Took my money and ran. Cancelled 18 hours before my 9 week old prepaid reservation because they had no car available. Hertz couldn't cancel their own reservation in the system and are now declining to refund the rental. Easily the most frustrating customer experience I've ever experienced, regardless of the inconvenience of the late cancellation.

If I could give them no stars I would. They took out over $1000 out of our account for a one day rental and cannot give us any information about why. They could not get us a manager to speak to, told me that they would probably call me back after 24 hours. Customer service kept transferring me to different departments that told me they don't know why they sent me to them. They need to train their customer service better, it's ridiculous how bad they are. I cannot warn people fast enough to never rent from this company, they just don't care.

After having some trouble with the return of my rental because I was unaware of the change in store hours because of the long weekend, Betty was professional and handled the problem. Will definitely be renting again from Hertz on York street. (Only thing that I felt a bit uncomfortable with was leaving the car parked in public parking and dropping the keys off in the dropbox)

Honestly I was pretty worried renting here after seeing all the 1 star reviews but the location and availability was the most convenient for our schedule. My partner and I booked a car, showed up at our pick up time, there were a few people in line but we were in and out within around 15 min. We didn't get the car we wanted but we weren't picky. Dropped off the keys after hours after renting for a few days, received the bill on my credit card with no surprise charges. All in all it was a pretty good and smooth experience for us.

I went here to get a car on the long weekend and it was extremely easy and fast. I was in and out in 5 mins and had the car with a full tank of gas. You can easily return the car at any time in their underground garage, which was fantastic. I would recommend going here

Was NOT the vehicle I thought I reserved online so I payed extra for a car when I had wanted a midsize SUV. When I went to return the vehicle the office was closed. It was Saturday and I did not know they would close at 1. Then they were closed on Sunday. Car returned Monday and I was reassured "not a problem" She then told me there was a drop box I could have put my key in. No one explained that to me when I rented the car or I would have done that. Today I see I was charged for the two extra days. I am so disgusted right now I can't even put it into words. I would like a refund for Saturday and Sunday

I used the reservation to book a specific vehicle, for the second time in a row….the vehicle was not available. Why have a reservation system that doesn’t reserve the vehicle you reserved? No point in reserving vehicles and not providing the vehicle. Shut down your reservation system since the vehicles cannot be reserved and your reservation system doesn’t mean you will get a vehicle. You need to solve your issues, quickly. People rely on reservations, you need people to use your reservation system yet it doesn’t work.

Friendly staff, great prices and fast! We were in and out within 15mins. This is my second time renting from Hertz, first time at this location, and I will continue to look up Hertz first. Reading the bad reviews make me shake my head. 1. Dont sign off on a car if you haven't inspected it yourself. 2. If you don't want to park the car on the street over night, pay for the car until they are open so you can park in the garage.

The employee was extremely rude and tried to rip us off. He did not accept my reservation and didn't rent me the car, even though I fulfilled the rental & legal conditions in Québec. My slightly older partner had to rent it instead and when he set up a new reservation, he knocked off 3.5 hours on the last day of rental, shifting our trip plans practically to the middle of the night. The car was fine but it had an almost flat tire that we consequently had to pump ourselves. When the employee told me to check for pre-existing damages, he did accept none of the damages I circled in and ridiculed me for looking precisely. Very unpleasant experience! Please double-check before renting at this place.

Never experienced this kinda horrible service ever!Call me 12 hours before car pick up and told me there’s no car available, I booked 1 month ahead! The only suggestion is I can pay much higher price to rent an expensive car! Called Herts customer service center, the staff and manager are all uneducated, even asked me if it’s ok to get a car in Toronto! I asked them to solve the problem, then they hung up my phone call. Never ever chose Hertz again!

Herz is terrible. I rent their car in Vancouver airport. The staff lie to us for let two person to sign is to change the driver's name, but she actually added another driver's name for charge more than 100 dollars. Also, the service like GPS, she did not let us choose but directly added, which charges more than 300 dollars. And the staff did not tell us the limit of the amount of miles, which led us to pay hundreds dollars charge because the extra kilometers.

I had a hard time renting a car because the lady manager was super racist and got all the reasons to block my credit card, it had my initials rather my name (I have three first names). She didn't wanna hear my clear story, and was just jumping to every reason to decline my rental. I never had a problem renting cars or hotels with the credit card. After 45 mins finally got to call the bank and identify myself as the holder after the lady went on her lunch break. however Mousa the sales rep was on the contrary, very welcoming, finalizing my rental and sympotheizing with the situation. I can't believe this woman is the manager there, even fast food joints have better customer service than her.

