Our car started smoking because all of the oil was leaking out onto the road as we were driving. We got a replacement car but no reimbursement for the day of our trip that we lost or the $200 cab ride to get our replacement. It took 3hours to get help from their “emergency roadside assistance” line. When we got to the drop off location and explained what had happened to our first car they were no help, they accused us of putting diesel in the car by accident. I Will be letting everyone I know not to risk their lives or their wallets by renting a car from Thrifty or Dollar.

We had booked two cars on their website for a deal. We landed in Montreal for my dads 75th birthday. We had the red eye flight and were exhausted. We head to the counter and the lady tried to add extra insurance, we explained that my credit card covered it she insisted probably not Quebec and was rude and not helpful. She would not help us and cancelled our reservations, two kids and a family of 5 stranded. You can imagine how disgusted we were with this experience and will not recommend this company ever! Big mistake I work for the travel industry and will make sure not to pass any more business their way.

Thrifty rental car company called me the day before my reservation to tell me that they did not have any cars available and that they were cancelling my rental. Thankfully, a friend was able to help me and I was able to make other arrangements, but if it wasn't for my friend bailing me out my entire holiday would have been ruined! Very poor customer service. Definitely not impressed. I will never use Thrifty again and I am telling all my friends not to use this company either.

Booked an intermediate car for one day ( pickup in morning and same day return at 11:00 pm ). Was charged 30 dollars without prior information for under 25 age. Charged 18 dollar extra for weekend. Charged 8.77 for premium location. All these extra charges and the grand total was 70 dollars ( excluding the fuel cost which was borne by me ) which was way higher than the estimate I got on the website. Was almost forced to buy their insurance in spite of having bought my own. The guy at the counter was rude and unfriendly. TL, DR - worst service experience with hidden charges and bad treatment.

I'd give it a zero if I could. The location we booked our rental for at 5pm closed at 4:55. So we called the main line. They told us to go to the nearest location. This one was permanently closed with nothing in the office. So now we have to hike to the airport, which we were trying to avoid. I recently rented a vehicle with this location and it was not a good experience. I felt like they are trying to rip you off. Rented a mini-van for 4 days, and I returned it late, fair enough, you pay a penalty for being late and so that was charged. However, when I rented the car initially, I had another driver that would drive the car, so I asked the customer rep whether there is an extra fee for an under age (under 25) driver and he said no it will not be a problem and a $11/day fee would be charged. When I returned the vehicle, they told me that the second driver was under age and they would charge $30/day instead. I was not present for the return, it was another person who handed over the keys. The customer rep then charged another $30/day fee for that person assuming he drove the car too. When after it was all said and done, I asked the manager of the location, what about the fact that your employee said this, the manager simply said that in our policies the rules are stated clearly and you should have read them. This is basically a cash grab. I've also filed a case against this location on BBB regarding these issues. Issue here is because a company has access to your credit card, can they go ahead and charge you without your approval?

Terrible, terrible business. They cancelled my rental ONE DAY (less than twenty-four hours) before I was due to pick it up, after I had booked it two months in advance. Came extremely close to ruining my entire trip, and it was only saved by finding a far worse and three-hundred dollars more expensive rental through Turo in Surrey - an hour and a half away by transit. I will be pursuing as many consumer protection measures and as much damage to this business as possible. Please never, ever use this car rental agency.

Was promised by agent at the desk to be refuelled at 1.06$ per L, was refuelled at 3,00$ per L for half a tank of gas upon return. Called Thrifty customer service, who refused to do anything and told me to GO BACK TO THE AIRPORT and talk to the person who served me at the desk, since nobody ever answers the phone at the counter nor returns voice messages. I will not be giving be giving my business to Hertz or Thrifty (they share a counter) and would not recommend to anyone else. If you do choose rent from them, do not trust a thing anyone promises you if it's not on paper and signed. Extremely lazy and poor customer service.

Last Saturday, August 8th 2020 two employees that regularly work here, Patricia and Brittney lie, string along and mislead customers about pick up dates ( expect 4 hour plus delays, 4 other couples were also having multiple hour delays, not just myself.) The behavior and attitude of Patricia & Brittney is truly disgusting and they are incredibly rude, aggressive, condescending and DO NOT CARE AT ALL about their customers time and money. They threatened to have hotel security to remove myself and my female friend from the hotel after we were trying to get more information on why there is multiple hour delays on our rental. Then after waiting hours we were not even able to pick up our rental because of a "policy change" (Had to go somewheres else, also 30 days or so for a refund) Multiple witnesses can attest to this and we are going higher up in the company plus the better buisness bureau so these two (Patricia & Brittney) face severe disciplinary actions/termination. Multiple witnesses can confirm all this to be true and are going higher as well. With further research I find out this company has went bankrupt. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE TO AVOID A NIGHTMARE SCENARIO!!! Thanks for reading and please share.

Staff are nice and cars are good, but the parking garage is one of the NASTIEST ones downtown. There is open drug use and vagrants occupying the level that you have to drive past in order to park after hours. The stairwell is littered with drug paraphernalia. If there is security, they are not doing their job!

Worst experience EVER. Rented a car that was undriveable, the steering wheel dances itself when you try to speed a little. The agent was incredibly rude over the phone and also at the counter. We called the location to exchange the car, she told us to get to the location ASAP when we explained the car is way too dangerous drive. She never apologized through out the whole conversation. She hung up the phone telling us she needs to assist the customer that was infront of her. We were the customers as well. When we reached over at the counter, the first thing she said was “I told you to come here ASAP, see how busy I am?” I couldn’t see any customer service going on here.

Really great front desk lady who knows what customer service is. Extremely friendly and loves her job. They offer great rates and you'll save a ton as opposed to renting from downtown Toronto. This also makes it difficult because they run out of cars quickly. So make sure to book ahead of time. Really convenient location because it's right next to a bus stop that connects to Kipling station. They have key drop off which was great so that we didn't need to drive all the way the next day to drop off the car.

After Enterprise-Rent-A-Car screwed me over for my car rental when I was leaving for a trip to Montreal on Friday, I went across the street to Thrifty and told them what Enterprise had done and they got me a rental car for my whole trip duration in less then 20 minutes! Terrible! Booked two days at 25.00 a day, returned vehicle on second day. Operater smilingly said I could keep vehicle for same rate if wish to keep vehicle. Nope dinged us for additional 15.00 per day. I rent vehicles frequently so do my fellow employees. If we need to extent Hertz and Enterprise give me same rate on extensions. We have now sighned contract with Enerterprise.

This was my worst experience with a car rental that I have ever seen! I had a very important interview in Hamilton the following morning, so I wanted to make sure that I had a car ready to go in the morning hence why I was renting. When I arrived at the store, there was a note saying be back soon and to call a specific number. It was probably 1 hour before closing. Anyways I was about to leave but thought I would call, the guy replied he will be there in a minute. Fast forward 25 minutes he finally arrives at this point I had committed and did not have time to walk to another rental car place (my mistake). I requested the absolute cheapest car they had for tomorrow if I could reserve it and come pick it up tomorrow. The guy said sure sure no problem. He then printed a receipt and quoted me $94 for 1 day! I was confused because Hertz (a farther walk) was charging $30 / day. He said oh its for 2 days because you plan to return the veichle after store closing at 5 pm. First car rental I have seen not do after hours drop off. I was upset at this point and said come on you got to do a better price. He then replied fine we have a smaller car... how could there be something cheaper when I asked for the cheapest thing. He pen wrote a different price on the receipt to help me out. Which I was thinking, I am getting ripped off, but have no choice and at least he did something nice. Fast forward 1 month and look at my visa bill. The guy charged me full price. TL;DR Terrible customer service, rip off prices, please don't go.

While the branch itself might be great, I made a reservation online for this location and cancelled it well before the cut-off date. My credit card was not fully refunded, and so far, I've spent an hour trying to get back the difference. This is easily the most miserable experience I have had renting a car. Don’t do it. They run a Sketchy business. Much more reliable and efficient with an EVO or Car2Go Account. They had the slowest queue and another half an hour to grab the car. When they had us pay and sign documents in the strangest order - It was clear the location does not do business by the book. When we went to grab the car, it wasn’t a car that we booked. Not even close. It was a large van when we booked a Yaris. When I asked to cancel the reservation because of this mess up, they mentioned their manager wasn’t there to process it. Now I have to go through all these barriers to make sure the reservation was cancelled and get a refund.

Customer service agent told us total will be $800 including taxes and insurance but they charged us $1600 without our consent. When I called back they refuse to refund my money. Worst experience. There is so many flaws with this rental company that i don't know where to start. In November we booked for a SUV to be picked up on September 3rd. On September 3rd we arrived at the airport and made our way to the rental company which was a 10 minutes ride with the shuttle. Once we arrived, the merchant mentioned that our reserved car was no longer available and we had to upgrade to a different car. This upgrade costed us more money. Two hours later we finally were told that a car has been returned and can be given to us. Based on the contract the car was going to be cleaned and sanitized. This was not done and we had to clean the car ourselfs. To make matters worse, We also noticed on our bank statements that there were multiple charges for Collusion Assistance and upon calling Dollar Car Rental, we were told to reported to our bank and that they are not able to see these charges on our account with Dollar Car Rental. I would not recommend this Dollar car rental to anyone. The staff were not professional and difficult to deal with. The head office support does not provide any information or willingness to look into the problem. We have also contact our visa card company to dispute the multiple charges for the same amount that was made on the same day.

