Had to bring non ambulatory mother(82) in for some xrays . The front entrance greeter / hall monitor acted like she was doing me a favour letting me in to assist . When I asked to use the washroom she said there wasn’t one and only for actual patients . I then told her that was unacceptable even during Covid times and where were people to go ?? In the bush ?? This was August 13 th at 1:30pm. She needs to work on her people skills as well as learn a bit of empathy.

I went in for a pain and selling on my right side. Found out the cyst on the liver has grown to over 12cm! The care I was provided was prompt and personable. I was referred to a surgeon that night. But! I went back in, as instructed, when the pain changed and had increased. As soon as 6pm came close, they sent in the 'hench-doctor' to clear out emergency beds. He was very rough and ignorant. Very little concern as he roughly checked the pain area causing me more pain. This was the very first time I had encountered a doctor with no bedside manner at all! Otherwise, the nurses are great no matter what shift. You take your chances with doctors only once in awhile. Wait times are not too long, take a book to pass the time. With Covid you can't have anyone come in with you.

Nurse Bob treated us with love, compassion, and care. He's one of a kind - what a guy :)

Kind and courteous nurses. My family and I have always been treated well both in the main hospital and the emergency department.

Beautiful totem poles symbolizing respect to First Nations communities at the entrance to the hospital.

In the ER no call button and it took them 3 minutes to get to me while I was having a seizure. My nurse was horrible to me, wouldn't even let me get up. Go anywhere but here

Been to two other hospitals (Vancouver general, royal jubilee) both falling to diagnose a Sevier testicle pain. Both off these took 5 hours to go though checks. This took 3 and I've been prescript antibiotics for an testicluler infection. Nice doctors everything perfectly sorted

The team here took care of my Grandpa in the last days of his life. They treated him with dignity and respect and I always appreciate this so much.

No waiting lines here. If you get to choose a hospital to visit, this would be my #1 choice even if it is more of a drive. The facility looks a little dated, but has very nice personable staff. I will photpgrah the parking rates. The cafeteria was so reasonable I couldn't believe it: a big plate of delicious Butter Chicken & Jasmine rice was $6.50, making it about the cheapest place to do dine (not that you would go there just to eat).

So I went in to the emergency room for a potentially slipped disc i had called my GP and she asked for a cat scan so I can meet with her later this month and discuss treatment. When I went in at ten am I proceeded to the screening and then to triage where at 1015 is was given my only ice pack no one in waiting room and remember i am just there for a scan few people come in and get bumped a head of me fine where my anger comes in is at 430 after spending umpteen hours in the waiting and in the room waiting for a doctor a doctor comes in and says they wont do a ct scan for another five weeks I explained how my gp asked me to come in and get the scan I’m not here for prescriptions or even a plan of action my gp and I will figure that out. I was told there was nothing they could do to help me. Wasted day terrible institution i would rather wait and get treated at RJH or VGH

Shot a nail through my thumb and went to the ER for service. The staff was great, friendly and efficient. Thank you very much for helping me in my time of need, it was a very positive experience out of a negative problem.

If you're of First Nations decent. I would not recommend seeking treatment at this location what so ever. I suffered 2 slipped discs in my lower back. The ambulance medic I called to bring me into the hospital were extremely insensitive towards my needs and concerns. Asking "why did you call us. You didn't need to call." Remarking that "Your body's not awake yet. Just wait an hour or so you'll be fine." Meanwhile I couldn't even walk. Than when I get into Triage: I was not even allowed to speak with anyone in triage in person. I can hear the medic saying "He only wants drugs . . Make sure he doesn't get any." After 3 hours of sitting. No scans . No real examinations. I was prescribed over the counter Tylenol. sent on my way. I spent 3 weeks bed ridden. If I had the option to rate a zero star review I would .

With the walk in clinics closed and telehealth appointments booked up for weeks, the only way left to see a doctor for an acute medical problem is to go to the emergency room and wait 3-4 hours. Aside from the unavoidable wait, I got top notch treatment all around. Nice triage nurse and a great and talented ER doctor.

I only visited my girl friend but it was a good experience thnx dave

I really appreciate the nurse but for the doctors??? Very disappointed...

The receptionist at the information, went out of her way to help me find me what I needed. All the while with a smile on her face!

In and out of the ER very fast with my 2 y.o son. The staff was very friendly and the doctor was thorough. Very reasonable parking rates, too!

Had elective surgery here August 2020, staff were considerate, compassionate, and courteous throughout. Thank you so much!

I had my top surgery done today at this hospital. The surgical daycare staff were friendly and incredibly respectful of me and my pronouns. They made me feel very welcomed and comfortable. The surgical staff did an amazing job and kept my spirits high the whole time. The hospital was clean, organized, and followed COVID protocols to a tee. 12/10 would get surgery done there again. Thanks for everything, and makensure to thank the staff for me!

