A couple of weeks ago my sister booked a spa day for us as a birthday gift at Carriel. We had been there before a couple of times for facials and pedicures and had a great experience but the most recent wasn’t so. I’d like to start out saying it wasn’t all bad but just things the esthetician’s need to work on. The facial was nice and we were happy with that treament. After the facial our spa day lead into the pedicure. As we waited for the esthetician’s to take us to the pedicure room my esthetician asked my sister if she wanted tea, my sister who happens to be timid and reserved said “no thanks” to which the worker replied with a judgey look “you know it’s free right??” I guess she was trying to be funny but it didn’t really land. As we get seated and feet soaking, my esthetician stared at us with annoyance in her face and said “I wish we could switch!” As in I should be scrubbing her feet instead. She pouted sayin that she was tired... again I didn’t really find that humorous but I let it go. My sisters esthetician wasn’t so bad, she just tried to pull conservation out of my sister when my sister was clearly shy and just wanted peace and quiet. Earlier, in the facial room, my esthetician wanted to know our ethnicity, which I found harmless, but she brought it up again to the fellow esthetician asking obnoxiously “guess their ethnicity! C’mon guess what it is, you would never of guessed by looking at them!!” Which made us all uncomfortable, other esthetician included. As the service continued, my esthetician would look up at my sister and stare at her and at one point it had bothered me so much that I asked her what her deal was and why the staring, she kind of just laughed and asked how old she was... Then when the pedicure was wrapping up they recommended beauty items for us buy and I enquired about lip balm for dry weather. My esthetician left the room for a moment and my sisters esthetician asked if we wanted dried dates and figs as she knew we were hungry and I said sure! While nibbling on a fig, my esthetician comes back ready to apply a lip balm which I had no idea was going to happen but she comes at me astonished as if I’m stuffing my face and rudely says “Omg your eating?!!” Not happy with that reaction as I’m very sensitive about my body right now. Anyway, my esthetician really needs to work on her delivery and how she treats other people. My sister spent several hundred dollars to make our day special and those comments and the esthetician’s scowls have rubbed us the wrong way. We still tipped 18% for their time and work but don’t think we can return.

I found myself being on the receiving end of a full spa day treatment for my birthday/anniversary. (thanks hubby!). It included a body scrub, body wrap, massage, facial, lunch, manicure, pedicure, hair wash/dry/style. Boy oh boy, was I ever on cloud 9! I had heard from some friends and coworkers that Carrie'l is quite reputable (and I even sensed some jealousy) when I was excitedly boasting about it. I was in super great hands for the whole day! From 9am to about 2pm, I was treated like a goddess, and even looked the part when I left. Thank you to everyone in the spa and salon that made this day happen! I looked and felt like a million dollars!

