Fast Track Emergency clinic has some of the best & caring staff I’ve encountered compared to other hospitals in all of Canada. Thank you to all wonderful SAH staff.

Pamela Baxter

My 80 year old Dad has been in the hospital 3months and his Doctors, Physical Therapists & a COUPLE of nurses have been excellent with him, only because of my Mom constantly making sure that she's heard by them all!!! I LOVE you Mom ♡

They should get infants treated first instead of putting them on hold!

It is not based off one experience. This has been the most uncomfortable place I have ever been, including but not limited to, high school, court rooms, work, and strangers houses. Bed side manner does not exist. Just to be clear their are fantastic nurses and Healthcare professionals. SSM is a horrible place to be treated.

hannah berry

Emerg sucks Was never given the help I needed a few times and always have to sit and wait like 8hours for them not to even do anything about your issue. You'll get sick standing in there for less than 5 minutes and some nurses/doctors aren't nice or helpful. Sat there for 10hours once injured and still wasn't given the care needed. Don't recommend if it's urgent you'll spend your whole day waiting.

Adamn adissident

They will send you home to lighten their workload cause free healthcare makes it so..... Overworked and lack of care. Should be their motto. If you have a serious issue don't let them send you out the door.

After relocating to the Soo from southern Ontario not too long ago I was a little worried about the level of care we might receive in a "smaller community". Over the past few months both husband and I have needed the SAH ER services and both times we were well looked after. \---Side Note Fact: Friday, Saturday evenings are the worst times for ER self-admission for some reason (I'd rather not get into the issues not actually unique to the Soo) so my wait was an astronomical 11+ hours to get all looked after while in intense pain but not a triage priority with the limited available staff at the time---/ Since my ER visit I've recently found the need for other care related to newly discovered health issues and the flip side of poor care which seems to be prevalent in Ontario is UBER care, which is what I've now experienced with more than one medical opinion flying around about my condition(s) that hospital privileged on SAH professionals are trying to get me the best care they see fit. But I have to hold my hands up and back away, and let those specialists figure it out between their respective departments. As long as I get looked after I truly have nothing to complain about as they/we work together to get to the bottom of a successful diagnosis and treatment plan for me in the end. To the SAH, thank you for your services and compassion, and fingers crossed! I wish I could name names but I've simply seen, met with and encountered far too many super folks on staff (and from other area hospitals). It makes a world of difference as I undergo care.

Drank from fountain and my trachea became soar like it was crushed.

Hospital staff have been very kind and engaged (barring a small few), facility is clean, medical services are appropriate and exceeded my expectations, Food from the cafeteria is great when they're open/have stock, it would be greatly appreciated to have at least Tim Horton's open 24 hours. Parking can be tight during peek hours and the gates will open even if the lot is overflowed.

Angela Sawchyn

I thought the hospital I'm sudbury was slow nothing compared to what this hospital is like.. We have been now wait 8 hours for a doctor and still right now still hasn't seen anyone this place is such a joke and so disorganized.. not impressed with this place at all 2????????????

Chelsea Frazier

Hours and hours of waiting !!!!! Watched people leave, bleeding / in pain after 8 hours of waiting. Saw an elderly person with chest pains be told to wait their turn and to go sit down! RIDICULOUS!! Other people that were there after me were getting called in before my three year old son with a whole body rash!

Nice treatment....

Stayed for over a week right before the holidays. Every staff member I talked to was incredibly friendly and helpful, and professional, even despite the busy time of year. I could tell they genuinely cared. Thank you for making a stay at a hospital as liveable as possible. Thank you for the hard work guys.

Wizzle Esenwa

Spent 5 hrs just to see a doctor. If it's a serious case just forget about it

horrible place in the emerg. dept/some other areas in hospital. Some docs in emerg are good. Most nurses, not all, are terrible. go out of town to get treatment asap. thessalon hospital is not to far. get a specialist in sudbury, out of town , or toronto. if you need a lawyer cause of horrible or wrongful issues get one from ottawa

marissa vankoughnett

I've called the operators 4 times this morning to be transferred to diagnostic imagining and I've been hung up on each time, not impressed with the staff operating the phones,

Juniper Piper

Blindside their patients, refuse to include Patients in their own medical care or decisions. Been waiting over 24hrs to see a doctor.

