I had some extremely negative experiences as a child with Edith Beihn and Ellen Jaffe in the late 90s-early 2000s when it was known as the Family Counselling Centre of Brant. Edith was instrumental in breaking apart my parents marriage instead of helping it and her "counselling" only made my mother's mental illness worse. She offered family counseling when she was already seeing my mother privately, which is a conflict of interest. She also seemed very misandrist from the onset. She thought it was her job to decide whether a client should get a divorce, instead of it being the client's decision. If she was in any way competent she would have referred my mother to a psychiatrist to get back on her medication. Ellen Jaffe violated my confidentiality as a child. She was supposed to be my counsellor but ended up meeting with my abusive mother privately and then inviting her without any forewarning to one of my counselling sessions. She even had the seats arranged so that she and my mother were sitting beside each other directly facing me, it is not difficult to understand that physical dynamic as two-on-one confrontational body language. I felt ambushed and violated and it really turned me off of counselling. Ellen, was your job to help me as your client or to advocate for my abusive unstable mother? Child clients are still clients and are entitled to confidentiality and trust. Very unethical.
