Utterly useless. They make promises and don't keep them. The psychiatrist I saw told me to contact him if I ever needed help. When I did contact him during a crisis, he told me to go somewhere else.

I've been a client for a few years and the staff are great. Everyone treats me with dignity and respect. I've overcome a lot of challenges and CAMH has been there to motivate me to be able overcome my obstacles.

One of the best Mental health care facilities in Canada. Most psychiatrists from hospitals all over study here.

My clinicians are great. In treated fairly. I'm not content with how CAMH has taken... Research on various treatment models as usual, but with its budget as large as it is, the wait times in what limited section and availability of programmes offer, well they're not at all close to one another. I sat on a wait list for over a year(I checked in etc) and then it was cancelled.

**IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH PLEASE READ** I'm 21 yrs old and have a history of mental health problems going undiagnosed as well as complex developmental trauma. I care about other people's health and some of the people working at CAMH do NOT. I couldn't type a review because my explanation of my experience exceeded the character limit. I organized my experience in screenshots with numbers for order to be more helpful. I try to be the nicest person I can but this situation has gone too far for me to stay quiet about it. Rest in peace to the people who have died under or dismissed from their care at CAMH. Untreated ADHD past 18 or earlier causes people to be incapable of functioning later in life and increases the chances of your depression/anxiety spiraling out of control. These doctors seem to not acknowledge that at all. I hope this can help someone make a more informed decision about going either going to CAMH or considering these specific doctors for their care. And people wonder why roughly 10 Canadians a day , everyday continue to commit suicide. Our citizens are neglected and advocating for mental health doesn't matter when you are "cared" for in the ways described below.

I had the worse experience ever the doctor I had told me to stop taking my meds for my anxiety cause he wanted to put me on a higher dosage. He told me that the closest thing I have with anxiety is generalized anxiety which I could have told him myself he told me that I don't have enough panic attacks to have Generalized anxiety that I need to have one everyday . This is all from the first day, today I go back for a follow up and I had to explain everything to him again of how I was feeling. Not only that but my appointment was at 3pm today so I get there early and the doctor took me in at 3:20pm and had the nerve to ask me if I had just got there and was smiling the whole time I was beyond mad and I told him how I felt. As we were talking I told him from the last time I saw him last week I had 3 panic attacks and he said yea from March and I said no he tried to not listen to how I was feeling because I had to keep repeating my self over and over as he was asking me the same questions. After that he had suggested that he change my whole medication system and give me 2 different types of medications I feel like he had no clue at what he was doing he didn't even know what AA was. I am not very happy with the service I got, the doctors should know what they are doing.

I have had some of the worst experiences in my life with CamH. I have been misdiagnosed, over diagnosed, over medicated and my health records are subjectively inaccurate. It has been a long road with this hospital and I am ending it with most of my records needing corrections (errors in factual information as well as subjective information) and then I plan to lockbox my records so they do not affect my future healthcare. Up until 2015 CamH ran a gender/sexual orientation conversion clinic, which is reprehensible and irresponsible not to mention unethical and it makes me extremely sad for the already marginalized youth who had to endure the program at the whim of their parents and "doctors" who should have had their best interests at heart. This is a type of therapy that for many years before 2015 has been know to have no efficacy because there is nothing wrong with these patients - they just need to adapt to an incredibly judgemental society that is scared and lashes out at anything they don't understand. This program is archaic and I find it truly disturbing how long CamH clung on to it for. CamH advertises on their website that they treat ADHD - which they should given their role in their patient's mental health, but they then mislabel it as "childhood disorder" and have no adult ADHD doctors at all - they apparently had one and he left. They don't screen their patients for ADHD during their initial assessment, so an ADHD diagnosis probably gets missed quite often and if CamH is your intro into the world of psychiatry your treatment for it will probably be delayed by years, if you ever even get comprehensive care. They are the sort of hospital that rigidly adheres to the DSM, even though it changes all the time and is more of a guide that is constantly evolving to help physicians begin to diagnose and treat people rather than a strict rule set. I have also found that they tend to pathologize normal emotions, twisting them into whatever diagnoses they have already given you , which is an example of extreme confirmation bias - that is not science. The emergency department was the most traumatizing experience of my life. They degrade you, by speaking down to you, ignoring you and questioning you until you begin to doubt yourself and then they question that too. I recommend that, if you are unfortunate enough to have to go here, you strongly advocate for yourself, or your loved one if they are incapable of doing so for themselves. Play an active role in your (or your loved one's) health care, read, learn, write everything down if you have to, work with the doctors to direct your treatment and defend your rights.

A needed establishment that could use significantly more funding. Everyone knows someone struggling with some issues and these guys are here to help. It takes time to get into their group therapy classes but it truly does help.

I have been a patient at CAMH since Jan 2018. I am grateful for being referred by my family physician as some symptoms were deteriorating over a period of 1 year. The administrative staff, doctors, social workers, scientists, clinical laboratory specialists, janitors and security people are all pleasant, amazingly empathetic and truly caring. This has been my observation during every visit since I got registered as a client. My psychiatrist and the group therapy personnel are compassionate, always concerned and resourceful. I am blessed to be a patient at CAMH and receive treatments from amazing human beings. Thank You and God bless!

