Do not send your children here. I was there november and some of december of 2019. Doctors completely ignored medical concerns. I was sick for days coughing and barely breathing had a temp of 104 and when my mom came to visit me she tried to tell them i wasn’t well. Took them forever to listen to her she had to fight for me to be looked at. I was finally taken to children’s hospital when they heard i wasn’t breathing right. Diagnosed with phnemonia. Put on meds to stable my temperature... if my fever got any higher brain damage was on the line. And besides that there were no therapists just a phyciatrist who did nothing and put me on many many meds (about 16) I WAS ONLY 11! it was a dirty facility, they kept wanted to sedate kids and would restrain kids on the daily basis in front of the other children which is traumatizing itself. My mom fought and fought to get me out of there and if my mom hadn’t come to see me and argue about me obviously not being okay i’m not sure i would’ve been okay because i have no clue how far they would’ve let it go on. I was also introduced to self harm here... made my mental health worse there are many more places that are better please PLEASE consider your options.

Been struggling with mental health and suicidal thoughts and the only person in there who really helped me was this one nurse, and I only know her first name. We connected more than I did with anyone else in there and she really really helped me. I just want to be able to talk to her again even if it’s one last time but it’s against hippa laws! If there is anyone that could help me maybe get her one last message or just to get in touch? She was awesome! But I don’t want to get her in trouble so I don’t know what to do! Thank you, I also had the same experience as a lot of people on here and didn’t see the reason of being in there besides all of the amazing nurses and the cool patients made it better too.

Went in September 2020 to the adolescent section, it was very welcoming and all the other teens (at the time) seemed to have no problems in here (other than mental health of course). The groups were good to take your mind off of the negative, and to just live in the moment with the other kids, you weren't forced to do activities you don't want to, food was good (way better than school food), staff was (mostly) nice just a little were cranky, Would definitely go back if necessary:)

BryLin Hospital - Mental Health Service

Compassionate inpatient mental health care for all ages. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or having thoughts of suicide, BryLin can help! Wonderful programming options: women's & men's programming, dual diagnosis treatment, alternative therapies like yoga, massage, drumming, and pet therapy and much more.

I suffer from PTSD and Severe Anxiety for over 48 years. Severe traumatic experiences as a child really affected my ability to grow into an adult who had any self worth or even a sliver of confidence.Well I have been in and out of numerous mental health facilities but Brylin is by far the most helpful in this area! Now ,yes, sometimes you have a staff member that is difficult but the majority are PHENOMENAL! The ECT Department are the ABSOLUTE BEST in the country! Dr. Gupta and the ECT staff have saved my life !! I am forever grateful and my family are thankful beyond measure for what they have done for me. Do yourself a favor and call Brylin and listen to the professionals just this once.....THEY WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. They did mine.

Nurse disappears after only a few minutes of talking to "find an interpreter" she doesn't return and another nurse comes and leaves to find another "interpreter" ends up recycling paper instead.

Dont bring your children here

I have been to three different psychiatric hospitals in WNY several times and Brylin is by far the best one. The doctors and nurses are amazing the hospital is clean and instead of laying in bed or sitting in front of a TV all day they have groups like meditation art therapy pet therapy and other things that teach you how to manage your mental health issues. They also offer ECT therapy which is helping me way more than taking medicine alone. I am truly grateful for Brylin and the people who work there they really have helped me get my life back.

Does more harm then good. They way they treat their patients is horrible with the uncomfortable environment.

Eliana Soleil

Marie McHarris

Kassidy Gillingham

Very social and very friendly environment, they have a wide selection of food and it is usually good quality. The staff is usually really nice and helpful and they have a variety of activities to do usually involving art.

Sophia Willard

Been calling every day for the last four days and they continuously say they have no beds available. I have called multiple times each day and it never changes. They're apparently more of an idea of a hospital than an actual one

Jennifer Lengyel

I stayed at brylin ( the adult section) for one week and it helped a huge deal. Everyday there was a schedule you could CHOOSE to follow. There was an exercise class after breakfast, art therapy, group therapy and games like bingo. Ofcoarse there are gonna be unpleasant things, but I felt the good outweighed the bad. If I need that level of help, I will go to brylin again.

