we pre-booked a week ago, but they were totally confused that we were there to pick a car up. 20mins after completing the paperwork a guy was going to see if he could find a car and then he’d needed to clean it.... terrible service....(we were the only customers there....so how it could take so long ......). Took over an hour to get a car from the time we had the rental contract. There was an issue with power in the car park so we had to wait for that to come back before we left. Returning the car was equally poor, seems they neglected to associate our rental with the car they gave us, so that became our problem too (instead of just working it out themselves) we had to spend ages returning the car. I’m unsubscribing for Gold Membership as I’ll never use this service again
Nice rep at the counter late night but this location is understaffed. So slow. Other customers waiting for cars...sleeping in the lobby. All this yet I don't think there's a better option. I've had issues with all rental companies at Federal Circle.
Me and my husband rented a car online, and came here for pick up. The employee didn’t accept my husbands credit cards. She said: your wife’s name is on the system, and her name should be on the credit card. We are married! Our budget are togerher! She said my card didn’t work, but I can see Hertz took $500 on my card. Now, I went to the and of the line and waiting again.

The most HORRIBLE place to choose for rent a car. Friday evening the office is full with people and there is only one person to take care of the customers. We flew from WPB, Florida to NY for less than 2 and a half hours, and we spent already more than 2 1/2 hours to wait on the line ( KEEP IN MIND WE HAVE RESERVATION)!!! Haven't experienced that bad customer service for longest!!!

I used to love renting from here but lately, they've become a bait & switch company, running the place on a skeleton crew. Most cars are scratched up. Always take video of your car and pics just in case. Watch your bill very, very carefully. They will try to upcharge you and give misc fees. These people do dirty business. Keep your eyes peeled with these people. They are not honest folk.

Rental car companies are genuinely the worst companies that exist. They bait and switch you on price, they make you wait for hours, and have such terrible hours of service that they make it nearly impossible to return the car. I’ve rented a dozen cars this past year due to covid and a fear of public transportation. In nearly every case, I have become so frustrated that I have considered buying my own car just for the 10 of so times that I needed to drive this year. When I went into hertz this morning I was expecting a similar experience. I arrived an hour early because I expected a long wait, but to my surprise, there was nearly no line. They didn’t bait and switch me on price, and they allowed me to pick any car I wanted out of the lot. Maybe I have a very low bar. If this was any other type of company, it would probably be 3-4 stars and I still haven’t returned the car yet, so hopefully I am not speaking too soon, but this was so far the best experience I’ve had with a rental car company.
They have too bad services. Way too expensive as we paid $820 for 3 days for sedan but it was shown less than even $300 but too many hidden price were added when car returned. I AS A CLIENT VERY STRONGLY NOT SUGGEST TO USE THEIR SERVICES!!!

I booked a car by online and there was nothing about $200 deposit and for some reason I had to change the reservation by phone. When I change my reservation by phone that teller also didn't tell me anything about deposit;but when I go to hertz for car then they told me about $200 deposit. It shouldn't be like this. Everything should be clear either online or by phone.

Even if the cars are sometimes not perfect prepared for me the best rental company. If there are some problems the guys from the front desk will make you satisfied again. Of course it should not be needed to complain anything but by so many rentals a day I can understand that not everything runs straight.
First time renting from this location. First, they didn't have any of the class of vehicle that I reserved. It took them 3 hours and going through four different vehicles to find me one that seemed to be clean and free to mechanical/electronic issues. That one (car #4) had issues too though (burnt out headlight, inoperative wipers, trunk filled with garbage/tortilla chips), which I rectified myself as was already well into my trip and not close to Hertz. I wound up bringing the car back a day early to exchange again, but they closed out the contract before I had the chance. Once they did that, they told me they couldn't offer me another vehicle as the contract was closed. They said I'd need to book an entirely new rental... with the daily rates for that last day being what I paid for the entire week on my just-closed rental. I called the 800 number and was told they were mailing me a $100 voucher for a future rental that I could put towards that extra day. That would cover maybe 1/4 of the inflated daily holiday rates, and I can't even use it because it won't be here for 3-5 weeks Four cars with issues, none of which were the class of vehicle I paid for, a botched exchange attempt that left me without a car for the remaining day on the contract, and the assistance I get is... nothing. Now I'm stuck either shelling out $400/day for a new rental (whether with Hertz or someone else) or waiting to give my family presents until sometime after Christmas when rates come back down to earth. No complaints. We received an email in flight with our car location and the car was ready upon arrival at Hertz. We were in and out within a few minutes. Also, if you didn't know, married couples can automatically drive the rental car regardless of who booked the reservation without having to register an additional driver.
3 and a half hour wait to get my reserved car
I’ve never had such a horrible car rental experience in my entire life. To begin with, there was only 1 employee at the counter (Christopher) whom was extremely rude & inconsiderate. My reservation was for a STANDARD sized car, but for some reason, Christopher as well as a lot employee argued me down that a Nissan Sentra was considered a “mid-sized car,” despite the fact that it was parked in the compact car parking spot. When we asked if we could change the car because the car that they gave us was just way too small, Christopher told us that it would be a great idea to just take the car. So not only did we have to rent this tiny car for a week, I paid for a much smaller vehicle & did not get what I reserved. Please do not waste your time. Enterprise has much more options with better customer service.

The car was fine, but on returning it I was informed that I would have to pay $20 more than I was quoted because I didn't have a receipt for gas. We drove the car 24 miles, so I expected to pay $8 for gas. I do not appreciate having a foolishly high, unexpected charge slapped on. I'm a gold member at Hertz and do not expect such poor treatment.
Very bad customer service it took me over 45 minutes to speak to someone after than they let me wait for an hour till I got my car for double the price what was on my reservation with 100 reasons why they ask more
You can do it online and just go pick up your car.You don't need taxi from the terminal directly to the place via the air train...it's easy when you schedule in advance if you're not doing it online sometimes it's crowded but the customer service is amazing.

