I would give it a zero if I could. The place is a joke! Wouldn't send my worst enemy there. If you are looking for real help, go anywhere but here!

Our daughter really needed Prairie Saint John;s when no one else wouldn't listen or help us Prairie did!!!!!! The next stay again was for an unpleasant thing with same daughter. The care was not as good as the first time but really needed. I am not giving the prairie Saint Johns five starts because it just was not as professional but yet was still good. I think insurance and health care are the main causes not staff.

Wasn’t inpatient, was in the adolescent day program for over a month. Didn’t get any helpful info or tips and they spent time on everyone’s issues but mine (was in for severe anxiety and severe depression and was placed in the child group despite being 13 and all the focus was on the elementary and kindergarten kid’s anger issues.). All time was spent coloring, watching movies, and having group discussions about things I didn’t even have/deal with. Was told I didn’t have to talk at all yet had to speak in front of groups and when I informed an employee, nothing changed. I also reported an incident of sexual harassment from a patient and the only thing that came as a result was sitting at a different table at breakfast for one day. I still have nightmares about it. I do not recommend at all.

Nope, nope, nope. There were a couple friendly staff members but the rest of the gig is horrible. We trusted this place for our daughter and they failed. 7-10 day program, and they let her out in 5 days. She wasn't given any schooling. We were not able to talk to the doctor, WHO TOOK AWAY ONE OF HER PRESCRIPTIONS!??? wth? OK, so Prairie Care in Brooklyn Park and Rochester MN is a phenomenal place! First time our daughter needed help, this is where she went. Great program! The only reason we went to Fargo ND is because they were the only ones with a bed open. This was a waste of time for our daughter. :(

I'm putting 5 stars because people need to see this. I was a previous patient at PSJ almost 2 years ago. I was a very lost girl. My depression and suicidal thoughts/actions were terrible. After a suicide attempt my parents had no choice but to admit me somewhere I would be safe. Prairie Saint Johns took me in. Staff did whatever they could to try and keep me safe without breaking the rules they had to follow. It was ultimately in my hands to keep myself safe. It is in every patients hands to keep themselves safe. The staff truly cared about their patients. They want to help, but they cant control their patients thought, actions, and emotions. Personally, I am thankful for PSJ. Without PSJ i wouldn't be the person I am today. I'm currently working on getting my education in psychology and in the future hope to work at PSJ.

My fiance was involuntarily placed in that hospital and they wont let him discharge! He was informed twice of discharge date and. When that date arrived, they ripped it from him ONE HOUR before he was to be! They refuse to tell him anything!! How is this legal? IT ISN'T! I want that place to pay severely for what they have put him through! He says he's be thankful just to be out of there! This should not be forgotten!!!

Having had family and personal use of this institution, I understand if you live in the area and there are no other options, other than Sanford. The in-patient doctor, Dr A., charges a full hour for 15 mins of Px interaction, simply because he can take advantage of the pockets of the mentally vulnerable. Nobody is there to validate the charges and times associated. There is no follow through with the billing claims. Once discharged, they send your bill attributed to Doctor fees separately to a third party for payment; so you end up having to pay institutional fees separately. I was told that my insurance had covered my treatment, however later was not actually covered. I spent over an entire year's income at Prairie, despite having private health insurance. Clearly, profit comes before patients at this place. It saddens me that individuals getting treated for trauma have to undergo further financial trauma to heal.

I drove two hours to see my cousin with her best friend, knowing we would be late we called fifteen minuets before they closed letting them know we would arrive shortly. They said 'see you soon' on the phone. We got to Prairie at 8:38 and visiting hours ended at 8:30. Since they did NOT tell us to turn around we expected to see her. Instead, they brought us a 3 by 5 card with her patient ID, NOT HER NAME, and the times we could visit. The doctor decided that since visiting hours just ended we could not see her. Because obviously he knows what is best for my family member and someones life long best friend, obviously.

They have staff that are using and try to acquire drugs from patients.

Joanna Justice

Excellent experience. Wonderful food. Great service. Will not be back*

A relative was committed here against their will. They repeatedly were told fraudulent information, including being misled about release dates, and were told they couldn't leave when they had every legal right to leave. Every time we called the staff gave us different rules for contacting the relative, and asked for insurance information or payment before even talking about their "patient" and "treatment." This place is a money scheme. A joke, and shouldn't exist.

Waaby Wagner

I want to say thank you to all the staff that was in my unit, I can really tell that you guys care.

Mingyu

the staff were very VERY transphobic to me, lost a whole bag of my clothes and I still haven't gotten it back, lost my eyeliner for a while. Staff lose stuff alot, at least the snacks were good lol

Craig Johnson

I've called 6 times in a row,, and no answer they call this a place to go or talk to about a crisis your experiencing but no one answers the phone... very bad place. Sanford is better than here. At least they answered

Food was great and staff was super friendly and compassionate. They helped me wash my hair being I had a hurt wrist and staff also brushed and braided my hair. Some of the nurses were able to relate to my situation which gave me hope and moving forward with a better life.

