Hussain went above and beyond in customer service. He accommodated my needs and was friendly and professional. In stark contrast to the nearby other car rental who were extremely rude and unprofessional to the point where I had to leave without my booked rental car! The only challenge with Independent was having to wait over a half hour for someone to arrive after phoning in from the rental location as no one was at the desk. But this is a staffing issue and not the fault of Hussain. I would highly recommend this company based on Hussain’s excellent service and will return again!

We rented a car for the long weekend. Using the website was very easy and booking a car done with a few clicks. We checked other options, but those were either more expensive or required to pick the car up from either the airport or some other more remote place. Independent Rent A Car is located in downtown, close to our office, has amazing prices, good service and great cars. It is easy to recommend such a place and we like to thank especially Hussain for an amazing customer service experience.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Booked a car 6 weeks ago then the night before they canceled my reservation. Talked to them a few times to sort it out and they said they would get back to me and they never did, said they were going to email me and they never did. Great way to run a business, guessing being honest and doing what you said you would do is not part of how they operate.These guys are scammers, go anywhere but here. Hope you go out of business soon! Everything said below is a lie. You never offered a car for 11 and you also said you did not have a car on Thursday. Stop lying. You say you record your calls, then let’s listen. Being‘unprofessional’ should be your motto or how about ‘We lie about everything’ . You didn’t meet your obligations and are now trying to cover up by saying anything. By the way we rented a boat instead and it was amazing. When we talked to the people taking out another boat they said they heard the same issues from their friends and that is why they wouldn’t rent from you. Once again, your inability to meet your contracts with people will lead to your downfall. Saying you are a small company does not expunge you from your responsibilities to people who book with you. For me, it was a blessing in disguise, but for others they may not be able to pivot and it is incumbent on you to meet their needs. Try harder and be honest or lie, deceive and live with the consequences of giving sub par service. Remember for every bad review on average there are 27 other people who feel the same. Feel free to google those stats.

Independent Rent A Car was so great to rent from. I was looking for a rental with snow tires and the big companies either didn't have the option or were out of cars. With this company, not only did they have cars with snow tires, they helped me when I had mistakenly rented a car without snow tires. With no fuss, they fixed the problem (and upgraded me to a larger car with snow tires) and I was on my way. They also offered to let me keep the car for the rest of the day when I returned with no charge! They were personable and helpful. I will definitely be renting a car from this company in the future! We had an initial misunderstanding regarding the car rental booking, and unfortunately they gave our car away as a result. Rented a vehicle and there was no hidden fees or no hassle like you get with bigger companies, this is a good company to deal with, they are up front, I booked the car to pick at 12 noon and Drop it off on noon 5 days later but plane was delayed one hour so called to let them know and when I finally picked up my vehicle and I noticed on the agreement that they let me keep the car an hour after as well. We had just landed in Vancouver, stayed at the Riviera Hotel where their office is located. We were looking for ways to get around town and my dad decided to ask at Independent Rent A Car about their prices and such. Hussein and Nareesh were very helpful in informing us about the rates, both daily and weekly and the difference that each would cost. They were very cordial and helpful, explaining to us about rates and peak seasons (summer prices and weekend prices). Cars are new and clean, and they'll definitely have something for what you need. We ended up extending our rental for two more weeks. (Honestly, we also tried to look around for other car rentals. Prices* were about the same, so you're not really saving much by going to other rentals.) *for those who say that the prices changed from what they booked, you can't really blame them for increasing the price to match the demand..if they don't they stand to lose money too We'll definitely rent again!

Mo was super helpful in my car booking process! I asked for a snow tire SUV (not a M+S) as I need it for driving along the Coquihala. Mo and his colleagues responded immediately the night before and offered me a 1 day free rental on top of my existing weekly rental. The SUV I rented was smooth and had no problems even on icy road conditions. It was my best drive on the highway and made my trip even more enjoyable. Naresh, literally saved our entire trip! My girlfriend and I were heading away for valentines weekend. We had a nightmare of a day after two other rental companies cancelled cars we had booked. We were meant to leave at 6pm that night and by now it was 6:30pm. It said Independent closes at 6pm but I decided to call anyway as we were so desperate. Naresh decided to stay late to see if anyone else called. He had 1 last car left, with winter tires which is exactly what we needed. He quoted a fair price, but when we arrived we had a problem with our credit card. He helped us get past the problem, and we were on the road by 7pm. Like i said literally saved our entire trip, thankyou!!! If you are unsure what car company to use, look no further, use independent. Edit: Used Independent twice now, both experiences have been great, Naresh allowed us to have the car till late in the evening which gave us time to run to the outlet stores near the airport, will definitely be using them again!

Great experience with this company. Big thanks to Hussain, who was my service representative, and who was very patient and polite throughout the whole process. I called them a day earlier to make sure everything is ready for the next morning when I had scheduled my trip, and they invited me to come over and pick the car right away, for the same price. I should mention this was on Sunday afternoon, as they are opened 7 days a week. On the top of that, they added few extra hours on my return day, and upgraded car for free, as the one reserved for me had a small hick-up from the previous rental. Overall, they saved me a great deal of time and stress. I was able to pack everything the evening before a trip, and just sit in the car and go next morning, and drive back without any worry of whether I am going to come back on time or not for car return. Their office is in hotel, so dropping keys at concierge outside of working hours was also very convenient. Highly recommended!