The staff at Carrie'L truly go above and beyond with their clients and I can't thank them enough for giving me the hair of my dreams! Amanda and Dorinda are so helpful and patient with someone like me who literally has no idea how to style their hair. A week after the perm I had some concerns which ended up being 100% rectified after being invited back for a styling lesson (how fun is that!?). These ladies know their trade and it's an art! I finally have the technique down and will be returning to Amanda as my regular stylist from now on. Thank you so much for teaching me about the different products and techniques! And don't even get me started on the spa side of Carrie'L - I could spend an entire day just chatting with Vanessa about skin care. The Signature Facial is a total treat and Vanessa really knows a lot about the products involved. I loved all of her recommendations! Front of house and management are always so friendly and approachable. I see a lot of people complaining about the price, but I'll pay anything for good service and customer care these days. TAKE MY MONEY!!!!! This place is worth every penny. High end products, exceptional service and skill, and management totally went above and beyond to ensure I was happy. Again, I can’t say enough great things about this place! This is hands down THE BEST, full service salon and spa in the city. Located off Jasper Ave, this salon and spa is located in a 4 level converted house, but don’t let that fool you. There is ample parking on the side streets (2 hour free, as well as meter) and a private parking lot located behind the building. Inside, the spa is posh, clean and tranquil. The main level houses the reception area and front desk with products and merchandise for sale, the hair cutting floor and manicure/pedicure stations. Upstairs’ is the color bar. And the lower levels are where the massage rooms and facial’s, waxing and laser treatments (to name a few) take place. The bottom level boasts men’s and women’s locker rooms with what I have to describe as the greatest and most relaxing showers ever, along with complimentary hair products and toiletries for use. For such a high end place, the staff are extremely friendly, outgoing, polite and really care about their clientele. Not only is everyone extremely knowledgeable in their respected fields but they take time to really get to know you! I am a huge fan of great customer service and the staff at Carrie L Salon are top notch. Booking appointments have never been easier! Here you have the option of calling or booking online. The online booking is easy to navigate and you can pick your esthetician/masseurs or hair dresser as well as date and time. If the time you pick is not available, you are also given several alternate options. I especially like that if I call in and book, the reception staff will always put me with the same staff member that I usually see. Another small detail that I love, is every time before I leave and I am paying for my services I am always offered the option to re-book my next appointment. This is really convenient and great business skills! Staff have also time and time again showed that they are willing to accommodate me as best they can, wether it is for last minute appointments, or getting squeezed in with a favorite esthetician. I have also purchased gift certificates in the past, which I was able to prepay with my credit card over the phone. This is a great gift idea, for virtually anyone in your life! Again, they are a full service salon and spa and there is something for everyone! They even cater to a lot of men and have specialized facials and such for men too! As for spa packages, there are pre made packages that you can choose from, individual or couples, with the option to add a light lunch. There is also the option to build your own packages. I come here religiously for facials and massages. Whenever my skin is feeling dull, I schedule and appointment here and Shanyn who is my go to girl, makes me look great again! Also, Nikki is my favorite for massages, I have never had a better massage in my life! I highly recommend this place. You will NOT be disappointed. Went yesterday to get my eyebrows waxed and got my first lash lift and tint and I had Aleksandra as an esthetician. She was great! She walked me through everything she was doing and she was very thorough! While I was waiting for the lifting agent to work she even gave me a hand massage! I also get very red after my eyebrows get waxed and she was sweet enough to apply some powder to make me not look so red. Definitely my new place for my eyebrows! It was a little on the costly side but worth it in my eyes. She did such a great job :)

I loved everything about my experience - I came to Carrie'L Salon last Saturday for a cut and color. The location is downtown in a older style house (super cute) with free parking at the back for customers. I was warmly greeted and offered some water while I waited for Sinead the stylist. The staff was very nice and Sinead did a wonderful job with my hair! She took extra care to wipe off the dye from my neck, face and ears which is much appreciated as I hate going home with dye stains on my face. I was very happy with the cut and color and plan on returning to this salon for my next cut and color!

I was at the salon a couple weeks ago for a haircut. They were overpriced but I needed a haircut and I just needed a day to pamper myself with a nice haircut. I had been to the salon before but that was many years before. I think now the management has changed hands. My stylist, was polite and nice but the service was lacking, my hair cut was rushed and I really did not feel that I was at a salon. I was not asked about my hair, I was not told what products are being used in my hair to wash it and style. The Stylist was very rough when she washed my hair and I had a headache for 2 days. After my style, my hair was frizzy and staticy and it felt quite dry. When you go to a salon you expect to get the treatment of salon quality and that your hair be of salon-quality when you leave but that's not what happened. After getting home and looking at myself in detail in the mirror. I noticed that I wasn't satisfied with the cut that I had asked for. I had asked that too much of the length not be taken off and it was taken off. As I mentioned the stylist was very nice in her manner but I feel that the whole experience was lacking a salon experience and it just felt like I went to some cheap haircut place where I could have paid less the price to do what she did. When I emailed the salon and when I called them on the phone to talk to them about my experience what they could offer me was not ideal and I was not prepared to come back into the salon and have them cut more of my hair off but that's all they could offer you, no refund. I even asked if part of the money could be put towards products in their store you know I'm still giving business to their Salon even after the bad experience but that was out of the question as well. Finally have given up accepted this as what it was a bad experience at a salon that I will never return to.