Reserved a truck. Confirmation was quick and pickup smooth. The final invoice was $90 more than the reservation quote. Emails to their billing and service departments were never answered. Stay away from this place. Even proof in writing is not sufficient to get a honest treatment.

On Friday November 12th I rented a car with this company, the young lady who rented the car to me never told me that she had limited my number of authorized KM. I took their insurance because I was not sure if I was insured with my credit card and the young lady told me that as I was taking out their insurance she was going to give me a promotion with the price of the car. I didn't ask myself any questions and just left. Note that I had confirmed on their website that the base rate had UNLIMITED km. So it was not my surprise when I see on my visa this morning almost $ 200 for a rental day, can you imagine? because yes I returned the car on November 13 at the same time. So I call Hertz, being surprised, and there a man who is so aggressive answers me by telling me that he was not there when I rented the car and that I only have to call back tomorrow when his colleague would be present. I have never been spoken to in such a tone, he was borderline annoyed by my questions and told me that he cannot help me. So I called Hertz customer service and escalated my problem to head office. I am waiting to hear from them to resolve my issue and will update you once it does. But if you want advice do not go rent a car with them because when it comes to solving your problems no one is responsible, if the young lady no longer worked for them I imagine that the gentleman would answer me too bad for me she doesn't work here anymore so they won't solve my problem. I don't have to call back the next day because Monsieur was not there when I rented my car, he is just as much a representative of Hertz as the young lady with whom I rented, that's not my problem if it is Pierre, Paul or Jacques who made the arrangements for my rental because they all work in the same capacity at Hertz. Donc j'appelle Hertz en étant surprise, et là un monsieur tellement agressif me répond en me disant qu'il n'était pas là quand je louais la voiture et que je n'ai qu'à rappeler demain quand sa collègue serait présente. On ne m'a jamais parlé avec un tel ton, il était limite agacé par mes questions et m'a dit qu'il ne peut pas m'aider. Donc j'ai appelé le service à la clientèle de Hertz et j'ai fait escaladé mon problème au siège social. I have no issue with Hertz but the location on York street in Ottawa is horrible. The manager Betty was rude. Wasnt willing to work with me. I had a small car reserved but she called me to tell me there were no small cars left but I could upgrade for 10 bucks???? Is that not suppose to be complimentary? I had no choice. I get there and I hear them offering everyone complimentary upgrades??? So why did I have to pay. They was she talked and demands her employees is u ethical and degrading. The gentleman named Musa was so nice and welcoming and basically did all the work while she sat on her cell and ate. I had to sit there and wait for a car listening to her tell so many ppl they are short on vehicles and then tell another person there is a 3 day limit yet whispered to him he can have it longer dont worry. Just absolutely an awful experience. Never will I go to that location again. I returned the car to Bank street and the guy was amazing and helpful and will get my business again

I don’t normally share bad reviews, but this one I must. I was “served” / “helped” by two men on December 23, 2021 at around 10:30 AM A few things. 1. I was told that if I return the car at 10:30 AM instead of 10:00AM, they wouldn’t charge the extra $25. Result: they charged the $25 and I didn’t notice until I reviewed the receipt later. I tried to go over solutions with them, but all they could do was send a gift card. 2. I had to wait 20+ minutes to simple return my car. There was only one person running around trying to help everyone (he was newer, so I understand). I asked if there was someone else who could help me (there was a man sitting on his computer behind me), but the guy said he’s the only one. There were multiple errors on my receipt. Gas price, mileage, and the extra charge. 3. I have empathy and understand that everyone has bad days, but the two gentlemen working with rather unfriendly and it was one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had in my life. This is the first time I’ve ever felt called to write a review like this, but I don’t want anyone else to experience this. I hope Hertz can rectify this.

Starting Janurary 2019, you have to have a full G to rent a vehicle. Otherwise good service, nice selection of automobiles. I suggest you reserve your car ahead of time. They put a hold on you credit card depending on the car, the bigger the car, the bigger the hold.

I can't believe how inconsiderate the attendent is. I called ahead to check to make sure my large size SUV was there, I explained I needed the large size as I'm 6 foot 10. I drove one hour to get that vehicle, and when I arrived he told me that the vehicle was actually given out yesterday. Obviously upset I returned to the car I received the ride there in. I started looking for other vehicles when the guy comes out and tells me I should drive to the airport, they have Durangos to rent there. I went inside and asked, before I go, can he DOUBLE CHECK to make sure there was a durango held for me. He had not even checked to see if there was one there available for me! He called and they told him they were sold out of all vehicles. He almost made me drive another 20 minutes! This guy is an inconsiderate a** who obviously doesn't care about customer service, not enough to inconvenience himself enough to look on his computer, or pick up the phone, before wasting my time.

