Counter service is worst. Their attitude is like, even if you don't rent from here I am still going to be paid the same wages. Other car rental counters are very polite & willing to help customer always by answering their questions sometime more than once without showing frustration on their face. Also, During my rental period there was some sound coming from one of the rear tire but car was still running fine. When I called the counter which I was told to call in case I have questions, Some old man responded very rudely to me saying that I am not suppose call them and I should call road side assistance. I said I understood that I have to call road side assistance but do you know if I can stop by nearest Hertz office to exchange the car, but again like a computerized robot the old man was repeating the same line again and again and was really rude to me. The man from the counter was not willing to answer any of my questions. Finally I called the road side assistance and that lady was very nice and explained me all the options and suggested me if I am not comfortable in driving that car then she might arrange something to get the car checked up. Finally I came back in the same car without any problem and noise from the rear tire was almost gone after driving around 100 miles. Bottom line is, the service at the Hertz (Marriott Hotel, Halifax) counter is worst and they need to learn how to talk to their customers and how to be more helpful to them.
Worst service. Refused to come out and look at car when we took it and tried to blame us for a ding on a hubcap after the fact. Then they didn't check the car as returned and we got a letter a month later threatening legal action. How is this place in business?
We paid for a rental before getting to Halifax, and were not aware of the policy that N drivers in BC are not able to rent from this particular company. The N is basically a full license in BC with some restrictions. I have rented with many other companies before and drive for my job in the city daily, and legally in BC; driving that is far more technical and complicated than on the worst possible day most likely in Halifax, perhaps excluding when it is snowy. That aside, our entire trip had been planned around having a rental and included needing to get to a wedding the next morning in New Brunswick. The people at Hertz bearing the bad news regarding this policy seemed to have very little regard for our position, and swiftly ended our interaction as soon as they delivered the news that there is "nothing they can do". The news that a low-income couple's entire trip is about to have a giant wrench thrown into it after travelling across the country on their hard-earned penny was not taken into account. When I explained that I had already paid for the rental Hertz replied that we needed to contact the company "Priceline" that dealt the rental. We did so and "Priceline" claimed we needed to contact Hertz. Neither company now is helping us deal with this, and we are not certain we will receive a refund. Whatever the case, this Hertz's downtown Halifax location did not bother to check or look into this any further for us. We may be out $400 or so dollars now depending on what happens and their policy was not explicit. The people at Hertz in the downtown Halifax also felt the need to tell us that, the other companies who have rented to me in the past "shouldn't have". Thanks for your opinion, there, however if you are not aware of how licensing in BC works, perhaps you should refrain from sharing it altogether. This company was incredibly rude and incredibly dismissive. Thanks for making ZERO effort to help us get our money back or even put us in touch with the correct people to speak with, when interfacing with you in person, and most of all thanks for your repugnant attitude towards people losing their vacation money.
Do not rent from this company from Halifax airport. Had to change our reservation but they didn't have availability so we canceled July 15th. Was told 5 to 10 business days for refund. It is now August 9th and no refund. Have called 3 times and each time they tell us they have processed it and the previous one didn't go through. Asked to talk to supervisor was told we had to do so via website and would not forward our call. WE just want our $301 back!
Worst experience. We rented through a different site and booked a car at the airport location. They told us we didn’t have a reservation and had to go downtown. $65 can ride got us to another Hertz, wrong one and nobody at the counter. Got another cab to the Marriot location. Nobody at the counter. There’s a note saying they are down cleaning cars and to come find them. I will never book with hertz
I rent with Hertz for business quite often, but I would like to give special acknowledgment to Amy and Gaylynn. They helped me sort out a billing issue I had with Corporate, and in my opinion went above and beyond to help me out! Very satisfied client!
While it looks like the deals here are great, they charge extra for everything... Winter tires are for an extra $15/day! Showed up 45 mins early, they charged extra $6 (price for 1 hour, agreed to return it one hour earlier instead of paying the extra).
I don't understand this.. is this a business or some lazy half-wit operating out of their mom's basement? After specifically requesting ONLY a smaller sized or compact car, I ended up getting a full sized car. I explained that I needed a small sized car and they just stared at me in confusion until it got awkward and I took my absolutely inappropriately sized car and hoped for the best. (Not to hash out the details but I require a small car for safety reasons.) Attempting to get in touch with them after proved to be nearly impossible. I was able to reach these turkeys on the phone ONCE during my four day stay. At any location in HRM. The rest of the time, i was informed that nobody was available to take my call over and over. How can you claim to be a legitimate business but are unreachable during your hours of operation? And no courtesy shuttle out of downtown once you drop your car off. I realize that some locations don't offer this but with all the miserable service reviews this location (and most HRM locations) are getting, it might be a nice-to-have.
Still have N on license. Would not let me rent a car. Can rent one anywhere else. Just have not bothered to take N off as restrictions that come with do not effect me. Should have been told right away instead of being dropped off and no way home. Totally disrupted my plans. They were not even nice about it. Took my business to enterprise. No problems there.
Make sure everything they say is everything they put in the paper. The cars are good and well cared.
I "pre-paid" for gas, as they said it would be cheaper than filling up the tank before we return the car because the Hertz rate was $1.07 vs the $1.14 in town. When filling up during our road trip, I noticed that what I paid for the full tank was nearly $20 less than what the "pre-pay" price was. It cost only $47 to fill the Chevy Cruze. I hope that I can get a refund on this since I pre-paid Hertz $64 for gas up front?
Avoid this place. They can find plenty of ways to over charge you.
I was refused a rental, because i have an 'N' Classification on my license, which is fair, i understand the policy. My issue is the process of trying to get refunded for this. They told me to contact he website i booked through, who've told me to call Hertz. I've been rolled around, because, of course, the company wouldn't want to give me my money back.