Rented a vehicle from this location for a week. Vehicle was in very poor condition with lots of damage on the exterior. When I returned the vehicle the lady at the counter was nice so 2 stars. But overall, I'd recommend going down the street to Budget or Enterprise, even if it costs more.

I tried Dollar for the first time and the experience was poor. I prepaid for a Toyota Rav 4 and when I should up they didn't have one for me. So they gave me a Jeep with a Crack in the windscreen. The girl at the counter swiped my credit card without even telling me she was holding a deposit! I had to ask her why she was charging my card when it was prepaid. It also made me very nervous to sign the inspection agreement before seeing the car. I will be going back to Enterprise. It's more expensive but I always felt at ease. Don't rent from here!

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ROBBED!!! I rented their car for one day for a personal business trip at around 8:30am, Saturday, January 27, 2018. When I picked up the car, they didn't have any employees to go through any issues with the car, or walked me through the procedure. They just handed me a piece of paper and car's keys without explaining anything. The car had some minor scratches but hardly noticeable since it was parked in the basement parking lot. However, everything was marked in good conditions. I drove off naively without much concern. My trip went smoothly no accident, even though it was raining and snowing in some areas on the road that day. Upon the return of the car, they billed me an additional $210 plus $30 administration fee for windshield chip, besides the $35 for the rental. There was nothing wrong on my trip, and it was a short one day trip. I returned the car at 11:30pm within the same day. I did not understand what could possibly damage the windshield besides the windshield wiper that I had to use due to rain/snow. You get better deal here, nothing else! Cars are not that clean comparing with other rental companies. They never pickup phone, even if they pickup, they will put you on hold for 20 minutes and forget about it! Then when you call back, they will not apologize. They hang up on you as they are busy always! I returned the car overnight and called in the morning numerous times to tell them for charging a different card, than what they have on file. CSR told me she already closed it and card was charged already and hung up whereas I didn't see any charge on that card yet. What I understood was she didn't want to spend few minutes to take another method of payment. Rude and dishonest! I would pay few dollars extra and rent car from other companies who are more professional and value the customer service.

I rented a car from Thrifty on Sept 30, 2021 for one week. I read all the fine print. I was told that if I didn't refuel prior to drop off the fee would be the same as the local gas prices but on the "Estimate of Charges" it stated $3.69 per litre. Due to time constraints I had to drop the car of without refueling the tank being between 1/2 to 3/4 full. I then noticed a $100 extra charge on my credit card. AFTER MANY CALLS I WAS TOLD THAT THE REFUELING CHARGE WAS $9.99 US PER LITRE!!! CONVERTING TO APPROXIMATELY $12.50 CAN PER LITRE.! I WAS UNABLE TO RECIEVE A FINAL RECEIPT WITH ALL CHARGES. IT IS ASTONISHING THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS! THIS IS PURE ROBBERY!

In February, everything went well and easy. We rented a car the "Family Day" holiday Monday. They were open at 8am in the lobby of the Westin Hotel. We dropped it off after we were done at Halifax airport. No issues and everything was done in a timely manner. In August, we came back and rented a car again with terrible service. This time, we were charged $980 deposit on the car. No problem, however when they put my credit card information through, he entered it manually on the computer and swiped my card. I asked for the terminal to put in my code. He said not possible, so of course my card was declined and my bank called immediately saying there was fraudulent activity on my card. I said I was in store at the moment trying to put it through. They said since he was manually entering it on the computer it would not go through as it looked too suspicious. I cannot believe that they would not have a terminal for you to enter your code. So, we used a different credit card with more success. Then, we were given keys, told to take the elevator to the exit and find the car by beeping the keys until we saw it... we were told the car had already been checked and was fine. We went out to search for the car... no easy task. At first glance we noticed scratches on the passenger side door. We had to go back into the hotel and tell him. Wasting more time. He verified the 4 scratches... after telling us that the car had been checked and was fine. Clearly the company was trying to end up by having us pay for the scratches that were already there! We had to go back inside and sign. Finally, an hour and a bit later we were on our way. I could not believe that it would take so long and that there would be such terrible service.

This is without doubt the worst service that I have ever received. I had a 3pm reservation, arrived 15 minutes before only to be rushed out by the rude guy working there as they closed at 3pm. Processing is extremely slow, only 4 people within one hour. As reserved, the time for renting started at 8am, but did not get the service until 9:15. Then, the agent told me you can return before 10 AM next day without any overtime charge due to the delay process. Next day, I returned the car around 9:30 AM. No one was there to check the car so I left the key in the box. After returning car, I did not receive any receipt of rental. Then, I checked my credit card and see that they charged me 200 CAD for one day renting a Nissan 4-seat SUV while the fee was around 100 CAD (insurance included), I had already refueled the gas before returning, no damage .... There is no receipt, then I did not know why the fee was so high. Very unprofessional. I am too disappointed with their services.

I had visitors coming from overseas, and I booked a family van for a week with Thrifty through an online service. I then received a confirmation email from Thrifty. I called the day before just to make sure they'd have the vehicle ready by 10AM (which I specified on the request). They told me that they don't actually have any vans. They could give me a small car instead, or if I wait till 5PM I *might* get a van. Totally unprofessional. Luckily, another rental company around the corner was able to get me a large transit vehicle at a similar price point. Based on the other reviews here, I guess I should count myself lucky that Thrifty didn't charge me for the rental even though they didn't have a vehicle for me. Save yourself some grief and go somewhere else.

This is one of those reviews where if I could give zero stars, I would. Thrifty Rent-A-Car is, hands down, the WORST car rental company I have ever dealt with in my life. First off, the signage for the location is extremely poor. There are big bright signs pointing out drop off location, but the signage for Thrifty can barely be seen. The check in process was fine, but it's where I went to pick up the vehicle that the situation soon fell apart very quickly. 99% of the vehicles I rent are with Enterprise, and there is a very good reason for that- they provide some of the best customer service I've ever experienced in my life in any industry. With Enterprise, one of the representatives walks around the vehicle with you noting all the damage and recording only the damage that they are concerned about. They do this WITH you. Thrifty does it before you get there. Then they ask you to walk around the vehicle by yourself double checking what they record for damage. I noticed some paint chips on the hood of the car, dings on the windshield. I ask him if they record paint chips and glass dings and the guy says yes. He then comes by to look and tells me that they were not big enough to record. No problem. I ask him to put them on anyway because at this point I just don't trust them. Typically windshield dings are one of those things that car rental companies usually charge for. So then I get to the driver side door and there's a paint chip about the size of my fingernail which I point out to him, and he tells me that it's not worth recording because it's not big enough. ok The backside of the vehicle I couldn't even check because it was backed into a wall, so I had to pull it out and re-park it, and then pull out a flashlight as it was so dark in there I couldn't see most of the damage anyway if it did exist. The only damage that Thrifty had recorded on that vehicle is a scratch on the passenger front door. I can't see it and ask him to show me. It is a tiny little scratch that pales in comparison to the paint chip on the driver side door. But that they record. When I question him about this, he begins to tell me that it's up to the individual employee what the record and what they don't record. All that says to me is that either they don't really have a policy, and are going to ding me for existing damage when I bring the vehicle back, or they're unprofessional and they don't have any consistency in how they check out a vehicle. I asked the employee to record the damage that I noted on the vehicle, particularly the fingernail sized paint chip, and all the guy wanted to do was argue with me. It didn't matter how many times I explained to him that there wasn't any consistency in the damage they were recording and I didn't want to be blamed for something that was existing damage when I brought the vehicle back. The employee had two responses to that. Either he turned his head and rolled his eyes at the other guy that was there cleaning vehicles, or he just constantly interrupted me trying to explain thrifty's policy which if he would listen to me wasn't making a heck of a lot of sense. I finally got so frustrated with him that unfortunately I lost my temper and I swore at him. There's never any excuse for that and it shouldn't of happened on my part and for that I apologize. But here's a suggestion for you Thrifty employee. When a customer is trying to explain to you his concerns about how your vehicle is checked, rather than rolling your eyes and interrupting him, LISTEN to his concerns. Don't argue about recording damage on The checkout form, just do it, especially if it makes him happy and shows him that you care about what he's trying to tell you. As far as I'm concerned this is the last dollar that thrifty will ever get from me. They are the most unprofessional car rental company I have ever dealt with and I will never give them another dime of my money. 20/46 reviews are 1 star. There's a reason for that. Poor management and incompetent employees. Save yourself a headache and rent from another company.

