Other than some of the cottages that are used by the Community the official RVH has been closed for some time. There are newer facilities on the East side of the grounds that's operated by FHA and occupied by residents. I gave it a 5 Star because the Riverview grounds is a park like setting. Very beautiful to stroll through in the Spring and Fall. It's such a shame that the BC Gov't past and present did not have the will to preserve this land. But I digress.

Waz wrkn there. Asbestos has been removed from much of the wrkn spaces. Still in the tiles and some walls. The trees there were donated from all over the world. Some were damaged and had to be cut down a few storms ago.The film industry has paid the lands alot of money to film there. Wish they would reinvest some of it to help some of the people still suffering with mental illness. That land was meant for them in good spirit and to help heal them into wellbeing. I dont think the spirit of that intention should ever be lost. That said still a few residents live there .Dont know how many. The grounds are really beautiful and it is a nice walk with lots of parking.

Loved everything about it. It was a quiet holiday morning in the fall. The sun was shining and the place was deserted. It was really interesting seeing the old buildings. Some restored and some not. Both had their appeals. The only thing I would have liked to see is some more information on the history. Something that tells a story about the place and the people who built it and what happened there.

Another location featured in the X-Files. The one building is sealed off and has become dilapidated over time. Nature is taking over some of the upper balcony. This building interest me the most and I wish I could have gotten inside. The other two building looked maintained but uninteresting. There was a smaller maintenance building. A truck was parked by the garage but we saw no people. It was getting dark so we used a flashlight to see inside beyond the door. Years of decay and peeling paint. Security drove by a couple of times and a film crew working in another area. The park is quiet and the old trees are overgrown with moss. This is the beauty of nature. We hung out for an hour or two, drove around, spoke with some residents walking their dog, checked out the mountains in the distance. As darkness settled, the more fascinating the one building became.

I often go there to work overnight, I have heard lots of horror stories due to this entire area looks abandoned and I believe it used to be hospital for mental health patients. There are lots of buildings, All of them are being used for filming. On my first night of work there in 2017 I was all alone sitting close to building like in horror movies. It was so dark and this building was looking like it was cold storage for dead bodies , This entire area is being monitored by SecuryGurd company. I had little relief every few minutes when their vehicles were passing through. I have worked almost on all buildings here. I have never seen any horror incidence nor I ever believe in horror. I still go to work there overnight and feel confident without any thoughts of those kind. Few teens can be seen walking around before 9 PM and few cars can be seen driving around before 10 , I believe either some people lives there or they come to work because I can see bus service running there. You can barely see any one after 10,11 except bus and security petrol.

I was working in and around the East Lawn building at Riverview. The surroundings on the property has many species of plants and trees from all over the world.

5 stars based on the creep scale and of course the wonderful tree specimens. Apparently each tree was planted over a deceased patient. Overtime the craggly branches would represent the web of neurons in the brain of a psychotic person. The trees were occasionally tapped for sap where it was consumed as an aphrodisiac at lavish secret parties. The qualities of the sap were similar to worm wood that became famous in the art district of paris at the turn of the 19th century.

Pretty cool place. Only fully abandoned in 2010 and now BC Housing owns it. There are quite a few security guards that drive around to ensure no one is taking photos or videos of the place, which we were a little confused about.

Really creepily beautiful place. Seemingly endless number of buildings you just want to go in and explore, with an atmosphere unmatched anywhere else in the lower mainland. I am glad they are reviving the mental hospital portion of this once misused land. The parking and driving requires some planning. Its pretty easy to get lost in here and go in circles, and be wary of the many strange stop signs. Residents often watch for people violating traffic laws and subsequently record licence plates and get people ticketed.

What a spectacular and beautiful piece of history, I so wish they still did tours.. for sentimental purposes. Absolutely gorgeous property to walk around, come prepared with a lot of time on your hands because there's a lot distance to cover and everywhere you look there's something that catches your eye. We went to Riverview hospital by accident. From colony farm side, this building looks spectacular and very quite. We decided to take look. Drove a while in the forest. Eventually got in. It looked stunning, but whatever also spooky. We didn't even know where it was. The buildings from far away looked amazing, but when got closed, the broken windows made me chill and kind of scare. The security car always around my car... So we couldn't stay longer for it. Then we saw emergency sign. this made us nervous due to covid period... Drove 2 or 3 circles, finally escaped, it was almost 9 pm in summer last year (2020). When got home checked online, then realized we went the place called "Riverview Hospital". lol

This is an interesting area to take a walk about or drive around (make sure you pay attention to the speed limit of 25 kph). There are many historical buildings. The roadways can be a bit of a confusing maze but a great conversation starter if you enjoy exploring history. This area has local bus route access as well.