This place SUCKS. I just called 5 TIMES and the phone rings, SOMEONE PICKS UP and HANGS UP. Place is a joke

I wish they would have taken the time to address my partner's needs, when she went to see them over a year ago pleading for help. Maybe she would not have attempted suicide later that year, if someone had been there for her.

Probably one of the worst experiences of my life. I was both a inpatient and a outpatient. The outpatient social work was the only thing I found beneficial to my mental health but as a 17 year old I was admitted to the mood and anxiety unit for youth. Some of the staff were very loving and caring towards your needs but the ones who weren't were absolutely atrocious. I remember them eating outside food infront of us constantly while we had to eat basically food worse than hospital food. I also remember a child and youth worker telling me I shouldnt be in there because she was comparing me to the other patients as I was only there for anxiety and depression but some patients were there for much worse problems. Honestly only come here if it's your final option. The youth worker staff definitely need upgrading.

Beware of Tamara grundland she’s unprofessional and over shares her personal life about her abortions and medications she’s on. Shouldn’t be a social worker but fits in with the morons at camh

To be honest, CAMH has to be one of the worst emergency clinic I have ever been to in my life. I was in distressed and felt alone. They didnt take anything I said seriously, they sent me home with nothing. I was absolutely sicken. I am a victim of being kidnapped/ abused. The min they asked me if I had reported it I was mocked and not believed. Most victims do not report or tell anyone what happened to them. They should even know that but unfortunately they are not properly trained. They were helping everyone, I got sat aside to be the only patient in the waiting room until 2am just to be given no therapy or support and/or medication. I dont understand why it was taken lightly? Why I wasnt afford support? Why is this ALWAYS shrugged under the rug? No one likes to talk about the REAL ISSUE. It is Literally gut wreching to see i am not alone and being failed as well. We as human beings are reaching out for help and then they are sent home and they either try to attempt or commit suicide. Most of the time professionals are only in for the pay roll, not to genuinely help someone. If this was one of their family members it would've been different and handed help. DO BETTER CAMH.

This is not a place that helps the mentally ill the let my uncle who has been dealing with mental illnesses and has been refusing medication and had released him at 1 am showing up at his 61 year old sister house in 3 in the morning I'm tired of having to get him help I need to get a lawyer and judge involved should be ashamed to not want to do your jobs get sick of dealing with the ill and act like your doing something by having them there for a week and send the problem on the way so you guys stay in business if you fix the patient then you'll be out of job no wonder ford cuts budgets it's not like you guys work with or without a raise and the guy that answered the phone at 3 am Tuesday June 11 2019 is rude unprofessional and should not have a job that is dealing with people I had no idea they hired patients!

Linda Sutton

I was there last yr. This place is amazing. The staff all staff are wonderful. I can not say enough good about CAMH had not even been in a hospital since I was a child and I felt safe and well cared for. I was in the detox location and their medical withdrawl is amazing. I am doing good and would recommend this place, highly to anyone who needs it. Cheers to the work they do and a foot note here They listen to you and that meant the world to me as I had not felt listened to in a long time again Thx!!!!!!!!

SWITCHBOARD is HORRIBLE. Nobody ever knows anything & all they do is transfer you to voicemails. We ask about vaccine clinic hours they state it’s not their job to know. ED registration staff same thing except evening & weekend staff are more knowledgeable and friendly & actually take the time to help you find out before they disconnect. Switchboard staff should take notes from ED registration staff because they’re more knowledgeable than you. Everyone at switchboard is so rude & sounds like they just hate their job, people & life it self, that’s how we felt talking to them each and every time we called. Also during our visit to the ED dept not only did the screeners ask for my healthcare which I instantly shut that down because that’s my confidential information that they should not be asking for but due to the screeners I also found out how many of your staff are vaccinated how many of your staff have negative and positive covid test results. In other words screeners should try to keep personal medical information of CAMH staff a bit more personal because clients in the waiting area can actually hear everything you’re saying. Is there no more privacy at CAMH??

Tamara grundland will inappropriately touch adults and minors female or male it doesn’t matter. She just chats about her abortions and person life during YOUR sessions. Stay far away. She has many complaints with the college of social workers

I would only say that there is room for improvement, quicker service would be appreciated.

Close friend I was helping went here and the only emphasis was on more medication than true help for their situation. When they went to an outside psychologist to work on DBT/CBT (dialectic and cognitive therapy) they were shocked at the medication levels CAMH wanted. I know it's not for everyone; but the friend stopped taking medication completely by gradually weining off; became like themselves again and have been attending consistent therapy to get emotional support. Huge difference in their health and wellness. I wish these institutions didn't have such a quick jump to prescribe meds. That should be a last call if a person can't be treated in other ways. I know there must be privacy issues, but there should be a way to connect with multiple family members and friends and have ways to check the person is actually ok and well; that they are not trapped in an abusive relationship/abusive caretaker and can have people to help them who actually want them to succeed. Connection, therapy, support and coping mechanisms are so important beyond medications.
