Bad experience overall. Customer service was not open and the website was down. The staff that answered the phone told me they were not allowed to use Google to tell me other locations I could go to. I was in a life threatning situation and they chose to NOT help me.... Its just a profitable company that takes from everyone and gives back NOTHING. Hope they go bankrupt and quit killing patients. When the PRESIDENTS office called over my complaint, they told me there was nothing they could do about it. Sad that they don't care from the highest level
Every time I have been to AGH or an AHN affiliate or branch I have received top notch care and service. I'm not going to say there haven't been little inconveinances along the way it the care is amazing. They literally saved my life and did it with grace. McGinnis cariovascualar thoracic associates is top notch. Home health care was amazing too. I can not speak highly enough about them.
My nurse was lovely for my booster vaccine, but some staff in the room were refusing to be masked. Bit alarming
Drove my roommate here because she was exposed to a lot of natural gas at her internship. She was evaluated, confirmed to have toxic levels of gas in her system, and then left to wait unaided for a room in the ER to open up. Absolutely ridiculous. I was not expecting to have to worry for my friend’s life when she should have gotten oxygen and was released within a couple hours. It’s been over 2 and she hasn’t been taken to be treated.
Fast care, excellent service
I wouldnt trust them to care for puppies. Apparently beware as another hospital routinely sends patients here. Nearly 6 hours into our ER visit and clearly no one can do their jobs, or read, or function. My gf was sent here from altoona as a transfer and was diagnosed there. We have been here so long that she is actually better and the obstruction is gone and they still won't let us leave.
Trying to get a billing statement, in a timely manner is like pulling teeth. But when it falls in the past due, they are quick to turn to collections.sat at my fax all day waiting on a fax they claim they sent. But I never received. I get better service at the VA Hospital than here. Some way to treat a Vet.
Been here through the ER and for Opthalmology. Fantastic nurses, doctors, and technicians. A hospital visit is a hospital visit, but strictly speaking on the experience with all involved in my stay and making me as comfortable as possible, AGH excelled at provided care.
They won't allow my friend to visit his dying mother. Absolutely unbelievable inhumanity happens here.
Trauma ICU nurse. Very unprofessional instead of a update on a family member. She called yelling at me, berating me like I was a child. Telling me blah blah going on. Telling me I needed to wait for an update. Was it alright with me that blah blah was going on ! The lack of respect was the worst. Then even a Manager gave excuses for her. No apology. I realize XYZ is going on but I had nothing to do with that. To call someone and act like that is wrong!
Both nurses and doctors were excellent and diagnosed me very quickly. They were also very gentle and caring, especially John & Tariq. I went in the morning and I waited less than 5 minutes to be attended to. Thank you guys !!
Great care by all. Compassionate and eager to help. Could be cleaner in older areas. The place is huge. Signage is clear.A wonderful job to keep this hospital system on the cutting edge.
8 hours for what was supposed to be an xray and mri with the orthopedic doctor turned into an overnight stay for a mild infection in the hand it constantly got bounced back and forth between doctor's with real answers as much as people bash Natrona heights hospital your better off going there then here cause this place is a complete joke and should be completely restaffed and try again unbelievable
While I did have to wait for a bit. It’s important to understand that with a level of care comes time. When I was taken in I was in so much pain I was in tears. The staff was amazing. Chris came to see me first then mark the RN did my blood …
I have had only bad experiences at this hospital. Some of the nursing staff are rude. Be expected to pay for your parking for any visit and they were charging facility fees even to in network patients that come out of your pocket. --- just show the green.
Horrible place don’t go unless you have to Super dirty
My grandpa had his liver transplant here and it saved his life !
Had surgery here and stayed one night. Everyone did what they could do for me. Food is good and staff very good. Like everything they need to attract satisfy and retain more nurses. Easier said then done as we know. Dr Schuyler is a great urologist and helped me get back to normal. The nurses have longevity from what I experienced.
As with most hospitals I have visited for various reasons I always find the staff friendly and helpful.
Great doctors great personalities and they put me back together again
The care is very SLOW. No rush to help at all!!!! If you’re not there advocating for your loved one you can forget about good care. You even have to point out that the patient has soiled herself. Even then they don’t hurry. I swear people get sicker in here.
I was lost in the hospital and confused after dropping my friends off at the ER. The security guard at the emergency room waiting area was extremely rude to me and didn’t offer any help.
It is a ridiculous hospital they will do surgery in u send u home and then not call you back or return phone calls they just want money
I had surgery here and they were very attentive and the doctor was excellent. I have 7 doctors here. I am an army veteran and have been in a wheelchair for 7 years, moving around for a while now to 5 different cities and out of all the hospitals I've been to this is by the best one I've been to overall. While I could not pick on little things or certain people, every thing they should get right they did and every time I've been there for out patient procedures, for doctors appointments, and for surgery they've been helpful, informative and clean. There nurses are top notch, and while, like all hospitals, they could use a refresher on their own little policies like updating their name board to remind you who they are, they are friendly, almost always there, and the doctors are excellent. I even had excellent help when I had to call because I thought I broke a stitch when I got home and they gave my great advice.