Arrived after 1 AM so there was no waiting but huge improvement in the asthetics and the new ability to choose your own car similar to National is very convenient.
It will not be the cheapest, but its service and how easy it is to rent a vehicle makes a difference.

Two hours on line, another hour waiting on a actual car. Two cashiers at 0830 with over 15 ppl waiting for a rentals which makes not since to me. Customers on the line waiting and others waiting actual rentals. This place is great six computers and two reps one being supervisor by a guy when approached by another customer he refused to talk to. Customer are screaming open a another register. Never dealing with budget (JFK) again when u have customers waiting outside for a rental that they reserved more than two weeks ago and confirmed within 24 hours. Make it make since.
The front desk agent was absolutely disgusting and just not nice at all. We had to wait more than an hour. The lot attendant was spectacular, she was extremely helpful, apologetic, courteous and gave me an accidental upgrade, because the full size I reserved was not available. The gas tank was a little more than half full, so she waived the full gas return and once the vehicle is returned it will cost me nothing for the 24 hour rental. God bless that pleasant young woman and I pray the front desk agent finds a position that better suits her attitude.
I made a reservation week before my trip. At the time to pick up the car, it wasn't ready and the reservation person was very rude and doesn't want to order a car from another location. The time I was waiting to arrange a car for my trip by others attended I recognize that the other guy just tries to find reasons to charge them. I don't think I reserve any car from them again. Beware
I reserved a specific car and when I got there I was given a smoked smelled car that didn't even matched the price I paid.
Good clean cars. Tire got a flat. Roadside assistance came but did not replace tire correctly. Difficult time getting a replacement car.
The policy must change for car rentals. If you take my money from my debit card automatically from my account why I'm not able to get the car with the same debit card. It's an inconvenience to get to the agency and then denied.
I booked a car via jet blue. The car company was Avis at Federal Circle. After a long wait I was told that I could not receive a car because I had a debit card and not a credit card. I then walked right next door to Hertz. The line was moving efficiently I was then helped by a wonderful front desk person who accepted my debit and promptly got me a car; the lot support staff wonderful and professional. Car had was in immaculate condition. The day was 6/10/2021
I am a gold card member. I reserved a car several weeks in advance. When I arrived, the car was not posted so I had to go into the rental area to get my car. Car was a Camry. Great car, can't complain about it. Next day, the check engine light came on. Had to return car to Hertz. Hertz did give us a new car. It took about 45 minutes, but no new Camry; we were given a Chrysler 200. This is not a car anyone who is short or a senior citizen wants to drive. Very poor sight lines, very hard to get in and out of, if you are a passenger you will not be able to see well since the seats are so low, and shifting was strange.There was a dial on the center console that you turned to shift. Hertz needs to do a better job when it selects rental cars to make sure that the cars are comfortable, easy to get in and out of, good sightlines, and easy to understand controls. Hertz rental agents were friendly and competent, so at least that was reasonable.
I was at Hertz yesterday, we had to cancel our reservation and place another reservation and during that time I had lost my wallet I'm sure its either inside the hertz or the surrounding outside but the girls said that they didn't see anything and that the general manager is not available to look at the cameras. I have been trying to contact them today to speak to the manager but no answer. Please give me a valid number and extension. The girls didn't seem to care about me losing my wallet and didn't even bother looking for it!!!
Federal circle is not a good place to rent! Even though I had a reservation and all paperwork, the lady on the counter refused to let me rent a car! Never again Hertz!

Last time I rented a car in Hertz in JFK airport I forgot my personal bag inside the car , I came back literally one hour later (this what it takes to turn around Uber to drive back) they told me someone else already rented car and they didn’t find anything. I had 700$ cash, EarPods , my medicine and cards inside, but they didn’t even try to help or refund something. They don’t clean and check cars before rent. Very big mistake

Car selection was slim, location was okay, car cleanliness was subpar, staff was limited. The young lady helping us wasn't given time to really help us adequately. She was being pulled into many different directions, and had to pull away from giving us good customer service.

The staff there is rude and unhelpful. You can not talk to them. Stay away from Joseph. He has his own set of rules that is nothing related to the Hertz Policy. Cars that can be rented in any other Hertz location can not be rented in JFK because of Josephs hangups. Completely unacceptable.

Not only was she rude, she had an attitude problem and wasn’t helpful to us when we told her our rental car stopped on us and we came to return it for another car. She tried to talk us into getting a compact car when we paid for a midsize car. Had to call the manager real quick because she was NOT suitable to help any customers. Be aware of PATRICIA!!
Really ridiculous, had to wait over an hour for a car even with a reservation. This location has been overbooking cars and there were none available when I arrived. Hertz is usually pretty good, but this was pretty ridiculous, many people ahead of me gave up and went to other car rental agencies next door.

Booked through a third party since the rate was considerably less. Semi-quick service since I waited about 15 minutes to get to the customer service counter. Unfortunately, couldn’t add my hertz gold rewards to the reservation since it was done through a third party (which is why the 1 star was deducted). Waited about 20 minutes for my car (mid size car booked). I was told to go out and retrieve the vehicle from Zone 1. Upon getting to Zone 1, waited around for another 15 minutes before being told I’d need to go back and wait for a car to be brought around since there were none available right then and there. Saw a manager who upgraded me to a pickup truck for my midsize rate and I was off. Kudos to the manager for the great customer service and upgrade. Just prepare to wait a bit as staff is short handed.

