The clinic was nice. The front desk people are nice and welcoming. The person who help give the sx quote is very informative and helps answering questions. The only thing that make me kind of Eh.. was the consultation with the Dr. I went an hour early for my consultation. Was brought into the rm, seconds later the Dr. came in. He asked my reason for the visit. I told him I wanted a consultation for a tummy tuck and BBL. Now here comes the part; #1) Any questions I ask, he did not let me finish asking and talk over me to answer it. (In my mind, I’m thinking.. ummm okay?...) I understand some patients comes in with the same questions but at least hear them out before answering. #2) I told him about my previous decision of going to the DR to get sx, he then interrupted and said over there is dangerous and that he does 100’s sx a year and asked me if I seen all the gallery in the website. (Of course I’ve seen it, that’s why I made an consultation. I’ve been researching for 6 yrs about this type of procedure) #3) I barely had the time to ask any questions because by the time I going to ask he already walked toward the door rushing to leave the room. (Never bother to ask if I have any questions) #4) Lastly, took 30-40 minutes to get my quote, But less than 5 min with a consultation with the Dr. The quote guy was way better and cooler. He’s more informative, asked me if I have any questions, and explain things to me that I don’t know of. Everyone’s experiences is different so hopefully you guys have a better experience than I did. I’ll probably stick to my sx surgeon in the DR.

Terrible experience! I called and gave the girl my insurance info to set up a consultation for a breast reduction. When I got there they didn't know I was going to use insurance. No big deal. But then I go into the room and talk to Dr. Thao, he was super nice when he thought he was getting money from me. When I told him I was using insurance (which at this point you would think he would know) he starts to tell me that my insurance company will determine how big I will end up being and I don't want to do that because they will take me down to a B cup. I told him I already talked to my insurance company and they told me that me and my doctor determine that together. As I tried to tell him this over and over, he just kept shouting at me that that's not the case and they use a formula with my height and weight and whoever I talked to at my insurance company didn't know what they were talking about, and blah blah blah. After this he didn't give me much of a chance to even try to speak before he told me I should just pay it out of pocket because then I can choose the size myself. An estimate of over $9,000 made me do more research than I had already done and it turns out I was right and despite him not allowing me to talk, he was wrong! My insurance does NOT determine how big I end up. When I called and tried to tell them that, Dr. Thao's receptionist continued to argue with me. Clearly the only thing these people are concerned about is getting money. Dr. Thao has lost my trust and I will be going elsewhere.

I went in for a scar revision and the doctor promised me he would make me look beautiful but then my scar came out the same as before. When I brought it up, the doctor didn’t say much but advice me to try steroid injection. The assistant said the doctor didn’t know I would recover like that even though he saw my previous scar. The doctor barely talk to me. The assistant does most of the talking and explaining which I thought it was odd. During my procedure I have to pay extra because they said I stayed over time even though I was on time and the doctors were the one running late.

I'm a pretty easy patient but have high expectations and did all my homework beforehand, especially for this surgical procedure. I'm very thankful that Dr. Thao's excellent reputation shows in the work he did for me. His staff was very nice, caring, and professional. Even the office is exceptional, so I have a very hard time finding suggestions for improvements given my experience was so positive. My biggest surprise, believe it or not, was how reasonable the cost was for such a highly regarded surgeon. I'm sure my review will read as too good to be true so I want to recommend to those that are skeptical to do your research, ask a lot of questions, and make sure you understand everything about the process. They were very upfront about everything and it all made sense to me because I asked a lot of questions and read everything they provided to me including the inherent risks. I don't think plastic surgery is for everyone but I do think it's for a lot more people than you think.

I went there in the Summer of 2017 for a consultation for a breast reduction. It was a pleasant experience at first. Dr. Thao himself was incredibly patient and understanding of what I wanted. However, once I met with Phil to go over billing it was SO uncomfortable. He did a great job of explaining the billing process however when I asked about my insurance covering this he told me that Dr. Thao told him that it would be a purely cosmetic procedure and my insurance wouldn’t cover that. I thought that was weird because shouldn’t my insurance be the judge of that? Anyway, Phil continued to go onto the website and showed me pictures of women with extremely large breasts and why they were candidates for insurance to cover. While I understand there’s more extreme cases than mine I think it’s important to be relative. Those women he showed me weren’t just overweight but also obese. I would think they would have large breasts than mine. I’m not obese but my breasts are simply too large for my body. Anyway, I continuously told Phil I understand while he was showing me the images just so I could get out of there. He then proceeded to subtly check me out in comparing the photos which I would understand if he was even participating in the surgery but he’s NOT. He’s just the billing guy. He then proceeded to LAUGH at some of the women with extremely larger breasts which I found rude and uncomfortable. He kept saying to me “yours aren’t as big as theirs are they???” And then proceeded to eye my breasts. Then said “I mean come on look at THOSE hahaha”. It was so so so disgusting. He even asked me my breast size! Which again I thought would be normal if he assists in operation. HE DOESN’T. I called my insurance company and told them what had happened. They were appalled that the Woodbury Plastic Surgeon office didnt send them any paper. Thus they referred me to other plastic surgeons so I can get this procedure done and figure out whether I’m a good insurance candidate. All in all Dr. Thao seemed great. I’ve read reviews that he does great work. But Phil made me so uncomfortable that I will never go there even if my insurance did cover it. I hope they see this and continue proper training in handling these types of customer/patient care issues. Maybe a better understanding of insurance protocol as well and communicating with me about the insurance aspect of this procedure. I hope this helps anyone in their future procedures with Woodbury Plastic Surgery.

