Here you will see the information of real people who are using the products of Niagara Health - St. Catharines Site (Psychiatrist) in the area of Niagara Falls (Canada).
At the present the business gets a score of 2.7 stars out of 5 and the rating was based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, it reaches an feddbacks average is average, and it is founded on a high number of reviews, so we can say that the assessment is very credible. If many people have bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write evaluations when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Psychiatrist is classified in the category of General hospital.
Went to ER with chest/heart pain. Waited two hours to see anyone. Had ECG and bloodwork done. Waited another six hours before seeing an actual doctor to give me results. When the doctor on call finally sauntered in, he gave me very vague answers. Told me my tests showed elevated enzyme levels, and played it off like it wasn't a big deal. Told me I was fine and could go home. Literally acted like he just wanted me to leave. One week later, extreme chest pain still. Decide to go to Hamilton General (better for cardiac. Worth the trip if you can manage pain). Hamilton cardiac ward runs way more tests than St.CATHARINES, says I have pericarditis (heart lining inflammation, serious). They have to keep me overnight. Told them that St. CATHARINES turned me away, and they aren't surprised at all. Apparently they get former St. CATHARINES patients often with the same story.
The ER doctor in my opinion was the least knowledgeable person. He diagnosed me wrong and he said the surgeon will call you in 24 hours as you have to go to operation room ASAP. 5 months later haven’t heard from surgeon At least I got self treated in a week. My body knows not to trust the doctors anymore these days. Lol Generally speaking I don’t find doctors doing much anymore. Even my family doctor always says : oh don’t worry about it I also have this pain and that pain when I mention anything!!!!! A little scary and very disappointing in general !!! ????
Waits are generally long, but what hospital isn't. Prescribed medications are not always the best especially for the waiting time. It is better to take the drive to McMaster if it something for your child so they can actually prescribe something that'll make your little one better rather than make it worse. It is clean and modern with great views and updated technology.
Worst administrative staff I've ever seen at a hospital. Unfriendly, disorganized, not attentative, and frequently rude. I am grateful for the help I receive through the hospital but it's also a source of great frustration and anger when dealing with any of the non-medical staff. They genuinely seem like they don't like being there and they don't want you there either.
I am totally appalled by the lack of empathy by some staff members.Espespecially the young triage nurse with the pink and purple hair. During Christmas week, my 80 yr. old mother was in the hospital to get xrays and ultrasound done. She was there since 9:30am-6pm. Upon completion of all her testing (which they ended up doing more), she asked above said nurse to please call her a cab, explaing her time spent there with no food. This so-called nurse told her to use the pay phone. Upon which my 80 yr. old mother explained that she did not bring any cah with her. She told this person, she was very tired and just wantd a cab to go home. She promptly told my mother to go back to the area she had come from and get them to call her a cab. So she did. Upon returning to ultra sound area the Attendant graciously called her a cab. My mother when telling me this story ,was in tears. My heart was breaking for her. Teach your staff how to treat people with repect and dignity. This was one phone call asked to be made by an elderly tired person who had spent her day being probed and prodded. By the time this triage nurse, had her refusal converstion with my mother, she could have made 12 dam phone calls to the cab company. My mother has been in the nursing field all her adult life, starting at the St. Catharines General Hospital and moving on to a Long Term Care facility for the rest of her career. Never would she have ever refused any kind of request asked to her by a patient or their family. Shame on you!!!
Writing my review from the hospital after I came before yesterday for the emergency with the stomach pain, I’m going to walk through my experience in details for those who might be admitted for surgery: Let me start first that I had previous feedback with three stars but now I’m changing my review to seven stars and here are the reasons. I came to the emergency at 2 PM and completed the registration and the triage process then because there was 42 patient waiting outside I was admitted to the emergency 7:15 PM. The doctors and the nurses did the blood and urine test and saw that I need to do a city scan which was done on the spot and the result was shared in an hour, the sergeant took some time to see me about two hours but I was under medication until he came, the doctor recommended me to stay in the hospital, luckily they admitted me in the pediatric department where I had my own room for the next day, I had the most adorable nurses who made my experience seven stars Lindsay and Alyssia, they made sure to check on me frequently. My surgery was done on the following day and everything was great. Since the wifi sucked, The nurses brought me Netflix and wii device to spend some time on and this morning they brought me breakfast which I attached a picture for. Overall I have the following summary: 1. I assume that waiting time took so much due to the covid process, unfortunately, I witnessed illnesses people who were badly suffering from pain but it is our part to be careful during this pandemic as much as we can. 2. The doctors and the nurses were very helpful responsive and they always tried to answer all my questions. 3. Lindsey and Alyssia were angels in the shape of human and all the nurses were, I was so blessed to be taken care of by them
The hospital is a new facility. It's not without its flaws, but it seems to run smoothly and most of the staff are efficient and friendly. The emergency department is like any other in Ontario. Wait times are very long but that's not entirely the fault of the health system. The bottle neck wait times are full of patients with coughs, colds, bruises, and dozens of non emergency ailments best addressed by a GP or walk-in clinic.
The wait times are terrible here! My daughter went here because she had some thoughts of hurting herself and she had to wait a long time. Once she got to Pod E (Where they keep psychiatric patients when they are waiting for a doctor to assess them),The nurses took away her tablet and headphones because they were a danger to her! Why would you take a person's only source of entertainment away from them? Also the nurses told her to take off all her clothes except her underwear so she could put on a hospital gown. She left her shirt on because she didn't have a bra on and the nurses got security to remove her shirt,a little bit over the top, don't you think? She was put in a padded room and I was told to leave. When I left (the rest is from what my daughter had told me.),My daughter tried to escape. The nurses got security to pin her on a bed so the could give her some tranquilizer. And they were male security people. My daughter said she felt uncomfortable with adult males holding her down. Then she got taken to a room with restraints and a bed and they chained her to the bed. They refused to give her food or water until the morning. I'm appalled at how they treated my daughter. (This was written from my daughter's account)
Well, the doctors were very comforting when I had to be in the E.R for an intestinal blockage, so this hospital gets a 4 star rating from me
I went to carry my friend who injured his knee. People were nice and polite. we have to wait 2 hours in emergency but my friend received a good service. Thanks.
This place is great waiting times long, normal like any other hospital in Canada ????
if I could give zero stars I would. Took my friend in who had been constantly throwing up and coughing for 5 days, only to wait in an empty waiting room for 4.5 hours before being seen by a doctor. She had previously gone in 3 days ago and was given saline and then discharged. This time we spent just over 7 hours to receive more saline and an anti nausea and was then asked to leave. After talking with, and seeing how other patients were being treated by the nurses in the ER I can honestly say that this is probably the worst hospital we've been to. One pregnant patient, who was admitted before us, was left laying and throwing up on a bench and had just received an IV as we were leaving. Another gentlemen that we shared a room with had to give a urine sample, and had placed it in the bin like they had asked him to. The nurse came in and asked if he had given one yet and after he explained that he did, she replied (with an attitude) “well, we don't check the bin", and that the patient has to tell someone in order for it to be looked at. The staff at this hospital really need to work on their attitude towards patients because this is completely unacceptable.
My wife was not covered by OHIP and delivered a baby at Niagara Health System. I only have positive stuff to say about them because they didn’t rob me with extra charges. I wish them well and hope that they keep delivering word class health services to the Niagara Region.
Receptionist I called was very rude to me. I have no idea what could've warranted such.
Never had to wait less then 4 hours unless transported by ambulance. Wonderful staff in Paediatrics. Simply the best. Emergency staff all pretty awesome but Emergency intake staff (woman at the window) horrible bedside manner and complete apathy to most people's ailments. Personally wasn't much issue but wasn't pleased with the treatment some people given or the way people were spoken to.
I have always had good expériences at this hospital. The nurses here are amazing! Especially in the baby department. Only down fall about this hospital... The wait times are between 3-6 hours depending on the urgences.
Got glass in my eye and was told to go to emergency. Didn’t feel like an emergency cause my ass waited for 5 hours. It’d probably be faster for me to go to medical school and treat myself than wait at that hospital.
went to hospital emergency at 2 am. everyone from the ambulance attendants to the nurses and doctors were wonderful. they were very thorough and my only complaint is waiting but i can understand why with so few trying to help so many.
I have several life threatening intestinal diseases, and have had numerous operations due to it. Regardless of this, the staff at this hospital show me nothing but disdain and humiliation. I have been given placebos, which is against the code of ethics, and in my most recent visit, I was told my a nurse named Chad in pod b of the er, that if I didn't stop vomiting or crying for help, that he would have security throw me off the property. I have not once, not one single time in the two years that I have been going there since moving from Toronto, been treated with an ounce of dignity or respect. My own family doctor has even taken the time to write letters to the er staff, outlining my treatment plan, and pleading with them to show me kindness; to no avail. I am done with the treatment of the staff (most of the doctors except Dr. Krauss have shown me respect, this mistreatment stems fully from the nursing staff... Head nurse Brandi being the absolute worst towards me)... I will be looking into legal counsel about my rights and moving forward with legal action if need be. In the meantime, I will be contacting both patient relations and the manager of the er to file formal complaints. I am a good person that never asked for this. It is beyond my control that my mother drank while pregnant, likely causing all my suffering. Never, in a million years, could I imagine speaking to someone; even someone that I do not like, the way I have been spoken to and about during my visits. They are so heartless, that they will very loudly make fun and laugh about me in the nursing station. They don't realize the affect that this has on someone like me. It's not the disease that makes me want to give up; it's the treatment by the er staff that makes me want to just throw in the towel.