I Kat

Very rude telephone system with personnel who interrupt, block, insult all in the process of trying to communicate. I'm a professional and was spoken to as if I were caught stealing something. Two different experiences with Prairie, two different years.

When I was being forced to go there it was so cold on the floor I was on and I got the thinnest blanket ever. When I came back on I probably felt worse than what I was. The treatment they put me on didn’t do anything, and it maybe even made me feel worse. There food was pretty good tho. One nurse there gave me glares when I started to talk to her.

sophie ty

rude nurses and they have no compassion for the patients

Pretty much bad for me when I was their from 2016? But anyways I remember staff was being grumpy and an attitude problem tours me and others. When I was going to get an call, they decline it and told em I was in a bad mood which wasn't true at all. And other thing that they don't care about. 1. I got spit on by a client and they didn't help and walked away, not helping me too. 2. My finger was COMPLETE SHUT when I was trying to enter and say sorry as I was directed too. Didn't care for about 20-21 seconds. Bad, like I was treated misubal and harassed too didn't i mention too by the way too. 3.Client slammed me thru the ground hard as I was pretty small as a kid, look like an mid-teenager.. Bad. Horrible do not recommend this if staff where prepared and take action too, so does for everyone safety and respect. Thanks 8/28/21

They care more about the MONEY than the patients. The main area in the entrance area was very dirty. The staff was rude. VERY unprofessional. People should goto another hospital and NOT this one. They runn the play badly and can't keep staff because of the poor conditions, hense forth why they have to hire travel people (nurses). treatment from nurses and other staff is POOR. AVOID THEM!

Robibucher9264

This place saved my life and im so grateful for all the staff. Anybody that says anything negative about it eitherwas not ready or in denial. After struggling with ptsd major depression and addictions for 27yrs and 17 yrs of incarceration for a drinking and driving accident where someone lost there life i was ready for suicide!!! But because of this place and the tools they've given i am now ready for a stBle life. God bless prarie st.johns and all of its staff. Thank you thank you!!!!

If you have an option, don’t come here. A random patient walked in to my family member’s room while she was in the restroom, an employee had told them it was ok for the other patient to utilize her restroom. Additionally, I am here waiting to get my family member and have been waiting for an hour now. The first time I was told that she was grabbing belongings, the second time I was told I was waiting on a nurse to discharge her. When I asked about the process, they said getting their belongings comes last, so I was either lied to or there was miscommunication. Avoid this place if you can!

Hevvy Rayne

This place is terrible, it doesn’t deserve to be labeled a “Hospital. When I stayed there I was eighteen and well on my own, but the hospital put me into the Adolescent unit. And treated me like a child, scolding me and putting me in a corner. I had an asthma attack and they wouldn’t give me my inhaler because they needed all sorts of information first. I was almost completely passed out before they gave me my fix to breathe. I needed a curtain on my bathroom, because if I didn’t have it, all Of the kids in the unit could see me

Dimitri Estrada

I was there for two months (2016) and the staff were very helpful because I was being cared for and the staff told me that i need to go to the hallway because I was "being rude to staff" but I got in there and when it escalated i saw a patient (can't say name due to policy) got bullied and when i tried get in the dorm they closed the door on me and they pinch my finger and i keep saying oww 9 times loudly and they heard me and they opened it finally! the food is gross and drinks are weird When i got out (release from there) I was given my (clothes toothbrush etc) I got a bag for my stuff! but they are really kind to me afterwords (I was 11 years old when i went their)

Well my experience was awful. I really wanted and needed to be there and I did hit all programming classes ..... Until I got the call from a well known software company whom I really wanted to go to work for. In less than a couple of hours they made me pack up almost 6 weeks of material, clothes and everything else and they literally threw me out to a homeless shelter. All for going on a job interview. Mind you I did my very best to schedule this that didn't conflict with (2)hours programming. As hard as I tried, the headhunters couldn't reschedule..... Awful experience #2 A couple of other things went on. I attended the Saturday morning mens meeting, and as I was getting out of the very back of the van, my foot slipped off the steps and I took a hard tumble out of the van and onto the concrete walkway. This caused a concussion and I still to this day have some of the aftereffects. Blurred vision..... Prairie told me that I shouldn't have (cheeked) my medications and that is what caused me to fall. Ya Right! I have NEVER cheeked anything in my life and I didn't know what cheeking medication was and why people would do this... What a lame excuse for an accident. They were trying to avoid a negligence lawsuit... And I was never going to do that. Now, I've hit rock bottom and am almost dead.... REALLY! I can't quit using, at least on my own... And Prairie won't let me back in. I just wonder how long I must be punished! It's been 3 years now and I've had evaluations done there, and got down into being admitted part.... And all the sudden Jacki came out and said I couldn't go there. Their excuse, I need a higher level of care... And get this. Prairie is a hospital..... They said I needed CCRI Creative Care for Reaching Independence and Sharehouse. Neither is a hospital setting. What a joke. I would NOT recommend them as your first choice when looking for recovery. I could go on but they do provide a great service and save lives..... Bottom line....