The Hertz experience is by far the best. Being a Gold Memeber is hands down the best perk in the rental car industry. Especially since we prepay, we just arrive and drive. No lines; it is completely amazing. My wife and I arrived at the rental lot and within 2 mins on the road to our destination. Thank you Hertz

The lady at the counter was super nice and helpful when I picked up my reservation. I was given a brand new SUV that only had 400 miles on it and the pricing was very reasonable. When I returned the car, the agent took pity on my soul (since I was traveling with two kids) and drove me directly to the airport terminal in the car I was returning so I didn't have to take the air train. It was a great experience with great customer service.

They have this really friendly attitude toward customers and they help out in any way possible ways they can. Asking them about informations is the best thing you can do. Also, their price is way cheaper than any other rentals for underage ones. If you are a AAA member, your fee for underage will be waived and you will get some extra discounts. Also, when you purchase the car, they have varieties of options to choose from to insure the rental day. If anything happens, you walk away. Thanks.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! Don't go here "Daisy" had a nasty attitude , didn't seem like she had much customer service. There was a lot of people just waiting outside for a very long time for a car. You had to wait awhile in line then, when you finally get to the counter you have a nasty representative ...then you have to wait forever for a car! Do better please because this was horrible. Don't come here unless it's your last resort and if it is be prepared to go through hell.
The car rental here was painless. However, just make sure to leave yourself enough time to get from the rental car terminal to the airport. I think there's been some work on the AirTrains lately (as of November 2019), and it seems like they aren't running as many. It took probably took almost half an hour to get to Terminal 7 after a ~10 minute wait.
Fast service and really nice people
I had an absolutely wonderful experience, and I want specifically mention Daisy at the counter who really helped me out. I had booked a car through a third party website, it was supposed to be a standard car, but when I reached the counter, I discovered that the reservation was for a pickup truck! I was traveling with family and had loads of luggage, also was planning to drive over 1.5k miles, so the truck wasn't a good option. At first, Daisy offered me an upgrade for 20 bucks a day, but when I told her that I was a student and of very limited means, she was able to get me a good car at the same rate!! It was honestly life saving, I did not have the budget to either upgrade or to afford the fuel for a truck! Again, shout out to Daisy for awesome customer service. Please have this reach her if any employees from the JFK office end up reading this.

Find Christopher if you need to add additional driver. When I rented the car, the lady there said that i need to be over 20 to add myself as a driver although we were just renting fullsize. Later it turned to be i just have to be over 18, thanks to Chris.
If you're wondering why is this review so long, it's because I had lots of time to write it while I continue to wait for my rental. Now at minute 115. May be just due to COVID layoffs, but this place seemed to only have about 3 employees running the whole operations and too few cars. Showed up with a reservation at 9:00, got through the line by 9:10, and was told I could be waiting up to 2 hours for a car. Currently sitting at 115 minutes waiting, and I see that there are multiple people still ahead of me in line. Cars are pulling up about every 12-15 minutes. The renter's agreement is full of language punishing renters for being any amount of time late, but of course there's no accountability for when they make customers wait 2 hours just to get a car to fulfill their end of the bargain. No discussions of compensation has been had. And again, may just be a COVID thing, but the facility itself has no chairs, no couch, no Wifi, no outlets, no nothing. The set-up implies that this should be a quick experience, but they do nothing to recognize that they are just not providing the service they promise and to which they are contractually obligated to provide. Imagine making a reservation a month ahead of time for 9PM and there not being a car until 11PM and then no apology, compensation, or discount. And those two hours are not trivial. As I get closer to 11PM, my wakefulness and alertness decrease. I'm happy to drive in a brand new city around 9PM, but at 11PM, closer to my usual sleep schedule, I'm sleepier, and more likely to get into an accident. Therefore, my life and others are put at risk. The one nice part is that the employees have been very nice, but they are simply being put in a bad spot by the management and company leaving them with far too few resources. Would not recommend going here unless the management can hire more people or get more cars because it's frankly an unacceptable option if you are looking for an experience that respects your time or their own business.
Left a piece of luggage in car, it had my prescriptions in it, went back and found it, awesome.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this Hertz location. Within 1 hour of driving our rental vehicle, the vehicle overheated and began giving warning lights. We pulled over, opened the hood, and found that the car did not have coolant (see pics). Hertz JFK doesn't provide a phone number for their specific location, just an automated general customer service line, so no help from the local agency. I called Hertz emergency roadside assistance and it's also an automated message that says they will TEXT me for help. So I begin texting a service person and they said someone from Hertz will call me to help. Over 2 hours later and we NEVER received the call. Hertz left us abandoned so we took the car to a shop and had it fixed ourselves, then took it back to JFK to return the unmaintained vehicle. Hertz did provide a replacement, but not until after our day was wasted with no help from Hertz. Just know you may be on your own if their vehicle has issues and they will not help you a reasonable time, or may not call you at all like they did with us. When I complained to Hertz managers Bob Brighton said there was no way to reimburse me for my reservation because I booked through a third party. I later find that wasn't true - all they need to do is tell the third party to give the refund. They refuse to do so. Think twice if you are traveling with your family. Don't risk getting cars that aren't checked for basic maintenance like coolant. In my case Hertz did not come to our aid.
Good experience. It didn't take long to get our car and it was quick to return it. The car was in immaculate condition. Very clean. No issues with Insurance coverage when we needed it. Definitely going to use these guys next time!

I checked out a car in the checkout area only to be sent back at the exit for an expired registration on that vehicle. It was freezing ???? cold.
I DO NOT do reviews on rental car services, as they usually run business as usual (or-lack-thereof). But, oddly enough ‘Karen’ at this specific location was beyond helpful, courteous, and made this BAU stop through Hertz oddly amazing. This story is not over... To top the above off, Janis at the check-out gate was quite possibly even happier to see us than Karen....Really? Train all your employees this way, and you will have minimal complaints... Thanks!