My daughter has major depressive disorder and was receiving ECT treatments at ECMC. Due to covid, she was unable to continue outpatient treatments there and we switched to BryLin Hospital. Dr. Gupta and the staff at BryLin have been extremely kind and helpful to both of us in treating her depression. This disease can be very challenging and having the support provided by BryLin Hospital has helped greatly.

disgusting. the place itself looks very run down ,i was there for 18 days, all they do is sit you in front of a TV and drug you up. the groups don't help at all. none of the employees put any effort into they're job most of them are very selfish, they don't treat you like you're a human being...they tell you all these good things when ur being admitted but its nothing like what they say. this place needs LOTS of improvement!

These monsters almost killed my cousin. She had a brain infection that they ignored and instead pumped her full of anti-psychotics and sedatives. Then they refused to release her when her mother demanded to take her someplace else for a second opinion. After legal threats, they released her. We took her to a hospital where they discovered the insanely high amount of drugs they shot her up with. It took 3 blood transfusions to clean her up, but the anti-biotics worked immediately. The swelling in her brain finally stopped and she was mostly back to normal. For the love of all things Holy, DO NOT go to BryLin. This facility is truly evil, the staff are sadists, and the machine, as a whole, exists only to extort money out of families trying to get help for their sick loved ones.

Anonymous N/A

No communication. Sent message and received no response. Sent an anonymous message via the website merely to inquire on the procedure in receiving help for major depression. It's been an ongoing issue and I've finally decided to seek treatment. Apparently BryLin does not want to help,.

Dorothea Mixon

Great place to help people in need

Michael Long

Stuff is helpful. Right amount of patients to rooms. Lots of different opportunities to improve your mental health. As with any in the area, unfortunatly the amount of work space and staff is limited, causing for waits for admission at times.

Jules Princess

I was in there for a week recently. Everyone truly cares about you and willing to help you with any problems you have.

Lauren W

Disclosed private medical information without permission, violating HIPAA laws.

Michelle Maess

I stayed there when I had a manic episode. It is a very special place-I would go back if needed.

Needed THEREPEUTIC Inpatient treatment desperately, 2.6 out of 5 rating and FRIGHTENING staff reviews scared me away.

This place is absolutely life draining;some of the staff are ok however if you value feeling like a respected human being this isn't the place for you.

I’ve been to Brylin three times in the adolescent unit. Once in January 2018, again in March and June of that year. All three times were awful. The third time, since they knew I was autistic and had meltdowns, they drugged me every six hours on a medication with a 24 half life. Dr. Martin is horrible and his office REEKS of bad coffee! He sees everyone for five minutes and leaves. Do. Not. Go. To. Brylin. They don’t take you outside, they don’t let you have any privacy. It is hell on earth there.

Enya Teed

I was in a very bad place when I went to brylin It got me to a better place and I feel like I can express myself better now I would go back if I needed it

BryLin Hospital Top Notch in Buffalo This inpatient Mental Health facility is the best in Buffalo. They have Groups you're not just sitting around all day watching the clock slowly tick tock. And staff is always available and courteous.

Beth Rosner-Kew

My family member was admitted to the Elmwood facility twice. While there were limits placed on her during her stay, she left each time with hope at having had much care. The staff is professional and courteous. The facilities are clean. The care is unparalleled.

Terrible facility. Staff is very rude and careless towards a patient’s needs. Some of the staff actually show a respectful character and have a much different perspective than the ones that don’t like to help and only care about their salary. I would recommend a different place if you’re trying to work on a more positive mental state. Throughout the 9 days I was kept there, the only thing I learned is that I am the only person who can help myself.

This place made me hate the doctors, dentist, ortho... etc. this place made me fear for my life I now am afraid of everyone around me. You gave me ptsd and trauma. I’ll be better off helping myself next time. Thank you.

DepressionBlur

I was there for about two weeks and I was 10, I found it very helpful and yea it was amazing.

Swift Archon

Do NOT bring your kids here. Maybe it's changed in the years since I've been there but anyway I had a really bad experience as a kid in this hospital and ever since the incident happened, I have never went into a hospital willingly unless medically necessary. And ever since my experience, well shall I say that I've been living in a constant nightmare.