J Wien

I tried to get help twice from Prairie in the last six months. My husband & I begged for help and for me to be admitted and I was denied both times. Today, an administrator together with Dr. Mayor Mahoney talked about getting help here. What a joke! I live with major depression & constant panic attacks and my life isn't worthy enough to get help there.

Michael Domier

Unfriendly workers, They hurt me when I was there, Lied to me as well. Roommate was touching me in my sleep and I had to beg them to move him. Would not let me watch wrestling, Had to watch boring help video's, Couldnt talk about violence and they stole money from me that my grandfather gave to me. yelled at me.

I honestly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I was there back in 2018. I was inpatient twice, and was in the partial program after both inpatient stays. From both experiences, I felt like people there didn't care about my mental health. I felt like they weren't listening to my concerns or what I had to say. The therapist i had at Lakeland mental health in Moorhead listened better than anyone there did. I found out that I have borderline personality disorder, but that was when I was going to Lakeland for therapy. There at Prairie St. John's, they would've been able to help me figure that out if staff there would've just took the time to listen. Prairie St. John's did not help me at all. To this day, I still deal with several mental health issues. Also, I want to include something that happened last year. Last year around April or May, I tried calling in for a needs assessment because I was losing my mind. All they said when I called was "we'll call you tomorrow to do a needs assessment." The next day came, and they never called me to do the needs assessment. I understand the pandemic was going on really bad at that time, but they should've told me if they weren't accepting new patients. They are so lucky I didn't feel like engaging in self injurious behavior that day (you know what I mean) because if I did, that would be on them not me. So Prairie St. John's, you can do better.

Always a pleasure. Dr. Eric Tee is a great man. The food is good. The groups are awesome. I loved music therapy and the game group. Chuck was a great substance abuse counselor. The NA/AA meetings were helpful. PHP and inpatient treatment were both also great. The nurses and nurse techs were for the most part friendly and charming. Stephanie in particular. Thank God for PSJ. They saved my life and mental health on many occasions. The aftercare and discharge planning was always phenomenal.

It is a money scam, please avoid this place, the people that run it are not in it to help the health of their patients The bills received for family are CLEARLY scamming, insurance wasn’t filed even though they had the insurance on file, for. three. months! Each month a bill was sent for the full cost without a phone or contact information on the bill. Each time a family member called (through a google search) and was reassured it would be submitted to insurance. If you’ve never experienced this, it is a classic scam to double dip, both from your “clients” and then from the insurance companies. If you note the same response from the “owner” to every complaint review, it is a response that their IT is directed to copy/paste. (Remember their lower level workers are not the bad guys). Please save your family members from this place. It is not a good place for anyone whose pockets are not lined.

Alex Perry

The staff was helpful, however, the assessment staff is very uneducated and unprofessional. They weren't able to help my father in anyway. Very unfortunate.

Looking for empathy, compassion, understanding and patience, in a secure environment around knowledgeable and sympathetic staff? Look elsewhere. I was a volunteer admit(non-chemically dependant). I'm also a chronic pain patient. The 1st 3 days I suffered unmedicated from my pain medication, and the Arabic doctor who had met with me on 1st day for <5 minutes and through unintelligible words removed my nerve medication I'd been taking for 16 years which through me into severe withdrawal. A fellow patient said they overhead a nurse say they didn't believe I looked like I was hurting. Most nurses are argument provocative, and base their feelings on when you should take your medication, regardless of the scheduling. I left this hospital so quickly and angrily yesterday I skipped the exit survey made it to my car and Lord Jesus be praised found a bottle of my nerve medication and 16 hours later(at home) I'm finally calming down and losing my previously unknown cursing tongue. This place is truly hell on Earth. Many suffered here, and from my own experience and from others, avoid at all costs. Josef Mengele could make himself feel at home here.

My son was discharged after 3 days. They didn't give him his meds, and though its in his records that he is a video game and sugar addict they enabled him into a relapse. Dr McKinley is a narcissist with a God complex and incompetent because when called out for not giving my son his meds appropriately he not only hung up on me after being condescending and misogynistic, but told my son he didn't need his meds and there were no such addictions. Twice in the past he's ben there and after discharge due to their negligence my son ended up going into full blown psychosis and ending up in major legal trouble. He's only 16 and was making massive progress until sent there. They need to shut this place down like Strattera center.i requested all of his medical records including dr notes and med doses and distribution times. I have not received them at all. Do NOT send your family members here. I will be seeking a malpractice lawyer. I believe we all need to call the state and omnibus office. This place is as bad as the hospitals they shut down in the 80s.