I've spent 50 days on 1 of my visits and 21 surgeries and best care in the world and recommend highly
I went here as a caregiver to look after a resident. The nurses and staff were ACTUALLY super cool and chilled out. Really a good place.
If you want adequate Healthcare DO NOT I say again DO NOT go to AGH... Not just because of the hours wait time just to be seen by an ED doctor (something AGH has been known for- for decades) .. or the Wild Wild West as far as leadership, regulations and what protocols to follow and when (which I will get back to). AGH Specialists who ignored the concerns of their patients- that eventually led them to emergency surgery due to a horrible infection and loss of an organ. It could have easily been prevented if the Doctor actually reviewed the case instead of dismissing all the symptoms. Fast forward to EMS rushing that patient for care- at no time (from ED to recovery) did AGH staff notify patient emergency contact. After finding out family was rushed in from neighbors (the next day) We were given the run around from staff on the status of the patient. We eventually had to call the Fellow on call as well as Surgeon on call to have them page (mind you patient family not hospital staff thought to do so). Now I completely understand having stricter visitors protocols since the pandemic- yet it seems each shift, employee.. has their own rules. Some will allow a handful of people up to the dept waiting room- while others will only allow 1 upstairs and state "don't care if they have a waiting area, everyone can wait down here, their car, wherever but that area" ... regardless if there are signs in the waiting room stating the hours we can be in there (updated after pandemic) So does the hospital make the protocols or is employee ran? So in summary AGH preventative Healthcare failed, Emergency dept failures, hospital staff and security failures- no leadership, communication and lack of quality care. Do yourself a favor and switch Healthcare systems- you may just save an organ by doing so.
A pretty awful experience and pretty much incompetent staff. Multiple times, I was not made aware of what was going on, then treated like I was stupid when I asked what was happening. I was not told the drug I was being given until after I asked. I was in the hospital for a completely medical condition, and a doctor full-on insulted me when I told her what I did for work. I wasn’t given the proper medication, was treated like a child and extremely inappropriately, and my tests were FORGOTTEN and ignored by staff. Do NOT go to any AHN related hospitals if you actually need medical help. They might forget about you.
Emergency room with no urgency to treat diabetic patient in Keto asidosis crisis. Staff more concerned about where you parked your car. Sent Family member who was speaking for semi conscious patient to wait in a waiting room to be called in an area that had no cell phone service to get a call
My family member was admitted here earlier this week. This hospital is pretty nice. All of the doctors and nurses have seemed really friendly. It has a nice cafeteria, and the charging stations for your phone in the lobby is very useful. My family member got the best possible care that he could get. Definitely recommend.
Been doing the ED from 5:30 am it’s now 9:03am. I have yet to be seen.
Both male nurses I had did not do things the way they were supposed to. Tried to give me medicine I was not to have. The other, when opening a pill to give me, tried to dig the pack open with a paper clip as I watched the little pellets in the capsule roll along the floor. The capsule is supposed to be taken whole & unbroken. Catheter bag came loose when sitting up in chair. Told the one, he passed it to the evening nurse who said they cannot come loose. Put me in bed and it leaked all over bed. First time he went for someone in charge. She was so angry. Whole stay was awful.
The AGH staff took excellent care of my family member. The team provided me with regular updates, and as a medical professional myself, I was grateful that the doctors and nurses spoke with me about test results, treatment protocols, and recommendations during my family member’s hospitalization (I am on the patient’s ROI for HIPPA). The transition to home was also well organized and went smoothly. My family member is doing much better now, and I attribute this in large part to the high level of care that was provided at AGH. My family member will be switching from another provider to outpatient care within the AGH network for follow up, because we were so happy with the experience there compared with other practices in the area.
I was transported her because I was in a car accident. Head on collision! The other guy’s car flipped over. I had a piece of glass in my eye. No one removed it. Not the ambulance attendant, the nurse, the doctor. I had to get it out myself. I never received first aid for my wounds. I had to ask them if I could get my eyes rinsed because glass and glass dust had shattered all over the car. I was in so much pain I could not even walk. The doctor said he was going to get me something stronger than Motrin, but never did. They didn’t even give me a prescription for any pain medication.
My wife had been a patient here recently, and the staff and service is terrific. She was treated with great care, respect, and humanity. Highly recommend this a hospital of choice here in the Pittsburgh Area.
My mom was on the 8th floor. They gave her C-diff then told her she needed to control her bowels. She just had a colostomy bag reversal and got infected then the nurses treated her like dirt. She overheard one talking bad about her and complaining, they argued over who would clean her up, they laughed at her. They let her sit in her own feces that she couldn't control for over an hour more than once. They laughed and belittled her, rolled their eyes at her, told her to get herself to the bathroom when she couldn't even get out of bed. I'm seriously considering contacting a lawyer at this point because not only did she not receive the care she deserves, she was TORTURED. She's a CANCER patient. This facility should be ASHAMED.
