Even though I prepaid more than half of the expected price prior to pickup, I was forced to pay almost double the price!! I was turning 25 in 2 days, but they charged me the daily under 25 fee for the entire rental duration (2 weeks), meaning that for about 12 days I was paying Hertz for being under 25 while I was already 25. The staff at the counter did not seem to care about my issues and did not try to be helpful at all. They made me call the head office, where a bunch of agents kept transferring my call to the next one, and none seemed to know the solution to the problem! Outrageous. After spending about 25-30 mins on the phone with them, I was still forced to pay extra because they did not advise me how to cancel my reservation.

What a clusterfridge. I returned my car 30 minutes late because of traffic and was charged a whopping $75 for the pleasure. I get it, I was late, give me like a $10 fee per hour like other rental agencies. But $75 for 30 minutes?! The agent was able to reverse it as I stood at the counter for 15 minutes while he called superiors and begged them to waive the fee. Even he thought it was ludicrous, so at least there's that. He was nice. In fact, the in-person customer service was the only redeeming thing about the experience. And it was still kinda negative because we had to be dealing with this silly overcharge (literally 105% of my original total for the whole rental). AND. As I was renting the car, I asked how they deal with toll roads. I was told it was no problem, the car has one of those easy pass things and I'd just get a bill in the mail about it. That's normal, that's fine. OK SO I GOT THE BILL. It's a "notice of unpaid fines" that they "paid on my behalf to avoid vehicle seizure". Like, I'm not kidding, the wording on this garbage would make you think I crashed a car into a concrete wall at 120kmph and just didn't bother to return it to the agency. So I go online to pay the bill (Enterprise auto bills toll fees, by the way, in case you're looking for a competent rental agency). It's all "PAY YOUR VIOLATION". Like, get off. This wasn't a violation. And the site uses pop ups, and is stupid to navigate and feels shady. But it's legit! Hertz, you've gotta stop being a garbage place to rent from. I'm a platinum member at Enterprise, but they were sold out that day so I thought "well I'll try a different place". What a freaking mistake.

Had a great experience with Hertz at the airport. Although finishing it was a bit difficult as you are not able to drive your personal vehicle inside so I had to park and walk but other than that inconvenience, it was great. The service was awesome. There was a man who was really helpful I forgot his name but he’s a tall black man. Sooooo nice and professional! He assisted me with getting the vehicle from the lot. And on the way out at the checkpoint Hubert was very friendly as well. I’ll be back again!

This is horribly wrong GPS coordinates. This location is inside the protected area (see the RUNWAYS?) and once you get there, you realize you have a great chance of missing your flight. Multiple calls to Hertz required, and getting help from someone standing at the side of the road, to find the actual rental car return. Local Hertz at YYZ, however, was *superb*. When I told them my sad story, one of the guys who handles car returns hopped in my rental car and said he'd drive me right to the door nearest customs. I made it back into the US with seven minutes to spare. Incomparable service by the nice folks at this Canadian airport. And google maps completely sucks sewer water. App on my 'droid phone did not offer a way to tell them, either, as 'help' came up with a useless screen with no further choices; that only made me angrier :-(

I had a rental and call to check the costs of a extension of my rental. well not only they charge me 3 others days (and I call for a quote) and not only made me pay overlimit but also only would return the extra charge once I returne the car. means I had less $300 in my budget to use because a they can charge the cost Omer and can hold that money and there's nothing u can do. thank you Hertz for an excelente customer service and for useless employees

We had unexpected problem, because the name on the credit card (my) and on the driving licence (my husband’s) did not match and rental companies were not able to rent us a car (we were in Carribean and they did not have a problem with this...). They don't honour guaranteed upgrades and fill the lot with compact and midsize SUVs. Other cars are available, but they play the paid upgrade game (with ridiculous upcharges) instead of giving the loyal customer what they're supposed to get. You rented a sedan ? Too bad, so sad.

Overall pretty horrible experience. When picking up the car, at the booth they just told me to pick whatever car in a certain row, the key was left in the ignition. No check's whatsoever if the car was in a decent state, I guess as a customer they expect you to be diligent, do a walk around before you actually drive away. Not that it was busy too as it was Saturday just after 9 am and no other customers when I went for the pick-up. The car return was even a worse experience. Was just told to leave the car behind as there was quite a line-up of people returning their car. Did a walk around with the clerk, everything looked good. Only to get a call back 30 minutes later that they found damage somewhere in plain sight above the left front wheel.. Guess when we did the checks of the car, both myself as the person handling the car return missed the obvious damage. Tried to mediate with their claims department but they just sent the claim to a collection agency without ever replying back. TLDR: Very low customer service, if you decide to rent a car, make sure to take pictures of the entire car before & after you use the car. Definitely not the experience you expect from a company like Hertz. There's budget options out there that offer better service.

I use Hertz because that’s the only company that the company I work for pays for. I agree with most reviewers. Hertz service cannot get any worse than this. Long line ups, staff have no clue why my name is not on board and it just gets worse from there.

