I did the sleep study and had a terrible night sleep fell a sleep around midnight woke up around ~4 am. I let the lady know this and marked it on my paperwork . When I went in for the results the lady said I had Sleep apnea and needed a machine. When I looked at the data sheet they give it has me going to bed around 6 pm and waking up at 7:15 am. When I mentioned this the lady said you still have sleep apnea and need a machine. When I told her I can't trust the results if the time is off she said the data is right. Interesting because from 4:30 on I wasn't even wearing the machine. Rudely, she promised to rebook me for another study. After a month they called to rebook and I said no. This place needs to get it's customer service together.
The lady sleep specialist made unprofessional comments to me. She also widened her eyes when looking at how many caffeinated beverages I consumed. Even if it's well above average, you should not react that way when you are a doctor. I literally told her " you aren't suppose to say that you are a doctor." I was just very surprised I didn't think someone in the medical field would make such unprofessional comments, I felt personally attacked.
Dr. Kular is awesome. Sleeping better now than I have for years!
Dr. Khullar is dedicated and patient in trying to resolve my teen child’s sleeping disorder. He’s also very good at being on schedule. We appreciate his help.
Really don't want to have to give this place such a poor review. The medical knowledge here is wonderful and I've gotten support for a condition that no one else would even care to investigate. I sincerely appreciate that. However, it is excruciating trying to deal with with place outside of your scheduled doctor's appointment. I have numerous examples. Was told in November I was being referred for testing, supposedly would take no longer than 2-3 months to be able to get in. I hear nothing in January, and I start checking in, nothing in February, continue checking in, nothing in March and by then/April, am quite aggressively checking in. After all that time, I find out the referral was missed. Why did it take so long to figure that out, especially when I kept checking in, being dismissed with, "you should hear back any day now". So I didn't end up getting my testing until August! This has severely affected my quality of life, stress in dealing with work and insurance. I do have a diagnosis now, which I am so grateful for. But I got the diagnosis in September, got my daytime meds adjusted and was told to give it 6 weeks on adjusted daytime meds before coming back for my night time prescription. I knew within a few weeks that I had reached equilibrium and was NOT DOING well. I was ready to start on nighttime meds end of September because I was not getting any better... daytime meds had reached their limit. Even in my distressed state, I asked to have my appointment moved up earlier and there was a big deal made about it. Fine, I'll bite the bullet and wait until Oct. 15. I arrived Oct. 15, having held my breath for that appointment, thinking I'd just have to hold it together until the 15th and it would get better after that. So MUCH FOR THAT IDEA! :'( Little did I know, there's a whole procedure and process for this night time medication and it is November 5th and I'm STILL WAITING... on paperwork. This is outrageous. I'm not holding it together anymore. I made it to Oct. 15 running on fumes (and hope) and had nothing left to carry onwards with after that. I tell my work... oh any day... for the LAST THREE WEEKS. There is no sense of urgency or responsibility when patients lives and livelihoods are on the line.
I would suggest going to another sleep clinic rather than this one on Meadowlark Road in Edmonton. The organization is not respectful of people's time or their privacy: 4 of us were booked into a very small room at the same time! I clearly felt like I was just another potential customer for purchasing an expensive C-PAP Machine. The office staff is unprofessional, sometimes arrogant, and definitely not helpful, and not courteous. The professional staff is marginally helpful. I learned SO MUCH more about my diagnosis, my treatment options and sleep apnea in general from my dentist than I did from the sleep physician!
Terrible patient service. The more focused on how to make the patient accomodate them rather than how to treat and accomodate the patient. Not recommended, if you can get a different referral, do it.
I have been going to this sleep clinic for about 3 years and I have had very complex sleep issues, but with the help of Dr. Khullar and Dr. Young, my quality of life has improved a lot. I recommend making an appointment at this clinic for any sleep problems.
Worst staff ever ! Had to reschedule because of an emergency and lady says they have to charge me because I missed an appointment 3 years ago.