Worst experience at a hospital. Offered literally no help in the 4 hrs I was there with very extreme back pain. In tears and everything, ended up leaving. Those poor workers need help and funding

Absolute incompetence mixed in with good people.

It's a sad state of affairs when this is the place for help. The staff work hard - to the extent of being overworked, cranky, rude and dismissive. I've had both my parents have Major surgeries, operations/procedures done, Both of which experienced complications with experimental Meshs/materials they had specifically asked NOT to be used, be used, and lead to major Quality of life impacts. Got a mental health problem, not a "physical one"? Feeling suicidal? Close to hurting yourself? Others? Well - You're better off looking elsewhere. Upwards of 10-16 hour waits for MH patients in crisis. You're likely to wait in a room alone too for about 3-4 after that. And, finally, be dismissed as if nothing is wrong about 70% of the time. Need proof? - Just look up the stories/articles on Sootoday or any other local news site about how many people have taken their life after attempting to go in for help and treatment only to have to wait, alone, half a day - or be turned down. They have excellent staff, both on the ends of receptionist, to the nurses and even the Doctors. But, Its so poorly managed, and they are incredible overworked it's hard probably NOT to be miserable late hours into the night. The hard working, good staff in place really do the best they can, but too often it's overshadowed by the first few Bad ones you encounter on the way in.

Bruce MacKay

I don't know if we have the best hospital system in the world, but the staff and volunteers at the Sault hospital are amazing. Hats off to a group of great people doing a tough job with not enough support from the government.

Jordan Lambert

I have strep throat and I've been here for 6 hours with the last hour and a half not even being talked too.

The intake person that asks you the questions entering the emerg 08/17/20 4pm has not once told anyone coming in to wash their hands before getting a number. This is unacceptable people arriving at the emerg area should be told to wash or use hand sanitizer before going any further. Whats the use if only to ask about symtoms, & if you been out if province. This is terrible, And unprofesional let alone dangerous behavior for a Hospital

Rezwan Tanvin

The nurse at the desk the emergency entrance door. She need to be let go immediately. I am a very patient person but she needs to go. The ambulance brought in my friend a patient who got into an accident with glass still in her hand. They are making her now wait in the waiting chairs as she is complaining about her back and has blood all over her body and face. I asked the nurse are you treating her as an emergency case because everyone around her where she is sitting are either visitors or walk in patients with a cold. Her reply was she will have to wait. I have been doing this for 30 years. As I am telling her this, she is on her personal tablet at work browsing sweaters on an online store. I am known among my peers to be very patient but I have given people priority when required. This is unfair. She does not deserve to be the front line of hospital at the emergency door. I am very upset with the extreme poor service she had to offer. Please Sault area hospital, do something about this. 2.03 am. She says the wait time could be 3 hours before someone see's her...She says this as she sees my friend with blood all over her face and knowing there could be glass inside her palm.

Came to the emergency room at 11:30pm. It's currently 7:30am. Been moved to 3 waiting areas and still haven't seen a doctor or nurse, just sitting and waiting. Husband's in a lot of pain (and bleeding) but not a doctor in sight. The website says 4 hour wait times, that's a lie. Worst hospital ever. UPDATE: A nurse finally walked into the room at 10:00am. We waited around to see a doctor whom came at around 12:00pm. We left the hospital at 1:30pm. They couldn't tell for sure what was wrong so they ordered some checks and booked us a follow up appointment (in 2 weeks). So in total, we spent 14 hours in the emergency room, if you're sick, you're better off suffering in pain at home than in an uncomfortable waiting room.

It's a nice hospital nurse takes good zare of their patients

My better half received excellent and compassionate care when he dealt with cancer.

The Sault Area Hospital needs to be cleaned better all there sprinklers in the building are covered in about an inch of dust your cleaning staff needs to do more than from the eye down if i knew who to contact in the fire department to let them know about that i would have done it already that's unacceptable...........

Had wonderful care from time admitted to being released.. wonderful caring nurses.

Had a poor experience with Dr Bodnar and nurse Deb In emerge. I'd suggest empathy training as a personal opinion. The lack of respect and professionalism was very unsettling.

Ryan North

It took some time in the waiting room, but it's like that everywhere. The nurses were pretty nice though.

