If you’re getting blood work done, this is the place to go. Parking is in the back. I can’t speak on emergency treatment, however.

i've gone here multiple times and it is the worst. the hospital has no regard for the patients. Once i had to get bloodwork done (and because i'm deathly afraid of needles) i didn't want to do it, so the doctor threatened me that "if i didn't she'd call security and hold me down. TO GET BLOODWORK. 0/10 i've never been more unhappy.

Haven't been here but have been told about the horror stories...if I were to have a breakdown, wouldn't go there, ever.

Eleanor Adams

Don’t go here if you’re looking for help, you’ll leave worse off

Meli Groza

They're very nice. They took good care of me when I was there.

Just for the PAU - psychiatric assessment unit. Very friendly, took good time to talk to us. Separeately at first, then together - makes sense. Also kind people working area offering lots. Never been in a hospital area like this before, won't be nervous about it in future.

This hospital is filthy, one of the nurses droped pills on the flooor and continued to try to give them to my nanny, the nurses also take ages to get to patients rooms and they don’t care. The only good people who work there are the ot and the pt they are actually doing there job correctly and right. Nurses take such a long time getting to patients rooms but as soon as they get to the patients they rush and are so fast they sometimes hurt there patients, and act all grumpy because they were called down to there room. The doctors not any better they lie and don’t take time to be with patients and help them. If anybody does ever haft to be in this hospital I hope you the best...

Sad to see so many bad reviews. I used to work here in the late 80s and the place actually had a good reputation.

The online pictures of the Waterford Hospital are not realistic. It looks so pretty outside on these pictures. But you have to be in there as a patient to see that the hospital leaves much to be desired. I have been there on and off for almost 20 years as a visitor. It has always seemed to me to be more of a prison environment than that of a hospital. It offers little for patient care and the environment will make a person sick if he is not sick already. Wasn't this hospital built in 1855? Sick people -especially those that are mentally ill- need to be treated with patience, gentleness, and loving care because of the terrible things that go through their minds. The patients sometimes don't know what is happening mentally within and without. All nursing staff should be caring and patient, and most of them are and should be commended, but some may have seen too much and their patience has worn thin. Any one of us could wind up in the Waterford. We should be doing more for these people that are in so much pain. They should not be in a place like that! I will never pretend to know what our governments do with our tax dollars, but I can assure you that they are not spent on the Waterford hospital or the care that mentally ill patients receive. I also believe that the doctors who treat the patients should have more input when it comes to governmental or hospital policies and procedures, for they see it all and understand the pain that these lonely people go through. For now I pray that God will help our children for our governments will not!

Have been treated rudely by security whenever I go to the Patient Assessment Unit - I'm not rude yet they are rude to me. It has been so bad that I dropped off a letter today detailing the lack of respect I have felt whenever I have gone there looking for help. Guess what happened when I dropped off the letter? A security guard asked what the letter was for and I told him. I then left. That security guard then chased me (I started running since I don't trust the security guards at this hospital). I slowed down and he grabbed my arm. I told him to let go and he snapped that he was going to call the police. I responded and asked if he was going to call the police because all I said in my letter was that I was tired of being treated with such disrespect by security guards at this hospital - I once had another security guard stand at the other side of the door that goes into the main part of the Patient Assessment Unit mouth the word "leave" to me! I have never once been rude to any of the staff there and if someone found that I was rude, they should tell me. I guess because I have certain challenges that are not "physical" or "drug addiction" (I have a mental disability) I will be scorned upon and told to leave when I come looking for help - especially when I feel suicidal! This is one hospital that definitely does not care. And the security guard that chased me let me go after I asked him if he was going to call the police because all I said in my letter was that I was tired of being treated with such disrespect by the people that work here - it seems that do not care about me at all. He didn't say anything else, and when I was far enough away from him, I called the police myself and told them what happened. I was told that they would not come after me for that and gave me the phone number to the complaints line - I let them know that I have called before but never heard back and it seemed like nothing changed the next time I had to deal with a person I put in a complaint about. I thanked the police officer for the information anyway and let the police officer know that she cared more about me then those at the Waterford Hospital, which is a place I will never go to again because I have had so many bad experiences. By the way, you can remove this review but what happened will still spread by word of mouth; also there are reviews on Facebook that already show there isn't much care here and the people that come to the Patient Assessment Unit are, for the most part, treated like dirt.

Had to go there a good few times. Many of the doctors are rude and/or don't know what they're doing. I've genuinely questioned if many of them are qualified.

If my family or myself need bloodwork done, this is only place we go. The staff there is very good at their job, they are patient with people who have difficult veins to work with and nice to chat to while they do their job. My daughter had a severe fear of needles and it was a very nice nurse in there who helped her overcome that fear. I am unable to find anything negative to say about them. I like the the place and their staff. I cannot comment on the in patient situation as I have never had to be admitted there myself.

