The selection of cars is great, location is close to transit, inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel. However, the "after hours" return fee of $20 is definitely expensive.

Car was OK. Staff are low class. I waited over an hour for pick up. When I returned the car they charged a key drop fee. When I questioned it I am not pleased with the way they spoke to me nor how they treated others. Payless is not less expensive but the customer service is certainly less than a Canadian company. Never again.

Is my third time renting at this place did not have any issues with the services provided.The second visit,we had a SUV instead of a compact for the same price because there was no cars left.Fast service, the guys were polite, car was clean nothing negative to say for now.Just that theres extra fees not showing on in hotwire website, for example ;10$ more for unlimited miles.I recommend this car rental give it a chance you will see by yourself.

it was the worst car rental experience that I have ever had. Please, please read the reviews before renting from this company. I should have read them before renting. I returned my rental vehicle to the location before it was due, but the Manager (Martin) still charged me $20 drop-off fee for leaving the vehicle key with the hotel concierge because he was not at the office. Very terrible experience.

If you book with Hotwire you will get fooled. They add extra charges which are not mentioned by Hotwire. Their location is at the hotel and they charge "premium location" fee. Be careful for those hidden charges

From beginning to end was easy and very satisfied . Had read a lot of negative reviews and was worried about renting with Payless and also because they were off site. However the price was right and I gave it a try. The Terminal Link train ride from Peasrson airport was a lot easier than I thought. Picked up the courtesy phone at Viscount station and was picked up in 5 minutes. Checking in was easy. Staff was polite and professional . Tiny office in the Crown Plaza Hotel. Voiced my concern with the staff and they reassured me I would satisfied. They explained that management had changed over last fall. Was given a Hyundai . The car was spotless and comfortable. All good. Brought the car back 3 days later , was greeted outside and in 5 minutes check out all done. Could not ask for more. Thank you Payless Car Rental staff , keep up the good work ????

Terrible experience. First we have to wait 30 minutes to be picked up in a "shuttle" and by "shuttle" I mean some guy's van. Then we were charged tax twice when attempting to add my husband as a second driver. The staff are completely incompetent. They didn't understand how the total was given just kept saying to pay it. We explained many times and showed them how the tax had been charged twice but they didn't understand and wouldn't allow me to speak to the manager. They kept calling him but wouldn't let me speak. Finally, exhausted we just accepted it and tried to leave. They give us a car covered in snow so it's hard to check for damage but seems ok. When we returned the car today they show us 2 small scratches on the front and said it's our fault. We did nothing and definitely couldn't see them when we got the car because of the snow. This place is absolutely awful. Rent from anywhere else.

There is always a problem with this company. 1st time: they wanted me to pay for milage even though it said unlimited milage made a complaint and did not pay it after complaint. 2nd time: They made drive all the way back to the gas station because the gas "wasn't full" went to the gas station and put 90 cents of gas (cause it wouldnt take any more) and drove back, then they said it was full (after 90 cents of gas). Never using or recommending this place again.

Absolutely appalling service through and through at this 33 Carlson Ct location. Although I booked a full-size, they only had compact cars. The 1st had a check engine light, & the 2nd they presented me with, a tire pressure warning light. After over a half-hour of waiting, exchanges, and hassle I finally got a 3rd car - albeit a dirty one, both interior and exterior. Upon returning the car I was charged for an extra day wrongly ! - and the customer service attendant refused to budge. I had to follow up with VISA to charge this back. Finally, this location is terribly inconvenient to access from Pearson Airport. I waited over 10 minutes for a shuttle to arrive - this location is actually located in a hotel a fair hike from the airport. No discount is worth the amount of waiting, rudeness, and inconvenience involved in renting from Payless!!! Rent in-terminal. And just stay away.

Worst service in the world! It took 2 hours to pick up the car! Besides the delay, on the website rental cars they say they are in the airport terminal, however in the airport you need to wait around 30 minutes until they come to pick you up.

I just used these guys this weekend, and feel compelled to write a review. Its not at the airport, as expected when booked but it was actually difficult to get to as there was no indication as to where you needed to go. Waited 40mins for the shuttle to pick me and 4 other customers up. When we arrived at the hotel we were told they had no cars. It was going to be another 45 minute wait. The customer service representative was not very sympathetic smirking and laughing that they'd had a busy day and rented all the cars, which appeared to annoy customers even more. The cars turned up after 45 minutes and we were all dealt with and sent on our way. The car I had was better than expected and I cant fault the service after the initial pick up, just wasn't a great start to the trip. I would recommend booking with a car company based inside the airport as this was not an easy transaction at all.