This location NEVER assigns vehicles ahead of arrival to gold members - staff is angry and miserable - consistently poor service over the past 2 years... average wait time is 30-40m to pick up a car you book and pay in advanced. Per the response below - I ALREADY HAVE CONTACTED LOCAL MANAGEMENT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST 2-3 YEARS THEY DO NOT CARE - AND I QUESTION WEATHER THEY ACTUALLY EXIST!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE TO BOOK WITH AVIS OR NATIONAL BOTH OFFER FAR SUPERIOR SERVICE! I WISH I COULD LEAVE A NEGATIVE STAR REVIEW. Took a long time to get my car here as both agents didn’t know what to do when I booked with a voucher. Even though they were nice and friendly they had to call their manager constantly for help. Why wasn’t the manager doing his job and running the office? So eventually my order was placed with a severely limited amount of choices for my car. I am fairly disappointed with my car being dirty and a base model. This seems to be a trend i am running into with hertz all across the world. We know make an effort to not use hertz since it’s constantly difficult.
My family and I arrived at JFK Hertz last week and the customer service was outstanding. They walked me through the reservation, offered me an upgraded vehicle, and we were very happy with the vehicle. The vehicle was a 2016 SUV and very clean. The return of the vehicle was efficient and fast. We will use Hertz again.
Honestly screw this place but Ms. Karen was phenomenal and helped me a lot even though I couldn't get my rental that I reserved due to they don't accept debit.

Getting to the budget car rental from the airport was an easy process. If you have multiple is best to get a cart or have someone wait at the airport . Check in was easy and fast ... no one in line .

I do like hurts but there JFK and LaGuardia locations have to be the slowest locations for a rental car company I've ever been at. I'm a gold member should be able to walk in and walk out the door without ever stopping to talk to his soul. There's always a line as they don't have many agents working especially at night after 6 p.m. . So having to wait up to 30 minutes to pick up a car that's prepaid and they have every bit of information of yours is ridiculous
Prices to rent a car for a weekend have surely gone up. Soon, everyone is going to elect to buy a car and drive or, to "Uber it" whenever, and wherever, they travel bc it is really getting to be too expensive. I guess everything enjoyable will be left to only the rich and those who are willing to pay the high costs. I know that I will be doing less renting than I used to.

"I'm a PRESDENT CIRCLE" member and I needed to exchange my minivan because it had technical issues, and I celled road side assistance and they sent me to jfk airport to exchange my vehicle and they told me that in jfk lot they have about minivans large suv's etc. and when i got to jfk airport i met the night manager "Abdo" first he told me we don't have any think our fleet is empty and when i called road side assistance they tolled me that because I'm a president circle member I'm first priority on every vehicle in the lot so he gave me a 15 passenger van. WHAT I DONT NEED A 15 PASS VAN WERE WILL PARK THE VAN AND THE GAS IS VERY EXPENSIVE what was not sanitized for covid and dirty all over no washer fluid and cruise control does not work and etc. a broken old van

Hertz is wonderful and provide good option for car for family and individuals. They have car for your needs. Recently they changed their schedule from covid perspective.
We rented with Hertz for the first time at Newark a week before Thanksgiving. We typically go with National but Hertz had the better rate if we pre-paid but even with covid, they aren't doing full refunds so we waited until a day before the trip to book prepaid. I have President's Circle with Hertz even though I don't frequently rent with them. The car selection was mediocre at best. Five star had full size cars, impalas, and eco sports. President's Circle has impalas, altimas and Rogue's. While they're definitely upgrades over the mid-size car I reserved, it just wasn't consistent with what's offered in the Executive Aisle at National. We got pretty lucky since I checked the Gold area and found a Jeep Wrangler which we took instead of anything in the President's Circle or Five Star areas
They booked a car for my friend using his personal information, but when we came there they told us that he isn’t able to to drive. We where disappointed

At Hertz JFK very often you are asked to complete an online survey - for which you are given a ride to the terminal - no problem glad to do it. Hertz at JFK does a great job being prepared for your arrival (good service) love it ....let me say that Rose is a wonderful lady who drives you back to the terminal, she's gracious and so much fun to talk to - and Janis at the gate when you drive out - she's always welcoming, funny and helpful 2 of my faves at the JFK location. Thanks Hertz JFK - great job!!!

Good vehicle, Hertz does a good job but the return at Newark airport was a mess. No one to check in the vehicle. Found someone who directed me to write my mileage down and turn it in at the exit. A young lady at the exit accepted this (no receipt available) and directed a group of us to the Newark Airport Air Train to the terminal. The Air Train, adjacent to the Hertz office was not operational. Someone from AVIS told us we would all have to wait for a bus. Waited a few minutes, at the designated Bus Stop location and a HERTZ bus arrived but parked about a block a way. Finally we all migrated to the bus rather than the bus driver pulling up to us. As I was loading my bags the doors closed and he began to pull away, with half my luggage all ready on board. Luckily another Hertz rep was able to have him stop. The bus then proceeded to stop at "other" rental counters and terminals. Lucky to make my flight. Nice work Hertz !
Hertz at the airport was great. There was no line to return the car and there were a few employees there to help return the car and give directions of where to go. It was a very easy quick process. I had to change something on my bill and needed to go inside for that, but it was also very easy and quick. They were very helpful and got me through the process very quickly.
I guess I got lucky, seeing that other people really had a horrible experience. My experience was amazing! I booked the American Muscle Car category. Got to the rental office, no one in line!! was greeted by the employee and was off to my car in less than 5 minutes. The car was amazing, a brand new 2019 Camaro SS in RED! The car was in great condition and had no trouble returning the car either. Overall very satisfied. I've had some horrible experiences with Avis, which is right next to Hertz, so I'm glad I chose Hertz this time! Will def. return for my next rental.
I pre-paid for a two week rental on a full-size car. I arrived at the rental car Center I noticed my name was not on the board for gold members. I was told I had to wait in line which I did 30 minutes. They took me to the garage where there was another group of people waiting for cars. The only car available was a compact car. Or I had to wait behind everybody else. I took it and called Hertz and was told nothing could be done till we return the car. Upon returning it we were told even by a supervisor that we were not entitled to any refund or a voucher for a future upgrade. Hertz used to be number one they’re not even number two. They’re completely disorganized… Customer service is in the toilet. DO NOT USE HERTZ!!!!!