Arranged to collect car online at 5pm but it was closed when I turned up. Luckily I was let in by someone who hadn't gone home yet. I voiced my displeasure but was met with 'we have no control over what time Google says we are open until'. Rental price was literally twice as much as I was originally quoted online after insurance was applied. I also wanted my girlfriend to be able to drive but was told this would be an additional $15 a day... Why is there an additional daily cost for this? Surely a simple admin fee to add her on would suffice? Returned the car at the end with just over 3/4 of a tank of gas. They charged me an additional $45 to refuel. I argued that a >1/4 tank of gas does not cost $45, but was informed that the rest covers the cost of refuelling. Guess I'm in the wrong industry if gas pumpers are earning approximately $38 for a few minutes work. Anyway, congrats thrifty. You successfully bent me over. Enjoy the money you squeezed as it will be the last penny you will ever see from me

Quick and easy service at the desk and easy to find in central Vancouver. Absolutely no issues with the car rental and the car was clean and reliable. My only concern was the under 25 fee that was applied to my bill which I expected but the total was a bit excessive. However I know this is the terms applied by many rental companies but its just something that people should be aware of when renting.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I had an absolutely disgraceful experience with this location and had to file a formal complaint with Thrifty Head Office. The young girl (looked about 15 years old) that was working alone could not explain or answer any of my questions about the insurance. She couldn't tell me what would happen if I was involved in a crash - something anyone would like clarification on! When I returned the vehicle, I was asked to hand over the keys to a disheveled man who emerged from the back and said he "cleans the cars and the staff had gone home"....... it was still within business hours. I asked for a receipt and confirmation that I had returned the car and he could not use the computer, had to call the "owner" and the whole process took THIRTY minutes. I called the next day to complain and the "owner" was sarcastic and rude. She did not seem to care that a very dissatisfied customer was looking for some kind of resolution. She offered me nothing unless I would rent from her again and she could reduce the rate!! No one would give anyone repeat business after such an appalling experience. I told her I would report this to head office and she basically hung up on me. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable experience. This location represents Thrifty and Hertz - such a complete lack of professionalism was unbelievable. I will certainly be sharing my horrendous experience with others. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION.

Tl;dr - great car, poor customer service. Would use again, though. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. They picked me up at home for free. I had reserved (with less than 24h) a sedan - I get there, there's none - unless I'd take one of the "dirty" ones (which they hadn't finished cleaning). They showed me two hatchbacks and knocked down the price a notch. The car was clean, smelled good, performed like a charm. Staff was efficient, but unprofessional.

Like others who've reviewed, I had the worst experience with this Thrifty location. I was told by phone that my confirmed reservation was late and to come 3 hours later. Inconvenience but fine. I called 30 minutes before and now they told me the car was unavailable entirely. No car. Confirmed reservation. No car. She then hung up on me while I complained that my Easter long weekend trip to visit family was in jeopardy because of this. Subsequent phone calls were unanswered. Occasionally she picked up the phone then hung up immediately after. Other times she'd answer and put me on hold right away. Complete horror story of a rental agency. After seeing others here with a similar experience, I suspect this location intentionally lists more inventory than they have so they can ensure their entire fleet is overbooked and rented. Internet bookings from Expedia, Priceline, etc don't know any better. Those of us who show up later in the day are left stranded. They probably just close shop early and go home for the day after their cars are all gone. This business is corrupt, unprofessional, dishonest, and should be avoided at all costs.

Super sketchy car rental - we were charged 200 more than what we were quoted. We got to St. John’s late at night and went to the counter to pick up our car but were told they didn’t have any vehicles available. They made an arrangement that Budget would give us a vehicle for the same rate as our reservation. So we went to Budget, who quoted us at 200 dollars more than our original quote. I told her that they were charging us way more than what we reserved for and she said, “Well, the taxes are higher here.”. I showed her my booking (thankfully I had printed everything before coming), and she proceeded to tell me that Thrifty would cover the difference. So we went back to Thrifty, and they said they couldn’t do anything - we would have to pay the full amount and we could get a refund upon returning the car. At the end of our trip, we went to return our car and were told they still could not issue a refund because “the manager” wasn’t there. We were told that once the manager reviewed our situation he would give us a call. It is a month later and we never received a call. I have been emailing with EasyRentCars trying to get my refund. Initially they asked for my address to send me a cheque, so I sent that, only to be told they couldn’t actually do that, and they actually needed my credit card. I am still waiting to see if I receive that refund. The whole thing has dragged on for a month. It is for sure a scam - it has to be. Otherwise it is the worst customer service and no one has any organization or any idea what is going on. If you book online with Thrifty, don’t expect a vehicle to be reserved and prepare to pay 200 dollars more.

Wow! What an amazing experience. Prebooked a car (Chevrolet trax) to rent for a week and the team was really helpful in ensuring I had access to it. The customer service was top-notch; I wish I could have stayed and chatted with the team longer, I have no idea how they were so pleasant and outgoing at 730 in the morning - could not have been a better start to my day. I paid with my credit card which provided rental insurance so I declined their offer. While driving on the highway another vehicle launched a stone into the windshield, cracking it. I informed my insurance company (who is taking care of it) , and informed the team at thrifty. The team was quick to get it fixed when I returned the vehicle so the car doesn't sit on their lot unused resulting in them unnecessarily charging the renter for loss of use. They were very accommodating with me and patient with my insurance company waiting for the associated charges to be paid. They were quick to respond to all my emails when I needed documentation for my insurance company, and ensured I had visibility into progress of the claim. Highly suggest getting their insurance if you don't have your own to avoid any hassles. I am surprised Ive never rented with thrifty before; Shoutout to the Thrifty Fredericton team for an excellent first experience! Will definitely rent with Thrifty again.

Dear Sir/Madam: I regret to inform you of my awful experience with your customer service and road assistance yesterday in the afternoon while I had major trouble with the car I rented from you, a Dodge Durango. I was driving it on the 640 W highway in Montreal when the car stopped working and would not move. The car was entirely unresponsive. It was a congested highway that was unsafe to be stuck on. I tried to call your road assistance and customer service multiple times but not a single agent answered the call. No customer should find themselves in a situation like this. It was unbelievable that I was put on hold for more than an hour after I described my critical condition to your dispatcher. In fact, the person that your dispatcher redirected us to for roadside assistance never responded. It is unacceptable that we were not helped even after your customer service was aware of the critical nature of our request. It was a horrifying experience to be stuck in your rental car in the passing lane of a busy Montreal highway. Moreover, it was disappointing that nobody from Thrifty’s customer service was willing to take care of us in a timely matter, or at all. If your emergent roadside assistance lines are so busy that they do not pick up the phone after an hour, I wonder how many other customers are waiting for assistance, and seriously question the quality of your rental cars. I have rented many cars in my life, and your customer service’s apparent disregard for the healthy and safety of my wife, two kids and parents that were in the car with me will definitely impact decisions renting cars from Thrifty in the future. I should also add that the check engine light had come on the day before so I immediately brought in to exchange it. However, your agent dismissed my concerns as he believed it wasn’t a major issue and told me to continue using the car. My family and I need this horrible experienced to be addressed with due care by the Thrifty team. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. P.s. It’s July 28th and we have not heard anything back yet.

The ladies at the desk are awful, Very sour and have no customer service skills what-so-ever. I don't carry a credit card and had an insurance rental through enterprise which required no credit card, however this requires a credit card no matter what the rental is, insurance covered or not. They were very rude, "why do I need a credit card when it's an insurance rental?" "UMMM were giving you a $30000 car?!" "enterprise didnt need a credit card" "I guess you should just go rent with then" and so that's what I'm doing. The last time I had a rental with Thrifty it was a 4 year old black Prius, with extensive damage to the side of the car and a smashed foglamps. I'll never come back here or rent from thrifty again.

Priceline will not allow you to book a pick-up time at the dealership you're booking with if it is closed. On January 10th I booked a reservation pick-up of 2:00pm for February 17th. My boyfriend and I showed up at 2:00pm to find the Seymour location closed. Lights off, no staff in sight. The location changed operating hours for the pandemic, fair enough. However, to not even think to call someone who is clearly booked at 2:00pm to notify them that your hours changed and you'll need them to come 15 minutes earlier....what kind of organization runs in such a manner that completely disregards a booked (and confirmed) reservation? You saw me in your system and decided it wasn't worth giving me any warning that I would show up to a fully shut down location. When I called the next day and spoke with the manager of the Seymour Thrifty Rental - he insists that Priceline did not provide him with my contact information. This was confirmed a lie by Priceline's customer service who stated that my phone number and e-mail were sent to Thrifty. When I asked 'why didn't you speak to Priceline to ask them to contact me?' the manager had the audacity to say 'Do you know how hard it is to get through to Priceline?' - as if my boyfriend and I standing outside a fully shut down Thrifty store, effectively having our plans that we made over a month ago ruined in an instant, did not matter because god forbid the manager be made to provide any extenuating effort to avoid a customer from encountering this situation. The reviews show that this is not the first time this has happened. Just 7 months ago the exact same situation played out - so the manager/staff at this location have known this can happen and have knowingly failed to take steps to stop it. You confirmed that you saw my reservation, you confirmed that you had a car ready for me and you confirmed that at 1:50pm you had closed the front desk to go to the garage to check car inventory. You knew someone was coming at 2:00pm and instead of checking for them and helping two human beings avoid a bad experience - you proudly left knowing that we'd show up to your closed location. Obviously it is easy to dismiss strangers, but if I was your mother - you'd be mortified by the lack of respect/time/care intentionally shown to me by deciding to close even though you knew I would be coming. I will be speaking further to Thrifty and Priceline about this experience. I'm so disappointed that the manager at this location chooses to run his business in this manner. I hope my review spares someone else from experiencing the shock of showing up to a closed business and having your plans ruined.

And they mentioned my booking came in yesterday night, whereas I had only changed the time of pick up as my flight was delayed. Ridiculous service. They made me sign a paper that I thought was the total that I paid on expedia as it was the exact amount of the total rental price, and only later I found that I was double charged and they said the second charge was just for winter tires and that I had agreed to that by signing the papers!

