Excellent staff who care
The ROH is a an excellent asset for our city. They are implementing innovative programs to help people enjoy better mental health and wellness. I attended a morning session today and it was very practical. Hopefully the Royal will continue develop programs, sessions and workshops that reach many and breaks down the stigma surrounding mental illness! I applaud the work currently being done.
This is a mental-health hospital, however, there is no emergency department. I have a family member who was referred to a physician at the hospital and they have received great care. The hospital also has an addiction program and a concurrent disorder clinic that you can self refer to.
I took part in a sleep study at the Royal Ottawa several years ago (~2017). Paid parking is available around the building, though I don't recall if payment was required during my overnight visit. Upon entering the hospital, I "checked-in" with the receptionist, who provided me with directions that led to the sleep lab. Inside the lab is a hallway with several doors on either side; each opening to a 6'×12' single-person room. Before going to bed, the laboratory technician attached various wires and devices to my person. These were of course, to collect the relevant data while I slept. Not surprisingly however, the wires can be somewhat limiting in the degree of movement they allow of the patient whilst still collecting data successfully. The simple knowledge that I was being monitored while I slept was also -of course- an odd scenario. ???? I wasn't initially certain if I would be comfortable enough to fall asleep in "that environment." As it turned out, I slept well! Despite the rooms having been outfitted with the inclusion of the requisite electronics and technology required to monitor and collect all patient data that is relevant for a sleep study, it is my opinion that their staff has been successful in the design and maintenance of these rooms. They are clean, comfortable and -incredibly- even have the genuine ambience of a bedroom in your home. The Royal Ottawa Hospital offers specialized professional health care that is targeted towards helping an incredibly wide array of patients and their uniquely individualized concerns. The ROMHC offers hope to persons from both the Ottawa Valley region and across Canada. This invaluable national resource aims to cast a social safety net towards many struggling persons who would otherwise remain marginalized and/ or prone to falling through the cracks of the system of our society.
I don't know how it was for anyone else but I was referred to Dr.Hatcher years ago, and all I can say is if you are referred to this guy, cancel and find someone else. He isn't compassionate, doesn't seem to know what he's talking about, and also double booked me. Was super fun waiting for 40 minutes only for him to give me 20 minutes of his time. He also clearly didn't listen to anything I had to say, as he was under the impression I told him my mother is schizophrenic. Where he pulled that from is beyond me. when we didn't even speak of my mother.
Clean, organized and professional facility!
The staff at the Royal Ottawa quickly recognized that I was hypomanic when I arrived in April... and what to do about it. They adjusted my medication and put me on a regimen that has kept me balanced since mid-April. Once I was an outpatient, I attended Day Hospital, where I learned things that will help me stay balanced. I cannot say enough good about the people who treated and continue to treat me there.
Perfect rehab for any reason or need
Best in Ottawa
Staff are excellent and caring! Food is not the greatest on the weekend, but it's okay on weekdays. Doctors here do a great job!
awful people
Dr Javaheri is the most incompetent awful doctor I have ever spoken with. I have talked to almost a dozen doctors in his field and he is BY FAR the worse. Do not come to the royal, they will not provide good service and especially do not talk to Dr Javaheri.
I have only been there for a sleep study, but everyone in the department is amazing. I look forward to seeing max in Dr soucy office. She always makes me smile???? Mitchell
I have nothing but good things to say about the Royal Ottawa. The staff is courteous and well attentive, they are very friendly and also very knowledgeable. The food is great (ecspecially there lasagna, its the only reason I come here) and its also very clean and upkept. As well the security staff is very professional and well mannered, they take there job very seriosuly which is what I like to see. Id give this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could! "Ps. The place is infested with ants and I'm pretty sure I know who their king is"
I had and still have problems with self worth but I am strong and am still fighting against abusers. As most of them were in my family, I have no credibility with out of them because the worst abusers are sick and unstable in my family so others support them even if they know they are lying. I saw a real good psychiatrist at the ROMAN who diagnosed me as having no psychiatric problem but I had been used and abused for too long so what I needed was a psychologist and since I could not afford one should join a group with the public mental health association. I knew people in the group in my area and knew personally that she was abusive and she went there for the perks. I could not do that. I am still struggling with some problems but at least I can ward off abusers but I have few friends. I am unable to accept help from the good people in my family but I have a couple of friends that give me moral support and a son that gives me help and two grandsons who love me. I will forever be grateful to that doctor and wish I could remember his name. Nicole Panchuk
Was a patient in the outpatient mood and anxiety clinic. Saw Dr Okibo. She was nice and caring, but she dropped me as a patient when I entered a crisis. Definitely was not happy with that. And these staff hold stigma against bpd patients so not a great experience considering they're mh care providers...

Got banned from seeing my boyfriend for hugging him in the lounge. The doctors weren’t there to make it liveable, they had no compassion for my boyfriend and they treated him negatively to bad news. He wanted to use the time productively but only let him exorcise every second friday.
Never had a great experience here . Visited friends being treated here and had family deal with this place. Definitely over funded burocratic nightmare. The problem might be the overwhelmed need for this place.the staff are my guess amazing but don't have the tools or staff to deal with the number of patients the city has.
I thank Dr. Pregal and staff for all the compassion and help when I was down on my luck and really at the bottom in the past.
Friendly, helpful.
By far the greatest service for someone misunderstood by his community. ...they are kind and will never use force except to help the person. ....extremely advanced people and they are most probably the only people you need if you are having financially trouble....I love them.....they should get paid more May the Supreme being bless and prosper everyone at the royal including in and out patients and psychiatrists and all nurses. ....I give them 5 stars
Friendly staff.
Enjoying a nice stay right now. It's very well run, staff are very helpful and caring, only the finest in medication. Beautiful, well lit private room with a big window. The food is a little bland, which is the only thing holding it back from 5 stars. I would, and may return.
This place is a life saver for the people they take in, we need more facilities like this one. If you suffer from addictions and can get in here grab on with all you've got and they will give you a chance at a new life.
Great Doctor's and friendly environment
Great staff! And Thank you for recommending us! We always have visits because of your amazing reviews. Thank you and keep up the great job.
Given that the Royal Ottawa Hospital is the only Hospital in Ottawa, that focuses on Mental Health as its main focus. I feel they are doing a good job! Mental Health is a tricky area. It has many facets, and the Royal attempts to touch on many areas and bring awareness and research. I genuinely feel there are many caring staff at this Hospital who have made tremendous contributions to amp up the awareness and level of care provided to patients suffering with mental illness and addiction. Aswell, they are supportive to the families, and inclusive in the recovery plan. I have been very pleased with my Psychiatrist, and other specialists I have worked with here. My psychiatrist has been a pillar for me in managing, and understanding my mental health. Everyone's experience is different. I respect that. But overall, I personally believe the ROH has made some huge leaps for those struggling, and is a safety net at times for many.