I would like to thank Karen and the Manager Julissa for their amazing customer service skills. They went beyond their duties to make sure I was able to get a rental. This was a very emotional weekend for me because I was dropping my nephew away to college. I made a reservation around 1pm for 6pm. I came in and there weren’t any cars available. Karen told me if I didn’t mind waiting a bit she could see what she can do for me. The next thing I know after a short wait I was able to rent a car! I was overjoyed because these 2 women showed such humility towards me! On top of that they remembered me when I came back! This experience was held with such professionalism. Even faced with a dilemma these ladies reassured me and got the job done! Thank you! ❤️❤️
The staff was exceptional, the front desk handled my rental quickly and had such a great smile and complimented me and had conversation while dispatching me a car. The car was more clean than the last 4 I've had from budget which I think will make me switch. The return was simple. Pull in give your miles and gas status and head out!
I need to extend my rental car. The website and app tell me I need to return the car or contact a representative. I have called this location upwards of 20 times at various points in the day for the last 24 hours and cannot get anyone on the phone. The customer service is a joke.
Staff is amazing
When I returned the car, Hertz employee. Her name was 'Rose'. she drove me from the Hertz office to the airport terminal. I dropped my cell phone into the passenger seat on the way to the terminal. Rose told me that it would be nice to pick up when I arrived at the terminal, but I forgot to find my cell phone at the terminal. I returned to my home country due to flight departure time and applied for lost and found when I got back, but I could not find my cell phone so far. I can not believe they have not found my cell phone. This obviously believes they have stripped my goods. It is really disappointing situation .I would like to ask an employee, Rose. Even now, I hope Hertz will give me the employee's contact information.

So car rental companies usually aren’t great, but this branch is great! I’ve rented over 15 times this year with them, they have their cars cleaned properly, good selection with ultimate choice and using the gold member service, I never queue up. Occasionally they have even upgraded me for free. Clearly the team here take pride in their work which is often hard to find!
I'm going to be honest here. Hertz really did alot of medical providers a huge solid by giving us a vehicle for free for a month. It made my life much safer knowing that on the way to work I was reducing my risk of exposure on public transportation, and when I got to go home I was able to do so safely and not expose the public to any COVID germs I may have been carrying. I even extended my rental for several weeks (that I paid for) and had a decent rate. So thank you, Hertz, I really appreciate what you did for me and for some of my colleagues who were also lucky enough to get one of your car loans. It made my life so much easier and safer this past month and a half.
I recently rented a car through HERTZ and DERRICK is one of the BEST employees i have ever met! I was came in with a problem and he solved it! He was very professional and explained everything he was doing in detail. I would now recommend Hertz to my friends and family because of my awesome encounter with him. I'd give ZERO STARS if I can. Date: 8/18/20 8:30pm. Christopher was the clerk very rude and disrespectful towards people who couldn't speak English properly. Very rude he's so lucky I don't wanna get arrested. I had a reservation for a prestigious luxury car. When I get there he's giving me a hard time and demanding 2 I.D.'d and 2 CC what the hell is this? I just returned a car I rented for 62 days I spent over 12k$ and your gonna treat me like a peasant? On Friday all the flights that we’re heading out of JFK were canceled because of all the rain that was coming in on Saturday morning, I need to get to Virginia in emergency and they had no rental cars in the websites of any of the rental companies I searched. And chances of walk into the rental car company and I explain to this lovely woman what my situation was, she got into a car quick and I was on my way to my version. This level of customer service is on Burton’s games and I really appreciate him going about beyond to get me where I had to go.

Unhelpful. I went there after hours thinking I would be able to speak to someone who could resolve my issue and everyone was clueless to what to do. Worst experience I ended up sleeping at the hertz until the next morning
Car was ready before pick up time. Drop off was easy and fast. Great car. Good deal. Staff were very friendly. The door on the driver seat had a sticker confirming that the car was thoroughly cleaned which made me feel safe in the middle of a pandemic. The office was clean, too. They removed the seating area so that people could be 6 feet apart. Absolutely loved it. Great experience! I will do it again with no regrets ????

We arrive to pick up our car to find only one counterperson here there's a line of 15 people waiting to pick up their cars you would think that if people made reservations ahead of time which all of these people did, they would have more than one counter person to handle it. Very very dissatisfied customer will probably not rent from Hertz again there's many more fish in the sea
I have dealt with Hertz and the JFK Location for years they are the best. What you book online is what you get no hidden fees or deception. I especially love the new policy "pick your vehicle and drive". The managers are great and the staff is extremely helpful. I've rented from other Rental car companies but Hertz is truly a pioneer in the industry and is leading the game. They strive to put the customers first and I appreciate that. They are my go to Company "loyal customer " here.
Apparently the only wait time longer than a post office is a Hertz rental. I'm literally writing this review as I'm standing in line, in the same position I have been standing for the last 45 minutes (and counting). There is...1 person working here? Thank god I already booked the car, if I had to book it now I'd probably be here for 2 hours. Hopefully I get this car before my next birthday. I could likely walk out the door to the Enterprise two feet away and get a car in 5 minutes.

