Defund "Dr" Jay. No idea how the counsellors could work with this "man"

Craig Ellenwood

Went seeking help for anxiety and depression. Dr. Jay was no help. Acted like I was a med seeker and only cared about if I use cannabis or not. I left with worse depression and anxiety than I arrived with. Horrible experience.

Dr. Jay wasn't the most pleasant guy. Waited 6 months for this appointment and I was immediately given a referral to another practice, makes me wonder why he needed me to drive in and sit on his couch when he was making a decision based on my intake forms that I filled out. Frustrating that this is what i was waiting for. He seemed to really fixate on whether i drink or use drugs which I found odd. I think that I would be more successful and empathetic at what he does than him and I have extreme anxiety and ADHD. **Update** i got a call from the referral he sent me to and there is another year and a half wait list. Also they told me that it is impossible after a 45 min appointment for someone to diagnose me with a personality disorder. This guy seems like a charlotton.. I do NOT recommend.

The counsellors are generally very good and courteous. However the psychiatrist Dr. Jay is hopelessly unprofessional: if you want to experience psychological torture and verbal abuse instead of medical treatment, then consult him. He utterly refuses to provide proper diagnosis and treatment for anything, and I ended up in the hospital twice for multiple weeks for severe psychiatric illnesses where the hospital doctors had to treat everything. I unfortunately endured this torture for over a year from him. The point when it hit me that Dr. Jay is the problem was after my second hospitalization, when he again refused to diagnose and treat anything. When I asked him why I have twice ended up in the hospital with serious psychiatric illness if his supposed "treatment" was taking care of things, instead of giving an answer he hurled verbal abuse at me for asking questions. You can get a referral from your family doctor for private psychiatrists and MSP covers everything.

Everyone here is fine except the psychiatrist Dr. Jay (?). Every time I see him, I feel as though he has no empathy for patients. I was called today at 9am for an appointment that was supposed to be for the next day at 4pm, then berated me for not picking up my medication yet when I have no idea where the prescription was sent to. I was then lectured by him about how it was my responsibility to go pick up a physical copy in my free time (which I told him I quite literally don't have being a full time student working full time), and that he "doesn't chase patients". Who says that to someone struggling with mental health and basic tasks already?? The people who run the DBT group here are fantastic but please avoid seeing the psychiatrist at any cost.

Dr Jay is as helpful as web MD with half the compassion. What ever drove this man into his profession was not the wish to help people.

Dr. Jay was polite and very to the point, as we were going through my life events he talked over me a couple times but I said that I was starting to feel a bit upset that I might not be being heard and he stopped and said "okay tell me what you want to say" and let me go off and made sure to ask if I had any more questions or if there was anything else I wanted from the meeting at the end. He's a psychiatrist, not a counsellor so his job is to look for treatment options. He set me up for a new prescription... I don't understand all the comments critisizing him for pushing pills when that's pretty much what you're going to a psychiatrist for.

Dr. jay is horrible. Do not meet him. Hes rude, pushes life long pill popping, interrupting, bad manners. Late or doesn't show for scheduled meetings stay away I'll never go back if I can help it.

The workers are excellent, Psychiatrist not so much.

Seen an intake worker about 3 weeks ago and she sent me to see Dr Jay. How this guy still has a license is beyond me. I've never felt so little and insignificant in my life. Totally unprofessional to be treating people with mental illness that way. Update August 8th: I was told by the intake worker that I was going to be able to talk to a counselor during my intake. I received a call on August 3rd saying that they were going to close my account based on Dr. Jay's recommendation. I was told by my family doctor today that if I feel helpless and hopeless for me to go into the hospital which will be the equivalent of flipping Delta Mental Health off. It's pretty bad that you need to go into the hospital to get the help you need.

I met Dr. Jay, and it was the worse day of my life. He had no empathy or listened to my concerns. He was also very rude to me, and I felt, I wasn't treated like a human being. All he wanted to do, was to subscribe pills to me, and get me out of there. I found out on the internet that you are entitled to a "Second Opinion from another doctor" It is "your right" to a second medical opinion. I got another psychiatrist (Thank God), for now I am treated as a first class citizen. FYI, this psychiatrist is not in Delta, but in Surrey, and you can do this going through your case worker. Dr. Jay should be banned from his profession with the Fraser Health because of how badly he treats people.

The counsellors and group meetings were great, but Dr. Jay (the psychiatrist) has got to be the worst doctor I have ever met in my entire life. When I was at my worst he showed no sympathy, was always so rude to me and my mother. He would even harass me. One time he even told me and my mom “I don’t know what you two are up to”, as if we were coming up with a scheme. When I was at my worst with my OCD and anxiety, I had problems with needing to hear things being repeated and one time when I asked if he could repeat something for me he responded saying “you should leave now”. I am 100% better now thanks to another psychiatrist who took over for Dr. Jay while he was gone on vacation. I will never forget the way Dr. Jay treated me.