I just got out of this place. I agree with most people on here. I was luckily only there for 3 days but I'll never go back. I only talked to the therapist/ Psychologist once. I only talked to the head dr on the morning I was going home. I had no idea WHEN I was going home. They just left me alone and didn't really help. All you do is sit in your room or in the day room on your unit and wait for a group to start. The only thing they did right for me was correctly diagnose me. That's why I gave them 2 stars. The bathrooms were GROSS and smelled like urine all the time and the beds sucked. I would constantly wake up to the nurse shining a flashlight in my face all throughout the night so that means I got little sleep. It was hell. Find someplace else to seek treatment.

Emily Roach

If I could describe this place with one word it'd be "traumatic". The staff seemed to be doing their best with what little they had to work with. They had almost zero control over the more extreme patients, my roommate was delusional and schizophrenic would burst out screaming at all hours, definitely didn't help my anxiety. The cleanliness left much to be desired. They refused to tell me about my discharge the entire time, there were maybe 3 meesly minute long visits with the actual doctor throughout my week long stay. I left this place months ago and it still keeps me up at night so here I am writing a review long after the fact. This doesn't even scratch the surface of the ordeal me and these other patients have been through in our stay here. I pray neither you nor your loved ones ever have to go through this.

French Trace

If you had any concern about this facility, just go check the 5 star reviews. How many of them only mention the food? How many of them are from parents who never had to go through the treatment? How many specifically say stuff like "its great cuz they didn't disciminate against me" as if thats not the lowest possible bar to hold a facility to? If you took out the people who didn't actually mention getting any kind of personal and positive care, the actual rating would be closer to 1.5 stars instead of the current 2.5 (which is already not a great rating). Here is my advice for anyone who has no choice but to enter their care, especially if you're female, LGBT+, don't speak English as a first language, or are any form of undeserved minority: Know your rights to request transfer/grievance and use them. Document everything your doctor does to you, as they will threaten to take you to court and place a forced hold on you as a retaliation against your right to file grievance. Repeat that you aren't attempting to leave, you're just exercising your right to transfer and right to file grievance. Don't give them any more ammo than you have to by crying in front of a doctor. Save it for when you're alone. Never say the words "I want to leave" or "I dont feel safe here". That will be translated to mean "I'm trying to escape" and they will retaliate against you accordingly.

Stephany Geske

Absolutely horrible. I went in April of 2018 and none of the nurses would help. My doctor was very rude and tried to keep me longer for my agression. That "agression" was me getting frustrated because he kept saying the same things over and over. Only upside to this establishment was I met some very awesome people who j now consider friends.

This place is not a Hospital, this place is the highest restrictive "help" you can get. The counsrlers and nurses don't believe anything you tell them, they question everything you say, as tho your already guility. The food is nasty the bed is a child cot. It's basically jail for the me tally ill... should be shut doen! NO HUMAN DESERVES TO BE TREATED LIKE A PRISONER FOR HAVING A MENTAL ILLNESS.

I was traumatized there. During outpatient they tried to put me in inpatient against my will. Had to run away. Literally run away because I was gonna be put away against my will. During inpatient I was having a panic attack and hit a wall. My hand shattered and is still messed up to this day. They are trying to charge me 1k for “treating” me. Don’t go here if you really want to get better. They will only hurt you more.

Belinda Kennedy

My son had been to a lot of places and this one helped him 100 per cent if u really want help prairie saint johns is the place to go

Baby G1rl

If I could rate this place any lower then I would, the nurse staff is rude and unhelpful, if you have loved one in here you will just have to reside yourself with being unable to get any information out of them about your loved ones. My best friend almost like my sister was sent out of state from Minnesota to come to this back waters prison (oh sorry hospital...NOT!!) the horrors that I heard how they treat the patience is absurd and they should be shut down and force to relive everything they put their so-called patients through. I hope it burns in hell

Jeff Larson

Feel like checking yourself in? Please dont. It's honestly a racket... insurance fraud. They will try to commit you or put you on a hold to maximize their patient days. If you have anxiety, it'll make it much worse. They lump together all the patients to make it logistically easier to fill beds. People with anxiety on the same units as people that are violent and psychotic. Rape victims on the same units as convicted rapists. Very unsafe. Staff get beat up almost every day. Whenever this happens administration blames the staff for not having good "verbal deescalation skills". Administration is grossly negligent and will do anything to cut costs... most likely so they can get bonuses from corporate.

kitten mastermind

Some of the nurse where alsome but they did not help me at all, I went in expecting intense treatment for pass traumatic events Instead they treated me for my autism with out realizing that I was part of the neurodevisty movement and that I did not see it as a disability, I also never saw the damn therapist which would have greatly changed my treatment plane away form my autism.