Horrible experience renting the car. We arrived at JFK airport at 23:00h and didn´t get our car until 2:00 am. More than 2 hours waiting in line. Just two representatives at the desks and really really slow. Can´t recommend their services.
I liked picking up the car at JFK Airport 24 hours. It may be a little bit tricky getting in and out of there, but hey, if you want the unlimited miles, it only makes sense. My two problem I had, they are not big enough to make me NOT want to go to Hertz, are: A - the outdoor attendants were too short -handed to be able to help me find and go over the special features of the car I rented.

The waiting time was way too long ...more than an hr. I booked a Dodge ram 1500 or similar pick up truck. I got Toyota Tacoma. That is much smaller than a Dodge Ram. Then we returned the truck at10pm but I was charge for an extra day. The receipt showed we dropped off at 2am. Check your cameras or gps in car and you will see the car was returned at 10pm. The fuel was checked at the return at 10pm. It's so ridiculous!

Slow service. Glacial actually. We didn't have a reservation so we needed to go through the full process. That part is always slow. The show part was there were two people at the counter and only 2 people in front of us. It still took almost 30 minutes to get a car. Once we had a car, the check out to get to the highway was just as glacial. Despite only 2 people having left before us, there were 3 cars in front of us to leave. This took another 10 minutes to get through. The car was in excellent shape, ran well and was comfortable enough. If you have no better option, this Hertz location will work. Serviceable but slow.

Lady working there overnight very unprofessional and unpleasant. Refused to answer a question from 20 yards away because I didn't have a mask on. Had a prepaid reservation, counter clerk created new reservation, gave me nothing of what I asked and everything that I didn't want, ended up paying double for my reservation

If I could leave negative stars I would. Worst customer service. Charges you if you need to speak to a human. Confusing and misleading processes to check in. They will nickel and dime you as much as possible. Go across the street to enterprise. Even if it costs a little more, your mental health will be better for it.

Was given a dirty unsafe vehicle. Reserved a cat for Tuesday at 8:00pm, wasn't given a car until almost midnight (3hours 48minutes) as I along with others had to wait until cars were returned. Finally got a vehicle a (SUV) which was all they had(no complaints about the upgrade, which is why they got a stars). Car was dirty with someone dirty mask and tissue on the side of the drivers seat. Then on the second day of rental it started raining which is when I found out the wipers are broken. It just moved some water so visiblity was horrible. Extremely dangerous while driving on the expressway in NY. The agents were very helpful and nice ( the reason for the 2nd star)

Arrived at JFK hired a luxury car (BMW 530)drove 9.4 miles when the computer came on and said low tire pressure. When you call the call centre they cannot help you. Drove the car as it had run flat tires to the closest gas station found the problem went back to Hertz was given another car but because of what we experienced I decided to check the car out . Found the same issue with this car. THE STAFF MADE IT SEEM THOUGH IT WAS MY FAULT. AND WANTED ME TO PAY FOR the damage. When in fact it is simply Badly managed.
I rented car in Hertz, the staff Omar Greeter and Noemi really helped me a lot, they did the best with what they can offer max to help me on my car selection, which makes my trip easier and much comfortable. I really enjoy their service. Strongly recommended, it’s a very friendly site.

Hertz JFK is the worst Hertz I have ever utilized. I am a Presidents Circle member. I have been using the same credit card numbers since I've started. Flew in from Norfolk to JFK as a final destination. Credit card was throwing an error and could not be charged. (I did not have any physical cards on me as I use apple pay or cash for everything). The one physical card I use is my debit card. They refused to rent me a car for pickup @ JFK and Return in Medford NY. The refused to accept my debit card (which mind you as 100x more available funds then any of my credit cards) without a RETURN FLIGHT TICKET! I LIVE IN NY. I WAS PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF SAME DAY AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION. Instead of offering assistance, the manager was no where to be found the employee gatekeeper kept running to the back to try and talk to her to which he told me "she refused to make any exceptions". To be honest it was more like "i couldnt find her so I'm just telling you no. So instead I had to take 3 different ubers to 3 different locations totaling me $467.33 instead of the $56.78 this rental was going to cost. Thanks alot hertz, no wonder you went bankrupt.
Got to this location and the vehicle I had held was not available, I was immediately upgraded to the next class of vehicle at no additional charge. It was easy in and easy out on this reservation. Always good to have a smooth transition when traveling without any drama.
MAJOR RIP OFF BEWARE!!! Do yourself a favor and read your receipt very very carefully before signing anything. You will come out paying double what your prior rental agreement was and after calling customer service they told me they could not do anything about it. As I was on the phone with the agent I could here in the back ground another caller with the same problem and the agent telling them the same thing. I book with Hertz when I am in Europe all the time and I will never use them again but because of this scam I will never use them again. Shame on you Hertz.

Worst experience ever with these guys. They canceled my prepaid booking for a ford because they machine couldn’t swipe mu card. And when i asked them to book me again using another card they told me the same price is not available anymore and would be charging me 900$ for the same car instead of 200$. I was without car in freezing new york at 1 in the morning. Never gonna use them again and still waiting for refund.20th January.

Great selection of cars, excellent staff, very quick rental transaction. During the return, I was greeted by two ladies; One was handling the return the other one was very nice asking about rental experience, trip, etc. At the end she insisted in driving us to the terminal in the same vehicle I returned. Our bags were still in the trunk. We arrived at the terminal without a big walking and no AirTrain. We are extremely satisfied with our experience with Hertz.