Called Thrifty main phone number (head office?) for a rental quote for pick-up at the Hollis Street location and the customer service rep ended up booking it and sent me a confirmation by email. I saw the email while still on the phone and questioned him. His answer was that I could cancel it if I wanted. I said cancel it now! He said he did, but I never got a cancellation email. I asked him to wait on the phone until I got the email and he proceeded to hang-up on me. Awful customer service! Now I have to call back and make sure the booking is cancelled. What a waste of time. Hopefully the next customer service rep is more professional than the first!

I have been renting in this location for a year now. Agree that there times where service is not as I would like to receive. However, this location has two excellent representative: Sthepan & Cynthia. Sphenan has serving me most of the time and his top notch rep. Very professional and very detail oriented guy. Once they did not have the car of my type and he made my rental experience like no other. I have been renting, since I do not own a car, for last 10 years with several providers (Budget, National, etc.) and I have to say Sthepan excel by a mile any other of these services. Cynthia is catching him up in term of services and last rental she made things such my receipt will be available at the time of returning my car. That was really good time saver as I do not need to wait until the receipt appears on their website. Overall my experience with Thrifty is very good and the reason I signed to the Blue Chip program to have more savings out of my renting. Thank you guys!! Jose

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!! I had a reservation for a mini van months in advance. We get off cruise and they cant pick us up so we got to location in cab. They’ll only refund $10 of $15 cab ride. Then no mini vans so they are sending us to another company near airport which is why we wanted the one near port NOT THE AIRPORT. And they still want to charge us a drop fee at airport. Guess what they Shuttle us in to the other company? A mini van. But they won’t let us have it for “maintenance” reasons. A really stinky way to end a vacation traversing Vancouver to just get a rental. The purpose was for ease to travel about our last day. What a joke of a location/business.

Scam behaviour suspected. Strongly advise against using this company. Communication with them was sparse and it took 10 phone calls for me to speak to the manager of the location. They told me they would follow-up before charging me but instead, charged my credit-card at will. They have very poor customer practices and do not operate as other Canadian rental car companies do (i.e. Avis, Enterpise). I requested a receipt 10 times before they gave it to me. It is a very unprofessional and poorly run local. Avoid at ALL costs. They will charge your exorbitantly. The company is a racket.

BEWARE! I returned the car with the full tank and was charged the full price again for refilling of the tank ($55). When you rent the car, they push you a service of refueling the tank, but they didn't clarify to me that they would charge the WHOLE AMOUNT OF THE GAS EVEN if you return the full gas to them! Very rude staff when I asked about that to be corrected and the customer service from the phone couldn't find my reservation (even if they could find it when I searched for it before). They lost a customer for life and I hope you think twice before renting with them, and if you rent, make sure you REFUSE the refueling service to avoid throwing $55 directly to the trash!

They didn't have one so they upgrade the car and when I told them I didn't want it they said oh don't worry you wont be charged for the upgrade. (Wonder who will pay for the increase in gas) and then when I got my statements etc. I see that they did charge me for this upgrade that I didn't want. They must be having a lot of issues when it comes to Billing cause you are left waiting with High Call Volume bleeping in your ears..

I really really don’t recommend them at all at all. I’m very disappointed. The service is really bad and the employee that was their have no empathy. He only see you as a number and don’t care about how to assist you, answer your questions or anything. By the way your employee if you check your security cameras didn’t have the mask covering his noise and mouth. even if he was behind the wall of plastic when talking to me. I really would prefer that he keep his mask at all times. That would make me feel safer. The car we had smelt like literal hot dogs. After I was in a head on a few weeks ago, we had to replace the car. So we were sent here.. My mom (still going through treatment) couldn't drive your car without throwing up and when we brought it back you, you told us it was the cleaning agent you used? The guy we were dealing with seemed extremely out of it, which I get, I can get quite tired myself, but he lied about only having one vehicle for us (which also smelled). Zero empathy as he shrugged his shoulders and said all was normal. So I asked if he could call another branch as we were done with this place and he said he didn't know how to phone the other Hertz......... I don't like to come off rude but I wanted to double check that he was physically incapable of phoning to check if they had any other SUVs that didn't reek terribly, so I asked again and he told me he couldn't phone the other branch. What is wrong with your business model? ICBC sends you clients who are emotionally exhausted and this is the staff you put on the front lines? He told us to use the hotdog car till 12 midnight. Or to "go to another 3rd party car rental place". There's something not right with this place and the employee we dealt with that day. You guys know how to contact us and we'd like to hear your side of the story. We highly recommend going with Avia and we got an amazing vehicle (hotdog-smell free vehicles). Don't go here until they get their acts together..

To avoid at all cost. We booked a car for 9:30, we managed to get one by 11:00... If you have plans for the day, go somewhere else. They have no track on their vehicles and are unable to provide the service they advertise. It is just a scam. Lots of other customer were waiting too. The online reservation system doesn't know how many cars are available and will take infinite amounts of booking, even if there are no car free. That's what we've been told at the front desk... Few days after returning the car, we received a mail telling us the car has a damaged and that we have to report the accident. We never had any accident. The car was in a perfect shape when we left it. Luckily we received a second mail telling us that it wasn't our car. It tells a bit on how they keep track on their vehicle and how they treat their customer. We finally received the invoice and the price has doubled from what was advertised. In the end it wasn't cheap. To avoid at all cost !

I’ve rented from Thrifty at this location several times and it has always been a good experience. They have rates that are often significantly lower than the competitors right next to them. One thing I enjoy about Thrifty is they have a much more interesting selection of vehicles and will actually take the time to present to you different models available that full under the category of your reservation. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to anyone. The only negative point that comes to mind would be longer than average wait times in the queue. That being said I’ve experienced this with the competitors at the same location as well.

Horrible experience, would rate it lower if I could. First of all, we arrived and the rental agent was asleep at the desk with no mask on and the phone off the hook. We had booked a car online for one price, and were shocked have to pay TRIPLE that original price for the "luxury" of having snowtires in Winnipeg in JANUARY during a snowstorm. Snowtires cost an additional $20 for every 24hrs, we were pressured by the rental agent to take the last car left at that additional price. He denied Thrifty offering a military discount, even though it is clearly stated on their website. Overall, the experience was stressful, expensive and frustrating. We will not be renting from them again. Do not be fooled.

Another HORRIBLE Hertz rental experience. Do not rent from Hertz — does not matter the location. Arrived at Mississauga location at opening and there were no cars available. There were several people waiting, one of which was a gentleman who was waiting since the day before. The poor lady at the front desk was doing her best and calling around to all other Toronto and GTA locations, including non-Hertz car rental locations, trying to find us cars and decent rates. Some customers had to find their way up to Brampton (the lady at the front desk was also helping to schedule rides for some people and using her own money for gas money), while others were left to pay twice the price with Budget. I ended up waiting three hours and finally someone returned a vehicle. Hertz, when I called customer support, had no apologies and provided no support to us or the workers at this location. Only a « sorry, there’s nothing we can do ». We also found out that despite there being no cars, Hertz was still accepting reservations online for pickup that day! This is only half the story... I ended up understanding why there were likely no cars — I had paid extra to drop the car off at a location closer to downtown Toronto (Billy Bishop airport). Had even confirmed this location several times on the phone with various staff. Showed up on Monday only to find out at 10pm that the location has been CLOSED FOR MONTHS due to covid19. When I called for assistance at 10pm, Hertz kept insisting that it was open (it was not, Billy Bishop airport security confirmed HUNDREDS of people had been turned away and the location was closed yet Hertz keeping sending people who end up being stranded). I was connected with emergency roadside assistance. Waiting on hold for 1.5 hours only to be disconnected without receiving help. Tried calling Pearson airport several times but no response. Ended up driving home and parking car outside my place. Hertz on Facebook messenger also abandoned me when I was attempting to get assistance (just stopped responding). Called Hertz Mississauga/Dundas following morning but no answer. Called Hertz Brookfield and was met with an extremely rude lady who told me « why are you calling this location? not my problem » after explaining I just needed to find a location to drop off vehicle. She did confirm that Billy Bishop had been closed for months. Finally connected with roadside assistance and was told that I would be charged a FEE for them to come pick up my car. Otherwise I would need to drive to Pearson airport and drop off there. I can’t even begin to explain how enraged I am. No assistance, no cars, overall terrible customer service (except the poor lady at the Dundas location), on hold for hours, bounced around between representatives, charged fees...really, could this be any worse?

I'm glad I discovered this car rental place in my neighborhood. I used to rent from Enterprise and Budget, but their absurd rental rates forced me to search for an alternative. I've rented cars from this Thrifty/Dollar location for 2 years now. Very friendly, helpful, and accommodating service every visit. The cars I've rented here have always been in good condition and have been comfortable for both city and highway driving. Highly recommend this place to friends and neighbors. As is mentioned here, it's a very small location in the retail strip of an apartment building on Carlton, so it's best to make a reservation over the phone or in person - the website reservations don't work at this location as they must get their cars for pickup from a larger location in the city.

I have had an awful experience when rented a car by thrifty. To fill the same rental car tank I have paid U$ 45,00 CAD, so I have left less than ¼ of tank miss to full fill, they charge me U$ 82,01 CAD to refill and said that charged me U$ 4.05 CAD per liter to refueling while the gas station was U$ 1.1 CAD. I guess there were two bigs mistake: First, the tank was missing only less of ¼; Second, they charge more then 3x per liter. Be careful with this company, I want to my extra-paid money back.