I have had great plastic surgeons and when living n Chicago saw the same Dr Oprah uses but I can tell you hands down Dr Thao is the best of the best quite literally! He is the kindest most caring plastic surgeon first of all. He listens and answers all my question in a kind and patient way. He makes sure I understand everything that will happen and truly cares about his patients needs and concerns and comfort. Then there is the fact he an artist, scientist and clearly genius. The detailed care he took to make sure I ended up with the results I wanted was something I've never seen. He is truly the most talented, knowledgeable plastic surgeon I've ever seen or researched. Dr Thao replaced my implants which was a big job as they had been in for 14 years and it wasn't a pretty situation trust me on this but my breasts have literally never looked better.... Ever not even in my 20's!! He knows where to cut to have the least at amount of scarring, and knows exactly where and how to place the right implants for your body. Dr Thao also preformed eyelid surgery for me for my very hooded eyes and there is not a scar to see and I have been told look 10 years younger. I would never believed at 51 I could achieve what Dr Thao did for me. I also had filler and botox done by Dr Thao himself! That is rare as most Dr's have their assistants do these procedures but not Dr Thao he wants everything perfect for you and cuts no corners. You would think for this level of talent and service his prices would be CA level but no he's very reason reasonable and doesn't nickle and dime you with upgrade options like some I've been to. I have moved out of state but that just means I get to visit often as I will never see anyone from now on but Dr Thao!! He is that good and that worth it. In fact my sister from Seattle is going to fly in to see him. He is that amazing!! Under an Alias account because I do not feel comfortable reviewing with my personal account. Disappointed because beginning from the consultation Dr. Thao was dismissive and interrupted me several times when I tried to speak and tell him what I wanted. Instead HE told me what I would be getting done and even said it won't be as pretty as others. Consult was 5 minutes vs. 30 at other offices I've visited, not thorough, and didn't want to answer any questions I had UNTIL last minute on procedure day! I can only hope he starts treating his potential patients like human beings who would also like their voice to be heard instead of his next fix of money. Honestly reviewing so they can improve their customer service. Did not feel respected or heard. Would give 0 if I could. It is heartbreaking to see them try and justify the low reviews saying people are not their patients. You will obviously not find me in your "log" of patients because of my alias name, but I was a patient and my experience was real. This was a last resort, I thought everything would be okay and I really wanted this procedure so I did it here because other places were booked. Thought I could trust these people. The fact they are unable to take constructive criticism really shows what kind of people they are. Just asking to hear your patients out rather than rush the process.

I was in pain for months and have these weird triangles at the ends of my scars. My abdomen looks weird and puffy. I didn’t go to my follow ups because I was in pain and also didn’t see the point because what could there be done about it? I also didn’t want to hurt his feelings. I met with Dr. Thao with my husband who was seeking a second opinion for an abdominal wall repair needed to correct a rupture with nerve damage. This rupture has caused years of pain and suffering and has been confirmed by CT. Prior to the appointment my husband filled out a lot of paperwork with the history of his condition and brought imaging (CT). After a brief consult in a very high end consult room, prior to which Dr. Thao clearly hadn't looked at any notes, he brought us to an exam room. He flat out said he never looks at scans or images. He poked around briefly and basically laughed us out of the room, saying that what we'd been told was nonsense. He said there is no way to see nerves during surgery and that "abdominal surgery isn't rocket science" and the abs are "one big red blob of muscle." He said this surgery has never been done and can't be done. We have since been to Midwest Plastic Surgery & to Mayo and his words couldn't be more false. We relieved excellent care from Dr. Ruebeck, who initially took the time to look into this chronic debilitating problem. I wouldn't trust Dr. Thao to shoot Botox into a pig, let alone operate on me. He clearly sees his niche as serving vanity and nothing to do with healing medicine. Shame on him.

If, I can give this place no star I would. Rude person on the phone, smacking her food and breathing heavily, quick to bad mouth other drs. Not professional at all. The worst part is instead of getting me to come in for a consultation she made me not want to go in at all.

I went in for a consultation and the doctor was very obviously in a big hurry. He did not listen to me and he literally spent less than 5 minutes with me. He did not answer my questions and did not effectively communicate. No thank you. I will find a different clinic to spend my money at. Not impressed AT ALL. Don't waste your time with him.