I was on 1A gyno from June 19-June 23 2017, I received exceptional and courteous care during my stay. Every Nurse I dealt with was wonderful. 2 Thumbs up for the Maternity Nurses and Dr. Hergott.

Clint Aikens

Went here with terrible back pain couldn't move or sit up with out being and serve pain after hurting my back at work I went in the hospital with a wheel chair that nurses refused to help me when I dropped my wallet telling me it wasn't there problem when I asked for assistance in getting it and I saw Dr wild who didn't even exam and told me to take advil and to stop wasting his time I now may loose my job

Dana Pospisal

I arrived to ER as a person with a visible disability experiencing an unrelated acute condition. I was discriminated against, refused service/care and treated abusively from onset. Now we're going to go through the long drawn out process of litigation for violations to Human Rights and neglect of care toward a valid OHIP holder. These 'medical professionals' are cowboy doctors with messed up/obscene antics readily at their disposal and little understanding of the scope of care they're obligated to provide. I've never been treated so poorly in a medical facility in this country. Take video and audio footage and have a witness present. Go through the Patient Ombudsman or take necessary legal action. These animals belong in cages not handling life/death situations.

I recently spent almost two weeks in hospital after surgery, spending time in ICU and 3A. My experience was absolutely positive. There was not one incident with cause for complaint. From the doctors and nurses to all the people who came in to perform tests or give additional treatment, the care, kindness, compassion and professional friendliness was the best I have ever experienced in many hospital visits. Great measures were taken to address my specific needs re devices and mobility AIDS. All my questions were answered in detail and with patience. I never waited longer than two minutes when I pushed the buzzer and each nurse had a positive attitude and lots of patience. All my concerns were addressed.in a timely manner. My stay was difficult physically and several issues came up that had to be addressed and employees from many departments were sent in a timely manner to treat my needs. I felt that I was being treated as an individual and not just as a generic patient. I was seen as me. Thanks also to housekeeping, dietary and the porters. All were helpful and caring. Also, pre admission interviews and tests were thorough and all my questions and concerns re coming into hospital.were answered in detail. Again,, I am just so impressed with the care from the doctors and nurses and the many others who helped along the way. I also appreciated the efforts put into arranging home care for ongoing issues. I came home with continuity of care and that helped lessened worry and anxiety. Thank you for a wonderful experience throughout.

I honestly haven't been treated better by any other Healthcare than this one. The staff was so kind, the intake nurse was so incredibly nice, supportive, and caring, the registration nurse was personable, and the doctor was very caring as well. Amazing wait time and care. Great hospital.

They cant figure out what wrong with me and just send me home. Takes all night for one ultrasound result.

I think the problem stems from substandard health care and training through out Ontario. And my largest concern is, how is it that "health" and "healthy lifestyle"and "working together to build a healthier community" facilities such as hospitals get away with selling, serving and promoting the MOST UNHEALTHY foods..? With only a Tim Hortons with their sugary donuts, highly processed and high fat "junk" foods and there high fat, high cholesterol 18% cream, and a cafeteria that should be renamed to "The Heart Attack Grill". While there sign promotes *Fresh, locale, produce*, there are actually very little fruits and vegetables to be found. Pizza, bacon, eggs, cheese, burgers, omelettes, chicken, ribs, processed meat and cheese sandwiches, and even french fries that are DEEP FRIED IN BACON FAT.. Something that EVEN FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO..! And IF and WHEN vegetables are offered, they are slathered with high fat, high cholesterol BUTTER AND/OR CHICKEN FAT. Please refer to the Hamilton Health Sciences pdf. on the Portfolio Diet.. Portfolio Diet The Portfolio Diet is a vegetarian way of eating that combines nuts, plant sterols, fibre and soy protein. When eating this combination or “portfolio” of foods and nutrients everyday, it can: • lower your LDL or bad cholesterol. • lower your blood pressure. • reduce your risk for heart disease and stroke. • help improve blood sugar control.

Good place to be taken care of

Travis T-Bone

My nurse practitioner requested an upper G.I with diagnostics imaging. They got the request and scheduled me for an appointment. I made work scheduling changes so I could make the appointment. As I'm literally pulling into the parking lot (15 mins before appointment) I get a call from SAH. They inform me they're cancelling the appointment because it wasn't scheduled with a specialist. I understand that there is procedures to follow. But they should have caught that before they scheduled the appointment not 15 mins before. Very poor office administration.