Camryn Hunt

Angela Hampton

I stayed in the Psych unit for 3 days and the entire place was a joke. There was mold in my shower, the walls were dirty, and there wasn't much patient/staff interaction. Trying to get my meds after I was released was a joke too. The pharmacy has tried multiple times to contact the Dr about changing my script so my ins will cover it, but they've had no returned contact from the Dr. I've called and left multiple messages and haven't received a single call back either. I guess it's okay to let someone that has a history of being suicidal go days on end without their meds. As long as it's avoidable, I'll never go back to that place.

Shawn Kranz

I actually went here when I was younger. they never washed our clothes. there were kids who would wear the same clothes because the ones they had got lost. this place should be shut down. the staff were borderline abusive.

Alex Rodriguez

Those people lie lie lie hold you against your will

Lucas Hager

This place is hell on earth. Where they get off calling it 'st.' Jonh's is damn right blasphemy! God would never sanction a place as terrible as this, where ex-cons mutter that prison was better suited than this place. Avoid it at all costs if you're looking for help. Look elsewhere, you won't find anything but despair here.

Boi Howdy

Worked here as a traveler. They lacked proper staff for the acuity they served. One nurse for a whole unit is unacceptable. A long with one tech for said unit. They were very nonchalant about safety. Also, staff was racist. If you're an American black person especially a female , you're immediately gawked at. I rarely felt comfortable there. Even black staff who were already there talked about the racial tension there. I understand north Dakota may not be used to black people but seriously , don't let your bias get in the way of treating people with respect. They were also very fake and cutthroat towards each other. They would smile in your face and still try to get you in trouble. Terrible establishment with terrible policies and people. Don't work there or be treated there.

Starlight Nonya

AVOID this place!!

jason lambert

I was a patient here as a teenager and came back to work as a Psych Tech (they require 2 years since being a patient before applying). Being on both sides I have a unique view of this place. I've also been to several other mental health facilities for comparison. As a honest review I'd say the treatment here is appropriate and the staff, as a whole, do their job. The nurses and other techs here are human just like at any other hospital. After being attacked by patients, working double shifts, and getting called the N*gger by both young and old people...staff will sometimes lose their composure. The worst you'll get from staff is being talked to like they're you're parent. You'll never be neglected, forced medications, or hit...ever. This place is a mental health hospital, no ER, no med-surg. The staff has much better tolerance for patient behavior than places like Essentia or Sanford. Those nurses are not full-time psych and it shows in their treatment of patients. They threaten patients "if you don't take these pills, we'll restrain you or the police will take you to jail, etc.." We don't use restraints and I've never seen a seclusion in my 2 years here. Take the other reviews for what their worth....mental health patients with suicidal ideation and/or drug addiction wondering why they can't smoke in their rooms, have cell phones, and shoe strings.

When I was at prairie last year in may, I was in the children unit (12 at the time). Some of the children in my unit had anger issues which led to screaming and tantrums from them in the middle of the night which made it hard to sleep and one kid had a fit and scratched up my arm. My doctor listened and got him removed from my unit. But otherwise, prairie has helped me, it made me feel like I was at home... I wish visits were longer too. But when I got out of prairie, my bf broke up w me, so my depression struck again.

Poop Sock

Not a lot of treatment, a whole lot of playing cards, watching tv, and going to one-size-fits-all groups that by that virtue didn't really help that much. I am giving this three stars for two reasons: 1) It's just the same or worse at any other inpatient treatment center. I peg it to the 1:167 ratio rule: 1 hour of actual treatment per week and the other 167 are spent on cards/tv/pacing/sleeping/bashing your head against a wall in boredom. Seriously, unless you're going to kill yourself and you want to be in an environment where that won't be possible for a while, stick with outpatient. Inpatient just houses you, feeds you, and keeps you from killing yourself for a few thousand dollars a day. 2) I met a fantastic psychiatrist there (not Dr. Egypt), Dr. Jenny Frissell. I have never had a talk therapist help me, but she was the first. I got referrals and now I'm seeing a specialist she recommended on an outpatient basis and it's going well. Oh, but huge thumbs down for Dr. Egypt. Anyone who's been there knows who I'm talking about; yeah, he's from Egypt if you were wondering. He does not freaking listen, he just dominates the conversation in your 5-minute med check and that's it. I'm as autistic as the day is long and he diagnosed me with schizophrenia; those two are polar opposites. That guy's a turkey, to put it mildly.