My mother (85 years old) went into the hospital at 4 a.m. and at 8 a.m. they discharged her. They called her a cab, stuck her in a wheelchair wearing only a hospital gown and red socks and pushed her to the curb. When my sister got to her apartment building she was sitting in the lobby because she had no way to get into her apartment. To top it all off, the nurse put my mothers health card in the back of the wheelchair which was of course forgotten and is now no where to be found. Is this how a hospital treats an 85 year old women that can barely walk? It is in St. Catharines.
Great hospital if you ever want to get sick for an exam as you will contract some blood born disease. I was seated in a chair for blood work and the seat had blood stains on it already. Nurse was upset when doing my blood work and was giving attitude, which I don't blame as they look over exhausted. Don't even bother reaching out to their patient outreach team as they will do nothing about it. Board of directors really need to re-evaluate how this hospital is runned and taking care of their employee's because those employee's are the ones who take care of us. MOHLTC needs to investigate this as well.
Long waiting time, but the staff does they're best. Maybe hire more staff so things go faster :D
Staff reused to allow out-of-town visitors in CCU during rounds to a patient who had the potential to not survive surgery. Is patient privacy something that wasn't considered prior to the hospital being built? The sliding glass doors seem to work, they can't just close them? Also, NOBODY has ANY kind of information about when the surgery will take place. Days and times keep changing, but no ones knows when it will actually happen. Poor communication and complete disregard for visiting families. There was one nurse there who was exceptional, some were ok, and others were completely insensitive.
Two words: compassion fatigue. Considering this is a new hospital I'm shocked at how many of the nurses and doctors suffer from compassion fatigue. Please, do something about this. Lives are on the line and there are workshops that can help minimize the effect of CF on your medical staff.
NHS has built a beautiful property but they don't maintain it very well. Elevators are filthy and they always seem to be running with a skeleton crew of nurses/doctors.
Fairly new in the area so didn't know anything about the Niagara area hospitals. I had an emergency and went to Welland for the shorter wait times and was appalled. Discharged myself from there and came here instead. SO impressed - unlike Welland it was clean, the triage nurse was amazing, they had a comfy waiting area, somewhere to get some food, and I was treated very well and never made to wait too long during treatment without being told what was going on (they had everything and everyone on-site for my diagnosis, unlike Welland). If I have another emergency in the future I will always come here, regardless of wait times!
We come in at midnight. No one in the waiting room. 13 hours later still waiting on a doctor... This is aweful service. No one coming to check in... As this hospital is supposed to be better????
Worst service iv ever had at a hospital, Wait times inaccurate, understaffed and awful service, better off driving the extra couple Minuites to st.catherines general since you'll be in the waiting room at this hospital a minimum 5 hours
Staff is good but expect to wait 3 hours plus to see a doctor. Why isn't there more funding for emergency doctor? It's crazy to keep a infant child up waiting for 3 hours in the middle of the night. One doctor on after 2. We got here at midnight. Why do we pay the highest taxes in the country again? Lets put money where it belongs. Instead of cutting Schools and medical care. Sad state
Absolutely APPALLED at the lack of professionalism and care at this hospital! Never, in all my years working in Health Care have I ever witnessed such absolute disregard for the well being of a patient!!!! What an absolute disgrace to be so poorly represented as 'Health Care Professionals' in Niagara.
Girlfriend had to come in at 3:30am to have a check done on her digestion. She wasn’t well and was vomiting a lot. For 3 hours they did nothing but bloodwork and apparently gave her 1 anti-naseua pill and told her to “rest” it’s 6am and we both have work so there’s no time left for her to rest. Apparently this “Doctor” is a Resident and clearly cant take good care of his still sick patients. Unbelievable. No wonder this hospital is one of the worst reviewed ones in the Niagara region. Don’t come here if you value your health and time!
My experience if getting my MRI done was fine. But ive waited over a month for my results. I just called my doctor they have not recieved them. Called the records lady. She was so unbelievably unhelpful. Like i had a MRI i need my results... send them to my doctor. Whats the issue... dont make me do all the calling around. Urgg. So annoyed.
A large modern hospital, recently built and opened in 2014. Everything is brand new, unfortunately like every other hospital there is no free parking, and it is $6 for a short visit, no grace period.
Quite a new and clean facility. The worst hospital in the entire Ontario. Do not go there. My high school friend is a RN at the hospital. My dad and sister are medical doctors and my mom is a nurse practitioner. The doctors are afraid of the nurses there. The nurses don't follow the doctors' written instructions. The nurses in the ICU are the best at the hospital but even they have a lot of malpractice if you happen to be in the ICU for more than 2 weeks (my dad was there for 5 weeks). They love to sit around the nursing station and gossip instead of looking after patients. During the 5 weeks my dad was there, one patient died every day for 5 weeks! Lots of family members yelling at the nurses for the crappy job they do. And once you move out of ICU, the nurses (most not all) are even worse!
Absolutely terrible wait times & poor organization. Even worse then when they were at their old site. Literally would not suggest going here unless it's a life or death situation & even then would still would recommend going to another hospital!!
I broke my arm n went into the Emerg. The triage nurse was beyond ignorant n rude! Then I was brought into the actual ER part. There were no beds but a waiting room. But the best part was that I was looked at by a doctor! Amazing, not just any doctor but a snot nosed child/man. High on getting to work at the hospital this kid was God! What I did enjoy was talking to the back of his head as he wizzed by with a podium on wheels with the charts. I was given a pain injection by a wonderful nurse.. in front of all my new closest friends in the ER hallway. That was embarrassing as they pull your pants down on one side to give you said injection. What a moment I will forever cherish. Yes 37 acres of nothing. One million Sq ft of nothing. You want this review..I'm going to give it. I was sent forms n completed them. The administration never called me. Now how does one talk to an OHIP card anyway? The hospital is understaffed overwhelmed n deficient on all levels. We do not even have a Trauma unit. I believe Hamilton gets the funding. We sure as hell don't. They wanted a new hospital. They received an over budget delayed piece of work. It's time the administrators hear what the hell is going on there. They dont care why would they? When they are sick they go private care. Thinking of building a new hospital? Are you out of your minds? In the 90's they cleaned rooms efficiently n with care. The floors gleamed. Of course it cost but it didn't cost lives. The old hospital tho not as fancy but did the same job. It served the region. You have the new one. It serves the administration. While their pensions rise..the care n quality go down. . We are not thought of in our region. We are not HAMILTON. The hospital was built like the bridge over the 406. Over budget n not thought out. But look on the bright side...the piano plays itself. What fun!!????
Too many people and not enough doctors to help the patients, worst wait time I have ever seen in any hospital, just waiting and waiting for someone to see you and too many people bunched together, worst COVID health guideline following I have ever seen.
Very modern hospital. Very busy. Not a place you want to be if you fear catching Covid-19.
thanks God we have this hospital , 3 times last 2 years I was there , all is ok , normal service , good clean rooms , I guess we need to donate more money of we want to see better doctors and nurses , but Big thanks to all people working there and make support to all people that needs help.
Our heartfelt thanks to Nurses Stephanie, Andy, and others who treated our cousin Gerry in the oncology ward these past few weeks. They were compassionate and wonderful throughout the dying process. It takes special people to be nurses.
I never left the side of my elderly friend who fell and fractured a bone in his neck. He was in pod B and the nursing care he received there was exemplary. They are so overworked and they still found the time to see to all his needs and whenever we asked a question, they were MORE than happy to get the answer and to help. They deserve five gold stars. It's too bad though that people lost jobs over this new facility. I would rather have kept the old place and have seen people keep their jobs. Thank you, to all of you who work in this industry. You rock!
I was put through what seemed like torture. I had an examination of my bladder through an instrument which accessed my bladder via a catheter. Every movement of the instrument caused searing pain. I told the doctor who said "We're almost done." Another few minutes and I asked them to stop. Another "almost done." Another few minutes (hours?) and then they were actually done. Have some empathy and listen to the patient. The pain level is what they say it is. I was told that I had been given pain meds before the procedure. Sure didn't feel that way and I don't recall being given anything. I still get chills thinking about it. When doctors are held unaccountable they start to behave that way.
Of course been a few times first time was a false alarm for a very dangerous disease involving intestines, but the second time was a bit odd. I had sulfur burps. It is a real thing and the whole house smelt like rotten eggs. I went in about 5:00am from waking up in pain and the doctor knew nothing about it, nor did they give me any options for helping it. I was in screaming pain for about an hour straight WHILE in the hospital and had nothing done. Missed a day of school(day before exams) and hurt for about another week. Thanks.
