My doctor referred me to the ISAEC clinic while waiting for previous records from a back injury as well as a genetic defect. The physiotherapist seemed to have made up her mind from the time I walked into the building and could best be described as having just enough professionalism to get by. She seemed more interested in her coffee than my health, and after a limited exam, she completely contradicted my previous diagnosis and recommendation from several previous doctors, including an orthopedic surgeon. When I did speak up to ask about the contradictions without any scans or medical history, she proceeded to reference the mental health worksheet- repeating the mantra that pain does not equate with damage. She then explained that there are several studies that show constant back pain causes a lower pain tolerance and the fear of getting better. After 3 years of physio, surgery, car accidents, a child with cancer, one drug-free natural childbirth, many kidney stones, and learning to walk again- I am well aware that I do not have a fear of much of anything and although I knew her assessment of a few things to be completely inaccurate- I have done the hour of exercises each day for a week . Now, instead of the occasional pain with daily pressure at the base of my spine, I have almost constant pain and occasional burning at the base of my spine. I am working three jobs like this because I do not get any kind of money or assistance and I have children to take care of. I don't ask for pain medications and have taken measures to help myself improve, even prior to my appointment. I can literally say that I was better off without any care at all and unfortunately, after this visit, that is exactly what I'm going to get. I can't speak for any of the other therapists at this location and I am not here to shame this woman for subpar care, but I certainly do not want anyone else to have to go through this.
