This was THE worst truck rental experience I've ever had. Not only did did the company over charge me for something that was their fault. They did nothing to fix it, I eventually had to go into the store and demand a refund. Their customer service is the WORST and wasted so much of my time.

We reserved a cargo van. When we arrived in the morning to pick it up they did not have one for us so they gave us a cube truck instead. The clerk was wonderful and very helpful. 1. They do not pick up phones for same day customer pick ups 2. You WILL get your vehicle late (mine was 2 hours late) 3. Poor customer service (they fight with you, and I mean if you ask them where the car you'll be taking is.. after they were 2 hours late (forgot about you), they give you a really poor attitude, and just tell you it is what it is, you have to wait) 4. stay away from this place.. I thought it was an isolated incidence, i rented from there again. same thing. 5. WATCH OUT FOR VEHICLE INSPECTION before you take the vehicle, they will miss scratches and such.. 6. they might give you an empty tank which you have to fill right away --- they did this both times I rented and then I had to find fill up as soon as I got the vehicle.

Terrible Service so far i am still in the midst of arguing with their management about additional fees they have charged me. I had returned the vehicle had the staff check the vehicle for them to tell me it was perfect and there were no additional fees (otherwise id have paid them on the spot) only to have my credit card (which i advise against giving to them if not completely necessary) charged for an additional 92.52 which they claim was for gas fees and a late fee. Absolutely Terrible.

Recently went to rent a car here. Big mistake. Booked a reservation online, showed up and no cars were available. Then after arguing with them for x amount time they offered to drive us to the upper james location for a car. We inspected the car with the associate. Obviously they didn’t do a full safety check on the car due to our later occurring situation. We then left that location not even 2 minutes down the road the locks started going on and off constantly. We decided to pull over and thank god we did because about 10 minutes later the front tire exploded. A gash in the tire about a foot wide was in the wall of the tire. Imagine if we had been driving and that had happened? We called discount and they proceeded to tell us we needed to deal with it and call the towing company. Towing company showed up and were stunned by what they saw. Discount had then delivered us another car to the location, not sorry in the least. We ended up returning the car one day early and still was charged another full day. On top of that the manager tells us we will now be paying for the price of a new rim and tire plus towing. They will also be keeping our $250 deposit. I said we would get our lawyer and insurance involved and she seemed perfectly fine with that, like they are use to it by now. Horrible experience would not recommend to anyone.

Rented me a car that had expired plates! Did not offer any compensation, almost got a ticket as I was pulled over with said plates. Awful customer service, never had the car I booked, always a long wait even when no other customers were there. Not recommended, walk cross the street for MUCH better service and value.

Very disappointed I was able to reserve a minivan on their website and received a confirmation email but when I went to pick it up I was told they didn’t have it or anything comparable. Even though I could see they had a few still I guess those were for people who’s reservations were more important than mine.

I have gone to discount car and truck rental for the past four years for our annual 8 day trip. We rent the same 4 minivans every time, and although it usually works out in the end I tend to be disappointed in there lack or organization. Each year we rent at least 1 month in advance and request the Dodge Caravans, but I always have to fight for these at the last second, after they let us know just a few days before we leave for the trip that they cannot get us four of them. This past year we only got 1 and had to compromise on the 3 other vehicles. So although there service is relatively good, and we end up with a decent price and vehicles in the end, the fight to get to that point (even though they should have it all on file from all the previous years - online signup for a reason) is very annoying. We would like to keep working with Discount car, but perhaps other locations are better organized? I will have to reconsider my options for next year. Overall though, the vehicles are good once we get them.

I've rented from these guys a few times. If I'm lucky enough to get Mike, things go smoothly and the service is great. If I get to deal with Bianca, the service is ....well inexistent. Whenever you deal with her, she has a talent for making you feel as though you are bothering her and will try to avoid answering your questions or help you in any way if it takes any more effort than a "yes" or "no". I was attempting to rent a car on the weekend. She simply said "you can't". After a bit of prying, she finally agreed that I could rent it on a Friday and drop it off over the weekend (even if they are closed). I didn't end up renting because she quoted me almost 400$ but I find it too bad that such a reputable business would hire people who don't value their employment enough to want to represent it in a positive way.