I rent cars frequently from Enterprise and was "SURPRISED AT HOW BAD HERTZ WAS in comparison. " Right from the start I waited an incredibly long time for only one person in line in front of me. Then the representative just sent me out to find the car on my own... its in the back of a huge lot inside a hotel! Took me ages. No one went over damages with me and upon returning the car I got charged for damages I didn't put on and no matter how many times I call no one answers! Plus no one was there at the time of return and didnt tell me about their complicated key return process at the time of rental! ENTIRE PROCESS WITH HERTZ WAS AWFUL. THE NICE CARS ARE NOT WORTH THE TERRIBLE SERVICE. Ill stay with Enterprise forever!

I was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews but they provided an amazing service. We got a really nice Hyundai Sonata for a really good price. Enterprise was my go to place before but seems like after this trip, I will always be going to them. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
that location is really busy and uncomfortable. you should check car condition very detail. and customers service does not working properly.
Had a one day rental and they charged me for a week plus late fees. Had to get the hotel to pull the camera footage of me returning the vehicle before they’d issue a refund. Over a month later and they’ve still only issued a partial refund. There’s another rental agency across the street, don’t deal with these crooks.

Don’t rent any car from Hertz. Full of liars and overcharging!!! Since there was a snowstorm on the return day, I tried to call for enquires but no one response. so I return the car on the next day. And they charged me for 2 days late return and 1 extra day for rental which is totally nonsense. Moreover, as the advertisement saying that the gasoline price filled by hertz is competitive to local price, we choose to refuel by Hertz thought that it won’t be too much diff. But the fact is they charged for the price of gasoline is crazy like 3 times more compared to the market price! Calling to the customer service is another nightmare. The only thing customer rep could do is apologise saying it is my responsibility to return on time and to fill with full of gas. Once again, avoid this place unless you want to pay a lot more!!!

Bad experience. Was charged for an extra day while I reteurned the car at the same hour I took it , called back to discuss twice, no one never answers and they never called me back. Had to call and wait at Hertz customer service to get my refund.