I have had nightmares of choking for years. Not fun for me or anyone around me in my house. It took a long time to find a mask that worked for me so I didn't use it for over 2years . I tried again, found a better mask and now I can't sleep without it. I wake up so much more rested and no more choking dreams!! They were right, I just had to find what worked. Get your doctor to send you to another sleep clinic. I was initially referred here. The first appointment was with FOUR other people so there was no private opportunity to ask questions, and we couldn't start until the last person decided to show up. The testing equipment is brutal! I don't know why they don't switch it for the more comfortable equipment available. How do you do a sleep test when you can't sleep because of the equipment? Also, they said it would take 6 WEEKS to get back in to follow up on the results. I switched to RHS and got in immediately, with a wait time of a little over a week for the results. Not to mention, they use equipment you can actually sleep with.
I recently moved to Edmonton after having lived in Calgary, and was a bit worried about switching to a new sleep doctor, as I had a really positive experience in Calgary, and was hopeful that that would continue. I have a very erratic work schedule, which means that my treatments basically have to work around that- and Dr. Khullar is very sympathetic to my needs and feelings, and is willing to work around my work schedule. He is also very keen to find something that works- which is something I've been trying to do for years. The struggle is to find something that works- but that doesn't have side-effects that compromise my quality of life. He's willing to change prescriptions, and tinker with amounts, and seems to know my file well enough to know which ones have caused me agony in the past. Very grateful for a doctor who pays attention to past medical records, is willing to work with a varied lifestyle, and to try everything he can think of in order to make me experience as close to a 'normal' lifestyle as possible. The receptionists are also wonderful- always sweet, smiling, and have a good sense of humour when I crack awkward jokes, and even the man downstairs in the pharmacy is down-to-earth, kind, and also has a good sense of humour. Great people all around.
Getting the referral and seeing Dr. Khullar has been life changing for me. He is so knowledgeable and kind. He takes all meds into consideration when he has to prescribe and is excellent at sending treatment updates to my family doctor. I don't have sleep apnea and a c-pap machine was never suggested or forced upon me as some of the other reviewers have said.
I have had nothing but good experiences here and the staff is helpful. In regards to the previous review, they don't actually sell CPAP there and seem fairly impartial as to where you go to buy so I don't see the gain in pushing it unnecessarily. The only thing that I think needs improving is they should have the software to download your CPAP stats instead of sending you down the hall to the place that sells them. It's not complicated stuff, I put the software on my home computer and print the reports myself to save the hassle.
My son and I visited yesterday. My son was extremely anxious and wa a total mess emotionally. Dr Kuhlar was very cold and unsympathetic offered no help to either of us. We left there feeling hopeless. My son was suicidal the police had to get involved. What kind of Dr. tells you to come back in 2 months when you're begging for help now?
Dr. Khullar is very caring and concerned to investigate the correct medical problem to prescribe the correct meds if needed. He has been a life saver for my son.
Dr khullar has made my life significantly better. As great as reviews can be, as well as inflammatory, your experience at this clinic and in life in general will vastly be determined by your personality, and general outlook on situations.
Dr.khullar is amazing he listens takes time to work with you and find the root cause for your problem, he is compassionate and kind- definitely worth a visit and waiting if you need help.
Update: I have tried to remedy the issues of my review, but the Sleep Specialist here has REJECTED to even speak to me over it. Pathetic. Unprofessional. Incompetent. Greedy. Deceitful. They put up a wonderful bravado of truly caring and deep professionalism! Until you are informed you must go to a SECOND Clinic they work with, in which you are lied to, deceived, and pressured into a Sleep Apnea machine even if not needed, while alternative options are NOT discussed - and if brought up, ignored. Their staff is incompetent, having left a phone off the hook, leaving a Voice Mail for over 15 minutes where I could hear Alberta Health Numbers, Patient Names, and private conversations discussed(!). When I reported this incident - it was promptly ignored and no concern shown. You, are a number on a production line - your health, is second to profits and they will ensure to make you come in for appointment after appointment for the simplest things to nickle and dime you. Do not be fooled as I was. They do not care about you, only if they can make money off using fear tactics to trick you into buying expensive Tests and Machines you DO NOT need. Pathetic.
Staff not very competent. In my opinion, this place exists solely to try to sell everyone a CPAP [sleep apnea] machine, even when it's not medically necessary.