Sarah Neveau

This hospital is by far the biggest joke ever. my husband die there due to there horrible care, constantly sending him home and shoving him with pills. Also they kept miss diagnosing him and it really pissed me off. He got the worse care possible. They have a lot of people fooled in to thinking they will be well taken care of when they come here for help with medical issues. But frommy experience you won't get proper help you'll get sent home as I've said and shoved with pills as I've said. If I were dying and I needed to go to the hospital you can bet I won't be going here not now not ever. I highly suggest everyone else do the same and go else where you'll be better taken care of

Gerry Bugyra

I went to ER on July 26th at 12:45 pm with chest pains and issues breathing. With chest pains, I was given a number from the Covid-19 check desk and told to find a place and sit in the corner. There was 15 others ahead of me. My chest pains worsen and when asked when I could get checked I was told I had to wait my turn. With that answer, I went home still with chest pains. Doesn't seem ER really cared about my condition.

Awesome hospital went in for a few sutures was in and out within an hour . A big thank-you to all the staff!

NANCY MAKELA

I was seen as an outpatient in the ER on Aug 26 and found it to be a very positive experience. I was seen by Alison the triage nurse very quickly and she was very kind, supportive and reassuring. I was next seen by Christine the ECG nurse who was again supportive and very professional. My results were back in a timely manner and I was then seen by Dr. Urquhhart who patiently answered all my questions and sent me off to continue my journey with important knowledge and warm reassurance that I would be OK. I am very thankful for smaller hospitals and the quality of care you receive in them.Thank you to all.

Avoid this place as much as you can. Go anywhere else, Sudbury, Toronto a local Vet. I would give it neg 5 stars if I could. The wait times are horrible. The nurses blame everyone else or policy for issues. I have had issues on many occasions. I had an eye injury. Was in extreme pain. Waited 4-5 hours for a Dr to see me. The Dr couldn't fix the issue. He looked drunk. He almost fell over. He sent me to a specialist. Went to see him the next day. The specialist had the issue resolved in 5 mins. The specialist was on call at the hospital that night and wasn't called. Another time I went into the E.R. the Dr had me make an appointment with another dept. Went to the appointment and waited 90 mins to find out the receptionist forgot to pass on the file to the Dr. Same issue with another patient before me. Had another appointment in same dept another time. Who ever booked the appointment set up the wrong procedure! Calling the hospital is a nightmare. They transfer you from one dept to another and no one answers the phone.

Bob Barnes

Way to ruin a joyous occasion!!!! Making family sit at tim horton's. No family Waiting room in the maternity ward. Drove from london to enjoy the birth of our first grand daughter. Only to get text message updates on progress. Could have stayed home for that type of information. Only in Sault Ste. Marie, glad we don't live here anymore.

Paula Newton

Very polite and professional people I'm a long haul driver and feel ill coming through the Sault ended up needing an operation the nurses and doctors at this hospital are nothing short of professional the care they provide is above and beyond. Hope it never happens again but if I ever need medical attention again on the road I sure hope I'm in the Sault

Between this hospital and the clinics it's a wonder the entire city hasn't died what a joke.

On October our 4 year old granddaughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Having her drive the little car into surgery is one of the best ideas the hospital has come up with...No stress and no tears.

Was seen on an emergency basis today. Within an hour I was in the chair and the service was exceptional.

A C

Extremely slow every single time I have to go into the emergency here it it's at least 8 hours minimum no matter what it is for! last time I accompanyed a family member who came in with stroke symptoms and it took 5 hours too just see a doctor 5 hours! I understand how busy it is and there is a hierarchy of needs but absolutely shameful in an emergency situation doctors should be seen with in the first 1-2 hours

Wait, wait, and long wait, nothing else,,,, if anyone have not much serious issue does not mean have enough time, staff should follow FIFO.. I entered and register here on 12.30pm but my doctor came to see me after 4.30. 4 hrs wait for minor allergies,

Pat story

My elderly husband has been in SAH for about one month and looking at probably 3-4 weeks to go.......he is almost 80 and I am (I was a `child bride`) almost 57.......we have been a number of hospitals in southern Ontario over the years......SAH has the best staff.....the best facilities......the best food.....the best volunteers and the best parking (I know of what I speak.......walking long distances to access doors from parking lots and paying between $15.00-$25.00 for the day (4 hours or more).......I love SAH and all the staff and everyone involved.......may not be everyone`s experience but this is OUR experience!!!!! We have been in emergency, 3A, 2B, OR, and associated peoples......oh.....and I am a retired Registered Nurse of 29 years experience!!!

