On Jan 20, 2022 I needed urgent medical care so was driven to the emergency department. I was triaged and documented professionally and pleasantly. I was in a great deal of pain so was brought in quite quickly and attended to by a wonderful team of medical professionals. Dr. Tuba (sic) Dr. Kading, Hanna and all the crew (sorry I cannot remember all your names) provided me with the professional care I needed as well as instilling in me confidence I was in very goods hands. Thank you all, your the best John Kelderman
I’ve waited in this place for 10 plus hours a few times for different reasons, with roughly 3-4 people in the waiting room each time, this hospital has no mercy on people they won’t take you in unless you collapse, one doctor told me my throat was normal when I have a serious throat infection that won’t stop spreading. The diagnosis they give you is just luck of the draw they misdiagnose people all the time, my sisters friend came 8 different times and the 8th time needed emergency surgery go to a different hospital, I don’t know if there’s good doctors in this hospital because I’ve yet to see one. You will die if you depend on this hospital go somewhere else and there no way you’ll receive worse service
You guys rock!!! After all these months with the same constant pain, you've finally figured out what was wrong with me and are actually doing something about it... without you guys, I would have probably still been in alot of pain. So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart
Great staff, very helpful. Did not wait long.
Longest waits, people that work there hate working there, terrible bedside manner, poor diagnosis, had to argue for antibiotics for my child. Head to Truro or Antigonish
Never had any complaints ! Maternity floor staff are awesome , if there is any short comings it’s all to blame on lack of funding!
Lost our dearest one
Wait, wait, wait. Been told it's really busy when the er is mostly empty. Avoid at all costs. Drive to truro or antigonish if need be. This hospital is lazy and ridiculous!!!!!!!! Zero stars!!!
If I could give negative stars I would all you do is wait here, I was there for 5 plus hours with 1 other person waiting in the room and haven't been seen, Is the service worth the wait you may ask, no it isn't unless you're dying or taking an ambulance in go to somewhere else, because you will be waiting your life away for a possibly right diagnosis.
6+ hour wait every time anyone comes should be something done after all these years
I am super grateful for all the nurses and doctors and understand. But at 4 months pregnant and being told your support person (father of the child who had been to every single appointment) is no longer allowed in your appointments is a little more than upsetting. Especially when you are sitting in the waiting room crying because he cant be there for his baby....
had abdominal pain, possible appendicitis, a note from another doctor to try and get me in to be looked at, and still ive been here for 6 hours and havent been taken past the first waiting room. once waited with my GRANDMOTHER for 14 hours in the first room and another 2 and a half in the second. its faster to go to antigonish or halifax and get seen than to wait here.
I read the majority of the reviews people has posted,I have to go there on the last of Oct for an MRI,hopefully I get better treatment than some of the reviews. I certainly will post my experance after I return to Dartmouth,I will say one thing, the waiting period for an MRI is a hell of lot shorter than ,around Hfx,Dart. Area Nothing under 1.5 to 2 years. That,s my spin on it,will add more when I return
this place is awful. Took my gf in for her kidneys three times within the last month & they've done nothing for her. Shes in constant pain & is sick. Yet all she gets is "drink more water." Yet shes had two kidney infections this month. Save yourself the trouble and go to antigonish or halifax. The staff are very rude and just want to push people out. Would rate 0 stars if i could. They don't check their patients properly.
Suffering from an injury, Cant even return a phone call. Been almost a year.. Suffering.
Hospital. Good if you need medical attention. Increasingly longer wait times. Clean. Friendly staff is hit or miss, some are great and others should not work in a hospital.
My x ray was months ago, but a pleasant experience. The x ray requisition was changed at the last minute and they were able to accommodate for this.
(Translated) Terrible ER service (Original) Terrible ER service
To whom this may concern, Last August (2020) I went into the hospital suspecting I was pregnant and in desperate need of mental health services. 3 days after I had been told to go home by the staff at the Aberdeen Hospital, I misscarried because I was offered and provided no treatment of any kind. After I misscarried the staff would not allow me visitors ,did not provide me crisis support against my wishes and I was traumatized and sent home yet again. There was no follow up for mental health, little follow up for physical wellness and I contacted the hospital to explain this all before ,after the fact. Flash forward after the weeks following my misscarrage, I still received no mental health treatment until I went to the emergency department at the Aberdeen hospital in October 2020. After being seen by the crisis worker THE NEXT DAY, I had been referred to a psychiatrist in Halifax. This Doctor then gave me a severe mental health diagnosis and started me on a new prescription. 3 weeks after my initial diagnosis for Mental Illness i still have yet to be contacted unless its a phone call saying I will not be seen for a number of months ,however no one was specific and everyone mentioned the wait being over 6 months. Well now I have found out that I might be pregnant. And I am horrified of the notion of your hospital staff endangering my unborn child's life. But the level of clinical negligence I've received in the past 6 months alone is horrifying. Theyre not accountable.