I was charged more than I agreed to pay. When I asked why they kindly showed me a summary of several fees. When I asked why it's more than the price on the rental contract, they told me the fees were valid. I asked for an explanation. I was told the fees were valid. No reason as to the discrepancy or what the fees actually were. But I guess saying the fees are valid justifies anything for them. For a long time it was like talking to a broken robot (on Twitter). Eventually I called, was told I'd get the refund. Ended up getting about half. I suspect they just charge whatever, then frustrate people until they give up. Anyway, wouldn't recommend Hertz.

Only when I asked what I should pay almost 100CAD, there was an explanation. She wanted me to call ADAC in Germany to make sure I had full insurance. Only when I emphatically stated that I covered ALL the necessary insurance in Germany and I would like to wait another half hour, she has canceled the amount. The car itself was not cleaned and full of scratches. The employee showed me the car and then quickly disappeared. There was no explanation about the car. I photographed all the scratches from the outside and the condition of the car from the inside, if in hindsight something should come and written to ADAC Germany on the same day. I'm curious if anything else will come. (Original) Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr unprofessionell. Wollte mir die halbe Stunde früher berechnen ohne Ansage und zudem einfach eine Zusatzversicherung gebucht. Erst als ich nachfragte, wozu ich fast 100CAD bezahlen soll, gab es eine Erklärung. Sie wollte, dass ich ADAC in Deutschland anrufe, um sicher zu gehen, dass ich auch Vollkasko hab. Erst als ich mit Nachdruck erklärt habe, dass ich ALLE nötigen Versicherungen in Deutschland abgedeckt habe und ich gerne noch eine halbe Stunde warten kann, hat sie den Betrag storniert. Das Auto selbst war nicht gereinigt und voller Kratzer. Der Mitarbeiter hat mir auf das Auto gezeigt und war dann auch schnell verschwunden. Es gab keine Erklärung zum Auto. Ich habe alle Kratzer von aussen sowie den Zustand des Wagens von innen fotografiert, falls im Nachhinein was kommen sollte und noch am selben Tag an ADAC Deutschland geschrieben. Bin gespannt, ob noch was kommt.

Hertz is the best among car rental companies. I dont have to argue with them about insurance because my company covers it. Dont have to let let them know im going to fill up the gas myself. Picking up a car takes less than 3 minutes. Dropping it off the same. I wish the other rental companies would catch up.

Don't even think of using this location. Although the estimation was around $600, I was charged over $1,000. I closely read through the statement and noticed that the only options that I added were $150. The rest of $250, I have no idea how and why charged nor there were no explanation at all. I know that there are some "surprise" fees may be charged but I don't think 25% more charge is appropriate. Also, the car was not really clean. In the minivan I rented had some muds and leftover of snack or something on the floor.

Recently I have an experience with other car rental in the same place, no security deposits, no hidden charges and very cheap and convenient. Sad to say that with hertz my experience was really bad. They charged 1000$ in advance saying that it's a security and will be returned after u deliver the car. After delivery I waited for one month but the money was never refunded....

I rented a vehicle here. Upgraded the car to a mini van. Told the upgrade would be $25 per day. I agreed. Charges on my credit card reflect double that. Not only mini van smelled bad but service very unprofessional. A week after returning the vehicle I get call saying that the van had scratches. Luckily I had taken pics and videos of the vehicle and also marking the scratches on the inspection paper before driving away. I made the mistake of not reading reviews before deciding. These 1 star reviews all sound legitimate. Not only they charged me double but tried to blame us for pre existing scratches with no supporting evidence but sent us to a collections agency (crooks) I fly to Toronto often and I always rent vehicles and almost all have been great. You will never get me business again. I will avoid hertz at any cost. Buyers beware! (For people reading this. Please make sure you have detailed records of any issues before driving away. Or you will end up paying these thieves.) Update Dec 12 2019. After a long 1 year stressful battle with this crook organization we were able show that these damages were fabricated and pre existing. They were looking for a donkey to pin it on and they found one in the mirror. This is unethical and terrible business practice.

probably would give 2 1/2 stars. the guys out in the garage were super friendly and helpful; not so much at the counter. the lady was quite rude it seemed. also, I booked here because the deal seemed reasonable as it was prepaid. when I arrived to pick up the car, lo and behold, they wanted to charge my card an additional 80$ for taxes etc. this is the most expensive rental ever. 80$ per day for a sub compact car. next time I will fly to Buffalo and drive across the border. Prices are more down to earth there.

Hertz car service is the most non professional car service ever experienced. I have rented cars at all major airports around the world but this one was at a different level. There’s no phone number to reach them and the one with automated voice sucks to the core! Imagine they have the audacity to announce that there will be “5% call centre surcharge on your total rental bill”. The junk they provided me (Mazda CX5), the remote battery doesn’t work so it’s a mission to start the car and get in the car & if that’s not enough the car heating system doesn’t come into play until you’ve driven over 10km, & that too in Canadian weather which is usually negative -8-10. If Google had zero or negative stars for the overall experience I would have probably given that. Not recommended at all! Stay away from these guys.