Great rental location. Courteous staff that are not pushy to upsell. Car was older but the price was very good. Pickup was efficient. As the other reviewers say the garage is tight to get in and out of, but this is downtown Vancouver so it's to be expected. They have a late night return box in the garage so you can drop the car off after hours. This can save you from paying expensive Vancouver overnight parking rates.

I attempted to rent a SUV through Thrifty and upon getting to the airport realized there was no Thrifty terminal. After discovering it was actually operating as Hertz they informed me that the SUV for which I had put a deposit down was not available. I booked a car through priceline and the rental company was heartz, which is this location. The morning i reached to pick my car they told me they have no cars available. I talked to customer care both heartz and priceline but no one helped. They didn’t even sent me a cancellation in advance! I’m still on call with them but doesn’t look like they are willing to help just keeping me on hold. And they cut my call. Great service Heartz! ???????? I recommend to call them in advance if you have already booked. If not then don’t book with them at all.

For the return i filled in the tank 10 mins before arriving to the airport but no, i got charged $27 because the needle was slightly below the full tank line.

The HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT we had with thrifty customer care agents with our last rental was unrealistic!!!. We have rented the car from Calgary downtown on 12th July and the pick up was scheduled for noon. The pick up location was supposed to close at 6pm. As we were traveling from Toronto and our flight was delayed by 7-8 hours, we were supposed to land around 6pm. I have contacted Thrifty customer service right after we knew about the delay which was 9 in the morning Calgary time to find out what we could do in this scenario (either to change the pick up location or cancel the booking and re-book). I have been advised by one of their customer service agents that I can pick up my car from the same downtown location at any time and she was going to link my flight details to my car reservation so that the location can wait for us. I had no reason to doubt their employee so I trusted her. Now we land at Calgary airport at 6pm and I thought to update thrifty about our landing time so I called the customer service again at 6:15pm on 12th July and she said its ok to pick up the car at 7pm and the location will be open for us to pick up the car. Again, I had no reason to doubt her. We took a cab all the way to Calgary downtown which cost us $100 and more than 30 minutes and all we find out over there that the location was closed!!! Then my wife called the customer service again and she has been advised that we can pick up our car tomorrow!!! (We were supposed to drive to Canmore the same day to our hotel with NO CAR or spend the night on the streets!! The customer service agent had no respect for our situation). After a huge fight with the agent on the phone (Roxanne, agent # 0410) for more than 2 hours, she said go pick up the car from the Calgary airport!!! We had to take another cab and spent over $50 again. I am not even going to write about the whole incident of the price of the rental at airport and the hidden airport charges which would take another 2 pages of this review and took 1 more hour to deal with. We asked the customer service agent to compensate for our cab cost and they said they cant do anything about it and we have to make a formal complaint with Thrifty. If we knew the location will be closed and if we haven't been misguided by thrifty agents TWICE, we could have saved over $150 and 4 hours of our lives along with peace of our minds. I do not understand why their agents are not aware of their own policies, location times etc!!! Anyway, I did a formal complaint on thrifty website and do you think they responded? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! STAY AWAY FROM THRIFTY UNLESS YOU ARE A FAN OF HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thrifty deserve NEGATIVE STARS from my end. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Made a reservation a 5 wks in advance for a Wednesday pickup. Due to forest fires, I needed to move this to a Monday pickup. I had to call the corporate number to make this change, as it was a Sunday and this location was closed. No issues with the change over the phone, new price was as expected, and received a confirmation number before the phonecall ended. Went to pickup my car the next day and the office was closed (long weekend in BC). Number listed on the door went straight to the corporate number, who was unaware that this location was closed. All other locations in/around Vancouver were closed, except the airport. I was told I would now have to get my car from the airport and that my reservation had been changed - I was still able to drop it off in Surrey when I was done. 30min later I was at the airport being told that their system didn't show any change and that they couldn't help me - they aren't a franchise like all other thrifty branches. After calling corporate again, now speaking to a different employee. I was told that nothing had been changed, the airport didn't have a car for me, and my only option was to wait until the next day and go back to the Surrey location. I have never dealt with a customer sales rep who cared less. I ended up replanning my vacation to deal with their overwhelming incompetence - ended up missing some hikes I had planned near whistler. I won't be using thrifty in the future for personal or business use. I'm even going to warn my colleagues not to use them and, out of spite, I will reject their expense reports a few times if they do - just to make them second guess going with thrifty.

She treated me like her own family member and gave me lots of options for dine in, where to go where not since ot was my first time visiting Quebec city. Salina you are the best and I really appericiate your help for making my trip so memorable. Also, your lil treat for my daughter she absolutly loved it. Manager at YUL airport was so kind as I mentioned him that when I picked up the vehicle from Quebec the windsheild washer was empty and I paid for 2 jugs on my way to YUL and the manager waved my one side dropoff fee. After walking around, I found somebody in a little office who told me, that their location was not at Front Street. I did not find that location either and ended up driving to Pearson Airport. Arrived at the Winnipeg airport and found out the car rental was not located at the airport. I was given instructions to take a Unicity Taxi to their address and they will pay for the cab. So I did exactly that. When I arrived, the front desk agent had everything ready. The transition went smoothly, except for the one Asian manger who would not shut up and spoke to his employees in a very unprofessional/disrespectful way. A few days before returning the rental, I had called and notify the front desk about a new ding in one of the doors. The agent I spoke to over the phone went over the steps with me. I understood that I will be paying a $500.00 deductible upon arrival and will be filling out a damage report. So we did exactly that when I checked in. Three weeks later I call in for an invoice for my credit card company. I spoke to the assistant manager Heather who was very unprofessional as well. My credit company wanted the total price for the repairs and some other information. I gave her my email address to email me a copy. I never received anything. Two weeks later I called in again and she had no clue what I was talking about or who I was. My overall experience with this company was very, very unprofessional and horrible.

Hello, So I've given Thrifty Car rental a one star rating due to an issue that I had with a reservation on July 30th 2021. This does not pertain to this specific location however this is the location I had the reservation for. We had booked online on the 17th so approx 2 weeks prior. No issues with booking. We were sent various reminders leading up to the reservation date confirming the booking and all. We arrived to pick up our rental and were informed they had np vehicles available. None at all. The Lady in front of us in line apparently had the same issue. I called customer service and was informed they had not had any vehicles available even at the time of our reservation but we were still allowed to book. Anyway of course I would recommend not renting from Thrifty based of of this experience. IF you decide to rent from them please call to confirm as the online system clearly does not reflect their actual availability. Hope this helps!

I should say first that we were very loyal customers to this place and we would rent a car at a minimum of once a month. We rented the car for three days and we came late by 3 hours and he charged us for a whole extra day. That would have been totally fine if he had told us immediately (we would have taken the car for the rest of the day) but no, he chooses just to bill us an extra 40$!!! In addition, while using GPS, we happened to go on a toll road by mistake (which costs 3$) but Thrifty had to charge an extra 25$ above the three dollars calling it "administrative fee" WHAT?? I have worked with so many car rental agencies and this is by far the least professional and the best at ripping me off. Wish i discovered it earlier!

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE TO RENT A VEHICLE THEY SCAM YOU AND OVER CHARGE YOU TO FILL UP THEIR POCKETS WITH EXTRA CASH We rented a 2017 Toyata Sienna that has a fuel capacity of 79L(8/8) from this place and used it for two days and returned the vehicle with a full tank of gas. They have charged me 53.35 dollars on the bill saying that we did not return the vehicle with a full tank. The bill says that 7/8 of the tank was full by the time we returned the car which means we are short of 9.875L of gas. After complaining about this to the customer service he showed us a receipt saying that they have filled up the tank with approximately 33L of gas. Which does not make sense mathematically. This place over charge customers by accusing them with false allegations to make extra money to fill up their pockets.

WORST car rental experience EVER. I have rented cars all over the world for over 30 years and this was the worst service and complete lack of customer service. Made original rental through Priceline, only to find out that the car I had specified is not even at this pickup location!!!! I was offered an alternate (smaller) vehicle and declined. Then they "found" a Dodge Durango for me. We picked it up in a dark parking garage, in a space that we could barely get it out of. Once we got down the road and stopped for coffee a couple of hours later, we looked in the back to discover how dirty it was and realized that the vehicle had not been cleaned or serviced. Phone calls, official complaints and emails for the whole week have all gone unanswered. Discount was offered on the phone; but they could not give any details. They don't care once they get your credit card!!!!!!

I would give Thrifty 0 stars if I could. After showing up for my rental and waiting 15 minutes when no one showed up, I called the number at the front desk to indicate I had arrived. The woman on the other end indicated she was busy and would show up when she was finished her task. When she did show up she accused me of not showing up for my rental on time (which was true, I'll give her that) but I've never had an issue with showing up a bit late to rent a car - especially with travel delays, etc. After being told off for wasting her time, I was asked to swipe my credit card and provide a non driver's license piece of ID. With me, I had only brought my credit card and driver's license - as is normative when renting a car. Nowhere on the Thrifty website or in my booking process was it indicated that I needed two pieces of photo ID. This seemed to be a policy only stated on a printed out sheet at their desk at The Westin Halifax. The woman working the desk was incredibly rude and unhelpful throughout the entire process. If she had simply been polite, I would have certainly been more sympathetic. I would not recommend to Thrifty Car Rental to anyone.

