You will be able to see the opinions of real people like you who are buying the products and services of McGill Student Wellness Hub (Psychiatrist) in Châteauguay (Canada).
To this day the firm gets a score of 1.6 out of 5 and this rating has been based on 59 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is very scarce, and it's based on a high number of reviews, so we can say that the assessment is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to value when they are happy, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to place opinions when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Psychiatrist belongs to the category of Wellness center.
Horrible, horrible service. This is the worst place for students, especially international students. The people on the front line are so rude and arrogant. They will not comprehend with patients at all
The services have improved greatly
Literally the worst health centre possible. They only schedule you for doctors appointments on Wednesdays because thats when the "new slots" open and it fills up within an hour of opening. I tried calling for 3 weeks, only to either be put on hold for hours and never called back or told that they ran out of appointments. By the 4th week, I finally get an appointment and come 5 minutes before my scheduled time... only for 1/3 receptionists to be working and the other 2 just chatting. After 15 minutes of waiting, my number finally gets called and then I get blamed for being late to my appointment. Once I got checked in, I went to my waiting area to see my doctor frantically searching for me... then told that since I'm late to my appointment, another student will be seen before me. It is now 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and I am still waiting. Edit: the doctors are extremely kind though, so that kind of compensates for everything else...
It's not that the staff aren't trying their best, but the sheer volume of people they have to see necessitates that you wait a month to get 2-3 sessions before they have to refer you off campus. Most often this means you do all the intake work before you're turfed to another service that.... immediately makes you restart all the intake work. I am not exaggerating when I say the only difference between the Wellness Hub and googling "montreal + mental health" is that you wait 6 weeks.
Literally the worst clinic I have ever been to. Firstly, it is next to impossible to get an appointment closer than a month away and to do so you must sit on the phone for Atleast 15 min before someone speaks to you. Secondly, the reception is incredibly rude. I had an appointment and they gave me grief for “not completing forms” though I told them I had, to which they told me I didn’t, proceeded to sass me about it for five minutes until the receptionist realized she had been the one to lose the forms. Another time, I was scheduled two months in advance to have an operation. Getting to the clinic on the date of my operation, I was Told I couldn’t do it because a nurse had forgotten to book me in for a consultation and lab work before hand. Once again they were rude TO ME about this mistake with no apologies for the trouble. I ended up getting the operation done somewhere else because their Wait times were so long and I had to be rescheduled (after waiting for two months for this appointment). I have found the doctors to be quite helpful and really nice. Reception is awful. Organization and booking is awful. I have friends who have seen psychiatrists there that have been down right unprofessional, and dangerous prescribing medication after 15 minutes of meeting a patient. If your insurance covers it PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE
Personally I've only had good experiences with staff, although I know others have some horror stories, especially about councillors. The issue is with the organization. The system they have going doesn't work for anyone because McGill refuses to hire more than a couple doctors to serve tens of thousands of students. Also, the single phone line to access services is a terrible idea. Most days, it's impossible to speak with anyone at all. After making you wait on hold they eventually just hang up because they're over capacity. Today there's no holiday, no notice on their website, and it's regular operating hours, but the phone lines all say that they're closed. The upper management is incredibly unprofessional and has no regard for students' safety. A lot of staff do their best, but it's just not going to work until health of students is made a priority
They can do all the renovations that they want, it was and still is the worst health service ever.
absolutely horrible. to try and get an appointment, they are booked weeks if not months out, no exception. To do a walk-in, you have to wake up incredibly early and line up for hours before they open for any chance of getting one. The whole system is horribly organized and does not cater to students. When I was able to get a therapy appointment, they let me know that they recommend I continue going to weekly sessions, but they had no availability to provide that for me, and I had to go somewhere else.
I like the new system and that everything is under one place.
This is very good ONCE you get the chance to meet a health professional. They're really understaffed. Please use any funding available to hire more professionals instead of buying furniture. The look of the hub is not important. The services are!
Posting because a very nice nurse asked me about my experience with the Wellness Hub, and when I sounded positive she was pleasantly shocked and asked me to please leave a review for other students. Getting an appointment with psychiatric services (non-emergency route) did take about 2 months, but once I got the first appointment I was given quick access to a dietitian (who I can now see once a week in the Brown Building), a regular doctor who was great and will also follow up on all the results of the tests, and wrote a note for my faculty allowing me to study part-time, as well as blood tests and an EKG (heart test) all administered on-site. McGill's health services still have tons of issues, and especially delays, but don't let the One Stars scare you!! It is not that bad and once you're in the system it's soooo much easier to have your healthcare on campus.
Canada’s most respected University completely fails to provide basic support for its students. Worse, they do not seem to care. The lack of health and mental health services adequate to the needs of a multinational student community is shameful, especially during the Pandemic- the most challenging time for everyone, but especially students away from home/country. Any effort to communicate with anyone with authority is impossible.
This place has helped me every way possible despite the lack of resources at times. Everyone is very nice and supportive and give their best to help.
If throughout my journey I had been given any indication that the hub, or McGill, cares at all about my mental health, comfort, safety, or consistent care, I’d be inclined to leave a better review. As it stands, I’ll keep it at one star. You care about your students? Hire more counselors. Hire better staff. Recognize that your attempt to “unify” and “streamline” services into one “central” location led to my lifesaving prescription being forgotten on a receptionist’s desk for two full weeks. It led to half of my calls and emails — based on information from the site and from staff — being redirected to other departments after being held or ignored for hours or days. The million-dollar donations mean NOTHING if your students are consistently under-served, unhappy, unhealthy, and at risk.
The reason I give 1 star is only because the lowest rating scale is 1 Star. If possible I wanna give negative
Clearly they didn't ask any student using mental health services nor any psychiatrist about this merging of things. Calling the student "wellness" hub is a painful process and the people managing it seem incompetent to handle this merge.