Terrible customer service - avoid at all costs. This place is a scam!!! I rented a car for one day from this location - it’s only on Sundays from 8:00am - 2:00pm. We told the staff member we would be returning it at 6:00pm that day - no problem he said, it’s still the one day charge as long as you bring it back same day. Sure enough receive the bill the next day and was charged a late day fee, despite returning it at 6:00pm the same day. Went in to the location the next day (Monday) and the lady working agrees it was a mistaken fee and she will reverse the charge. She starts calculating on her phone how much to reverse and then rounds it up to $20??? Real legit. I then ask that the charges be reversed on the spot - she says she has to have her manager authorize so she can’t on the spot. Thinking that’s the last of it we leave and sure enough my credit card gets charged the late fees and the wrong amount. I call Hertz customer service head office and they say there’s no notes on file about reversing the fee. So this lady straight up lied! Clearly this is a scam they have in place since people don’t check their bills closely. Avoid !!!

Customer service was lousy start to finish. Check in check out associates aren't attentive. The call centre is not helpful and uninformed. There are other car rental services down the street - go there.
We booked a Q4 SUV (RAV4 or similar) online with Hertz for our Maritime Vacation because we would be taking one large suitcase and two carry-ons sized bags; stated capacity is 2x large suitcases and 2x carry-on sized bags. When we arrived at the rental location the clerk stated that the vehicle would be a Chevy Trax, but that we could upgrade for a cost. When I explained that we booked a RAV4 or similar vehicle she said that the Trax was; after driving it for two weeks it most definitely is not! The visibility flap in the trunk allowed only the large suitcase to fit, with the carry-ons going in the backseat. When we decided that we should just fold down the back seats, we found out that the seat bottom needed to sit behind the seat in order to allow the seat backs to fold down. This restricted the distance the front seats could be moved, while also preventing the transport of any other individuals. We are extremely dissatisfied with the attempt to upsell us when she could not deliver a suitable vehicle. Upon drop-off no attempt was made by the staff to rectify the issue when we voiced our displeasure. The only silver lining was perhaps slightly better gas mileage, maybe. Extremely dissatisfied with this experience, especially considering that my experience with other rental companies has been much better!
This place is a scam. I was charged over $75 for returning a car late when in fact I had brought it in at least 10 minutes before deadline. I was told I would get a refund but that appears to be a lie. When I was picking up the vehicle, a couple there were being charged a penalty for bringing back a vehicle a day early!!! Who does that! Should have been a warning sign. Don't walk away from this place, run!
It’s not my usual car rental place but the two times I did rent from there it was flawless! I got cheaper prices compared to other companies, I recurved a 10% discount both times just because and the second time I got a free upgrade!! The ladies who work there are super nice and friendly. They helped and answered all of our questions and concerns. I retuned the car a day earlier once and get a little bit of a refund, so that was nice. It’ll be my first go to car rental office as long as the price is cheaper than others.
I recently got a rental from Hertz and after my experience with Natalie Williams and Stephanie I will continue to patronize this establishment. They are the best and gave me such a wonderful experience that I could not help but write a positive review. Ladies, please keep up the great work, your consistent, professional customer service does not go unnoticed. Those ladies deserve a raise!

Of all the car rentals I've had, this is the worst. Made the reservation for my wife, they were in Halifax for a long weekend and wanted a car for a day. I made the reservation, even paid for the LDW for peace of mind, estimated total, $62.05, total on the bill, $103.70, she was told she was to be given an upgrade, (did not ask for one), and on the bill she was charged for it, returned the car full, charged $7.53 to fill up, (obviously used up a lot of gas from the gas station to the hotel). The very last time I rent with Hertz, in Halifax or anywhere else on this planet.

This place is an absolute joke. We went in today to get the car we had rented - a small Mazda - and after waiting for at least half an hour we went down to the parking lot and were given a massive, dirty Jeep covered in mud. When we went upstairs to exchange the vehicle, we had to wait for another HOUR AND A HALF to get the car we had booked. The staff were exceptionally rude and condescending throughout this process. The entire waiting room was filled with people experiencing the exact same issue - they were promised a small car and were given a massive truck and needed to try and exchange it. The staff were attempting to give us something we had not paid for and hoping we would be too stupid to notice. I have never been disrespected like this by a rental place in my life. I will never, ever, ever, be renting a car from Hertz again.