Amy Rader

I didn't know that u can come into the emergency and be put into a room sit in there for 1hr and half hours for them to say oh this area closes this doctor is done for the night so were gonna move u to another area to sit again for another hour grrrr

This is by far the worst hospital I've ever been to. Some of the nurses are extremely rude, to opinionated. I've seen nurses label patients which is awful. They were not treated with respect, dignity, empathy. I knew one of the patient who put in a complaint and of course never heard back. They look at you and if your not dressed the right way or look a certain way....yes they do label you right there. I felt horrible for this friend of mine as I know how embarrassed she was and when it was done she left in tears. They assume things when they were completely wrong. Most doctors are very helpful. Other doctors are just like the nurses. Please send them to courses that teach them about EMPATHY, BEING COMPASSIONATE , TRYING TO BE UNDERSTANDIND, KIDNESS, AND MOST OF ALL THESE NURSES/DOCTORS NEED TO STOP LABELING. THIS IS A FORM OF ABUSE. THE HOSPITAL HAS A MISSION STATEMENT BUT CANT SEEM TO FOLLOW IT THEMSELVES. SHAME ON THE NURSES AND THE DOCTORS WHOS MADE ANY PATIENT FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. IT'S UNFORTUNATE AND VERY SHAMEFUL!

joe jo

Understand COVID is here and precautions are made. When a loved one is in the hospital no matter what they should be allowed a family member to be with them. They have the proper gear to keep everybody safe. No reason in Canada should a loved one go thru issues by them self. Shame on Canada. Also 15 dollars for 24 hrs of TV. Licensed to steel. 6 dollar parking. They make over 150000 dollars a month ont their 50 50 draw and we still have to pay 6 dollar parking. Somthing is wrong here.

Eve Lux

PLEASE READ The stars are for the doctor and few nurses. I was there at the beginning of December with the same complaints. I was given an antibiotic that seem to work for about a week and a half. Then symptoms came back. I'm alone here with children so for weeks I've been in pain/sick for a month in a half. I did not get professional help because that meant bringing my children so I endured pain for weeks to ensure my children's safety. My mother drove many hours to help me. The doctor was truely amazing. Took his time responding to my questions. He was delightful, kind, compassionate and truely nice. I asked someone at the nurse's station when I would be next to receive something threw my IV as I was in pain and did say, "I just want to go home". I wasn't rude in any way, but I had been there so long and just wanted to go home. I was told I should be next and I was fine with that, I wasn't trying to rush anyone. Then this nurse jumps like she owned the place after it was dealt with already. She was extremely mean, her body language was angry, she showed no compassion what so ever!! She had dark long hair with tattoos. Working in the emerg department on the evening of Jan 14. She was really unprofessional, That is a form of bullying. Shame on you!!! You have no clue about what I've been threw. You did not care. I stayed in my room and started crying, I couldn't believe how I was treated, I couldn't hold my tears back. The nurse who gave me medication threw my IV was very nice and I can tell felt bad. I also had a few nurses apologize on her behalf. I hope the nurse with the long dark hair in a pony tail with tattoos that you review your mission and values. Mission *Exceptional people working together to provide outstanding care in Algoma. Values *Integrity We say what we mean and we mean what we say. *Compassion *We show concern and care for others. Collaboration & Partnership We promote teamwork. Accountability We are answerable for our actions and decisions. *Respect We care about the well-being, dignity and uniqueness of everyone. *Excellence We deliver our best every day and encourage. You failed in so many ways!! I'm sure I'm not the only one. You made my visit to be so uncomfortable, I was embarrassed and had been sick for many, many weeks so yes I was sensitive at the end. It won't make me want to go back just to be humiliated again. I envy and salute all doctors and nurses who have put themselves out there on the front lines to help, that dedication, remarkable. Please remember so many families are struggling also, children are being affected. We need more compassion and empathy now more then ever.