Really quiet during the weekends, my kids and I love to go biking there. 9ld historical buildings that are rumored to be haunted, now used to film big budget and small budget movies like Deadpool. Lots of government ministries have their offices there like BC Housing, Corrections, Children's Ministries to mention but a few. Beware of wildlife in the area as well. People are not allowed in some areas after 9pm.

Even though the modern Riverview Hospital (the North Lawn Building) has been closed for a while, there are other health care facilities open on the Riverview lands. (e.g. nurses offices, Ministry of children and families etc various lodges on the lands, not to mention Sheriff's offices).

This site was a whole lot bigger than I was expecting before I went. I mean, I was expecting one building and there were many more buildings than that! It was just amazing seeing all the old buildings, and imagining the history that took place in each one of them. The architecture is phenomenal; buildings this old are rare in British Columbia. Security patrols the whole area; it's rare to be somewhere on the lot and not have a security car within view. Go here and take a walk around, taking in the views and maybe relaxing for a bit in the large, still-intact gazebo. Riverview Hospital is just an incredible historical site overall, I highly recommend checking it out!

I can't comment on what it's like to ba a patient but for photography opportunities this place is amazing. They also have a truly impressive selection of trees - keep in mind that photography is NOT ALLOWED without paying a fee and getting written permission. I've been stopped a few times when I've had my camera on me so be prepared to be harassed.

It's earie, and if there was not the asbestos issue it'd be the perfect place to shoot anything thriller and horror.... Light is swallowed by the darkness when you go to the basement and several people got the chills when they had to work on the top floor of the oldest (and now locked) building.... Really a great location to film even if you can barely see/hear any birds there......

Personal memories are sparked. Most of the old buildings are used by the film industry. Obviously, a lot of money is paid, but what's sad is, it doesn't look like any of it goes for restoration. If it did, one wouldn't see buildings falling apart. Many buildings have asbestos problems, so make it tough to be comfortable in them.

Beautiful property. Interesting people on the grounds. Glad to see that many of the cottages and Brookside are being used by residents. Unhappy about the new mental Health building currently under construction. This building looks like a prison with small windows. One main idea of Riverview was to provide natural light for the patients healing care plan which to me is part of celebrating humanity.

It's okay. The wifi is inconsistent, and most of the buildings are not wheelchair accessible due to steep slopes and gravel roads. The bus doesn't come very often and only goes in one direction. The good reviews on here are from people just passing through and taking pictures. No offense to that, but, it's not the full story and gives an inaccurate overall rating.

I was never a patient, but I have worked here for decades ! Film industry. I respect and love this facility. I hope it always stays. Nothing else like it. Shame the most interesting and morbidly beautiful unit is locked out and condemned. West Lawn. In the 90's we went all through there. It's also rumoured to be the most disturbed and haunted . I can see the possibility. . You can feel it in there too. The rest of Riverview is calm and beautiful. So much activity and healthy souls. This facility is an asset of heritage and usability.. I would come here any time, any day.

Although I haven't been to this area in a long while, it was very beautiful riding through on the bus. Never have actually been on the premises for any length in time, this area holds many secrets with very old buildings or what's left of them since BC housing took over the property. I did work for a bit at the other location across the highway and that is also very interesting to see the older buildings and learn some of the history. For the public's interest and to preserving the one old building that is famous for ghost hunting it should be deemed a provincial historical landmark incapable of being demolished or fixed in any way. It should be left the way it is currently for people to experience. Open it up to the public and stop being greedy for money since you have to be a film crew or a somebody to be even looked at to book it. It belongs to the people not you BC housing. Stop being selfish and let us in

Most people think Riverview is creepy (and it is), but I think it’s actually quite cool at the same time and I’d recommend people to at least drive through and check it out! The buildings are huge with high walls / entrances and are quite old. I’ve been lucky enough to work on some film productions here and been able to go inside, but the interior isn’t open to the public. There are some pretty creepy stories I’ve heard about Riverview (and maybe you can look them up online?). The history of the buildings is super interesting too and supposedly they performed lobotomies here back in the day.