Every time I visit AGH. I'm always happy with my results. I told them I fell like Norm from the show Cheers It's a welcome feeling
amazing looking new renovations.
My Mom was brought from Somerset Hospital to Allegheny due to a stroke. The staff was very attentive to all her needs. I was quite impressed with the level of care she received. The only down side was her roommate's visitors that were quite loud and obnoxious for hours on end.
Update: lowered rating to one star. This hospital is a complete joke. You can confirm twice on an appt. drive three hours just to be told it’s cancelled after fasting 12 hours. Now I get to drive three hours home because their staff is incompetent and cannot do their jobs. Don’t expect to get questions answered prior to procedures either. You won’t. Just do what they say or else they have no time for you. They don’t listen to patients either so unless you don’t care about your health I would go anywhere else. BETTER OFF AT A VETS OFFICE.
The new hi tech oncology unit at AGH on the northside is all but a waste of money they shove the cancer patients down on zero One in the back it reminds me of a morgue there’s no windows to look out all you can do is look at the patient across from you. You cannot get any Internet connection there’s no color in the color scheme the oncology nurses are running around like chickens with their heads cut off it is a horrible experience!
When I got here for my appointment I was frazzled because I thought I was familiar with the area. I needed to be in the professional building but wound up at the valet parking. I knew I was way off and didn’t mind the walk to the other side. I’m rating 5 stars because the cashier/information at the front, I believe his name is Michael, he not only gave me the best directions (seriously normally I would have gotten so lost) and then he even helped me when I had trouble paying outside with my card at the parking payment since it wasn’t working properly. The entry way was kinda hectic with patients and new COVID measures and some people were a little gruff, I didn’t see clear directions on the new protocols, but Michael was so sweet and helpful. When he told me to make a left at the green dinosaur I knew I could trust him! Thank you again so much for helping me!! Seriously. My anxiety was high just dealing with everything so for someone to treat me with respect and not like I am a total air head; meant a lot. Thanks you and God bless!!
As I am sure there are very good people working at this hospital, we have poor experiences here, unfortunately. This hospital WAS a reputable facility at one point. At the time of this review, I have a family member there who recently had a minor brain surgery and has been repeatedly told by aides, who shouted in her face, to "do it yourself!" when she asked for help. She is recovering from a surgical procedure on her BRAIN. It is sad that she had to remind them that she would ask for help if she could do these tasks herself. A call to the hospital led to a rather disappointing conversation with the "hospital administrator" who, at first acted as though she had no idea why I called and when I asked her if she did know, she said "something about your father," even though she knew it was for my mother, carried on with a condescending attitude geared toward pulling me into an emotional confrontation rather than a discussion about resolving the problems and hung up on me. Apparently she did not like being questioned about why the situation hasn't been addressed when she herself admitted that she spoke with my sister days before. We will see how this ends. If it becomes a satisfactory situation, I have no problem amending my review. Families of patients should never have to tell a hospital administrator to do their job before action is finally taken. UPDATE: I also found out my mother still had dried blood in her hair DAYS AFTER THE PROCEDURE! This disrespect of my mother and, so far, everyone who has been to the hospital on her behalf will not be taken lightly. Rest assured, we will pursue every avenue possible to have this resolved as it should be in a "world class facility." I will say, the operators I spoke with were very caring and did their best to help me find resolution and I am thankful for their patience!
The Doctors are very Educated.
Dr Baber is Wonderful.
My wife had a total hip and joint replacement. And, we stayed the night last night. And, I have to say that the doctor's and the nurses were excellent. The 10th Floor nurses, were so kind, friendly, and helpful. Thank you to everyone for your service and kindness.
From 11pm till 2 am haven’t been seen no sense of urgency and lack of consideration.
Please don't go to this hospital. Poor management of patient by doctors on Neurology floor. Nurses do not attend when called. They turn off the call from their station and don't check with patient. It happened 3 times in 2 days. …
This hospital was amazing.... I have sever constipation and finally someoem offered me fluids, duh. Lol thanks guys. Im already farting :-)
I was transferred here from Grove City hospital. What a horrible experience. They are apparently severely understaffed. Nurses' calls were routinely ignored. Both my roommate and myself waited for nurses who never came. I was supposed to be discharged but my daytime nurse went home and the night nurse arrived late. I waited for an hour for someone to answer my question about discharge and my roommate waited for an hour for someone to empty her surgical drains because there was apparently NO nurse on the floor to take calls. Seriously? I finally went in my hospital gown and iv stand to the nurses' station to ask why no one had responded only to be told by the one and only nurse there that she had just arrived. God only knows what would have happened if anyone would have had a serious emergency. If this is the best Pittsburgh has to offer, I'll take my chances elsewhere.