We had never been cheated by anyone as badly as when we used this car rental in 2010, bad enough that we had to go to the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. When we ordered the car, the estimated total was $321.62, which seemed a good price at the time. I still regret it. When we returned the car we were hit with a whopping $600 total fee for “other” charges, and it was only then that we noticed that this sly company hadn’t actually filled out a final price when we took the car, only when we returned it. BBB tried to contact them and never heard back, so we remained cheated with no recompense. Stay far far away from this scam.

Had a car available the same day I booked for one. Price ended up being a bit more than I expected from the booking site. Booking sites do not take into account fees specific to payless. When we returned the vehicle the guy offered to give us a ride to the airport as he was going to top off the gas as it was just below full. Didn't charge us for it and reduced our bill because we returned a half hour early. I don't know his name but I'm very appreciative and an overall good experience

Using Payless for car rental was a pleasant experience. They were affordable and easy to work with & getting checked in was pretty smooth. Even though there was like 2 persons working the counter, they try to move fast. The location is a small store within the crown plaza hotel, so make sure you enter the lobby and turn left. You'll see the Payless counter. The car I got was pretty nice, a 2018 VW Golf so I enjoyed it since it reminded me of my Suzuki Swift. If you are confident in your driving skills you can consider decline adding protection especially if its a short period you're renting for. Everything has tax so be smart about your add ons

Waiting for 2 hours to pick up the car. They had no system whatsoever. It was 1 guy working there, and dispite the line of 20 people, after 15 minutes of paperwork he had to walk them to the car everytime adding another 15 min to each customer. The location is also far out from the airport so this took me the good part of my day...

Go elsewhere....You’ll pay less in the long run. They seemed like the most affordable upfront but after all the fees we ended up paying way more than quoted! They charged $120 to get my husband’s name on the waiver (other car rental places don’t charge to add your spouse) Then when we dropped it off it suddenly went up $50 with no real explanation. (The people in there before us were in a heated discussion about their bill which sounded like it was more than $200 more than quoted.) And then six weeks after I get a toll bill for $4.20 - I have no problem paying that - however the $17 administration fee seems a little over the top.

Service was good, the staff were friendly and professional. The shuttle service from the airport was prompt. I don’t think that they take very good care of their cars. They gave us a car that needed an oil change and the warning kept coming up to change the oil the entire time that we drove it. We called the company about it and they told us not to worry about it. Seems a bit expensive for what you get.

Getting to Payless rental car from the airport is a witch hunt! You'll not find them at the Airport terminal along with the other rental car companies. You need to take a train to VISCOUNT station, descend down the stairs, find a small payphone, and hit the "Payless" button and talk to someone. They would then arrive and take you to CROWNE PLACE, of which they operate. The cars are good, and you get very good prices, which makes it worth it. 3 STARs just because for the ride to get to Payless rental - 4 stars otherwise!

Short review: Terrible. Long: Booked through Priceline about a month before the rental dates, wasn’t informed anywhere that it’s actually an off airport location that’s 7-8 minutes drive away. No directions from both Priceline and car rental on how to get there but we managed to ask around. Waited for them to come pick us up for about half an hour, gave us a dirty car. When we requested for a clean car, they told us to wait for 5 minutes which turned into a 20 minute wait, when in actual fact, they went to have the car washed. It was almost an hour before we could finally leave with a car. Both guys we dealed with were unfriendly and seemed rather annoyed. Overall the service was just very unprofessional and inefficient. Only good thing was the great car we got.

Best experience I've had with a rental company. Sam and Riaze were beyond helpful. I would give these guys 10 star out of 5 for the level of patience, respect and integrity they have. This is more than a rental company. These guys treat you like family and im 100 percent bringing all my clients including myself for any rental I need. Best prices in town hands down and they gave us the vehicle to travel from Toronto to vancouver with no questions asked. Thank you Sam and Riaze for being extremely helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Zero stars! Made a reservation called to confirm I could park my car there for free, get there and told I would have to pay $8 a day . No customer service, bad attitude and wasted my time. Note: this place is not in the airport but 10-15 blocks away.

The car and price were great! 5 stars for those! The staff at the pickup/drop off center are polite. However, the service and shuttle is just painfully SLOW. Arriving at the airport, it took me over an hour to get the car (25-30 minutes waiting for the shuttle from the airport to the car pickup location and then another 30-40 minutes to get the car), on the way back, when I was dropping the car I ended up just getting a $20 cab from their car drop off location to the airport, because their only shuttle had just left to pick up another passenger and I was afraid to miss my flight.