Amanda Smith

I was there a total of 4 days and they tore me off medication I have been on that worked for me for years. I didn't sleep. They treated me like an addict when I don't even use drugs and alcohol. I was a mess when I left. Having severe side effects from meds they put me on. Wasn't sleeping and having restless leg syndrome.

this is a wonderful place to receive treatment. i’ve been inpatient eight times and inpatient here four times and only at prairie st. john’s have i left each and every time feeling better. i came in very suicidal and hopeless, literally just done with life entirely. i still have a bit to move forward with on the journey of curing my mental health, but i don’t feel hopeless anymore and i feel a whole lot better now. they’re not lying when they say that they offer hope and healing. if the staff see this review, as well as my psychiatrist whom i won’t list publicly, i hope they know i’m very grateful for them and their support. don’t be deceived by the negative reviews, whilst many have varying views, personally, i’ve been to five different placements, even newer ones, over the past seven years of my life, so since i was the age of ten, and if you truly participate in the treatment services here, they’re very very helpful, and of my pure opinion, based on my experiences inpatient, this one tops every other facility i’ve been to. so, thank you. side note, i originally left a four star review, but as i was replaced here, i will offer a five star review.

This place only cares about making money than taking care of the patients!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I was admitted for almost 3 weeks. It is truly hell. One patient had an absolute schizophrenic meltdown for an hour straight while hurting themselves and none of the staff cared. One nurse told me no one would care if I hurt/killed myself. I was forced on medication after telling them a million times I refuse to take meds because of horrible past experiences. A nurse even made fun of me when I had a mental breakdown. 95% of the staff is horrible people and I will never go back again

Nilis

To date, I've been to this place twice. Both times were horrible experiences. There were few redeeming staff, and myself and other patients were punished for not following non-existent rules. Of the redeeming staff, I can say that they were great and did all they could to help me. However most of the staff were absolutely horrible. I was admitted both times against my will, and the second time I was told I wouldn't be admitted before being forced to go to the place. They did very little to help, and both times when I was released from inpatient I felt worse than I had going in. They don't allow us enough time with our doctors and therapists, because they don't have enough. Instead they just use group therapy and a one-size fits all technique that is terrible and doesn't help at all. This place is terrible, and I would never recommend Prairie St. John's to anybody looking for help. I know there isn't mush else around, but for your own sake try to find something better for yourself, because you deserve better.

When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. If you are struggling with things and can not cope, the kind, caring and friendly staff here can offer hope! It may sound like I am a sales person but that I am not. If you don't have the strength to make lemonade out of those lemons do not be afraid of this place, they can help!

Beth Niswander

I was there almost a year ago. It was a great experience and they had healthy food. Healthy employers whom made me feel like I was worth getting better. Not everything was perfect but it was the best inpatient treatment I have had. They helped me and I have been successful ever since!!!

If u have blue cross and a drinking problem this is not the place for you. I was enrolled in a program here for 5 days before I was pretty much kicked to the curb and enrolled in a different program I had already done for insurance reasons. The counselors really seemed to care, but the company does not so if u have to money good for you this is the place in north Dakota,

The way patients are treated as sub-human in this place will never not disturb me.

My son is there now, December 24, 2021. He is 18 but still in high school. He signed a release of information so that I could be informed about his care. I've been trying to get ahold of him all day. I have been hung up on twice, transferred to 2 different voicemails, told to call back 3 times and one tech said to me, “blah, blah, blah,” and then hung up on me. Finally, I was able to talk to a nurse and she said that she would get him and then she said that he is sleeping. She doesn't want to wake him up. What kind of place does this? Whenever I ask for a phone number to a social worker or patient advocate, they transfer me but won’t give me a phone number. Then I just get another voicemail. I have left messages but have not received any calls back.

i had to go there a few times about two years ago. each time it felt like the place was understaffed and poorly organized. some of the staff there was awesome, but a majority of it was either well-meaning but couldnt do things effectively with low staff, or didn't understand mental illness well enough to help someone with it. extreme patients put in with those just trying to get through a 72 hour watch (which for me was always at least a week, without ever actually saying when i'd get to leave), and it leads to a lot of tense and anxiety-inducing moments. the whole place is really like an old time asylum in modern day. or some weird endurance trial ...you dont get a bathroom with a door, just a curtain. if someone decides to eat soap then they take everyone's soap and tell them to use shampoo as soap. you have very little say in what you think will help you best. etc etc. i sincerely hoped they've changed since i've been there. I might make a more detailed one with certain doctors i loved and wasnt the fondest of if i can find the old paperwork for it. overall, i'd say go somewhere else if you can. and if you have no say, then try to keep your head down and wait until you can go somewhere that really helps.

Awful, I would give ZERO STARS if I could. The doctor basically was playing god and felt like he could do whatever he wanted. The charge nurse was rude and uncompassionate. The vast majority of the workers were there only for the paycheck. If you needed anything, your best chance was with the lower level workers, as in the ones who went around taking vital signs. I got more out of the other patients than any of the staff combined. It you want out you have to lie and stroke their egos.