My son was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and was life flighted to AGH. I was happy that this is were he was being taken, as my past experiences with AGH for myself and friends who have been at AGH were great! However, this time around my experience was HORRIBLE. Due to COVID-19, I was made to remain outside of the Emergency Department for 6 hours, unable to see my son. I wasn't even permitted to enter the hospital to use the restroom. There were Porta-Potties in the parking lot (gross), no shelter, no vending machine or a way to even get a drink of water. When I was able to finally see my son that night, the Nurse that was handling the "COVID-19 screening" was RUDE! The "COVID-19 screening" was a complete joke!! Had to stay outside for 6 hrs, due to COVID, but all they did to "screen" was ask the following questions....are you experiencing a cough, sore throat or fever, have you or anyone close to you tested positive or are waiting results of COVID testing? Really.....a hospital is not even taking temperatures???? My son was admitted and was in AGH for two weeks. When I was able to see my son during visiting hours, nurses would come into his room and not even speak to me!! I would ask questions about my son's injuries and no one had an answer, they would literally say "I don't know" and wouldn't try to find an answer for me either. My son's right shoulder was shattered and his left arm was broken, so he was not able to use either arm for at least the first week, all he was able to move were his hands and not very far. If the nurses would come in to his room to check his vitals...etc, they would move his call button and his pain medication button out of his reach. He had his cell phone in his lap and was able to use his hands enough to use it, thankfully, to actually call the hospital to get a nurse to come assist him, since he couldn't reach his call button. When he was able to use his call button, it would take up to five minutes for someone to answer and when someone from the nurses station did answer it they were RUDE and most times it would take 10 to 20 minutes for a nurse to show up. No one offered to help him get cleaned up, wash his face, brush his teeth...etc. I'm grateful I was able to be there everyday during visiting hours or he would not have gotten any help with those things. Apparently some of the nurses did not even know what his injuries were, meals would be brought in and just set in front of him... He could not use either arm and had to be fed! One nurse was going to grab his shattered shoulder to roll him onto one side, he had to stop her and tell her that his shoulder was broken!! An alarm on his IV machine would go off ALL the time, it was a VERY loud & was enough to drive one in sane!! That alarm would go off for sometimes 15 minutes before someone would come tend to it. I actually recorded it with my cell phone one night, I called the nurse to have someone come in to tend to it, after 11 minutes of no one responding, I asked a nurse who was sitting in the hallway to please come and turn it off (she was sitting out there the whole time and could hear it), she did come in and turn it off, his nurse never did come in. The alarm was so loud and was not only disrupting my sons rest/recovery, but every other patient in his hallway and his roommate!! One of the nights I was visiting, no one had been in to check his vitals in the three hours that I had been there and when I kissed his forehead, he felt very warm. I had to go find a nurse and ask for someone to take his temperature and sure enough he was running a fever!! While my son was in the hospital for those two weeks he underwent four surgeries. I asked that before EVERY surgery, if someone would let me know what time his surgery would be and if they would please call me once the surgery was completed. No one ever called. I missed out on visiting hours with him, because no one EVER called!! Also found out through a friend that you can purchase a parking pass for 6 days for $10, AFTER I had paid $16 per day! I could go on for days....
These people on 10th floor are very good to us and i want to thank them very much also
Very professional staff. Loved my nurses. OR staff is a awesome. Can't say enough good about Dr Leonardo.
I have been under the care of Dr H. Williams, surgeon, who on February 8 2016 performed a Whipple procedure. I am coming to the end of my care with Dr Williams and his staff and I would just like Allegheny General Hospital to know how grateful I am for the care I received at your facility. I was treated with such care and compassion throughout my initial consultation to the removing of my feeding tubes. The entire surgical staff is as well as the floor staff during my stay the finest in have ever encountered. Thank you, Denise E Shuma
The staff is absolutely terrible! Rude, not attentive, sassy. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome during my stay and was treated very poorly the entire time! All of the nurses and staff need to realize they literally are working for us and show some respect! I feel bad for the elderly people and the handicapped people that are not able to voice their opinions! I am extremely worried about the care of the patients at Allgeneral General Hospital! The only decent thing I will ever say about that hospital is that the nutrition ladies that brought up some of the most terrible food I have ever eaten were very kind. ALL of the nurses need a reality check! I'm truly not a spiteful person but I hope karma comes around on them hard!
The emergency care in the ER was fast and great. Doctors throughout my stay were expeditiously treating me. However, once switched to intensive care unit extremely disappointed. Never had a choice on a meal. They kept telling me they forgot. Opps... but still didn't take my next meal request. I am not sure who dropped the ball if it was the nursing staff or food services but I complained to both and all got nothing. Horrible experience. I was here for dehydration and they wanted me to increase calories, but tried to feed me garbage and no choices. To many choices in Pittsburgh to ever go back to this hospital, unless it was life threatening and they were closest hospital.