This is the first time I rented a car at The Hertz company (@Toronto Pearson Airport) and I am disappointed and regretful about renting a car here. They did not give us any information regarding the consequences and the billing charges if we were planning to extend the car for a few hours when we did inform them that we might. The receptionist told us that they will be open and that we can just call them for additional information regarding extending the rental time of the car. On the day we were trying to reach them, we could not reach them and I kept getting passed over to different department. I asked the customer service to give me some kind of rate per hour but she was unable to provide me any but instead offered to email the company to inform them that we might extend the car for another day. We were 3hours late from the returned time of the car and went to drop it off. We were charged another day extra (with all the additional charges - additional driver, car insurance). I complained about being charged for another day when I returned it just 3hrs late and they told me that i had only 30min grace period (when I called the customer service). I do not mind paying extra for those few hours but charging me for another day plus my other things I put with the car?! That is ridiculus. The issue is nobody told me about this 30min grace period. When I asked for further information, they did not give me any and then when I get the bill and complain about it, they give me excuses and things like "we could not do anything about it." They could atleast told me right before I got the car about these extra charges but they didnt. They knew that I might extend the car but they didnt give me information about it. All I got was "just give us a call." Which I wasnt even able to do because I COULD NOT REACH THEM. Next time, provide information about the things the customer is asking about. Do not just say "just give us a call.." If you do say "give us a call," make sure you are reachable... FYI, I tried calling them a few times for an hour or so hoping that I can reach them but no luck...

Just had one of the worst customer service experiences. I rented my car online, was supposed to pick it up at 9am, got there early just to be told that a debit card would not work. No problem, my buddy who was with me had a a credit card and was ready to foot the bill. Turns out that if you're using someone else's credit card, they have to change the name on the reservation, by calling the customer service but of course they won't call for you, they will just wait behind their desk and look at you jump through those hoops when they could have easily done it. Once that's done if you get too much bs (there's no longer any car available...) you will find out that the primary driver has changed and you have to pay extra to put the original driver back on the contract. Finally after spending close to 1h just to get that car the employee will let you go but not before reminding you that if you return the car late (even barely) you will find yourself having to pay extreme fees. Thanks you Hertz, but I won't be needing your services in the future.

Prices are usually a bit cheaper than the others at Pearson. However don't expect anything you reserved to be actually be there. I always try to reserve a compact to save gas, and they always try to upgrade me to a SUV or family van. Constantly reminded of the Seinfeld episode of the same fate..

Don’t hire a car from Hertz! Customer service was poor. I returned a vehicle, they inspected it and said it was ok. A week later I got an email from their debt collection agency saying I damaged it, but could only provide photos days and miles after I rented it. To make it worse, they wanted 500 CAD when the repair bill was only 250 CAD. This company is not worth the hassle!

I'd like to recommend the Hertz station at Terminal 3, Toronto Pearson International. When I came there four weeks ago, a very friendly lady (I think her name was „Nerissa“ or the like) handled my reservation and provided me a free upgrade due to showing my Hertz Presidents Circle card. I could choose whichever car I wanted to without any extra charge! I took a white Dodge Durango GT, which had a very nice configuration and which came in handy the next four weeks. Also the return of the car was very uncomplicated. Handing over the keys, getting a return receipt, done! Thank you again Hertz in YYZ Terminal 3 and in special thank you Nerissa! Alsow the Social Media Service provided by Hertz on Facebook is extremely fast. Thanks for your help!

Rented a SUV from here for the weekend. Customer service was amazing . The man who served me was very fast and efficient. The car was so nice, drove so smooth. Fell and hurt my back recently. So the heated seats , bottom and back was amazing. Really helped with the pain. We were able to fit the 7 of us comfortably also all our baggage . Check out was also just as efficient. The guy was sitting near the returns. He wrote me a quick copy and I was on my way. Sad to have to give it back. I will definitely be back for another car. Great job guys.

The worst car rental I experienced for the last ten years.. Manager of hertz and thrifty(it is one manager for both companies) was unprofessional and lacks knowledge of other provinces driving licence levels.. I’m sure he was denying me the car I booked so he can rent it with a higher fare and in this process he missed up my vacation and cost me more money.. Bottom line next day I rented another car from the same provider through Expedia and got my vacation on track again.. hertz management should up there standards and find a better manager for the YYZ branch… this situation happened on Thursday 19 of August at 6pm if management want to find out who was this guy, if they care about their image and customers…

Everything was fine except I booked for an economy car to save gas for a 350km trip, but was upgraded to an SUV with no other option. So I had to spend about $60 for gas instead of $35. Also for people complaining about being charged extra, they charge your credit card an extra $200 on top of the cost of your reservation for a deposit, which is not returned until a couple later after you return the vehicle. Hertz, along with Enterprise, charge the least for deposit in comparison to Budget/Avis ($350) and Practicar ($500).

Use Hertz for work multiple times a month. Always have to wait >1 hour for the car to be cleaned and ready, even though I had a reservation booked well in advanced. The rentals are decent quality but waiting everytime at every location I've been too across Canada is a bad trend company wide.