I attended Carrie’L on a recommendation from a colleague as a nice spa for a celebration event. Unfortunately at some time during our spa treatments cash was taken from my purse in my locked locker. As soon as I realized money was missing I reported it to the manager. The theft was reported at the halfway point of our spa day. The manager said she would have a solution for me by the time we left. At the time we left the spa her “solution” was to tell me to file a police report. I was quite insulted and felt like my concerns were not being taken seriously by management as I was not even given an apology. Then I thought since I was a new client and it was cash maybe she doesn’t trust that I am not a con artist and I accepted her concerns. I did file a police report that evening. I phoned the spa the next day to let the manager know that I did indeed file a police report and provided her with the file number. At that time she told me that that they are going to change their lockers from key lockers to lockers with pin codes and then she suggested that I ask the police to fingerprint the contents of my purse so they can know for sure who had access to my purse. To me this suggestion feels incredibly insulting and mistrustful and to me it feels like an insinuation that the only way to prove I am telling the truth is if there is fingerprint evidence that someone else touched my purse contents. I reported a concern about the safety of Carrie’L clients and client’s possessions to the management. At no point did I demand the money back or demand compensation for my loss yet now my complaint has turned it into the manager’s own game of CSI. How Carrie’L internally solves the issue of my complaint should be their own internal issue and not something they are stressing out a client over, particularly a client who paid her entire $409 bill for services, plus paid tips despite having money removed from her purse during treatments there. Apart from the missing money, and having a day that was to be a special celebration tainted, there is also the inconvenience of having to go to the police station to file a report and then the further inconvenience of having to cancel my bank and credit card (although no cards were taken, my purse was compromised and the thief had access to my credit cards and could have written down the numbers). I am not impressed at all by how the manager at Carrie’L Salon and Spa has handled this situation and by forgoing the cost of an apology I will be sharing my experience with friends, colleagues and on social media.

I went there to dye my hair almost a year ago. they left me with seriously damaged hair. I take good care of my hair and it's not naturally dry and fragile. My hair is damaged all the way up to the Coloured part and it had not been grown out completely. I was not able to straighten or curle my hair at all for this whole time since it's so easy to break and is super dry after dyed. I have never had so much split ends before I went to this salon. Decided to write this review today because my new hair dresser told me that she has never saw damage like this and its because they put too much ammonia to have a faster process. Don't go into this salon to dye your hair if you don't want your hair to be damaged all the way to the roots.

***Do not do facial and waxing service here, it is garbage***. They have very higher prices for such garbage end result. My mother went in for her facial and they didn't guide her though as in what is included in it and basically didn't answer my mom's requests and she ended up with an almost untouched facial service. We are very disappointed with their service providers.

I've gone here to get my hair permed and cut. Loved it both times. Ladies are super nice and actually listen to what you want. I've also gone here for deep tissue massages with Spencer. Super nice guy and was able to work out my sore muscles. It is pricey but it's worth what you pay.

Do you really want to attend at spa where you might have to file a police report? Horrible management at Carrie'l Salon and Spa,1414 100 Avenue Northwest, Edmonton. For my 50th birthday my friend and I went for a mud treatment and pedicure at Carrie'l. Both of us were excited and looking forward to a bit of relaxing and pampering. However, this experience was ruined by the theft of $240. Sometime during our treatment time $240 cash was stolen from a locker. The locker are far enough removed from public intrusion that it had to be one of the staff responsible for the theft. While I can appreciate things can happen, it's the way management responds that makes all the difference in the outcome of the experience, how I feel about their business and what type of review is written. The management at Carrie'l did nothing to "right" this experience. What they did suggest is we contact the police and file a report (which we did). Is this anyway to treat customers?

I was actually pretty disappointed with my visit. I was expecting to pay $20 for my nails I did not know the $20 gel polish application was only if you get a manicure, pedicure or nail buff, if I had known this prior to getting my nails done then I wouldn't have gone through with the appointment. I also am displeased with how my nails turned out, for spending $47 on them they are already flawed. There are bubbles in the polish as well as chipping around the edges and the overall application doesn't look like it was done properly. The lady I went to was extremely kind and professional but there was another nail tech there who was rude in my opinion, she walked over to the nail desk while the lady was working on my nails and said "are you done soon" to which my nail tech had said she had other appointments after me which then caused the other nail tech to walk away unhappy and then later come by the desk again and complain about how there is only one nail desk in the salon, I found this behavior extremely unprofessional. I would really just like my money back, I feel like the overall experience, quality and misleading pricing was just extremely disappointing.

My new favourite spa! I had come here a couple of times for my brows and always have a great experience. On Saturday I had the BEST spa day! I started with a massage from Alina, it was so relaxing and therapeutic. She is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about what she does. I can’t wait for my next appointment with her! The rest of the day I spent with Kerrie. The whole day was like I was hanging out with a girlfriend! I’ve been struggling with my skin for a while and she was non-judgemental and helped me to understand what I should be using to help with my issues. I can’t say enough great things about my experience and the team at Carrie’l! I recommend it to everyone I can and I’m looking forward to my next appointment already!