When you call to make an appointment with a doctor, you are put through to a call center. That call center schedules for all of the doctors in the hospital. I called to see if I could get an earlier appointment as I was having breathing problems. It was determined by the call center to set me up with an Interventional Oncology Pulmonologist. I explained that I already had biopsies and that I have non cancerous granulomas. I just needed a Pulmonologist. The call center person said she would have a nurse call me since I have a lung mass, I should see Oncologist . I then reiterated I already had biopsy results stating no cancer. The nurse of the Pulmonary doctor I was originally scheduled to see called me. He assured me that this doctor will be a good fit for me and that she is also a Pulmonologist. I explained I already had biopsies that are negative for cancer. I was dissuaded from seeing the doctor I wanted to see. ( I won’t go into all of the details of that ridiculous conversation). After weeks of waiting for my appointment, my husband and I were put in an exam room with very little air conditioning. The MA took info and said that we would be seen first by a Fellow. We waited a very long time. The Fellow stated that he and the doctor looked at my disks and were confused. He stated that it looks like you already had biopsies and don’t understand why we were there. I should be seeing a Pulmonologist. This is where you would come if you need to have biopsies. So people that answer phones at the call center determine what doctor you should see based on their opinion. Scary right? I never did see the doctor that I had the appointment with because we waited another 45 minutes and decided to leave. My issue is the “system” of the call center and the nurse. Maybe if I had seen the correct doctor, things would have been wonderful. AGH has a lot of work to do if they want their patients to have a good experience. A person answering phones should not be making life altering decisions for patients. The office has done their part to try to “ make amends”. Right now I do not think I want my life in the hands of a scheduling department. Thank you for reading about my experience. Lynda Ravita
Best hospital in Pittsburgh! The care here is beyond compare. Great physicians, nurses, nursing assistants and environmental services people! Are treated with the utmost respect. Food is delicious too! Highly recommend this medical facility.
My mother is almost 80 (Sept) and needed to go to the emergency room. While there people had been here since 3pm and it was currently 7:48p. Can anyone explain this deplorable circumstance? In the mean time a man can in who had a steel beam hit his head and he was bleeding, but was told to have a seat. Really! I bet the insurance information will be billed ASAP, but a service emergency patients should receive is poor. In this day and age ER should be staffed and efficiently run. People should not have to wait hours just to be moved back to be seen, where it will most likely hours there, too. If this wasn’t the only option within close range of my 79 year old mom’s house I would never have her come here again. This is more like a slaughter house cattle line than patient care. In 2021 you would think things would be better. I could understand if the ER was packed to the max and not just 6 patients. So, AVH must have either the slowest patient care or no real care to be efficient. Thank for nothing…AVH Please do BETTER!
If only I could give this hospital a -100. We’ve sat in the ER for 4 1/2 hrs SO FAR. We’ve yet to hear anything. We’ve asked for an update and get told “I’ll check”. We’ve had to explain to 6 people why were here. All while the ER staff sits and laughs and jokes. My father had surgery at this facility and when we went to visit him there was one of his bloody gauzes sitting on a table, blood on his blanket and he didn’t receive a bath for days. Go somewhere else if you need treatment.
Horrible!!!! Arrived in the ED at 4:30, now 8:10 and have not seen a doctor yet. Not everyone is wearing their mask properly. No one ever asked who's vaccinated. People much closer than 6 feet all over. Two tvs on different channels and on the loud side. They just yell out names and have no clue who's who. Stay clear of AHN. This is pitiful and disgraceful. Money over healthcare for sure.
Staff is very condescending. I've sat in the ER on a few different occasions and listened to staff talk badly of patients. Extremely unprofessional.
I chose AGH based on the belief of excellence, but I was sorely disappointed. After arriving at the trauma unit, 3 hours went by with no word on how my child was, even though I was told I would receive texts from a social worker. Once I was brought upstairs, 5 hours went by with no word from a doctor. I was then sent home for the evening with no information except, what time I could return in the morning. Thankfully, the next day on the pediatric floor, a nurse was kind enough to explain my child's injury and treatment. Two full days there, and never once got to speak with a doctor. Truly a terrible experience....... we will never come back here again.
The ICU/Cath Lab/Surgeons have been so good to my dad during/after his CABG procedure. They have been super patient with my family and I with answering questions. I appreciate all that they have done/are doing for him
The hospital won’t allow not even one person to accompany the patient. I was also told that I couldn’t enter the hospital to use the restroom. I was told to use the port a John that was outside. The security guard and the check in nurse weren’t even wearing masks. This is completely absurd.
This must be the worst hospital in the city! I just got discharged from the hospital after an 8-day stay following colon re-sectioning surgery. It was a truly hellish experience, one that will haunt my dreams for years to come. This …
A week ago I was involved with a circular saw ended up losing a couple fingers the trauma team there was amazing if I had that crew I could conquer the world. Chris Addie Ben Austin Laura Grace Carly Dr Palmer Carol Ebony JoAnn And all the ones I forgot the names of but not the care. Amazing crew! Thank you for doing what you do so well
This place should be condemned. My loved one was treated inhumanely and cruel after being struck by a truck a day before without attention paid during her suffering after admission into their joke of an ER. This place should be condemned and their staff embarrassed to work at this hell hole.
There's always a long wait and the staff are rude
This hospital needs a better system for the family members that visit patients. I came in to see my family member and was waiting in their room. One of the members from the reception desk brought another member up and told me I had to leave. They also made a distasteful comment about some balloons I brought for them. This was not how my visit with my family should have been and could have been avoided if that front desk person followed the rules and minded their business. Ridiculous.