This was by far the worst experience I have ever had when renting from a car rental. This was my first time renting from Hertz and my last. Nor will I ever refer any clients, friends or family to this company. I was told, when signing to rent a car for the weekend, that I could sign up for the gas tank to be refilled by Hertz at a rate of 1.02 a litre ( which makes sense that I would sign with that rate), once the vehicle was returned. I followed up with 3 different people regarding this service before leaving and they all said I was fine and would receive that service once the car returned. Not to mention the individual that received the car was very rude and ignorant to the situation. The company ended up charging me 3.69 a litre. Very unprofessional and unpleasant experience; some of the employees working there had no idea on what they were doing. I would rather rent from Avis or Enterprise, pay extra money but receive the service I pay for.

i rented 7 seater car on Long-weekend, Car was excellent, their car pick up & drop off service is good but after sale service is terrible, i was charged roughly 110$ ( they took around 380$) as a deposit and rest of my deposit amount about 260$ is missing.. even after 11 days.. i have tried calling them 20 times after which i was able to connect with representative and she told the same thing wait for another 10-15 days.. why ?? .. why should i wait for my own money.. it’s pathetic and terrible.. will thinks twice before renting car from Hertz in future.

Rented a midsize SUV from Hertz for a week and just dropped it off before flying home a few days ago. Our experience here was great, nothing unexpected except the efficiency of service and the better-than-expected condition of our rental vehicle. The convenience of using a rental agency that is actually at the airport cannot be overstated, especially when traveling with small kids. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation stated and expected a wait, but we had absolutely no wait at any point. Got a very new car in great condition. No walk around with an employee, though it was unnecessary anyways since there was no damage or dings to remark upon. We dropped the car back a few days ago with a full tank of gas. Drop off was super easy. Still waiting on my email receipt and may have to call and track it down. But my credit card shows no unexpected charges and no sign of the $200 deposit, so I'm guessing it was released. Will update this review if anything unexpected comes from it. My only complaint with Hertz is their price point, though it is admittedly on par with other rental agencies in the same location. But we mitigated this by booking through Hotwire. We still got the same level of service from Hertz for about 40% of the price we would have gotten booking through their website instead. All we knew before booking was that it was a big name brand located in the terminal, so that was good enough for us. Hertz did not disappoint, these guys are real pros operating an efficient service. It's just too bad they can't offer even a similar price through their own site (even to rewards members) as they can with third party services like Hotwire. It's the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.

I am President Circle on Hertz.. and I rate this Hertz at Toronto airport (terminal 3). Once there was a huge line and lost 15 min to checkout. Other time there was NO CARS. Had to wait 15 or 20 minutes to get a medium size ( I have the right to full size at least). I had this issue again few weeks ago! No Cars! I wish I could use other company like National there., This Hertz is the worse I have seen in North America. I rent Hertz car EVERY WEEK. Avoid if possible. See the space empty with no cars in the photo!

Edit: changed from 4 stars to 2 stars as my last few visits have been pretty poor. Rented a Hybrid the past few times to save on gas for long trips and staff mentioned they rarely have Hybrids and I could take a Corolla. Why would I accept a higher rate for a car class lower, and a car that would cost me more in gas? Also on multiple occasions the checkout booth staff has been caught automatically applying the prepaid fill up for gas (without asking), when I do not have this selected on my member profile. Check your invoice before driving off as it's a pain to reach anyone over the phone or fix details when dropping the vehicle back off. Original - Convenient location with great rates, despite having the premium surcharge. Staff at Gold Member desk have always been friendly. Would like to see more car options in the 5 star and Gold lots. I've been to many other airports that had many more options in Ultimate Choice, and if they did not offer the service, I was usually upgraded to a car much better than the Pearson location ever stocks their 5 star lots with. Terminal 1 is slightly better than terminal 3, but both room for improvement.

I had a very smooth trouble free rental. The check-in was quick and we were on our way in about 15 minutes (it was a Sunday afternoon so not busy). Got no hassles or pressure to get extra insurance (I have it through my credit card). Return was also fast ... the lot staffer met us as we drove in, gave the car a once over and we had paperwork in about 5 minutes.

This has to be the worst car rental company and location that I have ever experienced. I had a confirmed reservation at the Toronto Airport Hertz location. When I got there at 1am, it was the only counter that was closed amongst all the other car rental companies. I phoned their number and got somebody in Manilla, Phillipines!!. She promised that someone would call me first thing the next morning. Nobody called me until noon. When I called back at the airport location, I was once again connected to someone in Manilla who once again promised me that someone would call me. I never got my refund or my car. What a joke. The place should be investigated and shut down. I will be speaking to the BBB about them and the Toronto Airport Authority.

Received a rental from HERTZ through Hotwire. The vehicle itself was okay, not in the best condition, had several tape marks on the doors and some obvious wear, and the brakes were worn. While returning the vehicle I talked to the guy inspecting the car to make sure there was no issues. Luckily I took photos... After dropping off my rental car I received a phone call from their manager Derick claiming that I returned the vehicle damaged, he wouldn't explain what the charges were for, and I even told him that I had proof that it wasn't damaged. I used Hotwire to make my booking but it's not worth the risk getting stuck with HERTZ. Also be aware the same manager runs DOLLAR and THRIFTY car rentals. I do not recommend them. TLDR: Take photos before and after of your vehicle, they will try to commit fraud and claim that you damaged the vehicle. Update: it's been about 9 months after this visit and I have received several phone calls bordering on harassment. I have had this issue resolved by contacting their head office, and they have waived any claimed damages. While this is the obvious solution, I still don't recommend this location. To my knowledge the same people still work there. Hope this helps.