Ginny Averill

My husband had two telehealth meetings with someone. She called and left him a message and my husband called her back three times on three different days and got a recorded message every time. He left a message to call him back each time he called. No one ever returned his call.

Alice McCaferty

As a former tech I’m going to let you know right now that BryLin false advertises their services. There are no pottery classes, the green space is a public park that is no longer used due children finding needles in the past. There is black mold all over the children’s lounge... it’s been a serious problem for years and it’s been fixed, only hidden. There’s asbestos in the walls and ceilings all over the hospital. Holes in walls, cockroaches, and rats also have been a problem recently. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.

My son was an inpatient for 2 weeks back in December 2019. After months of behavioral issues with Lyme disease, his symptoms got so severe he had to be hospitalized. We live three hours away. The staff was very gracious and kind to him and us. I felt that we worked together as a team. Dr. Martin was amazing. He was willing to listen and learn from us. We appreciate everything this facility did to help with his recovery.

Tommy LaVean

This is the best mental health inpatient facility in WNY hands down.

Bon Voyage

Best hospital I've ever had to stay at, even with my ptsd around psychiatric hospitals.

Alex Wolfburgh

COMPLETELY disorganised staff from reception to medical staff. If you’ve never experienced discrimination, you should give this poor excuse for a hospital a whirl.

Haley Read

Would give this place no stars if possible. One of the worst experiences of my life was being here. On the night I was admitted, staff refused to give me a medicine that I was on before bed, and I had to fight and argue with them at the nurses desk for them to give me an ALREADY prescribed medicine from my psychiatrist. My room was right next to the nurses station, where through the night the nurses talked badly about patients and their medical history without any regard for HIPAA laws and who may be able to overhear the conversation. I think the real kicker was the girl I roomed with who they COMPLETELY ignored non-psychiatric medical complaints from - she spent TWO whole days laying in her bed crying and writhing with stomach pains - before they finally decided she "wasn't faking" and to transfer her to the actual hospital. There is an extreme lack of control over patients - basically as long as nobody is physically harming anyone else staff turns a blind eye to it. There was a male and female patient who would constantly argue and scream and yell at each other over each others antics, and staff would let it carry on. It was far from an environment needed to deal with my issues at the time. Additionally, ECT is very practiced here, and was even brought up as a suggestion for my treatment recommendations, even though I had been responding to medication. It's almost as it's pushed on patients by making patients believe that "well, nothing else has worked so this is our only option left". And once you complete the ECT treatment, they send you back up to the floor we were on where these patients were completely out of it, as in not remembering their names, where they were, if they had kids, etc. I remember sitting with another patient after her treatment because she was SO disorientated and out of it and they just left her sitting by herself in a chair in the hallway. I was the one who get her a juice and snack and helped comfort her while the staff could care less.

My daughter was an inpatient there for 3 weeks in February. While she was there we didn't have many issues aside from never speaking to a social worker and only speaking to the doctor (Christopher Martin who is a horrendous "provider") once after I called him several times. My daughter has been discharged for almost a month and was close to running out of her meds. Because of COVID restrictions her med management appointment has not happened yet, and she had 3 days of meds left. I called to refill them and was told Dr. Martin refused to fill it because she is not under his care anymore. While I understand that, I thought he would have the decency to give her a small supply until she was seen by med management through her counselor. Well I was wrong. Not only did he refuse myself, the pharmacy, and her pediatricians request, I was belittled by his front desk staff and spoken to like a child being scolded. After spending HOURS trying to figure out how I was going to get my SUICIDAL CHILD her meds, I called Brylin to see if they had any ideas. When I called and spoke to one of the adolescent floor staff, she told me three times that I "should have called sooner" for her refills. The absolute lack of empathy coming from someone that takes care of children with mental health needs was disgusting. At the end of the day my daughter has no meds come Monday, no one will help me, and I was made to feel like everything was my fault. Real nice way to treat people who are obviously going through a very difficult time in their lives.