Wait times are terrible. Several times I have left to go to Truro or Antigonish. Staff are way overworked, sometimes it shows through with short attitudes. Its a shame, wish more was inverted into this location as its very much needed.
Waiting to long
if you’re looking to waste your time this is the place. As this is the closest hospital nearby it’s been my only option multiple times. The emergency room isn’t emergencies only more like a cramped waiting room. The staff in the ER aren’t very nice, there’s been some who are lovely but others who were not fit for the job whatsoever. Was there earlier for fever and sore throat and instead they wanted to give me a chest X-RAY. I ended up leaving like I have multiple times in the past. Unless you’re looking to waste a minimum of 5 hours of your life just drive to Halifax.
Although a long drive from Dartmouth my appointment went very well and the staff were kind and helpful throughout my time there...
The good ol outdoor. Everyone in this town calls it this because you get better treatment.. outdoors. Personally I have always found this accurate about this place, I hate going there, for anything. If I do have to visit a hospital, I go to Truro or the nice one in Antigonish, they are only a short drive from Pictou county anyway. I do think though that their major problem is that they are under staffed, and no one wants to work there because the hospital deserves to be torn down and have a newer one built in its place. In short, avoid it and go some place better.
I've had great experiences here over the last year with various health issues. Beautiful, clean, new addition for emergency to help better triage and accommodate patients. Free wifi to pass time when waits get on the longer side. The issues that most people here are complaining about don't stem from the hospital itself but from the provincial and federal governments. If there's any finger pointing to be done it's in their direction. The doctors and nurses here work tirelessly and under great stress. I can see how it would be easy to place blame on them for poor care but please keep in mind that they are people doing jobs with heavy regulations.
If I could give it less of a rating I would This is the worst hospital I have ever had to use On average it is about 3 hours per patient in what is referred to as an emergency room They do not take patients in order of concern or status They do not monitor the area This is a place to go if you want to waste your time and feel worse then when you went in
4 hours now waiting to find out if i have a contagious rash. If it is i feel so bad for the other 35 people crammed in the waiting room with me. Also heard that there is only 1 Dr working at a time.
Very rude and slow, 2 days still not assessed
Dirty & outragious wait times. They are making some improvements but its longgggg overdue - if you can in my opinion go some place else.
Most staff are friendly. Wait times are outrageous. 6+ hours wait time in an empty emergency room. Not enough doctors, absolutely no mental health support.
I swear you enter a time warp in the emergency department. Bring your pillow, a blanket & patience.
Awesome staff!! The nurses and staff on the 4th and 5th floor went above and beyond to make the patient and family comfortable.
It's not Dr faults, it's nurse shortages. If you lazy millennials would get some training you'd have a gurenteed job, don't blame the Dr's, I was treated by by Dr Hayward and he is great, and Kevin in casts is helping save my feet. We have government issues and too many lazy people in Canada, is the root cause
I normally don't do reviews, but this is a special occasion. I had an MRI booked to which I was in 30 minutes early. I spoke to 4 staff members while being there, and each were very helpful and nice. I read the reviews on here and would say I was slightly skeptical, but this Hospital did a fantastic job.
I was admitted for surgery yesterday, and stayed 24 hours as an inpatient on the 4th floor. Being a nurse myself, I was humbled to be taken care of by my peers. I was treated so respectfully, and cared for in a way that touched my heart. From the staff at first floor surgery, to the surgeon Dr.O'Sullivan and anesthesiologist, Jill the OR nurse, and all the other caring OR staff. Sue Smith in the recovery room is a veru comforting nurse to wake up to as well as her partner in the recovery. The nurse picking me up from recovery and takimg me to my room. On the floor I was met by nurse Jeremy, and many other fine nurses. My cousin Victoria MacDonald was one of my very competent and compassionat nurses today. The food was delicious and nutritious, the housekeepimg staff was friendly and caring. I honestly cannot say enough about the wonderful care I recieved at ARH.
I had hip surgery with Dr.Boudreau in 2017. My experience at Aberdeen Hospital was very good. Staff were very helpful. Thank you.
I would give you zero stars if I could. This is the worst hospital on planet earth. Maybe instead of building a new emergency wing and garage you could have got some doctors or something. Sitting in a blue chair with a slipped disk watching you all stand around and laugh is 100% unacceptable. Figure it out b'y
The hospital services are not good. If you came in emergency than you have to atleast wait for 12 hours to get help from someone. This hospital is always short- staffed. I had really painful wrist and no one is helping out. Very bad healthcare system. Why you cant have more nurses on the people. Are the doctors gonna help people when they are counting there last breath. I have beening waiting since 12 hours and i am still waiting. I suggest people donot come here. Poor service. At the end i ended up waiting and going home. No assistance was provided since last 12:30 hours.