I booked online and the vehicle I booked wasn’t available. I received a phone call from the store saying that they had a Kia Sorento instead. I wanted a minivan. They should have a live inventory. When I called back the day we were leaving, it rang and rang and rang until eventually the call centre picked it up and transferred me back to the store. I confirmed that the Kia was reserved for me as the message left was from the previous day and they stated that they were closed and call back in the morning. I also tried to stop by but there’s nowhere to park especially now due to the construction. It’s really a bad location to access. When I was signing the paperwork for the rental, the manager Andrea came out and there was a girl who does the detailing who came in from outside clearly sweaty and exhausted in the extreme heat outside. The manager looks at her and snaps her fingers and tells her to go run and get more trucks from the mountain. She was very disrespectful of her employee and no one should be treated that way. She spoke to her like she was a dog. It was very rude. The service I received was okay. The guy was friendly enough. We did the walk around to inspect the car and I got in and drove off. The process didn’t take long.

Worst customer service ever. If there we a rating below one star I will give it to them. They gave me a van and said to return it back with the fuel level at same mark (full mark in this case). I did only 40 km with the van and when I returned it back I checked and found that my consumption did not drop the fuel below the full mark. They didn’t accept the van and told me to go refuel it over 5 lousy liters!! I told them I paid for the rental 54$ and they are making a big fuss over 6 dollars worth of gas. Enterprise rentals have a 1000 times better customer service and they would have gracefully accepted the car because it is a very small price to pay for customer satisfaction.

Upon calling for my deposit they were very rude and ignorant saying its not their problem its head office problem. And then hang up when you you require answers. Will never go back to them. I rented a car week before and I also asked them a day before for my confirmation. When I shown up there at my pick up time at the first place they didn’t serve me they all were busy talking and later on they asked me to get the pickup truck instead of sedan car, in spite of doing reservation, a week before. They did the same to my friend who was their to rent a car. My friend was asked to get mini van instead of midsize car. This guys will crash your plans for your outing or any plans you made by renting a car. Worst service ever!!!

This is worst ever phone system and location access procedure. Google shows discount location on Bayfield st in Barrie and call center says that there is no location there. Moreover they transferred me to a location which is not in service and closed for service on that day. I called at 12.20pm on Friday and got an automated msg to contact after hour services.......

My experience with the staff in booking and picking up my rental van was great however there’s something wrong with the gas indicator of the moving van i had rented. This makes me wonder if it was tweaked to trick customers in getting more gas. I picked up the van when it was 3/4 full and was supposed to return it with the same amount, when pumping before I returned, my friend was pumping gas and I kept turning on the car to make sure I don’t go pass 3/4 (no point filling it up because they won’t pay you the difference). We were both shocked how much gas we got but the gas indicator needle was just very slowly moving to half and not getting to 3/4 point. It got to a point that the gas pump was clicking indicating full that we realized we have over pumped. When we were driving back to return the van, while on the road, the gas needle continued moving and after few minutes of driving, it indicated it’s full! This is a scam but I’m not sure what i can do about it, but heads up if you plan to rent from these guys.

I stopped renting from them (only reason I still did was beacuse of the cheap prices) when I realized they are the only ones that limit the km you can use and most of the times when you go pick up on Saturday morning they simply don't have a car for you. Never had this issue with Enterprise or any other car rental company. Avoid at all costs!

Your representatives had four an a half hours to call me this morning to let me know you did not have a car for me. I took time out of my day to go to your location and get my car, only to be turned around out the door with zero customer empathy. All I got was a sorry pal for your luck, you're on a call list, goodbye. I've booked with your location four times in the past two months, and the same happened earlier this week, but a VW Golf was ready within an hour. Today was it for me. I went across the street to Enterprise and got a fresh 2019 Mitsubishi RVR on the spot with ease. Enterprise for the win.

STAY CLEAR Of THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! I booked a reservation a month in advance, only to get off the plane to a voice-mail saying they are canceling our reservation. We went to have a discussion in person & they fully admitted to booking people knowing they don't have cars. They admitted to turning 3 people around yesterday, we were told this how they operate (its normal) It's FRAUD!!!! In all of my years of traveling I have never dealt with such a sleezy company.