Worst emergency care experience!! A nurse practitioner came to see me after 3 hours wait and then they didn’t have staff available for imaging on a Saturday!! Don’t waste your time or your money.
Worst hospital in the city! my mom was there for 6 hours in the ER and they did nothing but a CT. Even tho she has heart problems they did not do a EKG or check her heart! They then sent her to West Penn thank god because they actually did a EKG, got her blood pressure down also they did more tests and decided she needs surgery. I will never let my family go back or myself!
The worst experience ever! I almost lost my life because of their negligence... I was bleeding after the first surgery and it took them more than 7 hours to finally doing the second surgery to fix the bleeding. My hemoglobins went from 12 to 6 and they gave me two blood units and it was still 6!!!!! Most people won’t survive what had happened to me. I filed a complaint and they told me they did a good job and they have high standards and they were following the procedures... They even released from the hospital before checking if my hemoglobins went up or not! Also had Bactria infection from the hospital twice... What a shame. There are some really good nurses there but my whole experience was horrific and sad.
Terrible, i walked through their doors with uneasy chest pain around the heart area they gave me an ekg and said it was normal, my PCP told me himself that doesnt really tell them much but hey not a doctor. I've been sitting in the waiting room for 6.5 hours since, I've developed some lower back pain too, not sure if its from sitting so long or my kidneys acting up, im a type 2 diabetic. I've watched 4 or so people that arrived after me get treated before me. I'm currently sitting in the waiting room, i arrived at 4pm it is now 10:40 and honestly i would have walked out already if i thought it was nothing. Smh i will never come back to this place. ????????
If it wasn’t for the surgeon I see here at AGH, I would absolutely NEVER come here. Most of the staff here are so rude. I’ve had multiple back surgeries and today I’m having severe back pain. A doctor told me to go straight to the ED. Here I am almost 2 hours later waiting in the waiting room and can barely move. This hospital is the absolute worst. If I could walk out of here I would!!!!!
I had neurosurgery at Allegheny. It was a very scary experience. Everyone was nice and professional. My surgeon was very experienced and excellent. I was very comfortable with him. The nurses were all good to me and helpful. The surgery was a success. The team at that hospital saved my life. I only had one bad experience with a blond chubby woman, that my nurse called to change my IV needle, in the middle of the night. She was gruff, ruff, and very nasty and informed me that she did not think I needed it. Also, the transportation is terrible.
Security was very helpful in finding my way to my friends room. I got there later in the day and the information kiosk was closed.
Took my husband to er to be seen. He told them he had pain, trouble with breathing and was to the point of being scared to go to sleep because he did NOT think he would wake up. Waited 3hrs... was never taken to room. I wasn't allowed in waiting room had to wait outside or in car (which I did). Went up to lady at door at 3hr mark to see how much longer she said his room is being cleaned. Ok good.. NOT... waited another hr and still nothing. He decided he wants to go tells nurse n she says yea we wouldn't be able to help you anyways!! Really?!?! I will never go back there again... they said they were so busy why wait was long but nurses out smoking, on phones and getting snacks! I watched alot having to wait 4hrs!
My brother had heart surgery (lvad put in) great doctors and nurses! His nurses Melissa and Kevin was very nice and care about their patients. Rooms were nice and the had their Christmas dinner for employees and visitors toady the food was very good! The lady at information desk going out to the parking garage was very nice! Very nice hospital!
Do not expect anyone at this hospital to act with any urgency if you or a loved one is faced with a life threatening illness. I waited months just to begin simple testing to determine if I was a match to be a liver donor for my father. Time ran out before that testing ever took place. Advice to the nurses at this hospital (you know who you are if this is directed at you) ... be certain the phone is hung up before you laugh and joke about the death of somebody's loved one. The death of my father 20 minutes earlier was painful enough without listening as you made jokes. Learn a little compassion if you're going to remain in this line of work.
If you have a choice in hospitals, DO NOT CHOOSE THIS HOSPITAL. The nurses are too busy playing on their phones and talking to provide proper patient care. They don't regularly check on your loved one (I've seen 1 nurse in 4 hours). AHN has a long way to go to provide even a sliver of appropriate care.
We started in the pediatric orthopedic section for about 3 days with my 8yo daughter. She was taken care of by awesome nurses and doctors who were all very caring and answered any questions we had for them. The pediatric area has a room full of movies, Playstation games, toys, books and games for kids to check out and use as long as they want so my daughter was never bored. The housekeeping and food service staff were also incredibly kind and friendly. We were treated with care and respect by everyone we came in to contact with!
Still sitting in waiting room an hour after scheduled appointment. EVERY time I've been here, it's the same song and dance. Lacking in every way possible. It would be a nice place to start a hospital! !
Allegheny General Hospital is a complete joke! My husband was brought here in an ambulance after a motor vehicle accident. His book bag was given to Security. When we were given the book bag back, items were missing! This is how you care for your ill & injured?! By stealing from them?! Not only that, but he was discharged without any crutches or anything to help him!