VERY HARD TO FIND THIS LOCATION. You have to look carefully (see photos), Hertz has only a few designated car parking spaces. I didn't deal with an agent directly, I used to drop off box but it seems like they don't check it. They never updated their systems. Not the most smooth experience.

If you're five minutes late returning the car they will charge you for another day. Their cars are usually pretty dirty and can be full of pet hair. The staff can be pretty rude as well (although not all the time). Convenient location is the only good thing I have to say so far.

He tells us that there are no valves left and that all he can give us is a pick up because "there are no valves left and he cannot build us a truck". After several painful minutes, of agitation and total despair, he finally found us a truck double the size. So here we are on our way to Montreal with an oversized truck and a very bitter taste of our experience. We had problems with the gas cap and couldn't get gas in the car. We took it back 30 minutes before their closing time but they had closed early. Called every number available but couldn't get any live body to talk to. Left the vehicle at the rental place 3 hours after we picked it up and had to cancel our trip. Took keys in first thing next morning and they still charged us a day. DO NOT use these people!!!

Horrible experience. Definitely would not recommend getting a rental through them. Called a month and a half ago for a 12 passenger van. They stated they usually don’t have them at this location but they would make sure they had one for me. On the day of pickup they told me they didn’t have my 12 passenger van, that they only had a 7 passenger van. This completely ruined the plans for a bachelorette weekend. Will never be using them again.

I went in today to check if there were any cars available. From the moment I went in, I was not greeted, I was just rudely asked if I was there to rent a car. They told me they had no cars available because of the holidays, and they refused to help any further with looking for cars in other Herts locations. They told us they were having a few cars turned in that day, and they could call us back later, and they mentioned specifically one that was being tuned in at 12:30. It just seemed like they wanted us out, and they didn’t want to work with us. We called an Uber and as we were waiting, the 12:30 car was turned in. We asked about it and they told us No and we don’t really know why, but 5 minutes later a lady comes in and asks if they had any cars available, and stated that she didn’t care what car it was, she just needed wheels to get around on. They immediately gave her the 12:30 car that was just returned. We left very upset and we felt very discriminated against, either for being young (we are both 21+) , or speaking Spanish. Their customer service is awful and they should defiantly do something about those rude employees.

I booked a vehicle online a couple days ago for today. Before being dropped off at the location I called to double check the vehicle was there and ready, as I can see that previous people have had issues. It was confirmed that the vehicle was in fact there. When I arrived the same attendant who I had talked up on the phone told me that the vehicle was not available and there was nothing until Tuesday. Now I am forced to go elsewhere and try to find a vehicle last minute. The guy working seemed very unconcerned and unapologetic and obviously has no concern for wasting others time. Worst service I’ve received.

The worst customer service ever by far. I reserved a car 3 weeks before my trip, and two days prior to pickup date they cancelled on me without taking any responsibility. Didn’t offer any alternatives. They allow reservations beyond their capacity, then cancel the cheaper ones at the end. Very dishonest!!

The staff member helping us was with our rental was polite but did not listen or look at us the entire time she was processing our rental which lead to several errors: 1) she told us we had to send in our car rental receipt to MPI…which we found out the next day is inaccurate (Hertz direct bills) 2) The Erin location hertz then made us drive back to the Erin location the next day to fix the problem (couldn’t be done over the phone) 3)proceeded to bill us for the one day and told us to send that receipt to MPI to receive a refund. Hertz proceeded to charge MPI for the same start date for the rental and MPI told us it’s Hertz who should give us the refund. Who knows if we’ll receive this money back. 4) charged us for additional insurance, which we cancelled (given MPI confirmed we already had that insurance) and had to call customer service to have that returned. Thank goodness customer service was informative, patient and helpful. The manager at this Erin location was rude and arrogant and gave us no help. The vehicle was good though, no concerns with the rental car….just the experience was horrible.

