I actually have a strong phobia with the dentist, so when I was referred here as a 30-something year old adult, to have my 4 wisdom teeth pulled, I was anything but calm about the whole ordeal. I'm also a deaf woman who relies on lip-reading, and I wear glasses which would have to be removed for dental work, effectively making me unable to read lips and rendering me both deaf and nearly blind, which only serves to ramp up my already high anxiety. The staff at the Great Lakes Oral Surgery Centre were FANTASTIC with me. It's been less then 24 hours after my surgery, and I'm feeling minimal pain (though my tongue's still a little numb). My memory is foggy, but that's to be expected since I needed to be put asleep for the surgery, but I have clear recollections of a very attentive and kind nurse, whom I later found out was named cheryl (I hope!) who really helped put me at ease. Even when she knew I probably wasn't coherent enough under the laughing gas, or the recovery of the anesthetic, she still continued to address me, smile, squeeze my hand encouragingly, and I even remember her saying I was doing great. Her kindness made all the difference and helped me through what could have been a very stressful time until I was blissfully asleep. My experience at the Great Lakes Oral Surgery Centre was nothing short of remarkable compared to the dread and anxiety I felt leading up to the day, and it is their kindness and their willingness to connect with their patients that makes them stand out. I strongly recommend this company for anyone, but especially for those who may have a dental phobia and need that extra 'touch' of comfort to get you through it. Great Lakes Oral Surgery Centre is lucky to have an employee with as big a heart and as kind a touch as the nurse (cheryl), and I was lucky to have her assigned to my operating room that day, but that's not to say the rest of the staff weren't just as polite and friendly. I will definitely recommend them in the future, as my experience has clearly earned them high praise. Thank you.