EDITED REVIEW Since the pandemic the Hub was forced to change their booking system and you can now book on any day of the week. This is so much better and the service has sincerely improved. ORIGINAL REVIEW Good luck getting an appointment. You can only book them on Wednesday's for the upcoming week and slots fill up within an hour or two. I called as soon as the phone lines opened and they just hang up; hold for 30 minutes to be told all the spots are full. I have to book an appointment with my family doctor out of province in the east coast to get the care I need. What a ridiculous and ineffective system. They should adopt uOttawa's health care model. It is absurd and damaging to people who need care and can't pay out of pocket to see a non-McGill based Quebec practitioner.
Called the office to make an appointment. They said they're booked and I should call back on Wednesday. Called back on Wednesday. They said they're booked and I should call next week. Repeat for three weeks. Students like me have actual medical issues that need to be solved, and we often can't get a drop-in appointment at 8:30 because, you know, we're students and have class. McGill needs to do better.
Awful and mean counsellors
It's the middle of a pandemic and same-day care isn't an option. You can only get it if you get lucky and there's a cancelation, otherwise be prepared to wait a month. If you can get an appointment, you're pretty well good to go, but getting one in the first place takes 3-5 weeks and apparently the calendar doesn't always let front desk workers see that far... There's 35,000 students but not nearly enough doctors.
Absolutely horrific.
Do not, I repeat, do not seek a therapist from here. Left the session feeling horrible about myself, she made me feel like I was a waste of time and that my problems were invalid.
"Unfortunately, we are currently receiving a higher than normal number of calls leading to excessive wait time, please call us back later. Thank you." And then they hang up. I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I can't seem to get an appointment. I have a serious issue but not serious enough for the emergency room (yet). If you don't have a family doctor in Quebec, this is the only route for receiving public medical care. Should I just wait until I end up in the emergency room?? How is this happening in a first world country in one of the supposedly top universities in the world??
You can't just spend some money renovating, and then pretend you've solved the harrowing problem of a laughable lack of physical and mental healthcare for students. How many cover ups around catastrophic student health, McGill?
I heard very invalidating statements from my therapist. It was not efficient at all.
I called the day before to make an appointment with a doctor, and they told me that I couldn't make an appointment and that I should come to a drop in appointment the next day, which I did, so I got there at 8am (opening time). Waited 1h30. Finally talked to someone that told me there was no appointment for today and that I had to go to a private clinic. Useless and definitely a waste of time. Thank you McGill.
I have had so many bad experiences with clinicians just giving me actually wrong information and just organizational bs of losing files
Not even worth the one star. I was trying to book an appointment with a nurse for a week to get an appointment. They don't say on the website what their policies are, and whenever you call there is a new regulation regarding their scheduling and booking system. Places fill up in less than 1h and a half from opening new appointments availabilities. They said they upgraded their system to serve better students, and it has been worse than their last services.
They make it as hard as they can to get you an appointment with a doctor and are not much help when you get to see one
I've been trying to book an appointment with a counselor, but nothing available. Is there really a thing named "Counselling service" at McGill? What are students who need counselling service supposed to do?
Honestly, if you go early you shouldn't have a problem. I was at the entrance at 6:40am and was second in line. I got my ticket at 7am and when it opened at 8am I was scheduled for an appointment at 9:15am. I was out by 9:30am. Just show up early and bring something to read! My doctor was super nice and helpful.
Upgrading your interior doesn’t change the fact your staffs are rude, appointments through the new system takes longer now and unprofessional racist doctors . Not giving students the service they deserve. Corruption!
It's actually 0 star. Called to take an appointment with a psychiatrist twice today. They didn't know what to do and wanted to talk to people at psychiatrist services upstairs so they promised to call back both times, which never happened. Been trying for hours now and they don't pick up the phone anymore. It's pretty basic management sense to make sure the system works before you open it to public.
I've had a positive experience so far! I dropped in once at 8:30 and got an appointment for the same day. The staff is friendly and understanding. I was able to meet with a psychiatrist in a matter of days, and they were pretty honest about the level of help they can provide. A lot better than the health clinic we had last year!
If you do not arrive at 7am, they will not accept you into the clinic anymore. I have been a student at McGill for 3 years and prior to the move I was frequently able to get drop in visits in the middle of the day. Now the system seems even more limited and inefficient. They only accept scheduling appointments on specific days that seem to rotate every week. Good luck getting any health care from your university at all now.
Unfortunately, all advisors are always fully booked. I have been checking availabilities daily for the past three weeks and have never seen an open slot. What is the point of this service if it is unavailable to the vast majority of the student population?
The worse service I have ever been exposed to. They cancelled 4 appointments of mine with minimal notice. They called to cancel a 9:00am appointment at 8:40am the same day. They did this more than once. Anyone who has to incorporate travel time would never get the message in a timely manner. They keep making the same illogical mistake, if you can't notify students in time then advocate for appointments starting at a later time. Interesting how they put a fee schedule up for student cancellations that are not done in a timely manner, but take no responsibility for their own mistakes.
relentlessly incompetent, slow, and rude. this is a way for mcgill to look like they care about 'student wellness' without directing more funds to the issue or using those funds appropriately. it's very insulting to the students.
I have been trying to set up an appointment for the past month with no luck. Integrating all services into one hub made accessing healthcare even more difficult. If you struggle with chronic mental or physical health problems, do not expect McGill to help out.
horrible service hire more doctors. please.
Never come here. Apparently McGill is too poor to even afford one more doctor or receptionist. Giving it an one star because it is the lowest rating possible. Would have given it a zero if I could.
Terrible, terrible service. Wish I could leave zero stars.