I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience with Independent Rent a Car. They sent me an email cancelling my reservation I had made a month in advance a day before I was supposed to receive the car I had rented saying that they had no cars with winter tires (I was unaware I had even selected this option). They offered me other options that were more than double the price when I called to question their cancellation. During this phone call I was interrupted more times than I could count. The employee called me ‘dumb’ and said he was ‘warming up his hands’. They left me with little to no options for car rentals the day of my trip. Book elsewhere to save yourself the last minute hassle and poor customer service.

I reserved an 8 passenger SUV with real winter tires for one week trip. As soon as arrived at the facility , they first showed me the vehicle first , i was impressed , the prices were exactly as per the reservation, no extras . Upon return i had to drop off after hours late night, the next day they emailed me the final invoice and the cancellation of my security deposit . Our reservation was slightly delayed due to another customer being delayed in returning their vehicle, however they worked quickly to find us another vehicle as soon as possible, and got it to us before anticipated. We were also delayed in returning our vehicle due to a road closure, and the staff were so kind and understanding when we had to return later than expected. Good service! I've rented a car for holiday, car was almost new, well serviced and clean. Also, all the cars in that company are kept in closed parking, prevented from the rain etc., not on open air, so company takes care for their vehicles. The price is very democratic, while I purchased waiver. So, thank you for your service! Maybe one small remark: I 've returned a car early than it was agreed on the open parking, and had to left a keys on the reception of the hotel. It was a little bit wondering, so in that time I was responsible for the car since keys was returned to the time, specified in contract. I hope in near future I will visit a Vancouver once again and rent your another car, so we will agree in advance the best way for the same situation.

This review, unfortunately, would never be something I would ever write, especially for a local small business but in this case it has to be written. I have used this company multiple times in the past and had no issues but just this past week, after having booked my employee a car the previous week and had her car rental reservation confirmed by the company they canceled on us last minute. This cancelation occurred only a few days before the rental date and the company made up some ridiculous excuse/lie to try and explain and justify the cancelation. This has to be one of the most unprofessional and disrespectful things I've ever dealt with, not too mention it leaving us with no options to find a last minute replacement. It's unfortunate, as I personally have used this company multiple times in the past before without issue but this is inexcusable and completely unprofessional. Shame on you, Hussein and Mo.

Definitely a 5 star rental experience. I booked a smallest economy car with snow tires for two days online recently. As my return hour was noon January 1st, I was a bit concerned. When I arrived at the rental office to pick up the car, Hussain (the owner/manager?) confirmed that odd hour was not a problem. Then he surprised me with a nice free upgrade. He showed me the car I booked in the indoor parking lot and pointed out the small snow tires on that car. He said the bigger snow tires in the upgrade car might be more suitable for the road as Vancouver just got snow and record breaking cold. In my drive on the snowy road to skiing, I was thanking his kindness and genuine concern for customers. When I returned the car at noon, I forget to fill the tank. Hussain reminded me it would cost me a lot more if left as is. He told me the location of the nearest gas station and offered me free use of car the rest of day. What a nice person and honest business! At the end, the finally invoice is exactly the same as in online booking, without any hidden cost. Thank you Hussain. I will not be hesitate to recommend this rental place to anyone.

This was the best car rental place I've been to by far! And I've been to a fair few in Vancouver, Calgary, and Vancouver Island. Hussain stayed late when I was having issues at the airport, made sure I had the right car, made me laugh when I was in distress moving, and sorted me out super easily. He told me his wife was sick at home so he was just going to make soup for her and the kids anyways. You can tell a true family man by their caring nature!! My parents booked a rental back in June for a trip in September, they cancelled their car last minute claiming they did not confirm via email when they had confirmed earlier on a phone call and assured everything was all good. When trying to rebook they told them it would be $700 more than originally quoted. Edit: In the time since the business has tried to rectify the situation to a level acceptable to my parents

Please do not rely on this outfit to fulfil a reservation. I reserved a car two weeks in advance and confirmed it the day before I was supposed to pick the car up. When I arrived at the agreed upon time, they had no car for me. They said they would call me later when car came in. They never called. When I called back, still no car for me, and again they said they’d call back before closing, but again they didn’t. My much anticipated trip had to be cancelled. Very poor.

We have used this car rental service many times and have never been disappointed! Hassain has served us each time and is literally the friendliest gentleman. He’s been good to us when we had to cancel last minute as well as when we had to keep the car unexpectedly for an extra day. And the cars are always new and in great shape.

Call up to book a car. Detail the dates/times I need it for. They take all of my details then say they'll call me back to confirm. I press the issue and ask them to confirm if they have a car, they say they're sold out till 3 days after I need the rental. Couldn't tell me that at the start when I gave you the specific dates I needed it for? Avoid these people. Edit: wow. And you post an absolutely crazy reply? As I said, I called to try and make a booking, you took all my info and wasted several minutes of my time and then told me that you actually didn't have any booking available. When I asked why you took all my details and didn't just tell me you had nothing available at the beginning (as I clearly gave you the dates I needed the car for) you kept repeating "we're a small business" like that explains why you couldn't be upfront with your lack of availability.

After getting our other rental from Hertz cancelled less than 24hrs prior to pickup, we searched for a rental in downtown Vancouver frantically. Most had no cars on such short notice. But the people at Independent Rent A Car took care of us. They got us a good rate on a Nissan Quashi and we thoroughly enjoyed our rental experience with them. Naresh was the person who took care of us and I couldn't recommend him and this company more. I would hit 6 stars if I could!