Price was right, vehicle was right, paperwork right. But, boy were they wrong when they said it was so ready to go. It's not easy nor fast to find someone at 1100pm to let them know that the keys are infact, not in the ignition. After looking the Jeep over for 15 minutes, so as to not look like an imbecile, it took another 20 minutes to coral the correct car jockey. And at 1140pm, coast to coast flying... Not fun. That being said. It was the only stumbling block. Return was fine. No funky extras charged when I got home. Maybe it should be a four, meh.

The Dodge Caravan we rented was practically new which was great and drove well. Would definitely consider renting from Hertz again if the price is right.

It wasn't the busiest of times when I rented my vehicle, but unlike Hertz (YYZ) some other rental agencies e.g Alamo instead of streamlining the process make it more cumbersome. I love Hertz's "Ultimate Choice" service that is available at this location. Good selection of cars although would like to see more variety in the full size segment. Optima which I chose was a good car to drive, pairing my device with the car was simple and intuitive, plenty of power, solid grip on the highway and comfortable with lots of room for passengers and luggage. Nice looking too. I wouldn't hesitate to rent it again. The car was clean without any unpleasant odors inside. Plenty of windshield fluid, properly inflated tires. All the ground attendants were polite and helpful. At the return I was quickly taken care of so I didn't loose any time and wasn't worried about running late. Thank you.

Arrived an hour earlier and as a gold member my name was not on the board. Went to the counter and was told there was a glitch in the system. Then I had to wait half hour extra since I would get charged an extra day if I picked the car 1 hour before. The employee said he can't do anything about it since its system related. On previous occasions, I have received cars 45 min. prior with no issues. I have been a gold member for approx 3 years and sitting outside for half an hour. There is no "thinking outside the box" by employees. Doesn't anyone greet a client with a smile in this complex? 45 minutes later, I spoke with the Manager and the best she could do was tell the exit booth not to charge the extra day if I return the car late...and I left Avis for this?

Hands down one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a rental company. When I made the reservation for a compact SUV for 7 days the price was sitting at a respectable $450, by the tome my father had picked up the car (as I was working) the agreement was up to $811 for the 7 days. While this was frustrating, it had been a long day so we took off. Midway through the trip we looked to extend the rental over the weekend. When we called the 1-800 they could not find our rental agreement, when we called the airport they did not answer. I was told by the main number to simply return after the weekend. By the time all was said and done - 11 days with Hertz cost over $1300. Be advised that this location also charges a “PLC Fee” of 17% which I was told pays their lease to the airport... so everything they quote on their website is 17% more expensive than quoted. Also, the manager and the staff were all working indoors without masks in an airport during a pandemic. Terrible service. Non-transparent. Public health code violations. It’s pretty obvious Hertz doesn’t care about their clientele and are just in it for a quick buck. Enterprise counter is 5 to the right, maybe go check them out?

I had a very bad experience with this place. I rented a car through hotwire. I realized after I drove off with the vehicle that it was from another province 5000 km away, meaning it had been brought from that province and returned here. There was a constant burning smell in the car. The engine was either burning oil or maybe it had a transmission problem. I was suppose to return the car the next morning 8am but due to an emergency I got late by a few hours. I spoke to the manager named Tony and asked him nicely to not charge me the late fee and told him about the burning smell. He was not nice. He spoke to me as if I was lying about the smell and about my emergency and acted as if he couldnt do anything about it. He insisted that I should just keep the car for one more day since I had to pay an extra day charges plus additional fee anyway. I returned it on the spot and they charged me for a full day plus the late fee. It was a Monday and I could have easily rented a fresh car for one day for less than what I paid to hotwire for the original rental. So these guys charged me 1.3 times the payment I made to hotwire. So I ended up paying more for these few hours on a weekday than what I paid for the 24 hours on a weekend. I will not book with hotwire again and I will not rent from Hertz. With hotwire you dont know which rental agency you are getting the car from until you book and make your payment. I guess customer service only applies to supermarkets and department stores etc where you actually buy a physical prodict. With services like rental agencies, a customer is just a rip off opportunity.