I had booked a car 10 days prior to yesterday, in order to drop off my brother at the airport in Montreal. It wasn't the first time i rent with Hertz, and I never had a problem in the past. However, yesterday around 10am, the customer service rep took a quick look at my driver's license and said "sir you have a G2, you're not getting a car today". I was surprised because i never had an issue with Hertz and i rented multiple times with them in the past. I explained that I needed to be in Montreal in 6 hours and that i never had a problem in the past. She did not care nor did she even try to look as if she was helping. She kept on telling me "you're not getting a car today". I politely asked to speak to a manager, there was no one available. I left incredibly disappointed and thankfully managed to find a car quickly with another company. Unfortunately, I will never be renting with Hertz again, as I did not feel that i was treated with respect nor listened to. Also, I would like to point out that all the other rental companies were willing to rent me a car without a problem, even with a G2 and I never heard of this policy before, nor was it mentioned anywhere on the website as I was making my reservation, which is incredibly misleading. Hopefully my message will help future Hertz customers and not let them go through what i went through.

Stay away from this location if you care even a little about customer service! There were two women (the first one appeared of Indian decent, while the second one was an older Caucasian) working there when I picked up the vehicle. Not only did they lack manners, they were rude and unhelpful. The issue was that I was reluctant to have my signature saved on their computer system, so I asked if there was another way to complete the contract. The first woman had an issue with my concern, while the other started shouting at me, saying what the hell was my problem! Unfortunately, I needed the car at the time, so I tried to deal appropriately with them. However, when I was given the key, none of the personnel came out with me to the car to do the inspection, and said the car was fine. Upon my inspection, there was a dent on the side, which I brought to their attention, but they had issue with that as well. I spoke to Hertz using their online contact information, but they told me that the location was independently operated. Later I tried contacting the manager and owner of the location and left messages. However, I have not received a response in the last few months. It was a terrible experience, and I would not even give a star if that was possible.

When we asked for a map, she said she was out and didn't offer any more help. They indicated gas stations were all over but we didn't see one and as such, returned the car after only 20 miles and they seemed rather negative we didn't fill it up.

Terrible communication. They dont answer the phone and seldom return calls. I needed a pickup at McNaught motors as I was having some work done on my company car. Element set me up with Hertz. I requested a pickup at the dealership. I tried to confirm with Hertz a number of times about the pick up but no answer. when nobody showed at the pick up for 1/2 hour, I called Hertz's 1800 number. they were able to get through to the office only to tell me that their pick up area is only 25 min from the Hertz office. Mcnaught is 23 minutes according to google maps. I understand that you cant go outside of your zone but at least answer your phone or call your customers back. Terrible customer service. when I finally got a ride to their office nothing was said. It was as if it didnt happen.

Absolutely horrible experience. Customer service was terrible and when the car was rented to me it was at a quarter tank of gas. Found they had billed me an additional $170 after having already paid. When called to inquire they told me I had returned it late when in actuality I returned it two days early. Also billed me $9.99 a gallon because I did not fill the tank. I returned it at half a tank which was more than what it had when I received it. Could not get the gas lid to open and the windshield wipers did not work. Had to put in the washer fluid myself. When asked for a refund, I was told it would be 7 to 10 business days of it is approved. The finality of my call with customer service sounds like I am not getting my money back.

I had a seamless experience with pick up and drop off, all thanks to Carrie working the front desk on both occasions. When I didn’t like the car they had set aside for me, she offered a variety of other vehicles within the same class. The one I wanted was dirty and she had the staff clean it up immediately. Upon return I was in a rush to get to the airport and Carrie responded by bringing me to the airport herself to make sure I would get there on time. Carrie’s customer service blew me away and is the reason I will continue to rent from this location whenever I go back to Winnipeg. Bonus: They had the best prices in town.

Terrible. I have rented many times from this place because it is close to my business. Most of the staff are friendly except for the Manager, who is usually the one working. They make you sign for "no damage" before you even see the car. Inevitably there is damage and they pretend they did not know. If you miss something, when you bring it back they will try to charge you for it. This has happened to me and several coworkers. It even happened to me twice on the same car! They'll do anything to scam you.

Today Ottawa was recovering from a tornado and consequent power outage. I had to return a car and there was only one gas station operating in the entire city due to the lack of power (i drove around from one closed station to another despite there not being operating traffic lights either). finally found one (I think the only one operating in the city, Rideau & King Edward) and managed to almost completely fill up the tank before the pump went dry (because, of course, it was the only operating gas station and it was bound to go out of gas). I went to return the car. The clerk charged as if 1/8 of the deposit was empty (despite the fact that it was much less what remained to fill up the tank) because they had no means to measure how much was needed and that was the minimum they could enter in the computer, and of course they charged me the gas as if it was just any day and I had failed to fill up the tank (could have charged me as if i bought the regular price they offer..., for example). I've filed a complaint, if anything because I don't think the way they charged me was legal (they didn't measure how much gas was needed and that is what the rental contract stated). I don't much care about the money, but the fact that they charged me for 1/8 of the tank (how can that be!) and couldn't really be understanding about the whole situation, in a day like today!..., this was my last time here.