Chris Zurawski

On October 30th of 2019 I called said I was suicidal they told me they were busy to go somewhere else an hour later I was holding a gun to my head behind a building the police found me and sent me to ECMC which was a life savor. Never again will I call

Tanisha Brooks

Very happy I called before i took my child here. I was just informed by the lady on the phone that the doctor isn't in and she first know when he'll be in so i asked if the doctor works on Wednesdays and she said she doesnt know they never know when the doctors are coming in... sounds as bad as ECMC

John Emmerling

Don’t go here unless you are suicidal. Because all they will be doing is looking into your room every five minutes even in the middle of the night to make sure you are safe. It seems like all you do is lay in bed or go to optional group meetings. Barely any individualized attention that actually helps mental issues

Jennifer Roche

This place is horrible in mental health. My daughter went there for treatment and its the worst place for any child. My daughter would call every night and tell me how bad this place is. The mental health dr miller is the worst i have ever seen. This guy should not have a licence to practice medicine. Every time i try to get answers they try calling cps. I am totally on bed rest due to a heart condition and can not travel for visits. I made the doctor and staff aware of this when she started treatment. I do care about my daughters health and treatment. I talk to her multiple times a day and staff but is being targeted because of my health. Filing a law suit and letting. The public know. Please dont let your child be mistreated. I know you want whats best for your child. Say no to this place. I had to give one star but really they deserve no stars Thanks

jameera lyn

terrible, all they care about is drugging you up so you stay longer. the place is not safe when i stayed there there was 3 fights within 2 days absolutely terrible

PJ Gabbey

After going through 8 long months of the worst depression you can imagine, my mother started outpatient ECT treatments with Dr. Gupta. After her very first treatment she started feeling better and each consecutive treatment since has left her feeling amazing and able to function better than she was prior to these last 8 months. I cannot thank Dr. Gupta and the amazing ECT staff at Brylin enough for bringing my mother back to a life she wants to live. Everyone we've been in contact with at Brylin has been nothing but kind and supportive and we highly recommend this facility.

Lizz Fiorella

Terrible and borderline inhumane treatment. Went here to be linked with services, and they informed me i was not allowed to walk out as i had walked in the front doors. I was informed by a very uncouth nurse in admissions i would either sign myself in voluntarily or i would be admitted anyways. So i signed myself in knowing my right to get discharged in 72 hrs of written notice. I did so as soon as possible. The first thing they did was ask me to strip down in a small bathroom on front of two strangers not considering any trauma or backround. I politely refused and was givven tear away hospital gowns with snap buttons to wear that came up to mid thigh in a co ed unit. If i sat down my bare skin touched public chairs. ALSO i was informed i would have to be followed everywhere, stuck in a room with two geriatric patients (one also being followed for geriatric need) not even 5 feet away from a smelly half bath. Thats 5 people in a 2 person room overnight. I refused to give blood and vitals, which i know is within my rights as a patient, and a staff member began to hold me down as i was laying in bed, yell at me, and tell me i was being 'combative'. How does laying in bed even begin to be combative? After they got a nurse and confirmed i was indeed within my rights, the staff member threw my arm down that she was restraining illegally and rolled her eyes and stormed out. Very professional. The last thing is that the brand new medical Dr, a female doctor S, discontinued my antibiotic for a kidney infection that i was prescribed and brought in (it was in my purse). Because of this medical error from a medical dr, i wasnt allowed to take my antibiotic and missed three doses; nursing staff was at a loss as to why a medical dr would stop an antibiotic before finishing treatment. Upon finally being discharged upon legal requirements, they lost the only clothing i came in with, because they only have 2 spaces for storage in the 3 patient room. The staff must have put the clothing i wasnt allowed to wear in a random closet and it got mixed up with another patients things. This hospital is laughable if it wasnt for depravity of basic rights. When i asked for a hospital patient advocate, no staff member even knew what i was talking about, and told me to talk with my social worker, whom also didnt know what i was talking about.

Marilyn Strong

My father was a patient here. Never able to get their act together and send over paperwork to the disability company after months. Still fighting to get that paperwork even though he is no longer with us. Worst service. Go to ecmc if you need care, never brylin. For a place that is supposed to help, they sure don't do much of that.

Casey

Horrible facility. You will be belittled, and if you need urgent help no one will care to do anything for you. Instead of talking to you like a person they will push drugs on you and treat you like garbage for the entire stay.