Worst experience I've ever had with a rental company. I've rented from Enterprise mainly and usually used Avis when they didn't have vehicles available. Never had one problem. My unlucky day came when both Avis and Enterprise were out of cars and I decided to give Hertz a try. The service representative was very polite and helpful. However when I tried to exit out of the checkout gate, the employee at the checkout gate rudely told my 2nd drive to get out of the car. We explained to him that we have him listed as 2nd driver, that we paid $100 to list him as 2nd driver and that his tone was very insulting. He doesn't apologize, then basically throws the paper where you mark down the vehicle damage at me, and ignores me when asking for his help (Enterprise has an employee walk around the vehicle and they mark down the damage so this was new protocol to me). He even threatened to call the manage on me...a customer. Finally I just mark down the damage as best as I can and leave. When returning the vehicle, this same employee tells my 2nd driver to park the car and that they don't give receipts when returning vehicles (also new protocol to me). Two days late I check my credit card and I had been charged $228 over the final price on the contract. When I inquired about the extra charges they told me, we returned the car 4 hours late and that we returned the car with only half a tank. When I tried to dispute it, the employee on the phone told me he'd call me back. He didn't call me and they didn't pick up any of the 20 calls I placed in the next 3 days. I finally walked into the location and a manager by the name of Roel Clark "assisted" me with my problem. He listened to me for about 3 mins and then took down my number and said he'd call me within 3 days after he's done his "investigation". I told him specifically that I wanted video evidence of when the car was returned to the lot. Long story short, he didn't call me back even after I called him multiple times and left multiple messages. I finally left a message that I'd be calling corporate to handle the problem if I didn't hear from him within the week. He calls me back an hour late and tells me "Word to the wise, if you want my help you won't threaten me and show me respect". Basically he was telling me that if I wanted my money back that I wouldn't contact corporate and that I'd have to kiss his behind in order for him to do his job. Made me feel like I was in elementary school with a bully who's bullying me and basically telling me not to tell the teacher. The bad experience I had here might be an isolated incident for Hertz locations, but this one location ruined the reputation of the company for me AND I WILL NEVER GIVE A CENT OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO HERTZ EVER AGAIN.

Hertz customer service is a joke. They have cut staff and struggle with operations. They can’t give a customer a receipt upon a rental return. They bill for tolls and then cannot supply a copy of the invoice. Makes it pretty hard to expense these charges when you don’t get copies. Hertz needs to step it up or close the doors for good. Treating customers this way is not good for business. I’ve been loyal to Hertz for decades but this now has me searching for another rental company.

Asked for an XC90, got a Tahoe instead as a "premium/luxury" vehicle. Did not drive like a vehicle belonging to that class. Went to return it as it was not up to the standard we expected. Upon returning it, we saw a Volvo XC90 drive in, which we were able to get. Hertz will not allow us to book a vehicle like the XC90 ahead of time, they say it's only at the counter and if there are vehicles like that available. We also have to drive to the airport as Hertz does not keep vehicles like this at other locations nor can you request it at other locations ahead of time. Just checking online I was able to find an enterprise near me with actual luxury vehicles (not like a Tahoe) available and for a better rate than Hertz even though we are Five star members with Hertz. Their Staff was friendly and helpful however Hertz policy for anyone requesting a luxury vehicle is poor.

I recently tried to rent a car from Hertz. I had booked it over a month in advance. They gave me what I thought was a reasonable rate. When I went to pick up my car, (which I had booked for 6:00m on August 21st), I arrived just before 6:00. I was at the front desk and the lady was putting all the information in the computer, when she suddenly said, oh are system wants to verify your drivers license and it will cost you $1.99. This of course is so wrong. Why do I have to pay extra because your system wants to verify my license. I had never seen that before. Anyway I had no choice but to do that. Then she tells me, oh our system can't verify your license. I said, well there must be some mistake. Anyway she tries a few times, and then tells me, I'm sorry I can't rent you a car. I'm on holidays with my family far away from home, with no hotel booked as we were driving over an hour away to get to the hotel, and she can't verify my license? She said sorry nothing I can do. So I asked to speak with a manager. Of course there is no one there. So she texts the manager and they don't respond. It is now 6:40pm and she says, well Budget and Avis are just across the hall, see if they have a car. So I'm left with no choice but to try them. They have 1 car available that is a mini car. A Nissan Micra, for a family. Of course there cost being last minute is $300.00 more for the 8 days than Hertz was supposed to be. I go back to Hertz for one last attempt and she blows me off. No manager has called back, nothing. Didn't care that I was going to be stranded in a place with no place to stay and having my kids with me. I tried the Hertz 1-800 customer service and they wouldn't help me. If I could give 0 starts I would. This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had with a rental company. Stay away from HERTZ!!!! I have tried calling them after my vacation to speak with a manager, and they won't put me through to one. They just take my information and say they will call back. They never have. I am also part of a large professional organization that has discounts with Hertz. I will be putting in a complaint to them, and hopefully they will stop their partnership with them as well, as this is unacceptable. Oh by the way, Budget and Avis, took my license and confirmed it was valid within 10 seconds, but Hertz couldn't. Just save your self the heart ache and the risk of being left stranded. Stay away!

The Never get lost feature they advertise mounted on your dash should have read "You will get lost". The system never worked causing me to go miles out of my way. The customers service reps after I complained before leaving the terminal simply tokd me to drive and the system will come on. All i got was a blank screen and total frustration. I dont think they knew how to work it either. Upon stopping and trying to reactivate it it asked me for a code which i had no idea what that was. The staff need to be trained better.