The mediators for the therapy groups are great but unfortunately that is the only thing great about this place. Dr Jay had me leaving his office feeling confused, upset and verbally abused. I have never had such a horrible experience had with a psychiatrist in my life by far. Incredibly rude and unprofessional, you will get no help with him, only more trauma. Joyce the intake worker walks on eggshells when speaking to myself and I'm sure others of north delta mental health as well. She exhibits an impatience and lack of understanding or willingness to communicate effectively with members of the facility. She is far too old to be involved in mental health anymore, please put someone younger, more positive and behaves like he or she actually enjoys being there helping patients. To me it seems to me she is just riding out that nice Fraser Health pension till she's 65. Stay far away from this place.

I went to north delta mental health for treatment and I was given dr Jay. He is the worst doctor to have. He is rude, absolutely no manners, no empathy, and no sympathy. Stay away if you can. All he wants to do is keep his patients drugged up. “Stay away from this doctor” like the previous reviewer said is so true. He deserves zero star review.

Susan Smith

Dr Jay should be banned from his profession. He is a bad doctor that does not care for his patients. He had no manners and doesn’t care for your well being. Dr Jay is a pill pusher, I was treated like a criminal.

Kyllini Pleaides

Dr. Jay is too professional in the sense where he only understands and wants to understand humans based on what he thinks he knows about them from a textbook. This personal knowledge is likely combined with his own personal experiences and the things he's personally learned that he's also decided to deem as "knowledge". It, especially, does not help when this apparent knowledge is solidified by only taking into consideration his OWN perspective of the world. The reason why this is crippling is not something I'll bother to explain here. It is, however, written clearly on his face. This, though, may not be clear to others until they understand how much more valuable, by a tenfold, the help you can provide directly toward yourself is over the help anyone else can provide you. What I'm trying to advocate for isn't the concept that you cannot rely on others as knowledge and perspective points you can trust. Instead, I'm referencing the fact that you will not get better until you genuinely want to. In short, Dr. Jay does not have enough of an idea how to handle what is presented on the plates that are given to him. However, you likely won't see this if you're still at the stage where you are begging for help, any kind of help, as long as it's not your own. On the other hand, others in the office don't seem to have much discretion; observing how (from the small perspective of one person - a.k.a. me) they seemed overly interested in what was happening even if they were fully aware of the fact that they were (and still are) in no position to provide anything more valuable than their physical presence in what was apparently a problem. This said problem was caused by a 5'1 90lb teenager who was doing nothing but attempting to have her parent walk with her out of their office. All this being said, I have a high regard of respect for the intake nurse I spoke to during the first appointment. I'd recommend Jordan (although I cannot say I accurately remember if this was the correct name or spelling) as someone valuable to speak with. Though this is only from my own personal perspective, I respect the intuition he has to pull information from a situation where he is given nothing but an objective perspective of someone physically and vocally. I respect not only the intuition he has to process an extremely valuable amount from almost nothing, but also his ability to understand it in his own mind to the point where he can rearrange it and relay it in a fashion which will also make sense in the mind of someone whose perspective is objective from his.

Dr Jay is the worst doctor i've ever seen in my entire life, ruined my trust in the mental health system.

Mike Milton

Had an appointment with Dr Jay he seemed more interested in my cannabis use (recently quit) and that my anxiety was only because of that. Sounded angry and uninterested in what I had to say. Also didnt show up for ZOOM meeting called me about 20 mins late. Could barely hear or understand what he was saying. Had a PANIC ATTACK within hours of talking to him. I was feeling positive about the meeting but left me feeling hopeless and as if no medical professional would care or take me seriously. Counselor seemed friendly and helpful but Dr Jay only seems interested in closing my file. Dr. Jay please find a new profession you berk

Everyone was nice except dr jay, He is the worse doctor a mental patient can ever see, he looks as if he doesnt care about you, or even his work, he is rude, disrespectful even with my two parents already. I dont even know why he is still working or have a license, I got worse since i talk to him, I honestly didnt tell to my General doctor and other phsy because I was afraid nobody will believe me, esp when im in my state of mind. It made me feel so belittle that it got tru my head that i stop going to my session because i felt theres no use he will just write it off and nothing will change, he will be the one in charge and i have nothing to do. So if you come to this clinic please do avoid dr jay he is the worse! If you dont believe everyone is only referring him meaning he is the worse of its kind

Dr Haque has been so so helpful. He trusted me to start Vivance for my adhd and it changed my world. School has become possible and my overall happiness is 3x better. I have smoked so much weed in my life and with Vivance I dont even need it anymore. Dr Jay and I clashed since day one but I wish him well. Advice dealing with him is to be honest and if you are using substances just try very hard to make him understand WHY you do it. If you read this Dr. Jay I'm sorry for my actions that made the relationship not work. And thank you for caring about my mother. Delta mental health was incredibly patient with me early on in my adult life. Without them I might not be here. Dr. Jay is a good man that wants to help. He helped me greatly. The social workers are great. I'm lucky to have had all of them