I booked a car through Expedia about 3 months before pickup. 20hrs before my pickup time, they emailed me to say they overbooked and had no car for me. No offer of anything else, no phone call, no nothing. I called them and they just shrugged it off. I have booked many cars over the years using various rental agencies and this is the first time I have ever experienced such unprofessionalism. Stay away from this rental agency. Don't think just because you book something with them means that you will get an actual rental the day you need it.

I've been a Hertz customer for years and was always satisfied with the company and their services, but not at this location! They have a strict rental policy where they count every minute of your rental, so if you return your car after their office has closed and drop your keys off at night they will charge you for one extra day. If there was a zero, I would be giving it. I ended up with a $200+ extra on my receipt because of mileage. When I had reserved over the phone I had specified I needed unlimited km on the rental. Very unhelpful and since this is a privately own Hertz, they easily don't mind ripping you off. I rent numerous vehicles every year and a Gold Member with Hertz. This would be the last time I'll be renting from this location (My second time using this location). Let this be a warning to others for the hidden charges which this location tries to stick to you. You are better off at other Hertz locations or other competitors.

They would not admit any wrong doing and basically have stolen from me and refilled the gas tank on my dime! When I asked them to check the odometer to prove I didn’t use all that gas, They said all their paperwork stated that the tank was full when I took it.I will never use this rental company again.

Horrible experience at this location. I returned my car rental on same day, the manager called me next morning asking about key. I advised was in drop box, where they wanted it. A few days later i was charged for 2 days rental even after verifying car was returned well within 1 day. When i called to complain the manager claims it was an oversight and that I would have to wait 3-4 weeks for refund of the extra day that was charged. Its been 5 weeks and i still don't have my refund. Beware of this location!! Very dishonest!!! This location has many negative reviews supporting my experience. Friendly service, clean cars, and great rates. The website reservation process and 1-800 customer care numbers can be really hard to deal with, but the location took care of everything quickly and efficiently when I called them. Will definitely rent from this Hertz location again!

Do not rent from this location! I was told a vehicle was available that was not and (mid covid), I had already been dropped off and had no choice but to take whatever was available. The manager was unapologetic and dismissive. I was promised a rate that did not show up on my bill and again the management was unapologetic about the mistake. Would not rent from Hertz (or at least not this location) again.

They charged me over $50 in toll charges! And apparently their going to keep charging me. Cause I’m NY they have no toll booth you go right through. Be careful cause they are charging you a service Fee and a convenient fee. I also went there and the lady told me I can bring the car back half full. Came back with it half full and she denied saying that. Wow! the car was 75% full when I got it and when I Brought it back it was 50% full and they tried to charge me for the entire tank! Not the 25% that it was missing! They will literally try anything they can to charge your card over and over! I never ever had a problem renting from them in the past 4 years but this place here is TERRIBLE! Once they have your bank card information they will charge it over and over again! Go rent at enterprise this place ain’t worth it.

I made reservations via Amex (since I get a gold membership with Hertz) for a pick up truck. When I arrived first thing in the morning for my reservations, they told me they didn't have the truck. I could wait an hour for it or go get it myself out of province. By far, my worse experience with Hertz. I since used Alamo through Costco and receive seamless service.

NEVER EVER give this place your bank number. EVER! They will charge you and say "it was auto generated". Here's my story. I was in a small car incident. The woman's insurance paid for everything, EVEN THE RENTAL. Or so I thought. I got home from dropping my car off at the shop, and what do you know - there was a $95 charge to my bank. I called and was told it was a security deposit and insurance, both of which were NOT discussed to me when I got the rental, and neither of the charges were authorized. That was in mid-December 2017. Today, Jan 24, 2018, there is a $155 charge to my bank. When I called in, I was told that it was "auto-generated" and the manager didn't know why. She guessed it was because my account was still pending. Huh? Exactly. So now I have to dispute this transaction with my bank, call the insurance company for "reimbursement" because Hertz is a company that likes to steal money. I'm also going to get a new bank card because knowing how shady this company is, I'll probably get charged again next month.