The treatment that I received here was absolutely horrible. The paramedics laughed at me when I told them my symptoms and suggested that I just take a Tylenol despite that I was in excruciating pain. I waited in the waiting room for over an hour and finally when I was admittted to see a doctor he tried to give me penicillin which I specifically told him I was deathly allergic to. He persisted on trying to give me this medicine because he did not believe me when I told him I was allergic...that is absolutely ridiculous. Finally he gives me different medicine and I am released however the medicine never works and my pain worsens, after seeing another doctor I was informed that I was assigned pills for a bladder infection when in fact i had SEVERE tonsilitis. Horrible service, very rude staff, DO NOT reccomend to anyone.
had a nurse basically mock me for failing a suicide attempt, so that was really neat
Hands down the best prenatal nurses and doctors I have ever been around. Felt right at home, super friendly, they take the time to talk to you and explain everything along the way. Very clean and organized. Thank you to everyone that helped bring my beautiful daughter into the world!
If you are in the emergency room and require immediate medical care, CALL 911. DO NOT bother going to a walk-in clinic or your family doctor in hopes of being referred to the hospital and quickening the admittance process — the staff at this hospital will refuse any medical directions outside of their institution, irregardless of the urgency. IF YOU REQUIRE IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE, CALL 911. DO NOT TRUST EMERGENCY TRIAGE, especially if you are under 35 and/or you are a woman. Despite nearly dying from acute pneumonia, I was told I was “making a fuss,” and “just having a panic attack”.
Not sure how the reviews can be so low. Some of the furniture definitely needs refinishing/updating, but my wife recently gave birth there, and the doctors and nurses were over the top helpful and nice. Even the security at the front door grabbed a wheelchair and helped my wife get upstairs while I checked in. I truly can't even express how above and beyond all the staff were. Now just get them a hospital worthy of them!
We've never had a bad experience at this hospital. People are nice, it's very efficient, waiting times are generally short for pre-arranged tests, atmosphere is lovely with the sun streaming in in the morning. We are very fortunate to have such a facility !
My friend couldn't drive so when her son bumped his head on table , she was panic and called me, I drove them to the hospital , we waited for four hours to get the tiny surgery done, the kid ended up have had seven stitches. The accident itself not that scary, but mom always be mom, an OK experience with the hospital, the stuff was nice but not that impressive
Not bad friendly, helpful staff, extremely clean hospital only complaint is 90% of the taps are horrible and need repaired ASAP! ESPECIALLY IN TIMES LIKE THESE!
Garbage experience, just drove all the way there to be told they aren’t seeing anymore patients and turned me away. I’m in extreme pain and now have to wait 12 hours to see someone ???????? Girl doing screening was an absolutely rude.
Way too many bad experiences to count. For a state of the art hospital they sure know how to get nothing done fast. My mother had to have her leg amputated and was dieing due to the infection and it took them 2 weeks just to make the decision. They did the amputation and it was already to late. So they shipped her back to Welland hospital were she died 2 days later because the infection went to her brain. My last son way born breech because they failed to do an ultrasound before breaking my water at 33 weeks gestation. I could go on because I have many more of these close personal bad experiences with this hospital.
Every time I go to this hospital (which has been fairly often with 4 kids), I am always impressed with the staff there. I had to take my daughter there for stitches again yesterday, and they made the whole experience much more enjoyable. From triage, to registration, to the doctors and nurses who cared for her-we were so impressed with their kindness and professionalism! She said on the way home she just couldn't believe how nice everyone is at the hospital. Thank you so much!!
Wow...every single person is so friendly and nice. Amazing customer care offered here. I need to pick up a shoe from the orthodic centre on 1st floor. Amazing customer service there as well.????
Was at orthopaedic surgeon this morning (St. Catharines site). The 4th floor Reception was adamant that I didn’t have an appointment and was actually rude about it. After looking into it more she realized I did have an appointment and instead of apologizing she told me that’s it’s because I booked it incorrectly(I called 3784647 and was transferred to a lady that booked me the appointment). I am not happy about how I was treated and this could have been dealt with in a whole different manner.
The worst hospital I ever seen!! I should read those comment before I went there. Emergency is a JOKE in here. They let you wait there at the midnight for hours and hours and doing nothing! We waited for 5 hours with about 10 people in the waiting room. During the 5 hours, only 2 patients was actually called for treatment(god know how long they have already waited?) and most of them (just like us) are in pain and only left there DYING!!! No one cares patient there. Left there with full disappointed after 5 hours waste of time. We left there without any treatment but still need to pay parking fee. Why this hospital is still here????I guess they get paid by charging parking fee instead of treating patients.
Fast with exceptional care! Really bothers me when I here people complain about the hospital...the staff is amazing and caring! Made me feel very comfortable got me everything I needed and more. Great job everyone keep up the fantastic work!
For all of those who complain that the government needs to improve health care, and point out how lacking it is, especially considering the insane amount of tax revenue that’s extracted from us to pay for what we have... the government IS the problem. They can not fix it. They can not improve it. They can not make it more efficient. I was just in emergency here with my young daughter, and the people working at this hospital are very good, very well meaning, very professional people... they just work in a broken system. They will never get compensated or supported enough to feel balance, and patients will never get enough value from our hard earned tax dollars to feel balance. Socialized health care is an awful system, and always hurts and effects the less fortunate among us the most.
I came here last night around 8:30 pm and it took me more than a 6 hours to see a doctor. One of the receptionist at first was very rude to me when I asked her when I can see a doctor after 3 hours waiting in front of triage. Yes it took 3 hours to see one of triage. Yes I waited very long but I had my appendix surgery done today. Hospital is every clean and people are very helpful and polite. I wanna say thanks to everyone. ????
Months ago had surgery. I had to return after being discharged. The lack of help and empathy was disgusting! No one would push wheelchair as I could hardly move due to JUST HAVING SURGERY! The triage nurse would not help push wheelchair into room and she didn't even want to help when getting off examination seat/bed. Even though I told her from surgery that sitting up I needed help. I'm small too and her reply when I asked for assistance was "I might hurt myself". I was not asking for her to full lift me, I asked that she place her arm along shoulder blades to assist while I get up. Pathetic! I was there in ER 13hrs before being admitted again. Which I was then there 7 days because surgery complications. In ER the lack of help continued. No one helped to push wheel chair because again I could hardly move or walk. No help to go to examination room, no help/assistance to lay for xray, and no assistance for MRI. Then once admitted the staff was amazing on floor. I believe it was unit D, and yet there's always one. Out of 7 days of being admitted there was one nurse who was rude and neglectful. Her name was Rachael. I had her for 2 days which seemed like a long nightmare. She never emptied my catheter bag until her 12 hr shift, she never changed or washed me, she didn't want to come in my room to do medication, she continuously closed my door and never did checks on me. Seriously the absolute worse nurse Ive ever come in contact with my entire life. Thank God the rest of the staff on that unit were absolutely amazing!
When I lost my baby, I was treated like trash by the doctors. The nurse was my only saving grace; a caring, friendly gentleman with a heart. Thank God/Buddha/Allah for someone like you.
I am beyond impressed with the labour and delivery team here! I had my baby in January at 41 weeks and they were all amazing!!
Pretty great experience with my first time visiting the NEW hospital since moving back from Hamilton. May be biased, it was the for the birth of my daughter :) Staff was extremely friendly and made us feel comfortable. Clean environment. Great views that allowed us to watch the first snowfall from the large windows in my daughter's room.
We came here for a CT scan. We were processed quickly. Even though younger members of the nursing staff had difficulty finding a vein for the IV, the supervising nurse came in and was able to find a vein right away. From there, things were so easy. As we have experienced so many negative hospital experiences in the last two years, this visit at St. Catharines Hospital was easily the most positive. Thank you endlessly to the supervising nurse who helped us in medical imaging. That said, reading the other reviews, it is readily apparent that this experience may not be the norm at this hospital. Additionally, having visited other hospitals in the Niagara Health System, I am well aware of Niagara Health System's low standards of care.
My mother was palliative and her care was inattentive at best most of the time. One good shift and one good set of nurses does not make up for the dismissive, arrogant and condescending attitudes of some of the others. Not everyone has been through a dying loved one and they are going to have questions, concerns, requests and yes panic. A tiny bit of compassion goes a long way...yes everyone has a bad day but your job is to suck it up and provide professional compassionate care. A family of a dying member should not have to go hours and hours without seeing a nurse nor continually have hunt one down. You're busy I get it but just stopping by the room and asking if everything is okay as the one shift was able to do is not asking too much. Overall, nice new hospital but a new attitude did not come with the upgrade. If you can take your loved one home or a hospice for their last few days this not a place to spend your time of dying. Truly unimpressed.
Takes way to long for doctors to read you bloody results! I mean four hours for a 10 minute sit down to read something they could of called you with. I am appalled at the way the health care system is turning out to be. The goverment needs more doctors and nurses.