After having a little trouble with the rental they gave me , I spoke with a manager and in no time he sent out a new (brand new) rental and made every attempt to meet my rental needs. I've been renting over 2 years and Hertz always has your back. Unfortunately my experience with Hertz has been the worst customer service I have ever experienced in any business application. I was in Toronto for a family matter. Upon arrival hertz was the only company to have a rental car and since I was not in the mood to take the train to my sister's house I took a rental from Hertz. I should have saved myself the grief as they supplied me with a car with lube stains all or the driver's seat. Of course since the garage is dark and if you are taking the car at 7 am after taking a red eye flight this would be easy not to easily identify. after I arrived at my sister's I realized this and felt this was unsatisfactory and tried to call the company and the local office. GOOD LUCK to anyone trying to call in and get customer service. Customer service was probably not one of the key areas of focus when it came to making the business model here. Needless to say, since contact via phone was not possible I drove the car in personally. After explaining the situation they tried to pin the seat stains on me luckily a manager got involved and they where nice enough to switch my vehicle to a car with multiple locations of superficial damage and at this point I realized what a mistake I made but since my sister was expecting her baby any day I just wanted to focus on my family obligations. Upon returning the vehicle I was running late and I must have forgotten two pairs of running shoes in the vehicle. AWESOME as yet again I get to start the game of snakes and ladders and or deal with a game of phone tag or a version of MARCO polo solo style. I am extremely unsatisfied with the lack of care and I will use this experience to ensure I never treat any of my customers like this.... HERTZ SO GOOD.... COME ON BABY MAKE IT HERTZ SO GOOD!

I declined insurance and didn't realize they charged me until I got the credit card statement. The hertz team at the airport were helpful and kind. The hertz help line on the phone was a bloody disaster. Had to extend my rental twice. Both times I phoned the extension number line to extend, and I swear my 2 year old can do better job. All they told me is I couldn't extend over the phone, that I needed to drive all the way to the place I rented my car to extend the contract. They refused to give out the district number where I rented the car too. Why? I have no clue. They were absolutely horrible and ignorant. If you do rent car from hertz just make sure you get a business card from the place that you rent from because if you have any issues you probably gonna want to hang yourself dealing with the incompetent people over the helpline.

Avoid this location at all costs (both terminals). If it weren't for work requirements, I would have never continued to rent from them. Consistent issues with billing (sometimes being billed for vehicles I did not rent). They never answer their phone (the main Hertz line can't even get through to them). They have a very subpar collection of upgrades for Presidents' Circle members. Staff members (save for 2 that I encountered in two years of renting from them) are rude and unhelpful. Will try to tell you that a vehicle has winter tires on it and charge you for the tires when it physically does not have winter tires on it. And so on and so on.

Currently a National Executive Elite, was looking to try out Hertz this year. Booked a SUV for the weekend. Rear seat floor and seats had dried ketchup all over. The car was a mess inside. Steering wheel was permanently crooked on this car. In order to drive straight you had to keep the wheel tilted to the right. Three-time I rented this at this location, I would like to say each time I received faster service, excellent condition vehicle and a couple of times nice upgrade. After a long flight, as the Gold member, I get quick car collection rather than stay in the queue. On my last rental, The second day I noticed that fuel tank was only half and it was supposed to be full and no way it has burned because I drove only 30miles. I called the customer service, and them advise to talk to the office when we return the vehicle. I followed their instruction and agent at the counter called the manager to confirm few things and reset the fuel. The whole process took 15 mins, and everything went smoothly. I had the option to rent a car from another company with way cheaper rate. But I decided to go with Hertz because they are " Hertz"! The first car that they gave me had a major problem with brake! I asked to change it and in return, they gave me an old Kia Rio that had no apple car play. That was really tough to navigate with a car that has no apple car play. I wouldn't recommend Hertz to anyone else. As a rental company, they should rent new cars to the costumers not the car that are for 4-5 years ago.

Literally the best rental car location in the world. I rent cars by the month so i am a heavy (12k a year approx) user which might affect my service but i mean from day 1 i was treated amazingly. Don't listen to the others theres never a shortage of cars they have at least 100 on the lot but i guess i do come at night it might be different in the day. Both managers and the assistant manager are extremely helpful along with all the staff. Cars are nice and cleaner than i could keep a car. But get gold service i think it makes a difference. But overall completely satisfied.

I will share my experiences in parts. Pick up and Return. Pick up. November 4th. I booked the vehicle online and the price quite cheaper than the rivals. Honestly, I was an Enterprise Car Rental customer for years. I decided to try Hertz for my stay in Toronto. On arrival for pickup the customer service reminded me that my pick time was not due but he went ahead and gave me a vehicle without additional cost. What amazed and delighted me was the vehicle options I was asked to choose. I was expecting to have a full size car, which I booked, I was given the option of mid size SUV at no additional cost. Very happy about it. Vehicle Return was seamless and easy. But I had little problem when I arrived at the location because they opened 6:00am. I got to the location before 6am. I spent another 10 minutes waiting after they opened before I got checked out. Overall, this Hertz Rental Location is very good and I recommend this to anyone visiting Toronto.

I get it he was with other customers, but we just had 1 question and the customer even said go a head its just a question i dont mind. We said thank you to her. Booked a SUV because I was in town for work and had to visit a site during winter months and the roads are unfamiliar. It was like that one Seinfeld episode, when I showed up at the reserve time to pick up my vehicle there wasn't one to be had. They made me stand in a cold parking garage and wait, I was in a hurry to meet a client so I had to settle for a compact so I could get the hell out of there and do my job. Horrible experience We got to the counter at Pearson and the agent told us our booking was cancelled. No further help was offered. We then called hertz who re-did the booking via the phone, despite standing in the physical Hertz counter. This took over an hour. The original car insurance I had purchased wasn’t valid under a new booking so we had to pay for really expensive insurance at the counter, more than the cost of the car in the end. The car that we received didn’t have a full tank, had broken mirror adjusters and started shaking when going faster than 100km/h. All in all the worst customer experience I have ever had, the worst car I ever received as a rental, and also the most expensive car I have ever had to rent. And all of this through no fault of our own.

