I hired Ms. Duncan of Duncan Investigations, Inc. of Winnipeg, Manitoba to help investigate a serious criminal matter. She asked questions that pulled information out of witnesses and suspects that uncovered significant information and led to establishing a solid defense. Many skill sets are necessary to be an effective Interviewer and Ms. Duncan has them all. It takes superior communication skills and the ability to quickly build rapport and put people at ease to make them want to talk. You have to have experience to be able to study the police reports and evidence and develop proper lines of open-ended but not too specific questions. You need the ability to quickly and strategically assess each answer given in the interview and decide if it is deceptive or truthful and where to take the next question. Sharp critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills are also necessary to then piece together what was learned into a chain of events to corroborate. Ms. Duncan has demonstrated all these critical skills in the many effective interviews she has conducted for us.