Kathy Snow

Horrible experience. The nurses and doctors don't care about the patients, at all.

Mark Evans

Fast with getting blood work done

Jacob Ness

Rude doctors and nurses. You'll probably leave feeling worse than before you went there.

My daughter has been in and out of the mental health system for the past 10 years and has attempted taking her life 4 times. In those years she was never diagnosed but was put on an antidepressant and a sleeping pill to stop nightmares from an attack that happened rather than help her work through it. My daughter told the psychiatrist the antidepressant wasn’t working but the psychiatrist wouldn’t change it and sent her home after 3 months in hospital still on the wrong meds which had her getting worse by the day. She recently attempted suicide again and this time got a diagnoses of BPD, Anorexia/bulimia and substance abuse issues along with depression, anxiety and signs of PTSD while at the health sciences. During her stay there she was able to see her old physiologist at the Waterford who instead of treating her for the disorder’s a Dr. outside of the Waterford gave he decided to tell my daughter that he don’t think that is what’s wrong with her which has put her in another downward spiral and has her thinking that it’s just her being stupid rather than the BPD and has us fearing what she will do next. She finally had a reason for what’s been happening to her all these years and was starting to crawl out of the hole she’s been in since last winter only to fall back in because of him. The Dr. wanted more testing done but instead of the psychiatrist on staff at the health sciences doing anything he told her to speak to the physiologist at the Waterford instead of checking her for himself has did the psychiatrist at the Waterford when my daughter asked to be tested for other issues that are genetic in the family. If a psychiatrist can’t be bother to treat you and a physiologist can’t follow a patient’s chart and treat them for what they have been diagnosed with they shouldn’t be allowed to work in the mental health system. We will be putting in a formal complaint against these people and are currently trying to find new Drs for her which isn’t an easy thing to get unless admit yourself in to the hospital or hurt yourself to the point where someone has to listen. This place deserves no stars but you can't put up a review unless you rate them with a star

My experience here was absolutely traumatizing. After being told to visit if needed after attending a doorways session I decided to be proactive in getting mental help. I proceeded to go to the main entrance. I couldn't see anyone there so I aimlessly walked the halls and got to the third floor before finding someone to ask for directions for some information. The nurse I encountered was very nice and told me I needed to take a different entrance. That was fine so I went to the other entrance and immediately felt trapped the doors locked behind me and there were security guards at the door. I asked the receptionist if I could get some basic information. She immediately said she needed to take my purse and that I needed to register. I said no that's fine as i was weirded out by the whole situation and i was forced to register and see a nurse. Once I went in to the triage section another set of doors locked behind me. She checked my temperature and blood pressure. I then asked "can I leave?" I had to ask this question THREE times before I finally was discharged. This experience has negatively impacted my mental health journey and I am so traumatized by the whole situation. Please do better Newfoundland in providing mental health services. :(

I was having a very bad episode so I asked my friend to drive me to the hospital. It was alright at first and the nurse was very nice. I waited for a very very long time and I felt better so I wanted to leave. They literally would not let me leave. The security guard was incredibly mean and the other nurse just didnt care. I wanted to go because I felt better and they wouldn't let me. I actually started to have a panic attack because I was trapped. Th doctor finally after 3 more hours let me leave. They did absolutely nothing to help and I left feeling ten times worse then when I arrived. This place is a joke.

Best place in St. Johns to get bloodwork done. Due to my health issues I have to get BW done every 2 weeks. You are in and out in 10 min 15 tops and the staff are awesome.

Amanda Edgett

Horrible experience, the environment was horrible for anyone having psychosis. Hammering would confuse patients more. Male patients would go into rooms of female patients while they slept despite security sitting outside the ladies ward. Staff where horrible did not treat patients well, a nurse threw a lady who was elderly in seclusion for 16 hours with no bathroom she stated she pee in 3 of the 4 corners of the room. Patients felt like animals in a cage, staff did not assist patient with meals as in delivering food to rooms. I received a pressure ulcer to my right arm and I am a young adult from over perscribed medications. Medical condition was never treated, was transfered to another hospital for sepsis. One good thing came out of it and now I am an intense advocacy for human rights and studying Medicine and Law to hopefully change things in mental health no matter how much debt I go into.

Horrible waiting times even when the place is empty, the nurses are rude and useless and treat you as if you're wasting their time and they're too good to help you. One of the nurses literally rolled her eyes at me while I was having a mental breakdown. Never got any help from there the many times I've went in the past month, all they offer is counseling that doesn't work for me personally or to go see my family doctor, never got any actual advice.

I cannot stress this enough: do not listen to the people giving this disgusting Dominion era facility 5 stars