So, I get referred for psychological assistance. Have been having a rough time due to sickness (IBS, migraines and tinnitus), feel down a lot, many around believe I may be PTSD During apt with with Dr. U (not sure how to spell) I am coping with severe lack of sleep, back/abdominal cramps and a 8/10 headache, told him as such at start of the apt. He runs me through the Q&A, gives a lot of flack over my cannabis script, but seems to ignore the issues I've had at work, home, medically, sadness and a plethora of other factors I am NOT placing in a review. Doc wants me to go for anger management (there was very little anger issues addressed during the interview) and my wife to a battered woman's shelter, then reports me for aggressive behaviour and reports house to Childrens Aid Society CAS, for the record, found no reason to even come to the home. I have an impeccable history, no criminal element at all and have been with/around kids for 23 years (I have 3 kids, and wife ran a daycare in my home) with no issues, ever Well Doc, that was last year... I am now catching up with the damage you did and I am not impressed!
A while ago I was in for a possible busted appendix, and they have me in the waiting room for 5 hours after I told them I threw up on my way in. After that 5 hours I was moved to a lazy boy chair in the back (a mock room) and was there for another 3 before a doctor came in. I was being sent for ex rays and I had to wait another 1.5 hours before someone even came back to tell me where to go for them, after the doctor rudely just walked away. All in all I had spent nearly 12 hours in there for basically no results. At that point I told the nurses how long I was here and that I now have to go to work and just left. 12 hours for one Xray that didn't show anything. No doctors willing to actually do anything.
Its a filthy hospital but the nursing staff are very helpful and friendly but i wouldn't recommend this hospital to go to if you have to go to a hospital go to grimsby or Hamilton general hospital
7.5 hours for an x ray and blood test.. and the waiting room was basically empty. Prepare for a long ride.
Took my 7yr old to hospital emergency last night around 8pm due to his continous vomiting. They took 2 hrs for initial screening and told it will take another waiting time to register child. After registration they told me waiting hours is 4 hours to meet a doctor. I told its emergency rt and it's child. They treat adult and children same , no priorities. Already it past 10 and my son was so tired and down. I took to home as waiting in the hall for hours during the pandemic is not safe too. Morning I have to take to a walkin clinic
Care is negligent at best and communications between Hospital Staff and Patient/Family Members is non existent over a 5 week span...not to mention Dr.'s orders not being followed...do not leave your loved ones at this Hospital, period...I can't imagine any Hospital being worse than this one...we, as Ontarians need to stand up and fight for decent Health Care; it's that simple!!!
Zero privacy, zero professionalism, longest wait times ever. Update: this hospital is good for 2 things, giving birth and dying.
Unfortunately the system is over burdened because people do not see their family doctor/urgent care center and believe their small medical problems are the most serious. The staff is extremely friendly and do their best given the circumstances they are dealt with. 5 stars because the staff is so amazing.
I had hip surgery and was discharged from the Hospital September 4th. I can say only good words about all staff. Special thank you to Dr McCloy for taking good care of me.He is efficient and caring with the smile.Thank You
Mother in law thought she was having a stroke. Arrived via ambulance. Sat in ER waiting room 3 hours before seeing doctor. No tests done to the doctors surprise. CT Scan and other tests then performed & sent home 3 more hours later with appointment at stroke clinic. Next morning she collapses in shower and is taken by ambulance to ER. Wait 3 hours for same tests to be performed and another appointment at stroke clinic. She was recorded as being walk in according to nurse, no idea about previous results. They also had the wrong charts. If you're having a stroke do NOT go to this hospital.
I went here on Saturday morning with severe abdominal pain. I expected to wait the whole day, at the very least. There were 5 other patients in the waiting area, with 32 being treated (they have a live update of patient numbers on the screen) but they took my vitals and drew blood within a matter of minutes. I saw the doctor in about 30-45 minutes, then got my blood taken again, gave a urine sample, and got an ultrasound done on my whole abdominal. All of this, including the results, in about 3.5 hours. The staff was professional, friendly, and efficient, can't thank them enough.
Got my throat fishbone removed here by Dr. Tang. It was from a perch and only 7 mm long. I was sent here after the Greater Niagara General Hospital told me they could not find the tiny bone with an x-ray and did not use the mini snake camera. Factoring in the first trip to Niagara at 3pm, the second trip to St Catharines, and finally back home at 11pm , it took 8 hours to remove the fish bone. I got to keep the bone and I look at it as a reminder to find all fin bones (the left and right arms/fins of a fish) hidden in the fillet. Everything worked out. When you eat fish, watch yourself! And when going to take a shower after being injected with ketamine, you can't wash yourself. Shake yo ***.
my wife came on the ambulance, in 5 hours no one asked her a question nobody gave her any medication or fluides they were sitting and telling jokes to each other... when i tried to ask for help the answer was very short and rude. disgusting After 5 hours the doctor who just came to work apologized and told us that we need to go to another doctor!!!! it wasn't busy at all that night.
About two weeks ago I brought my son who is six years old in to your hospital he was having a severe asthma attack which from coughing so much his eyes are actually bloodshot his lips but his lips was not blue enough for you guys for you to give him anything ( actually quoting a nurse there ) you guys made me just use his original puffers that I’ve been giving him the whole day . And you guys gave him an x-ray and show that his lungs were absolutely cloudy and you still refuse to help him . I cannot believe the neglect you have Gayven my six-year-old and comments that you made to me and my son at that time stating his lips were blue enough , for that reason you did not give him any oxygen ! I have been with him to many hospitals for his severe asthma attacks that are usually we have stayed overnight because they are so bad which to be honest this was one of the bad ones and The doctor sent me home after you give him my puffer are you even wait to see if it worked . I am happy that the next day early in the morning I walk in clinic was open and at least somebody gave me a liquid version of a steroid to help him breathe again because they asked me why the hospital even let him leave . And I said good question I have no clue.... so if I could give you zero stars I definitely would !!!!
Even though it's a new build and one of the better hospitals in the Niagara region, they still don't have enough resources or empathy to help most of the people who visit the ER. Just visit any day of the week and see for yourself. I don't get it. We just want help. What's wrong with you.
This has to be the worst hospital in Ontario . As I was waiting for my mother. I watched two hospital employees watch a man struggling to open a door to leave the hospital. As at 8pm the automatic doors are turned off. So I got out of my car and held the door open for him . And yes he was in a wheelchair . I have no idea who is running this place. But they should be let go.
To the nursing professionals in Emergency Pod B, RNs Camilla and Lexie, in particular: thank you for the commitment you are showing to your profession by offering people-centred and compassionate care. Your B-unit offers A+ care with exemplary customer and patient service with frequent check-ins, professionalism and communication. I appreciate your sincere interest in caring for a close family member.
Every time iv come here has always been amazing my all time best was back in 2017 for birth I will.always remember the nurse that really helped me and went above and beyond for me best hospital ever
This hospital wait times are incredibly long, urgent care is understaffed (one doctor on duty), and they seem to over react (IV hooked up for cold symptoms) or dismiss patients who really need care. Been there 3 times and truthfully, would drive to Hamilton before going to this hospital in an emergency.
Very good experience here, our first time using the ER at the new St. Catharines General. The wait was acceptable the staff polite and knowledgeable. Treated and on the way home in 3 hrs. Very impressed!
For a brand new hospital, this place is onr of the worst Ive ever been to. The staff is so rude, with a few exceptions, and the doctors are extremely discourteous and unprofessional bordering on just being plain terrible at their jobs and needing to be fired. While there I had to correct two doctors on details pertaining to my medical condition- as though they couldnt be bothered to take out a phone and do a basic google search. Then I was told I was wrong, which is funny because Ive been suffering from my condition for more than 25yrs and am constantly reading up on the new research, and what they told me I was wrong about was information given to me by my neurosurgeon in Toronto, who is the head of the department there. In the future I will save myself the entire DAY I spent there waiting (yes, almost 26hrs before I was able to leave, and without any answers whatsoever) and drive to a hospital where the doctor are actually informed, and care about their patients. Absolutely disgusting, what a waste of millions in tax dollars building this new deathtrap...
I went to the Niagara Health System on 4th Avenue emergency which as it turns out congestive heart failure they were extremely polite and diagnose the problem in a very quick order.... I cannot stand up about the Professional Standards and the quality of the people did I have dealt with
I really like the new hospital. The layout and design is well thought out. Parking fees are steep so be prepared. The nurses are great and the wait times are bad except for emergency. It took 4 hours for me to be given meds for a allergic reaction where I had terrible hives on my faces, nasal and throat. Had a hard time breathing but wasn't suffocating. It took way to long. I felt abandoned and had no one check up on me for hours after I was let into the rooms. But cancer Centre is fantastic where my wife just went through the whole process. The nurses and doctors there are great
We took our friend there with a severe allergic reaction and it took them 20 minutes to triage and 1 hour to give the first medication! They had no sense of what anaphylactic shock and real emergency mean!