I came to New York to assist in the virus problem. I’m a nurse and was given a discounted rate, however, after asking to extend it jumped to over double the price. It’s more frustrating finding out my colleagues received compensated cars for coming. I sent an email to corporate asking to explain the hump in price, but no answer ever came. Two stars because the car I used was nice.
Amreta refused to help me because she was “not in the right state of mind” and sat down as she told another rep to help me. Terrible service.
Car scheduled and payed for rental month in advance SUV for camping purposes. At the time we went to pick up the car they said they are sorry but the car we already paid for is not available and nothing similar. We ended up getting a SEDAN for a camping trip. Try to fit everything in a sedan model when you go camping. To make everything even "better" when returning the car we ended up parking 17 minutes later than the time mentioned in the contract. Previously Hertz employee said that we need to return car on the date and time established in the contract but not later than 3h after mentioned time in order to avoid extra charges. They charged $56 extra for the 17 minutes. Considering all the mess up they did not keep their word regarding anything and on top everything costumer service employee was very rude. Hertz was using our money, not providing the required services and even charging extra. Think twice before using their services.
we applied very late, due to the great demand for vehicles for Thanksgiving. Shay from Hertz Israel worked really hard to find us the best solution. The service went smoothly, the car was in an excellent condition, and we really appreciate your kindness and professionalism. BRAVO AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Poor clerk had a line of 20 people. It is like this every Friday at this location. Nice clerk, but there should have been 2 or 3 of her, I think I wasted half an hour waiting in this line. Since Hertz knows who makes reservations, they are doing this on purpose. Lousy planning by whomver runs this shop.
I just rented a car for the day from Hertz located at NYC’s JFK International Airport at Federal Circle. Their team is so lovely, welcoming and incredibly helpful. One of their inspectors, Andre, went above and beyond to make sure I was totally comfortable with my rental and even lent me his car adapter for my iPhone so I could sync my phone with Google Maps and Apple Play. Without his help, my experience driving to Montclair, NJ would have been a disaster. It was a raining day and I wasn’t familiar with this drive. I would highly recommend renting through Hertz. Their team hands down will make your rental experience seamless and enjoyable:)

First time renting from hertz and it was such a pleasant one compare to my last experience with Avis! Customer Service was respectable, pleasant and help! Felt like I got more bang for my buck for renting from them! I’ll highly recommend them to anyone else!
Very unhappy about what happened today. My bracelet fell off my hand upon returning my rental car. I forgot to grab it off the floor of the car when I got out the car. When i remembered approximately five minutes after exiting the vehicle and it was already gone. No where to be found. The only people or persons that had access to the car were HEARTZ employees. I'm so upset. It was a very sentimental bracelet. I spoke with a manager by the name of Avery and he mentioned that there wasn't anything he could do about it. It actually felt like he didn't even care. It's bad when employees are stealing from the clients.

I've been a regular customer of Hertz for years and always thought it was one of the best companies to rent cars from, but my most recent experience was very disappointing. When I got to my car I noticed right away that it was dirty on the inside, there we crumbs on the seat, it was dusty, but the worst part was that there was something spilled on the stirring and it dripped down to the driver's seat leaving stains on both. At first I tried to make do with what I got and set everything up so I could be on my merry way, but with each passing minute I was getting more disgusted with it so I went to the front desk and told the sweet lady there that I needed a new car. She informed me that it was the last SUV available and since I was planning to travel with 6 members of my family I couldn't downgrade. She suggested that the car can be re-cleaned if I'd like and I agreed and decided to wait. Fast forward around 25 minutes and my car is pulled up to the front door and I'm told it's ready to go. It's looks shiny clean on the outside, but when I get inside everywhere I touch is wet. Someone simply just sprayed the entire front of the car and never even wiped it off. Once everything dried up all the stains were still there. This is not something that anyone would expect from Hertz as they have a reputation to live up to.
HORRIBLE!!!! We arrived JFK yesterday. The staff tried to trick us to give us a compact instead of the midsize car we requested. Then I pointed out and he said "oh, we can give you this (midsize) one". And guess what? It's a car with dead battery!!! It threw us, including a 4yo and 6yo late evening after we finished eating. Tried to call the emergency road assistance. NO ANSWER!! Eventually after an hour, found some nice local people who have jumpstart to help us. This morning, we cannot start the car again from hotel. AGAIN, cannot reach emergency road assistance. At the moment, still on hold of the road assistance call... What a joke!
Three weeks ago We have returned the car without any remarks regarding the cars condition. After few days they have charged us with additional 250$ for "Keys/Parts". Two weeks after our complain they decided to return the fee but instead of returning the fee they have charged us with additional 250$... We are still waiting for resolving our issue. This is unacceptable practice for a company with such a reputation. I rent a lot in a various of different rentals and such negligence is quite inexcusable.