This was our second rental with Discount within a few weeks (1st with Guelph branch) and the team was awesome! We had originally booked a one-way rental with dropoff in Toronto however because of the shortage of vehicles, I was told that it wasn’t possible but was given unlimited mileage instead. When we picked up the vehicle, we were pleasantly surprised that the one-way rental was in fact now available so we were able to drop the truck off in Toronto making the move less rushed. Highly recommend Discount and will definitely use again.

Very bad experience. Rented cube truck, left it back with filled gas and reciept. Next day I get charged for not topping up gas. When presented with credit card statement, they asked us for original bill. And then started half an hour of shouting and abusive language! The vehicle size we reserved online 2 weeks in advance was not available. Two people with their own separate personal insurance plans can't rent the same vehicle, even if their credit card also covers rental insurance. They also hit you with the additional driver cost afterwards. It's not stated online.

I know t is not fair to judge a place, a well-know brand, just by the behavior of one person. However, the behavior of that one person, was the reason that I did not have a good experience with this branch at first. The lady was constantly on the phone, rather than answering to me, and the meantime all the people that came after me got their cars and the lady could not give me a car, simply because there was no other cars. She offered me the minivan, which I did not like at all at first, but enjoyed it when I got it. I will return to them, but appreciate it if they understand the meaning of the line and act based on First Come, First Serve.

Terrible customer service. I stated clearly, with 2 staff members on hand, that I NEEDED a truck rental. I was assured that a truck would be waiting for me on the day I NEEDED it. I called the day before to confirm everything, left a message and did not receive a call back. When I arrived, after driving over an hour from my home, no truck! They told me that they had no record of me asking for a truck and were completely unsympathetic to my situation. They did make a few phone calls to see if any trucks were available in the area, to no avail. I strongly feel they didn't value me as a customer and they showed absolutely no concern for the time and money they have cost me as a result of their mistake.

I would highly recommend the Discount Car and Truck Rentals at 174 Main St, Hamilton Ontario. My initial reservation was made online for a 16 foot cube truck rental for a move from Hamilton to Kingston. The website is intuitive, informative and easy to use. Hints about size of truck required, moving tips and tips on packing the truck. all very helpful Subsequently our circumstances changed and I found it necessary to amend the reservation which I did by calling the Main St outlet directly. Chris and Linda were professional, knowledgeable, courteous and efficient in revising the reservation as required. The day prior to pickup I received an email reminding me of the reservation and confirming details. On day of pickup everything was handled professionally and efficiently by Dannish and Nirmeen. The right vehicle was ready and paper work processed quickly. With additional input from Nirmeen we elected to purchase an unlimited km package which saved us money. During the 2 day rental period I received 2 phone calls and 2 emails asking if everything was going well and if I had any questions about the truck. The truck performed flawlessly. Thanks to everyone at Main St Hamilton our move went perfectly. I have used several other vehicle rental companies in the past, never with the great experience that I had with Discount. Based on this experience I will use Discount for all my vehicle rental requirements.

I managed to get there without a car very quick and still they didn't honor my reservation. (Translated) The car had not arrived on time. They had nothing similar to replace it (need a vehicle for the move). I had to leave for a week for work. After 4 hours sitting in a Tim Horton with no news, I decided to cancel the contract and contact Enterprise. I wasted my time and money on my job. I never received an escuse from the company although the lady at the counter was very nice. Once a complaint was made to the province (Discount), I received no compensation, because the company had offered me a replacement vehicle (a small vehicle .... to move objects ...). The experience was more hurtful than disturbing since everything was arranged with the good service of its competitor. (Original) La voiture n'était pas arrivé à temps. Ils n'avaient rien de similaire pour le remplacé (besoin d'un véhicule pour le déménagement). Je devais partir pour une semaine pour le travail. Après 4h assied dans un Tim Horton sans avoir de nouvelle, j'ai décidé d'annuler le contrat et de contacter Enterprise. J'ai perdu mon temps et l'argent en lien à mon emploi. J'ai jamais reçu d'escuse de la compagnie bien que la dame au contoir était bien gentille. Une fois une plainte mise à la province (Discount), je n'ai reçu aucune compensation, car la compagnie m'avait offerte un véhicule de remplacement (un petit véhicule.... pour déménager des objets...). L'expérience fut plus blessante que dérangeante puisque le tout s'est arrangé avec le bon service de son compétiteur.