Peggy Anderson

Good luck trying to get any help here. Very unprofessional!!!

This is place' ethics are disgusting and the Doctors there...should ashamed of themselves!! Especially one in particular! This woman makes accusations on families without even seeing or meeting them. She can take her little power trip and her accusations and shove them right up her foreign ass!!

Aaron McCollum

Worst place i have ever been to. People in prison get treated better than the saff treats the patients here. People that are looking to get help are just being punished. I strongly do not recommend.

Wasnt a patient but my child was, poorest thing I ever saw, bugs, dirty, do not trust this place, they medicate patients to zombie status and do not have clean units. Breathing flies, I agree with previous comment of "criminally negligent".

absolutely awful. almost died in inpatient, because the nurse didn't listen when taking my blood when I told her I was anemic & unable to lose any more blood & the doctor immediately took me off an old med & started me on 2 new meds the same day so my body went into shock. I ended up in the ER, even though was specifically in inpatient to prevent myself from committing suicide. Staff is horrible aside from 1 guy who actually values his job.

My Husband was sent there with a broken back which occurred during his mental health crisis. He was in excruciating pain and was not given any pain medicine until the next day after I made multiple phone calls to the nurse( I was not allowed to visit) Then it was prescribed as needed and my husband was expected to walk to the desk to get it. He was unable to get out of bed from the broken back. He was given a wheel chair, placed by his bed. There were no call buttons in his room at all and he could not ask for help. He had to wait for someone to come into his room to get help. When I called the nurse about my concern, I was told that they had no medical services and staff visited him every 15 minutes. ( What if he fell in the mean time?) Other patients helped him get down to the dinning room to eat. I also asked for his back to be evaluated by a spine doctor because he was unable to walk. I was told again that this was not a medical facility. I asked for my husband to be transferred to a medical facility with both psychiatric and medical care and I was refused. After 2 days, I was told that I could no longer speak directly to my husband by phone. I would have to leave messages on the patient phone at the desk. My husband never got my messages and was never informed that I called. ( He cant walk remember) I did catch the doctor by phone and explained my medical and safety concerns about my husband, I wanted him further evaluated for spine issues, mobility needs, equipment needs in hospital and at discharge. He refused and told me that " whoever told you he needed that was blowing sunshine up your butt" Later that day I got a call to come and pick up my husband the next day. He was being discharged to home. I asked for help with equipment such as a wheel chair, commode, etc ( for home) I was told that they don't do that here. My husband was sent home without any referrals or equipment. I had to borrow equipment from friends and he was unable to walk up the 3 steps to get in the house. I had to find a spine doctor myself and it took 3 weeks to get into. My husband was told that surgery for his broken back would have been helpful but his fracture was " too old" to perform the surgery. He was placed in a back brace for 3 months with the hope that it will heal on its own!! There is no excuse for this treatment!

Anyone who gives a bad remark is there against their will. Seriously. This is an awesome place to get better. Believe me.

Sausage Mahony

Wish I could give 0 stars. If you need help don’t come to this hole.

Blue Eyed Ghost

First off the majority of the nurses have a bad attitude and pretty much roll their eyes whenever a patient asks for something. Situations are allowed to escalate to violence or very aggressive actions before staff will step in. If you need support during a panic attack or other issue during your stay here don’t expect staff to accommodate you. The groups are great and very helpful but there was no real offers of one on one therapist time. One of the main psychiatrists there LOVES to prescribe lithium. Almost everyone on the unit with me was on it. If you tried to talk with the psychiatrist he would speak over you loudly and not let you finish your sentences. Food was AWFUL regardless of what the other reviews say. You get plenty of it but it’s all pre-packaged frozen slop. Lastly, when you discharge don’t expect them to help you too much with what to do after. They sent my medications to the wrong pharmacy somehow. They also sent me with wrong medications on my medication list when I left the place but I was too excited to leave to fix it with them. As if they’d listen anyway if I had tried to fix it. If you have the option to avoid this place then do it.

Elizabeth Brooks

Needs to be shut down.

Group therapy, recreation, and discussion. Too bad they have not been able to build a new facility yet.

Jose Fuentes

For my first experience in treatment this was a very welcoming place. The people make you feel that there is hope. They don't allow you to give up and motivate you to keep moving foward. I had the opportunity to do outpatient and inpatient and was treated with the same kindness and was not discriminated at all due to my addictions. Overall I would recommend this to all. Oh yeah the food is awesome as well. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, to all staff.

I wouldn't even give 1 star if I didn't need to to leave this review. The Drs are clearly incompetent and the staff must be lazy! My soon has attempted suicide on more then one occasion and had I not intervened with police he'd of been successful! Mayo released him the first time. Now these nimbwits are releasing him too! He clearly is no where near stable. He remains a danger to himself and if agitated he is a danger to others. I'm reporting them for negligence to thier licensing board and should he actually do as he's intending I quill sure the fuck out out these people for wrongful death because it could have been prevented!