Good staff, I was always cared for but good luck getting to see a doctor. However, it's always understaffed and will close because there is no ER doctor. My wife had the unfortunate experience of poor care but a good doctor. She saw a doctor that beleives her issue and they weren't something to shrug off as "anxiety". She was supposed to get a monitor and was put on a waiting list for one. Then randomly took her off the list. She never got the care she needed.but that wasn't the ER dept's responsibility. Basically decent care if you can get in, if it's even open.
Nurses, the girl that works the triage and the girls at the desk were extremely rude. The waiting was over to get in to see the doctor was 5+ hours, then the rest of the time was about another 5+ hours. I watched people who needed the health care walk out because the waiting was to long. This hospital is absolutely horrible. Do not recommend coming here whatsoever, go somewhere else!
absolutely disgusting experience. if it is possible for you to go to another hospital, i would highly recommend it. appears as if staff has absolutely zero mental health training whatsoever. i was told my paramedics that a nurse would take my vitals and check bloodwork after suffering a severe panic attack. neither of those things happened. was placed under the mental health act yet received no care specialized towards mental health. was essentially told to shut up and take atavan, despite expressing i didn’t want to. subsequently had another panic attack and was given a second atavan and left alone. the majority of my mental health care was provided by the police officer who took me to the hospital. i was never told that i was being discharged (which apparently happened at 7am.) once i started to look for a ride, the nurse working at the desk was extremely rude, and grossly unqualified to deal with anyone suffering from mental health issues. was told multiple times that there were sick people who needed the beds more than i did, which is understandable, however blaming someone who is mentally ill for your lack of staff is extremely unprofessional and unethical. i came into the hospital feeling anxious and i left feeling guilty and depressed and - still anxious. if given the option, go anywhere else. wish i could rate it 0 stars.
If I could rate lower than 1 star I definitely would. Numerous people have been misdiagnosed for serious illnesses. You could drive to Antigonish with a broken bone, be cared for, head back home and it still wouldn't be as long as it would if you went to the Aberdeen.
I had a great experience at the Aberdeen Hospital, emerg wait time was average. I was admitted that day and had surgery 2 days later the nurses on my floor were excellent, Dr Sharma my surgeon excellent as well.
I would give this place no stars if giving the opportunity. I was a patient going in for a MRI and because of their error on the administrative side they actually turned me away. Can you believe that they are actually turning patients away. I feel very sorry for the people in the area that have to go there this place isan absolute gong show.
very slow service. over 10 hours wait. People with minor issues shows up and waste time. There should be a 1-10% fee for doctor consultation so that people do not carelessly show up. The system needs fix.
just keep driving to Halifax, they are dirty here. If you point it out they treat you worse, ignore you, or worse.
sat and cried alone in my hospital room at 4:30am listening to the nurses talk about their co workers and their lunch plans after being stuck there for 12 hours and being over tired, exhausted, and told you can’t leave until the doctor comes to give you the test results but you have no idea when that is. thanks.
A recent visit at the MRI department was outstanding! Very courteous, and caring staff that went over and above during my visit.I even got to wear scrubs, instead of the old traditional Johnny shirts, like elsewhere! Hospital was very clean from the front door and back. Very much appreciated after a 2.25 year wait with our broken medical system… I would still be waiting for the Infirmary in Halifax if, I wasn’t willing to go to New Glasgow. Subsequently, the results got me an expedited visit with an neurologist and surgery ASAP! Very grateful for an amazing staff during such difficult times!
I am very grateful to the staff at Aberdeen Hospital. After triage I was quickly brought in and, without going in to details, care was immediately begun. Multiple tests were run, and thankfully they continued looking for the source of my trouble until they found it. After half a life spent in pain undetected by other medical professionals, the doctors, nurses and staff at Aberdeen have given me hope and validation. I truly believe they saved my life that day, and I am so incredibly grateful.
I had a Hernia OP and I was looked after and cared for...very friendly stuff and Doctors were great...thank you
The ER seems to be a hallway with a line of tape across it that is not wide enough for any amount of comfort and offers zero privacy.
Great doctors and nurses supported us in the birth of our first child.
I attended the hospital yesterday morning. Waited 12 hours.Through it all I see this medical staff as struggling to get to everyone. I criticized like most while in waiting room but once inside you see just how busy this staff is.Hats off to this staff. You give your all tirelessly and little appreciation is given.Thank you for helping our area in such a difficult time.
Miss diagnosed twice as being completely fine, went to antigonish and I have heart disease... don't let these people kill you.
Completely usless emergency room, you are better off to dress up as a dog and go to a vet . Had an 11 month old child with a fever of 103 sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours.