Absolute shocking service today. Waited an hr and a half to be processed at front desk. Onlu to wait another half hr to recieve a car. Not a single staff member wanted to take responsibility of anything and could hardly look you in the eye let alone provide anybody with clear or thorough instructions. So disappointed in how unprofessional the service was.
First time using Hertz and it sucks. Arrived and waited 20 mins to get a car assigned only to sit longer waiting for cars to get cleaned??? Sure not like the commercial promising no wait! Too bad was a great brand for a long time, see why they are fighting bankruptcy now. Also show JD Power awards are for hire.
My car rental experience with Hertz was smooth. I booked the rental online via their website and picked up the car after arriving at JFK. Their location is conveniently located just under the Air Train stop. It was snowing heavily but I did not have to step outdoors to get the car. Because I signed up for Hertz rewards plus, they had a csr reserved and ready for me. I drove off quickly with my rental without issues. I was happy with the car I received. I booked a standard SUV and they gave me a Ford Edge with 16k miles. The car was cleaned and sealed due to Covid, which I appreciated. During my return the gas door was frozen stuck and I could not refuel. So I returned the car with 75% gas in the tank. Once I explained that to the person at the counter, he waived the gas charge and checked me out quickly so I could catch my flight. Overall excellent service was received from Hertz and I will book again with them! Highly recommend...
DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS LOUSY COMPANY! The front desk employees are not educated enough to be in the customer industry! This is a reflection on the management and the lack of proper training. These people give hurtz a bad name. They are rude and don’t care about you at all! They need to be FIRED! This company is all about making as much money as they can no helping thier customers! GIVE YOUR MONEY TO ANOTHER COMPANY THEY ARE ALL BETTER RHAN HERTZ !
The agent was very nice even though they had a never ending line of people to help and only two agents working the desk. The rate for the Chevy Suburban was good. The truck was clean and new and drove great. The drop off took only three minutes. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was the thirty minute wait on line to pick up the truck.
I've never waited so long in my life to rent a car. From when I arrived to when I finally drove off in a rental was a full 85 minutes. So, take that into account if you're planning to book from here.
I choose Hertz through my companies discount program. Plus I prefer renting from JFK than local vendors. Rental processes was fine. I would recommend more reps. at the counter.
After trying to extended a rental we had for 4 days we were told the car was due in for registration but the stickers on the car were all 2020 stickers. Got to the front desk and asked the customer service rep why were we unable to extend the car she says the reservation has ended, we rent a car almost every month from Hertz and other rental companies and all we had to do was pay the difference for the extension. Asked her how much it was to extend for another night, she quoted us and I told her no thank you she comes with an attitude and tone "where is the car and where are the keys for the car" which was already in the return parking lit and was scanned in, as if we were going to steal the car. Not really sure if this is how these people are trained to speak to people or she was having a bad but these people need to learn how to respect customers and be careful of how they address paying customers. Never again renting from this location. If I could give zero stars I would.

Yeah, don't go to Hertz if you need to be anywhere at a particular time. I've rented from here a few times and it never takes less than 90 minutes to get on the road. Definitely not worth the money, time, or stress.

Currently been waiting for over an hour to get the car I reserved weeks in advance. There are people that are still waiting for the car they reserved for more than 2 hours. I have never experienced such bad quality of service from a car rental company. When I have rented from Enterprise or Sixt it has taken less than 10 minutes for me to get my car. Will definitely not rent a car from Hertz again.

Infinite slow lines.
If I could give zero stars I would. We flew into JFK at 1:30am after our flight being delayed. There was no one at the customer service center for 20 minutes. My husband had to walk to the security gate to find a Hertz employee and even after that we were not helped until another 15 minutes after. Once the representative finally arrives she stated our vehicle reservation was given away and that they had no other vehicles ready. My husband and I were traveling with my 5yo and 2yo children who were having a meltdown and it is now 2:05am. The representative said we needed to wait outside for our vehicle, which was at a different location, to be cleaned. It took an additional hour before my husband spoke with the representative again and asked about a vehicle already available in the lot. The representative from Hertz stated that since we used our military discount we were not eligible to have that car because it was more expensive. The Hertz representative then called her manager who was at a different location, who stated she should give the car to us and also provide us with the free gas fill up at drop off. We finally left after 3am. The car was clean and accommodated all of us comfortably. Thank you manager for helping resolve the situation.
Absolutely terrible customer service. Arrived to switch a problematic car, was directly told by a rep "You see the lot is empty, right? And it's not gonna get any better!" And my only glimpse of the manager was when she was running into another car screaming "NO I HAVE NO CARS" as her window rolled up and she sped off, leaving me to figure everything else out for myself. Again, absolutely terrible service. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Terrible Customer Service over the phone one representative saids one thing that everything is fine thats why i call before arriving to make sure and in person they say another (no sorry we can't i don't know why they told you that over phone) and instead of keeping a customer they do not manage to find a way to help you out at all. My trip to the state with my family was already stressfull with our flight being delayed 2 times and when we arrived to JFK 3am to pick the car up even worst we were not able to get the car which they had already charged for it since i reserved it 2 weeks before because prove of payment had to be under the same name who was picking car up but when the reservation was done they did not care to charge it with a different name... The owner of the card and I who was picking car up were both present and she still did not do anything to give us the car seeing our kids tired and super cold that day. So right there at that moment i called third party where i reserved with to use Hertz and i explained the situation and third party company kindly made the refund that was already charged when at first i was told i could not get a refund either. After got refund we just left and get a cab. Had better expectations for Hertz but never ever again..
The cars are really sub standard for today's standards. I was expecting better from Hertz since it's one of the traditional rental cars. They have to renew the fleet.
1- good car 2- wait for car was terrible ( over 20 min ) was told 5 min for staff to clean car. 3- reserved car more than 4 days, saw over 100 other cars for rental and still have to wait 4- hope I dont ever have to wait more than 10 minutes in the future 5- been a gold members for years, once in a while have a not so good service but Hertz does have good cars
The worst experience, do not rent from this lying company! They charged me for the car, and since I returned it fully fuled and undamaged they applied bogus toll charges on me for $121.66 !!! I came to NY to see my kids and did NOT even drive out of the neighborhood. This is a company of rude liars. Save your money and rent elsewhere!
From picking up the car to returning the car was a breeze. Took the AirTran from the terminal to hertz was very very easy and returning the car was easy as well. I traveled with my dad who is immobile and is always in a wheelchair, hertz went the extra mile to drop us off at their terminal!
I give this location 5 stars since my experience was just that. The only downside of my experience was that the rates are kind of expensive. Still the folks were all helpful and even extended my rental agreement after the fact. The gal at the counter was very helpful. The dude outside was kind of discourteous as he kind of insinuated that I intended to get a better car than the one stated in my car rental record. Still I don't give a hoot about him since there is nothing he can do about his personality traits. The vehicle was in good state altough the EZ-Pass was loose. Still I managed to work with it. Returning the car was easy and fast. No fuss or anything involved. I would definitely recommend this location as no surprises and stuff were involved. The folks were helpful and even gave me a ride to the terminal. How nice that was.