Kate Ternes

The staff is completely overwhelmed by the more intense patients. The level of cleanliness there is appalling. The showers reek of mold and mildew and it's up to the patients to make sure their rooms get cleaned and bedding gets changed. There are just clearly not enough people working there to actually help patients get better. Patients are not allowed outside all week long, there is minimal exercise offered, and most of the day is spent in a small common area with a single tv and coloring books and a patient about to go off at any minute. It was quite terrifying to be there. It seemed more like a jail for the mentally unwell or a holding pen for those on their way to prison.

Carson Messmer

This place doesn't even deserve a star went for an eval for treatment said I needed residental.waited for a bed to open and then had to come back and do another eval before i got put in.they said I didn't need treatment after a month waiting for a bed to open.I quit my job and everything so I could be there for 7 weeks or more spent bunch of money and this was all court ordered. Worst place ever lawyer says pending law suit for my losses.

Jordan Beck

Terrible. If you have a loved one there do whatever you can to get them out. I was there on an involuntary suicide watch. I had several opportunities to kill myself. Luckily I'm not suicidal, but I damn near thought about it after being there. There WERE a few staff members that seemed to genuinely care and there were quite a few patients I enjoyed getting to meet, but this facility is a f****** joke and a nightmare all wrapped into one pathetic cluster**** of non-productivity and constantly violates hipaa laws and people's basic rights as human beings. If the facility was a person I would gladly accept a prison sentence for slitting its throat. Sorry to be so honest. I was discharged there with a "diagnosis" of schizophrenia by a doctor Akgul who I met with for less than twenty total minutes. Seemed like a nice guy, maybe it wasn't his fault and he misread someone else's incorrect paperwork. They failed to send medication to the pharmacy they claimed to send it to, they refused to give me my summary and discharge information several times, they have staff members there that get easily upset and taunt patients, i was physically attacked in front of staff and they did nothing, they threatened to call the police on me for raising my voice when I was denied my medical records, then when I tried contacting law enforcement they brought ten nurses into the room and a large syringe full of sedatives and threatened to sedate me against my will. This place does not deserve to have its license and is a disgrace to Saint John. If zero stars was an option I would click it until the rating got to where it should be. My name is Jordan Beck and I approve this message.

Poorest service in the mental health industry I have seen as of yet. Criminal negligence through malpractice and overall lack of real effort. Massive waste of resources. Should be thoroughly investigated. Extremely poor note taking in files, and clearly they aren't trained very well.

Shannon Holbrook

Thought this place suppose to help people but I guess I’m wrong.

Wont answer if they have open beds makes u talk to intake if they answer because they never call back no matter how many times you leave ur name and number. Then they say oh we have a week waiting list always! So they are doing nothing to provide more room for more patients because yanno every addict should have to wait a week for help cause they can do that right? Are you people seriously that stupid?

Eric Vangsness

I was in Prairie from Oct 28th and released Nov 3rd for my particular issues of anger, anxiety, and alchohol. The extreme damage that was eminent was luckily barely avoided by luck because of my family, friends as well as myself admitting that I need help. In that short time I really was either lucky or just had the will power to want to change. My take away is that an institute such as prairie is not a cure all, it is a tool for those that have a work ethic and will power to make an attempt but the biggest part that I see is having a good support group on the outside. I might be one of the lucky ones. If Prairie reads this please let each and everyone that was on 4 South in that stretch know I still say thank you. In under 1 week after leaving prairie I got in a bad tangle with a 1200# cow in a crowded pen that probably should have killed me but I am still alive to at least give a review for those that are attempting to make a difference. To make a change is a very difficult and my guess an ongoing process. Outside of #1 I'm not sure there is an order 1. Self want to change 2. Family/friend support to get better 3. A facility with resources to give one self a base to work with. 4. The individual takes some tools and starts using them. 5. The individual support group outside MUST understand the needs and nurture (not coddle) the needs to get better

Michaela Luna

This facility is a joke!!!! When you call they take over 15 min to answer. They don't care about thier patients at all! This place needs new employees who actually care not just care about a paycheck!

Roxanna Roxanna

My daughter is currently a patient at this facility, it has saved her life thus far. I have contacted my daughter and I can already see the good results in the short amout of time she has been there. I salute the professionals at PSJH on their good work and dedication serving those with mental illness and substance abuse. This field is not easy for anyone involved, it takes a lot of strength to deal with issues these people are presented with. Keep up the good work.

Tami Kromarek

Not very good, no actual healing or helping. A lot of watching movies, playing games and other random distractions. Very little therapy or real treatment for either addictions or mental health issues. Can't keep patients from using while staying inpatient. Kind of a joke.