We booked a rental car from Pearson Airport for 10 days to travel to cottage country. We traveled north on airport road . Never once going onto the 407 Toll road. 2 months after we got back we received a notice that we had been on the 407 toll road for a total of $7.00, they charged us $21.00... Despite providing the company with proof and pictures that we were 2 hours away from the toll road on the day of the charge .Hertz refused to listen and charged us anyway. They stated they would call us from their claims department.. that never happened. This is a scam. I'm not sure how a company can charge for something that never happened. And then ignore their customers when an issue is brought forward. They may be cheaper but be very cautious

If you are Gold Rewards member, never expect them to get you at least a standard car size. Most of the time their parking lot is out of cars, and if you will ask for an upgrade. Front desk personnel is careless. So far worst experience out of all Hertz location including US.

If there rating for zero i would give this location I would. I had an accident with one of their rented car. The required information for all given to there customer service and road side assistance team. For last 3 weeks these guy have not read any documents and harassing me that the rental car is not returned yet. It seems like the no one is looking at the system and doing half of their jobs. Very Very disappointing. NEVER GOING RENT FROM HERTZ CANADA.

Hertz used to be the largest and most reliable rental agency. No more! Customer service is horrible. You can’t get hold of the branch by phone, when you want to speak with an agent. When you leave a message with the manager, no one returns your call. The main 800 number answers in Philippine with thick accent and unable to modify your reservation. I suggest to avoid them at all costs.

This is a fraudulent excuse for a business. We had rented a car from July 23 to July 29 for a trip to Canada. We had booked and paid for a Chevy Impala or larger (class G). We have two car seats. When we got there, they claimed to only have a Hyndai (i.e. a class C). At 1:30 AM, we had no other option but take it. They claim to be open 24 hours, but when we returned it at 3:00 AM in the morning on the 29th there was no one but a guard. We left it on the lot and got home. Well, first we get a message on the voicemail claiming the car was damaged! I called back and said what damage. We then got a letter a week letter claiming that it was not yet returned! When we called back, they marked it returned on August 6 and have been asking me for the additional week's payment. Our credit card company, Chase, accepted the evidence of us having returned to the US on the 29th with the airline receipt, and so we have not lost money. But just the aggravation and the dishonesty is terrible. JUST STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Quoted me one price and then charged my credit card over $100 more. It's all in hidden fees that they don't share with you when you reserve online - rather, they hand you paperwork to sign at the counter, once you're in a hurry to be on your way, and that's where they're buried. Air conditioning fee, energy usage fee, fee for impossibly expensive gas if you don't leave the tank completely full. All absent in the "taxes and fees" portion of your quote. You can't even contest the charge because they get your signature, with your liabilities listed wherever you're least likely to look. A classic racket.

Upon returning, their agent said all of their portable receipt device were broken and couldn't print out receipts. I was told the receipt will be sent via email within 5 mins and this agent even asked me to confirm my email address. After check-in at terminal, I still didn't get any receipt. Have to go back and request a receipt at the counter. Enterprise will send out receipt within minute through email and Hertz is still struggling with their broken machine?

Pick up car and no instructions have to figure out on the fly. Pick up at one terminal and drop off at the other. On phone for 20 min to try and change but got no where but transfer after transfer.

I was a little intimidated after reading the reviews on here. But in the end I hand a flawless experience. The car was in perfect shape, the people were all nice and helpful and the price for an under 25 renter was comparatively good (also no hidden charges whatsoever). Nothing to complain here.

worst experience I've had with a rental company. I usually go with thrifty but hertz were a bit cheaper which I was trying to save money. anyways when we got there, right away they were straight rude. and even before we can ask why they charged us 200 dollars they didnt want to help us. it didnt say in the contract that they would charge that amount. and when I asked is there anything else I can do they had no solutions. they basically kicked us out. we ended up scrambling for a rental car for 5 hours...since everything else was booked. please state it In your contract so we can better prepare for it.. oh and re-train your employees. they obviously have no customer service experience.

Terrible experiece, Dear Hertz, I had a booking with this company for a Toyota Camry from Toronto Pearson International Airport Location and was given a free upgrade to Dodge Minivan. The booking charge at the time was 76.56 CAD at the time of booking and 36.14 CAD at the counter with a total of 112.70 CAD.Now while checking my credit card statement I realized that they have charged me 76.56 CAD + 230.40CAD totals 306.96 CAD which is triple the amount of the actual Booking. I tried to contact the customer service and the lady over the phone was rude and put the phone down on me.....

One of the worst Hertz Tenta location I have ever been to. Staff are “busy” as one have to wait for 30 minutes to have one staff show up in the middle of the day. Their vehicles have expired license plates/registrations - terrible. The vehicle rented was uncleaned - inside and out. Definitely not of Hertz standard.