If I could leave less than one star I absolutely would. I am convinced this is the worst hospital in all of Pittsburgh and will go out of my way to NEVER go to this hospital again for anything. Over the summer I was severely dehydrated because I couldn’t stop vomiting. The er put in an iv and I kept telling them that it hurt and they said “it’s a needle in your arm it’s supposed to hurt”. They kept me overnight to give me fluids and the next morning discharged me. They didn’t offer any solutions for the vomiting. So they gave me a temporary fix and sent me on my way. Two days later I ended up back in the er at a different hospital. This time with a blood clot in my arm from the needle stick AGH told me was supposed to hurt...turns out the nurse didn’t put the needle in far enough and that gave me a superficial blood clot. That arm couldn’t be used for the rest of the 2 weeks I had to stay in the new hospital while the new doctors helped me get my vomiting under control. Then in January an ambulance was called because I was having severe chest pain and pain in my right side. The ambulance took me to agh where they did a ct scan. I told them about the pain in my chest and a sharp pain in my right side. And before I left I told them the pain had moved to my shoulder. The nurse mocked me and sounded skeptical that my pain was “moving”. They told me I had gas and as I had been vomiting my esophagus was irritated causing me pain. They told me to take an acid reflux pill. They didn’t even keep me over night. The pain continued so I decided to consult my regular doctor. He took a look at the ct scan AGH took and saw that I had gallstones. He scheduled a second test just to be sure, but he could see them pretty clearly from the ct scan. I got on the books for surgery but it had to be canceled due to the pandemic. I finally was able to get my gallbladder removed in May. NOT at agh. By the time my gallbladder was removed I had over 100 stones in my gallbladder. If agh had caught this back in January when I first was taken to the er I wouldn’t have had to suffer for so long. Don’t go to this hospital. The staff is miserable, the doctors don’t care. They just want you in and out as fast as possible. They won’t actually treat you or look for solutions. Terrible hospital.
This has to be the worst hospital ever... after a 18hour wait in the ER after being told we are putting in a room 2 hours in to our visit we get a room. Well we get to our room and here we sit no pillow for my mothers head no blankets to cover her and a line of staff out at the nursing station chatted about the upcoming holiday. And yes I am sitting her listening to them chat and I have ask now 3 time for items to make my mother comfortable in this god forsaken hole they call a hospital this has to be the worst hospital ever. The ER nurse are so rough my mom has a broken arm and we are waiting to do surgery and they rip at her I got tired of my mom telling them to hold on that they are hurting her that I started yelling at everyone I cant think of one thing that was good about this hell hole.
Transported here by ambulance from grove city with a crush injury of hand. Was on iv with morphine at grove city. Was placed in allegheny wait room in hospital gown with no meds. Asked for pain relief and got denied like I was a junky. After 2 hours I could not take it so unbandaged my hand and walked to reception and said I needed rewrapped. The tactic worked. The sight of exposed bone and flesh got thier attention. From waiting I was placed in a hallway with iv and morphine. Was never re wrapped. After 3 1/2 hours in the hallway I finally saw a resident who cleaned the wound and did some rough stitching if skin flaps to cover exposed bone. Was told I was scheduled in the morning for meeting with hand specialist. Tell me to go and send me with 3 hydrocodone. The wife and I get to hotel around 3 am. At 8:30 we get ready for the hospital and call the number we were given. The hand guy is not in, but is in monroeville and won't see me unty 3 pm and refused pain meds to be called in. Said screw them and went to UPMC! Treated much better and a much cleaner facility.. should have went to UPMC to begin with and I wouldn't have had 36 hours of suffering. Wish I could share photos of the injury to drive the point home.
Physicians were extremely helpful and I felt well informed in my fathers care. The waiting rooms were closed and it was very inconvenient to have numerous people waiting in a hallway to visit their loved ones.
We went to this ER for my son who had neck pain and as we sat there as time went on the waiting room got filled and after 2 hours we left without being notified of the issue or the expected wait time... horrible experience will never go back. If I would give no stars I would!
Went in for blood labs and the patient access team was useless. They sent me to lab down the hallway behind registration and I was just wondering. I found the lab and little did I know you have to find and sign this name list or you'll keep getting passed by. What is registration for then? They really aren't patient friendly. I could have gone anywhere else and since less than the hour it took me. If I could give zero stars I would.
Is it possible we're doing sumthing too ourselves as communities world wide causing this coronavirus and we don't know it.what exactly what communities arent.,just bare with me!!! Something at we're all coming in contact with. Outside of this virus hypathetically.. enabling it too be stronger than it should be right now this moment!!! Give it some thought!! over time and or stop it from getting stronger than it is right now!! ,if possible.at this moment!!..and or, both. I mean changing another form or much more.and evolving persay!!! And at worst possible Scenario. The amount of knowledge out there. Is infinity.... unlimited!!.as I hope not of all this!and hope it does get better!! Hindsight is 20/20. Is there any natural compound
Gave them one star because you have to give them a star. Can't write the whole review due to too many characters. To cut it short poor communication. Pain medication not given. Poor medical Care after surgery. In 12 hours only 3 doses of pain medication was given of the 8 that was needed. People were yelling for help in the middle of the night no nurses were around maintaining the patients. No monitors after surgery to monitor vitals.
