REVIEWS OF Lonsdale Psychology - Dr. Valerie May-Stewart IN North Vancouver

Dr. May-Stewart is a wonderful human overall and a fantastic psychologist! I've been seeing her for a few years now and I feel so lucky and so much stronger mentally. She has really helped me to navigate some challenging times in my life and helped me find ways to manage things I cannot control. She is a wonderful listener and probes with really great questions to help me identify the root of why I am feeling the way I am. From there, she helps me articulate the other perspective so that I can understand a situation in its entirety vs. just through my lens. Often when I get to this stage there is a greater amount of empathy and acceptance and this concept has brought me so much peace. I am so lucky to have coverage from my work allowing me to attend appointments monthly. I find being proactive with my mental health helps reduce the impact of challenging moments where I would otherwise have really broken down. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to continue with my therapy during the pandemic - I truly believe it has made a world of difference.

I'm giving two stars instead of one because Lori Newell wasn't malicious, just inexperienced. She worked with my teenage son and literally had no idea what to do with him. Maybe she works better with girls? I have no idea, but I wouldn't recommend her for a teen boy.

Dr. May-Stewart is a consummate professional. I've see Dr. May-Stewart for nearly 15 years during which she has helped me navigate some of life's most significant challenges and darkest of corners. I have had sessions with other psychologists and counselors but she is without question the best. I have even moved provinces and continue to see her - she's that important to my life, not something you usually say about a medical practitioner. Disregard the negative ratings you may read - in my experience they do not represent her - five stars it is.

Dr. May-Stewart and Lori Newell are amazing! Diana, the office administrator, is friendly, organized, and very helpful. The office is centrally located and it's easy to schedule appointments. Fees are more than reasonable for services provided. Highly recommend.

On and off for many years I had to see psychologists. Over the twenty or so years of going through the counselling process and finding mostly ones that just didn't know how to handle me, there had only been three that had gotten through to me. The one on the top of that list of three was Val. I have been seeing her for about three years. She was a godsend at a very trying time in my life and she got me through some dark times. She doesn't just listen, rather she hears and takes in everything in each session. It isn't just the words expressed, but she has this skill where she accurately reads my body language and she acts on it accordingly. She is very skilled and knowledgeable and has multiple techniques that tapped into my psych, which greatly helped me find some reasons for some things I have dealt with. I highly recommend her services to anyone . . . you will not be disappointed.

My science focused brain was unsure of therapy at all. I recognized that I needed some help but my skeptical brain wanted not much to do with it. Plus, I had seen a few therapists in the past and I sort of held the view that they were too "paint by numbers", in that they seemed to not really understand my situation and they were just doing the right "therapy technique". I am so glad that I went to see Val. She didn't make me feel like I was broken. She talked about the science of what we could do together and didn't make it seem like 'woo'. In not much time I worked through a tremendous amount. Val made all the difference with her keen intellect coupled with a wisdom only gained from experience. For those that think counseling might be a bit too 'woo', Val is a great choice.

Navigating troubling times is Val's specialty. She has been instrumental in assisting me to sort out personal challenges, helping me to reflect on what I was dealing with by connecting the past and present. Val is empathetic as well as pragmatic. When I was ready, she challenged me to look at my situation through a different lens and helped me open up to the unknown and trust myself during the process. If you feel you are in need of recalibration/clarity, and are willing to look inside of yourself, Val can help.

Sorry to say, But I have been very very disappointed with this Psychologist. Heartless and cold are the right attributes I have given her a ONE because she is a great Listener. Hell, that is so easy to do when U make the kind of money she charges. My honest opinion is that all she probably does is estimates the maximum number of possible visits she can squeeze out of a desperate situation. That is honestly how I felt and would definitely not recommend her. I would really hope that i never need her services again.

I have absolutely nothing but amazing things to say about this woman. She is a genuine caring intelligent thoughtful professional. She is so effective and is genuinely not a judgemental person. You honestly can feel save with anything you need help with. She literally saved my marriage and helped us as individuals. She made us exceptionally more healthy in many ways. She gave us very practical and useful tools to help us as individuals and to help us in our marriage. She has so many levels of expertise that is truly invaluable and remarkable. I have recomended her to many people. As a result many people I love have benefited from her hard work and caring touch. She is excellent both with individual work and with relationship work. I highly recommend Valorie May Stewart.