I will never go back to this agency. They list their prices in US dollars even though they are in Canada. There was no indication that the prices were not in Canadian dollars!! I rented from them twice; for three weeks and for 10 days. They charged me almost $100 more for the second time which was much shorter. They are dishonest crooks. Avoid them!!!

Great price, staff member tried to say the front had a scratch, it didn't. The Car I got was a complete gas guzzler for only being driven 143 kms.. 15 dollars of gas later. Its a long process to rent here I find.

Rental Car just like the name Payless. Great new location in the lobby of a great hotel which is quite upgrade from their previous location. I compared prices from a few competitors sites and saw Payless prices beat others a few times. I had received a great vehicle for unbeatable price and unlimited mileage. Totally horrible, i booked this location via kayak, it came up an airport location, I had an early morning flight, so i had to dropoff the car at 5am, 1st i was charging 15% for premium location surge charge ( mind you they are located far away from the airport ) then i was informed I'll be charged $20 for dropping off the car after hours, informed them I've never heard of such chargers, especially for an airport location. They said it was there policy and i had to deal with it.

Ot givens confirmation number so we had to call around for it before getting to talk to them Ms find out all the previous. They then told us that if we wanted something it would be $100 a day.

This was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Reserved a car from Payless at the YYZ airport location and landed with no one answering the phone. Ended up having to last minute reserve from Discount car rentals (absolutely impeccable service - definitely pick them) and they set us up with a car for the day. Called Payless in the morning only to be told they were open and have no idea why no one was answering the phone - apparently people were renting cars from the exact location I was at all night long even though my husband and I were alone and did not see a single soul. Not even an apology to say "I am sorry ma'am I have no idea how this could have happened" only that they had done no wrong. Terrible, terrible, service. I will never use Payless or recommend them to anyone.

Always had a very good experience with these guys. This time they went even to the extra mile. I gave the car back, and the next shuttle to the airport would happen just in 20min, but my boarding would start in 30min. The guy was super nice and offered a ride to me and dropped me off at terminal 3!!(usually they drop people off at Viscount Station, which would take me another 10min minimum to arrive to terminal 3). 5 stars for you guys!!thanks a lot!:)

There was extra fees upon picking up the car. Car was rather dirty (exterior) and had bright green marker all over the window like it just came from auction. There was no fluid to clean the windshield. I wouldn't rent from here again. Service shuttle driver had the music insanely loud and drove very aggressive. Basically flooring the shuttle van every opportunity he could. This was on Nov 22 2019.

We had to wait over 45 mins after finding out that this car rental was not at the airport (my fault) to get the shuttle then wait another hour for a car. There were over 10 people in line and they did not have a car for any of us until 2 were returned then they had said it would be another hour for others waiting. We had requested GPS so they rented us a Garmin and the charger was broken so my husband had to hold it the entire way to Niagara Falls. Extremely poor customer service! Will not use this rental services again and would highly recommend paying the extra for the companies at the airport!

It is 5 minutes of bus stop and inside of a hotel. it has got brand new and clean cars. most of the time they offer the cheapest price compared to other companies. I had a good experience with Payless company and going to rent one more time very soon.

I went there on time but the employee was dealing with other client and he came to me after 20 mins. For that he put 20$ as late fee. I would say worst car rental ever. Offsite rental is always an inconvenience, but the shuttle to & from the airport was prompt, so things could've been worse. Rental staff were courteous and friendly, but the rental process and forms were far less polished than big name rental outfits, and it took longer to get a car. The car itself was the biggest problem. It had not been cleaned (inside or out), and the interior smelled of stale cigarette smoke. There was even a half full Pepsi bottle rattling around in the door pocket. The rate was good, but you get what you pay for.

Money loving theives.. I brought the car back with the needle on F full.. The guy comes and says its not full... and demands another 5L or he'll charge my card for $20 extra. Such a waste of time had to go get 5L of gas and come back in time or else he wouldve charged me a full day, instead of an hour or less. After seeing some negative reviews here I felt compelled to get the story straight–these guys are amazing. Fair price and they are upfront about the cost of additional fees. From booking to return, the rental process was seamless. I received terrific customer service. The employees were very friendly and they offered to drive me to the airport when I returned the vehicle. Can't say enough good stuff, I'll be back.

The place to rent the car is not in the airport like others rental cars companies. Once there, even if I had a reservation, there was no car available!! Couldn't even proceed with the papers. We had to wait until the cars were ready. So we had to wait an extra 1h30 to have a car!!

Ive been renting from this company for years and always had a good car at a great price. They are a bit slow, and the staff is usually beaten up from dealing with 'undesirable' personalities and cheap narrow minded people. Overall I recommend this place to everyone and they are always striving to improve within the budget they have available.