I gave one star because this hospital is no where like it used to be. Its a joke. Ive had problem with my back for years... im with a whole new network now... but when i injured my back to the point that i could walk. I couldnt feel my legs. I decided to go to Alleghany general hospital emergency room department. With hopes that they would figure out what was wrong... since no one else can. Ive been put through some much agony over the years... the e.r. at alleghany left me alone for 6 hours in a wheelchair. Left me to sit in pee for 3 of those hours because i couldnt move my legs to get up and walk. After getting to room i was then told i had to get an mri... no one check or rated my pain level. I went through the mri in agony.. then i was treated like a junkie by both doctor and his Do. After the fact... they were to busy for me i guess. You know the one with welfare insurance. I will never go back because of the inadequate care i recieved... and being profiled. i hope no one has to be humilated like that ever... shame on you
y mother had surgery here recently and I was very concerned with how she was treated. 4 different anesthesia team members came in to talk to her and ask the same questions before just leaving- didn’t really do anything, didn’t seem like they communicated with other team members. The last one was a nurse anesthetist who asked why her IV cath wasn’t started- she doesn’t know, she’s just been waiting to go back to surgery. Then when trying to set the catheter she did a very quick wipe with alcohol (not really practicing aseptic technique ) before trying to place it. The first attempt didn’t work and my mother started to bleed quite a bit . Previously they gave her a shot of heparin in preparation for surgery. Something this anesthetist would haven know if she reviewed her chart instead of raising her voice to my mother asking why she didn’t mention she was on blood thinners (which she is not). She made another attempt at placing an iv cath and again it wasn’t fully place but she said “it will do for now and someone else can fix it” .....part of the hub was in her hand, with the stylet hanging out attached still and saline running off her hand from attempting to flush it...this is how she went back for surgery- they told her to just hold her hand up and not let it fall....that’s just not good practice , patient care or sterility. apparently they tried one lore time in her other hand and blew that vein too before having someone successfully place it in her right wrist area. Cut to later in recovery phase 2 , she was in a good bit of pain and didn’t receive any pain meds until right before discharge - which was almost 1.5 hrs later. And when staff was questioned about her hand and any concerns for infection due to multiple sticks - they simply said “well that happens often cause it’s a deep stick” . I work in this field - veins on the hand are superficial , not deep like a vein in your arm/elbow. They expressed no concern or cared to apologize at all.
All of the personnel working here are friendly and helpful.
This review is for the Supervisor that was working on the sixth floor (oncology) on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021. My mom was sick for years. She had a lot of health problems including two kidney transplants, years of dialysis, and ultimately a fatal heart attack - that she came back from! She was a fighter! Unfortunately the health issues were too much for her and she entered hospice care. She took her last breath on October 3rd. The reason for my post is to ask the hospital staff to communicate. Security, the nursing staff, and the sixth floor supervisor all had different restrictions regarding hospice visitation. Our family of five was not allowed to be in the room together as my mom fell asleep. We were asked to visit in shifts, a few of waiting in the waiting room - until the Supervisor tracked us down and told us we couldn’t wait there either. She chased us out… My message to that one, particular Supervisor: If you ever have a loved one in a similar situation, I hope that you, like me, are asked to wait in the hall. I’d like you to know how that feels.
Extremely Long wait times even for the Emergency Room. Seems to always be super packed. Quality suffers when they are trying to just push people in and out super fast. Make sure you insist on proper treatment instead of Nurses or Doctors saying " It looks like it could be this so here you go.. " ( happened twice with a wrong diagnosis ) Would have rated higher if there was more care on the visits.
Billing department is horrible! Still getting bills 7 months after being there and have paid them all but they come every month and a half to 2 months and are for same thing! Why am I getting double charged for same thing I already paid! Scammers they are
Yesterday whenever my jaw broke I went straight to Allegheny General Hospital. After arriving and giving my basic information I was made to sit in a lobby for 4 hours while I was spitting blood. They offered me a plastic bag and gave me 2 piece of paper to stop the bleeding. It eventually got to the point where one of the security guards working started screaming at the woman behind the desk and other employees who where sitting around doing nothing that I need medical attention. The woman argued with the man saying they are doing everything they can... he yelled the man has been bleeding for 4 hours and you gave him computer paper to stop in not even gauze?!?!?. I eventually left after 4 1/2 hours. I went to Upmc Passavant - McCandless where I was seen within 3 minutes of walking in the door. They level of professionalism and caring is day and night. I'm honestly only posting this so I can warn others about my nightmare order with Allegheny General Hospital. I truly believe that their workers would let someone die under their supervision and not even bat an eye. I wouldn't even donate to this place let alone ever go back there for treatment. If you or a loved one need medical attention.
Take great care of me but also feel like I'm in jail. Wasn't expecting to get stuck here but I'm told I'm not allowed to go to my car