I've been in as a day patient for both cataract surgery (replacement with artificial intraocular lens) & capsulotomy a procedure (uses a YAG 1.09 um wave length laser) that takes not more than 15 mins and add in prep time inclusive waiting time to be not more than an hour. Note, the $2.75 parking time covers 2 hours was sufficed. I've also been in for an emergency check in. 1 was chest pain after shovelling snow at home other was severe diarrhea that taking counter imodium fail to fix the issue. The wait times on both instances was over an hour. By the time I was diagnose & admitted for day observation total between 4 - 6 hours until the various examination, drips, oral medicine given. Those visits were effective to eliminate my problems. My opinion was that the staff were patient knowledgeable, professional and made me feel concern & caring. Today's minor laser procedure took less than 5 mins but the "drops" to my eyes administered I had to wait for 1/2 hour to maximize the iris opening. Than walk out of San Pen to return home all in a "days" work.

I have just come out of surgery today with Dr. Chris Taylor (full mastectomy, Gender affirming chest reconstruction) and I have never had surgery before, been hospitalized or been put under. I was very nervous and even though it's not like I expected anyone to be unkind, I am utterly blown away by how friendly and compassionate and patient the staff were. Throughout every single step of pre-OP rooms and with the anesthesiologist before going into the OR, I felt cared for and considered. Staff made me feel comfortable and always tried to make me smile and feel safe. Not only that but they were also so respectful on all occasions with my pronouns and chosen name. I am so incredibly grateful to the people who made this experience so wonderful and positive. Surgery is a vulnerable time but can be even more so in a surgery like this, and when it's your first time. Thank you so so much to all the staff who made this day so wonderful for me. You've touched my heart.

Awesome staff on New Years Eve, small friendly efficient team.

Great care by the nursing staff and most of the doctors for my elderly mom. Would not hesitate to come again.

The docs, nurses & staff here are incredible; So calm, friendly & professional. It was stressful having to go to the ER but every step of the way everybody was so reassuring & knowledgeable, I could trust I was in good hands. It takes really special people to be able to create such an environment. Huge respect and admiration.

I am in the Saan. Peninsula Hospital Surgical Daycare waiting for a minor surgical procedure and have observed the nurse “Kim” put 3 patients, one after the other into an exam room and onto a stretcher without having room or stretcher/linens changed or cleaned in between. Unbelievable.

In the hospital's Extended Care Unit, the long term care beds are very old, and cramped. The ECU has 116 beds in shared 4 bed wards. It is a decrepit warehouse for the elderly. It is extremely difficult to maintain proper infection control for COVID in these 4 bed wards. These wards should be shut down and replaced by a modern care home with single private rooms.

Staff and surgeon were just fantastic. I was met with smiles, caring and compassion. The hospital is clean and well maintained. What an asset to the health care on Vancouver Island! Elizabeth

A month or so ago, I went to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital ER (on the advice of the nurse from 811) as I was experiencing a full body hive reaction to something - eyes and face were swollen, body was itchy and aching; walking was difficult. Days earlier I had my bottom two wisdom teeth removed, under anesthetic, and was taking painkillers with codeine and antibiotics. I was likely experiencing an allergic reaction to one of these new meds. Two days before going to the ER, when the hives first started (and were at their lowest) I stopped taking all the medicines I had been prescribed post surgery, and started taking large amounts of antihistamines - on the instruction of my oral surgeon who I had called asking for advice on the reaction. The hives did not go away, so (as mentioned) on the advice of the nurse from 811, I went to the ER. Immediately, I was not treated with any seriousness. I don't even think I was actually admitted appropriately or entered in to their system at check-in. I was told to sit in the waiting room, where they hooked up a portable heart monitor to my finger. My heart was racing (as it had been for 2 days) and the monitor was constantly pinging to alert staff of my elevated heart rate (a point to make, hospitals do not make me nervous and my heart rate was not elevated because of this). A nurse came over and UNHOOKED my heart rate monitor explaining that it was pinging too much. I am not a medical professional, but under what circumstances, in an ER, is it appropriate to unhook a device that is alerting you to an abnormality in a patients health? Further shenanigans, I was not admitted in to triage - the nurse available did not take me in to the exam room, I was not given a wrist band to show my admission. I was given two antihistamines and told to 'wait it out'. So I did - for about 3 hours (which is perfectly normal at an ER, I recognize that). The symptoms did not go away, I was still swollen, itchy and had an elevated heart rate (which they would have been aware of if they hadn't unhooked the monitor). Eventually, I was taken in to a side room by a doctor who told me that since my reaction wasn't anaphylactic, I could just 'ride it out'. The doctor suspected I was having a reaction to either the codeine or the antibiotic and agreed that I should keep from taking them - WITHOUT offering an alternative. I was not prescribed any different pain medicines or antibiotics and was subsequently dismissed. This was a very disheartening experience. I expect better, even for concerns that are not immediately life threatening. No tests were run, no physical examination - the doctor did not even roll up my sleeves to look at my hives - I was not asked to remove my mask so the doctor could better view the swelling in my face. I am limited in my options for emergency health, given where I live and that I do not have access to a vehicle - and Saanich Peninsula Hospital is my closest and only reasonable option. My hope is that I never have to experience their ER again, for any reason - not matter how seemingly minor, as I cannot imagine that they would take it seriously given my experience.