Good rates. Friendly staff in office. Drop off is a nice option. Car was ok and mostly clean. Phone booking was a bit irritating (e.g. not familiar with the City and closest location, not helpful about the car sizes).

****Beware of terrible service from this location and their office**** Booked a reservation online, and received a call the next day to tell me the vehicle is no longer available to me because a corporate account wants all the vans that weekend. I asked about another location and was told they are taking all the vans from the Upper James location as well. I am also booking well in advance. When I asked if I should book elsewhere I was told that yes I should. Called into the booking center and was offered a vehicle further away for almost double the price. After losing my temper and apologizing I spoke to someone who was supposed to be a manager. I was told it would be escalated to upper management and I would receive a call. No phone call after 8 hours. No follow up. Poor service, poor business model. Booked a vehicle with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

Moving Truck was clean and we'll maintained. No hidden fees, no hassle because we had booked the truck a couple days in advance. Easy to drive and load. Customer service was timely and the staff was pleasant. Insurance available but can use alternative source if you have it. Everything was well explained and easy after- hours drop off. Over all 5/5 experience.

CAUTION Not the experience I intended to have. Upon arrival at shop, staff had not been prepared even though car had been previously booked by dealership. Staff did not explain deposit procedures with or without credit card. Paid a 150.00 deposit only to find out it takes 6-8 weeks to have it returned. Only was advised of this following payment. I was not a happy customer, and verbalized my displeasure. Upon review of the assigned vehicle, staff advised of some prior damage. Upon closer inspection the tires appeared worm to wear bar. A quick google check, stated that when worn to wear bar, tire only has 2/32 tread remaining. I suggest to staff they were not safe. He advised that they are rigorously maintained vehicles and have to meet a certain tread dept. Well, I think they forgot to check these. Given November in Nova Scotia, these tires were unsafe and I suggest does not meet Nova Scotia safety standards. Staff noted he would check on issue. I was approached in parking lot my husky man, whom suggested they were not renting to me. I would presume he was owner or Manager, but never identified himeself. I was very frustrated and I verbalized it as well. I was told we are done, still didn't get my deposit returned. Female staff member provided me with paper suggesting my deposit may be returned in 6-8 weeks. So I received no car, spent 150 dollars and told I was done. I called Discount customer services and was explained in detail requirements of transactions and proper process. Notified they don't normally take cash for deposits and I should have been advised of process. I was advised, note on my rental file from New Glagsow Discount, suggested I was verbal abusive. I did not even end up with a vehicle. Seems strange, I am out the 150 bucks for not wanting to drive a car that appeared unsafe and was intimated by whom I can only suspect was Manager. Left to walk away on this brisk Monday morning. I attempted to apologize for expressing my displeasure an an attempt to get an alternative vechile. Manager stated "we are done, no need to talk". I haven't exchange more that three words with this man. I stood patiently at front counter and was provided a paper, noting a application to have my deposit retuned. Within this 30 minute experience, I learned don't ask questions, don't note that a car may be unsafe and walk home minus 150.00. Please avoid this rental shop and its adjourned body shop, you will better off for it.

Discount Car & Truck Rentals in Main St. Hamilton so far has provided the best service in terms of car rentals. We have actually started getting to know the personnel by their first name. They are willing to take the extra mile to provide customer service. Definitely would be calling them in booking car rentals in the future.

Very bad service. I had reserved a car for 4 days and reserved 2 weeks before my visit, I had even received the confirmation email and reconfirm email from their side but when I reached there they said they do not have a car for next 2 weeks. It was a big surprise for me and did not find the car on other car rentals as all reserved in advance. They checked and my name was in their system but they gave a car to someone else. Eventhough I was polite and they were saying you can complain to head office and they do not care.

This rental car company lied about the rate. through my insurance company I was told 25 dollars a day and just received a bill for 54 dollars a day. They had me sign the papers at the body shop without a price on it that was filled out later when I wasn't there. Dishonest.