I arrived a the dropp off location at 6am and they open at 7am but I waited because I wanted to talk to the payless agent and make sure everything was fine before I left. He sai everything was fine and gave me a final receipt for $506 dolars. 4 days after I got a charge on my creditcard for $528 (22 dolar for gas). How does that make sense if I gased it up to the rim couple blocks away from payless just before I returned the vehicle and also after payless agent said everything was fine and issued a final receipt? Payless hasn't done anything about it so far. They just tried to stick into my mind that owed that money (but I returned the vehicle with full tank). They wanted to send me a picture 4 days after I returned the vehicle to show the gas needle (they only offered to do that because I called them about the extra charge). How does that make sense when the vehicle may had been already rented to someone else? Then I would be paying for someone else's gas, no sense at all. So far I can't stop thinking I got ripped off by a big company by 20 dollars which they are refusing to acknowledge and return to me. Just want to share my experience and try to help you in the future if dealing with payless. Shame on you payless ripping off people for $20 dollars.

This company is a scam. I rented a car in September 2019 There was a damage on the front bumper. The key is saying the car is grey. The actual car is navy blue. They contacted me after one year saying I have to pay the damage. The insurance company is saying the dead line of the claim is passed. Basically Paylesss is a scam And the insurance company of my credit card is a scam too.

I had a very bad experience at this Payless rental company. They charged me $20 for over-night drop fee. What is that??? It is unbelievable that they charge customers for fees like that. why don't they just like any other rental car companies providing a key dropbox for customers to use instead of charging this ridiculous $20 overnight drop fee? i will never rent at this so called "Payless" company again!!!!

This is the second time I used this company. The first time was a disaster. This time-- they are in a new location and a new management company. The service was excellent. No waiting, staff very courteous, pleasant and helpful. I rented a new Volkswagen Beetle and loved it!! Even though this rental agency was offsite, it is in a great location and easy to get to and from the airport.

Didnt start good. On the email reservation, they send me to downtown. And the only payless car rental in Toronto GTA it is at Crown Plaza. Let s see how will go with the actually rental. I will uptade.

I used them twice and decided to never use them again. Customer service was slow both times, especially waiting 10 - 15 minutes to get the car. Car was dirty inside (they do not vacuum the carpets) Also return process was slow. Finally, they placed a pending 350.00 charge on my credit card, which remained in place for several days after car returned.

Avoid! Not in the airport property. Planes, trains, and automobiles to get to the rental office (inside a crown plaza hotel) significantly far from airport. You take a train and then....no signs! No idea what to do or where to go! Do I walk? Do I get picked up? Is a flying carpet coming to get me? Only got a ride when I overheard an plain clothes guy in an unmarked car pick up another couple outside the train station! Horrible. Just pay the higher rate with another company and thank me later...

DO NOT USE PAYLESS. I booked a car rental in Turks and Caicos, and was charged for my car, and an additional $367 USD - no one seems to know why. I brought this to the Payless Customer Service team who created a ticket on Oct 31 stating there would be a response in 3 days. Five days later I contacted them looking for an update, there was no response. Again I sent a follow up email, with no response. I called again today (35 days after the charge was put on my card, and 29 days after the ticket was created). Customer Service's response was "It doesn't look like anyone has read the ticket yet". So here I am, paying interest on my credit card because Payless overcharged me and cannot correct the problem. This is the worst customer service I have experienced with any organization. Don't use payless unless you want wasted time and headaches. Unhappy customer.

My first impression with payless was aweful. From the time we landed into getting us a car took over 3 hours. I did get good vehicle after the long wait and off i went. I wanted to extend the booking for a day, they said the rate went from $690 to $1070. I still currently have the vehicle, i booked an extension with them and they said i would have to come in from london, 2 hours away to come back to sign a document or pay an $80 increase. Also charge $10 a day for an extra driver. These guys have horrible at customer service and dont care about retaining customers what so ever. Im regretting choosing these guys dont think ill ever book with them again. Please avoid if you like to be appreciated or would like to save money.

Customer service was terrible. I personally did not have problems getting my car rental, but there were plenty of people at their office who were complaining about being ripped off and not catching the "scheduled" shuttles on time, waiting excessively long, etc. Also, this scummy place charged me a $50 administration fee to pay a $6 toll fee, and another $50 administration fee to pay a $30 parking ticket. That's what happens when you try to save a few bucks on your car rental. I also rented a Toyota Camry "or similar" and ended up with a Hyundai Elantra...that's disappointing.