Nursing staff absolutely amazing! Cleanest hospital I've ever seen. Dietary- unappealing, tasteless. Sad way to treat people trying to feel better. Especially when meals are the only thing that break up the day and are looked for with anticipation and met with disappointment instead.

Mic

Had to visit emergeemergency on Friday morning. Checked by doctor. Given advice on how to proceed with issue. In and out in 45 minutes.

Robert Meyer

Some doctors and nurses are poor in their care and decision making. The hospital itself is just an overburdened nursing home. When you get a good doctor and good staff rotation the care is good. So it is a roll of the dice. I would travel the extra 20 minutes a go to a city hospital.

1st class service, trained professionals ( nurses doctors and support staff ) that'll take the time to listen to the patieand, find the real issue is and fix it. They literally saved my life after leaving another local hospital after being told there was nothing wrong with me. Thanks so much San Pen!... .again

PIERRE CHAREST

great service, in and out, everyone I spoke to were nice, the CT technician was super nice makes nervous people more relax Thank you for the care Pierre

San Pen is a gem of a hospital. I have used their services several times, once for a life-threatening infection, and have found them to be kind, personable, and professional. We in this area are very fortunate to have San Pen nearby.

Gerlind Wunsch

I went to the emergency last night (Dec 03 -2020) I had problems with my heart, everybody was extremely helpful and friendly. The nurse and the two doctors explained everything really well and asked if I have questions and if I understand everything. The nurse that took my blood did a great job, didn't even feel anything. I felt taken care of and safe. Even in these stressful times they were caring and nice. Thank you to the whole team!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Over 8 hours in the ER with a broken hand before I even saw a doctor. The imaging center wasnt even open when I was finally sent there by the triage nurse, meaning I had to walk around the hospital to find someone to notify the technician that they had a patient. Then I got to wait there for another hour while the technician finished whatever they were doing and made it back, just for an x-ray as the only patient who needed one. Then there was only one actual doctor on duty on a Friday night, which meant that I then had to wait for another couple hours beyond making it past the ER just for a doctor to glance at my x-ray for 15 seconds. Every single department I interacted with at this hospital was understaffed and unable to even provide an estimate on how long it would take to provide care. The administration should be ashamed.

Andre Wexford

The long term care unit is very cramped. Too many 4 bed wards which makes it easy for COVID to spread. No privacy. Poor rec therapy/activities. Not impressed.

Absolute piss poor service and care provided at this hospitals emergency room. The doctor did not seem to care much at all. I will never be back to this hospital. Only bright side was one of the nurses Bonnie, who was incredibly kind and caring other than that please avoid this hospital at all costs.

Justin McLeod

The worst medical experience of my life! I should have gone to RJ or Vic General. They were constantly short staffed and one nurse in particular would take her frustrations out on the patients. The entire nursing staff treats patients like they're demented and can't understand anything. They speak down to you and are patronizing. One nurse -- Christine I think is her name -- older woman in her 50's with almost shoulder length hair -- she's a real tool and should be fired. They all cover for each other. No one cares about doing the ethically correct thing. The whole experience was disgusting. It’s the staff. If you don't care about your personal wellbeing or a particular family member, go to Saanich Peninsula. This place is a disgrace to the Canadian health care system and should be shut down. The pudgy woman in charge of the nurses should be fired and that cow of a nurse Christine... if she were a dog, she'd be put down. There's no changing her personality or people ethic. Don’t ever ever EVER go here. You’ve been warned.

Brock Wallace

Very cliché ER. Sexy nurses, nerdy doctors, and short tempered clerks, what more can you ask for. A+ job to all who work there.

Smokus Cat

If you can make it to Vic General, keep driving.

Neal Sheppard

The operator I just talked to was not pleasant, consider replacing her!!

This place rocks. Everytime I have been there nurses were fantastic not like the hags at the Jub. Doctors great to let me stay over night because the x ray tech was coming in early in the morning. Used logic and discretion love it.

Kareena Shubaly

Emergency room was terrible. Sent to the ER by walk-in clinic. Staff very unprofessional. Doctor talking about the beer in his car. Nurse complaining loudly about a patient. Doctor did no examination. Asked a few disinterested questions and that was all.