Booked a car here through Expedia. The woman on the desk was very rude. I as dressed poorly, coming from a construction site and she must of thought I was not in her class. Note there, I don't need to work customer service desks, she does. Needed a car while mine was down. There was a credit card issue, Expedia had already took the charge out. She became even ruder at that point so I called an uber and left. 3 weeks later still in the car I rented form Enterprise. The few extra bucks a week is worth not dealing with such a person. 1 star because it is the lowest I can give. Do yourself a favour and just say no.

Don't be fooled by the "pay now and save" option. After you pre-pay, you'll be charged an additional fee when you rent the car. Total ripoff if you ask me! Neither Hertz/Enterprise on Granville charge this bogus additional fee. If there's additional fees, they should be brought up at the time of making the reservation. NOT when you rent the car...Isn't that the whole point of "pre-pay"?

As my car needed repair for a hit and run. I was able to have a rental. The lady named Nicole from Thrifty told me I need to refill the gas tank when done , if not they will charge me $3.99 a Ltr.(WOW). Luckily I checked the gas gauge prior to using ,it was a whole notch lower than full. I told her about it, she came and took a look and told me that it could be Faulty ( The vehicle was a brand new Hyundai Tucson 2018 with 1780km on it ) She did say if there was a discrepancy in the return she would reimburse me $10.00. I brought it back full. I am still waiting for this reimbursement . Extremely sad they do not honour what they say. I recently had my car vandalized and after spending all morning dealing with insurance and trying to find a car rental, I found one available at this location. They required a $500 hold on a credit card for a day and a half rental but did not notify me of this until I arrived via taxi at the location. I could pre-authorize $250 until my credit card company could process a payment but they refused to allow this. With children to pick up from school and meetings to attend, I was left with no vehicle as by this time, no other rental agency in town had availablity. Sad that small businesses like these cannot be more accommodating and that the amount required is so high! I have booked cars for $150-200 hold but never $500. Customers should at least be notified! The customer service was not good and the agents were very dismissive. They have lost at least one customer. Very very disappointed!

I arrived 15 minutes early for my rental reservation and ended up waiting in line for 45 minutes. When I get to the desk to get my rental, I was told that a 2 day minimum rental is required even though I was allowed to make a reservation for one day online. After agreeing to a two day rental which I did not want, I was told that they couldn't add a day on the reservation and they would be unable to rent me a car. This caused me to be late for a wine tour reservation which was pre paid. I've used Hertz constantly for the last year and I'm disappointed to say I will not be using their services again after this experience. I would not recommend this location

Worst rental experience I've had. I got rushed through the process because the guy wanted to go home as it was right on 5.00pm. Next, one day into my 10 day trip I got a phone call to tell me the price of my insurance had gone up $200 because they had made a mistake. Then after returning and paying for the rental, found out my card was charged twice! After consulting with staff about this they said they would talk to the manager and get back to me. They didn't, I'm still trying to get hold of them to get my money back.

I want to start off by saying don't believe everything you read. I rented a car first time from Thrifty and had my vehicle for 3 weeks. I dealt with Barbara and from the start she did everything possible to make sure my experience was amazing. I was given a beautiful clean car I have no issues and a contact number in case I did. I return the vehicle after three weeks and had the same exceptional service. Their price is amazing but the service is out of this world. I live in Halifax that needed a car for 3 weeks while my car was being repaired. I will rent from no other place going forward then Thrifty Car Rental located at the Westin Hotel downtown. Feel free to contact me and I will definitely give them very high marks for exceptional service, great low price and in my books, the best. I give them a 10 out of 10

We had a terrible experience renting from Hertz here. They originally accepted my partner’s licence but declined it when we arrived for pick up. We had to change myself to be the driver and add insurance as I do not have any personally. Although we asked for the maximum insurance, when our tire went flat and emergency roadside assistance took two hour long phone calls to get through to and we had to drive on a flat 30 minutes opposite the direction of travel and waited 17h to resolve one flat tire, they said we did not have the maximum insurance.

This is a scam, they tell you the car you reserved is not available but will happily upgrade you to a Durango for free, they then charge you without knowledge for the upgrade, hoping you won't read the fine print. Very poor service. I booked a rental with them a month in advance of arriving. When I did arrive they had nothing available for me. Not a single vehicle was available! After walking away to go to another car rental company I was told a car had just arrived and was being cleaned for me. So he swiped my credit card and did all the paper work. When I went to the vehicle it was not cleaned and was not even a car at all, it was a mini van. This company will not accommodate your requests or even work to fix they're mistakes. These guys are a joke and I HIGHLY recommend that you stay away from them.

Rented a few times from these guys. I am preferred member on AV** but they're out of town (15min drive). This location is in the neighbor (beside home) and gave them some businesses, but ALWAYS try to upsell every possible way with bad services. And no discount rates offered for weekly or monthly. I have been long term renting from other companies at 1-2 month at a time for few years now. This place was the worst so far. Make sure to go through receipts carefully. I only take damage waiver now, because I had to pay over thousand once when there was thin scratch on the front door and the dent on the back door ( size of nail tip one's Id never care on my own car) for repainting the whole thing. Last two rentals, car was not clean, very damaged (didnt matter to me very much). I even had to take pictures not to be liable later. Overcharged with lower car group (booked midsize, i was offered smaller one, and they said I have to pay upgrade for my booked one @ extra 10$/day). Upon return, they also tried to add $$$ on additional mileages which i did not do (had made one 100km round trip). Would not have noticed any of these thing unless I was enquired about each overcharged item. Will never return after my last rental experience. Too many honest mistakes doesnt make it seem like one.

terrible experience. we reserved for a car at 11am. First, the lady Monica told us we need to wait as we arrived early, then we were told the manager will take us to another store as they don't have the car available. Well, the manager Joe never showed up. She then called taxi to get us to the other store. The taxi she called can only take 4 passengers. we are 5 people with 5 bags. She explained that it is very difficult to count it right under stress. She called another taxi, and another. 3 taxis came. All in same size, and can't handle 5 passengers. I asked if we can use 2 taxi. the answer is no. I then asked if I can talk to the manager. She said manager Joe is out of town... then she disappeared herself.... My paretns are over 80 years old, waited under the sun for over 30 minutes, as per her statement, the right size Taxi will show up in a minute.... We could not find the taxi, or herself.... Her colleague took our case, called the right size taxi (thank god) and told us we are all in good hands. Well, the driver did not know where to go... and asked us to pay the bill when we finally arrived.... this one day car rental cost us over 150 dollars, and Due to all these chaos, we missed the ferry to Victoria and ruined our only day in Vancouver. I am not sure if this lady Monica has given any proper training to perform her job. Is It too high of an expectation to have the car ready as reserved or at least call the right size of taxi to fit 5 passengers?? the last but not least, when I asked her to write down her last name, she pulled and destroyed her own note out of my hand, as apparently she wrote her managers' last name on the note,... what kind of service is this?? we have traveled many countries, this is the worst car rental we experienced. If you have booked your car through here, be super careful as most likely you will not get it as you expected.

The lady checking me in was polite, pleasant and explained everything. The car was brand new under 10,000 km. Returning the vehicle was easy as well. I paid exactly what I was quoted when I made the reservation.

I have rented cars for years through Enterprise car rentals (now National, I believe), and Thrifty Care Rental was my worst experience. In fact, I have never had a bad experience with Enterprise. First, there is the delay in picking up the car at the office on Seymour because they only have one person working. Second, the staff person gives out misinformation about insurance. Third, are the issues of staff culture and service. Perhaps because he is overworked, the person at the front desk was surly. This was also true of the individual in the parking lot who was cleaning the cars: rude and unhelpful. Fourth, and most problematic, the customer service line for modifying reservations is impossible to navigate. I was cut-off and waited endlessly each time I called. The lines are always impossibly noisy and it's challenging to hear the service staff. On my last attempt, I almost gave up. Finally, the car I rented, which was the economy car because I always rent the economy car, was unbelievably uncomfortable, even for short distances. I have never had an issue with any car in this regard, but the Chevy Spark has many bad design features, including the extremely bad seat and head rest design, as well as the poor air conditioning and the bad visibility.

Hi readers, I rented a car on June 9th 2020 Until June 13th 2020. I was supposed to be charged a 200 dollar deposit which was incorrect because I actually was charged $897.00. It was technically a hold on my credit card but still an inconvenience trying to have the issue fixed. I even said to the customer service representative that there was an error However he continued to say I was wrong even though the printed off rented agreement stated that. Yet he continued to say I was wrong. To make matters worse I was given a Vehicle that I wasn't satisfied with and was supposed to have unlimited K/M However that wasn't the case. It just seemed as though I was having issue after issue. On June 10th 2020 the following morning I was in contact with a customer service representative named Wanda and told her I had several issues wrong with my booking and we agreed that I should visit St. John's international airport to fix the issues and address my concerns. She did help correct each and every mistake that was wrong on that day and also helped me switch vehicles which I was also satisfied with. Upon picking up my new rental it was supposed to have a full tank of gas but It ended having only a half a tank, Again I called and spoke to Wanda and had the issue corrected. Yesterday on June 13 2020 I returned with my Vehicle and was again greeted with Wanda and told her the vehicle was fine and I enjoyed it. Then we were proceeding to print off a copy of my recipe and we noticed that I was being charged a late fee when in fact my vehicle wasn't late. She had to correct that as well. Honestly She did amazing and made my experience leaving feeling at ease. I did mention perhaps some type of compensation for all the troubles I endured but didn't get anywhere. It's probably just policy not too be able to have some leeway when these problems occur. Would I recommend Thrifty? I honestly can't answer that question because everyone's experience will be different. Wanda was good at fixing up this complete mess and found she did a good job but on the other hand the first representative who created this entire mess didn't have a clue. At the end of it all I wasn't completely satisfied However I wasn't completely dissatisfied either.