We got a brand new Tucson with more features than I could name, with only 800 miles on it, for the best price in the city. We dealt with Vishnu (hopefully I am not slaughtering his name) and other June 15 staff. Everybody was very polite, and a young gentleman accompanied us to the car and offered to haul our luggage. I don't understand those who complain about the location. The company is transparent about not being right at the airport. They cut costs so you guys can get a better deal. It took us 25 mins from the terminal to get to the location, and about 10 minutes to get a car.

I had a great experience renting with Payless. I got a good rate and the staff were super friendly. I unfortunately damaged my rental car on the way to drop it off, and that incident was handled very well - I was very disturbed myself and the way the staff responded was very helpful. One thing that should be attended to was that the phone at the Viscount station (part of the airport train loop), (where you are supposed to call for the Payless shuttle), was damaged and not working. Normally this wouldn't be a problem... but my cell phone wasn't working either.

Colleague rented a car from Payless today. She arrived to our office and there were fumes coming out of the front hood. When we opened the hood there is oil all over the engine! Someone took the cap off of the oil tank and forgot to put it back! The gentlemen tried to apologize saying the oil change was rushed but the oil is black! There is no way the oil was recently changed. The car is also extremely low on coolant and has no wiper fluid in the middle of January! We also have to bring the unsafe car back to them since they do not have enough employees to pick it up. Not worth saving a few dollars. Spend the extra money and get a reliable, new car from Enterprise. These small rental companies are robbers. After my colleague return the rental car they asked my colleague why she posted a bad review and if she could remove the review considering they gave her a different car and a discount. The reason for the poor review is that you provided her with an UNSAFE vehicle to begin with as well as making her drive the unsafe vehicle back to your lot...A discount and swapping out cars would not have saved her life God forbid she was in an accident with one of your vehicles..

For those complaining about the location - its should be listed on the site where you booked - I checked a few sites and all of them told me 33 Carlson Court, inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel - I"m not sure where you are all booking from but it was easy to locate for me. Fast Service - affordable rentals with a cheap upgrade option. The car was clean and gassed up to full. Service was good - no pressure from the reps on insurance and upsells. Would recommend. And if you are booking from Pearson - take the free shuttle to the crowne - you'll save a lot compared to the airport bookings at the terminal.

I wanted to write in a review for these guys, especially during these covid times. The gentleman who picked me up and dropped me was very kind and polite. The young man at the front desk was very professional. I was dropped back without a delay. I wasn't hassled for anything. It was a easy rental process. I will definitely consider them again.

I agree you will be paying a little less BUT it is NOT worth it , it was the worst experience ever in car rentals, because of the following: -2 of my Credit Cards had a fraud transactions from Payless Rentals 2 months after I left Canada -Staff are not friendly -You CAN NOT drop the car at different location -Off terminal location (had to pick a train then shuttle from the airport terminal) - Cars are not maintained and very dirty, they DO NOT clean them -No many vehicle selections **It was my worst car rental experience, as I frequently traveling , usually I do not face such issues from other well known rental companies

Rented car in advance. Arrived at YYZ to find out that car lot is off site. Walked about a mile and then a train. Then waited at least an hour for van to pick me up after calling several times for van and being told he was 3 minutes away each time. Very bad. Would not rent again from them.

The worst experience ever from a car rental company. It's not located at the airport. You have to take a train to Viscount then call a number to be picked up. But wait, they don't answer the phone when you call for pickup and it goes to voicemail. Had to call three tests before someone picked up. The rental is located at the Crown Plaza Hotel lobby off-site. They didn't have the car ready so I had to wait for it to be cleaned, meanwhile I'm sitting there starving. Oh did I say that when we arrived the driver didn't even bother opening the trunk of the minivan to retrieve my luggage. I had to open it myself and he didn't even offer help. Will never rent from them again.

I rented with Payless in Toronto airport and judging by the reviews posted, I wasn't confident the service would be up to scratch (even thought of cancelling a few hours before the rental!). the service was very good! had the car I requested. The car was brand new, clean. The check in and check out processes were easy and no surprises in the end. The car ended up costing less than any other place for the period I selected. Only minus point (It is difficult to get those guys over the phone when in Viscount station, you need to leave a message for the shuttle bus pick up!)

Ripped off. We wanted to rent a car for 3 hours to go downtown after a delayed flight. They quotes us $75 force day, but then said that they would update the rate to $16/hour when we returned it.we return it in less than 3 hours and they then said the system wouldn't let them update it. Just said "sorry". Then we called customer service to try to get the difference. They suggested I was lying and told me I get nothing. Nice. I'm not going to go broke over the $25, but being ripped off and then being called a liar is pretty lane. This place sucks.