The 2.8 rating is 100% accurate! This is a horrible hospital! I'm the POA for my aunt who was hospitalized there & 90% of the nurses & dr. provided low quality health care, were dismissive to my queries & slow to act in finding what her medical condition was to help to prolong her life! From my first visit in the ER with my aunt back in November I knew this hospital wasn't any good! But, being new to the St. Catharine's area I felt like this was my only option. I pray that I NEVER get sick or another one of my loved ones DON'T get sick where they need to be hospitalized BECAUSE I WILL DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO UNIVERSITY ST. in Toronto before I seek treatment from here! DISGUSTINGLY SAD!!!
Complete failure of a hospital. Send people away who are in need, leave people waiting longer than necessary, and dont get me started on my stay in the ICU.
I can’t say any word out of work “wait” and “wait”... I think government need to improve the Niagara health system. I really scared when I sick. Because I don’t want to wait in the hospital for 3 or more than 4 hours for nothing. I wonder how many doctors are working there? And the tax we paid for medical care still not enough to get a good service for the patient? Nobody want to sick and nobody want go to the hospital if they are healthy. But when we sick. We received only one thing from the hospital wait.... and wait... That is the best health system??? Hopefully in the new year 2019 government can consider and change a bit about healthy system that would be more beautiful than allow for legally using marijuana.
Won't let us leave....refusing to help son too worried about ordering their pizza and wings....I would avoid this hospital at all costs...Been here 3 days and have been checked on twice...
Got poked by a needle at work, went here, 6 hours later still at the hospital, oh ya great service.
Received quimotherapy treatment for the first time at walker institute. The two nurses who treated me were so professional and they made me feel calm. Excellent service from Arianna and sheila from pod e. Want to thank them for all there for their support. Thank you so much.
I would like to thank st.Catherine's hospital for taking such good care of me last night and this morning special shoutout to Dr. Ward who made my stay more comfortable while I underwent a series of tests, thanks to the nurses who took care of me and explained what tests I was getting done
Last Sunday my mother had a fall at her residence. 911 was called and we spent several hours in the hospital. The EMS attendants, the emergency room nurses and the Doctor(Dr.Ward) were amazing in their treatment of my mother. Although several significant emergencies were going on around us, the care we received from everyone was exceptional!
Jiddu Krishnamurti. There is a doctor here who could be his twin, if not him in the flesh. I was so grateful for the care he provided my son. I wish I knew his name. Such a kind, patient, compassionate and knowledgeable doctor. The world would be a better place if more doctors were as thorough, and considerate. He seemed to genuinely care and actually provided solutions, instead of immediately prescribing drugs. I hope he is doing well and wish him the best. The Niagara Health System is lucky to have someone like him on their team. Otherwise, the st cathatines site isn't so bad. Of course there could be improvements but, that comes with better funding. Some people shouldn't be allowed to work here, but I suppose you get a few bad eggs in every industry
Nurses in critical care are rude beyond belief! It's almost like you're interrupting their social time when you want to see your loved one! None of them know anything- did they really graduate nursing school? I'm so happy their jobs are getting overtaken by RPN's as they work much harder and are much nicer!
Waiting 9 hours to finally see a Dr. Crying in excruciating pain and he denies me help, says he couldn't do anything for me. No tests, no medication, just made me leave while I was crying in pain. Been in bed for the last 6 hours crying because I'm in so much pain because they wouldn't help me. It is 3am and I was discharged at 9pm. Call the hospital and ask what I should do and they tell me to go to my doctor on Monday, like whatttttt. Never go here
Fire this hospital director. 1 doctor working emergency from 11pm to 8am and only 1 on before that. This is third world health care at best. How many people check themselves out because they're too ill to wait in a chair for 6+ hours? That's the Raz.
Had my baby here. What a mess. Different answers from different people. They do what's best and easy for them and not what's best for the baby and mom. Next one will be in hamilton for sure. Not here.
Rude staff, crazy wait times and incompetent doctors. Hospitals in ontario .. what else is new...
Extremely slow. Unless you are dying, don't bother. The girls too busy being social
Went in for x-rays yesterday expecting to have a terrible experience. Wow! I was wrong. In and out in 30 minutes including screening for COVID. Girls in x-ray department were so nice also. Nothing beats a pleasant person when doing things you really have no time for. Well done!
Worst experience EVER. I would never want my family to have to suffer such rude and inconsiderate treatment. The doctor (who was polite and kind to us on the phone) providing palliative care to my dying grandfather told us to take our time in getting to the hospital, that there was no hurry. About an hour and a half later, as we were almost to Church St (on our way to 142 Queenston St which is the address in the 2016 Port Colborne phone book for the St. Catharine's General Hospital), we received a call on my Dad's cell phone -- it was an incredibly rude nurse from the hospital, demanding to know why we weren't at the hospital already and claiming that they had been trying to reach us for 2 hours! When I explained to her we were on the way, it takes 40 minutes to get there from Port Colborne and told her where we were, she then berated me and was very condescending about the fact that we were going to the wrong address for the hospital. I told her that's what was in the phone book, she outright said I was lying and that -everywhere- had been updated for the new address because the new location had been open for almost 4 years. Because of her attitude, I didn't even mention that the house phone hadn't rung with a call from the hospital prior to us leaving the house so her claim of how long they were trying to reach us was utterly false. By the time we reached the hospital, my grandfather had passed away. My Dad and I were directed to one of the nurses to provide information to in regards to arrangements for the body. We gave the male nurse a laminated card for Niagara Funeral Alternatives (which had all of their contact information on it), as that's where my grandfather's arrangements were with. He told us not to worry, he'd send the card with the body to the morgue and that the morgue would take care of calling them to have the body picked up. Two weeks later, my Dad received a call -- from the hospital. Another rude person, this time demanding to know why arrangements hadn't been made for my grandfather's body, and why the body was still taking up space in their morgue! We couldn't believe it! And not only that, the person said they'd been trying to get a hold of him for 10 days! My Dad never received a call to either the home phone or his cell phone from the hospital in that time period at all! Rather than trust the hospital to follow through (as they failed so spectacularly the first time), my Dad had to call Niagara Funeral Alternatives himself to make the arrangements for the body to be picked up.
Had to deal with a racist and sexist doctor. She yelled at me the entire time a kept asking if I was on drugs. No results - terrible place.
They worked hard to help me. The head nurse got me some yogurt and jello to eat as I was waiting for surgery. Did it at 9:30 at night when they could of went home.
It is beyond ridiculous how rude the nurses have been in the Emergency ward. Perhaps they all need to go back to school to learn all about empathy towards family members when a loved one is critically ill and our anxiety level is off the charts. Very disappointing when all we’re looking for is direction. I hope that my Mother is fortunate enough never having to return.
All the expectant mothers out there, you are in the best hands possible at the Niagara Health - St. Catharines Hospital. I'm super impressed with the staff at the Mom and Baby department. To the nurses Niki Ferko and Meghan. B in particular: thank you for the commitment and your compassionate care when I was admitted in the hospital on November 18th, 2021. Niki and Meghan, your dedication and expertise is incredible, you two were my angels in disguise. Right after my operation, I had dedicated nurses for the next 24 hours to monitor progress. I had a Senior RN, Joanne, another Meghan and 3 other nurses but I don't remember their names (my bad). All the nurses were alert, caring, patient and checked on me every 30 minutes. Thanks to Dr. Denise Campeau who was the bearer of the bad news :( who decided my emergency-c who played it safe, which ultimately saved my baby when the fetal heart rate was decelerating. Thanks to Dr. Uthra Mohan for performing the cesarean, within 5 minutes my baby was out and safe. I came to know that the doctors work a 12 hours shift and I really thank you for taking care of us during this pandemic. A sincere thanks to all the nurses and doctors from triage to registration, to my Cesarean, to discharge who cared for me and my baby!
Avoid this hospital at all cost untrained and disrespectful staff no sense of compassion or care absolutely no concern for time management. 7/10 % you will leave sicker and in a worse condition then you left Make sure you at least carry 20 dollars with you for parking If you show up with major injuries you can expect to be seated next to everyone who's there for a sore thumb for 2h before getting seen
There a was a bit of a delay in the emergency waiting room.
Took my mother to the ER yesterday and had the most horrible experience ever. It was emergency pod A.The bed given to her had lots of hair on the bedsheets, the gown smelled terrible and when asked to replace it looked like they gave the same one as it smelled the same. A trainee nurse was sent to draw the IV line which she failed in and could not get the vein. It caused immense pain and discomfort which was never apologized for. This led to a huge flare up of the hives attack on her right arm today. Her reports showed low haemoglobin and still they kept drawing blood for extra tests which could have waited as they weren't necessary for immediate care. It was for an appointment at a clinic which she had to go after a few days. This was wrong decision made by the doctor there. The excess drawing of blood has caused her blood pressure to drop( 90/56) causing her dizziness and weakness. Now who is responsible for her worsened state of health after visiting the ER? Very disappointed and upset. My advice is to never visit this hospital again. Please look for a better option for your loved ones.