First of all I phoned in to get a massage for my wife ! The lady was super nice Cindy ... Can't remember the name ! She informed me that she could take my wife at 645 for a relaxation massage. The cost was 95 so I told her ok. We arrived at 630 and I went to the front desk to pay and another lady told me 150 so I told her that it was only for 60 min she was very rude and didn't care much about it! So she gave me the pin pad for payment it said 110 so I paid it! I ask her it was not supposed to be 95? She said no with taxes its 110 I said really ? she didn't seem interested to be there and care for me ! I finally told them to cancel the appointment and give me back my money! Will never go back there ! Stay away !

Worst service ever! Was told when I asked if my spa person was running on time that she was. I then waited over 20min for my appointment and was still not seen. No one even checked on me once. When I approached the front spa staff to tell them I was leaving because I waited over 20min, they didn't seem to care. Poor, poor customer service! This isn't the first time I've had to wait over 20min for an appointment either (so I gave them a few more chances because let's face it, we all run behind sometimes...). The staff who was performing my appointment is also the spa manager! How does she think it is ok to have customers wait 20min later than their booked time for an appointment?! My appointment would have only been 20min! 2 weeks ago when I came to see her for a different service she proceeded to stand there at the desk with the previous customer and talk for 5-10 min while I was sitting there waiting (and she was already 10min late!) I have been a customer at carriel for 10+years and it's really unfortunate to be treated with such bad service. I will absolutely NEVER be returning to this spa and unless you have all the time in the world to waste in your day, I strongly suggest you avoid this spa.

Phoned today to book appointments for my children and myself, was extremly disappointed with the customer service over the phone. The receptionist didn't even seem like she was listening to me, kept cutting me off and when I was trying to speak about setting up a consult and appointments for my entire family she then cut me off mid sentence to put me on hold. Obviously my business isn't welcomed or needed, we will be going with a different company. The lack of response shows how willing the company is to remedy this.

They provide great friendly service, but recently i had a wax done before my trip.. 2 days later it looked like i had never gone.. plus ingrown hair. Would not recommend this place.

The first time I came here, I was very impressed with the way I was treated by the esthetician, Aleksandra. She recommended products for my skin and gave me a treatment. I found her to be very knowledgeable and kind. I went online to order the products she recommended as I could not make it into the store. I tried three times, and the website kept saying it could not proceed with my order due to fraud control. I called the salon and explained my issue, and I was told that it wasn't working because I was inputting something wrong. I assured her I entered everything right and she still kept blaming me for entering my information incorrectly. I went over everything AGAIN and it was 100% accurate, and still wouldn't let me check out. She provided me with no solutions except said I could come to the store. I was buying online in the first place because I couldn't come to the store? She also said that this has happened to other people before (like hello?! if it has happened to other people then it is an issue on your end!) But she did say theirs was resolved so "it must be me" Anyways, due to how rude I found her to be, I purchased the products ($200 worth) through another retailer. It really is as shame to have front end staff that are like this, because I am sure this is an awesome place with great hairdressers, but many people won't experience that due to the way they are treated initially.

I went there to spend a couple of Groupons (for a haircut and style, and for a facial massage). The massage was *amazing* - you really get top quality spa treatment here. The haircut and style was also well done. The weave she did for me looks very nice. All hair treatments include a light touch of makeup too, which is extra nice. Their prices are on the high end, and the narrow-ish, somewhat steep stairs up and down might be an issue for some, but their comprehensive range of treatments for hair and body, and the high quality service you receive, are well worth it. (And if money is an issue, they do issue Groupons now and then).

Great place for a relaxing facial! Bought a Groupon to get a facial with microdermabrasion. My esthetician really took her time with me and listened to the concerns I had about my skin. I never felt rushed or like I was being given the express service because I purchased through Groupon, which unfortunately has happened before at other places. She recommended a really nice cleanser for me in my price range at the end of my services, which I am now obsessed with using!

They were able to accommodate me last minute for an eyebrow wax and haircut. The price was extremely reasonable and both services were perfect. My favorite (and cheapest) haircut in quite a while! I'll definitely be back here to see Emma and Angelique! They said they have a liquor license in the new year so I'll try out a massage too and make an afternoon of my next visit.

Comfortable, soothing, professional, pampering, easily accessible, free parking, open late some nights...what's not to like? I can't say enough about how good the massage was and how comfortable the room was.