The older man that works there - he’s lovely ... The manager? She is completely disorganized and unprofessional. The people at the desk lack some serious communication skills. I rented a car - the manager pulled it around and said “there’s no major damage” andthat was it. She gave me the key. Didn’t go through any of the features of the car - didn’t do a walk around to see the condition of it. She then gives me the paperwork - completely different car is listed on my agreement. Later that day she calls me to come back so she can switch out the insurance papers because the they had the wrong papers in the car. Good thing I took a picture of the car before I left the lot. It did have damage. When I returned the car - the first thing the manager said was “oh what happened?” I’m Like - are you serious? This is how it was when you gave it to me. I have a picture I took of it the morning of the rental. So then she’s like “oh yah... this one has a claim against it from previous driver who had backed into a curb or something To top it all off - I left a CD in the car and realized after I left. I called to ask someone if they could check and they said they would get back to me. No one got back to me. I called back the next day and again someone was supposed to call me back - obviously they didn’t. So I called back a third time and it was someone who doesn’t normally work at that location - she checked for me and called me back in 3 minutes saying she found the CD. She also said they should have checked and it was the easiest thing to do. So - all in all - if you catch them on a day where somebody from a different location is working there - you’re in luck! She really was great. The manager does not know or care how to run her business She doesn’t keep track of her cars - doesn’t return phone calls and really seems not to care. I’m sure she’s losing a lot of money...

Bait and Switch and car STUNK of drugs I booked a full sized car, I was given a compact. A compact with several dings and marks. As I was in a hurry to get out of the city to get to a meeting I accepted the car. During my attempt to escape rush hour and ensure that I made it to my meeting on time, I realized that the car REEKED of Marijuana. When I called I was told that I could turn around in rush hour traffic to take a car that had damage. I drove with the windows down most of the drive, in freezing weather, hoping the smell would not stick to my coat, clothing or bag. No such luck, I arrived freezing and smelling like a Bob Marley cover band concert. They did provide me with a properly sized car and discount the next day.

We rented a car for a week from Thrifty in October 2018. They were fantastic. The car was ready immediately and we were upgraded to the next level up. The car was in great condition, near new. The best bit is that I left my expensive headphones in the car but didn't know where I had lost them. Thrifty rang me and the Manager Joe Franz was great to deal with and helped me to get them back to Australia. It would have been so easy for these to simply disappear into someone's bag and I am deeply impressed at their staff honesty. Thank you Joe and your staff!!!

They are friendly, they have the best prices in town, and sometimes because of logistics issues you have to be flexible with what vehicle you get. Mine has ALWAYS been an upgrade to a better vehicle/SUV though. I don't really get the above complaints, most of them are common things when ordering a vehicle rental. Be kind to the people you're dealing with, be flexible with the vehicle you get, and they'll always treat you right the next time you come in. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION!!!! I rented a minivan for 2 days and dropped the vehicle off after hours. After I dropped the keys into the lockbox, I realized that I left my cell phone in the back seat. IT TOOK ME A WEEK TO GET MY CELL PHONE BACK!!! First, I tried calling and no one seems to want to answer. After calling, the woman, Anne, said that they had not cleaned my car yet, but that she would tell them about the cell phone. Anne then advised me to call back in 2 hours. After calling back in 2 hours, Anne said, "we didn't find a cell phone in the back and the vehicle has already been rented". After I insisted that my cell phone was in the vehicle, Anne called the renter who did find the cell phone. Unbelievable! A layperson was able to find my cell phone but the "professional" people at Dollar could not! Anne said I can come pick up my cell phone the next day as that was the day the vehicle would be returned. Again, I called the next day (after already trying to get through ten times) and Anne said I would have to wait for the next day because the people didn't return the vehicle yet! I was not happy, and when I tried to point out to Anne that all of this could have been prevented if she had informed the cleaners to look for my cell phone BEFORE they rented it, she hung up on me. I called the Dollar Rent Car national customer service, I called BCAA who was the intermediary in this whole fiasco...All tried to get the Dollar Rent a Car (Thirty) at Seymour to respond and resolve my missing cell phone. They tried contacting the Manager, Joe, but he refused to get on the phone!! Finally, BCAA told me that the vehicle was at the Dollar Rent a Car at the airport. I called the Dollar Rent a Car at the airport, who then advised me that they found the cell phone, but because there were no notes in the system regarding the cell phone, they didn't hold the phone for me. Instead, "Joe" from the Seymour office went to pick it up. I then spent the next two days leaving messages on Joe's cell phone to arrange to pick up my cell phone. Finally, after 8 DAYS!!!!, "Anne" emailed me to say to come pick up my phone. Once I got my phone, I noticed that someone had DELETED ALL MY CONTACTS AND PICTURES!! DOLLAR RENT A CAR ON SEYMOUR STREET are SHADY, RUDE, INEFFICIENT PEOPLE! DO NOT RENT FOR HERE!!!!!

Booked a car here a month and a half in advance and got called a day before my rental on a Sunday to tell me that my car was cancelled. I was visiting from out of province and was left in a bind. The people at the place weren’t very helpful but the manager informed us that they frequently get overbooked and they can’t help that. We were told to call customer care so we did and I was given a multitude of excuses for why this happened. The final excuse was that I booked through a third party website, which wasn’t true because I had email proof that I booked through their site. When asked what site it was I was given three random different ones I had never heard of. Would not recommend booking here ever.

Had an SUV (Jeep cheroke) booked 5 months ago confirmed and paid for for an 8am pick up. We turn up this morning at 8am to be told that they don't have any SUVs they can offer us a small car or a caravan. We are then told that some will be coming in within an hour and we can wait. 45mins passed and we asked for an update and they then said that they cant promise any SUVs will arrive but we can wait ans see.1 hour later we come back only to find that no SUV's arrived. We waited another 30mins before eventually taking the caravan on our day trip, while we waited a further 2 groups of people arrived with the same problem. We came back later in the day after rushing around, due to the delay, to see if we can exchange it for an SUV but still none and a further 2 couples waiting for the same vehicle. No one was able to call around or give us any information as to when we can actually get what we paid for and we are just told that they will call us! To top this all off this was our honeymoon! Very very disappointed with thrifty. Would not recommend wasting your time with this company at all.

Worst service ever. Booked over a month ago and got a call with less than 24 hrs to the pick up time that they don’t have a car after receiving multiple confirmation emails up to that point. The customer service is completely useless, they just say we don’t have a car and good luck finding another one. No compensation, no credit given, if you ask the service agent to talk to the supervisor they will always be busy. If you do end up booking with these guys, make sure to book with multiple other companies at the same time for back up. Customers need do to multiple bookings and cancel last minute similar to how these companies do.

Worst rental experience ever!!!! I should have read the reviews before booking with them. Returned the car today, got charged $250 bucks for a tiny bit chip on the windshield. When I was trying to argue, the girl cut me off and saying ``I dont need to talk to you``(my hubby signed the contract). And when my hubby was talking, she cut him off and always want to push us to pay and blamed that we did not purchase the insurance and did not check the car thoroughly before left. It has to be some kind of strong hit to cause the chip, but truth was nothing happened. No matter what, I dont think any customer should deserve such rude services. It feels like you are not allowed to talk or argue. So lesson learned, bring a magnifier and camera if you want to rent from them or just stay away!!! will make a dispute anyway...

Worst experience ever from Thrifty Vancouver Seymour Street downtown. Death Trap rental company. Booked a car for 34 days from 3 February only to leave the city and find the rear slipping all over the place. Initially thought it was winter road conditions but it became progressively worse. Drove from Vancouver to Jasper and called Thrifty to be advised they can do a tow from Jasper to Edmonton and replace vehicle but would be about 5 hours and we would have to accompany vehicle. Advised them not an option and advised will speak with Hertz in Lake Louise. Drove to Lake Louise and then checked the tyres. It turns out the rear tyres were bald. Hertz Lake Louise liaised with Hertz Banff as that was our next stop. Frank from Hertz Banff totally went out of his way as a Hertz employee to liaise with Thrifty and called me twice with updates. He did what he said even though he could not guarantee a positive outcome. Frank arranged a swap out if we could drive to Calgary International and meet Surinderpal who would look after us. Frank also urged us not to do the tow as we would have to pay a small fortune due to our location. Thrifty contact centre made no mention of this - in fact they were pushing to do the tow even though I suggested we could safely drive to Calgary which suggests a kickback scenario where Thrifty benefits. We drove to Calgary and to say the staff at Calgary International Airport Hertz Thrifty were ‘horrified’ we were given a car with bald tyres for a month would be an understatement. We were put in a car that was an accident waiting to happen. Thrifty Vancouver Downtown - you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Go elsewhere! Quite possibly the worst rental experience I've come across. FALSE HOURS - Location is shown to be open until 6PM - it is only open until 5pm. So when it comes time to grab your vehicle after work for your weekend getaway, be prepared to be met with locked doors. We had to delay our trip by a day because of this. I explained this at the counter and was met with zero empathy or compensation. We even paid for the extra day's rental. Harsh. HIDDEN INSURANCE FEE - Our 4-day rental fee more than doubled to purchase insurance to cover the rental vehicle (third-party is included). We asked about an approximate cost beforehand when booking over the phone, and the agent said it would "depend" and we'd have to confirm during check-in. How convenient that you don't find this out until after booking. HIDDEN FILL UP FEE - We filled up in Kitsilano, my partner drove me to work in Olympic Village, and then proceeded to drop the car off. About $5 worth of gas was probably spent; apparently the tank indicated as full. Still, we were charged $45 to fill the car up. This is absurd! Never again.