I had good service and the personnel was excellent except for one nurse who was on duty for the night shift. She did not answer when I buzzed and two hours later I had to get up and find someone in the next department to answer my concern of a machine making noise in my room.
Horrible experience with calling. Called to try and send someone a gift, the initial person who answered the phone was kind, provided me more info and forwarded me. The second woman who answered the phone completely dehumanized me in the conversation we had, she cited Covid as a constant excuse for her rude behaviour, she was derogatory in her tone towards me, and she is a stain on the hospital. Don't even bother trying to call and get information, its not worth having someone express a hateful attitude to you and it's remarkable how people like her work in a system that supposedly has your best care at heart. Let me tell you something, if you are rude, hateful, and resistant to help with the simple tasks, you most likely do not deserve your job. Absolutely disgusting.
I have nothing but good things to say about this hospital. The nurses were so kind and friendly. Very attentive. My doctors were also kind and friendly. I felt very taken care of. Thank you so much!!
I was at the hospital from about 6 pm till 2:00 am. A long wait that was necessary to repeat the various tests. The staff, at each station, were very professional and helpful. I noticed them being very enthusiastic and kind to the several very young sick children. Special recognition to the doctor who saw me. He was very thorough and conscientious. I left the hospital confident that that I had been careful diagnosed. He definitely cared! Thank you to everyone working last night.
Very long wait times, this much is true. But a caring and dedicated staff who went above and beyond for my family, a big thank you to those who cared for my wife and our son. I am grateful for everything.
I've been to many hospitals but this is one of a kind... Why don't you utilize this place for something else? Calling it a hospital is a big Joke...
In The Niagara area this is the closest hospital with a Pediatrician so anyone needing emergent care for their child must go to this hospital. I’m sure the staff knows this, do they just choose not to recognize it? I cannot believe the horrible service received for children here. It starts in the emergency room, where people are EVERYWHERE trying to sell drugs, asking for money, making a scene inside the hospital.. seriously? Then once admitted, nurses are rang and don’t show up. And when they do say things like “I have to go deal with an actual sick baby” .... oh, so we are here for no reason? Something needs to be done about this hospital. I from now on will be driving to Hamilton to get my children seen. Disgusting.
The staff that I have met over the weekend have great morale. They have taken great care of me through my ordeal.we have joked about things to past time just to make sure we all are in good spirits.. Thanks again to all the nurses, doctors, caretakers, the kitchen staff that makes great food and to any other staff that I might have forgotten thank-you for your skills and your team. Remember this if you are reading this it's not 1person taking care of you,it's a team after team that put everything into there duties. Take the time and thank them, show them the respect they deserve
The staff are absolutely rude….. now please don’t get me wrong I’m not referring to all staff but a couple in particular. The actually attitude I just recieved from whoever answered the emerg phone was not helpful whatsoever Extremely rude and super sarcastic….. I understand your a nurse and your under a lot of pressure at times but that does NOT give you a free pass to speak or I should say snap at me like that This is what the health system has come too….. it’s a pay check to most they don’t care about the client or their families HAVE SOME EMPATHY for goodness sake you work in a hospital
My mother was admitted to the hospital on March 28, 2019 with difficulty breathing. I arrived on the 29 th from out of town. I stayed with her every day for 10 to 13 hours till she died on April 24. Many of the nurses didn’t care after her at all. The one star is for 2 nurses out of many that performed their duties with empathy. From the start no nurse came when mom pressed the button to go to the bathroom. I learned how to help her with that and cleaning her afterwards. When her food was brought she needed to be helped into a comfortable position to eat. Only 4 times did a nurse do that. I learned how to do just about everything for her myself, even though they told me that they needed 2 nurses to do what I did by myself. At first a nurse was supposed to check on her every 2 hours. Many times a whole day would pass and they looked in on her once or twice a the most. From the beginning I requested to speak to her doctor. That didn’t happen till 2 weeks later. Then the doctor finally informed me that she had had a heart attack resulting in fluid in the lungs. It gets worse. One time I came to the hospital late to find that my mother was left in the bathroom by herself for half an hour without being checked on ( a fellow patient informed me ) she was last there with her walker unlocked. She was trying with difficulty to clean herself leaning on the walker. She could have fallen. A nurse finally came and left her to walk back to her bed unaided. At that time mom had not walked by herself with her walker for at least 4 days, she was weak and unsteady. Mom was 93 years old and a dialysis patient. Her body wasn’t responding to the fluid removal very well anymore. She almost died once at least while being dialyzed. We stopped the dialysis treatments then and she was given a private room to receive palliative care till she passed away. At that time a nurse was supposed to check her every half hour. That never happened. Again I took care of her by myself. One night 3 days prior to her passing at 10 pm i just felt that i had to check on mom again so i drove to the hospital in my pajamas and arrived to find her bed and gown wet. She had knocked her water over trying to get a drink because she couldn’t coordinate her hands. She could not talk because her tongue was swollen with thirst. Where was the nurse that was supposed to check on her every half hour????? There is more, to much to mention. The nightmare that I lived through that month still affects me. I have trouble sleeping and when I do the nightmare continues. A word of advice, never leave a loved one alone at the mercy of the staff of this hospital. Research the hospital. I am from out of town so I didn’t know how bad this hospital is. There is one special person employed there that truly tried to help us, but she couldn’t watch over the negligent nurses 24 hours a day.
Hospital is severely understaffed which causes both the patients and staff to suffer.
This hospital should be shut down they are racist! The staff has no empathy! Why are we paying our tax dollars to fund this horrible place. I have taken pictures and videos of the mistreatment that I have witnessed and I will bring media attention to the abuse and neglect. If you have family or friends please do not go to this hell whole of a place. I warn you DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL you may not make it out alive. I will contact all the media platforms to bring light to what is going on.
Disgusting service - Absolute waste of taxpayers money - Doctors, nurses and Psychiatrists - did NOT do their job. Did not care about the people they are working with - 'working' is not really the word I should use seeing as I did not see any 'work' being done within this hospital. EMT did their jobs, and were the only positive part of the experience had with this hospital filled with ignorant quacks. Getting paid to stand around - moving people from wait room to wait room - to release them without having helped at all- complete waste of time - Released a dangerously unstable male back home where hes been brought to the hospital multiple times for Skitsofrenia. Rather than DOING WHAT YOUR PAID TO DO - YOUR JOB. Sincerely, concerned citizen disgusted with this hospital,
Typically long emerge wait times. Building is very nice, service is hit or miss (I met some of the best and worst doctors/nurses I've ever met while there). Managed to contract two infectious diseases from IVs and lack of attention to detail in the span of 3 weeks as an in-patient in their care.
AVOID THE EMERGENCY ROOM IF WORRIED ABOUT COVID! I spent many hours in the emergency room at the St. Catharines hospital over the past few days. The ER staff does not take the threat of patients' exposure to COVID seriously. Many patients in the waiting room had their masks pulled under their chins, including one woman who coughed furiously for hours while I was in the ER. When I pointed out the problem of the coughing unmasked woman to an ER triage nurse, she said there was nothing she or any medical staff could do about this woman or about people in the ER not wearing masks. (The triage nurse was safe behind her plexiglass barrier.) A security guard also turned a deaf ear to my concern. IF YOU'RE A HIGH-RISK PATIENT REGARDING COVID, DON'T GO TO THIS ER IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS.
Excellent experience in the day surgery/OR dept. Very efficient, organized. Kind caring staff from volunteers to doctors. Sept. 3/20- Just had my second experience at this hospital, had an MRI done. Excellent experience again. Staff are always so kind and helpful.
My friend waited a long time with no blanket to hear that she had to go see another doctor. No snacks were provided. Entertainment was lackluster at best. Will not visit agiain.
I had an amazing nurse last night helping me through a CT scan. I was very nervous about it but she talked me through everything and I was in and out within 30 minutes. Thank you to your Registration staff as well, I don't know how you all stay so pleasant late into the night.
Brought my husband to emerge because he had an accident with cooking oil. He had a second degree burn on his whole arm, side of his neck and face. They did not even clean the burn before putting a really horribly done dressing on. All they did was put ointment on a dirty burn and dress it. He wasn't given any antibiotics or pain meds while he was there. He now has an infection because the burn wasn't cleaned properly before the initial assessment. Never again am I taking any of my family members here ....disgusting
Totally disgusted by the ER. My father was called by his doctor in Hamilton following an MRI. They told him to go the ER right away as he had a blood clot near his heart. He was made to wait 7 hrs before seeing a doctor. This kind of service is deadly and not right. Something needs to be done. #poorhealthcareniagarahealthsystem
There's a sign in the ER waiting room that states " If condition worsens please inform the triage nurse"....we informed her that my husband was slumped over in unbearable abdominal pain...she told us there's nothing she could do!?! Then why do you need to be informed!?! What a joke of a hospital! We are new in town....and everyone we spoke to said pray you never need the ER services in Niagara...now we know why! Disgusting services!
I disagree with the negative comments. My father in law has received amazing care. Where other facilities treat the elderly like they have one foot in the grave they have gone above and beyond to provide amazing care to save his life.
Was friendly and gear to help. The care that I saw was way above the ordinary. Quick response for the patient and very kind and patient.
Although seemingly new, shiny and bright, this has to be the WORST hospital I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Doctors and nurses don't return calls from immediate family members, and seem to purposely leave everyone - including other staff members - in the dark. No one can actually read a patients records. Serious diagnosis' are made without actual testing. If you have another hospital option TAKE IT because everyone I've dealt with in this establishment is completely incompetent.
Awful hospital staffed by the worst kind of sociopaths you could imagine. In March my wife was told her chemotherapy had stopped working on her own, after I wasn't allowed with her to see her oncologist (this despite the fact an additional person could be present under the hospital's own Covid protocols). Anyway, she died in June which i'm absolutely sure the hospital staff were pleased about. Awful place; supposed to be a caring profession? Don't believe it.
Good doctors but way too long of a wait. 5 hrs then had to go bacfor ultrasound in the morning and wait 5 hrs again for everyone in emergency to finally get my results.
I have a loved one whom was brought into the facility on a form 2 twice by the police on two different occasions. He was made to sit in emergency for nearly 48 hours without a proper assessment or treatment. When I arrived with another concerned family member to get some insight and be of some help we were told it isn’t necessary and he doesn’t want to see me. Obviously he doesn’t want to see the people who want him to live and get help, he’s a drug addict with severe mental health concerns, which is why the form 2 has been approved. He was pushed out at the 72 hour mark to the second. No call to police despite the fact he has a violent and aggressive record. Also no contact to family contacts that were included with the form 2. One of the nurses by the name of Elizabeth on the psych unit told us that we need to let our loved one make his own decisions and he can get help if he wants it. Well Elizabeth my loved one has been roaming the streets talking to imaginary people, body deluted with heroin and meth. And now when I seen him 7 months after that conversation, sleeping in the entrance of the bank cold and not making sense or found him sleeping under the bridge as I’m trying to explain it’s getting very cold out all’s I hear is your disgusting voice telling me he can get help if he wants it. Shame on this facility and shame on anyone who speaks like this and walks around with the title “nurse” or “caregiver”.
Went in last Thursday for an ACL and meniscus surgery. Went in for 6am and every nurse I spoke to was extremely friendly and tried to help anyway they could. After the surgery went into the recovery unit, once again the nurses knew my name and did everything they could to make the process as quick and painless as possible. Overall a great experience with wonderful people!
Disgusting to say the least. Terrible wait times and patient care. Better off driving out of town. Toronto hospitals were right to say take the drive and get proper prompt treatments.
Over 12 hours of waiting. Just disappointed in the lack of doctors. Turns out all the hospitals in this area have the same problem. Feel bad for the locals in this area
This review pertains specifically to the day surgery department and staff, I could not have asked for a better experience, the nurses were so amazing, making me laugh and keeping me calm before surgery then taking such great care post surgery. Thanks!
Horrible, like alwase i come here just to be reminded to never come here agen, Hamilton or Oakville much cleaner better FRENDLYer, this hospital is an embarrassment, the staff are the absolute worst, aside from security, thay good, but ill never come here agen. Just grose and the people who work here shoud not.
i have been in hospital for a weeks now, and the service was inconsistent, only two nurses have treated me like a human being, my doctor (dr Plazza) denied me meds that i need even though two specialists said i needed it, most other nurses ignored me most time. I was not happy with this visit!
The staff were excellent and did the best they could with the resources they had Unfortunately our hospitals don’t receive the funding they should. Thanks for the great care :)
What a major screw up its so depressing to go there I'm on daily sis so I'm there 3 times a week NO bonus card no server it's a real discussing place to go the staff is not Tim Horton staff the staff that there would be all fired why you ard there is a major suspense to me I get 1 med coffee on Thurs if I'm on my way if it's busy I just go up for my treatment I don't know how u got there but this 1 giant step backwards the staff is not friendly at all I'm a guard I go to treamont Dr. 140/3 highway and montrose I wouldn't trade them for any where I also feel so so so sorry for the staff who are a time limit and it takes a long time I know you tried to get in there but how they did I'd is a real shame what a joke
My 91 yr old father was brought in by ambulance at 12pm. It is now 8pm and has not been seen yet. This an unbelievable experience ! I have to update this post. After our 9hr wait in emergency, my father was admitted. My opinion of the hospital has changed after our initial experience. Their care and help for him rose dramatically. I will change my rating to an overall 3+
I went to emergency this morning (Sunday May 16th, 2021 at 7.00 am) and the emergency room manager was extremely rude. After I asked her for help, she was cold and walked away to complain about me to her co-workers and said bad things about immigrants like myself, like if that had anything to do with my health concerns. Secondly, the doctor happened to have very limited English knowledge and wasn’t able to articulate and communicate appropriately, which is important when explaining procedures and test results. In addition, the nurse who took blood samples did a sloppy job and I ended up with a painful swelled arm, when I asked the head nurse if she could treat it said "you should see how old people's arm get... You'll be fine!"
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I injured my knee during a basketball game. I went in to get it checked up and they said it was too swollen to examine so they told me to come back in a week. Which I did and they told me nothing was wrong, and kept telling me to put ice/heat on it and to stay on crutches until the pain goes away. I asked them for an MRI and they said no and I ask why and they said because I won't need surgery but how would they know I don't need surgery if they don't even know what happened to my knee. So I just got my doctor to refer me to an MRI instead and a few months later I found out that I tore my ACL. The doctors at the hospital are terrible, didn't take the time to actually show care towards my injury.
I had nothing but humiliation and bad treatment in the perc area ...I was having a mid life crisis and the ladies just stared at me and made fun of me behind the glass wouldn't give me a cup of water or let me use the bathroom I peed on the floor in my room they had me locked in ....they also injected me with 200 mg of ativan I could of over dose they say it was too sedate me this happened on June 30 I should sue these people for poor treatment in human too a person going threw mental health ......the female nurses are more focused on the Male nurses there they love to flirt and talk to eachother as well ....n that's all they do they dont help no one they care about dating not patients who need medical care and what they went to school for there whole lifes . Pathedtic
I had a surgical emergency and I went to the ER in St. Catharines hospital. The entire team was amazing - from the front desk staff, to the nurses, and especially Dr. Rafi Setrak. Dr. Setrak was full of energy and very knowledgeable. He explained everything very well to me and was very compassionate, reassuring and caring. If I need to visit the ER again, I will definitely ask for Dr. Setrak.
I could write a lengthy complaint about several negative matters that not only myself, but also other family members have had to endure at this hospital. Even death without proper explanation!! I also have adult children that at certain times in their lives should have gone to emergency but have refused due to seeing what their other family members have gone through. The place terrifies them. But what is the point in getting into all the detail of the unfortunate care going on!! Will it make a difference? Will it change? I really wish it would. But truthfully everyone that experiences all the negative results from this institution knows it won't. Be careful! Get 2nd opinions! Trust your instincts if you feel things aren't being done properly! Thankyou.????
Nurses are lazy and rude just sitting around gossiping and bringing in a good pay cheque while doing it, if I was in charge these people would all be FIRED and can find a job at the local grocery store instead if they want to gossip about college crushes they had. Hospital is severely understaffed aswell waiting times getting into hours upon hours, I guess they get paid by the hour from the government so who cares if you're in pain? Obviously the workers at this hospital I would rate 0 out of 5 if I could.
Amazing care and compassion by everyone from Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists even the cleaning and food staff.
We got our baby here The nurses Cody , ive,and Olivia and Dr Macmillan were pretty amazing They fun professional and very attentive to my wife needs Keep up the good sprit and amazing work
Wonderful nurses N doctors up on the 4th floor woman's and babies and postpartum area my experience i had when I was there 3 different times having my babies was the best thing ever. ❤????
If you're looking for accurate care that's delivered in a timely fashion from compassionate staff go elsewhere.
The nurses here have no clue of what they are doing. Came in to the hospital with abdominal and chest pains. Nurse said she needed to do bloodwork, tries to find a vein, then pokes me with the needle and finds nothing. She then proceeds to tell me that she doesn't have time for me and sends me back to the waiting room. The fact that i have chest pain and they takes me as a patient so lightly is an absolute disgrace. Horrible service and horrendous at doing the basic things nurses should be trained to do. Avoid the Niagara Health System if possible.
The maternity ward, NICU in particular, nearly killed me and my son. No more words to express the pain and suffering they caused. Bunch of fake, lying, dishonest, unprofessional lunatics. Please, have your beautiful babies anywhere bar here.
I went there at 10am today and despite the size of the huge car park there was not one spot available. There were several people driving round and round like me but nothing. There were several rows of illegally parked cars at the end of the rows but again no spaces. Because of their ticket system you have to leave your car and go and pay to get out again even though you could not park but of course there's was nowhere to leave the car because it was so packed. Ridiculous.