Customer service at the front desk and return inspection was the worst experience I have ever had with renting a car. The front desk clerk wouldn't come with me to inspect the car, rather wanted me to sign that it was inspected and send a photo if I found something, which I did as there as ding in the back bumper. T he cars are parked in the lower level neighbouring parkade and no assistance or escort is provided. Upon return, I waited my turn in line, and was told to take it back to the lower level of parkade for an inspection. I met with the "inspector' who was so rude. He told me that I needed to go back to the office for a receipt. I said no as I had spent enough time and had a meeting. With any other rental, I have been provided with a receipt upon inspection. I asked for a emailed receipt, which has not been sent yet (24 hours later). I would NEVER, recommend this location.

K, was just in town for a conference. They got us a car short notice. Was going to rent us a truck. Someone dropped a car back and we asked if we could have it instead. No problem they said. Did a walk around car was clean. It was slightly dinged up. It's not my vehicle. What do I care if there's a couple rock chips? If anything it makes me feel better about driving it because you can't make it worse hahaha. Woman at the desk was friendly and talkative. Maybe the previous reviewers are the problem? Used the key drop off. Dropped off car in middle of the night. 250 deposit is off my card and the charges that were expected in its place. Nothing to complain about here.

Initial rental okay but don't get a chip in the windshield!!! It took three weeks of me calling them, and leaving messages for the manager, to get a copy of the repair invoice. I only received it because an employee felt sorry for me and was frustrated because I spoke to him every two days. Six weeks later and the insurance company is leaving email and sending email to get documentation and no response. Meanwhile, I am out $484!!!

This place would have gotten more stars had they have informed and reliable staff. I usually book a car from them online so the pricing is good and the car is always nice and clean, but the staff didn't give correct information over the phone. If you have a question about charges or anything that can affect your bills, you'd be better off going to the branch and ask. Make sure you write down the name of the person who gives you the information so you can hold that person accountable for what he/she is saying, otherwise you'll be left with unexpected charges that you were told you won't be charged for.

The overall rental was decent: a cleanish, reliable car for low price. But I was told that I could pay with debit after reserving with credit card only to find after returning the car that they could not take debit cards. Either staff were misinformed or I was lied to in order to get my business. Other suggestions: 1. have employees wearing some kind of identification so that when random men demand keys in the basement of the parking ramp it is less unnerving. 2. have an employee accompany customers to their rental car for intitial inspection so customers aren't required to find on-street parking in front of the office if there is damage.

What great service we got from these people! I had to divert my small aircraft to the Trenton airport due to bad weather in Halifax, and these folks not only stayed late so I could get a car and drive home that night, but they even waited for me to land and picked me up at the airport. The rate was reasonable, and when I returned the car the next day, they happily drove me back to the airport. I would totally recommend this company - great service with a smile!

would gave this place a zero.. Had a reservation set in the summer, called the night before to confirm and they say they have the vehicle on their lot. Next moring comes i go in and they tell me the car isnt avaible anymore cause they gave it out.. the car that i resevered weeks in advance. Ended up getting gutless Accent. Whatever a car is a car. Returned the vehicle, i get my credit card statemt. They overcharged me close to $500 from July until this day (November)havent received the refund.. If you are moving or planning to move, stay away from this place. I made a reservation last week in this location for cargo van rental. I came today to pick up the truck and found out that previous renter decided to extend rental for another day. Basically, I'm without car which I needed for a small move. I took day off from work, I booked elevator and all for nothing. Thrifty Car Rental feels not responsible for this situation. There was simple 'we are sorry'. How is this business operating? I only had a small move which I can easily reschedule. Yes, I lost one day vacation from work, but don't even want to think if someone has a big move, arranged people and all other things. I'm extremely disappointed with this place. Don't recommend to anybody. Sorry.

Despite the lower prices here, I encourage you to spend that bit more at alternative, more professional car rental offices in the surrounding area. It took us 1 hour and 30 minutes to pick up the rental car, due to "GPS being unavailable", even though we had pre-booked and pre-paid for GPS to be included with our vehicle. After explaining that we were foreign to Canada and absolutely needed GPS, the agent finally agreed to give us a different car which had GPS pre-installed. I still don't know to this day, why this solution was only offered to us one whole hour after arriving at the branch? Had we not fought our corner, we could have easily left Thrifty with an inferior car and no GPS. This new car of ours was not even ready however, and when it was eventually ready, neither was it clean. We ended up missing our ferry to Vancouver Island, due to lateness, and had to wait another three hours for the next available ferry. In total then, a 4.5 hour time delay, all because these guys can't be bothered to prepare their cars for paying customers in advance!! Upon returning the vehicle, we left a belonging of ours in the trunk. After being cleaned, the item magically disappeared and was to never be seen again. What's more, there seemed to be this whole issue with using Mastercard to pay for the booking, even though they have the Mastercard symbol as a method of payment plastered on the front desk? Again having no other available card to pay, we fought our corner, and the agent finally accepted our Mastercard. In the end, it took 45 minutes to complete the return of the vehicle. Recurring theme here? Quite simply, this was an absolutely horrendous experience. The staff do not care about your complaints either, and have the attitude that they are right, and that the customer is always wrong. It was only when I took my complaint to Thrifty Head Office, that I received some compensation. Looking at other reviews, this branch of Thrifty seems to take and take customer reservations, but fails to deliver on any of them successfully. I have never come across such unprofessional, unsympathetic and rude staff members. Please avoid!!

Terrible service! Reserved full size car at least 10 days in advance. At the time of pickup, they tried to switch me into a compact for the same price. Then they gave me the option of waiting 45 minutes for my full size car, or taking a low quality small SUV (Compass). Tried to charge me taxes on the vehicle, which had all been pre-paid through RBC Rewards. Interior of the car had not been cleaned properly and it was not full of gas. Do NOT recommend this supplier. And from their canned reply, apparently they've also lost my phone number.

Only one manned counter. Long queue to pick up the car even though we already had a reservation. The woman behind the counter was very slow - we came in and she had been serving a man, we waited for 20 minutes and she was still serving the same man. The same person processes the reservation and then leaves the counter to go pick up the car too. You can imagine how slow and inefficient the process is. Don’t rent from here if you want to waste holiday time waiting.

Worst customer service. Mangers is very unprofessional. Had a worst experience ever. People working there are not giving proper information. One is saying something and another is saying different thing. They are rude. They charged me 500$ on my credit card even though i paid everything with my debit when I returned the car. I called the location and asked them for charging my that money the guy answered like “ i dont know anything about it you need to talk to my manger on monday” i got overlimit on my credit already and i need to wait another 2 days for figuring that out. They dont know how to talk to the customer. They cannot take money out from someone’s credit card without getting any authorization. I will file a case against this.

I booked a rental car with Thrifty 6 months in advance - in February 2021 for a family vacation in August. All charges were prepaid. When I arrived to Vancouver airport with my family, I realized that I didn’t have my credit card with me. The person at the counter then refused to give me the car and went out of his way not to help me. He refused to accept Visa debit, cash, or any of my wife’s credit cards. Again, the rental was fully paid for in advance, they just needed a security deposit blocked on a credit card. I realize that not having one was a mess up on my part, but again, the clerk went out of his way not to help us. It clearly was not about the security hold, because we offered a number of ways for them to have security. What the clerk did offer was to rent us the same vehicle under my wife’s name for 3 times the price!! I honestly thought sleazy tactics like this existed only in the movies about scummy salesmen from the 1970s, but hey, Thriftys can offer this experience today. Coincidentally there were 3 people in front of us in the lineup - all of which were really upset with the way they were being treated. One customer was filming her interaction and the clerk threatened to call the police to remove her. I ended up canceling this reservation and renting from another company. Thrifty ruined the start of our trip with their mickey-mouse sham. I only gave 1 star because less is not allowed here.

"Hey your pickup time is at 6" but be warned we close and lock the doots at 6 Shows up at 610 cause of rush hour and not seeing it in the plaza. Then argues with us that if we showed on time she would of let us in. After she shook her head behind the counter she finally let us in. Place smelled like weed which is why she probably didnt want us in. The Car we picked up had a bottles of alcohol in the glove compartment. Lol drops it off at 630 and were charged an extra day even though the keys are there in the morning to rent to someone else. What a joke. Save your money call up enterprise. It was recommended through work but that flyer has been removed