I understand this site was smoke free. Today when I went to Walker Clinic there were patients smoking beside the parking lot for emergency. Where are their security? Oh wait they were at the road smoking as we left the parking lot. And to the administrative woman on the 2nd. floor of the Walker Clinic, when a patient and tax payer (paying your wages) are speaking to you, may I suggest you put down your muffin and not speak with your mouth full. Whatever happened to manors?
This hospital is in need of being audited on the quality and care from Emergency room patients to the cleanliness and mechanics of broken down facilities. It is sad that we live in a country where children and elderly have to sit in a room together for 6+ hours waiting for “help” while being bounced from one triage to another. It is such a disappointing system.
Got to the emergancy room with horrible pain under my ribs. I am Immune compermize and still waiting to be triaged its been over an hour. Watch as at least 6 people come in after me and get in a room. I understand emergancies happen but to get a cast removed. Worse experance I've had in all my year.
6+ hours just to see a doctor, and even longer for any sort of treatment. Please invest in a vending machine that takes credit/debit which dispenses water bottles! Nurses and doctors also mocking an older woman who clearly has some mental disorder... really unprofessional
I wish I could give a negative rating for my emergency room visit. A completely horrible experience. I honestly don’t mind long wait times, I know places like this tend to be understaffed, but this experience was horrendous. My boyfriend took me in because I was in an extreme amount of pain. The nurse at the front desk was too busy socializing to notice we were there, and when she did she made me say my reason for coming in quite loudly, so everyone else in the waiting room heard my personal medical information. The triage nurse was fine, asked me to take a urine sample and give it to the nurse at the front desk. There is no private washroom to do this in, so I had to walk past a lot of people to and from the washroom with my sample. Tried to give it to the nurse and she told me she didn’t want it (despite the fact that I was told to give it to her) and made me keep my urine sample IN MY PURSE for the remainder of my 4 hour stay (the paramedics behind the desk with her laughed at me). While I was taking my sample, a receptionist had called my name to check me in, but of course I didn’t hear because I was in the washroom. When she called later and I arrived at the window, her colleagues were extremely passive aggressive and yelled extremely rude things at me for the whole waiting room to hear. The receptionist then proceeded to complain about me to my face. When she asked my address, I had to repeat it 5 times, spell it for her twice, and then write it down for her (mind you, I was there for a UTI that had reached my bladder. I was in immense pain and this woman could not have been less compassionate). There was a man who came in with severe abdominal pain, he was screaming and crying and vomiting extremely violently. He began begging for help and the nurse instead called security on him. They did nothing, and left him in a chair screaming and begging for help. The only pleasant interaction I had was with the doctor that took care of me later (Dr. Singh). He apologized profusely for the wait, listened to what I had to say, wrote me a prescription and sent me home. He was very caring and honestly the only person in that emergency room staff that isn’t grossly negligent or incompetent.
Where do I start? I had total right hip replacement on September 16th at the General in St Catharines. Dr. McCloy is my surgeon and I cant say enough about him. His assistant Stacy is incredible, she had a way of making me feel so much better and relaxing my nerves and stress about the surgery and the assisting staff were the best as well. I cant say enough about the PEOPLE at this facility.... from the security guard who obviously knew I was stressed to the nurses in the pre OP area were great, and treated me like family and gave me a hard time, (this is good for me) makes you feel like family,, lol. The orderly that took me to OR, thank you for making me laugh, and to the nurses that took care of me,,,, respect always, Michelle, Ellen, Amanda, Brittany, James,Surge the physio guys and a couple other names I for the life of me I cant remember your names,,,, Thank You so Much, classy bunch of people that made this a very easy thing for me to do. I highly recommend the facility in St Catharines, words are not enough, but thank you again.
Had my gall bladder out yesterday. Nothing but excellent care and kind nurses through the whole procession!! Thanks to all who cared for me! Much appreciated❤
Suffered a miscarriage, excruciating pain and no one seemed to care. Waited in the ER for 8 hours than 3 inside the secondary wait room. To have to suffer the excruciating pain of this physically, than the 11 hour wait and than the 3 hour wait the next day for the ultrasound and bad news was traumatic. I never felt more alone at a time like this, in a hospital and not being able to have someone there. Shame on the ER for not getting me in sooner. Niagara Falls emergency is far quicker and I recommend anyone needing emergency care to go to Niagara Falls first despite the look of the hospital
My 17 months old was sick his temperature was 40.9 and he was screaming in pain in the emergency waiting room and they let us in after 4.5 hours and when I talk to them they dont give any estimates mt experience with this place is absolutely garbage. To all parents please DO NOT tale ur kids there if you can make it and drive all the way to Mcmaster children hospital in Hamilton you will receive much better service and they will let you in within 30 mins maximum.
I had surgery there 4 weeks ago and the whole experience was amazing. I felt well cared for at all times (I was in for 4 days). I have had a few experiences with ER as well and they have all been exceptional. This is a great facility with wonderful staff who work very hard to provide excellent care.
Honestly, its an amazing well equipped hospital with sub par doctors and a few kind nurses. I dont get why our tax dollars pay for such service. The hospital charges money for parking (understandable under a lot of cases) but then has you sit there in ER for hours to finally tell you that they dont want to help you, that its not serious enough. You walk out to leave, already upset that they are too incompetent to even flush out the ear of someone, to find out they charged $12 for absolutely nothing. A few days prior? Let out an old man that had surgery (dialysis) and a few other issues without properly checking him over. He had a heart attack on the drive home and got into a collision. Thankfully he is alright, but I would expect proper care at such an expensive hospital. If not for how kind the nurses were I would probably be more than annoyed.
my experience with this hospital is terrible on multiple occasions, when having my child there and him having to stay in icu the nurses failed to wash their hands in between rooms wich caused my son to have a bacterial rash on his bum. They were very rude and disrespectful to me and my wife, the only nice one was an intern. they released my baby from icu because quote "we need the room and he is in the best health of all the babys" he weighed less then when he was born and didnt even pass the car seat test wich they responded "just drive him straight home and he'll be fine" they were also so full that they put a baby in a storage closet that they had because they had no room. You might think to yourself well you cant rate the hospital as a whole based on the ICU, and you are right so let me continue. Ive gone in the bathroom on the main floor and read the cleaning chart it wasnt cleaned for over 24 hours. A doctor in the ER tried to tell me that my baby had herpes LOL, later a more professional doctor came and told me that was just a idiot of a doctor. Ive been misdiagnosed from doctors there. When tested for strep throat they told me they would tell me the results on 2 days.......... your telling me a hospital doesnt have the machine to tell you if its strep or not but any common doctors office or walk in clinic does? LONG LONG wait times. Fealing sick? prepare for at least 3-4 hour wait minimum. the list goes on and on. Avoid this hospital if at all possible, if having a baby try to get to hamilton if you can, i forgot to mention they didnt technicly kick my wife out less then 12 hours after having the baby but told her if she wants she can go or they will have to move her to another room with other mothers. my wife felt fine and decided to leave but thats because she was so doped up on the drugs they gave her might i add forgot to take off the fetanyl IV drip bag.
Niagara Health System is a textbook example of the failings by the Canadian healthcare system. It begs the question of whether or not our healthcare system is in fact superior to that of the United States. People die on the NHS' watch...what good is a fancy building with no doctors or beds to cater to those in need...I know health care is a tricky thing, but something has to be done. Staff/nurses were nice though
2.7 ratings..... What a shame... Take a load of the comments before going to this hospital. I experienced it personally and will not visit again. I have seen elders and children waiting for very long hours for medical attention. What is the point of having a huge hospital if the doctors can't treat patients in a timely manner? Atlast after a long wait, when I saw the doctor, he treated me like I disturbed him during his break!!! This is not professionalism, the doctors spent more time on computers rather than treating patients... Are you guys low on staff or what? Are the patients a part of some kind of experiment?????
My mom went in to emerge. Nurse was very rude, had no compassion. Was terribly rude on the phone. Wouldn't even bring her a glass of water. She has no idea what her blood results were. They didnt tell her what medications they gave her other than gravol. My mom is 65 and they made her cry. Myself nor my sister could be with her due to covid. In the morning the patient in the bed beside her was given a breakfast. Mom was discharged, didn't know how to leave the hospital as she had never been there before, nurse was huffy and said down the hall and out the exit, your daughter is on her way. She sat on a bench alone in the heat waiting. The nurse got mad because she couldnt grab the pill to take it. She could barely see and was struggling to walk down the hall to leave. It's been almost a week and she's still not right. Went to family dr and found out that she had a stroke. Absolutely terrible health care.
What a horrible hospital and the doctors in the ER are just aweful. My son went their at 4 he needed stitches on his chin which he waited 3.5 hours to get in. Time he seen a doctor he told him to go home and finish shaving his face and then come back The doctor then started his stitches and forgot to freeze him first being really rough with his face and not even covering the area after. Nice 7 hour visit to come home in more pain.
